View Full Version : February 2008 Moms: Watching Our New Babies Grow!
Hi everyone! This will be quick because I'm on call, but I have to post some pictures! Emma just started smiling a lot this weekend (before it was really rare) -- so cute!! She also rolled over from front to back. :)
I keep her swaddled, but because she'll sleep 11 hours I'm not changing a thing! I don't remember when I stopped with DS, I have to check.
He's great with her, but I do evenings by myself a lot too. When she was smaller I kept her in a sling and just did everything (bath, reading, lying in bed with him). Now I just put her to bed first, even if it means he's up a bit later. She usually goes down for the night around 7:30 so it's been working out.
I still have a little peanut -- she still fits in her 0-3 month clothes! Size 1 diapers though, no more N's LOL. She's probably a bit under 12 lbs at this point. DS started solids at 6 months I think, and I don't know what I'll do with her.
Ok, gotta run. I also have to work all day tomorrow which I'm dreading, and then I have to really get going on the packing. We're moving next Wednesday!! I'm on call Tuesday, and the movers are going to go to our apartment and pack up the whole kitchen and whatever else we don't get to. Then Wed morning I'll go home and we'll move! Exciting! DS decided he doesn't like his "old room" anymore; I hope he likes his new one! Emma doesn't really know what's going on :p
Here are the pictures -- sorry if they're huge! I'm so excited that it looks like her eyes will stay blue (mine are, and DH's are brown. DS's started dark blue then changed to brown, but I think Emma's will stay like this!)

Let's see if I can get caught up here. I'm so amazed at how active this thread is!
cradle cap I'm happy to report that we are winning the cradle cap battle. After buying all kinds of products to help the thing that is helping the most is NOT washing his hair every day and good ol' A&D ointment. DH just smeared some on his head one day and viola his head cleared up. Go figure. I think it acts much like the oil treatment to remove the scales but since I don't have to wash it off (like the oil) his head gets a chance to recover.
swaddling It works like a charm for us, except if we don't do it exactly right (like in the middle of the night) he breaks out of it and wakes himself up. So tonight I decided to leave his arms out. We will see how it goes, if he wakes up I'll probably swaddle his arms again because I won't have the patience to get him back to sleep at 3 am.
sleeping Generally he has been going to bed at 7:30, waking at 2 or 3 to eat and then up for the day between 5 and 6. In addition he has been taking 3 hour naps!! He usually wakes up crying at least once but goes back to sleep if I soothe him. Sometimes I get him up at the mid-point if I need to get out of the house for a bit.
heat We are having a little heat wave of our own... it was 70 today :p.
Pools I stuck Leo's feet in our friends pool yesterday. He was not impressed, but he tolerated it. We are going on vacation in a few weeks (to MN, Hi Holly!) and I am sure we will have to go in the pool there.
Rolling Leo can roll he just doesn't do it very often. He would much rather be standing. I think he figures, why roll if I can just start crying and have mommy do it for me ;).
naps Leo is generally a cat napper except for his marathon 3 hour naps that he does sometimes. It's kind of frustrating because they are often from 12-3, the prime time to get things done. I found that if I soothe him instead of getting him up when he cries he'll go back to sleep for longer.
clothes We are still in 3-6 month but 6-9 is right around the corner. The 3-6 still fit but I'm having a hard time getting them over his big head.
Father's Day DH has gotten to go out to play for the past few nights, does that count? LOL. I guess I should figure out something to get him but I'm too busy working and taking care of the baby. (I'm not bitter I'm just tired).
Lisa That shirt is so precious. Great job Scott! Happy Birthday Lisa.
Brady Drew is so cute. Leo has been trying to stand for months now, he loves it. I hope you get good news at the doctor, definitely let us know how it goes.
pgbg Emma is gorgeous. Do we have another red head in the bunch? I can't believe she is only 12 lbs, it's amazing how different all our babies are in terms of size. Good luck with the move.
mcgwigan Sorry to hear you are sick, I hope you feel better soon.
sashi Ooh teeth, how exciting and scary!
Sorry to not get everyone, I must go to bed soon! Also I seem to have a blocked duct in my right breast, it HURTS. I don't think it's mastitis as I don't have any other symptoms, just a hard tender area. I'm trying to pump/nurse on that side as much as possible. I really hope it doesn't get worse.

Before my boss gets in and I have a minute for this.
Sashi ~ I got this type of bathing suit for Addison, I copied the one for boys for you.
I-Play Boys Trunks With Ultimate Swim Diaper - Lime Frog (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2982695). It has a swim diaper, haven't tried it out yet but I thought it would be better than putting a diaper on her in the ocean.
This is Addison't bathing suit:

Ok back to work for me!

Sashi One of my friends uses those little swimmers - they're disposable swim diapers & they don't swell up like regular diapers.
pgbg She is adorable - Those eyes look fantastic with that hair! Good luck with the move!
La_mer I had success with the cradle cap too-I ended up using mineral oil & selsun blue 2 times in one week. The mineral oil is what did the trick I think. I just put it on about 30 minutes before bath then washed with the selsun blue. I hope the blocked duct clears for you soon - the one I had took a bit over 24 hours to clear. Nurse as much as possible & try a warm compress too! You'll know when it clears!
Cooing So last night it sounded like we have an owl in the house. He has been a lot more vocal lately, but last night he cooed every time he woke up and just keeps going - he's loud too!! I wasn't so happy about having to get up every couple of hours to try to get him back to sleep! I still don't feel well, but am at work today.

PGBG - Emma is adorable! Her eyes are sooo blue. My son's are dark blue and i see them changing to brown already. I had hopes he would have green eyes like me.
McGwigan - Too funny! I seriously thought you had an owl in your house, and then I read on. I started thinking to myself "How does that happen?" That was a total DUH moment for me.
LaMer - ewww, sorry about the plugged duct. How did you get it? I get quite engorged as an EP'r sometimes missing pumping sessions but i haven't gotten one yet (knock on wood). Congrats on solving the cradle cap issue, i guess we'll have to try it. I'm not too concerned especially since he has to wear a lot of hats now. Poor baby has lost half his head of hair.
DelSol - Thnks for that link, I have to go to BRU soon to return some things so I guess i'll be picking up his 5th bathing suit, and suprisingly the only one he'll probably wear! lol Girls stuff is so much cuter!
This BTW, is the float we got:

And this cabana:

3 hours after I wrote that he is 80% over when he rolls I was proven wrong. WE HAVE A ROLLER! He loves it. Rolls back and forth all the time, especially in his crib, he loves it!
He slept from 10-6:15 last night! I was so engorged that I pumped 16 ounces at 6am!!!

Aaron will be 4 months on Sunday and I can't believe it! His WBV is on Tuesday and I can't wait to see how big he is! He'll be starting rice cereal that night since we got the ok from the allergist. We're also starting a semi sleep training program with him. I was fine letting the others fully CIO at 4 months, but for some reason I can't with Aaron. So I'm sorta Ferberizing him now. If it doesn't work in a few weeks then I'll full out CIO. I think some of his nighttime problems as well as the reason behind his 45 mins naps is that he doesn't know how to put himself back to sleep. When he wakes up in the morning and isn't hungry, he wakes up happy and not crying so when he wakes up screaming after 45 mins of nap, it makes me think he's still exhausted. He can take much longer naps if he's in the car or stroller so I guess that helps him fall back to sleep.
Last night he woke up every 2 hours but I gave him the binky and he went back to sleep. He didn't eat for 6 hours, so I know 6 hours is a good time frame for not feeding him. If he cries at night I'll still go to him, but try not to feed him. Of course if he freaks and eats his hands and stuff, I'll know he's hungry and will feed him. Just now he woke up after exactly 45 mins of napping in his crib and I let him cry for about 6-7 mins before giving him his binky, which he just knocked out of his mouth and is therefore crying again. I really think he needs to learn how to go back to sleep and then we'll be fine so that's what we're trying to teach him to do.
ETA: it worked for him going to sleep for nap, but not for waking up after 45 mins. He got so hysterical that I took him out on my 3rd trip up there. I lasted about 18 mins. I'll talk to the ped about this on Tuesday. It's strange that at bedtime he goes in wide awake and never cries and wakes up w/o crying, but for naps he screams!
He slept from 10-6:15 last night! I was so engorged that I pumped 16 ounces at 6am!!!
We had to wake Emma up this morning so DH could take her to daycare at 6:30, and she hadn't eaten since about 8 PM. I pumped 14 oz!! I usually pump after I feed her in the morning, and still get a lot then too.
Bumbo I had one from DS, and put Emma in it a few weeks ago -- she didn't love it, but was able to sit up for a while. I think I'll try it again soon. I think w/ DS we started closer to 4 months and he loved it. It's great for just plopping them down in the room with you while you do stuff because they like the new view that sitting upright gives!
Sashi I have a cabana and floating thing like those that we used w/ DS and they're great. I recommend the Little Swimmers -- you DEFINITELY can't use a regular diaper in the pool!!! DH did that once by accident recently with DS, and he started saying "My penis hurts!!!" and crying...when he took him out the diaper was SOOOO tight because it had swelled up so much. I think DH didn't know whether to laugh or cry about what he'd done, LOL (I missed it but can only imagine!). I think all disposable swim diapers start at about 16 lbs (too big for me, but might work for you). The bathing suit that DelSol posted can be used without a diaper, but I'm not sure of the weight range for those.
Back to work, hope everyone is doing well and have great Father's Days!!

Sashi: I used Hylands with Seth and LOVED them, until I found out they have milk in them so we had to stop using them with him. I wish I could use them again this time but the allergist wants us to stay away from dairy. Thanks for the bday wishes. Have you tried Little Swimmers from Huggies (http://www.huggieshappybaby.com/products/index.aspx?swimmers)? They are their swim diapers. I've used them with all 3 kids and love them. 16,5? WOW! What percentile is he in? Yippee for rolling!!
Brady, too funny about the bigger brothers rolling the little ones across the floor! LOL
Megan, I think he lost the reflux. Seth has tried to feed him pretend baby food with a toy spoon and I think I saw him sucking on it instead of pushing it out of his mouth before I told Seth not to do that anymore! LOL Are you feeling better?
pgbg, she's gorgeous! Look at those eyes, WOW! Good luck with the move!
la_Mer, any tips on how to get Aaron to fall back asleep during his naps? 70 is a heat wave for you?????? :p It was over 100 here with the heat index for 4 days straight!! LOL Thanks for the bday wishes!
Dana, OMG that bathing suit is too cute!
~~~~~~
Moving in sleep: Who else has a pinwheel?! LOL It cracks me up to see where he'll be when I go get him. He's also taken to sleeping on his side now.
Let down: So after a few months of no longer feeling my milk let down, I've been feeling it again. How weird is that? Is it happening to anyone else?
~~~~~~
ETA: The Little Swimmers comes in S, M or L so they can be used for any age/ size

Lisa Nope, don't feel better. Haven't had a repeat Doc visit either because I don't have a fever, so they won't do anything for me. I did have blood work done on Tues, maybe I should call to see if they have that back. DH tried giving Wyatt some ice cream last night  (I know, I know!!) and he just kept sticking his tongue out, so I think we'll be waiting for a while longer to try cereal.
pgbg wow! That's a nice long sleep!!
Sashi Yay for the good sleep for you too!
Wyatt just woke once last night at midnight and then was up for the day at 5:45 - so not too bad in my eyes. My left nipple is so sore - there are 2 red spots- I am trying to not let him nurse from that side until I can figure out what the heck is going on with it. Of course, that's the bigger producing side, so I'm not sure how successful I'll be with that! Today I had to send a bottle of formula to daycare because I hadn't pumped enough yesterday - I have no idea why I didn't just take a bag of milk out of the freezer though ! Oh well!
Moving in sleep Wyatt was rotating around in his crib but hasn't done it in a while - maybe he figured out that he was hitting his head doing that? Is there a point when I can put the crib bumpers back in & not have to worry about suffocation?
Let down I usually feel it and it's painful. I went through a time period when it was extra painful - now it's just down to a dull roar - so weird!
Little swimmers One of my friends bought the size small last year for her baby that was born in March - she didn't use the whole package and he can still wear them this year!
Oh, I went to see Wyatt on my lunch break today and doesn't my car decide to just not start when I went to leave? One of my co-workers came & picked me up, so now I have to figure out what to do about that when I get out of work - and of course, DSS has a Baseball game tonight too!

baths What does everyone use for bathtubs? I've been using this:http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-3008503_alternate1_reg.jpg
But he's been getting a little kicky and squirmy so I asked my friend at work what she used for hers and she's going to bring me in this to try:
http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-4171927reg.jpg
It looks like it will be a lot better! She also brought me in her bumbo seat to borrow, so I can't wait to get home tonight to see how he likes it! Providing that I DO get home! Stupid car!

Megan, ugh, feel better soon! If you took the crib bumpers off and he's moving, I don't think it's safe to put them back on. In fact, we're taking ours off this weekend. Aaron moves so much he kicked on his Rainforest thingy last night! LOL As for tubs, we used The First Years Sure Comfort Deluxe tub (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2403667) with Jackie & Sethy and got a new one (the old one got gross) for Aaron. We LOVE it!

Sorry about your car, Megan! I hope it just needs a jump.

tub We have the same tub as Lisa and Brady. Leo loves bathtime, it's a great tub.
Bumbo Our friend gave us a Bumbo. Leo likes sitting in it and playing with his feet. But I don't think it will last too much longer, his chubby legs are almost too big to fit through the leg holes!
bathing suit We have the same one (brand) as DelSol, but the boy version. I think we are going to get some disposable swimmers for our vacation since I won't be able to wash it.
mcgwigan We have an owl in our house too, Leo loves to screetch. More than than he loves to blow razzberries. He loves it, and I if I do it back he laughs and laughs. I hope your car is something easy to fix like the battery.
Sashi I'm not exactly sure what caused it. I did get engorged the night before and I wore a regular underwire bra the day before. It might have been the combination. I nursed/pumped like crazy on that side and massaged the area, it is much better now. YAY for rolling.
Lisa He goes back to sleep pretty easily. I usually just put his pacifier back in, and pat/rub him until he calms down and goes back to sleep. And yes, it is rare that it gets to be 70 in the city where we are. Today I think it's going to be near 80, I think people will start melting, LOL.
Leo's new trick is to blow razzberries. He does it all-day-long. If I play with him and blow back he thinks it's so funny. It's really cute, but I'm ready to hear some other sounds.

McGwigan - I use the aquariam one similar to rainforest one you posted. We've been using a sponge to sit him in fearing he's going to hurt himself (he's too big for the infant sling they have with it). I like it a lot. I registered for the one everyone else seems to have but got 2 other ones, go figure! I also have the Safety 1st seat for when he's older......

Hi everyone! It's seems like it's been a while!
Between work and home it has been so busy. I haven't had to work this hard in forever ;)
Ethan had his 4 month WBV today.
14lbs14oz with an empty belly and after full diaper (he gets weighed naked)
25 inches
16.5 inch head
So he was 50% on everything. He also got his first round of shots. He got Polio, Hep B, and DTaP. We are crossing our fingers that there isn't a reaction.
Pool ~ Ethan went swimming for the first time a week ago Tues. I will have to post some pictures because they were too cute. He LOVED it. I was so amazed that he didn't freak out. He wore a suit with a built in swim diaper - which of course are designed to contain any accidents not of the urine variety ;)
Naps ~ E is also a major cat napper. He really is a great sleeper compared to Andrew. He can fall asleep on his own and he is still sleeping really well at night.
Rolling ~ Not yet. He doesn't even seem motivated yet. He is great at grabbing everything and sticking it in his mouth though!
Heat ~ It's just a fact of life for us. When you live in AZ you just deal with it. Anything under 100 is a nice day for us! It is supposed to be 110 for fathers day. We are having a bit of a cool down today and it will only be 101!! So we deal with it as best as possible but we definitely still go outside and just try to do things in the shade or indoors when it get to the 110's. The heat does get to Ethan a bit as he is already a clammy little guy so we just dress him lightly and make sure he isn't in direct sun.
Cradle Cap ~ Ethan didn't get it. Andrew had it terribly and I STILL have to keep a look out for it and he is 3.5 years old! Andrew had it bad though. Make sure you keep up with it as it can even get to their eyebrows. I think Ethan didn't get it because I was more careful of not bathing him too often and not washing his hair except once a week or so. Sometimes being too clean strips the oils which makes the body go into overdrive to create more and then you end up with CC.
Clothes ~ It really depends on the brand. He is in a lot of his 6-9 month stuff and is growing out of his carter's 3 month stuff. I need to take a peak at his wardrobe to see what he had for summer clothes in that size since Andrew had a winter wardrobe (as much of a winter wardrobe as it gets in AZ at least ;) )
Tongue ~ Ethan has definitely been having fun with his tongue and making noises. He has found his voice and his tongue and it is so cute. He was sticking his tongue out at a lady in the waiting room at the Ped. today. He also has fun seeing how loud he can 'talk' and different noises. It is so stinkin cute! It won't be too long before he has figured out how to blow raspberries!
Father's Day ~ We are going to go swimming, have wings, and drink beer! It's was DH wanted and it sounds good to me!
So a friend of mine had her baby today! He was born at 8:38 and weighed 8lb6oz 20.5 inches long. We happened to be down the street at E's appt. so we stopped in for a super quick visit since we were literally right there. He was SOOOOO tiny looking to me! Ethan looked huge compared to him and he was a full Pound lighter than him when he was born! It is so amazing how different they are in such a short amount of time!
I think that's it for now!

S&S Ethan is so cute in his floaty! I hope he didn't have a reaction from his shots. I was surprised that this is his first round - I think most of us started them at 2 months - is that just how your peds office does it, or did you ask to wait?
la_Mer I was trying to get Wyatt to blow razzsberries but he just sticks his tongue out & smiles - just as cute!
Lisa Cute bath pictures!!
Thanks for the input on the tubs! I'm going to try the one my friend brought for me to try like Sashi has - I'm not sure Wyatt will be keen lying on that sling thing - the other one everyone else has looks like it would work well!
I was able to jump start my car last night and it started right up this morning. I stopped on my way to work this morning to have the battery and alternator checked & they are both fine. So it's a mystery- I just hope it behaves today since I have to take Wyatt to the city for a Dr's appointmnet and I do not want to be stranded in the hospital parking garage!
Wyatt was a little piggy last night. He normally drinks 5oz tops when he's at the sitters. He nursed last night at 7:00 and was asleep in his crib at 7:15 just to wake up at 8:00. I gave him a bottle with 2oz and he still wanted more, so put another 2 oz & he guzzled that so I dumped the rest of what I had pumped in there and he ended up drinking a total of 7oz! I was like -whoa!! He slept from 8:30 to 5:30 after that:D. Whoo-hoo!!
Sashi

McGwigan - That sling thing is only for when they are newborns.....i think only up to 12 pounds. I just use the tub and up until a few weeks ago i was using a bathsponge too so it wasn't too hard on his head.

mcgwigan ~ I had an insurance issue where he wasn't added at first so we actually didn't do a 2 month WBV and we just waited until the 4 month one. I delay vax a bit anyway so it really didn't bother me. That's also why he only got 3 yesterday. I am glad that your car started but that is really weird! It sounds like Wyatt is going through a growth spurt!
So far Ethan is doing well with his shots. He had a bit of a fever in the middle of the night but otherwise seems to be his normal self.
DH had a fun and exciting morning. He took the boys out to breakfast and Ethan had a MAJOR blowout. Of course the diaper bag magically fills itself ( ;) ) and DH doesn't always remember to check to see what is in it and just assumes that it will be like Mary Poppins and whatever he needs will just be there since it usually is. So I hadn't replaced the 'back up' outfit so poor Ethan had to go home in a wiped out outfit. I bet he remembers to check the bag before he leaves from now on ;)

Kassidy had her 4 month WBV today, too. Here are her stats:
Weight: 15 lbs, 3 oz (90%)
Length: 26 3/4" (+95%)
head: 40 1/2 cm (50%)
She's been pretty steady with the percentiles, they've been the same since her 2 week WBV, except for the length, which seems to be increasing!
I'll be back later tonight with SOs.
I'm sorry I'm too far behind to do shoutouts. Glancing over the posts I saw the bathtub question. We have the same as Eliezrah-but in pink-I love it because Julia loves it!!!
This was a crazy week. Julia and I went to NJ this weekend and came back early Monday am. On Monday evening we were told they would be painting our doorways on Tuesday and Wed. (They are redoing our hallways-it's been going on for 2 months-we have 12 floors and they vary what floor they are working on). Anyway I didn't think much of it. At 3pm Julia and I got back from Gymbore to find our door open-they doors had to be kept open to let the paint dry (they had porters guarding the floor). Between the fumes and the heat it was awful. So I called DH and said I thought it best if Julia and I left for NJ. My dad was coming over to watch Julia while I was at the drs and then driving back to NJ. He came, and he ended up driving around with Julia so that they could be in airconditioning while I was at the drs because the apt was so hot. We we there for 2 days-it was very nice!
Hope everyone has a nice weekend-and that you all have fun celebrating Father's Day! Julia, DH and I will be going to a Mexican restaurant with my parents and my sister and bil.

Lisa ~ the rest of the week was a little bit better but Addison must be teething because all she does at night is cry. I feel so bad because I don't know what to do. Good luck with starting the cereal.
Brady ~ cute pictures! Drew is such a cutie!
Sashi ~ sorry you had to cut your trip short, that's one thing I am hoping we don't have to do when we go to Ocean CIty, MD. We'll be in a townhouse so hopefully we can make it feel like her home for a week. How is Ollie handling the teething? I hope he's better, poor Addison is getting worse. I try to limit the Tylenol but she probably gets it once a day just because she screams so bad, mainly at night. I like the floaty you got, that's the cabana I want but my sister is checking to see what she has before I got out and spend the money on one. Woo hoo for Ollie rolling over!!!!
pgbg ~ Emma is adorable. I love her blue eyes, I'm jealous. The bathing suit I got comes in different sizes.
la_Mer ~ Addison does her raspberries also. She'll start them in the car and I just start laughing. Wow look at Leo grow!
mcgwigan ~ since Wyatt's starting to move around I would leave the bumper pads out. Addison moves in her sleep, there are times she'll do a 180. We've got a little owl in our house also.
sparkle&shine ~ great pictures of Ethan.
Kristi ~ looks liks she's going to be tall!

Updated to here.
I think I've added all the babies' new stats. If I've missed something, let us know!

JBB: Glad you could escape to NJ. The door painting sounds like it was a PITA, especially with the heat.
la_Mer: Wow! 17 lbs, can you believe it?? Does it make you long for that little tiny baby he once was?
S&S: I'm glad Ethan did so well with the shots. That's a funny story about your DH...it sounds a lot like my SIL and brother when their twins were little. They'd get somewhere and realize they had no diapers or wipes or go out of town and have to buy tylenol because they didn't bring any. I learned from them how to pack my diaper bag!!! Cute pictures of Ethan...I love the one in his swim trunks!
Megan: I have the same bathtub as Sashi...the same as the rainforest one except it's the aquarium version. I actually have still been using the hammock part of it and just thought yesterday that she's probably too big for it. I dug out the directions this evening and it says up to 10 pounds! Yeah, she's way too big for it!
Sashi: They make those Little Swimmers. We actually looked at some in the store the other day and I think the weight starts at 16 lbs for the smallest size they have, so they'd fit Ollie. I just didn't think we'd get enough use out of a package and figured they'd be too big for Kassidy. But it sounds like you guys will be going to the pool a lot so it might be better for you.
Hope you guys have a great Father's Day with your DH's and babies!
Kassidy got her shots today. I decided not to delay any of them because I really just want to get them over with. After her crying fit in the doctor's office, she was pretty good once we got home. A little fussy and a low grade fever, but she's sleeping great now.
Tomorrow my ILs are coming over to visit and have lunch. It will be the first time they've been over to our house since we bought it. We'll see how that goes. It will be weird because this is the first "holiday" without any of my family. My mom makes a big deal out of every holiday, so it'll be a change for me.

Pookie & Sashi I used that tub tonight - I left the hamock thing in it, but only hooked up at the head, so it wasn't supporting him and I flipped the pillow thing back so he had that for his head. It was pretty funny, because he kept his feet up rather than letting them just hang - I kind of like the chair thing I had been using better, which surprised me. It supports him better and I can also move the chair thing around in the tub when he's in it (helpful while I search for the pouring cup).
Pookie I hope Kassidy was OK after her shots & hope your IL's liked your house!
Nothing new going on here. We had a baseball game this morning for DSS. When I got there I learned that all the other wives (almost all) had gone to this HUGE garage sale that's in a nice area- I had forgotten about them & had thought about going to see if I could find a jumparoo - oh well, it rained all day, so maybe if I went in the morning I'd find one, but I probably won't go.

Mcgwigan - I don't love the tub either but someone bought it for us and it is what it is. I look forward to not using it anymore. We don't use any sling or cushion anymore, just too time consuming, etc.
LaMer - WHOA NELLY! You've got a big boy there! I thought Ollie was big, I'm glad he is in good company!!
DelSol - Aww, poor Addison. Ollie is doing better. I'm starting to think the teething tablets are GREAT or he's not teething and just mouthing everything. Babies R Us near me carries them too (and cheaper than Whole Foods). Sooo many people told me Baby Orajel is just heaven when your sick of the baby screaming and they are in pain.
Pookie - She is a tall girl! Everyone keeps telling me how tall Oliver is and she's got over an inch on him (with over a pound lighter than him too!) She is just soooo precious.
S&S - Ethan is such a cutie, love the pics!
We bought those little swimmers, they were on sale at Target over the weekend. We went swimming yesterday and he LOVED IT! Definitely think the poor diaper got too tight on him and he was upset about it the last time. We stayed in for 20 minutes i think. I did notice however when i was waiting for the tub to fill up he peed and the little swimmer didn't keep it in, it just poured out onto me and the floor. I hope he didn't pee in the pool like that!?

Sashi I think I read somewhere that their urine is sterile when it comes out, so I don't think you have to worry about baby pee in the pool :p. Be careful of baby oraljel- to not use too much, or it could numb their mouth/throat and make swallowing difficult for them.
I hope everyone had a good Father's Day. We didn't do too much - I made DH breakfast in the morning, then in the afternoon we went to his brother's house and hung out there all after noon. DSS had made him a picture frame in school & gave it to DH last night. The picture is of DSS making the sign for "I love you", which I was impressed by - he tends to be a little emotionally detached. I made sure that DH knew what that sign meant - he hadn't known. I didn't get around to calling my Dad until last night & talked with my mom afterward, who updated me on my dad's latest health issues. They just discovered Saturday that he has a twisted stomach, so that will probably lead to surgery :(. He just had heart surgery 3 years ago I think.

Hi Everyone..
Just got back from Drew's 4 month WBV and thought I would post the stats.. I'll come back later for replies.
Weight- 16lbs 11oz
Height- 26.3"
I forget the head measurement, I know he said it was 50th percentile. I had a feeling he would be that big weight/length wise just due to him being in 6-9 month clothes already.. and quite honestly, I think she was generous on his weight! :)

Pookie ~ Wow what a tall girlie you have there! I hope your Father's day with the in-laws went well.
JBB ~ That is too funny that you used the car for the air conditioning! The door painting doesn't sound fun but I bet it looks nice.
mcgwigan ~ What a cute gift for your DH was it DSS's idea? I am sorry to hear about your dad that doesn't sound comfortable at all!
Sashi ~ Little swimmers are only meant to hold solids ;) That's why I just bought a swimsuit with a built in swim diaper. Urine is sterile so it's okay you just don't want any pooh floating around in the pool!
We had a nice weekend. Father's day was nice. We went swimming all day and had friends over. We ordered wings and pizza and just munched and had some cold beer. Ethan loved the pool and got so relaxed he even fell asleep!
PookiePrincessHope it went well hosting in your new home-I am sure it was wonderful!
mcgwiganI hope your dad is okay.
SashiGlad he liked swimming!
Sparkle and ShineI know-there was something comical about it being more pleasant for Julia in the car than our home!
Hope everyone had a nice Father's Day! We had a nice day. Took Julia to the playground and put her in the baby swing for the first time. And then we went to dinner with my parents and sister and bil.
Okay, have to do some work. Julia is out with the babysitter so that I can get some work done!
you just don't want any pooh floating around in the pool!!
This just made me giggle out loud -- did you mean Winnie the Pooh?!! :p
I'm leaving work now to go home and get some more packing done -- we're almost in the new house!
Emma is smiling up a storm and sleeping 11 hours straight. It's just amazing. I'm glad I had my son first so I didn't get used to this!!
I'll be back for SO's later!

Megan: Yeah, I tried the bathtub without the hammock thing this evening and wasn't thrilled with it. She did better before in the hammock, even though she's supposed to be too big for it. I might keep using it like I was until she can sit up all the way. I just didn't feel like I could get her all the way clean tonight! That's sweet what your DSS got your DH for Father's Day! I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I hope everything goes well if he ends up having surgery.
Sashi: Thanks! She looks just like me when I was a baby...it's scary! Yikes about the pee! If we plan on swimming much more this summer, I might try out the little swimmers. I'm actually thinking about getting a small pool for our backyard that we can play in.
S&S: Glad you guys had a relaxing Father's Day! Pizza, beer, and wings...sounds like my DH's kind of holiday!!
JBB: Is Julia doing better with the babysitter? Or is it just when they stay in the apartment with you that she gets upset?
pgbg: Good luck with the packing! I bet you can't wait to get settled in the new house!
The afternoon with the ILs went okay Saturday. They're just not my parents and there's nothing I can do about that (I'm going to post more in my LJ about all that). Kassidy was miserable. She ran a fever most of the day and cried most of the time unless she was napping. I felt so bad for her, but she was better Sunday. She was actually very happy today, smiling and giggling quite a bit!

I haven't even read what I missed the past few days and I promise to do so and do SOs after I make lunch. I just wanted to share the news from Aaron's 4 month WBV this morning before I forgot!
2 days before he was 3 months old, Aaron weighed 14, 14 and was in the 90th%. Today was his 4 month WBV, 2 days after he turned 4 months and I guessed he'd be 16,6. I figured he gained 1 1/2 lbs. Nopers, I was wrong.... He's 16,10!!!!:eek: Still in the 90th% but OMG he's HUGE!!! He's 25 1/4 inches long (50th%) and his "perfectly round head" (as several strangers have commented to me) is between the 50-75th% up from the 50th.
I told her we started rice cereal 2 days ago since she said last month we can at 4 months and the allergist said we can as well and he loves it. He still nurses so often that she actually said we can try it twice a day now instead of waiting a month to do it twice a day! :eek:In about a month or so we'll start stage 1 foods which I know he'll LOVE!
Poor baby got 4 shots and 1 oral vaccine so I know he'll be out of it for the next day or so, but he did very well and I'm very proud of him. He got polio, DTaP, Hib, PCV7 and the oral rotavirus.
So here's his updated stats list:
Birth: 8lbs, 1 oz & 19 inches
2 weeks: 8 lbs, 5 oz
1 month: 9 lbs, 13 oz
2 months: 13lbs, 4oz & 22 1/2 inches
3 months: 14lbs, 14oz
4 months: 16lbs, 10ozs & 25 1/4 inches He's more than doubled his birth weight already!!!! :eek::eek:

Pookie You have a tall girl on your hands. Everyone warned me, but I just can't believe how fast they grow. We aren't delaying shots either. Originally I wanted to, but they make it very difficult at our peds office to do so. Leo seems to tolerate them ok so we're going with the standard routine. Sorry to hear Kassidy had a fever. It's so hard to see them hurting.
mcgwigan Awww, what a sweet gift from your DSS. On Father's Day I was thinking how much more fun it will be when Leo can make gifts for DH. I'm sorry to hear about your Dad.
sashi It was funny, the assistant at first said "He's 16 lbs 16 oz" then she said "Wait that's 17 lbs!" No one expected him to weigh that much. I have to give you kudos again for sticking with pumping for Ollie. I think of you when I moan and groan about having to get my pump out again when I'm at work. You inspire me to keep going!
Brady Yay for more big babies!
S&S Sounds like a perfect Father's Day. We had pizza too (DH's request) I was so relieved that he didn't want me to cook something elaborate.
JBB I'm glad you were able to get out of the apartment while they were painting. How did she like the swing?
pgbg I'm so glad to hear Emma is such a good sleeper even if your DS wasn't. It gives me hope that it will be easier next time. I hope you are able to enjoy your new house soon.
Lisa Go Aaron! Leo got the same shots. I feel like having a big baby helps with the shots, there is more padding to absorb the pain.
DH has had a cold for the past week, and despite all my efforts to keep him away from the baby Leo now has his first cold. Poor guy. I think it bothers me more than it bothers him. We had a rough night because he is so stuffy. Poor guy.
Ok back to work!

Solids: Nope. I'm waiting until 6 months. And I might not even start with rice cereal, I haven't decided for sure yet.
On another note, I was reading through my baby book the other day to see how big I was at 4 months, and the ped when I was little said my mom could start me on cereal at 6 weeks! Can you imagine?? I think my mom waited until 8 weeks. It's crazy the difference in the past 30 years.
Eliezrah
06-17-2008, 10:54 AM
Kristi, Scott (DH) was on rice cereal at 5 weeks and FIL was trying to tell me it's ok to still do so....Um, I don't think so, not with all the new knowledge that's out there! We originally wanted to wait until 6 months with Aaron, but he was ready and is not fully satisfied w/ BM alone... and I know I have no supply issues!!! He's loving it so far and so far no reactions, so I'm glad we started it!
la_mer, I hear ya about the padding! LOL His little penis gets smooshed down like a turtle and the ped said it's because of all his padding! LOL

Brady Wow, Drew's a bigboy!
S&S The father's day gift was one of those they did in school. I'll have to say that I'm impressed with some of the school stuff this year. They did a book -an actual hard cover, published book - class effort and the teacher also put together a nice DVD of the kids. It will be nice to have those things to look back on!
JBB I'd like to know if Julia liked the swing too! If not, don't give up - Wyatt changes his mind weekly about the swing it seems!
pgbg I had the same thought with pooh too! Hope your move went/is going well too!
Pookie Yeah - I'm not sold on that tub because I can't clean his hiney well! With the other chair thing I have he will actually lift it up for me to clean by arching his back and putting his weight on his feet - he's a good boy in the tub!! I hope Kassidy is feeling better today!
Lisa Wow - another bigboy!! I'm glad he likes his cereal! I hope that he's not fussy/sick/fever or any of that from his shots & rotavirus vacs!
la_Mer Sorry Leo has a cold! I think Wyatt also has a little bit of one, but I think it's from the air conditioning - it's always hard when you first turn it on!
Pookie Yep, the difference between then & now is crazy. My mom was told she could not breast feed my brother, so she formula fed him & they had her giving him cereal in the bottle also - and she said he was obese. When she had me, she totally didn't listen to the Dr's and breastfed.

Back from Wyatt's WBV. Here are his stats:
4 month wbv
length - 25 1/2" - 70th percentile
weight - 16 lbs - 70th percentile
head - 43cm also 70th percentile!
The ped also said we could start solids whenever we wanted - we'll experiment with this some. I don't think he needs it right now, but I'm sure it won't hurt to get him used to them &, as the ped said- may improve his sleeping.

Lisa- When are you giving Aaron the cereal? I'm trying to remember how I did it the first time around.. is it before the first feeding of the day? Is that the good time to start?
ETA- Wow, we have some big boys on this thread, eh?? :)
mcgwigan
06-17-2008, 06:33 PM
Hee-hee....I was looking at the first page, little Wywy gained 3 lbs 10 oz from his 2 month wbv to the 4 month wbv .
These are the stats:
Birth: 6lbs, 15 oz & 19.5 inches
1 month: 8 lbs, 6 oz & 21 inches
2 months: 12 lbs, 6 ozs & 23 1/2 inches
4 months 16 lbs, 25 1/2" long
I am amazed over & over at how fast all of our babies are growing!
Brady From what I've read on starting solids they suggest that to start with, you give them the cereal (or whatever) after their formula or breastmilk since they should still be getting most of their nutrition fom that & the time of day doesn't matter really. I think that I'll give Wyatt cereal in the evening to start with-probably after he nurses, but before bath & bedtime ritual even though he nurses at bedtime again. I'm always wondering if he's had enough to eat before bed because he will sometimes nurse for what seems like forever. I'll top him off with a bottle if I think he's still trying to get more to eat. Hopefully the cereal will help with that. The evening will also fit in to my schedule a bit easier - I can't handle an extra step in the morning lately -I've been super tired!
pgbgEmma sleeps 11 hours-I can only dream of Julia doing that!!!!
PookiePrincessJulia is still awful with the babysitter in the apt. However if they go out she is fine. Glad Kassidy is feeling better.
EliezrahGlad the rice cereal is going well!

QOTD - Did anybody else get the IUD?
Brady - Are you stoked about the Celtics right now? You Boston people .... LOL ;)
Man, I've been soooo busy. DH has been out of town and I've been working .... exhausting. Thank goodness DH is now home! I will say, though, that although 2 kids is beyond exhausting when you are by yourself, it's so rewarding also. :)
Be back for SO's tomorrow!

JBB: I can't believe Julia still gets upset if they stay in the apartment. I'm not sure how to remedy that, that sucks! Kassidy has the same exersaucer! Julia looks like she has more fun in it though. Kassidy is still a little unsure of it. Have fun at the zoo!
Tammie: We were watching the game tonight! DH is excited! Glad you survived your DH being gone. I was exhausted working and taking care of one, I can't imagine a toddler running around, too!
IUD: I haven't yet. I was still debating whether or not to get the IUD or chart. I've decided I can't chart with the sleep I've been getting and not getting a period yet (though I did spot a bit last week, so maybe that's coming.) I have an appointment with my OB/GYN Monday and I'm going to talk to her about getting one. I'm thinking it's the best option for me. Why do you ask...are you having issues?
Brady
06-18-2008, 07:08 AM
IUD-I have the Mirena. I got it about 7 weeks PP, no issues with it!
Thanks Megan. It's so sad how I've totally forgotten everything in 3 years!! :) I may try Drew on it in the next week or two.
I only have a second as I can hear Drew waking up... but, yesterday we had his appt. in Boston to check his hemangionas. All total, he has 10 of them (a couple are very very tiny).. but the Dermatologist said that anymore than 5, they want to check internally to see if he has one on his liver, as that would be the spot that may cause issues in the future. So, I have to take him for some bloodwork (ugh!) and an ultrasound of his abdomen. Even if there is one on his liver, they really do not do anything about it, they would just monitor him and watch for any signs of a problem. She also said he was lucky in that all the ones on his body were in spots that would not affect him physically in any way, and confirmed that they will all eventually involute and fade. I guess by their 5th birthday most are not noticeable anymore. I need to actually get moving and call the hospital and see if I can get in there today to do the bloodwork/ultrasound as we are on our way back to the Cape. My older son has been there for a couple of days visiting with his grandparents... which means, my vacation is now over! lol. I miss him, but I forgot how easy life was with just one kid!

So this morning when I dropped Wyatt off at daycare- the sitter mentioned that he startles easily and used the example that he even jumps at the microwave door when she warms his bottles up . Ummm-I know that you aren't supposed to warm breastmilk in the microwave because it destroys the immunitive properties- so, should I just pick up a bottle warmer & take that to her when I tell her? I'm sure she doesn't know, but I don't want her to think I'm a PIA for saying something.
PookiePrincess
06-18-2008, 08:43 AM
Megan: Definitely say something and tell her why breastmilk shouldn't be warmed up in the microwave...maybe she just really doesn't know! I'd either pick up a bottle warmer (or ask her if she wants you to get one) or tell her to just put the bottle in warm water until it's warm.

Another QOTD Has anyone moved the straps in their car seat up a notch yet? I think that I need to do this, when I put him in there the top notch is just slightly below his shoulders now, but once I get the straps tightened, he's scooched down a bit so that they are slightly above his shoulders. I'm wondering if the process of pulling the straps tight cause his to scooch down, or do I really not need to raise them yet? I guess I can raise them and see how it looks - I just am lazy and want minimal messing around with it!

06-18-2008, 10:46 AM
Yeah, I moved mine a while ago, but she's long. The same thing was happening as you...I'd get her all buckled in and she'd look hunched over. Moving the straps up helped!
DelSol
06-18-2008, 12:00 PM
I moved mine up about a month ago but that was because I thought it looked like she was getting smooshed in there, now she has room.
Hopefully, I'll get back tonight to do some shout outs, if not tomorrow/Friday, boss is on vacation until 6/30.
Brady
06-18-2008, 12:06 PM

straps- Drew has been on the middle strap for a while now. I think I moved them up around 6 weeks.

Is that for Graco car seats? I have a Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 30 and I guess I never looked. He's pretty comfortable looking?? I guess I'll check when i get home.
We bought a mesh bumper the other day and started using it yesterday. His rolling over was such a problem, we had to take out bumper out. He now is a stomach or side sleeper. Last night he was head down completely! His breathing was sooo muffled. I had to move his head and check on him every so often. OOOHHH I LOVE HIM!
mcgwigan
06-18-2008, 12:35 PM
Sashi Yes, i do have a Graco Snugride seat. There's only 2 strap levels so we'll move them up to the higher notch & that'll be it!

06-18-2008, 01:04 PM
I'm chiming in a little late but...
We moved the straps up about a week ago. He is definitely more comfortable now. I can't believe we are less than three inches away from outgrowing the infant seat! Has anyone thought about what's next?
Also I would definitely say something about the microwave! That is precious stuff! It would be nice to offer to bring a warmer if she doesn't want to do it with hot water.

mcgwigan
06-18-2008, 01:16 PM
la_Mer What kind of seat do you have? I just checked Graco's book online and the height requirement for the snug ride is 29" or less - oh, I guess that's just 3 1/2"! I was looking at the Britax Roundabout when I was registering, but it's only up to 30 lbs I think, so I don't think I'll go that route. Hmmm-will have to start thinking about that so I can shop around! Any input from the RO's on what's next for car seats?
PookiePrincess
06-18-2008, 01:18 PM
la_Mer: We have a Safeseat, so higher weight and height limits. She should fit it until at least her first birthday. But I already know we'll be getting a Britax Marathon, probably next February when they have the big sales.
Brady
06-18-2008, 01:39 PM
car seats- I should have added, we are on the second level of straps, but mine has three levels. I have the Graco Safeseat, not Snugride. With my older son, we had a snugride and I took him out of it around 5 months, he just looked so smooshed in there... he went into the Evenflo Triumph rear-facing till he was 1, and he's still in the same car seat now at 3. He should make it a bit longer in there as it's up to 40lbs, 40". Drew will stay in the Safe Seat until he is at least 1, as it's made for up to 30lbs and 32".
I just noticed that Evenflo now has a new model of the Triumph which holds up to 50lbs.http://www.evenflo.com/Homepage/ProductList/tabid/203/navid/1/Default.aspx?categoryid=0967b93d-ca99-479b-99cd-cb460e254ea8 I would guess they are trying to keep up with the Britax Marathon. We've been very happy with the Triumph though, if you are looking for a bit of a lower cost item.

Brady My SIL has the safeseat - it's quite a bit wider than the snugride - oh well, who could tell I'd have a little chunker:rolleyes: - coincidently my SIL has a little peanut-we have the wrong seats for our babies. I'll have to check out that Evenflo seat sometime-it looks nice. Time to drag out my Baby Bargains book too, to see what they have to say about convertible car seats!
So we tried a little cereal tonight - I'd be surprised if he actually ingested any of it!:) He did really well with trying it though-didn't cry or anything, just got a little fussy after a while so we stopped. We'll try again each evening to see if he'll take to it. It's got to be quite strange to them having only ever had all liquid! (the cereal was really soupy so it's not like I was trying to get him to eat paste!)

Car Seat ~ We have the Evenflo Titan Elite DLX Convertible Car Seat. I think it was rated decently. I sold my Baby Bargains book, totally forgot to keep it to check out the car seats since I need to buy one more car seat.
Our infant carrier is the Graco Safe Seat, so we'll probably be in that one for a while. I know she's getting very heavy to carry around. I know I can just leave the car seat in the car and carry her out there and put her in it that way.
I promise to be back for some shout outs tomorrow, I'm tired and want to get some sleep.

Sashi How do you like the breathable bumper? Does it give a little cushion if he hits his head? I was checking SIL's out over the weekend, but Wyatt has stopped moving around in the crib, so I'm not going to rush to get one yet.
I love it right now (only two days so far) but it does provide minor cushion and the fact that I feel 'safe' with it is by far the best quality. I would definitely invest in it.
Oliver is a stomach sleeper. Now that he is free (out of swaddle) in the crib at daycare and home, he falls right to sleep if he's sleepy and allowed to move on his belly. He's been sleeping like a champ! Hope it continues. :o

We have the SnugRide. At the time I decided I wanted the smaller infant seat because I didn't want to carry around the extra weight of the SafeSeat. I figured that by the time he reached 30 lbs I wouldn't want to be taking an infant seat in and out of the car anyway. So of course I end up with a giant baby :p and he'll probably outgrow his car seat by 5 or definitely 6 months so I would have been better off with the SafeSeat.
mcgwigan I was shocked when I realized how close we are to the height limit. It doesn't seem possible that are babies are growing up this quickly. My ped said to introduce the concept of the spoon and cereal without expecting him to actually eat any for awhile. We aren't going to start until 6 months since breast feeding is quite obviously doing the job :p.
sashi I'm so jealous that Ollie is sleeping Swaddle-free. I am so frustrated with swaddling right now. Leo won't go to sleep without being swaddled, but he also fights his way out during the night and wakes himself up. I've tried not swaddling his arms and it's a sleep battle every time. We have had a few very long nights. I wish he would decide whether he wants to be swaddled or not!

LaMer - That is what happened with Oliver. It was about a week like that. Then one day out of no where he decided he wanted to sleep on his belly or side. He sleeps really really well like that but still not 8-12 hours straight. It was literally the night he started rolling over.
TgoodyMy dr suggested an IUD, but I personally don;t want to consider it until I am completely done with having kids.
PookiePrincessI know-I can't believe she is still getting upset!

la_mer Wyatt was fighting his way out of the swaddle for about a week, so I tried not swaddling him, since he was also fighting being swaddled. It so did not work and now he's back to lying pretty still while I swaddle him and he hasn't broken out of it for a couple weeks now!
I read up some on BPA - is anyone concerned about this or is it all just hype?? I have been using Avent bottles, which have BPA so I had the baby sitter try a playtex nurser with the drop ins that I had. She said he did fine with it, but when I gave him a bottle tonight to supplement after nursing, he had it all over his chin. It was a slow nipple, so I'm not so sure that I'm sold on it yet. I was really impressed with how well he's been taking the Avent bottles. I wish that they made a BPA free one!

BPA: I'm not quite sure what to think about it. It seems a little scary, so a couple of months ago when the media was making such a big deal about it, I went and bought some Born Free bottles. They're expensive, but when she goes to daycare she only gets 3 bottles, so it's not like I need 10+ bottles. I will probably buy some more before she goes back to daycare in August so I have more bottles to rotate out without having to wash them every night. All that so say...I don't know whether it's all hype, but the least I can do is make sure she has BPA free bottles. Who knows, maybe it's one of those things like we were discussing the other day about how they used to start babies on cereal so young and now they know it's not a good thing!

swaddle- Drew has been swaddle-free for a couple of weeks now. When we had that heat wave here, I basically had to go cold turkey since we don't have AC. But, prior to that, I had only been wrapping his legs and I was finding him with his legs out most mornings, so it went pretty smoothly here when I just stopped wrapping him altogether.
BPA- I swear I just saw something in the paper now saying BPA should not be a concern, but I don't have time to look for the article right now. That said though, I had been using Avent bottles myself and then when I looked into the BPA issue and saw which bottles were "offenders", and Avent was listed on there. I switched the Sassy MAM bottles (http://www.amazon.com/Sassy-Babys-Mam-pack-Bottle/dp/B000C4Y1A4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1213960983&sr=8-1) which are BPA free. I figured better safe than sorry since I was going to bottles full-time. Avent now does makes drop-in bottles which are BPA free...

Brady That's nice that you were able to stop swaddling like that! I'll keep up with it until he starts breaking out again.
bottles those Avent drop ins require different bottles! I asked the babysitter if she could see if the Avent nipples will work with the playtex nursers - it would be nice to not have to wash bottles all the time!
Thumb sucking Wyatt has finally found his thumb & is pretty consistant with sucking it now when he wants - last night he also had the pointer finger up on his nose-so cute & I don't mind! He has never really taken a pacifier - he's always just chewing on it like he's thinking "What the heck is in my mouth??"
Lisa Did you dissapear on us? You were going to post pictures of Aaron eating!
Eliezrah
06-20-2008, 07:19 AM
Lisa- When are you giving Aaron the cereal? I'm trying to remember how I did it the first time around.. is it before the first feeding of the day? Is that the good time to start? We started his first feeding in the afternoon actually, since both our parents were here. I nursed him first to make sure he wasn't starving but I didn't want him full either. After that we were doing evenings so Scott could feed him as well.
When we went to the ped on Tues (on the 3rd day of solids) for his WBV, she said since he's so hungry and is taking it well we could go right to 2 times a day instead of waiting a month to do it!! So he now gets breakfast and dinner. I can feed him cereal before nursing and he'll still nurse, in fact he's nursing just as much as he was before the cereal! She also said that by his 6 month appt he should be eating 3 times a day! I'm also only mixing it half with breast milk and half with water for now. The first few times he didn't finish it and whatever BM was in it was wasted and I don't pump that often. If he wasn't nursing just as much, I wouldn't use water, but he's still loving the boob! LOL
We're going to try applesauce in about 1 more week. Sunday will be a week of rice cereal and usually our ped has you stick with it for about 4 weeks to gradually make it thicker and thicker until you get to the thickness of stage 1 foods, but Scott accidentally made it really thick the other night and Aaron did better with it and prefers it that way so it's already close to the stage 1 thickness!
JBB great pics! Speaking of Central Park, we're going there on the 29th to meet my best friend and her DH and DS. I know we're meeting at their apartment at 10 and then going to a store to get the fixings for a picnic and heading over to the grassy area (I know it's HUGE) to play. Her sister, BIL and niece are also joining us.
Brady, {{HUGS}} I know how hard it is knowing you have to take your little one for blood work and tests. I hope everything comes back fine.
Megan, you definitely don't want her warming up the BM in the microwave. It doesn't warm evenly and can burn him! As for the bottles, we are still using Avent and are fine with it. They say if you don't microwave them and throw them out if they get cloudy, you should be fine. We bought all new ones for Aaron.
We moved the straps up about a week ago. He is definitely more comfortable now. I can't believe we are less than three inches away from outgrowing the infant seat! Has anyone thought about what's next? What we did was buy (well with Jackie we had registered for it and got it as a gift) the convertible car seat. We moved Jackie & Seth into it, facing back of course, well before they outgrew the infant carrier. They were getting too heavy for me to carry in it and I was leaving the carrier in the car like a regular car seat so we decided why not just use the regular one. Jackie was in the Evenflo Triumph (like Brady) until we needed it for Seth then she moved to the Evenflo Generation Transitional booster and is now in a regular booster. Seth's in the Triumph now and will be until we need it for Aaron and then Seth will be in the Generations. I have a feeling Aaron will be moving to the Triumph sooner rather than later since I can't carry him even from the house to the car!!
IUD: Once AF comes back, if it makes my endo act up, I'll get Mirena.
Car seat straps: Oops! I probably should see where they are in regards to his shoulders! Thanks for reminding me! I forget what the rule is for the infant carriers... they need to be above the shoulders or below? I know it's the opposite for the bigger seats so I forget which is which. We also have the new Graco Safeseat.
Convertible car seats: Like Brady, we're VERY happy with the Evenflo. I think every one of my IRL friends used the Triumph as well. And those who didn't need it for a younger sibling still have their kids in it at 4 years old. It's just one step below the Britax but WAY cheaper.

Megan, sorry I was MIA we had a major issue yesterday where we were kicked out of a restaurant because of Seth's allergies so I spent quite a bit of time making phone calls and sending e-mails to civil rights groups and stuff filing complaints (allergies are a hidden disability by federal law so it's illegal to discriminate).

Carseat ~ I am trying to figure out whether to move the straps now or not. He is above the next slot but then he hunches down and it would definitely be above his shoulders instead of below. I will probably be moving them in the next week or so once he stops slouching. I have already started looking around for a deal on a Marathon which is what his next seat will be. Andrew is still in his and I think it has been a great investment. The snug ride is sure getting heavy but it is just so convenient!
BPA ~ I am not going crazy over this but I do only use my platex drop in bottles. I used them with DS more because it was easier clean up! You only have to wash the nipples. I feel a little bad about the fact that the insert is thrown away but he only takes 2 bottles a day and we actually use the same bottle for both feedings so I am only tossing 1 liner a day.
Ethan is a MAJOR thumb sucker. He always has his hands in his mouth. He is definitely teething now. He loves to bite on his teethers and is getting better at controlling them! He found out that his feet make fun toys today. He kept playing with them and I wouldn't be surprised if he starts sucking his toes :p

S&S My baby sitter asked me this morning if I wanted her to re-use the drop in liners and I wasn't sure, so told her to go ahead & use a new one for a new bottle. Do you wash the liners out between feedings? Do you use a clean nipple for a new bottle? I'm not quite sure what I should be doing since I'm new to the drop-ins! He takes 3 bottles a day, but we may be moving up to 4 soon!

mcgwigan ~ In our case E never seems to finish the bottle so it is put back in the fridge and I just top it up at lunch if need be. If he does finish it then I DO put in a new liner and new nipple. I kind of view it like a milk carton. If it is put back in the fridge before the milk spoils all is good. If the milk sours though into the trash it goes and of course a new nipple would be needed.

S&S Thanks! I went and got the Playtex milk storage kits today, so I can pump directly into the liners-how cool is that, I won't have to wash all those bottles all the time anymore! The baby really took to the latex nipples on the other nursers that I picked up, so I guess we'll stick with them. Thankfully I didn't buy a lot of Avent bottles, so I don't feel like I've wasted too much $$ on the whole bottle issue.
Nothing new here-Wyatt slept the whole night last night - well, 8:00 to 4:45 - Yep, we were up for the day at 4:45  but the first nap was from 6:30 to 8:00 & I made sure I got in on that one!:p It was funny, because I got up at 4:30 to pump - my right side wasn't too bad, but the left felt like it was going to split open! I pumped just enough to ease the pressure (which turned out to be 3oz) then he woke up-just figures:rolleyes:. Tonight I'm trying no swaddle - it's kind of warm in the house, but I don't want to turn the air on, so I just put him in light PJ's. So far he's been asleep for about 45 minutes- I'm thinking he would have already woken up if he was going to.

Megan, that's great about the sleeping!
MAJOR coinky dink here but guess who's been sleeping about 7 hours each night since he turned 4 months old 9and started cereal)?! I mean the exact same day! Weird!!!! But I'm not complaining! Of course his second stretch of the night is 3 hours so it's 7:30pm, 2:30 am and then 6ish, but hey it's better than it was!!! He also seems to have about 1 nap per day that's 1-2 hours now. The rest are still 40 mins to the second, but his sleep is getting way better!!!!!!

06-22-2008, 09:08 AM
I'm so so frustrated. We are having major sleep issues in this house. Last night he didn't fall asleep until almost 8:30 and he was up at 10:30, 12:00-2:30, 4:30, 6. When I say he was up I mean he was screaming bloody murder. I fed him at 12 and put him down by 12:30 he was screaming at the top of his lungs until 1:30. I finally got him to sleep around 2 but he woke up 15 minutes later still screaming. The issue is swaddling. If we don't swaddle him he wakes himself up, if we do (that is if he lets us) he falls asleep and then eventually fights his way out of it and wakes up screaming. I'm at a total loss. I don't have a problem CIO but seriously after an hour of full volume yelling and crying he was showing no signs of letting up. He stops after I go in and soothe him so I know nothing is seriously wrong. Do I let him scream for hours on end?
I'm sorry I just had to vent. I'm really happy to hear you guys are getting more sleep!

la_Mer I think someone in the sleep thread said she sewed the arms of a sleep blanket to the body of it - maybe that would work?? I know it wouldn't be as tight as a swaddle, but maybe? Could he be teething? i hope your sleep improves soon - it didn't work for me to not swaddle last night-he woke up around 1:00 - usually he goes longer-2 or 3, so I'm thinking it was either the lack of a swaddle or he was too warm (DH had shut off the ceiling fan). I swaddled him when he woke up at that first time and he slept til 5:30-I didn't want to get back up in a couple hours because I didn't swaddle him!
Sashi
06-22-2008, 07:20 PM
LaMer - I swear it gets better. We had the same issue for about 1.5 weeks. It's over now. It takes some time for him to get asleep now but he does it. And he hates to be swaddled. Try putting him down on his side, that's when Ollie falls right asleep and stays asleep. Also, someone did mention that they put them in a sleep sack and just didn't put his arms through the arm slots so it gave the illusion of swaddling but with room to maneuver himself. Good luck and I sympathize with you!
We are doing very well. We always have great weekends and I'm worried that he is going to have a bad Monday at daycare like last weekend. It seems like he misses us and takes time to get adjusted on Mondays.
Do you all remember me telling you my close friend had identical twin girls last August? They are going to be 1 in August (time just flies!) and I just bought them part of their present. Angel Babes Tutus (http://angelbabestutus.com/index.htm) has very affordable prices for tutu's IMO and I got one in 4 shades of purple and one in 4 shades of pink. I'm so excited to get them and see the girls. They are so big and I feel like I don't even know them. I also bought them trumpette ballerina socks in purple and pink to match.

I'm pretty behind in shout outs but I'll get a few out.
mcgwigan ~ glad Wyatt slept the whole night, I'll keep my fingers crossed it continues.
Lisa ~ glad Aaron sleep for 7 hours, seems like the cereal is helping with sleep.
la_Mer ~ sorry Leo's having issues with sleep. Could he be going through a growth spurt? As far as the teething, is he sticking things in his mouth? Chewing on his hand? Drooling a lot? Is he fussy during the day? These are things I noticed with Addison and I know she's teething. If you think it's teething, honestly I give Addison some Tylenol in the AM and it seems to help her, I usually don't give it to the rest of the day. Now this weekend she got it once in the AM and once in the PM because we were visiting ILs and I didn't want her really screaming like she does at home. But as soon as we walked into our house she screamed for almost an hour. She wasn't due to eat for an hour so she got her bottle and food early. That helped her then I took her for a walk and gave her a bath.
Sashi ~ those tutus are so cute.
me ~ Addison turned 5 months old last Saturday! I can't believe it. We're still dealing with the major fussiness and teething, I really can't wait for this tooth to come through. I can tell DH is getting frustrated again with her crying. I took Addison to my ILs and to see her great-Grammy, DH didn’t go. Great-Grammy was very happy to see her. All in all, Addison did pretty good this weekend only cried when she was tired and when we walked into the door of our house. I think she doesn't like our house. I'm going to be selling my jumperoo at the next neighborhood yard sale and I'm going to have my mom pick me up an exersaucer at a yard sale, she got one last year and it looked brand new. I know Addison likes the jumperoo but she gets bored and I can tell she looking for something to do and she tries to turn in it like the exersaucer so I'm getting that instead of the jumperoo.
We're getting ready for vacation in July, I've already bought her an inflatable tub and a travel high chair (but I found out my mom has one I can use so I'll take this one to the ILs because she'll need something for there). I think we are going to rent a crib, originally we were going to buy a portable crib or have her sleep in the pack n play and she sleeps in the pack n play all night long but it's small. She woke up once Saturday night because she couldn't turn all the way over and got stuck so I got up and pushed her the rest of the way over. The place I found also rents toys like an exersaucer so I'm going to rent that also plus this way I'm not bringing a lot of bulky items with us, which we don't have room for in my Jeep. My MIL will bring the pack n play and we'll keep that downstairs because I think she's going to be crawling soon so we'll need a place to keep her safe.

Thanks for the sympathy everyone. It was a rough weekend but I'm happy to report that last night was A LOT better. He still woke up screaming several times, but it wasn't the constant crying of the previous nights. He stopped after about 20 mins. I've learned that 20 mins is about my tolerance for listening to him cry without getting terribly upset myself. I think this was a "perfect" storm of events. We had a real heatwave this weekend. I was sort of joking with my "It was 70!" before although it is rare that it gets out of the 60s during the summer. It was actually in the 90s this weekend, and air conditioning is practically unheard of out here. So it was hot, we couldn't swaddle him, he has a cold, AND I'm pretty sure he's teething. Fun Times!
He is also consistently rolling over from back to tummy now. He doesn't really go the other way, which is funny considering he did that first. Every time we put him on his back he eventually ends up on his tummy playing with his toys.
mcgwigan I think he is finally getting used to not being swaddled. For the past week or so I would try to reswaddle him in the middle of the night thinking I would at least get to sleep for a few hours. But he escaped every time and I would end up getting up to reswaddle every hour or so. If I could go back in time I would try to get him used to not swaddling before we got to this point where he always breaks free. I just heard so many people say they swaddled until 7 months or so, but they didn't have 17 lbs 4 month olds!
Sashi Thanks for the suggestions. I actually have started putting him down for naps on his side and it seems to be working! Now that he has been spending so much time on his belly I'm not too worried about side/tummy sleeping.
DelSol Yes, I definitely think he is teething. He has been trying to chew on everything, including our fingers. Have fun on your vacation. That is a great idea about renting baby gear. We are taking our first vacation next week too, fortunately we are meeting friends who have a lot of what we need, but I might look into it too. We tried to put Leo in a jumperoo and he really didn't like it. I think Addison will LOVE an excersaucer.
Lisa Yes I see the light at the end of the sleepless tunnel! For a few days there I felt like I had a newborn again, and I was questioning whether I could do it again, LOL. YAY for Seth, I bet it will be nice only having one kid in diapers.

Sounds like there's been a lot going on, which would explain the sleep troubles. Hmmm, only 1 kid in diapers, I don't remember what that's like! LOL

LaMer - That's how Oliver eased into sleeping well without the swaddle. At naptime during daycare they would lay him on his side (propped up on the side of the crib with blankets in between. He slept well like that, better and better each day. I think it eases them in to rolling over during their sleep or sleeping on their bellies. I have the cutest piccture of Oliver to share when i get the chance. I walked in to get him this morning and he was sleeping on his belly with his head on his hands, soooo cute!

LaMer- Glad it's getting better, like I said here- that was how we had to stop swaddling, during the last heatwave here! ;) Are you on the coast in CA? My older son started sleeping really well once he rolled onto his tummy for bedtime, maybe that will do the trick for Leo!
Lisa- I'm so amazed that Aaron has taken so well to his rice cereal! Drew hates hates hates it. lol. I'll try a couple more times and if he is still not having it, then I'll just hold off until 6 months and go right into the "good" stuff. :) Great news about Seth also!
DelSol- Have a great vacation! How nice that you can rent all that stuff while you are there!
(that's all I can see on this page for replies, lol...)
As for us, I am just at a loss with the whole nap issue here! I can't understand why his little head is programmed to wake up after exactly 45 minutes... he wakes up still tired and I feel like I spend half the day putting him down for a nap. He's up for like 2 hours, sleeps for 45 minutes, repeat repeat repeat. He is doing great sleeping at night, so I really feel like I shouldn't complain, but it's so hard to get anything done around the house during the day and it seems as soon as I start to get into some type of project with my older son, he's awake- which is leading to a lot of "I want Drew to go back in your belly!" eeks.. I know I was the one who posted about naps getting better around the 6 month mark, so I really hope that holds true for us over here. Other than that, things are good- he rolled over belly to back on Sunday and today was like 95% there for back to belly, his little arm was stuck... so I expect he'll get there some point this week! I love just watching him try though, I think it's just the cutest thing how they just keep going and going until they finally get it.

Brady We pretty much have the same nap issue - he sleeps great at night - goes to sleep easily around 8, wakes up ususally around 2 or 3 then sleeps til 5:30 or so. Naps - he'll be tired, but fight sleep, when I do get him to sleep, he usually only sleeps for 30 minutes. I just told my SIL that it seems like my weekends are spent trying to get him to nap! I keep experimenting with different things. On Sunday he actually slept for an hour in his crib swaddled - then when he woke up, I nursed him & laid down with him in my be for about 45 minutes and then he still slept for about 45 minutes after I got up- it ended up being about a 2 1/2 hour nap & I was shocked!!
Rolling Can't remember if I mentioned it, but he rolled a bunch of times from stomach to back & now he hasn't done it for over a week! He has also stopped spinning around in his crib-although he was trying to do that in the pac-n-play over the weekend, but couldn't because there wasn't enough room. I think maybe he's just trying to stay little for me (LOL):p

Brady, naps are pretty much like that around here as well... Sleep for 45 mins and go down for the next nap 2 hours later. We have been getting 1 nap on most (not all) days that lasts 1-2 hours but it's not an every day thing yet. Last night his sleep was HORRIBLE though... He was up every 20 mins practically... We think he was congested, though. Oh yeah, and we started applesauce already and he DEVOURS it!!!! We were making the cereal thicker than the applesauce is and the week of trying a new food (rice) had passed so we tried it and he goes to town!!!
Megan, I'm sure he'll roll again soon. Aaron also spins in his crib. He usually ends up with his feet where his head was!
OT again... Sethy might be fully day trained before the summer is out, if not sooner!!! He went to camp today (I made it through his 4 hours with losing it! LOL) and he said he went pee pee twice and asked twice to go since we've been home... and this was with a pull up!!
Back to our regularly scheduled convo about our 4-5 month olds!

Lisa Jeepers-what's up with that?? Hope you get over it for good this time! I had to get up to pump last night at 2:30 & went back to bed at 2:45, just to have Wyatt wake up at 3:00 and decide that it was a fine time to play after he ate. I couldn't get him back down til 4:30!! I bet Aaron likes applesauce! Yay! I have a hard time with the rice cereal becuase of timing issues - seems like Wyatt gets tired by about 6:00 and starts getting cranky and does not want to try cereal then. Last night he started out well, opened his mouth wide for a cuople bites, then decided that it was cranky time, so that was the end of that! Tonight I'm hoping DH gets home earlier & can try giving it to him while I'm making dinner! I would like to try something with more flavor, but want to make sure that he has the rice down consistantly first!

Megan, I have no clue but I feel like total and complete $h!t right now! :(:( The doc gave me a stronger antibiotic this time, so hopefully that helps. And I just got over the yeast infection I got from the last round!
I can't get up to pump. I need my sleep when I can get it, so my boobs are trying to adjust to Aaron's longer stretches as night. I don't mind pumping in the morning, when I have time. I do need to make sure to get another 10 ounces pumped before Friday, though. I'm having a Mommy Sleepover with some of my friends. We rented 2 adjoining rooms at a hotel for the night!
Aaron is sooo into his food that when he saw me eating lunch yesterday, he leaned forward and opened his mouth like he wanted me to feed him! Twice a day isn't enough for my piggy!!! We NEVER put the other 2 on twice a day immediately before, but the ped suggested it and she was right! We also never moved off rice cereal so quickly before either, but the other 2 took a bit longer to work up to the right thickness. I had to play around with the timing at first as well. Breakfast is easy. I nurse him upstairs and once we're all down here and dressed and the big kids are eating, I feed Aaron. Dinner he now seems to wake up in time for, as if he knows, and we feed him while we eat. Last night, he didn't let Scott take bites of his own food in between, he kept fussing for his food! LOL

Lisa A mommy sleep over sounds fun! I only get up to pump if it's unbearable & I can't get back to sleep! I figure it's better to get up & pump a couple oz and be able to get back to sleep -plus it makes up if I miss a pumping session at work, or have some crappy ones!
I have to be able to send at least 3 5oz bottles everyday and I have been upping them to 6oz since he has seemed hungry these past 2 weeks. He's now into trying to suck my face or shoulder off once he's done nursing - I can't figure out if he wants more to eat or comfort suck to sleep! He has been nursing pretty quickly lately, but tonight he went for 20 minutes on a side then 15 minutes on the other & I was the one that ended it! I played with him a bit after that before his bath, so it was only an hour later that he was nursing again before bed-I tried giving him a bottle because I was thinking that he wanted more to eat, but he'd have none of it! I also noticed these past couple days that he has seemed to have a stronger suck than he has in the past AND he's also very fidgety while he's nursing- I have no idea what to make of it. He doesn't cry or anything like he's frustrated that he's not getting enough.

What kills me about the napping here is that he goes down so easily! All he needs is his pacifier and for me to rock and stroke his face for like 2 minutes and he is out cold. Now if he could only STAY asleep longer than the 30-45 minutes that he did today like 5 times. It's amazing because even if we are out and in motion, he will still wake after 45 minutes.. I thought maybe the motion would keep him asleep. I guess those good ol' days are over. ;)
Megan- Drew is bottle fed, but went through a very similar stage like that. He was just playing with the bottle in his mouth and trying to chew on it while fidgeting around. He did it for about a week, and is now back to just sucking it down in like 5 minutes.. he is a little piggy.
Gotta run, my older son is screaming to me from his bedroom. Bedtime is so much fun around here!! :) Seriously, enjoy the baby stage! lol.
I've had the week from hell and figured I'd come in here an get some much needed sympathy. It's hopefully going to get better (it certainly can't get worse). Here goes:
1. Last weekend I had our new house painted before we moved in. Had planned for months which room would be DS's (the bigger one, with bigger closet) and which one would be Emma's (smaller with smaller closet). At last minute changed them and am not sure why, giving him the smaller room and painting the rooms blue and pink, respectively.
2. Monday: had furniture delivered that we'd bought on Sunday. Got home late and was VERY tired, but went ok.
3. Tuesday: on call. Went into it tired and only slept two 1-hour naps that whole night. Left 7 am Wed to go home and move.
4. Wed: Movers came. Took all day, didn't get to nap at all (and only got to pump once). Noted that DS's room was REALLY crowded (he has twin bed, couch, chair, etc), but couldn't do much about it at that point. Refrigerator gets delivered at 10:30 pm and it's the wrong one.
5. Thurs: Went to work in morning, then had workers at the house so again couldn't nap. At this point am so tired I can barely function. Wanted to get DS's room set up, so put together stupid small Ikea dresser so would have a place to put his clothes (and change him on, although he's almost potty trained and we don't really use a changing table). Because room so small, put it next to his bed.
6. Fri: Went to work, found out that there has been a rumor going around for almost 2 weeks that I had slept with someone who works under me (a resident). I was shocked and sooo upset and embarrassed that people would think that. When I finally piece together the details, I figure out it was totally mistaken identity. Called as many people as I could to debunk the rumor (the guy involved also called everyone to tell them it wasn't me -- and that he wasn't doing anything with the girl who it was. I'm not so sure about that, but I don't really care as long as people know it wasn't me). That night we had our department graduation dinner. DH couldn't come because he was stuck operating and was also on call. Went out dancing and had a great time, got home around 12 (my mom was in town watching the kids). Woken up by him getting home around 1 something, hear him on phone with hospital. His pager goes off around 2, he goes back to sleep. Phone rings around 2:45 (hospital calling because he didn't answer his page). At 3 hear DS screaming...he sliced his nose open on that stupid dresser in the middle of the night. We spent the rest of the night in the ER and he got 5 stitches across his nose. DH was SOOOO angry at me, you wouldn't believe. Saturday I still didn't get any sleep. Had new fridge delivered, only discover at 10 pm that it doesn't work and hasn't gotten cold at all. Luckily still have apartment so run over there with my precious breastmilk and other stuff so doesn't go bad. Hubby still not really speaking to me. DS ok, by the way. Sunday go to Lowes to pick out new fridge. Hubby and I make up. Yesterday at work I couldn't stop crying everytime I thought about how stupid I was and why I switched the rooms in the first place. Left work early, totally a mess. Around 4 pm, started getting hives all over my body! My friend who's a dermatologist told me to take Benadryl and Zyrtec, and they're better today. Spent today at home with painters, switching blue and pink rooms, but now I'm on call again, and DH is texting me that both kids are crying and sleeping in our room because of the paint smell. Oh, and I have to work tomorrow post-call (that's why I had today off).
Sigh. I realize I took on too much by myself (not by choice, mind you) with this whole move, and shouldn't have done it while trying to work. I'm still beating myself up about the rooms and DS's injury but am starting to feel a tiny bit better. It's going to be a bad scar and we'll have to try to keep it out of the sun all summer which will be tough. Well, I guess I can write about it without crying so I must be better. Sorry to ramble on like this. I just can't believe what a horrible and exhausting week I just had.
Emma has her 4 month appt on Thurs (she was 4 months this past Friday) and I'm seeing a new pediatrician. Hopefully all will go well!
Send me some hugs...I need them!!!

pgbg {{{{HUGS}}}}!!!!! Ugh! I don't see how you can go so long with barely any sleep!! I'm sure it will all be better once you have the rooms switched back to what you were originally going to do. I can not believe what you had to go through with your fridge either - it has to get better! Hopefully your DS scar won't be too bad - I think all kids end up with one during childhood no matter what we try to do to prevent it. DSS has one by his eye from hitting his head on the coffee table while jumping on the couch:rolleyes:. It will at least get smaller as he grows. I hope you have a better week & get some sleep!!

pgbg ~ (((HUGS))) you have a lot going on. I hope you can get some rest. I'm glad your DS is ok.
Brady ~ naps are hard with us also. Addison will nap max 45 minutes but only does it 2x a day maybe 3.
Lisa ~ I hope you feel better. I'm glad Aaron is liking his food. Yeah for Seth almost being potty trained, it's a big accomplishment!
la_Mer ~ glad to hear it was a lot better the other night.
me ~ Our vacation isn't until 7/18 but I'm trying to get as much done as I can now because every weekend in July is booked between us going to a concert, the holiday, my niece's b-day party and then vacation, it doesn't leave me for much time. Plus Addison goes to bed early so I can't usually run out after work unless I wait until she goes to sleep and then I go food shopping or to Target, never make to Babies R Us during the week.
I'm happy we can rent those items for our vacation. I'm waiting to hear from MIL who called the lady we rent the townhouse from to see if she knows of any other places.
Addison got 2 shots yesterday and seemed to be doing ok with them.

I hope I can go to the Mommy Sleepover tomorrow. If I had to decide today, I wouldn't go since I still feel horrible. :(
Aaron's had 2 VERY bad nights with waking up crying every hour (of course it was the 2 nights I felt the worst and needed the most sleep!). We figured out last night that the rice cereal is probably causing him to have a normal poop and it was hurting his tummy. Usually he poops about once a week and my dad calls it a mud slide. It's lose, messy, gets all over the place and is very loose. We decided to hold off on the rice for now and just give applesauce (we're moving on to carrots this weekend, yes I'll post pics! LOL) to give his belly a rest. Lo and behold, he pooped this morning. It was WAY thicker than usual and I could tell from his face that it wasn't easy to get out. We'll see how he sleeps tonight!
pgbg, {{{HUGS}}}} OMG are things a bit calmer now? I hope so. How is DS feeling? Try your best (I know, easier said than done) to take things slow and do what HAS to be done first. Some stuff can wait! {{HUGS}}
Dana, you seem busy as well! {{HUGS}}

elie Poor Aaron! I hope he's able to sleep better tonight! I'm surprised that the apples didn't help!
I made the rice cereal just a little thicker last night for Wyatt and he did much better with it - before it was very soupy and he was basically just blowing razzberries with it!! He only eats a little at a time though-I'm not going to add other foods for a while.
Wyatt was up twice last night-so I'm really tired today because I laid down with him on the couch at 4 and didn't really get back to sleep.
I'm pretty slammed at work and one of my co-workers/friends has a beef with me for lightening her work load while she was out of the office. Geesh!

Megan, she's upset with you for HELPING her? Did I read that right? Not giving Aaron the rice cereal today helped big time... We just had poop #2 today and he's had LOTS of gas and seems much happier! I think he was eating more rice than apples and that's probably why the apples didn't help until I stopped the cereal. Once we get back to it, we'll give him less.

Megan, she's upset with you for HELPING her?
Yep! And it was permanent help as in - now you have 775 customers to take care of rather than 995 - which is way less than anyone else here btw! Ugh! I asked her if she wanted the load back and she laughed & said no- then why complain!? I'm too tired to deal with pettiness today. She was upset because it should have been decided by the enitre dept and she wasn't here to have a say because I went ahead and said OK-do it then & now. Oh, well-she's fine now. I'm just grumpy because I'm tired. I just got back from seeing Wyatt so that cheered me up!

Lisa ~ glad Aaron is now feeling better.
mcgwigan ~ I would have been happy someone lightened my load at work. Pettiness is very unnerving!
My dilemma:
MIL called me and said she was talking to her "old lady friends" and they said if Addison can sleep in the pack n play all night long than don't rent the crib but still rent the exersaucer because she'll need to something to play with. She's leaving it up to me. So now I'm at a loss as to what to do, I want to rent the crib and I think I'm just going to say I'm renting the crib. She's worried about if it's a good crib, everything I read on their website says it's new so I said to her if I don't like or feel it's unsafe for her I can always refuse the crib.
What would you do? Rent it or let your child sleep in the pack n play. BTW the pack n play was going to but downstairs to keep her safe while we were inside now if I don't rent the crib the pack n play will be in my bedroom on the 2nd floor, I'm not dragging up and down every time we want to use it downstairs. It will cost $45 for the crib for the whole week, I'll verify prices when I go to rent it.

Dana: If you would feel better with the crib, get it. It sounds like that's really what you want to do. I personally would be okay with the pack and play, but that's because Kassidy still sleeps in hers. And she's not rolling, so we can put her on the floor on a blanket and she won't go anywhere.
Megan: Get some sleep! I can't believe that lady at work! You should tell her at least you didn't increase her workload!
Lisa: I hope stopping the cereal helps Aaron feel better!
pgbg: I'm so sorry you've had such a rough week! {{{HUGS}}} Hopefully things will get better! I, too don't know how you survive on such little sleep!
Brady: I don't know what it is about the cat naps. Kassidy's are usually not more than 30 minutes, unless I sleep with her or let her sleep on me. Then she can sleep for an hour and a half. It sort of defeats the purpose of me getting things done while she's napping though if I have to nap with her!
Is anyone else's baby not rolling yet? We do tummy time religiously and a lot and she just has no interest. From her back she'll roll to her side, but won't go all the way over. From her tummy, she just lays there and plays.
I had an ob/gyn appointment on Monday. She said I have some granulation tissue that she had to burn off with silver nitrate. I swear with me if it's not one thing, it's another. I have an appointment to have my IUD inserted in 2 1/2 weeks!
Quick post to share my misery...today DS felt a bit warm when I woke him up, but I thought maybe it was just hot in his room and he was wearing a lot of jammies. Then he was cranky and tired when I dropped him off but that's not totally unusual. I got called around 8:30 that all he wanted to do was sleep, then I called back a half hour later and he was sleeping and had a temp 100.4. I got there and he was sleeping while the rest of his class played, which was really weird. He was ok in the car, but we got home and although he did eat a bit he said he just wanted to go to bed and slept for 2 hrs. Then he woke up, played a bit but didn't really eat and went back to sleep. Now, I had Emma's 4 month appt today so called to see if I could bring him. Anyway, he was totally sleepy and cranky the whole time, but she didn't find anything. His stitches are healing ok, no infection, and no ear infection or anything. We got labs drawn (poor thing -- he kept saying how Emma was getting shots and not him!) and they also wanted a urine sample which I was amazed that I got (he's pretty much potty trained for pee during the day). She called me later that everything looked ok except he's a bit dehydrated. He's staying home tomorrow with our babysitter, but tonight he actually started to perk up and seemed a bit better.
Sorry to vent. I never really joined the Sept mommies thread so just post here! Meanwhile, I should post Emma's stats but don't have them all handy. I do remember she's around 12 lbs 9 oz (23rd percentile) and around 25 inches (78th percentile). She must be the smallest baby here! The ped said I could start rice cereal if I want, although she already sleeps 11 hrs straight at night! I know she gets four 6 oz bottles during the day (and then I feed her in the evening) so some food might do her good. I also finally got to see her roll both ways today! Daycare told me she'd done back to front but I'd never seen it.
Oh and Lisa, my husband totally doesn't agree that stuff can wait. It was the same thing when the babies were both born -- he doesn't believe in survival mode and wanted everything to be status quo. Now he's all pissed off at me because we still have tons of boxes and garbage lying around and wants to have people over tomorrow. Sigh. Things are really tough.
Better go.

Kristi ~ I'm going to rent the crib. Addison rolls everywhere. While I know she can sleep in the pack n play, I feel better if she's in the crib at night, more room for her to move around and not get stuck. I'll be bringing my own sheets, crib pad and m
