I just had all over color with highlights done. I am left with straw looking hair when I do not use products. Does anyone have any tips on affordable but effective products to make it look better? My hair is thin (but a lot of it) and wavy.

My stylist swears by weekly V05 hot oil treatments.

I get highlights, have lots of fine hair and tend to get dry ends especially this time of year. I like the Neutrogena 60 second hair repair when I need a deep conditioner.
But usually I just wash my hair once with a color-safe shampoo then follow up with a light daily conditioner and it tends to work fine. Right now I'm using the Dove pro-age conditioner that my friend gave me as part of a "You're old now" 30th birthday gift. I will never tell her, but I love it.
When I used to have highlights, I would use olive oil to condition my hair. I would leave a squeeze bottle in the shower and comb it through my hair at the beginning of my shower. clean myself, then shampoo it out, then use a bit of conditioner if I felt like I needed it (The highlights made my hair super super DRY) then once a month I would do a warm olive oil treatment similar to the VO5 oil treatment. This is the only thing that would make my hair manageable when I was highlighting it.
I also used a home-made flax seed hair gel to help tame the frizzies. The recipe is here (http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/recipe/recipe.asp?recipe_id=214) (but I don't use the aloe vera or essential oil). This is the best hair gel ever - it's what my Grandmother used to use in the 40's to set her hair and my mom in the 60's as well - I got the recipe through them. :) You can also make a more watery version to put in a spray bottle to tame the frizzies.

Weekly deep conditioning treatments. I love Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle. I shampoo with a clarifying shampoo to get out all the stying gunk out from the week, then slather it on. You can put on a shower cap, finish your shower, then rinse. Or leave it in all day, which is what I do during the winter months. I'll put it in Friday night, then rinse it all out Saturday. Helps immensely.
