I hope no one here had a flight booked with them.
I knew a couple of people that had flights booked with Aloha and are fighting to try to get their money back. One was smart and paid with a credit card, the other person probably lost their money forever.

I've been trying to fix my flights (for June trip to HI) all morning. Getting money back through credit card was easy. But new flights are $$$$!!! And we have no choice b/c SIL is getting married, so it's not like we can just cancel the trip.
I re-booked in a hurry to make sure that we got seats. But then found better flights, on hold to see what I can do to fix them.
MIL tells me that both Aloha and ATA are owned by American. I guess I should have seen it coming when Aloha went down a few days ago...

pixiecat-Not sure where in California you are flying from, but we were able to find direct flights out of LAX on United to Hawaii (Maui) in May which were only $200 more than our original Aloha airline flights out of OC. We re-booked them ourselves, however. It was more expensive, but we were just glad to get a direct flight that wasn't $2000 per person.
We found getting the money back from the credit card company was easy, too. Thank goodness I didn't pay cash for them!

I ended up using my United miles (saver, so not a bad deal). I just needed to get it done & tickets were going up every minute. This has caused me so much stress this morning! Our return flight has TWO stops! That should be fun with a 2-year old...
I need to keep it in perspective.

That's terrible! Fortunately, we were able to get direct flights.
MIL tells me that both Aloha and ATA are owned by American.
That's not true.

Well, that doesn't surprise me in the slightest. She is usually full of shit.

Skybus:Another One Bites the Dust (http://www.cnn.com/2008/TRAVEL/04/04/airlines.bankruptcy/index.html)
(CNN) -- Skybus Airlines announced Friday it is shutting down its passenger flights -- becoming the third airline this week to cease operations.
Skybus said all flights Friday would be completed; passengers with reservations for Saturday and beyond were told to seek refunds from their credit card companies.

Wow, I had no idea airlines were shutting down  No wonder airplane tickets are so damn high now....
:( Yea, I lost my free flight to Kauai with rapid rewards thru Southwest. :(
My mom's flight, however, we are waiting to hear what SW is going to do for us - refund or find us another flight. But that means I have to buy my flight. Boo! :(

And today, Frontier.
Maybe we should change the thread title to "Airlines in Bankruptcy"
I'm supposed to fly American on an MD-80 next week so I pray their house is in order by then.

Frontier is supposed to still operate at least.....not leave passengers stranded and sol in some cases.

Right, their situation is a little different.
I actually flew Frontier for the first time a couple of weeks ago - Not too shabby of an experience. And I flew Midwest just this week. It's interesting to get to compare different carriers because I usually fly only AA. Their customer service sucks, really, but their strength is in their network - They go everywhere, all the time. And where I live, I don't have a ton of other options.

Frontier flies out of Akron, so I usually price quote them. Sometimes they're close, but it's usually not close enough to be worth the extra drive time. Still, I've heard good things about them, so I always keep them in the back of my mind.
