Thanks for the new thread! I hope to be able to keep up better with this one. I have been reading along everyday on the PG thread but haven't had the time to post. It is a handful with 2 kids!

Ethan is doing really well. He is getting so big already it is just amazing. Yesterday he slept for 5 hours without eating...during the day...too bad it wasn't at night! I know now that he can do it though!

I had the most horrible thing happen on Sat. I fell while holding Ethan. There was a truck on the floor that I didn't see and I stepped right on it and slipped and landed hard on my butt. Luckily Ethan was fine, but I fell making sure that he was okay so it was akward. I have a big bruise and I was pretty sore on Sun. but I am feeling fine now. It was so scary and I have been dreaming about dropping Ethan since then. It's the worst feeling in the world.

Christina, OMG thank goodness he's ok! How are you?

Kristi, thanks for starting the new thread!!!

JBB, I saw your post in the other thread... Wanaque isn't that far from me, I don't think. Definitely let me know next time you're in Jersey!! As for Mother's Day, all mine as a mom so far have been spent doing what my mom and MIL want to do. Not one has been about me (well last year Scott had us leave early so we could have a picnic lunch just the 4 of us together which was fine by me!)

Leo is now 6 weeks old and we are still waiting for him to sleep in longer stretches at night. I know he can do it, but somehow he just won't go more than three hours at night. Fortunately he has been going back to sleep a lot more easily so I'm not up as long each time. Last night we were up every two hours, sigh.

sparkle Leo has slept five hours during the day too, I hope Ethan and Leo figure out how to do it at night soon! I'm glad to hear you are ok after the fall.

More later when I have two hands....

I posted about this the other day in my LJ, but never did here. Our sleep seems to be getting better. The night before last she slept in her pack and play and stayed there. She woke up once at 3 and once at 6. It was such a switch from having her sleep with us, but man I slept great. Then last night, she slept in the pack and play and I got her at 4:30 to feed her. I'm pretty sure if I'd have just left her, she'd have STTN. Hopefully this is a new trend. Tonight I'm not going to get up and feed her unless she cries. I kept hearing her in her sleep last night thinking she was awake, but she was just making noises in her sleep.

Hey ladies... It took me well over an hour to go thru 30+ pages of the last thread before I could make my way here. I still have stories to share and want to get back with all of you. I'm sorry I couldn't make it back to do S/O's but it's all I could do to get thank you's written and miscellaneous stuff around the house done. Let's hope that I'll be better soon and I know that once I'm back to work in a little over a month ( :( ) I'll be back on with more regularity.

Anyway, here's my info to add to the roster. Hope we gain all our crew back. :)

Me: Karen, 30

DD: Talia Naomi
Birthdate: 2.5.08
Time of birth: 8:06 am

I weighed her on Sunday and she's just around 13 lbs! She's our little butterchubs. :)

Congrats to everyone. I loved catching up and reading all of the birth stories and seeing the pix. It was kind of like Christmas. I felt like I was cheating since I didn't have to "wait" to see how things unfolded for everyone. I knew that all of the babies would have to be here by now. LOL.

But I'll post everything hopefully in the next day few days. I finally figured I'd use my DH's PS3 to log onto the internet and catch up on reading/typing while she's sleeping in her bouncy seat downstairs.

K... she's waking up now for a feeding. Be back soon!

Thanks for the new thread...I still can't believe that I am actually a mommy!

S&S Scary about the fall...glad you were able to not drop the baby, but sorry you got hurt! It's one of my fears...that and whacking his head as I round a corner!:rolleyes:

Elie I can't believe that your friend didn't try to control her toddler better! I am not shy about speaking up to other people's kids, especially in my own home, but she should have definately done it! i just looked at Aaron's stats...he was a little chunker when he was born! lol!

la_Mer I'm with you on the every 2 hour thing. For some reason, I had a hard time getting myself back to sleep last night....that's just not even right!!

histulip Adorable Easter picture!

Pookie Wow, that's good sleeping, hope it continues for you! We had a couple nights in a row where He'd wake up at 11:30, 1 or 1:30 and then 5. That was nice, but is now gone!

raven Wow, she's certainly butterchubs...cute!:)

So last Friday I took DS over to MIL since DSS was already there. When we got there Wyatt woke up and let us know it. I changed him and then told MIL that I brought a bottle so she could feed him ( I thought she would like that). Anyway, DS is a total guzzler when he eats so when MIL started giving him the bottle he started chugging away and she said "He's hungry, shaking her head & looking all concerned. I told her that was just how he ate. I had told her that he had been fussy all morning and I had nursed him basically every hour at that point. I also breast fed him after the bottle because there were only a couple ounces and he wanted more. When DH got there DS was taking a nap and I told him that MIL thinks I'm starving the baby & he even told her that he guzzles when he eats.

Then on Sunday, Easter, we went out to eat dinner with the in-laws. Again, DS was fussy all morning and he didn't even take his usual naps. I changed his clothes to go at 2 and he finally went to sleep @ 2:30, dinner was at 3:30. When we got to the restaurant someone woke him up when I was hanging my coat up -they took his hat off him- so he starts crying. I sat at the table and took him out of his carrier & took his bottle out & of course, MIL comes over & says, "He's HUNGRY!" I told her, no he's mad, he's been fussy, hadn't napped right & he was woken up before he wanted to be. I gave him some from the bottle and he went to sleep...he drank not even 1/2 oz, so it was a comfort suck. I put him in his carrier & went up to the buffet. When I came back to the table, there's MIL feeding him this bottle! I was really pi$$ed but didn't say anything for a few minutes, then told her to not make him finish that bottle. She said I'm not making him. I was really ticked then and didn't say anything else. She put the bottle down and gave him to me. I didn't put him down for the rest of the time even though he was sleeping because I didn't want her to cram that bottle into him. The bottle was formula because he had been so fussy I didn't have time to pump & figured I had probably eaten something that made him gassy anyways. Anyway, I am very irritated with MIL over this...she thinks I don't feed the baby enough & even told DH that we should put cereal in his bottle. He is 5 weeks old!! I told DH no way, he can't hold his head up well enough & there are food allergies in the family so I want to wait on food with him.

Sorry such a long vent! Oh, and of course, his feeding & sleep pattern is now way off from what it was to boot!

mcgwigan: OH MY GOODNESS - that's me! The foremilk/hindmilk is solved with pumping and only bottle feeding as someone explained in the MWP thread. He only has 1 green poop every few days but I was getting concerned. My let down pain is getting worse as each day progresses but I never feel it while i'm pumping, only before about 2 hours after I pump. That is definitely what was happening to my nipples and I tried to BF Ollie again and he is still pinching my nipple. We just don't work well together with the BF'ing so I think i'm giving up on that dream. Pumping is working well and baby is still getting the milk I want to give him. But I have a LOT of milk, I don't feel engorged or hindered by it, i'm proud of it and it will come in handy!! I have been on kellymom.com ALL-THE-TIME. Great resources for articles and such from experience LC's and Ped's about BF'ing and such. GREAT RESOURCE FOR THRUSH if you ever get it.

Good luck with the MIL issues, I have the same problem!!!

Raven - I'm so glad someone else's child seems to be gaining fast! Ollie is definitely at 13lbs, maybe more now. I just feel like I was overfeeding him and even yesterday told DH that I'm worried. Now i feel a little better. Our ped said what we give him is definitely okay as it's breastmilk and he wants it and you can't 'overfeed' a breastfed baby. He gets 5.25oz bottle of bm every3-4 hours.

I love all the pics, keep 'em coming! We have such an adorable group of babies if I do say so myself!!!!!!!!!

raven: Wow, 13 pounds...that's great! She's already out of 0-3 clothes, huh?

mcgwigan: OMG! I would have slapped your MIL! Is she thinking he's not getting enough because you are breastfeeding? Or just because he slurps down the bottle? That is so annoying! DH used to freak everytime we'd give Kassidy a bottle because she was super messy with it. It took me many times telling him the bottle is much faster and she has less control over it than when she's at the boob. I hope your MIL improves her attitude or I wouldn't be able to be around her much if I were you. Maybe your DH will say something to her?

I have a couple of questions.
1. Kassidy is getting the acne. I know it's normal for right after birth, but is it okay that it's set in at 6 weeks? I keep telling myself it's normal, but I expected it to show up before now. I had thought it might have been a reaction to fabric softener in our clothes, but I don't think it is.
2. She's been really fussy in the evenings and the only thing that makes her happy is sleeping. If she's awake, she's crying. I'm so worried that she's getting too much sleep. I thought for sure she wouldn't sleep last night after she slept all evening, but she did fine. Do I just let her sleep? Obviously she needs it if she's that crabby without it, but this is a relatively new thing. Maybe she's not getting enough naps during the day.

Tomorrow we're going to venture out and visit my school. The teachers have been wondering when we were going to stop by. I decided since she's 6 weeks old today, I'm more comfortable taking her to that school environment. Our campus is nothing but Kinder and first grade, so the kids are young and germy! I know the teachers on my team are going to be amazed at how much she's changed in 6 weeks and my kids will be dying to see her, I'm sure. They all asked many times when I was pregnant if I was going to bring the baby to school and I'd always tell them no, there were too many germs!

Honestly it's probably heat rash, Ollie is getting it too. Don't worry it's not really a rash. He seems to get it when he sleeps on people and especially when it's against the skin. He sleeps on my a lot and likes to fall asleep while listening to my heartbeat so i tend to just wear my bravado nursing bra/tank and we are face to chest. He will develop little pimples on whatever side of his face he was on the longest, sometimes both sides. But they go away within 24 hours. I think it's completely normal!

2. She's been really fussy in the evenings and the only thing that makes her happy is sleeping. If she's awake, she's crying. I'm so worried that she's getting too much sleep. So is Ollie. His fussy period is 5-8:30ish. He usually has to eat twice in that time period whereas the rest of the day he will eat every 3-4 hours. He just never wants to go to sleep between those feedings and honestly I've been told that every baby has a fussy period. They outgrow it eventually. I just literally said yesterday to DH that all Ollie does when he's not sleeping is crying lately and it worries me.

mcgwigan ~ Your MIL would have pissed me off also. I would just brush her off and not worry about what she is saying. You know that he is getting enough by his diapers and that's all that matters. As long as your DH is on your side then you are fine. I swear people always want to butt in with 'useful' information and it rarely is. Just remember that things were very different when she was having babies and sometimes by you doing things different they feel like they are being criticized like they did it wrong. Just keep the 'my Ped. says everything is fine and this in what I was told to do' card ready ;)

Pookie~ Ditto everything Sashi said. Probably heat rash or just from rubbing if it goes away. Ethan had major baby acne and also gets the heat rash and they do look similar but they are different. Also Ethan is super fussy in the evenings. He will eat it seems like every hour from 5-8 and if he's awake he's crying. Definitely let her sleep! They also sleep a lot when they are growing.

I gotta run....

Thanks Sashi and S&S! She does get the redness when she sleeps on us, so maybe part of it is heat rash. The rest of it's been there several days now, so it must be the baby acne. Her skin used to be so pretty and now it's not. I had just figured this would have set in before now.

And thanks for the fussy reassurances. She hasn't really been like this before, so it was starting to worry me a bit. It makes sense about the growing thing (and her being 6 weeks). Maybe she's reacting to this growth spurt by sleeping through it instead of eating all the time.

histulip Cute pic!

raven I love that you call her "butterchubs" that is so cute! Wow 13 lbs, way to grow little baby!

mcgwigan Grrr to your MIL. It bothers me so much when people think they know your baby better than you do. Unfortunately I am having a bit of the same issue, but with DH! His first response to a fussy baby is "He's hungry" without even asking me how long it's been since I fed him. The pics you posted in the last thread are great, LOVE his hair!

sashi I'm glad to hear that the pumping/bottle feeding is going well for you. You should be proud that you produce a lot of milk for him, way to go momma!

pookie It bothers me too when Leo spends most of the afternoon snoozing, but on days when he doesn't nap he is very fussy. I think at this age it's just best to follow their lead. Have fun showing her off at school, I bet it will be so much fun seeing your students reactions.

We had the best morning. I found Leo awake in his crib around 8 am entertaining himself, looking at his crib bumper and the wall, and "talking" to his friends. I just watched him for about 10 minutes. It was so cute!

Is it bad that I wish my baby liked his pacifier?? ;) I hate comparing my kids, but my 1st seemed so much less "fussy" mostly becauase he would be content between feedings/sleeping with his pacifier..lol. Drew hates the thing and only takes it on very rare occassions, like in the car. As my husband says, he doesn't want anything in his mouth unless something is coming out of it. Anyone else's DC hate the pacifier?

Anywho. Hi Everyone. Great to see everyone checking in, I'm really hoping the new thread will motivate me to keep up. Life with two kids is hectic (and tiring!) though to say the least.

Acne- Drew only had a mild case of it, it seems to be going away though for the most part. My Ped. had said it peaks at one month, so maybe Kassidy was just a little late to the game... it does go away though, I promise! Connor had a really bad case when he was a newborn.

Fussy time- Like I said, I wish he'd take a pacifier! Our fussy time seems to be from about 6pm-he falls asleep around 10pm.

McGwigan- Sorry you have to deal with that with your MIL. I know I get the same things said subetly from my parents and DH. With breastfeeding, I think they are all convinced he is not getting enough to eat.. it's frustrating and so hard to stay positive with it when you have negative influences around you. Hang in there.

mcgwigan
03-26-2008, 03:46 PM
Thanks for all your reassurances...unfortunately DH is not supportive of breastfeeding. Last night when DS was fussy he was going to make a bottle of formula because he was "starving". I told him to just give him to me & nursed him. DH has commented many times that he wished I would stop breastfeeding because it takes too much energy out of me. :( I did explain to MIL that as long as he has enough diapers, he's eating enough.

Acne I thought that Wyatt had this now & just tonight stripped him down to his onsie to make sure it was just on his face/neck. Maybe it is heat rash...he does like to sleep on my chest a lot & I may have over dressed him a bit today too.

fussy time he's fussy in the evenings and I think that it helps to give him a bath. However, he gets quite mad when I take him out of the bath & goes to sleep quickly, probably from all that fussing! Oh, and Brady mine doesn't really like his pacifier either. He'll take it in the car if I have someone back there w/him to keep putting it back in his mouth. He rarely takes it at other times & I wish he would. Oh well, he won't be one of those kids talking with it in his mouth I guess.

Have to run...bath time!!

I don't have time for many replies since Julia just fell asleep and I want to catch some sleep while she is sleeping. I will get better with shout outs.

EliezrahThe next time I am in NJ for a few days I will definitely try to arrange a get together. About mother's day-I am determined that it will not be about my MIL.

Mcgwigan I would have gone crazy of my mil did something like that. You have much more restraint than me!

PacifiersI think someone mentioned that there baby was not taking a pacifier. Julia rarely takes one. Once in a blue moon in a car she will take one-but that's it. And the only one is the NUK-I bought and tried them all-seriously-Mam, Avent, and Soothie.

Okay, off to sleep!

sparkle&shine ~ glad you and Ethan are ok after the fall, that must have been so scary!

la_Mer ~ thank you for the coupons. Leo's sleep patterns will change soon.

histulip05 ~ I love Katherine's picture, she is a cutie!

raven077 ~ I thought I had a butterchubs at 12 lbs. It's great to know they are growing though!

mcgwigan ~ what is it with ILS? My MIL isn't too bad but she call about stupid crap, like telling me she found the formula cheaper and such and such place. That's nice and all but we don't have that store where we live. DH's Aunt was a pain this past weekend, she wanted to know why we don't wipe Addison after she urinates(her words, nto mine) I said because the hospital told us not to because her urine is sterile when it comes out.

Kristi ~ thanks for starting the new thread, once I get back to work I can do updates more often. I'm happy to have a few minutes now to type with two hands!

Your questions:
1. Kassidy is getting the acne. I know it's normal for right after birth, but is it okay that it's set in at 6 weeks? I keep telling myself it's normal, but I expected it to show up before now. I had thought it might have been a reaction to fabric softener in our clothes, but I don't think it is.
It's normal. Addison got the baby acne and cradle cap later and the acne has lessened but we're still dealing with cradle cap.

I'd let her sleep, she must need it. Addison does the same thing. Last night she slept for over 2 hours before her bedtime and she managed to go back to sleep an hour and half later and slept through the night.

I've been trying to get on all day but my internet was so slow and not responding, can't wait to get rid of cable internet and get fiber optic.

mcgwigan

Delsol I don't wipe him after just urine either. Yea, I wish people wouldn't try to be so helpful - unless we ask of course!

sleeping Wyatt will sleep for a few hours in the evening & it doesn't seem to disturb the night time sleep. He's even slept basically all day recently, I figure he needs it & let him.

I gave Wy a bath last night and then just let him hang out in a onsies & his rash has started to look better, so I think what I thought was acns was heat rash after all!

Have to run, am meeting some of my co-workers for lunch & want to be able to get some errands done while I'm in town! Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi! I am just adding my stats for the new thread! I will be back later.

Just wanted to say- Mcgwigan, your MIL sounds like my mother. My mother had 4 formula fed children, and just doesn't understand the breastfed baby. She eventually got over it, but I still do have to ignore her at times. :rolleyes:

I just have to say that I have the MIL from hell, but I don't even want to get started. Basically she called me "one of those mothers" for breastfeeding, and I was "not doing the best for my child" back when I breastfed DS and then had the -- OMG -- "audacity" to put him in daycare at 7 weeks (where he totally thrived, BTW, and was the best decision I ever made). I also should have hired someone to feed him formula at night so I could sleep. I've just avoided her with DD so haven't yet gotten an earful, but I'm sure it's coming.
I've been really bad about taking pictures so I'll take some to post soon!
Hope all is well with everyone, and I'll try to be back more often.

Ugh. I'm with you guys in the horrible sleep camp this morning. I put her down at 11 and she was up 3 times before 2 am. After that I let DH take her because she kept crying and I couldn't get her to sleep. I think he finally came to bed at 4. I thought this sleep thing was getting better, but maybe I spoke too soon.

I HATE GROWTH SPURTS!!!

'Nuff said........

During a growth spurt, breastfed babies nurse more often than usual (sometimes as often as every hour) and often act fussier than usual.

Experts agree that a sudden jump in appetite is the most telling sign of a growth spurt. "Out of the blue, a baby who was nursing at regular intervals wants to spend the entire day at your breast," says Katy Lebbing, a lactation consultant with La Leche League International.

7-10:30 last night then 2:30-4:30 in the morning. The starting at 8 am, every freaking hour on the hour exactly! Hes' been on my boob for 45 mins now and doesn't seem done!! My nipples are soooooo sore and I can't get anything done today, including do anything for Jackie & Seth!

Pacifiers: Kassidy doesn't really take a pacifier either. Though, the week my mom worked hard at giving her the pacifier and she did take it sometimes, it killed her latch. I spent the next week with sore nipples and trying to fix her latch. I took the paci away. Though, we've only tried the soothies pacis because it's what the hospital had. Does anyone else have problems with a paci and the baby's latch? Should I just try several different kinds until I find one that doesn't mess her up or should I just stay away from them?

We went to my school yesterday for a couple of hours and everyone fussed over her. She was very good while we were there and the kids in my class were really good. It was funny how some of my kids really took to her and wanted to love on her and some of the kids didn't want to get near her. The visit went well though except I was asked a million times when I'm coming back! That got annoying. Oh, and one of the instructional aides asked me when I was coming back and said it needs to be sooner rather than later and went on to tell me that many of my parents are complaining and unhappy. I as politely as I could told her that I had picked a perfectly capable sub and the principal insisted on someone else, so if they had problems they needed to speak to the principal...and I'd be back when I was ready. I'm SO not looking forward to going back!

Nursing AGAIN! ARGH!!

Pacifiers: Though, we've only tried the soothies pacis because it's what the hospital had. Does anyone else have problems with a paci and the baby's latch? Should I just try several different kinds until I find one that doesn't mess her up or should I just stay away from them?

I would try the NUK pacifiers as they supposedly support breastfeeding although I have no personal experience as to whether they effect latch.

As I said-Julia really doesn't take a pacifier, but when she does we use the NUK brand since it is the only one she will take.

I guess maybe I should just go buy several different kinds and see what happens!

I'm in the poor sleep camp myself. At 3am when he woke up for the third time, I decided that I would get more sleep if I slept with him on the couch. Of course, we got to the couch in time for his fussiness to start & he was up with gas until 5!! Woke up at 6:30, nursed a little & went back to sleep, then the freakin phone rang at 7!! Up for the day!

He was fussy all morning, so no more than a 20 min nap. I had him just about asleep @ 11 when MIL showed up. DH had suggested she come so she could take care of the baby & I could sleep some. Anyway, I told her that he'd had gas all morning, been awake all morning and he was just about asleep, but told her she could hold him, but be really gentle so he can get to sleep. She basically tossed him around which aggitated him & mad him mad, & of course I got the "is he hungry?" nope, I had just fed him. I finally did get him to sleep & told her I would lay down myself & told her there was a bottle in the fridge for him if he wanted it. I came out an hour later to her giving him the bottle & she said that he didn't take a bottle well. I told her he took it just fine for me & DH & he probably wasn't hungry. Grrr,

When I told DH all that he gave me permission to tell her like it is. Yay, next time.

I've been thinkinh DS is going through a growth spurt for at least the past week...I'm not even trying to figure that out any more!

paci We've used soothie, but he doesn't take it much. I have not really had any latch issues & think I may try acouple other paci's to see if he'll take them.

have to run, bath time for mr. crank here!

Pacifier- Declan loves his pacifier and I think it has actually improved his latch, which was really bad in the beginning. We're using the Nuk pacifiers, which our pediatrician recommended.

Acne- He has this BAD. It's been about two weeks now, and it's really terrible-- all over his face and chest. I know it just passes, but it's so hard to see his sweet little face all broken out. When D. had his 4-week pediatrican appointment earlier this week, the dr. said that his acne was actually being aggravated by extremely dry skin (it's been very warm/dry here lately) and that I should put lotion all over him a couple times a day. That's been helping with his face a bit. Normally you're just supposed to leave the acne alone, though. I can't wait for it to go away.

Sleeping- We started doing a bedtime routine on the advice of the ped. Around 7pm we give him a bath, swaddle him, read him a story (which he loves!) and put him in the Pack n Play to sleep. Having a routine helps a bit, definitely. He would NOT sleep anywhere but his bouncy chair before, and we always had trouble getting him to sleep at night. He's not sleeping longer periods yet (still up every 2-3 hours), but he IS sleeping and will sleep at least some of the night in the Pack n Play.

Fussiness- Declan is still very fussy and screams a lot. We switched to Gripe Water (instead of Mylicon) and I think that's working better. We've also been religiously doing the 5 S's (Happiest Baby on the Block) and they help a lot, too. We're anxiously awaiting the post-6 week period, when fussiness is supposed to decrease (please!).

Here are Declan's current stats:

5 weeks (as of yesterday)
9 lbs, 1 oz (birth weight: 8 lbs)
21.3 inches (birth: 19 inches)

When I told DH all that he gave me permission to tell her like it is. Yay, next time. Good to hear, then can we all tell her off too?! LOL

So last night Scott was in charge and I got to sleep! Yippeee (I went to bed at 8:30). Anyway, I nursed him at 7:20 then Scott said he woke at 10:30 and took 7 ozs and then slept till 2:30 when he took 6 ozs. After that he didn't get up till 8:15 to nurse!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We got an almost 6 hour stretch!!! Now let's see him do that for his first stretch of the night and not the second so I can sleep longer! LOL Luckily I was able to pump 7 ozs from the right boob when I woke up since he'll obviously need that much when Scott takes him tonight as well. I'll pump several more times today since I don't want to have just enough milk for him, but I want a frozen stash.

Elie yay for the long sleep stretch! And wow, 7oz from one boob-you go! I've been pumping whiile I nurse but am really only getting about 3 oz when I do that.

Wy did not nurse for long at all when he woke up last night until when he woke at 5:30. He went back to sleep easily each time too, however he had crap sleep during the day so maybe that's why.

I've also been trying to do a bedtime routine starting @ 7 with a bath. Sometimes I skip it if we're too tired.

Well, remember I got that much after waking up from 9 1/2 hours of sleeping and not nursing at all! My boobs were HUGE! They still feel full even after pumping and feeding him so I might go pump again.

Hi ladies -

It seems we are all having sleep issues. We had two great nights and then last night was rough for me. We are fairly lucky in comparison except that we are on no formal schedule. Wednesday night we put him down at 11 and he didn't wake up until 5:30. He went 7 hours without eating (he ate at 10pm) and 6.5 hours of sleep and I was shocked. I woke up at 5am and got nervous that something was wrong. DH convinced me not to check. I pumped just because I was completely engorged and laid back down at 5:30. Of course 5:37 he woke up! The night after he woke up at 4am and then last night i got him down at 1am finally and he woke up again at 3. DH volunteered to feed him and get him to sleep so i can rest as I took the 11-1am feeding.

We are very lucky, Ollie really only gets up 1 time in the middle of the night and then again around 8 or 9am but we put him down around 11pm. He usually is fussy between 5-8:30 but he usually sleeps between 8-11 depending on when he's fed in that time. I've also been giving him about an extra ounce or so at the 11pm feeding and sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. I think his size helps in the sleeping because he is such a big baby.

Ollie loves his baths and we are currently doing an every other night bathtime routine. I'm thinking of switching to every night as he really does love them but he doesn't need one every night, he doesn't get dirty! lol

I'm going at 1pm to a Mommy and me group at a local Gymboree. It's pretty pricey but DH really insisted on it so I'm going. I am a little nervous and excited. I get really nervous that he's going to be bad and cry. But i plan on feeding him around 11:30 and he shouldn't be hungry. I hope he has fun.

Sorry so many of you are having sleep issues.

Sashi ~ I went to a free Gymboree class and it seemed good but they are pricey. I couldn't find one on a Saturday, ours was Monday at noon, of course I couldn't continue if I wanted to because I have to go back to work.

pgbg ~ wow your MIL sounds like a really gem!

Kristi ~ we use NUK, it's what the hospital gave us and they only one she'll take. I tried circo from Target and she didn't like it.

Rosebud ~ We're almost on a bed time routine. I would like to read to her but I'm usually holding her and then she's out like a light so I just put her down for the night.

Lisa ~ glad you were able to get some sleep.

Me ~ Addison has been doing well, she still have her fussiness but it's not as bad. I think the Nutramigen is working. Monday, we are visiting my work and then Tuesday, we're visiting my old work so some of my old co-workers can see Addison.

She's been sleeping pretty good and taking good naps. She lets us know when she's tired or hungry.

My mom will be watching Addison while I'm at work. DH will have to watch her on Thursday mornings until my mom can get there, she has a job she has to do on Thursday mornings. I really worry he won't be able to handle it. He gets mad when she's crying and won't stop. He'll also have to watch her until I get home from work because my mom will need to leave before I get home to go to her other job. I'm going to have to tell him, I better not hear her crying when I walk in the door because it will just show me he can't take care of her. And if that's the case, I'm going to have to look into changing my hours, which will suck because I don't have to be at work until 9AM. If I have to change them I'll have to go in at 8AM and lord knows what time I'll have to leave because I know traffic is pretty bad around that time. Keep your fingers crossed my DH can handle her.

Delsol- I can't believe that some of us are going back to work already! I bet that your DH just needs to get used to being on his own with your DD- it must be nerve wrecking for him. You are very lucky that your MIL will watch DD. We are starting to think about DC for when my DH finishes grad school, and good ones seem few and far between.

Sashi- Have fun at your Gymboree class! I too am actually meeting a couple of moms for the first time on Sunday for a playdate. I feel weird about it, but I bet everyone does the first time!

Elie- yeah for sleep! 7 oz is fantastic, I think my high was 6 oz from righty! You reminded me that I should pump so that I am making a little more for DS. Need to start filling that freezer!

mcgwigan- Have fun telling her off! Feeding issues were and are the most sensitive parenting issue for me. I know exactly how you feel- you don't even need to explain yourself to her. She just needs to back off. You are his mom, and you know him best!

pgbg- I think it's way easier to keep up at work as well! ;)

sleep- We are having major sleep issues here. DS#2 I can handle. He wakes up every two hours and in the night. He went down last night at 11, was up four times, and was up at 8. DS#1, on the other hand, was screaming until 11, wouldn't fall asleep, fell off our bed in the middle of the night, and woke up twice. We have to get everyone on longer sleep patterns than this before I go back to work!

acne- We have small bits of baby acne, and have had one outbreak of cradle cap. For those of you dealing with cradle cap, the best stuff to use is Aquaphor. Put some ointment on at night, and bathe them in the morning. The scales should come right off with a light wipe of the washcloth. The ointment will make it look worse for a day before it looks better (it gets red, and looks irritated), but it really works!

fussiness- This is getting better for us. He used to be much worse in the evenings, but I think that his digestion is getting better. We also have not had too much fussiness in the middle of the night over the past week- crossing my fingers!

Sashi, don't worry about the Gymboree class. I took both Jackie & Seth to Gymboree as babies. Not only do a lot of them cry, but you can sit and feed them during class if need be.

LRL, I also want to fill my freezer but I never seem to be able to find the time to pump more than what he gets that day in a bottle.

Dana, I'm sure it'll work out.

I am so glad we have been talking about our sleep issues, thanks to you guys we had a great night! We tried a bit of a going to sleep routine last night and it worked really well. Around 6:30 I read to Leo for a bit (from the The New Yorker so mommy was entertained as well ;)), then I put in in his pajamas and rocked him to sleep. He went down like a dream. He woke up at 12:30 and DH gave him a bottle and he didn't wake up again until 4:30. I slept from 10 until 4:30! Unfortunately after getting "so much" sleep I had a hard time going back to sleep myself. I feel amazing today. Tonight I think we will try adding a bath to the routine.

pacifiers We have been using the Soothie brand and Leo loves them. I have been noticing that his has been a little lazy with his latch lately and I'm wondering if the pacifier is part of the problem. He tends to kind of play with it and he's been doing some of the same things with my nipple. We have some of the NUK brand that I might try to see if it helps.

Does anyone have the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders mobile? I bought one and when I put it together the lights and music worked but the mobile doesn't turn. And of course now I can't find the receipt. Is there something I might be missing to make it turn? I want to try to fix it so I don't have to try to return it without a receipt.

pookie It must have been hard to be asked so many time when you are coming back. Sounds like your kids really love you and you are a great teacher!

mcgwigan It's amazing that your MIL still didn't get it after he didn't take the bottle. I'm glad your DH is supporting you being honest with her. I have to say I am a bit surprised that your DH isn't supportive of breastfeeding when he wanted a natural childbirth. Good for you for sticking up for what you want.

Lisa Yay for a good night of sleep!

sashi It's true infants don't really get "dirty". We do more baths than Leo really needs but since he enjoys it, it ends up being something fun we can do with him. I hope you enjoy the gymboree class.

rosebud Having a bedtime routine helped us transition from sleeping in the swing to sleeping in the crib. I'm glad it worked for you! I hope he is less fussy after 6 weeks for you.

delsol I'm glad you got the coupons. I hope it works out with your DH watching Addison. It might take him a few weeks but I'm sure they will learn a routine together.

Ok gotta run....

HollyMN, Love, Love, Love that picture of your kiddos! It's precious!

PookiePrincess, I completely understand about not wanting to go back to work. I was technically supposed to go back to work on the 25th of February, but ended up asking for another week because I couldn't make myself go. I've been back to work for almost a month now...it's gone fast!

mcgwigan, sorry about your MIL. I have a MIL that sounds alot like her. One in fact, that told me that breastfeeding was gross, and that she shouldn't have to handle my breastmilk. :rolleyes: Eh, needless to say my DH was less than thrilled, and said that Cole won't be going there to stay too often anymore.

Rosebud, you've got a growin' boy! ;)

Eliezrah, yay for your 6 hour stretch! Isn't it so exciting when they sleep that well? It means better sleep for all of us!

Dana, Good luck with your DH and Addison. I'm sure he'll do wonderfully!

Sleep: Cole is now sleeping from 9:00 PM until 6:00 AM without waking every night! I can't believe it. We've started bathing him every night, then I do a little infant massaging, and he takes a 4 oz bottle, and is out for the count. I think we've developed a great routine....FINALLY!

Pacifiers: We've been using the soothie pacifier from the hospital. Cole won't take anything else. I've purchased some more, because I was afraid of losing the one furnished by the hospital. Every other kind we try, he spits out. :(

Oh, and I guess I'd better join this thread, huh?

mcgwiganmy mil was here yesterday and she held Julia up over her head and moved her back and forth-I made DH tell her she was not to do that. I really wanted to scream at her since I thought it was so idiotic-I just feel she's too young for that.

RosebudWe started a bedtime routine-Can't say it's really helped her go to sleep right away, but definitely gets her to calm down.

EliezrahYou're so lucky Aaron takes a bottle-Julia hates the bottle and refuses them.

Sashi I was going to say the same thing Eliezrah said-at most baby classes it's totally fine if the babies cry or need to eat, be changed whatever-hope you had fun.

DelSol I am sure it will be fine with your DH.

LRLGlad the baby's fussiness is getting better-unfortunately Julia's seems to be getting worse at night.

la merYay for the successful sleep routine!

JayJay You are so lucky with Cole's sleep-that's great!

ShotsTomorrow Julia has her two months visit and will get some shots. We're splitting them up so it won't be that many-but I am so anxious about it. Not about autism, just that she'll cry and then later be uncomfortable. I hate it when she cries about anything. My mom is coming with me since I know I can't handle it alone.

TodayWe're meeting our good friends for brunch with Julia today. I had not written about this here, but they recently lost their twins at 25 weeks pregnant.DH and I have been so sick over this. While we have always been thankful for Julia it has made us even more thankful.
Anyway, my friend loves being around Julia and she wanted to meet for brunch. I've been with her since it's happened with and without Julia, but it's the first time we are seeing her husband since it's happened.

jbb I'm just curious how you're splitting up shots. I want to have them split up also, and am wondering if it's OK to just have them given 1 at a time, at least a week apart. I am nervous about autism. DS had his Hep B shot at his 1 month wbv and screamd like all get out for about 10 seconds. I nursed him while he got the shot too!:(

I know that many of us breastfeed, but is it normal that DS is still just eating 2-3 oz at a time & still about every 2 hours? I was hoping that he would eat more at a time and go down to fewer feedings a day by now. Anyone know how I can help this along??

HollyMN

mcgwigan - Rachel only takes about an oz at a time, but I'm usually not away from her long. Caleb REFUSED the bottle until I had been back to work a few months (big nightmare), so I'm clueless about how babies are supposed to take a bottle at this age. DH complains that with the stage 1 nipple it is so slow that it takes forever and she falls asleep, but with the stage 2 it flows so fast that she makes a mess and gets upset. What nipples do you guys use. I only pump 1-3 bottles/week so she's not that used to it. Maybe I should try the breastfeeding threads, they were awesome when I had Caleb, but I haven't been back.

JBB, Seth hated the bottle as well. I think we waited too long to introduce it to him. This time we gave Aaron a bottle when he was about 2 weeks old. I think it made a difference. How did it go meeting your friends? A friend of mine had to terminate her PG at 21 weeks (she was due a few days after me) and we saw them a few weeks ago for the first time since we were in our 1st trimesters. It broke our hearts.

Sashi

Holly - I am using Nuk bottles by Gerber as they have an orthodontic nipple and support proper latch for breastfeeding. We literally just tried The medium flow nipples last night and it was still just too fast for DS. So we are syill on slow flow even though it takes a long time to finish a bottle.

Mcgwigan - Since I am EP'ing DS gets a 5.25oz bottle every 3-5 hours depending on when he is hungry. I know that seems like a lot and I've heard lots of criticism about feeding him a lot but we are comfortable with it and so is our ped. He takes the whole thing and doesen't spit up. He is a big boy too at around 13-14 lbs (7.5 weeks). Although i am still waiting on more sleep like most of you!!!!!!

JayJay - Cole is adorable and YAY!!!! for sleeping through the night.

Gymboree was great. It wasn't as expensive as I thought but still expensive. $68 for 4 classes. Ollie really had a nice time until the end when he was just tired and overstimulated I believe. He is starting to really like tummy time. Our class was unfortunately small, only us and one other couple with their daughter. Their daughter was 5 weeks older than ollie and about half his size, too funny. DH joined us and we had a good time, we'll go back every Saturday for at least the month we paid for. I think he'll get the same type of stimulation at daycare after that so I don't think i will invest in that.

McgwiganRight now we're doing our monthly visits so I think the vaccination schedule will just be prolonged. Julia had two shots today.

HollyMNJulia hates the bottle-not sure what it's about since she did take a bottle with no problem her first two weeks of life. I wish I had some suggestions for you. I think I actually have to go to the BF thread and ask for advice on giving a bf baby a bottle.

EliezrahJulia actually took a bottle the first two weeks of life when I had all those breastfeeding issues. However, as soon as she was bf we stopped giving her the bottle. And now she hates it!
I am sorry for your friend's loss.

How the Brunch WentIt went okay. My friend's DH only wanted to hold Julia. I had no problem with it-however Julia was sleeping. All through the meal he kept asking if she was up. I felt terrible. On one hand I thought maybe I should just give him the baby to hold. However, I knew what would happen is she would wake and want to eat and then I would need to bf and eat-which I can do, but don't love to do. She did finally wake up and he got to hold her. However she woke up during a big commotion. A waiter literally dropped a plate of food down my friends back so we all had to get up since it was a round booth. I felt awful for my friend. She was a good sport about it.

A Funny IncidentAfter we paid the check I knew Julia needed to eat before we headed out-she was starting to cry. It was really busy so we didn't want to hold the table up so I headed to the front where there were some couches. It was a little crowded with a party waiting for a table-a mom and dad with an infant and their friends. I went to the area and tried to see if there was any room. The mom asked nicely what I needed. And I explained I needed a seat to feed the baby. She turns to her husband and says-get up! He immediately jumped up and I thanked him. They both said no thanks necessary-they said they understood needing to feed a baby.

The pediatrician visit went well. Julia is now 9 pounds and 14 ounces and 22 inches in length!

It's been weeks since I have posted in here ... so, hi everyone! I've been following. Sounds like everyone is doing well and some babies are sleeping awesome! Hopefully that's my baby soon!

Things here are good, just been hectic. We have been searching for a new house and that has taken up a ton of time. We made an offer on a house today so hopefully things will slow down a little bit for us. Of course, I can see a week or two of negotiations so we'll see.

Tripp is doing well. He's eating well and has a good night of sleep (5 hr stretches) every few nights. The rest of the nights we are 2 to 3 hours between feedings. Tripp was eating nearly every hour the last two days, so I think he must have hit a growth spurt. We didn't have a 1 month WBV so I don't have any new stats to post. Today he was up the entire day with just a morning nap. That was crazy. He's a sleeper, so that is very unusual for him.

Tomorrow is my 6 week PP appointment (at 5 weeks). I'm hoping to get the a-ok to start running again. I'm sure I will. I've lost all my pregnancy weight plus 3 lbs, but that is still about 15 lbs more than I was when I got married. I'd like to lose that weight!

Last night we went out for dinner and drinks with several friends. It was our friends 30th and her hubby got a limo. My first night out in non-maternity fashionable clothes ... and first night out drinking like I was in college in like 3 years (remember, I have a 19 month old, too ... it's like I have been pregnant for 3 years LOL). We had a great time, but DH paid for it today. I actually took it easy. Not so fun to be hungover these days, you know?

I'll be back more regularly. Thanks, Kristi for starting the new thread!

HollyMN I introduced a bottle at 2 weeks, once we had breastfeeding down. I use the stage 1 slow flow nipples and they are almost too fast (which is weird, because he really guzzles when he breastfeeds!). I use the Dr. Brown's bottles....maybe you just need to try a few different ones until you find one she likes? Oh, Wyatt really only gets a bottle about once a week - still doesn't like the paci though!

La_Mer Yes, it totally bewildered me that DH wasn't supportive of BF. Last night he was asking me how long I plan on BFing and I told him I'd like to aim for at least 6 months, but we'll see how it goes when I go back to work. He thinks I should stop at 12 weeks, when I go back to work because ( are you ready?)...he doesn't want my BBs to get stretched out and sag. I told him that that damage comes from pregnancy, not BF. So now I know where his motive lays. :rolleyes: Not like I had much of any, anyways - I was barely an A cup before I was preg & now am a B cup - which I would like much better if they didn't leak all the time!!:)

Well, have to run, the little guy is complaining!

mcgwigan: Kassidy will take up to 4 ounces in a bottle, but when she nurses she usually won't nurse for 10 minutes and only on one side. We still only do bottles every other day or so.

Sashi: That's great that the Gymboree class was so fun and that he loves tummy time. Kassidy will tolerate it for a few minutes and then fusses or turns her head to the side and falls asleep.

Dana: That's great that your mom can watch Addison. I'm sure your DH will be fine. I was a little nervous about leaving Kassidy with DH one day a week when I go back to work (all day seems so long and he doesn't usually handle her for that long a stretch of time) but I know it will be fine. If nothing else he'll realize how hard it actually is!

la_Mer: I'm glad everyone started talking about bedtime routines too! We tried it last night and it went really well. Hopefully it's still working for you!

JayJay: That is some awesome sleep...good for you and Cole! I'm glad it's gone fast for you going back to work. I hope the time flies when I have to go back.

Holly: I'm using Avent bottles and a level 1 nipple. It still sometimes seems fast for her. I tried the Dr. Brown's bottles but I thought the nipple was too small. I like the nipples on the Avent bottles because they are wide and she takes them with a latch similar to when I breastfeed her.

JBB: If you want to try to give her a bottle, keep trying every day or two. My ped said to try when she was a couple of weeks old and keep giving her one every few days so she doesn't forget how to drink out of one.

Tammie: Good luck with the house hunting! As soon as my parents buy a house in California, we'll be closing on their house here. I'll be so ready for that to be over! That's so funny, I just posted in my LJ yesterday that I'd like to start running again, but I don't know if I have the motivation right now. I can't even get motivated enough to put the baby in the stroller and walk down the street to the mailbox! Sounds like you had fun out with your friends!

I had my PP check up yesterday. She said everything healed great, even though it doesn't feel like it. My episiotomy still hurts (hurts to stand for a long time or sit on a hard chair) which I didn't expect still. She still seemed worried about my blood levels so they drew blood again. She gave me two more weeks of maternity leave (yay!). I'm so glad, now I don't have to go back until the end of this month and I only have to go back for 5 1/2 weeks until school is out! YAY!

We bought a few types of pacis the other day and Kassidy won't take any of them. Maybe she's just not a paci type baby. Everytime I try to give her one she spits it out with a face that says, "WTF is this??"

I seem to be full of questions lately, but what are y'all doing about birth control?? My doctor and I talked a bit and I don't want to go back on the pill, but I'm not sure about an IUD. I charted for a year before we had the baby and I really like charting, I just don't know how effective it will be with unpredictable sleep and the whole breastfeeding thing. We're going to stick to condoms for now (like we're going to be having sex much!) and when I go back to the doctor in 3 months I'll hopefully have made a decision about the IUD.

Is anyone's baby dealing with acid reflux?

Declan has been miserable the last couple days-- screaming, not sleeping, spitting up a ton-- and the pediatrician told me over the phone he's pretty sure it's acid reflux. I'm taking Declan in to see him today and I'm guessing they'll give him some medication. Anyone have experience with this and any suggestions, whether for preferred medications or other tips to relieve the reflux?

TIA!

I know that many of us breastfeed, but is it normal that DS is still just eating 2-3 oz at a time & still about every 2 hours? I was hoping that he would eat more at a time and go down to fewer feedings a day by now. Anyone know how I can help this along??

Declan is still on this schedule as well. He'll be 6 weeks on Thursday. I was hoping he'd be eating less frequently by now, but he still definitely wants to eat every 2-3 hours.

I've lost all my pregnancy weight plus 3 lbs, but that is still about 15 lbs more than I was when I got married. I'd like to lose that weight!

:eek: REALLY?! I am insanely jealous.

I have lost exactly 11 pounds in the last six weeks. Considering that my baby weighed 8 pounds, that's really nothing. Breastfeeding and not eating much due to exhaustion haven't done anything for me, apparently. I still need to lose 30 pounds to get back to my prepregnancy weight and am freaking out. I thought some of it would go away on its own.

I seem to be full of questions lately, but [B]what are y'all doing about birth control??

I'm seeing my OB on Thursday and will be discussing this with him then. I was thinking I'd just go back on the pill, but since I haven't lost any baby weight I'm concerned the pill might make it harder. Also, is there any reason why I shouldn't take the pill and breastfeed? Do those hormones get passed onto the baby in any way?

JayJay Cole is a cutie! That is wonderful that he is sleeping through the night!

JBB I hope your friend at least got a free lunch. It is sweet that her DH was so interested in Julia. I feel like Leo always knows when the most inconvenient time to wake up is, like as soon as I sit down to eat, or just after we get in the car to head home. I'm glad you were able to find a place to feed her.

mcgwigan Oh boy, I can't believe your DH said that! Men can be such little boys sometimes :p.

tammie Leo has a similar sleep pattern, sometimes 5 hours but more often 2-3. The 2-3 hours after a night or two of five hour stretchs is so rough! Congrats on finding a house, I know how stressful that can be. I hope the negotiations go smoothly. You went out? with other adults? and drank? Oooh I am so jealous :p. Half a beer and I about pass out!

Pookie Our sleep routine works well for getting him to sleep...we are still working on keeping him asleep.

Birth Control Abstinence :p. J/K (sort of). We are going to go with condoms for now. I don't want to go back on the pill. I would be interested in the IUD but I've heard that its a better option if it's going to be a few years before you TTC again. We are probably going to try in 1-2 years.

For the last few days we have been having poop issues. He hasn't been going as often and when he does it's more runny/sticky and not seedy and always green. He has also been very gassy. I'm willing to change my diet but i'm not sure if it's something i'm eating.

ok he needs attention..

LaMer - I was told green poop in a breastfed baby indicates either an allergy to something your eating (usually milk/dairy) OR foremilk/hindmilk issues (i.e. - baby is getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk). I hear you on the sleep, it's a bit unpredictable for us as well although at night he usually only gets up 1 time in the middle of the night and then again around 7 or 8.

Pookie - Don't worry about the pacifier issue. My friends twins did the same thing. The best way to tell when Ollie is hungry is if he makes that face or spits out the paci because he gets upset that no milk is coming out.

BC - My doc said I can't do any type of pills because of the breastfeeding, which i did not know about. Although DH isn't so happy about it, we are just going the condom route for now as it worked for us before.

I'm so pleased with my weight, I've dropped all the baby weight and more for a total of 48 pounds. The baby weight was about 35 of that and i'm back down to where i was when i got married in January 2007. I would still like to drop a lot more and I really think it had to do with the PPD and breastfeeding.

I always thought Addison had it and this weekend was horrible. I made an appointment for her yesterday and we were given Zantac, I can't wait until it kicks in.

Sorry I haven't been around. Just got our internet connection back. Now I'm headed out to see some old co-workers, I'll try to get back tonight. We had a rough night last night. She was up a lot.

Delsol - I thought when I suggested Addison had reflux you said no, she only had one sign and your dr. didn't think she had it? In a way, I hope she does have it just so you know what the fussiness is about and you can cure it for her. You know what I mean?

Rosebud - My DD had reflux bad, still has it. She's been on Zantac since she was about 2 months old. It's not a pretty picture when we try and take her off it.

My DS is on Zantac now as well. Doesn't seem to help him as much as it helped DD, so we are not trying Prevacid. It's supposed to be a little stronger than Zantac. Both medicines don't work for every child, so sometimes you have try both. If that doesn't work, not sure what we'll do. Maybe it will mean he doesn't have reflux and his grunting when we lay him down is related to something else. We'll see! Hope we can cure it, because I hate feeling like he's in pain.

Mylanta - Did you guys know you can give it to babies? My dr. told me to give it to DS if he was super fussy and I thought it was from gas. It has helped a little during fussy/gassy times, but not like I had hoped. I did tell a friend of mine who said she was having the same problem, and she said it was like a miracle drug and her baby is all better now. Good for her!

Sashi - Most women who are breastfeeding either take the Mini-pill or get an IUD. I don't know why you can't take a pill ... the mini-pill is widely prescribed for BFing women.

Hormonal BC: You can't take anything estrogen based while breastfeeding.
Green poop: Rachel has this now too. When Caleb had it I thought it was due to the Target brand prenatal I was taking, but that's not the case this time. I can look it up, but I wasn't sweating it since Caleb had greenish poop and he was fat and healthy with no allergies.
Spacing out poops: This is normal and Rachel is starting to do this now too. Sometime after the first several weeks when you're counting diapers, breastfed babies can continue to poop several times a day or as infrequently as once a week or so in a huge blowout. Caleb used to ruin an outfit once a week back then and now Rachel is starting to do the same. Some friends thought it would be nice if their babies poop less often, but I'd prefer the more frequent but containable poops.
Weight: I've lost less than 30 out of 45 pounds in almost 8 weeks. I tell myself that losing weight slowly means my skin has a chance to get more firm, but who knows, it's probably luck whether your skin stays taut and doesn't sag.

TGoodyGood to see you. Sounds like things are going well.

PookiePrincessI'm going to start really trying with the bottle. Oh and for the most part with Pacis Julia thinks it's some sort of game. Like I put it in and out of her mouth-only 3 times has she actually used one!

RosebudI am sorry you are dealing with this-Julia has a little acid reflux, but the dr did not feel it warrented meds.

BirthControlAs much as it is a pain I think we'll use condoms. I was going to do the mini pill, but the lc at my bf support group told me that it can lower your milk supply. My milk supply is not great so I am certainly not going to take anything that could possibly decrease it.

Shape Up With BabyWe had our first class today. It was really cute and fun. First we gave the babies a little work out-rotating arms, legs, turning them over. And then the moms worked out using the babies within the workout whether it was holding them or sometimes bending over to kiss them.

Infant Baby MassageWe have our first class tomorrow. I am really looking forward to this. Since I have had two friends with older babies rave about the class. And I have done my own massage invention with Julia at night and she really likes it.

Tammie ~ I always had a feeling she had it but the doctor kept saying no she didn't. She had almost all the signs except she was gaining weight and not throwing up (now she is throwing up). We had a bad weekend with her, she cried all day on Saturday and cried with every bottle. I was in tears because I knew she was hurting. I did some more research and found more signs of reflux. Yes I do know what you mean and I am hoping this is what she has.

Birth Control ~ I'm on the pill. Hmmm, DTD what is that?? :p It's been so long I forget!

Mylanta ~ didn't know that. Now that she's on Zantac, hopefully it will help her.

DD doesn't have bad breath, Refusing food or eating only small amounts, or Poor sleep habits with frequent waking (although she was up at 11:30PM for 45 minutes then back up at 2:30AM until 4AM this morning, just in time for me to go back to work).

I'll be back for some more shout outs, need to make dinner.

DelSol Ugh...sorry you lost your nice sleep schedule...maybe it was a fluke & you'll get it back.

BirthControl I think we're skipping it. We never used birth control ever since we met and it took 5 IUIs to get pregnant due to sperm issues. We're pretty confidant that we won't be having an oops...but I'll probably insist on condems during Ovulation, just in case!

Green Poop He had this once, a long time ago. He's basically only pooping at night now, so lucky me, I usually change his diaper everytime I get up with him. Last night I changed his diaper, nursed, then he promptly filled up his diaper ( I swear he would have been smiling too, if I had the lights on!). I leave the lights on really dim in his room all night so I'm not having to turn them on each time.

Weight I am horrible about weighing myself, so am sort of clueless in this area. I am sure I haven't lost it all because I still can't fit into my re-preg pants and have bought myself a pair of "fat jeans" until I can! I'm sure it'll take me a while!

tgoody I'll have to remember about Mylanta. DS had a horrible gassy episode on Sunday...the only other time he's screamed like that is when he got a shot!

Last night we had a pretty good night - he went to sleep at 7:30 (I skipped our whole routine - we were tired!). Woke at 8:45 and nursed, then didn't wake til 12:00. I'm good if I get a whole 3 hour chunk of sleep like that! Then he woke at 3 then at 4:45 due to a poop. I usually will take him on the couch with me at that waking, but I put him back in his crib & crawled back into bed until 6:45. I feel really rested!! I do wish that he would go 3 hours between feedings during the day. I fed him at 7 and now at 9:15 he's nursing again. It's just hard to get anything done!

The temps are finally warming up here & I took Wyatt outside for a walk in town yesterday. We'll go again today even though it will only be 38...it's supposed to be sunny, so should be warm enough. I can't wait for T shirt weather though!

la_Mer: I don't know about Leo's green poop, but Kassidy has been spacing her poops out more. Before it seemed like she was always pooping, but now they have really slacked off. I've read it's normal.

Dana: I hope Addison goes back to her nice sleep schedule, especially since you're back to work!

mcgwigan: I forgot to post before that it sucks that your DH and MIL aren't supportive of BFing, so if you need encouragement, we'll give it to you! I think it's crazy that your DH's ulterior motive about you BFing is your boobs...doesn't he know boobs are for feeding babies?! You guys should move south...I was wearing shorts and a tank top yesterday. Cute pic from Easter....Wyatt's hair is so cute sticking up!

I got 6 hours of straight sleep last night! I feel fabulous today! I put her down at 11 and she slept until 5...I was shocked! She did what I read about yesterday, she fed a lot yesterday evening (major cluster feeding) and then slept all that time through. I am one of those people that NEEDS sleep, (preferably 8 hours) so if she does this just occasionally, I'm good.

Sadie

Hi guys!

Username: Sadie
Me: Sadie, 32
DH: C, 33
DS/DD: Cannon & Ava
Birthdate: 12/15/2007
Time of birth: 11:12 & 11:14 a.m.
Weight at birth: 3lbs7oz & 2lbs8oz
Length at birth: 16 1/4" & 14 3/4"
Any other children: No

Cannon had surgery last Tuesday to fix his hernia. Turned out he had a really small one on the right side also so he got both fixed at the same time. Everything went well and he came home as scheduled the next day. We were just at the ped. and he is up to 8lbs11.5oz and Ava is 8lbs9oz. Yay!! Still smaller than most, if not all, of the other babies in here, but they have come a looooong way.:) I've missed a lot, but trying to hit topics I've seen:

Weight: I only gained 23 pounds, and had lost 28 at my 6-week checkup. I didn't gain enough to begin with and I'm sure I lost it all so fast b/c of breastfeeding and the horrific stress levels while they were in the NICU. Not sure where I am now.
Birth Control: Taking the mini-pill. AF still hasn't returned yet (twins are almost 4 months). Not sure what I'll do once I quit bf-ing b/c I can't take regular BCP and won't get an IUD b/c a bad experience my friend had freaked me out. I'm pretty sure we're not done having kids, hopefully, though not any time soon!
Reflux: This is one reason we were at the ped today. Ava had some reflux in the NICU, but hasn't been on any meds for a while. Today they prescribed Zantac, so we'll see how it works. Cannon was on Zantac for a while but has been off it for a few weeks and is doing great now. Although he did puke all over the nurse at the ped's, hehe. :o
Eating/sleeping: They are now taking 3 oz. about every 3 hours. Occasionally they'll go for a little bit longer stretch at night, but they are usually right on cue every 3 hours, sometimes more frequently during the day. The good part is that they are awesome night sleepers--they get up, eat, and go right back to sleep. They go to bed with us around 11-12 (although they sometimes fall asleep a couple hours before that, and yes, we're cosleeping although we didn't intend to), then they stay in bed until 9 or 10 in the morning. Still no regular nap schedule yet.

And now they're stirring so that's all I have time for! I am reading along but don't have time for SOs. LOVE seeing the pics, all the babies are adorable.

Thank you to everyone for the info on green poop. I had read the article that Holly posted, but it's so hard to tell sometimes if it's the "ok" type or the "there's a problem" type of green, ya know? I'm happy to report that we are back to yellow, so whatever it was causing it seems to be over.

weight At my 6 week pp visit I had lost 25 of the 30 or so I gained. Even more exciting is that I fit in (some of) my prepregnancy pants. It's nice to have a choice of clothes to wear for a change.

sashi Congrats on losing the baby weight + some. I love the breast feeding diet.

jbb That baby excercise class sounds really fun!

delsol I hope the zantac works for Addison.

mcgwigan I'm glad you got some sleep. Isn't it amazing that three hours of sleep can feel so good? Wyatt is so cute!

pookie woo hoo, 6 hours! I hope she keeps it going for you.

sadie Nice to "see"you. Sounds like the babies are doing really well.

I took Wyatt to the Dr's today for his facial rash - I originally thought it was acne then thought maybe heat rash. Today I was wondering if it was eczema & sure enough, that's what it is. He said it is usually triggered by something & suggested I keep track of what I eat...we're thinking it could be citrus since I have an allergy to it & had a glass of OJ last night.

Anyway, he got weighed today and is 11 lbs 3oz, up from 8 lbs 9oz 3 weeks ago. He was in the 24th percentile for his weight & is now in the 50th percentile. The pedi printed me out copies of his growth chart so I can prove to MIL that he is actually thriving. Yay!

Sorry, not doing SO's right now..it's bath time soon.

Great pictures everyone! McGwigan, you look great.

Sadie- Okay, I have to ask... what happened with your friend and her IUD? I have an appt. to have one put in next week, as we are done having kids and I am sick of the pill... eventually my DH will get snipped.

Sleeping is still all over the place here. Yesterday Drew just had a really bad day, he was basically just crying when he was awake (which was pretty much the whole day!). He has such really bad gas... the gas drops just don't seem to be doing anything for him. Today he really hasn't slept much either, he finally fell asleep in the car on the way to the park around 4:30 and is still asleep 3 hours later.. which leads me to think it's going to be a LONG night. Sigh. His brother was so much better in the sleeping dept. (or maybe I'm just blacking it all out, lol)... I can only hope it gets better!

Alright, I'm going to go see if I can lay on the couch for a minute while he's still in his car seat asleep... you know he'll wake up though as soon as I get comfortable! ;)

She had it put in last year and when she went back in for a checkup about 6 months later, the doctor couldn't find the IUD. Turns out that it perforated her uterus and the whole thing came out. They had to do an u/s and x-rays to locate where in her abdomen it was, then she had to have surgery to have it removed. Her doctor thinks it probably happened right after she got it put in, so on top of all that she was actually without bc all that time that she thought she was covered. I don't know how it happened, I know they are plastic and supposed to be really safe. It was totally a fluke but it just freaked me out. I hope I didn't scare you off of them, b/c I do think it's a great bc option and wish I was willing to get one myself!

Ollie had his 2 month WBV today and he officially is 2 months today.

Stats:

Weight - 13lbs 10oz
Height - 23inches
Head circumfrence - 16"

I don't know what percentile he is in as my ped doesn't seem to tell you that and I always forget to ask. They would tell us if he was abnormal and he is not. She tested his motor reflexes and put him on his belly where he showed off. He held his head up so high and was doing so well, he even rolled over! The sad news is my poor baby had to have 5 shots! 3 in his right leg and 2 in his left leg. We gave him tylenol before and have continued every 4 hours as suggested. He is very fussy and not the same baby but he is getting some MAJOR TLC from mommy and daddy. One of us has held him or laid with him all day since his appointment. He woke up in DH's arms and started to smile really big which I think means he is recognizing our faces more. I think the smiles will start to come more often now.

Oh and also, the last two nights he has gone down around 9-10pm and has gotten up at 4am! That's 6 and 7 hours of sleep two nights in a row! We hope it continues and gets better! But we know that won't be the case tonight so I will be sleeping with him in the guest bedroom tonight while DH sleeps uninterrupted in the master. He needs the one on one time while he is healing from his shots.

Sashi, your percentiles

Growth Percentile Calculator

Based on the data you submitted, your child falls into the following percentiles:

Length = between percentile 25 and 50
Weight = between percentile 75 and 90

I used this calculator here (http://www.babycenter.com/baby-child-growth-percentile-calculator). Now I really want to find out Rachel's, she seems long and heavy to me.

Sorry I've been MIA, it's been a VERY busy week! I took Seth for his 6 month allergy follow up on Tues and instead of outgrowing anything, he is now anaphylactic to kiwi! :(:( Anyway,things are pretty good here, I'm just tired as always! LOL

I've lost about 21 of the 44 lbs I gained and I seem to be at a standstill (of course I'm not eating that great!). I'm not usually one for diets since I'm a picky eater anyway, but I'm considering trying something. When I lost all the weight from Seth (plus an extra 4 lbs that I hadn't lost from Jackie) it was just from cutting out sweets. Anyone have any good diets or know anything about WW or anything else that's safe for BFing?

~~~
You can hate me, alot of my coworkers do because they have 2 year olds that aren't STTN yet! :)
I consider myself very, very lucky!Seth didn't STTN until about 16 months, but it was mostly caused by his allergies. He'd wake up in pain so I'd nurse him back to sleep which got him in the habit of waking up to nurse. Then when I weaned him, he got into the habit of going into our bed. It was not easy to train him.
mcgwigan, wow! At least DH was honest with you about it, but wow! Love the Easter pic! I hope Wyatt doesn't have any allergies!
Kristi, glad you had a good PP check up.
Rosebud, how's his reflux? There is a mini pill that's safe when you are BFing, the main reason not to go on the regular one is that it can dry up your milk. I was on it when I was pumping for Jackie and then when I BFed Seth. I remember the one with Seth was called Micronor.
la_Mer, if you do need to change your diet, I'd cut out all forms of dairy first. Maybe keep a log of what you are eating for a week and when his poop and gas are like that. If you do cut out dairy, let me know and I'll give you more info on what exactly to look for and cut out (dairy comes in TONS of stuff and it's not always labeled as milk)
Sashi, your doc said you can't even take the mini pill (it's estrogen free)? Way to go on the weight! How did you do it so fast? I forget the links offhand, but you can find the percentile charts online. I think you'd search for the AAP growth charts, or something like that.
JBB, my OB always said it's the estrogen in the regular pill that can lower your milk supply and the mini pill doesn't have it. I was on it the entire time I BFed Seth and had no supply issues.
Holly, thanks for the links.
Sadie, welcome to the new thread! Sooo glad the surgery went well!!
Jay, hope Cole gets better soon! Awww, lookit the precious pics!
what are y'all doing about birth control?? My tubes were tied so BC is easy for us! I'll probably go on Mirena, though, once AF comes back, since I have endo and I get a lot of pain with AF if I'm not on some kind of hormones.
