Danny Federici, for 40 years the E Street Band's organist and keyboard player, died this afternoon, April 17, 2008 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City after a three year battle with melanoma.

This is strange, but I was just talking to a close friend of the band's, and it sounds like Danny's passing might be a blessing.

As a music lover and melanoma survivor, my thoughts and prayers are with Danny's friends and family.
