Thanks for the new thread!

Can you please change my age to 36? My bday isn't until Fri, but close enough!

Oh hell, lady, do I hear you on this. That's another thing: I'd kind of like to have another newborn while the knowledge of what it's like to have a newborn is still fresh in my mind. I just will feel more prepared and "used to it," I think.

But, then again, I really have no idea what it's like to parent a toddler. I should probably get a bead on that before I do anything rash ;)

ITA that having just gone through the baby stuff is another plus. I did manage to forget a few things about the infant stage but as soon as I got back into it with DD, it all came back to me.

I say go for it - how can you resist the thought of having another cute baby? ;) She is so adorable - I can't believe her hair!

Cat~ Thanks so much for starting the new thread. I'll try to be better about TM duties and updating I promise!

Now, please resume the discussion about more babies immediately. DH and I are totally split about having another or not, I'm for it, he's against it. I just worry that I won't have the time to devote to 3 while they are older and in school and have different activities etc. DH is grat but works 24-7 so I can only be in so many places at once.

I do admit though, this 6 month age is so precious. I swear from 6-12 months they are so cute and cuddly and lovey, I would order 3-4 more right now.

OMG! You mean my little one is going to get even CUTER? She's so sweet right now (at 4.5 months) that I can barely stand it! :D

I think 6 months is awesome! The sitting but not mobile and into everything yet stage rocks! But in my 33 months of parenting experience, 15 to 21 months is the hardest stage, so I would not want a newborn during that period. We are also split on whether we want another, but I think we will end up going for it at some point.

Cool - DS is 20 months now, so guess I can coast from here on out? ;) He was 15 months when DD was born and it wasn't easy, but I have no basis for comparison!

I love 6-8 months too - with DS I was so anxious for him to start crawling, which he did when I was 6 weeks pg, and then I was like what the F was I thinking?? We'll see how DD does in that dept since she's definitely not as active as DS was. It might be nice for her to crawl so she has a chance to get away when he goes to smack her in the head!

Once DS #1 turned 7 months, we started trying again. It was very hard once DS #2 was born, but now I wouldn't have it any other way. Ben loves his little brother and is so cute with him. So I'd say go for it.

wendy If you feel it, go for it. Everyone's situation is different and different things work. Personally, I loved DS's early toddler stage. He was a handful, but I loved it when he was walking and we would take our dog for a walk.It was so fun to be partners in crime. My kids are a bit further apart than yours would be and I thought it was hard. THen again, I think it's pretty hard to add a second no matter when you do it. (Just don't move to the 3rd floor of a walk-up, with a dog...and a husband that leaves you with a 4.5 week old for 2 weeks. That's when I was like "what the F was I thinking?")

emmjay Happy early birthday!!!

TM's - thanks for the news thread!! It's great!

And I have to agree - I loved DS at 6 months and beyond. He was such a cute sweetie. As much as DD is torturing me with the lack of sleep, she's already heading down that same cuteness path! I love it!

Jenn (and Bill)
04-09-2008, 07:05 PM
I agree....we're all different ages and have different needs and priorities right now. But as someone who's about your age Wendy, and also just had her first...I totally get it. We all have to do what is right for us. I'm safe though cause we STILL haven't had sex! gotta do that to make a baby!

I'm not sure I can handle Natalie getting any cuter. we thought she was cute a couple of months ago and now we look at pictures and can't believe she's so much cuter now. And we still stare at her regularly with awe and amazement.

Jenn - at our 6 month checkup we got a prescription for vitamins with flouride.
Daisy - Love Ethan's haricut. My DS also had a ton of hair at that age, while sadly DD is still pretty bald.
Wendalah - Audrey is adorable! I just love babies with tons of hair!
More kids - DD is number 2, she and DS are 28 months apart. We are planning on at least one if not two more. We will not start to TTC until DD is at least 18 months, but we are both still pretty young so there is no pressure in that department.
emmjay - Early happy birthday!

DD's 6 month stats:
Weight: 15 lb 15 oz
Height: 25 1/4 in
head: 16 1/2 in

Also can you update my age to 28 and DH to 29?

daisysue62
04-09-2008, 09:48 PM
Wendalah~ If you feel up to having another one then go for it! The more the merrier :)

I have to agree with everyone else that the short phase between sitting and crawling is my favorite time...I'm loving every minute of it! My DD is super active and it's so refreshing to be able to plunk Ethan on the floor with a few toys, run to the bathroom, and come back to find him happily playing in the same spot I left him. My 2.5 year old DD on the other hand could cause a ton of chaos in that same time span (Emptying the entire tupperware cabinet onto the kitchen floor, dumping a whole box of cornflakes on the carpet, taking a poopy diaper off and "changing" herself or some other mischief)!

Tm - can you update our ages? I am 27 and DH is 28. Thanks!

More babies - We will probably TTC next summer. I don't want 2 in diapers if at all possible. And ITA about being selfish and wanting to enjoy this time with DS alone.

Solids - we have started DS on fruit, mainly applesauce and pears to help his constipation troubles. They didn't start until we went back to rice cereal from oatmeal, so we are back to all oatmeal now.

We had Amelia's 6 month WBV today. Poor thing got 4 shots and it took her such a long time to stop crying...I felt so bad for her. She's sleeping now, though, and I hope she doesn't have a bad reaction to any of the shots.

Here are her 6 month WBV stats:
Weight: 12lbs 15oz (3rd-5th percentile)
Length: 25" (25th percentile)
Head: 16 1/4" (25th percentile)

So, she maintained her weight curve, which is what the ped wanted, and jumped from the 10th to the 25th percentile for length. I'm VERY relieved that she maintained her weight! She said that Amelia is absolutely perfect and is doing everything a 6 month old should be doing. She was actually surprised and very impressed that she's sleeping through the night already with her low weight. So, besides the 4 nasty shots, it was a very good visit.

Hope you're all having a great day!

Anyone else have their DC in size 3 diapers but find them not long enough? I've noticed with DS that when he's sitting (assisted for now) he has major butt-crack-itis. He has also pee'd out of his diaper a few times too. The diaper fits but it just doesn't seem long enough.

Aunt Liv
04-11-2008, 11:41 AM
FSUSammy - I've noticed that different brands of diapers fit my girls very differently. You may have to try a different brand and see if those fit better on him. My friend absolutely loves Huggies on her son, but both my girls leaked right through Huggies. Conversely, her son can't wear Pampers, and Pampers are the only brand that fit my girls the right way. HTH!

We had Natalie's six month WBV yesterday too. Her stats are:

Weight: 16 pounds, 14 ounces
Height: 26 5/8ths

She got two shots and her finger pricked to determine if her flouride vitamins needed iron or not and they don't. She cried a little bit and we thought we'd have to give her a bottle but I stuck the soothie in her mouth and she was fine.

The doc gave us our "fruit" prescription which we would have done tonight but she's been passed out since her last bottle so we might have to wait another day. I am having daycare do one feeding of cereal a day since we need to do two now. I gather they didn't have any more luck than we do but it's a work in progress.

I probably have more to say but we have company coming at Noon tomorrow and our house is a disaster. I think we both assumed they'd come later in the day, for dinner, but they want to come for lunch so it doesn't mess up their daughters' nap schedules. So I gotta go clean!

Oh, Sammy, Natalie is in size 3 huggies and they seem to do ok so I don't have any great advice! Sorry!

Please update my age, I am 34 today. Also, I never made it to the first post of the thread

We are in sizes kirkland 1-2, and Pampers 2. Easton is Luvs size 3.

other children - like Emmjay said it's crazy in the beginning. Easton wanted all my attention and the girls of course needed my attention as well. It took about 4 months for Easton to really warm up to the girls enough that he now will give them kisses and hugs. He still wants me when I am holding them at times, but he knows as soon as I lay the one down I will hold him.

We went to the mall yesterday for a sing-along they were having at Pottery Barn kids. A bunch of other twin moms from our twins group went as well. Afterwards we were figuring out where to go to eat. We had to walk from the Court side to the Plaza side of our mall, so 4 of us did the walk. So many comments from people while we all pushed double strollers between the buildings. At least most people got it that we were twin moms. Here is a pic of the group right before we split for lunch:

6 month wbv
wt - 20lbs 11.5oz
lgth - 27.5 inches

we got the DTaP and Pneumococcal shots at this visit and DS has done really well with them so far. he's growing so great!! Wednesday he finally had his first non-newborny poo and it stunk. It was sad that the baby baby poos are gone now and he's growing up in every way. We started solids (pears) 2 weeks ago then did sweet potatoes last week and are on avacados this week. so far he's loving it all. MIL is somewhat concerned that we haven't done any cereal yet, but I just am not seeing the point for us right now. maybe in another week or two.

diapers we're having the same problem with pampers size 3 diapers being too short, but they're also a little snug elsewhere. that's the only brand we've tried as we use cloth about 99% of the time so it's pointless to buy another pack of disposables since we've only used about 5 in the last month.

I am just so amazed at how alive DS has become in the last 2 weeks. it's like we hit 6 months and a switch clicked on. so fun (and moody). he's turning into a little person so quickly

Happy birthday Ericka and emmjay!!!

Wow, lots of six month WBV this week!

We did two servings of cereal yesterday and then tried bananas. She seems to be doing a little better but we clearly have a long way to go. We are doing better with sleep lately. She fell asleep around 9 last night in her bouncy chair and woke up around 2. So I brought her to bed and sang her to sleep without feeding her. And then she slept till 6am. Now, I wouldn't mind if the 6 turned into 7 (or let's face it, noon on the weekends) but I think we're doing good. She also just self soothed herself into a nap in her chair. So progress is good, right?

I didn't realize I was screwing us up by feeding her if she did wake up in the middle of the night but the ped said that was the last resort and so far, so good!

She's doing MUCH better on the sitting, though today she fell over and bonked her head. I'm sure it was just my perception but it seemed SO LOUD! So I ran over and picked her up and between that and the soothie, she calmed down quickly!

She's also doing better on the rolling over. She did it about 10x times yesterday while we had company over so of course she got a huge round of applause each time! She did it again a couple of times this morning and I got it on videotape. So she seems to have mastered front to back. Back to front is a little harder but she's excellent and back to side. She seems to be sleeping like that too so I think that helps.

It's been a big week for her. I love all the new things but I want her to slow down too! I'm sure you all know how I feel!

Happy birthday Ericka!!!

Welcome boox2 - I'm not sure that we'll ever figure out this 2-kid thing either, but at least it's getting a little easier!

Aunt Liv Great news on Amelia's growth - good job - both of you! :) Cute pics of Amelia - what a great smile!

diaper size Nissa is still in size 2 Pampers. With DS I tried all sorts of different diapers, but Pampers had the fewest leaks. With DD I just tried Pampers 1st and they work, so we're sticking with them. I am also known for keeping my kids in smaller diaper sizes for waaay too long - guess I'm in denial about their growing up.

ETA - great pics Jenn! Yay for her big girl stroller

solids I gave DD pears over the weekend and the little piggy inhaled the whole #1 jar and still looked at me like that wasn't enough and nursed fully not even a 1/2 hour afterward. Let's hope she feels this way about peas and green beans which will be next! :p

Hope everyone had a great weekend! We're finally supposed to get some nice weather this week - I am SOOOO ready! We're gearing up for a crazy crazy weekend - DH and I are going to a dance performance Friday night, we're having family pics taken Saturday AM, then Seder/1st night of Passover Saturday night (means I'm cooking most of the day) and a brithday party Sunday morning...a little overbooked perhaps? At least we won't be bored!

Thanks for the Birthday wishes Aunt Liz, Jenn and VMB.

A friend of my hubby was asking him about diapers yesterday. I have tried Luvs, Pampers Swaddlers, Pampers Baby Dry, Huggies Supreme and White Cloud. She was wondering about Target ones. Told him I have heard good and bad about them but never tried them so can't say for sure. Luvs didn't work in newborn size for the girls, started using them with Easton in size 3 (he still fits in them) Huggies Supreme in newborn didn't work for DS (he leaked) but they worked well for the girls. Swaddlers used in all sizes and they worked well for all 3 kids, just really pricey so only get them with coupons and on sale (although we are using them right now since I got a pack for free from Pampers and a great discount coupon for them) and BabyDry I tried in size 1 because a friend bought me a box for the girls and they seem to work well. Sort of hoping to only have to buy 2 sizes soon if not just 1 size. Going to try and get Easton potty trained soon.

Happy Belated Birthday Ericka! I always love new pics of the girls.

Jenn - I love that pic of N in her big girl stroller. Too freaking cute with her sunglasses on. She looks like she loved it.

Me - We are doing ok. DS has started tilting again. Go figure too because we just got the ok to drop down our PT visits to once a week. Last time he started tilting it was because he was teething and tooth #1 and 2 came out. I was hoping to get by a little longer before his uppers came in but I have a feeling they will be here sooner then we all think.

Question about 6 month shots....I've heard that reaction to shots go up every time. DS never reacted to his 2 or 4 month shots. We go on Friday for his 6 month shots and of course like always I'm worried that this time will be THE time he reacts. If your DC has already had their 6 month shots how did they do afterwards??

emmjay

FSUSammy - we haven't done them yet for DD, but DS never reacted to any shots except for being a bit sleepy. He got the full number of shots at his 6m appt.

Jenn - Those sunglasses are adorable!

Sammy - I'm concerned about DD's 6mo shots too! I'm thinking about splitting them up since they're the last round for a while.

Q #1: Does anyone know if they do well baby visits between 6mo and 1yr?

Q#2: October mommies, have you bought any Pink Tourmaline? Pink Tourmaline or Opals are the Oct birthstones. I'm asking for mothers day jewelry in Pink Tourmaline and am wondering if anyone has a good place to buy it from?

honeygirl - our old ped did a 9mo WBV but there weren't any shots. It just entailed taking measurements and asking questions about development. I don't know if my new one will or not - I know in my other thread there were several people who did not have a 9mo WBV.

Q #1: Does anyone know if they do well baby visits between 6mo and 1yr? We have visits at 8 and 10 months, so I assume it varies by ped.

Jenn and Aunt Liv - Love the pics!
Erika - Happy belated birthday.
Sammy - We had to take DS for PT for torticollis as an infant and he also regressed for a while, but he did come out of it.
boox2 - Welcome!

Things are crazy busy here for a change  We are going to my parents for 10 days for Passover and I am busy trying to shop, clean, and make sure we all have enough clothing for the entire trip (we don't do laundry over the holiday). On top of that I have a few projects at work that need to get done by Wednesday and DH is in the process of interviewing for a new job.

DD FINALLY rolled from her side to her tummy on her own, so that is one less thing to worry about. She is also pretty un-interested in solids. We started with sweet potatoes, and she was much more interested in chewing the spoon than anything else, so we are going to skip this week and try again.

Q #1: Does anyone know if they do well baby visits between 6mo and 1yr? Our ped's office does a 9mo WBV, but I don't think there are shots. Honestly, I just don't remember. DS was so easy going with them, that I think I didn't worry about it as much. DD - well, that's a different story.

FSUSammy I hope DS gets ouyt of his regression soon!

VMB - I think we got shots at our 9 month with Easton. We are with a different practice now so not sure if they do them or not. I will still take them for the 9 month even if no shots, because would not really want to wait 6 months til their next appt.

Happy Belated Birthday emmjay and Ericka!

Cute pics everyone!!

Liv- I'm glad Amelia is doing well! Are you doing the 22 cal formula?

Sammy- If you're having the buttcrackitis problem, I'd probably try the next size. DD is 16 lbs and fits fine in size 3s. I've tried them all. I like Luvs and Pampers the best, but if I have coupons and they're on sale, I'll buy any of them. If DS was fine for his 2 and 4 month shots, he'll probably be fine for the 6 month ones. DD was fine for the 2 month, but the 4 month ones were awful for her so we're delaying them now so she only gets one or two shots at a time. DS was fine for all of them though.

boox2- Welcome!

Ericka- I bet you guys were a sight to see at the mall!

Jenn- I don't think you're screwing yourselves up. Some babies just need to eat at night. DD is so distractable that I have a hard time getting her to eat enough during the day. Sometimes they have growth spurts and need a little extra as well. But, if you can rock her to sleep instead, that's a bonus!

Honey- We're doing a 7 month nurse's visit for shots only since we're delaying some. We have a 9 month WBV that she'll get shots at as well and we're going to discuss the rest of her shots at that time so we might have more nurse's visits between 9-12 months if we space her shots out.

spps- Sounds like things will be busy for you!

Not a heck of a lot to report here. Still working on foods with my e-diet. I'm hoping to try to add eggs back in soon. If she fails on those, I'll probably give up for a while and keep with the allergen free diet while I start her on solids. I'd like to start her on solids by the time she's 7 months. She seems interested in them now. She now thinks the car wash and the vacuum are the most terrifying things ever. I forgot that DS went through that stage and unfortunately I think it lasted a long time.

spps I was wondering - does your DS keep Passover with you in any way? How do you handle it?

DS does Passover just like us. We get rid of all foods that are leavened bread, pasta, cereal, flour, oatmeal, etc, as well as certain legumes (peanuts, beans, soy), and all grain based products. He will have matza cereal, eggs, matza brei, cheese, yougurt for breakfast, lunch will be things like matza and cream cheese, potato breaded fish sticks, baked potatoes, eggplant parm, blintzes, tuna, eggsalad and dinner will be things like chicken, meatballs (made with matza meal), kugels, chicken soup, broccolli soup. Also, where I live the supermarkets carry special passover cereals, pizza, pasta etc. though IMO they are pretty gross so we just skip them.

ETA - Peever many passover products don't have soy or wheat in them so if you are looking for stuff to eat that DD can handle I would look for Passover stuff. (ie - passover tuna doesn't have soy proteins added). If you want something specific I can check out my supermarket for you.

Passover: we're not Jewish but every Passover, we have to shop for Kosher Coke! I don't know why my husband gets excited but he does.

Shots: Natalie had a reaction at month two but has been great every other month. She's gotten some every month since her one month WBV, sometimes up to three. The ped. said we had two left this year and when she mentioned a visit next month, I asked when they get farther apart and she said when the shots are done. So I may be the only one, but we have a seven month WBV. I'm fine with it since I'm also following her introduction of solids plan. Not because I need to but because it seems logical and OK to me.

Speaking of solids, the last couple of days have been good for her. She actually opens her mouth for the spoon and eats more than before. She's not gulping it down yet but we're making progress.

We're also transitioning her to her crib (I know, finally!). Sunday night she did 3-4 hours and last night, she did 5, I think. Hard for me to know since I was out like a light all night. Oops! We're also trying to start the self soothing thing and I keep trying to tell DH that we don't have to do this all at once. She was EXHAUSTED last night and could barely keep her eyes open until we put her in a crib. And then she was wide awake. So we let her fall asleep in her chair first and then moved her to the crib. Baby steps, right? For Dh and I too.

spps Thanks! DH and I keep Passover, but we only get rid of some of the chametz symoblically. Last year we let DS eat mostly his regular stuff (he was 14 months). Do you ever run into constipation issues with your DS as a result of too much matza? I have to agree on some of the Passover pasta and stuff - blech! We tried the pizza last year, and it was pretty awful. We do a lot of the same stuff you do - matza and cream cheese, tuna salad, chicken salad etc. I just worry if DS will have enough. He's a pretty big eater and certainly loves his legumes and veggies. I think I'll talk to DH and we'll have him do a modified Passover diet this year. He's pretty excited about it - he's been reading his Passover books for the past months and will probably fight all of us for the Afikomen! :)

Jenn too funny about your DH and kosher Coke! Congrats on moving Natalie to her crib...it's all about baby steps. That's how I'm handling Nissa's transition to her crib for her naps. She's toally defiant during her AM nap, but in the afternoon she will go anywhere from 15-45mins in there and then I move her to her swing.

Peever - spps is right about Passover stuff - a lot of it would be good for an e-diet. I hope your DD can tolerate you adding eggs!

spps

VMB - No constipation issues - but DS really loves fruit and veggies and he isn't a big bread/pasta/etc eater usually anyway.
Jenn - The passover soda uses real sugar instead of corn syrup so it tastes slightly different.

On the note of mother's jewelry--I don't like the November birthstone (topaz) and I'm not too keen on traditional mother's jewelry in general--so I wear a vintage "Sagittarius" bracelet. :) I also have a vintage Sag charm on a necklace, along with a Taurus charm (DH and I are both Taurus). If anyone is interested I'm happy to put together something similar for you.

I know all I do is post photos in here, but geez, do our kids grow fast or what? Here's Ms. Audrey Leigh at 20 weeks. She is starting to look like a little girl to me, and less like a baby!

I hope you don't mind me asking!

WBV Between 6 months and 1year~ We've switched peds from the one we had when my DD was at that age, but the ped we were seeing at the time had us come in at 9 months for a development checkup. There were no shots, they just had a quick test to check that she had hit certain developmental milestones.

Things are going pretty well with us. Ethan started solid foods two weeks ago with sweet potatoes and we started pears this past weekend. I'm very conservative with introducing solids and generally wait a full week between introducing new foods to check for reactions. That and the fact that we don't always feed Ethan solid foods every day! I think I'm going to introduce oatmeal next since we haven't done any of the cereals yet. I just didn't want his first taste of "real" food to be boring and I also didn't want to deal with constipation with rice cereal.

It's been hard work keeping Ethan happily occupied these days. He's getting bored quicker and seems to be like his sister in that he loves to leave the house and go somewhere. It doesn't matter where, but staying home all day drives the three of us BONKERS!

He's been going down to sleep pretty easily for us, and last fell asleep in the crib in the kids' room when I put him and DD down to sleep at the same time. He's not so great with naps, and is still napping on our bed because I don't want to try putting both the kids down for a nap at the same time. It's hard enough getting my 2.5 year old to stay in her bed and nap without the distraction of her brother in the crib. She likes to climb in the crib with him and I don't think she'd leave him alone so they could both sleep.

Hey ladies. This torticollis thing is driving me bonkers! We got back from PT and they reevaluated him since he's been going for a month now. He is still tilting and it was a mission to convince the therapist that he has gotta be getting another tooth. He has mastered some skills that he wasn't doing a month ago so at least we have some progress but I guess for me its not good enough. We will see what his pedi says on Friday at his 6 month WBV.

daisy ~ My mom said when I was little I would always climb into my brother's crib (I was just shy of 3 years old when he was born) in the mornings and try to "help" by putting baby powder all over him (when no one else was around, of course). I've seen a couple pictures of my brother and I totally covered in white powder, and it's pretty funny. :)

Peever - We did the 22cal diet for a few weeks, but I noticed that Amelia was spitting up more when I increased the formula portion, so I ended up just going back to the regular portion for most feedings and would give her a 22 cal bottle once a day. Definitely did the trick, I think!

wendalah and cat_lover - cute pics!

Jenn - congrats on moving DD to the crib. It's so hard, but you'll see...you'll all be sleeping better soon.

WBV - Our ped does the following: 1 week, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, and 24 months. After that, it's just once a year.

H&M - Is the best store EVER!! We're supposed to get 4 here in Atlanta in the next few months and I can't wait! We don't have any yet.

Worst Mom of the Year Award - So, Amelia fell off the couch this morning. She's completely fine, but man, did it scare me! Here's what happened: We've been potty training our older DD, and she had an accident this morning, right as I was getting ready to feed Amelia. So, I plopped Amelia down on the couch with a couple of toys while I cleaned up Maia's mess. Before I know it, I hear a thump, followed by screams and cries. Thank goodness she's alright! You'd think that I would know better, but I just reacted to DD1's accident and didn't think that Amelia would fall off.

We had our 6-month WBV last Friday:
Height: 27 1/2"
Weight: 20 lbs, 8 oz

I have a question about poop. Please pardon my graphic descriptions! Up until a few weeks ago, DS was pooping about 3 times a day - typical breastfed baby poops. Then all of a sudden, he started going every other day, or even every 3rd day, and it's thicker, a little darker, and a LOT stinkier.
* The change happened before he started on solids. (And he barely swallows any solids now, so I don't think that's a factor.)
* I don't think he's sick - it's not hard, or super dark, or anything worrisome like that.

Has anyone else experienced a sudden change like that? Is it related to the 6-month growth spurt?

Jewelry: i got an opal for Christmas since I asked my DH for something to commemorate her birth. The real gift was a custom Rock'n'Roll type poster which is kind of a fancy birth announcement but they customized it so it looks like the show i work on. Hard to explain. But anyway, it wasn't done in time so I got an Opal necklace to tide me over!

Sammy, I feel the same way. Slow down!

The crib thing is going well, though I have to confess that since DH stays up later than I do, he's kind of in charge of bedtime. And the solids thing is going really well. She's actually enjoying them now and it's so cute to see her opening her mouth for the spoon! Bananas went great and now we're on applesauce! Yay!

Carrie DD's poops changed to what you're describing when she was about 7 weeks old. She never poops more than once a day and, hasn't for awhile, and sometimes goes a couple days without pooping. Our doctor said it's normal and as long as the poop is soft-ish, it's fine. (How's that for TMI? ;) ) I was kinda bummed out that her poop got stinky so early on but I guess it makes the transition to solids easier because I dont' notice a huge change now that we've started her on cereal.

Birthstones - DH got me a fire opal necklace which is great because I love orange and don't love the look of regular opals.

Jenn (and Bill)
04-17-2008, 06:56 PM
I've never heard of a fire opal.

So Natalie might be sick. But we don't think so. Yesterday when DH picked her up, they said she'd vomitted a lot. And was cranky. But she was fine all night? So it seems she was cranky again today and they say she vomitted around 4. THey didn't call us to pick her up but they sent the note home saying she wasn't to come back tomorrow without a doctors note. She seems pretty mellow tonight but she hasn't fussed and she hasn't puked. I don't think it's a big deal for DH to stay home with her tomorrow. He's supposed to work but he's going to be off the next couple of weeks so he can make it up.

I appreciate their concern. And they say it breaks their hearts when she's not her usual smiley self. But I'm not seeing any symptoms? Is it possible she's getting separation anxiety already? I was hoping that daycare wouldn't be an issue since she's there a good chunk of time?

Poop ~ Mikey most of the time has solid looking poop but sometimes its not solid. It was like this even before he started solids though. I think their bodies get to a point where more water is absorbed in their digestive track. Who knows!

Jenn - Glad the crib thing is going well. It'll get better and better. And isn't it cute seeing them open their mouths when you give them their solids. I love it! And yes they can get separation anxiety starting at 6 months according to our pedi. Hopefully Natalie is doing better today.

Me - Mikey had his 6 month WBV this morning. He knew something was up as soon as I undressed him. Usually he is his happy self but not this time. Its like he knew that he was gonnba get shots today.

Thatcher just got his first 2 teeth on Wednesday...man he cried worse than I ever remember! He was out of his mind! I pray that all his teeth are not so traumatic for him.

Other than that he still has the diaper rash from hell...so bad. I've slathering him in Lotrimin per the dr's recommendation and it got a tad better and now it's bad again. I just want it to clear up so I can try to figure out what solid rood gave it to him...I still blame squash.

QOTD~ What size clothing are your DC's wearing now? What brands do you like best and why?

We are in 9mo but really need to move to 12mo soon. I have found Gymboree has a generous cut on tops and bodysuits which suits my little rolly polly baby well. Osh Kosh seems cut too small for him.

garden - Easton had a diaper rash like that in the hospital. They tried every rash cream but nothing worked. They got a script for Nystain and that cleared him right up. I got a script of that for Julianna as well, it's about $3.00 at the pharmacy, but you need a script for it. It's for yeast rashes.

QOTD - the girls are in some 0-6 for Katelyn and 3-9 month stuff for Julianna. Most of the 0-3 is getting too short on Katelyn now though.

diaper rash - When my DDs get bad rashes, I mix Anti-fungal cream made for athlete's foot or jock itch with Desitin...clears is right up!

size - LOL! Amelia is just getting into 3-6 month sizes (she just moved up from size 1 diapers to size 1-2) :o. I really really like Carters clothing. It's always soft, and most of their clothes are now tag-less. Plus, you can often find cute Carters clothes at Costco!

teeth - None yet here either, but she's been drooling and knawing for ages. I can't wait for her bottom ones to poke through.

Jenn - I hope your DD is feeling better. Amelia totally has separation anxiety already (she gets upset if I just leave the room, even if DH is holding her). What can I say...Mommy ROCKS! :p:D

No teeth here yet and we're six months and one week already! She's drooling and everything but who knows?

So N went to the doc today and got checked since daycare didn't want her back. seems she has another cold. Yay! She does have a much runnier nose. And she's fussier. But all in all, she's OK. It could be a rough weekend though.

Not sure about the separation anxiety. She does cry if we're sitting by her and leave her. Any suggestions on that?

Oh, crib question. At one point can they sleep with pillows or blankets? She's going to end up in our bed tonight because we want to prop her up since she has a cold and I'm worried about using a pillow or blanket in the crib without being there to make sure she's OK. I think it's silly to worry since she's doing great at tummy time and plays with blankets all the time in the chair. I just worry because everyone says not to do it. (I also had to take away a plastic bag that said "this is not a toy" which made me laugh!)

Clothes: we're just growing out of the 6 month clothes in most lines. We're a huge carters family and almost everything I have is from there or Target. Some old navy stuff but I find theirs run small so the 6-12 will be more like 6-9. I also get a fair amount at BRU but I'd say she's about 80% carters.

Jenn, you can put a pillow under the wheels of the crib on one side or what I always do is put a pillow under the mattress on the side that the baby lays on most. This way no need to worry about the baby laying directly on a pillow.

Clothes - we have Children's Place and lots of Carter's clothes. Bought an assortment of clothes tonight at our multiples sale. Some Levi's, Circo, Carter's and many more brands. 33 items came to $45 (breaks down to all items being $1.36 each, some stuff was only $1 or 1.50), only 1 thing was a toy and it was only $1 for the Tupperware shape sorter.

spps- I highly doubt we have any passover foods. The Jewish population around here is pretty much non-existent.

Kellie- I'm so glad I'm not the only one with a baby who has a short attention span. I kept reading of everyone being so happy with this stage, but it's still a lot of work for me to keep DD entertained. She's getting better about rolling around so she doesn't whine quite as much. I try to get out of the house every morning and afternoon too because I can't stand to be home with both kids all day.

Sammy- Good luck with the PT. He is a big boy. No wonder the size 3 dipes were too small!

Liv- I'm glad it helped. It did the trick for DS too. I'm glad Amelia is okay. I'm guilty of doing that sometimes too.

honey- That's a pretty ring!

Carrie- I'm not a good person to ask about poop since DD has so many digestive troubles, but that sounds normal. As long as he's not having troubles passing it, it should be fine.

Ericka- I'm sure days like yesterday never get easier for you. Do you do anything special on her birthday?

Jennifer- I think 6 months is still a little early for teeth. DS got his around 8 months so I'm expecting it to be another month or two before DD gets any. The pre-teething process takes months. Lots of drool and cramming things in their mouths!

garden- Have you tried Triple Paste? That works really well.

clothes- I buy a lot of Gymboree and that runs big IMO so DD is just outgrowing their 3-6 and moving into 6-12. She's in 6 months clothes for the most part. She was 16 lbs at 6 months.

separation anxiety- We've got it bad. She often cries when I leave the room and I left her with DH at bedtime the other night so I could go out with DS and she cried for 1.5 hrs and refused to eat and was still up at 9pm when we got home. :(

Jenn- I usually either prop the mattress up or the crib up by putting thick books under them. I wouldn't use a pillow in the crib, but I do use blankets. DD won't sleep without her lovey. She has to hold it and rub it on her face.

Still having problems with DD. I'm still debating about asking for a GI referral. I just hate to put her through tests though, but she really can't digest anything. Of course now that I'm a SAHM we had to get private health insurance and I don't know what will be covered. Sigh. We really can't afford to pay for thousands of dollars of medical expenses out of pocket. I might give her a few more weeks and see what happens.

For the zodiac jewelry, I just searched for the charms on eBay (I like the vintage round ones--I had a charm bracelet back in 1976 or so :) ), and string them on a chain. You can mix gold and silver, or wear all gold/silver, etc.

Sorry, no time for SO's. I just had my gallbladder out on Thursday so I don't have the strength to sit at the computer for too long. Here's my quick drive by post...

Teeth - Yes! The 2 bottom ones came in within the last month. He did great. He was a bit fussy, but still slept through the night!

Clothes - He is wearing 9mo or 12mo in some stuff. We have a chunker on our hands. He is around 22 pounds. :o

Seperation Anxiety - Yes, I think we are experiencing this a little. He does not do well with strangers either.

Peever - yesterday was a bit tough, was busy taking care of the kids and then sent several hours helping set-up our clothing sale. We don't usually do anything for her birthday. I usually have a cry sometime in either the days approaching or the day of and look at her photo on the bookcase. This year was different because we have the girls that of course keep me very busy. I will always remember her, especially since her b-day is 6 days after mine.

OK so I have two questions for today. I think I want to buy a pool for the summer. We don't seem to have access to one but have a small deck so I was thinking we could get one. Most of the ones I found on TRU and Target's websites seem to be for older kids? Is there a reason for this? I'm assuming it would be fine as long as we're out there with her, right? I mean....I'm not stupid enough to leave her out there by herself!

Also, what are your thoughts on walkers? She's doing really good in the Baby einstein bouncer and the Exersaucer we have. (I know we don't need both but our friends offered us their hand me down Exersaucer just recently and we took it!) So I was thinking a walker would be good so she could get the hang of using her feet. But did I read here that it actually isn't good for kids? My main concern now is that we don't have enough room for her to go too far but I'll deal with that when she's really mobile?

Jenn (and Bill)

Ericka, it sounds like you're dealing with it extremely well. Not that it's AT ALL the same, but today is the anniversary of my brother's death. I usually find that I spend the whole week leading up to it thinking I'm going to be so miserable that I can't get out of bed. And then when the day comes, it's much better than I anticipate. This year's easier because of natalie but also adds that whole dimension where I have to face the fact that she's never going to meet her Uncle Mark. So I guess I feel like I can relate to a tiny portion of what you're dealing with. And my thoughts are with you!

Thanks Jenn. Sorry to hear of your brother's passing. I will tell the kids about their big sister one day and show them her pictures.

I heard from my brother today. Saw him a couple weeks ago for th first time since our dad died almost 5 yrs ago. At his funeral I mentioned a song that my dad use to sing to me when we would be in the care together. My brother told me back at the funeral he remembers the song as well and would record it for me (he has a band) He told me today he didn't forget and was just looking for the right version of words to make sure he has it right. While talking to him, I found several versions and I think the right one. Sent it to him so hopefully he can get it recorded for me now so my kids can hear a song that is a special memory of my dad, their grandpop, who they will never get to meet unfortunately. Knowing my brother remembered what he promised me 5 yrs ago about the song for my kids to get to know a piece of our dad, made me cry.

Ericka~ I remember little Rebekah, we were in the same due date group at the time and I can't imagine how hard it must be for you on her birthday.

Peever~ The sitting/non-mobile stage is great but Ethan still needs quite a bit of interaction. Thankfully I have my 2.5 year old DD that helps out in that department! He thinks she's a riot!

Jenn~ You should be able to find an infant pool for cheap. I'll be upgrading ours this year because my DD will be 3 and too big for it but our inflatable infant pool came from Walmart and lasted two years.

Teeth~ No teeth yet but I think they're coming. Poor Ethan was miserable this afternoon/evening so I gave him an icecube in a mesh feeder and he went to town on it. I gave in and gave him some Tylenol and comfort nursed him for 45 minutes before his bath/bed tonight since he seemed so uncomfortable. I hope he sleeps okay tonight. I saw a white spot on the bottom side of his mouth so we'll see if a tooth pops up from there soon.

Clothes~ Clothing my kids is a hobby so we have tons, but I'm buying 6-12 month stuff for this summer and he's already wearing some of it. Ethan seems to have short legs though, 6-12 fit everywhere but in pant length! I'll probably wind up sizing down for his pants like I do for my DD a fair amount of the time. As for brands he has a ton of Janie & Jack and Gymbo with some other brands mixed in as well. I just ordered his first Mini Boden outfit for this summer tonight, can't wait to get it!

We spent the night at the beach on Thursday. We walked the beach Friday morning and Ethan was less then impressed! We were at Seaside on the Oregon Coast and it was pretty chilly and windy and he didn't care for that at all. I was wearing him in my wrap with my coat over him so he eventually snuggled down and fell asleep.

Girls - they are both rolling over from front to back and vice versa. This morning I think Julianna sort of shocked herself as she rolled from her back to tummy in the crib. They are both still teething with no tooth in sight just yet. Be cute if they both popped on on Mother's Day, they would be just like Easton then.

DD has a tooth! I was really surprised. I just happened to feel it this morning. It's just starting to poke through. This is 2 months earlier than DS. She's been doing surprisingly well. She's always on the fussy side and a crappy sleeper from her stomach issues, but the past few nights have been worse than normal. It's nice to have something extra to blame it on. ;)

She's really rolling all over the living room now. I need DH to make a new baby gate pronto because I'm not comfortable leaving her alone for more than a minute these days.

juliet- I hope you're feeling better soon!

Ericka- I'm sure it's especially hard to have her birthday so close to your's.

Jenn- We just have one of those small hard plastic pools. Walkers aren't recommended because of the dangers of falling down stairs, etc. I'm okay with exersaucers because they're stationary.

Kellie- Yes, DD still likes a lot of interaction as well. It is nice to have DS to help entertain her. She either loves him and thinks he's hilarious or cries every time he comes near her, depending on how tired she is. ;)

DD seems grumpy today, I wonder if it is tooth related? I always blame her grumpy moods on phantom teeth. ;)

Separation Anxiety - Haven't seen it too much yet, but then again I'm always with DD do she doesn't have many chances to feel anxious. LOL! I was thinking about leaving her in the church nursery this morning, but changed my mind after observing in there for a few minutes. I saw the woman take a pacifier from one child and put it in another child's mouth (it belonged to child #2). Then shortly after another child was rooting through the garbage can, putting a straw in her mouth! That was enough for me, we went back to the service.

Clothes - We pretty much only buy Gymboree for our DD. She has a few other things that were gifts including Oilili, Lili and some Carter's, but she's mostly a Gymbo girl. Still size 3-6.

Does anyone else's child love to blow raspberries? Our DD has discovered this and has been blowing like crazy the last couple of days. It's pretty cute.

Jenn (and Bill)
04-20-2008, 02:58 PM
Peever, we don't have any stairs inside so I'm not worried. Is that the only issue on walkers? Of course, we also have mostly carpet but I think I'd try it anyway if there are no other reasons for me to be cautious!

I wish I had a tooth to blame the fussiness on...but I do have the cold. And realistically, she does pretty good considering she has a cold. Sometimes I feel like my DH and I are never awake at the same time. We seem to alternate on weekends and one of us is always napping! Of course, it doesn't help that my DH stays up until 3 or so in the morning. When DD woke up at 3, DH was still up so he had to stay up with her even longer. Then I took the 6-11 shift, etc.

It'll be amazing if I get anything done today other than the laundry and dishes! We get to try pears tomorrow!!!

raspberries - the girls blow them all the time, they have been since about 3 months old. It's cute as can be, but a pain when they are eating.

honeygirl~ I don't blame you for not leaving your DD in that church nursery! I started leaving Ethan at ours a little over a month ago. I was a little worried at first because our church is small and Ethan was the only non-walking baby and I didn't want him to get run over!

Raspberries~ Ethan started blowing raspberries a few weeks ago and it's really cute. Thankfully he hasn't figured out that he can do it while eating solid foods yet but I'm sure that's coming.

Today was the first day that Ethan really seemed to get excited about eating solid food. It was about halfway through his oatmeal cereal when all of a sudden something clicked like "hey this is food and it tastes GOOD!" and he turned into a ravenous little piggie! We started solid foods about two weeks ago and until now he wasn't super excited about it and was just as happy to spit out the food as to swallow it. I can't wait until he can do finger foods since that's so much easier and fun.

Peever ~ Yay on a tooth! And the rolling. LOL

Sizes ~ We are now in 6-9 month clothes. It was sad putting away the 3-6. I like Carter's brand better than any other. I ordered some stuff from Old Navy last week and am anxiously awaiting to see if they are on the small side compared to what I last ordered from them.

Walkers ~ I also read that they aren't good for kids. We won't be buying the traditional walker. When he is taking steps I'll buy something that'll promote him to walk and push something (not sure what these are called). For now he's content in his jumperoo.

Rasberries ~ Mikey LOVES to blow rasberries. He also is gargling too its the weirdest thing. I guess he's practicing for his future listerine gig LOL

We had a busy weekend. I had to go to the Carter's outlet to buy a bunch of 6-9 month clothes and also had to return a butt load of size 3 diapers that we never got to even open up and get size 4's instead. I tell ya I'm so glad I made the switch! LOL Yesterday we went to a bapitsm and I was holding Mikey and trying to eat a piece of cake and all of a sudden I see his mouth open up like he was wanting some. Then he went for my plate trying to get the cake himself. LOL I told him he had to wait less than 6 months for that. He's been acting weird though when it comes to his bottle feedings. It almost seems like for the past couple of days when he drinks his formula he gets super cranky. I'll try burping him thinking it can be that but even after burping he's beyond fussy. I've never seen him so fussy even when tooth #2 came in, it wasn't this bad. I have no idea if this is gas, his uppers coming in or maybe even reflux? He has been spitting up more too when I feed him. I'm just clueless!

Peever - yay on the tooth! That's great!

Sammy - that's great that you were able to return the diapers!

Daisysue - what a cute pic of the beach outing!

honeygirl - I too would have gone right back to the service! We did the nursery with DS starting whenhe was 4 months old, but we know the ladies in there pretty well and he does very good.

Sizes - we are in 3-6 month very comfortably still. I think we will stay in that for another month or so. No favorite clothing brand.... we are in size 2 diapers still as well. Tried 2-3's this weekend and they are huge

Rolling - DS rolled from back to tummy today - twice! YAY! Obviously all drs are different, but our dr told us that he likes for them to be rolling both ways by the time they are 6 months old. And if they don't roll both ways yet, he wants them to definitely be attempting it/showing an interest in it. DS on Thursday will be 6 months old, he rolled from tummy to back at 3 months, so I was very glad that he did the other way now. I can tell the dr yes when he asks that at our WBV!

Raspberries - DS loves this. He loves to imitate you if you do it to him, he just laughs....

Foods - DS has applesauce or pears every day along with his cereal to help him go to the bathroom. That always does seem to help so we are relieved. After our 6 month wbv we are going to do veges

Sitting up - DS can sit up on his own for over 30 mins, it is so nice to sit him down now and know he will stay there.

Seperation anxiety - DS has this a bit, more so when he is really in a mommy mood, I can play with him and he be just fine, but if I go out of eyesight he gets upset at times. Happens probably once/day.

DS is signed up for swimming lessons - they start the first week of May. We are very excited - we have a pool and so do my parents so we need him to be comfortable in the water. You have to be 6 months old to take them and we are just at the cutoff for the May classes. I can't wait - I took him to the pool last week and he loved it!

Is there a 6 month growth spurt?? DS has not been himself today. He has been sleeping a lot today. He has missed 2 bottles today because he's been sleeping so much. I immediately thought growth spurt but I wasn't sure if there was another one at 6 months.

Clothes DD is still in 3-6 months for most things, but we're slowly transitioning to 6-12 months. Her brother was in 6-12 months at 4months :p
We have all kinds of brands - mostly baby Gap on sale(it's 3 blocks from our house and dangerous....but we do get great deals!), Carter's for sleepers, occansional Gymbo, a little bit of Zutano (DH and I LOVE the baby patterns) and then some random brands from TJ Maxx and Marshall's. For each age group we do have a "nicer" outfit like Daily Tea or Deux par Deux - I love the brands but hate to pay the $$

teeth nada - lots of drooling and gnawing at things, but not teeth yet. DH and I and DS were all late teethers.

rolling very rarely. But mostly from tummy to back. She does roll to her side from her back and is *almost* there, but either gets stuck on her arm or distracted. DS did not really do the rolling around the room thing either. In some ways it's a blessing I guess, because I know I'll find her where I left here. She does turn herself around by lying on her back, swinging her legs in the air and moving...she's done "donuts" that way.

raspberries our little girl is a chatterbox and loves to blow rasperries in between. She won't do it with food yet - I think like her brother, she's really stingy with it and doesn't want to waste any! :)

solids we're doing oatmeal and pears only so far. I started her on pears sooner than I had planned, so I am delaying introducing more to her until after 6 months. The pears seem to keep her at bay...I give her oatmeal with pears in the AM and then straight up pears in the afternoon. She pooped 4 times yesterday, so the pears seem to be doing their job...

sitting up she can do it for a minute or two depending on the day.

suggestions for middle of the night bottle? DH and I are heading to Boston this weekend (YAY!) and my in-laws are watching the kids at our house. I've done all the night feeding since Nissa was born, so I was wondering if anyone has any good tips for getting bottles ready before bedtime or how to handle it? Generally, I go to her room, don't ever turn on the light, change her diaper, nurse her and don't really give her much time to wake up too much. How do you handle this if you have to warm up a bottle? I told MIL that she can probably thaw out milk before she goes to bed (around 10 or so) and keep the bottle on the counter (Nissa will be up by 2-3) so the milk should be able to survive....? Will that cut down on heating time? ANy suggestions are appreciated! I have complete faith in my in-laws with the kids, I just want to make it easier for them if I can....

Rolling: Natalie's getting better but still not consistent. And she's great at going back to side but not really interested in going all the way to her tummy. She does do a new thing on her tummy which is scooch back by pushing off with her hands. Not exactly crawling but probably the early stages. It's especially funny since a lot her tummy time is on the oversize ottoman we also use as a changing table and she'll end up scooching her bottom half right off of it. Of course, I'm sitting there watching her so it's not dangerous or anything. It's kinda cute!

VMB ~ Have you tried giving DD the milk cold? That would save your IL's the time of having to warm it up. I didn't think DS would ever take cold milk in a bottle since he was used to it being warm "from the tap", but he took it no problem and didn't seem to mind. Just a thought. :)

rolling ~ DS still just rolls back to tummy, and he's really taken to doing it at night and then calling for mom to come flip him back over. I will be so glad when he can roll himself back over!

sitting ~ Not yet, but I'm hoping soon!

teeth ~ None yet. I didn't get my first tooth until I was 9 months though, so DS may be a late bloomer as well. :)

Yep, that sounds a lot like my DS a week or two ago. He got a lot bigger and taller, practically overnight - it's a very noticeable difference.

We're now transitioning into 12-18 month pajamas (the kind with feet). They are so hard to find! I prefer Carter's pajamas, but I think the footed ones max out at 9 months. We have a couple from Baby Gap, but they're cut for skinny babies, and DS is a chub. I guess I will have to start dressing him in romper-type pajamas soon. Good thing summer is coming.

Carter's footed PJ's run up until 3T or higher (DS is wearing fleecy type 3T's now). But we were in the store a week or so ago and I noticed that they did not have the footed ones in a bigger size like during the winter....maybe that's it? I did see some 12month in girl colors (looking for Nissa), so I am assuming they'll have them for boys...?
Re. the Gap PJ's - my DS was also a chub like yours, but managed to fit into their PJ's they're relatively stretchy....I actually like them since they fit snug and were from light cotton.

VMB: I would not leave a thawed-out milk bottle on the counter from 10 to 2...my general rule is if it's refrigerated (or frozen) it only stays out 1 hour (based on recommendations I've seen everywhere else). It's possible it'll be fine (smell test) but I certainly wouldn't risk it. You can try giving the bottle only slightly warmed (run under some hot water and swirled) but only if she's ok with the partially cold milk.

Enjoy Boston - that's where I live! Too bad it's supposed to be cloudy and 50s on the weekend. If you feel like shelling out the $ the Duck Tour is pretty fun, and this is where it started (so they say).

OMIGOSH, if you both eat meat (or even chicken, and they do serve veggie burgers) you should go to Bartley's Burgers...ARL ARL ARL! So delish - their onion rings are awesome, as are the lime rickeys.

Also, Burdick's (http://www.burdickchocolate.com/stores-and-cafes-cambridge.asp) is delish and has fantastic hot chocolate (if it's cold enough for that!).

I have more, but baby crying...be back later!

ok, I guess the other things I like to do there are just walking around the Harvard grounds, and seeing some of the old churches in the area (there's an Episcopalian church where G. Washington spent one Christmas Eve, IIRC). You can also walk down to the river right there and it's pretty. Did you have other things in mind for Harvard Sq?

For 12-18 pjs. I usually put Easton in a onesie and a pair of cotton pants for bed. Did that all last summer and already started this year. The girls were dressed the same way the other night. They seemed super comfy. I don't care for the pjs that are 2 piece, since the pants always seems to fall off Easton's skinny butt.

Carters does make footed jammies in larger sizes but I think that VMB is right that they only do so in the winter. The summer ones are two pieces. You might check The Childrens Place since I know that they do zipper footed jammies through toddler sizes and we loved them!

Ethan had his 6 month WBV last night and he's grown! Here's his new stats:

Weight: 16lbs 4oz
Height: 27.25"

He's still kind of between 3-6 and 6-12 clothing sizes depending on brand/piece. For the most part he's in 6-12 though, and in 9 month Carters jammies. We don't go back until his 1 year check up. Well, we'll see the ped again this summer for my DD's 3 year check up so I do have an opportunity to talk to her again if I'm concerned about anything.

I hope you ladies will find this amusing. Our daycare seems particularly concerned about ear infections. Any time Natalie is grumpy or spits up a lot, they tell us they think she has an ear infection. So she's gone to the doc a couple extra times because as new parents, we don't want to assume she's fine....daycare's been doing this longer than we have. Well, she's never had an ear infection. Her most recent trip to the ped for this was last Friday and the doc said she had a cold. Lo and behold, on Monday, I started coughing and now I'm sick. I went to my doc today. Turns out....I have an ear infection! OY! Why didn't daycare warn me about that????

I might add....Natalie is dealing with her illness much better than me.

I've already missed 5 days of work this year for being sick because of that stomach bug I had in January and now this. And there was another cold I had in between but went to work anyway. I don't think I've missed this many days of work for being sick in the last three years!!! Does motherhood change your immune system? Is it because of the body changes? Is it because I'm not taking care of myself, though I think I am? Any suggestions? I hate being sick!

DD's still doing pretty good with the teething. I might try her on solids this weekend if her poop is still looking better. I can't believe she'll be 7 months on Tuesday. She won't sit still during diaper changes any more. She keeps trying to roll over. Fun times. I took the sleep positioner out of her crib now that I'm confident in her ability to roll both ways and I think she sleeps on her stomach half the time now. I think she sleeps better that way. Surprisingly I haven't had much problems with her protesting it. I think she's too tired to care. I still put her to sleep on her side though.

Jenn- It's because Natalie's in daycare. The daycare germs are a doosie. I was sooooo sick after DS started in daycare. You'll get used to it eventually. I wasn't getting any sleep so that didn't help my cause. I hope you're feeling better soon!

VMB - on the milk. It'd probably be fine if they set frozen milk out on the counter to let it thaw, then just warmed it up or if you thawed some out ahead of time and they just warmed it at the right time. BM is usually good 4-5 hours after heated.
Oh and I second Bartleys burgers in Harvard square. tasty!

rolling - DS can roll both ways, but almost never does anymore

sitting - he's sitting great for several minutes at a time. he'll sit for 5-10 minutes and play before he topples over and after the first time tipping he doesn't sit up as well.

food - I've been making his food since we started a few weeks ago and we've had (in order of introduction) Bananas, pears, sweet potato, avacado, and butternut squash. I have some carrots made up, but I'm thinking we'll do another green one first.

teeth - none yet. he's been teething on and off for the last 2 weeks, but still nothing to indicate a tooth coming soon.

clothes - right before 5 months DS outgrew some of his 6-9 month stuff (miniwear, circo and a couple other brands) but he's still wearing the carters 9 month and can easily wear 12 month clothes in other brands. we are using cloth diapers though, which is part of why certain 6-9 month things don't fit. also, his torso is really long.
I am going to miss his PJs his toes are at the end of all his carters ones and I did find a couple 12 month ones in other brands, but they're the same size as the carters 9 month. I love footed sleepers (especially ones that snap instead of zip) and I hope I can find some in bigger sizes. I've been scouting out local consignment stores for them

jenji, sounds like things are going well! I hear you on the teething....when are they coming? I could have sworn Carters had 12 month sleepers but now I'm doubting myself!

OK, ladies.....a week from today, I fly to Vegas for a work weekend. DH and DD are staying home. I'll only be gone about 60 hours but seriously, am I going to survive without her? I could have taken them but the flights were so pricey and it was such a short trip, I didn't think it made sense. And now, I miss her already. Of course, it would help if I were healthy right now and I could be enjoying her to her fullest.

I'm kind of dying to go out tomorrow and look for a walker and a pool and maybe a toddler chair since she's sitting up so well. I'll probably make a trip to see what I can find if I'm up to it. But my cold and ear infection are at an all time annoying peak! I can't blow my nose or my head hurts and I can't sniff or my head hurts. UGH! Thankfully, she seems to be getting better!

Jenn I just came back from a weekend away, so I know how you feel. It went by sirprisingly fast and I really did enjoy having my own schedule for the 1st time in...forever! But I missed the kiddos and was sooo excited to get back.

merjmo thanks for all the tips! We ended up just sort of waling around. We did walk by the river and around the Harvard campus. It was still really nice on Friday, but when the temp dropped it got pretty chilly! I love Boston and we had such a good time....I had never noticed all the babies and strollers before though... :D

Thanks everyone for tips with the middle of the night feedings. My MIL just kept the milk in the fridge and warmed it up. The kids did great, I don't think they even skipped a beat! And on the way back with my milk, I made a pretty loud announcement about milk in a cooler when we were going through security, and I think the TSA guy was so emabarassed he just waved for me to put it on the belt and didn't even open it to look at it! I kept the milk in a fridge in freezer bags at the hotel and then had a gel pack with them in the PIS cooler. I randomly checked a coule of the bags and the milk smells fine so I just froze it.

DD is six months today! I can't believe it!

DS finally rolled from tummy to back on Friday evening! Now he can roll both ways (YAY! Less stress for mom at night!) and spent most of the weekend doing so. :) We also gave him some EBM on a spoon yesterday and he got the hang of it after the first couple of tries. He kept reaching for the spoon, the little booger...he's going to be a handsy one! :p We're planning to start cereal next weekend and I have a feeling it's gonna be messy! LOL

Question - How much milk or formula is/was your DC taking at 6 months, and how often was he/she eating? Right now DS is taking 4 oz every 2 hours, and we have GOT to start stretching that out. I'm thinking maybe 6 oz every 3 hours? I know every baby is different, but I'm curious what o
