View Full Version : The myspace/youtube teen beating

It's big news around here, and I've caught it on the national "news" shows as well (Nancy Grace is not news). 8 teengers-6 girls doing the beating and 2 boys posted as lookouts-lured a girl to a home, beat the living crap out of her, threw her in a car and wouldn't let her out. The girl has what could end up being permanent vision and hearing damage, as well as a concussion and numerous other injuries.
Supposedly, the plan was tape it and then post it to their myspace pages and on youtube. Because they apparently saw nothing wrong with what they were doing and were actually proud of it. One of them even asked the arresting officers if this meant she would miss cheer leading practice. The whole thing is utterly appalling.
This week, they were all charged as adults. Also this week, the county sheriff appeared on several "news" shows and a judge slapped him with a gag order for it.
THEN I saw this article:
Dr. Phil staff bails out one of the girls charged (http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=309293>1=7703)
REALLY?! I'm a big Dr. Phil fan-at times, others I wanna smack him-but this is just ridiculous. Bailing her out of jail? Absurd. I cannot, for the life of me, imagine just what his staff thought they were doing.

Those have to be the stupidest girls to walk this earth in some time. While I feel absolutely terrible for the poor girl they attacked, I'm a bit glad for the human race as a whole that those morons will be incarcerated throughout their reproductive years.
Seriously - they decided to film themselves committing a felony assault, just to show the video of said felony to the whole world. That's like, Darwin Award level of stupidity.

Trying to make themselves a juicy little story, complete with one of the attackers there to defend her name!

I heard today that Dr. Phil is NOT going to bail the girl out. Figured out it was a bad idea.
It all makes me long for the day when people just filmed themselves having sex or getting hit in the crotch with a baseball.

Oh no, she's out. She got out Saturday night. I think they decided to drop the show about it after people started making a fuss.
The news just showed a blurb about a Dr. Phil staffer getting into a shouting match with a local reporter. Klassy! And I like Dr. Phil. *sigh*
Niobe, I like your Darwin Award idea. They definitely qualify.

I don't want my daughter to grow up. :( Gah! Everytime stuff like this happens, I want to keep her home and sheltered. Forever.
I saw the video on one of the morning news shows around here and it was just horrific. I'm very glad that all of the attackers are being charged as adults.
I unfortunately started watching the video of this on the news the other day before I even knew what it was. I still get sick to my stomach every.single.time I think about it.
It scares me to death. Not just because I don't understand how people could be so brutal - but also b/c I haven't the faintest clue how they could think that it was "ok" to also post their brutality on MySpace! I mean - I just have no words. It blows my mind.
I hope and pray these girls will be punished accordingly.
PS: Dr. Phil turns my stomach alomost as much as these girls do.
This whole thing makes me sick.
I was watching the news last week and they were interviewing the mom of one of the attackers and she said "they were just being kids. Kids fight." Are you freaking kidding me? Yeah, maybe kids can fight (I never did) but kids don't beat the shit out of a classmate just to post it on Myspace....

What is up with all of the permissiveness of society these days? I mean, these kids could NOT have had any sense of accountability and do such a horrid thing, much less do this horrid thing and have the audacity to want to post in on MySpace!
The mind boggles.

Using her logic, I guess she can't complain when her daughter gets her butt kicked in jail...jailbirds fight ya know :)
Anyway, it made me sick too. What were they thinking? To tape it? Put it on the INTERNET...um duh, it will be around forever. You can't deny what you did now. You can't FIGHT it and win! What are you going to say in court to it? I don't know. And Dr Phil, to get a story deal out of it? WTH? Her butt should be right back in jail.

I haven't read much more on the story but I saw this on CNN.com today...
http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/04/19/girl.beating.ap/index.html
A group of southern Indiana middle school girls videotaped the beating of a 12-year-old schoolmate and posted it on the Internet in an attack that authorities believe was inspired by a similar one in Florida, police said.
I remember a point in my life in HS when I was so enraged with an ex-friend who was doing everything in her might to ruin my reputation and make my life a living hell. I seriously at that point in my life wished her dead. Seriously. I never did anything to her though other than stay out of her way because if anybody would have kicked anybody's ass it would have been mine laid out. (In our mid 20s we made contact again and she apologized for being a bitch to me). I just played it off that it wasn't a big deal. If only she knew How Much I Hated Her.
I also remember a fellow student who died in a hunting accident, shot in the head. Another student who despised the deceased student wore a teeshirt to school a few days later with a happy face and bullet hole in the forehead.
Being a teenager really sucks at times. I don't think many teens have the mindset to think past "what's happening next weekend". I wish I could do it again with the knowledge I now have. As far as these girls, they obviously need to be punished. I don't know the whole story but I think I read that they were retaliating against things the beaten girl said/did to them. By no means do I think that this beating was warranted in any way. But I could have easily been in the same situation with my ex-friend. It could happen to anyone.
