Gah...Taz...Adele looks so stinking cute in that hat!!

You got me, Liz. Thanks for starting the new thread. I nearly missed it!!!

LIZNKEITH
03-22-2008, 07:22 AM
Awwww....I love seeing all these babies!

Sorry, mkvh! Man, I hope nobody is having a difficult time finding their way here.

Mama,
Love the baptism pictures from the last thread. You've got a beautiful family!

Bedtime Routine
We're pretty loose. I usually just change her in to her pajamas and night diaper, swaddle her in her Miracle Blanket, nurse her, and lay her down in her crib awake. Sometimes she cries, but it never lasts longer than 10 minutes. She usually goes down around 8 or 9 and sleeps until 1. She's usually up again to eat around 5, and then up for the day at 8.

Us
We are in deep trouble. We've been offering Megan a bottle periodically, having her last bottle only 2 weeks ago. She took it without a fuss. Keith and I went out Thursday night and she refused the bottle for my Mom. We thought maybe she wasn't hungry, so we let it go and Keith tried again later when she got fussy. She refused again and went in to a total fit until I put her to the breast.

We tried again yesterday and same story.

I go back to work in 2 weeks. I'm so afraid she's going to go on a hunger strike. Keith and I have decided we'll just keep offering a bottle everyday between now and then. Does anyone else have any suggestions? I've been having DH give her the bottle because I remember reading BF'ed babies will often refuse a bottle from their Moms.

mkvh - thanks, its one of my favorite pictures of her!

Ladies, I need some help! :( I posted this in the breastfeeding thread and lotsahaircrazy had a suggestion but I'm wondering if anyone else can help. Adele has gotten into this really bad sleep pattern. I'll nurse her in front of the TV in the evening, letting her comfort suck if she's not actually eating and around 10pm she finally falls asleep (before this her last nap is usually in the 2-4 time frame for ~30 minutes). So at 10 she'll sleep for ~45 minutes and then wake up. I'll feed her again for 30-90 minutes in the recliner in her room in near darkness and then put her back down. The last few nights we've had to let her CIO just b/c we're at wits end. She'll then sleep for 3-5 hours wake up, eat and then again won't go back to sleep. So I end up feeding her and sleeping with her in the recliner in her room. I have no idea what to do, until about 10 days ago she was consistently sleeping from 9 or 10 until 4-7. Anyone?

I wish I had some suggestions for you.... It sounds like she wants to nurse to sleep. Cate does that too--She does a lot of things Adele does.

She'll eat every 1.5 hours from about 7pm on and around 11 will expect to be nursed to sleep. Then, she'll sleep til 6:00. For whatever reason, I can't get her to sleep on her own any other way - except during the day.

Can you stop the comfort sucking? Does she take a pacifier? It helps Cate a lot since she likes to comfort suck too....but as soon as she's hungry we know it. As much as I hate having such a late bedtime for her, I love the 11 to 5 or 6 sleep I get most nights - especially with going back to work in a week. It seems like when I let her "tank up" she sleeps well - when I don't she wakes around 2-4.

What nipple flow are you BF moms using for bottles of EBM? I stupidly bought some and washed them without paying attention to the flow - and bought fast flow. I have a slow flow nipple and I know Cate's done well with it - but honestly, when I sucked on each bottle it didn't seem like that much of a difference to me..

Hey, Terpsfan!

Taz,
Hmmm...how frequently is she eating during the day? I do know that BF babies tend to nurse more frequently during the later afternoon/evening as that's when our supply is at it's lowest. Like Ali said, maybe she's just tanking up for the night? Is it possible to nurse her more frequently earlier in the evening in hopes of rescheduling her "clock". Also, I found my DD was super cranky and at the breast constantly from about 10pm to midnight or 1 for the longest time. I finally started putting her to ped around 9:00 and she hasn't done it since. I think a lot of babies get overtired and nursing is the one way they cope with it. If I would have tried to let her CIO at that time, she would have screamed for hours, I'm sure. But now that I've been trying to catch her sleepy signs early, I nurse her and lay her down immediately. Most times she'll go off without even fussing but sometimes she may cry for 5-10 minutes.

Nipples- The Bottle Kind
We're using Born Free bottles and I've been using the slower flow 0-3 month nipple up until yesterday. Our of desperation, I popped in one of the 3 month + nipples thinking maybe she was refusing the bottle because the flow was too slow (I have a forceful letdown). That didn't help either.
Don't worry, even if she doesn't take them now, Ali, in another few months you'll need the faster flow. I remember C's suck got so strong she was sucking holes through her nipples.

Yay for the new thread. Looking forward to getting to know all the Dec. Moms and babies! Our group was so small!

LIZ Have you considered trying the Adiri bottles?? A couple of the moms in the Mommy group I go to could only get their babies to take those. I need to start giving William some bottles. I'm afraid he may raise a fuss this week when we go out for our anniversary.

Ali I bought Slow flow. Dunno if it really is a whole lot different though.

Taz- Eeeh. Wish I could help you. William does the same thing. Occasionally I can get him to sleep with just the pacifier though.

So....I'm thinking of attempting cloth diapering.... I've been lurking around the CD thread when I get a chance...but that isn't often. DH is kind of wary of starting this though. Which is funny because before William was born he was dead set on CDing and I was the one that said no.

Will have to post stats later - Eden's screaming and the big girls are refusing naps. But wanted to pop in to subscribe.

Karen,
I haven't heard about those yet. I'll definitely look in to them if I can't get her to take one in the next few days. The little bugger...she took one fine 2 weeks ago.

WOO HOO! Come over on to the dark side (I need a little devil smiley). Keith and I were the same way: he suggested CDing when I was pregnant with C and I think I looked at him like he had a second nose. But then 2 years later I say to him, "What would you think about CDing" (forgetting it was once his idea). I love it!! There 's a couple of us in this thread that I know do CD (lil geek, gelfnrach anyone else...?). If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. But let me warn you, you are about to start a habit more addicting than crack.

Sonya,
Ouch...hope everyone finally went to sleep for you.

Taz--I would bet that part of Adele's issue is that she's overly tired and having a hard time settling down. At this point, our babes need to keep their periods of wakefulness to no more than 2 hours (Yes, I'm a HSHHC junkie, but it's TRUE!). You should find that as she gets more rested during the day, her night sleep is better. Oh...and we nurse pretty much all evening!

Paci--G FINALLY is starting to take it. Crazy. It's because of MIL. Fine by me. My nips are over it :)

Nipples--We do Playtex Nursers slow flow. I've never tried the fast ones; DD1 used slow flow till she switched completely to sippies at 10m.

Taking the bottle--My GF's daycare said not to worry--that they're much better at getting babies to take bottles than we are 'cause they deal with it every day. Hopefully that's the case with Megan, Liz!

US: G is driving me a bit nuts. The kid has been nursing every 2 hours for about 5 days now, and I'm about over the edge. I broke down crying today because all I want is to eat WHATEVER I WANT. Cut me some slack, tho, because DH left me alone with both girls at HIS family Easter celebration yesterday. I'm beat! :)

I did indulge on our anniversary date last week and ate whatever I wanted. G has been miserable for 2 days. So I'm definitely back to no dairy/eggs/peanuts/peanut butter for the foreseeable future.

Easter was good. I didn't get very many pics of the girls, though, and I still need to download. Hope all of you who celebrate are having a great day!

mkvh - I totally agree, I try to follow HSHHC as much as possible. She'll nap great until she wakes around 4-5pm and then she won't nap again and won't go down until somewhere in the 9-12 time frame. So she does great with the 2 hour time frames before that. Last night she'd been down for 2 1/2, up for 1, down for 1, and then I soothed her and let her cry herself back to sleep instead of getting her up. She then slept for 2 1/2 so thats a little better but still not great. I'm half tempted to bottle feed her in the evenings so that I know how much she's getting so that I know she's full when I put her down. We'll keep trying!

I hear you on the wanting to eat whatever you want, I've slowly been introducing dairy again and so far so good but I still haven't had a tall cold glass of milk which I just crave. :(

jeneca128 - we CD, we use the OS BumGenius' and LOVE them. I have about 30 and I wash every 3-4 days. We use sposies when we travel but otherwise we're all CD.

Happy Easter everyone!

Liz Hopefully she'll take a bottle for you soon. I like how those Adiri bottles are designed, but they are definitely not cheap. I let DH give William a bottle yesterday and he took it right away thank goodness.

I can already see myself getting addicted to CDs. Hopefully I can keep the spending under control. I really want to get a stash of BG 3.0's.

Taz- That is what I'm looking into doing. I'm really drawn to the idea of using the BGOS , and I think those might be easiest for DH. Not to mention that I love the fact that he can wear them practically forever.

For all of you CDing mommas- What is you wash routine like?? Do you store the BGOS in a dry pail?

I asked a couple of the moms at the group I attend about CD's and they mostly use G diapers, but just lay CPF's in them instead of the flushable inserts. I picked up a starter pack of those just to give it a try and I like them, but....... what do you do about the newborn breastfeed poo?? I can't really shake it off into the toilet and swishing it around really didn't dislodge much of it. I'm still liking the idea of CD's but I'm really lost on the whole care and washing portion of it.

mkvh,
I hope your friend is right. Still no success with the bottle. We're trying again in a few minutes. Wish us luck!

Karen,
You and your DH will love the BG OS. We use them on Caroline (the 2.0's) and have started supplementing our stash for Megan with some 3.0's. They're so easy to use, DH will love them. I love that they are so versatile, too. As the babe gets older, you can add more inserts as needed. We currently have to use THREE inserts on Caroline at night.

CD Washing-
EBF diapers are easy. Just throw them in the dry pail and try to wash every 2-3 days. No need to prerinse or shake off because their is really nothing to it and it doesn't stink. Once you start adding solids, you may want to invest in flushable liners or a diaper sprayer. But, you can always shake and swish, too. We use a sprayer for Caroline. The BG's microfleece is great...I get very few stains on them. When I do, I just lay them clean diaper out in the sun for a little while and it really makes it disappear. As far as washing, I just use Publix brand Free and Clear detergent (same as I use on our clothes). We have an HE machine, so I press all kinds of buttons: extra water, pre-wash, and extra rinse. I set it for hot wash/cold rinse and heavily solied. With Caroline's, once a month or so I'll add a little bleach to the wash as toddler pee can be pretty stinky. I find that brightens the diapers up and cleans them up no problem. It's really so easy, but you may find you have to experiment a little at first to find what works for your water.

Happy Easter, everyone!
We've been up since 6:30. I'm exhausted. Did early mass, an egg hunt and brunch here at the house. Both girls cooperated though and let me take a 1.5 hour nap. Thank goodness!

Taz--ICK! Sorry that I told you something you already knew :( I'm at a loss. It WOULD be an interesting experiment to see what she does if you give her a bottle of EBM in the evening!

Flat spots--Anyone else starting to notice them? G is starting to get one slightly toward her left ear from the middle of the back of her head. Just to the side of where she's worn off all her hair... I know it will most likely go away, but anyone have any good strategies for minimizing?

Forgot to add this earlier:
2 month wbv: 15lb 12oz, 25"

Taking a bottle: We were bound and determined to be more on top of this with Max b/c we weren't w/ Noa and it was a nightmare. So we started giving him a bottle of EBM at about 3wks of age and all was going well at first. We'd give him a bottle every-other-night or so. Then, slowly he started becoming less and less fond of it and just Saturday was the first time he flat out refused it hour after hour (with me not nursing him). It is such a point of anxiety/stress in our home (Max crying and Dh is very impatient) that I've told Dh that I'm okay w/ him not taking a bottle. So I think we're just going to stop trying. Granted, I can do that since I SAH. I have an all-day conference to attend on Saturday and guess who'll be coming with me hanging out in the stroller b/c he can't stay w/ grandma and take a bottle:rolleyes:

I'll go ahead and share my story of getting Noa to take a bottle since I think it comes to this for many babies. I researched the internet and tried EVERY suggestion out there. We tried every nipple on the market, even the bottle shaped like a big boob. Nothing worked. Then when she was 3.5 mos old I had to go into the hospital for outpatient surgery so I obviously wasn't going to be there to bf her. Stinker held out more than 7 hrs before she took a bottle but the key was that she got hungry enough. And she took a bottle every day since then too. Bottom line is that every bfed baby *can* take a bottle, it's truly just a battle of wills.

mkvh - I appreciate the affirmation and knowing that others are trying what we're trying. Last night was MUCH better, I think part of it was sticking with the 6pm nap until she FINALLY went down. She slept until 10 and probably would have slept longer but we had resorted to the car seat and I wasn't comfortable leaving her in it while we went to be. So we woke her, fed her, put her down and she fussed for just a few minutes and then slept 11:30-6:30, yay! :D So we'll keep trying and hope it becomes the pattern.

Bottles - Adele has had a bottle since the hospital since my milk didn't come in so we haven't had any refusal issues. Now she gets 1 4oz bottle of formula/day b/c she doesn't bf well under cover and I need to have a way to feed her when we're out. If I don't have a need to give it to her while we're out we give it to her in the evening so that she still gets one every day.

Bottle feeding - We're lucky on this end that DS has not had any issues with taking a bottle, from anyone. He's even taken one from me! And now that he's in daycare, I expect it won't be an issue at all.

Sleep - Well, just when I think we're getting into a good pattern, we regress. DS had been STTN, but over the past week he's been getting up once or twice a night. Now granted, they are usually short wakings (he feels his wet diaper and just can't go back to sleep), with a quick diaper change and a quick comfort feed. I probably don't even need to feed him, but it's the quickest way to settle him down. We keep working on getting his bedtime earlier - we're now consistently at 9:30 pm. I hope he starts going down even earlier, since I keep having to wake him up in the mornings around 7 so we can get on our way to daycare. And we're still swaddling him - every time we stop, he wakes himself up with his flailing arms and scares himself. I guess we'll keep working on not swaddling on the weekends, when we can recover from crazy nights.

Supplementing - Is anyone here supplementing with formula at all? We just started giving him a little bit this weekend. As you can see from our 2 month WBV, he's not packing on the weight very quickly, and the pediatrician is getting a bit concerned that he keeps dropping down on the weight growth chart (but not the height or HC one). I'm guessing it's b/c his cycle - eat, play, sleep - is probably a bit too long (usually it's 3-4 hours between feedings, although it gets closer to 2 hours in the evening).

Paci - Very rarely will he take the paci - usually it just makes him more unhappy. He only seems to take it when he's really tired and realizes that he won't be getting the boob (i.e. at daycare or with everyone but me). But I'm OK with him not using one.

With my DC#1, we supplemented for the very same reasons you are - he wasn't gaining fast plus he had awful reflux. It was the best thing we could've done for him.

Flat Spots
I started noticing one on Megan a couple of weeks ago, but it's seemed to round back out. We do have the bald spots though...she's got a little "halo" the encircles her her. :)

Shannon,
Thank you for sharing your story about Noa and the bottle. I'm afraid that's what it may come to for us as well. I have read that they'll never starve themselves. I was even reading on KM that many babies do what is called "reverse cycling"- take in just enough EBM to take the edge off their hunger and make up for lost feedings once you are home. Unfortunately, usually by getting up multiple times during the night. I guess we'll just wait and see what happens.

Max is adorable! I just want to pinch on his little rolls!

Taz,
Woo Hoo! What a great stretch of sleep!

Loud_curly,
We're still swaddling here, too. Everytime I try to put her down without it, she flails uncontrollably. DD1 was swaddled until she was nearly 6 months old (:embarrassed:) and started breaking out of her Miracle Blanket. I've read there isn't an immediate need to get them out of it. It won't disrupt them developmentally or anything. So if it works for you, by all means keep doing it. Unless of course you're just trying to bite the habit early.

Cooper is such a doll! We've got some beautiful babies in this group.

Supplementing
So far I've been really lucky. We supplemented DD1 though because I was EPing and my supply couldn't keep up. I start back to work in 2 weeks and while I am concerned how my supply will be affected, I don't think I feel as much pressure this time around. You do what you can to keep your baby healthy and growing. Sometimes we need a little help, ya know?

Paci
Megan won't take one...kind of a blessing and a curse. A blessing in that DD1 still takes one for sleep at 2.5 years old and breaks down at the very mention of getting rid of it. So, I'm happy we won't have them around for Megan when we finally ditch them for Caroline. But, I worry how she'll soothe once I go back to work. She's started chewing her hands a lot lately so maybe she's finding other ways?

mvkh,
I'm so sorry for your rough nights. Especially with you just having started back at work. Hang in there, it will pass and she'll go back to her good sleeping patterns. I feel like just as soon as we recover from a growth spurt, we get beat down by another.

Sandie,
Congratulations! Man, I'm so jealous. Megan's only done it once. I long for an unintterupted 8 hours or so.

STTN- far from it here. Max has been battling a very itchy scalp that kept him from sleeping/napping soundly. We're finally on some meds that I think may help. He slept better last night but the kid *still* thinks he needs to eat twice a night. At his size, I think he's mistaken. We've broken him from the swaddle addiction BUT he is currently sleeping and napping in his swing (papasan seat on FP Nature's Touch). We don't even turn it on but he sleeps SO much better there. In his crib, he kicks and flails and wakes very frequently. I'm concerned this is going to be a hard habit to break but I guess it provides him the same security that other babies get from the swaddle.

Whew - trying to catch up, but ya'll are chatty! I'm on Spring Break, so I might actually get a little caught up this week, YEA! :)

Eden's growing like a weed! I think mkvh was mentioning the eating every.two.hours. We're doing that, though, thankfully!, not at night. I think she might be catching up for me being at work. My supply is so low that we're just hanging on but I'm trying to let her nurse whenever she even hints at it. I'm also taking piles of Fenugreek. I only have 10 or so weeks of work left - that's my goal, to BF into summer. But really, if we make it another 3-4 weeks, we'll have surpassed how long I BF my other 2!

We had a big milestone yesterday - we set up Eden's crib!! I had a really hard time doing it - I know she's growing, but I'm just not ready to move her out of my room yet. We won't do it just yet, as she'll be sharing a room with Abigail - and quite frankly, Abigail sleeps like crap. Eden, on the other hand, has been sleeping through the night for probably over a month now, and I don't want to mess with that. But she's getting too big for her cradle, so I know I need to start that move. It's just hard, since this is the last time I'll get to sleep with a newborn... :( Despite my issues, we put her in it yesterday to try it out and she loved it! In fact, she obliged us with her first roll-over!! She went from her belly to her back - so fast that none of us were expecting it, but even Tallia got to see it! She hasn't done it again, but I suspect she'll start adding it in to her routine soon enough. We have been having her nap in the crib and she's doing really well with that, so I think we're getting closer to a normal, daily routine for her.

Hmmm...what else? Well, there's probably tons more, but I need to change a very smelly pull-up! :p Looking forward to getting to know the January moms!

Well Adele has her first cold. She slept great Sunday night but last night was just awful and this morning I figured out it was because she is congested and has a hard time breathing laying down so she kept waking herself up. So she's napping in her bouncer or her car seat and is much happier. I think we'll sleep her in her bouncer tonight and see if that helps her.

Shannon,
I hope the meds help. It can't help that it's still so dry out. Hopefully his skin clears up soon and you all start catching some zzz's.

Sonya,
Hopefully this growth spurt will help your supply catch up so you can make it to your goal. You're so close!

Wow...lots of big news: new crib, new tricks...it's been a busy week in your house. I know the mixed feeling of moving them in to their crib. We moved Megan a few weeks ago, much to my dismay. I found she was sleeping so much better though in her own room. I miss snuggling with her. For a while she'd still sleep with me for her afternoon nap, but now she's not even wanting that. :(

Glad you found us, Tara!

Cheri,
Sorry to hear about the cold. It's so hard at this age because there is very little we can do for them. I hope elevating her helped. I know when I have a cold it helps. Hope Adele feels better soon!

Us
I can't seem to get Megan's eye infection cleared up. The Ped prescribed 7 days of drops which seemed to be doing the trick. Over the weekend her eyes were looking almost 100%. But then Monday they started getting goopy again. Yesterday was Day 7. I guess I'll call to see if he wants me to continue, or if he wants to see her again.

For those of you that mentioned growth spurts, thanks! Sophia has been really fussy lately and I really didn't think this was the time for another growth spurt, so I didn't even consider it. She is eating quite a bit, but the biggest issue for us right now is that she won't sleep during the day. I'm not doing well with this either, especially since my boss is letting me work from home a couple days a week and I decided to keep her here with me those days.

Sonja: I completely understand your feeling. I don't sleep the entire night with Sophia, but I get teary eyed thinking about how fast they grow and how precious these moments are.

Speaking of which, we attended a wedding this weekend and they played butterfly kisses and I just lost it thinking about my girls growing up way too fast.

Shannon: Sophia is sleeping in ther swing when we can get her to sleep during the day and during the night. I hope Max's scalp get better soon. BTW, the pictures turned out great!

mkvh: Hey, I wanted to ask another pumping question. Do you feed everything you pump to your dd, actually how much is she eating these days? We were sticking to 4 oz a feeding, but I keep telling dh that she needs more in the moring because I pump more and that might have to do with her being so cranky! I did the calculations on kelly's mom awhile ago, but I don't have a recent weight to do it at the moment.

Taz: I hope Adele feels better soon!

AAAAAAAAA, I've got to run, Sophia won't sleep! I don't know what to do, I'm getting nothing done at all when I am home during the day and this is without having Eva here!

tgal - does she sleep in her car seat when you go out? Adele wouldn't sleep during the day for a while and I'd put her in her car seat and walk it around the house then set it on the floor and rock it and it worked almost every time. When she's really tired sometimes its the only thing that works.

Loud_curly
03-27-2008, 08:25 AM
tgal - Will she deal with the swing? Cooper is one who always fights going down for naps, but we've finally figured out that he's uber-fussy when he's tired. So we make sure he has a clean diaper and has been fed, and strap him into the swing and turn it on full blast. We usually know within a few minutes if it'll work, or if the crying will just continue endlessly. However, the car seat does not work for DS, unless it's constantly moving (car or stroller).

Oh, and as for pumping, I'm only getting 4 oz. at each session, and the daycare thinks he needs more than that. So we're getting by with a bit of formula and some frozen BM in addition to all I pump.

tgal--Nope...I freeze 1-2 bottles per day. From what I've read recently, all babies take in somewhere b/t 19-30oz per day for their first year of life. When I'm gone, DD takes 4-5 bottles, and we just moved up to 4oz. I worry about her chugging from the bottle since it comes out so much faster. I'll bet it wouldn't hurt to try a larger bottle in the a.m. as long as it's not forced.

LC--They thing he needs more than 4oz a feeding? Really? How many times is he eating? That seems like a lot for his size.

Web--Gah! She's so adorable!! Sorry that the contact is such a challenge, but as you said before it's a blessing you found it so early.

Webdiva - What a cutie!

mkvh - Yep, daycare's mentioned that he only voluntarily stopped feeding from his bottle once this week, and have given him as much as 5 oz. at a time. And I know he's getting a little formula here and there (which we provided, based on the pediatrician's advice). He's only feeding 3x a day - that's all the times that I can pump. I'm at work from 8:30 until 5:15 or so, and I pump around 10, 1, and 4, getting about 4 oz. each time. I'm a bit conflicted about it all. I think next week, I'll ask them to keep the feeding schedule a bit closer to my pumping schedule. Right now, he's getting his last bottle around 5 pm, which means he's not ready to nurse when we get home around 6:30. But I last pumped around 4, so I'm ready to feed him around then. It's all trial and error, but we'll have to see.

I have a quiet house...ahhhhh! Max is napping and Dh took DD on a run.

I'm in the process of having Max sleep in his crib, as opposed to his papasan seat on his swing. I've only done naps so far (not at night) but I'm definitely seeing an improvement. He's even put himself to sleep(after a little fussing) for 3 of his naps today!!! That's HUGE around here. I got some great suggestions from other mamas on how to make the transition easier from swing to crib and I think they've helped a lot.

Now, the other big sleep issue is that he STILL wakes up to eat twice most nights. I KNOW he is not uber hungry and it is just out of habit. I do not mind feeding him once at night but how do I go about breaking him of this habit? Any ROs dealt with this in the past? I know I should've broke him of this earlier but it's just so much easier to feed him for 5 minutes and put him back down rather than hearing him cry, which I know is going to happen when I don't feed him.

His itchy head (seborrhea- sp?) is better but still not gone. Poor kid is losing some of his locks b/c of the steroid foam we have to use to stop him from itching it. :(

WebDiva- She's such a cutie! I'm so glad the cataract surgery went well.

LC--Can you ask them to try to give them to him more slowly, i.e. hold the bottle less vertically, burp every oz, etc? Also, my friend who does daycare with her DD the same age as our DC calls every. day. to be sure that they're not feeding her DD at 4;30 so she can nurse as soon as they get home. Can you ask them to feed on demand rather than at set intervals and see how that works?

MaMa--Good to see you! I recently turned 31 as well. It feels waaaay older than 30, for some reason!

Shannon--WTG on the crib and putting himself to sleep. Ah, the liberation! As for the nightwakings, I'm of no help. DD1 didn't night wake until she was 7m, and we let her CIO. Poor guy with his scalp rash. :(

Anyone else dealing with a constant-feeding, total crankypants? She's driving me nutso.

i know i've been horrible with the SOs ... but i decided that today i will start with everyone that came after my post :p

ShannonGH- oh my gosh, how nice is it to have 5 minutes of quiet???? well, i wish i could help you with the sleep situation. mila was in an awesome routine with only one get-up for over 2 wks and she picked up grandma's cold on Easter (i'm sure you can all imagine how ridiculously pissed i am that i wasn't told grandma was sick before we went over there). now that she's been sick for 5 days, her sleep is worse than when she was first born. i am up at least three times before 5 am and then every 45 minutes until 7 or 8. i am SO unbelievably tired and just know that this will turn into a habit for her that i will have no idea to break. i'm already stressing about it. any suggestions?

mkvh- is it lame to say that i feel super old???? actually, when i hear or read my age i think i'm old, but i still feel like i'm 25.

hopefully i'll be back to post some pictures! so excited to be "back"!!!!

although i know i'll be up half the night, i want to brag a little about miss america, AKA Mila, before i go to sleep!

she is just the happiest baby ever! even while being examined by the pediactrician for her cold, she smiled and cooed. she has been regularly smiling whenever she spots her big brother and is flipping ALL.THE.TIME from back to front and front to back. it's at the fun stage where you set her down on her back and turn around to find her on her tummy!

i pierced her ears right after her first vax and felt HORRIBLE when she screamed. here i am, a mom that wouldn't clip her tongue-tied tongue, piercing her ears at a little over two months. as lame as it may sound, it is sort of a right-of-passage in our culture. i had mine pierced before i was 6 months old. although, right after i did it, i was so upset with myself for doing it. all i kept thinking was what a horrible mother i was for having it done. BUT ... she is too damn cute with her little pierced ears. they've healed beautifully and she really didn't fuss after the initial piercing.

she is ridiculously long and i just ordered a bunch of sale stuff from gap online, only to find that she has outgrown 3-6 months. guess i'll be reordering the next size up!

i hope you're all doing well and look forward to meeting all the new mamas and their families!

Hi Everyone!

Quick driveby question for ya'll... For the breastfed babies, how often do they poop now at 3-4 months?

Poop is the big topic in our house right now. DD will go upwards of 7 days between poops and lately per our ped's recommendation we've had to coax some out with Babylax. Anyone have experience with babies that just didn't want to go? She's such a crankypants bear on "poop day". Do they just outgrow this and it gets better when they are on more solids?

ShannonGH

Currently Max is going about every day to every-other-day. I think there is a very broad range of "normal poos" for bf babies.

Thanks ladies! I think we got through the rough patch, or at least I hope so. She does sleep in her carseat for extended periods of time, but we have to drive around to get to sleep. The swing works too, but this past week she would just scream during the day. We finally just let her CIO in the swing, which worked. She is a fighter just like her sister. Anyway, I do think things are improving.

Poop: Sophia has been having issues for well over a month now. It was a drastic change too from going every day to nothing for 11 days when she finally had another bm. Then it was 10 days again and we called the ped. We could tell she was uncomfortable. Our ped. wanted us to use pedialite and prune juice, which she didn't take at all. Then she suggested water with karo and dh can get her to take that when I'm not around. That worked for a couple of weeks and she would go once a week. The ped was fine with that. I think Kelly's mom even mentions it is fine to go once a week. Well, now we are back to square one she had the water and karo last week and still no poo. Dh is calling the ped back today because this day 12. Personally, in our situation, I think the poo issue is a result of the reflux meds. I'm sure the ped won't attribute the problem as I am, but that is right about when this all started. Then again, I'm not an expert !

Poop - We can go up to 4 days without poop. But some days we still get two or three really dirty diapers. But nowhere near as long as a week with poop. (FTR, our pediatrician says she's not concerned until it's been longer than a week without poop.)

Sleep - We're getting into a much better routine these past few weeks. DS usually goes to bed between 7 and 8:30 (yes, I know, a wide spread, but we're still going off of his cues), wakes once around 3, and then we usually have to wake him at 7 to nurse and go to daycare. Sometimes we get a second night waking around midnight, but that's not common. And I'm still nursing him to almost sleep at these wakings (and to go to bed) - which may bite me later, but right now, it's part of the routine. Play, dress for bed, lights down, nurse, swaddle, nurse some more, into the crib (either drowsy or already asleep). When he's awake and I put him in the crib, he sometimes fusses for a few minutes, but he knows it's time for bed. Our next hurdle is getting rid of the swaddle.

tgal--Every time DD2 fights sleep, I have premonitions that she too will be "a fighter like her sister". That would be my worst nightmare come true! Hope Sophia settles down and sleeps for you soon.

LC--Yaaaay! Sounds like sleep is going well for you. The wide range of bedtimes is par for the course in our house too.

Poop and reflux meds--My friend whose DD was born 12/29 says her DD's poops changed radically when she went on Prevacid.

Speaking of reflux meds, I'm really struggling with whether to try them for G. She does the stiffening/arching/sudden crying. She drools a TON and is inconsolably fussy for periods. Some days are bad, others not so bad. She still is a ton better than she was before I eliminated dairy, but there are bad days/times still. I worry that she's in pain and I'm not doing anything to help her, and I also worry that I'd be giving her meds that she doesn't need. I'm just a such an impassee... To make it worse, the ped offered meds at her 2m appt, and I declined because it wasn't "that bad". The ped even said that if we decided to go that route, all we needed to do was call and she'd call it in. I just don't know.

In other more fun developments, I swear DD just discovered that she has control of her arms and legs, and since she hasn't stopped moving! She's in perpetual motion, swimming and bicycling. It's so funny. That and she is soooo chatty. She talks all. the. time. I forgot how great it is to finally get some interaction.

mkvh - Just wanted to let you know that DS is at the exact same place as G. Might have reflux, pediatrician offered meds, etc. Some days he's fine, other he's very fussy and seems to be in pain until he can pass the gas. I'm still hoping he'll outgrow it as his digestive system matures.

And yes, DS is moving all around - I never know where in the crib I'll find him in the morning. I've only seen him roll once, but I'm guessing that he's done it since then. And yes to the drool and constant conversation - it's getting to be a fun stage!

poops- i have frequent poopers (LOL :p), as well. just like mkvh's DD, DS at 2.5 rarely goes a day without a BM.

reflux meds- everyone's experience is different with the reflux meds/diagnosis ... so please take this with a grain of salt. DS displayed so many of the symptoms of reflux and after a few months of not knowing what else to do, i gave in and started him on the meds. long story short, i don't think he had reflux and i never believed that the meds were really helping. it's a lot of guesswork on the part of the doctors and parents b/c so many symptoms can just be normal infant fussiness. the reason i don't believe that he had reflux was because i had a girlfriend who's daughter did have reflux and responded immediately to the medication ... whole new baby with almost no fussiness. i will say to trust your instinct and do what you think is best. you can always let her try the meds and if you don't see an improvement take her off.

tgal- so sorry to hear about the sleep problems. i had them big time with DS, which is why i freaked when mila got sick and was waking 6-7 times a night. DS still fights sleep at 2.5. i think it is just the way they are programmed when they are born. i did absolutely nothing diffferent with mila and she slept so much better from the get go. i hope things continue to improve!

mila has started to GIGGLE!!! i LOVE it. she's rolling all over the house, drooling, sucking her hands and giggling! haha!!! she's gotten over the cold and sleeping better. i basically didn't go in to her when she woke after a couple hours of putting her down to sleep and she did the little protest crying for about 5 minutes and didn't wake for another 5 hours. i'm hoping it stays that way.

QOTD- anyone with long kids have a recommendation for diapers??? i have mila in size 2 swaddlers and while the waist is big, the length is sort of short and she wakes up with a soaked diaper and PJ. do i need to just go up a size? i wasn't a fan of huggies with DS.

LC--Thanks for commiserating! I just don't know....we're feeling a lot of the same things, tho, so I am glad not to be alone!

MaMa--Thanks for sharing. I'm glad you understand.

Diaper rec--Both my 90%+ length-wise girls have done well in Huggies. Regular ones, not Supremes. G is wearing 2s right now tho not for long. The regular ones are visibly longer rise.

yay, busy thread!

diapers for long babies- we're in Kirkland (Costco brand) size 1-2 and they work very well. And are cheap!

Sleep- like LC, we're getting into a great routine here too. DS puts himself down for most naps and at bedtime. He usually fusses and then goes on to sleep. If he cries hard, I try to console him w/o getting him out of the crib. Works 95% of time. I've broken him of the swaddle addiction and paci addiction, and he is now doing all of his sleeping in his crib (granted, he has rolled towels around him to make him feel more secure). Like mama, my first baby was a HORRID sleeper (still is) and I'm not doing anything different w/ #2...I agree it is so how they are programmed.

Sorry no time for so's. Max is fussing.

Thanks mkvh, Loud_curly and Shannon.

Loud_curly, are you sure daycare is not feeding him too much? I printed out a sheet from kellymom.com on how to bottlefeed the breastfed baby and gave it to my daycare provider. I want to continue bf'ing her until she's around 1 or so and I need to be able to keep up with her in terms of how much she eats. Here is the handout that I gave to daycare: http://www.kellymom.com/store/freehandouts/bottle_feeding.pdf

Sleep I STILL can't get A to sleep in her own bed at night. She may start out in there, but when she gets hungry and I pick her up, she will not go back in there. She's still in a co-sleeper for the time being. I have it in bassinet mode right now, but I think tonight I'm going to try attaching it to our bed...maybe she'll think that she's still in our bed.

Poop She's still pooping multiple times a day. At least 2-3 times. For about her first 2 months, every single diaper was poopy. I'm so grateful for 2-3 times a day now...lol

tgal,
Megan has stopped sleeping a lot during the day, too. This phenomenom has just started in the past week or so. Prior to, she'd only stay awake for 45 minutes at a time. Now, she tries to push it longer than 2 hours.

Web Diva,
Glad you found us! Wow, thank goodness you and your DH noticed her eye. The poor little girl. I'm having a hard enough time getting drops in to Megan's eye, I can't even imagine trying to put in/take out a contact lense from her eye. Do they have an idea as to when they'd like to do the surgery? Aurelia is adorable!

LC,
4 ounces sounds like more than enough to me too? Could he just be comfort sucking? Do they say if he's fussy once the bottle runs out? Are they pulling him off the bottle periodically to burp/let his brain register that his tummy is full?

Shannon,
Yay for transitioning to the crib! He'll realize soon enough it's nice to have your own quiet place to stretch out. Glad to hear he's adjusting so well. Sorry to hear about the night wakings. I think at this age you should continue to feed him when he demands it. Babies have a growth spurt at 3 months so maybe once he's past this he'll do a longer stretch at night?

Mama,
Wow, I can't believe Mila is already rolling over both ways! Sounds like you are going to have a mobile kiddo on your hands. Look out!
How cute that you got her ears pierced. I think babies look so cute with pierced ears. I'm so scared to do it though because I had the most difficult times with my ears getting infected for years. I'm scared my girls will take after me so I figure I'll let them do it when they're old enough to clean them. :D

mkvh,
I'm so sorry to hear Georgia is still so uncomfortable despite making your dietary changes. I wish I had some advice to help you, but I think in this case you just have to listen to your mothers intuition and go with what your heart tells you.

Poop
Megan's still going with just about every feeding. Even at nearly 3 years old, Caroline still goes 1-3 times a day.

Sleep
It's getting better. For the last week, Megan has been going down at 8 or 9 and waking up at 3:30 or so. Eats and goes right back to sleep. And then wakes again around 6. From there, she eats every 2-3 hours. Figures she starts sleeping just as I go back to work. Not that I'm complaining since I'd have to get up to feed her anyway, but I think back to those early days when I'd be pulling all-nighters with her and would tell DH I couldn't wait for him to have his day.

Diapers
With DD1 I always noticed when she started having leaks, it was usually natures way of saying it was time to move up to the next size. I found the size charts on the diapers we're totally inaccurate. She was having to move up about 2 pounds before the high end of the range. We always used Pampers with her.

Us
I go back to work a week from today. Boo! The good thing though is that DH will stay home with the girls for 6 weeks before they have to go to daycare. Still, I didn't think it was going to be this hard. With DD1, I was kind of excited to get back to work because I was so lonely. Now, I am really loving the SAH thing. DD1 is always up for talking and megan is just as sweet as can be.
I'm worried because Megan is still refusing the bottle. We're still working with her daily on it, but are lucky if we get her to take a half ounce in a half hour. It's a good thing DH is patient! I know she won't starve herself, but it breaks my heart to think how difficult it's going to be for her until she figures out I'm not there and has no choice. I want to cry! I know I'll be sick with worry my first day back.

Liz, they did the surgery almost immediately. We had it confirmed that she has a cataract on a Thursday. She was in surgery on Tuesday afternoon. The cataract needed to be removed before she was 3 mo old in order to preserve her eyesight in that eye. We still have eye drops as well...I have that down to a science with her now and she doesn't even try or fuss anymore. I wait until she opens her eye up big and drop them in. I don't hold her lid or anything or else she fights. I just wait for her to open up...lol

So, I have seen C roll over from tummy to his back (mainly when he gets frustrated with tummy time and fidgets so much that he flips over and scares himself). But this morning, when I went to wake up C for the day, I found him sleeping on his tummy!! And in a miracle blanket to boot. He managed to get both of his arms free, and I guess rolled to the corner of the crib. Guess we'll now really have to work on stopping the swaddling, huh?

I got lost in the transfer!!

Here is my update I posted on LJ (feel free to skip!)

Hard to believe DD is 3 months old already!

10 pounds 12 ounces as of Monday March 17
23 inches long

Sleep:
Elizabeth is a great little sleeper! Essentially she is sleeping from 8-9pm to 6-7am. She has slept through the night twice. Naps aren't quite as good, but I am pretty lax - we have NO schedule during the day since I am home.

Eating:
Elizabeth is 100% breastfed. We have had the hurtles of her milk allergy. I think we have it under control!

Elizabeth eats close to every 2 hours during the day. Maybe a bit often for a 3 month old, but I think it is a lot of the reason she sleeps so well at night. If we go out, or she takes a good nap, she can go 4+ hours.

Development:
In the last month Elizabeth has changed from a newborn, into a little baby! She follows you across the room, is finding her hands, starting to reach for and grasp at things like her toys on her playmat.

Tummy time continues to be a challenge. But every other day or so she surprises me and stays there for 10-15 minutes! Some days she screams after 2! She seems to have no urge to roll from her tummy to back, but she has a LOT of movement when on her back, leading me to believe she will go back to front first. Elizabeth isn't a kicker though! Same as before she was born, she loves to squiggle and stretch! But not a lot of kicks!

Even with the 'fun' of tummy time, Elizabeth is getting VERY strong! She loves to be upright, either held up on your shoulder, or sitting on your lap. DO NOT try to cradle this kid! Even when she is on the verge of sleep she will scream if you hold her horizontally!

In the last 2 weeks she has REALLY started to talk to you! Especially in the morning when laying on the change pad. She will 'answer' you and tell you about her day. And she is starting to distiguish a happy voice, sad/mad voice and a loud voice!

Finally - Elizabeth is MAJORLY playing shy! Just before she was 2 months my dad thought she was... but it is in FULL force now. Everyone comments how young she is for it. But it is undoubtebly what is going on. In the morning she is good with Terry (or my parents when we stayed there), but by afternoon/evening.... we have a 'look but don't touch' policy! Especially if she can see me!

LIZ- Mila's pierced ears healed so well and FAST! I was hoping that would be the case since she's so tiny. The lady that pierced her ears told me it was best to do it at this age when she's too young to really understand or wait until she's asking to have them pierced! :D I hope your first day of work isn't killer!!! I'm sure it is so nice to know that DH will be at home with the kids for awhile.

TerpsFan- ahhh the joys of pooping! haha!!! just wait until her first pee on the potty! you'll be calling people over for a celebration!

mkvh- thanks for your help! i got the photos removed!

LC- YAY for rolling over AND it being while he was asleep! that was the hardest for me with DS. as soon as i got him to sleep a little better he was flipping in his sleep and would wake up screaming. it's awesome that cooper continued to sleep!

LG- YAY for a great sleeper!!! mila is still doing 1 - 2 get-ups a night. i know the second one is out of habit and i'm trying to not go to her when she gets up the 2nd time.

thanks for all the diaper recs! i bumped her up a size last night and there were no leaks this morning! although the waist of a size 3 is ridiculously huge and the tabs overlap, i'll take it!

another QOTD- when does your DC take his/her final nap for the day? mila took sort of a late nap last night and i think it messed with her night sleep a little.

lil_geek
04-01-2008, 09:45 AM
QOTD: E needs a late nap... I am talking 6-7 or sometimes later. Then she is awake for less then an hour before we get her ready for bed. Generally her naps are something like this....

8-9am
10:30-11:30
1:30-2
3:30-5
6:30-7:30

bed sometime between 8:30 and 9:30

I would REALLY like to get her naps on a better/longer schedule. If we go out after lunch, she will sometimes sleep 3-4 hours straight, but not at home.

TerpsFan,
I'm glad she finally went for you. I had to laugh- I can just picture you jumping around and screaming. The things we get excited about as Moms! I never though poop would become such a primary focus of my life.

WebDiva,
So I tried your sneak attack yesterday and I ended up getting eyedrops everywhere BUT her eye. You are gooood, my friend! I tried again this morning, and I at least got it in one eye. Maybe my hands are getting steadier?

Loud_curly,
That's exactly how Caroline started rolling over. We'd go in to get her in the morning and she'd be on her tummy, still swaddled in the Miracle Blanket and all. I don't know how she did it. For the longest time, she wouldn't do it for us, but we knew she could because we'd find her like that every morning.

MaMa,
Yeah, just contact a mod with the post #'s- they should be able to delete them for you.
You make a good point about the ears. I wonder if mine were always getting infected because I was 9 and would touch them all the time? At this age, they don't even know they have ears. hmmmm...

LG,
Glad you found us! Elizabeth is adorable...look at all that beautiful hair!!

QOTD- Naps
We're still kind of all over the place. I guess she usually takes one in the late afternoon (about 3 or 4) for an hour or 2 and is up to join us for dinner (about 6:00). Yes, she usually wakes up just as we are sitting down so I end up nursing at the dinner table. I guess she just wants to eat with the fam. ;) She usually goes to bed between 8 or 9.

Us
I think Megan is starting that growth spurt a few of you wrote about last week. She was up every 2 hours to feed last night. I'm spent! Yesterday she and Caroline were tag-teaming me: one would cry as they went down for a nap and would wake the other. I don't think I got 5 minutes to myself yesterday.

LIZ- 2 hour naps????? i am SO jealous :p with mila i can set a timer for 45 minutes and she'll wake just as it is buzzing (DS was exactly the same). i'm in the same boat with lil_geek. and not until DS was much older did his naps lengthen. i think it was at about 9 or 10 months that i got maybe one nap a day that was an hour and a half to 2 hours and then he'd fight napping the rest of the day. am i missing something here? any advice?

We're having some nap issues here, and I think it's due to gas. He's always had issues with gas hurting his tummy and it never fails to wake him up during his naps. His daily naps are 45 min at the most and a lot of time he wakes up crying/screaming.:( My ped said her son had gas issues too and she was so neurotic about it she cut her diet back to ONLY boiled chicken....and he still screamed from gas! The OTC meds don't work for us. She said it eventually gets better around 4 mos so I'm holding out.

MaMa,
LOL...what can I say? I guess she enjoys sleep as much as I do. Her naps range anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours (like the one she's working on right now: put her down at 11:30 and her it is 2:45 and she is STILL sleeping). I was actually concerned at how much she sleeps and mentioned it to her Ped at her 2 month WBV. He said it's normal though and so long as she's having alert wake periods and meeting her developmental milestones, it was fine.
No advice, as I think much of it is luck and depends on the kid. We've been following Weissbluth though so I'm not sure how much that has to do with anything. I did notice once I started catching her early sleep cues and putting her down tired, but awake, we've been getting longer stretches of sleep.

Naps - We're all over the map here with naps as well. He's been doing really well with morning naps, but his afternoon naps are nothing. Daycare hasn't helped, except it reinforced the napping issue. On the weekends, we really look for those sleepy cues (like Liz), but now that he's older, he's getting much more interested in his surroundings. So instead of him napping in the car, he's now busy looking out the window.

Shannon - That's why I haven't modified my diet b/c of gas. It's hit or miss with C, but he's usually most fussy in the evenings. If it was reflux, wouldn't he be fussy all day long? I'm hoping it gets better soon (although the daycare suggested putting him on meds b/c he spits up all day long, even though it doesn't bother him at all).

LG - Welcome aboard!!! Glad to have you here!

Naps - we're all over the place too. For the most part she will go down after two hours of wakefulness for 30-45 minutes until about 4:30 in the afternoon. Then all bets are off and she goes to bed somewhere between 9-12. She was sleeping in six hour chunks at night but the past few nights she has consistently been up at 2:30 and then has been a bear to get back to sleep. We're having some breastfeeding issues that I'm finally giving up on so starting tomorrow she will be giving expressed breast milk and I'm sure this will affect her sleeping and napping for a while.

ShannonGH - we had/have gas issues too. I gave up dairy about six weeks ago and I'm slowly reintroducing it. The gas issues have gotten MUCH better though I haven't tried putting a glass of milk or yogurt back in. Right now I just have dairy that is in things, like cheese on pizza. Once we get her feeding issues taken care of I'll probably try the milk/yogurt again I'm told sometimes their digestive systems just need more time to develop.

Oooh oooh ooh! Here I am! I've been so out of the loop around here. But yay, now I have something to do when I'm bored at work. ha ha!

Let's see...stats:

pelican75
Me: Pam
DH: George
It's some boys: Linus, Oliver, Miles
Birthdate: 12/4/07
Time of birth: 6:54am, 6:55am, 6:56am
Weight at birth: 4lb 10oz, 4lb 10oz, 4lb 2oz
Length at birth: 17, 17, 17 (or something like that. heh.)
Any other children: no. thank god!

The boys will be four months old on Friday, so I'll post updated stats then. They're 10 weeks adjusted, though, so they're definitely closer to the mid-to-late January babies for developmental milestones. I have to admit, I get a pang when I see babies born after them doing a lot more. But I have to remember they were born at 33w2d!

Hmmm, what else...here's a pic of when they were first born, and one from a few days ago...

Then:
(the first picture I have of all three of us together. just a bonus that it's from national news. ha ha!)

Taz,
Ugh...it's not the getting up in the middle of the night that's so bad, it's getting them back to sleep! I'm sorry she's been giving you trouble. Hopefully she'll get back on track again.

Pam,
Yeah! I was hoping you'd come over here and even out the Boy/Girl Score. ;) Every time I see the boys they are in a different, cuter onesie. Where in the world do you find these things?

Megan finally took a bottle tonight! Hallelujuah! I was so worried what with me going back to work this Monday and all. One less thing to worry about.

Wow...busy day today!

I can't believe we have babies rolling both ways ALREADY! That's just nuts to me. Weren't they just born?

Naps--Eh...we nap whenever she's tired! Still following the no-more-than-2-hours rule, but we rarely make it that long. We get a good nap about an hour after waking for the day and then usually a nice, long one when big sister naps in the afternoon. We too have a late one close to dinner time.

LC--Eeek! So cool!!

LG--How cool that E is chatting. Did you go no-soy in addition to the dairy elim?

MaMa--Woo hooo for no leaks. We're moving to 3s too, as soon as this package is done. I'm so sick of changing pjs....

Liz--Sorry 'bout the growth spurt, but yippppeeeee for taking a bottle!

Shannon--So sorry 'bout the gas :( Poor little guy. You feel so sorry for them.

Pam--EEK! They're getting SO big. I thought of you Saturday--I was at our local MOMs group's sale, and there were TWO triple Baby Joggers. The price was right too ;)

Us--Nothing much new here. G decided she needed to eat every hour this afternoon while we were at the zoo. Grrrr... Still struggling with the decision about reflux meds. We've had a couple good days, so maybe that's not the issue... I like LC's take that they'll eventually grow out of this.

popping in real quick to ask pelican75- how DO you do it????? after i had DS, i kept saying that i have no idea how mothers of multiples survive. God bless you ... that is all i can say! :D and how ridiculously ironic that i am watching a "triple the triplets" show as i checked in tonight to meet/find you! they are TOO dang cute, BTW!

ETA ... OMG they are fricken identical!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (you must hear that ALL the time ... sorry :p)

ack, i have so much catching up to do before i can start on s/o's, but just wanted to say - mkvh - i wish i'd have gone to that sale! i really want a triple jogger. but they're soooo $$$!

liz - one of our friends gave us a bunch of sets of three coordinating onesies at our shower. they were all 0-3 month size, though, so they won't fit for much longer. They're mostly in 3-6 stuff now, but since we have so many of these sets of three, i'm trying to get as much wear out of them as possible.

mama2d - ha ha ha! all i can say is...i don't know any better. :) these are our first kids, so at least i have nothing to compare it to. ha ha!

I'm having a very rare quiet moment so this is going to be quick - Pam I saw you on the news!! My dd was born right after your boys, so I was actually watching morning news and happened to catch the story about you and your threesome. Having been a terrible lurker, I recognized your story and even grabbed DH to show him! :o Anyway - your boys are adorable!

Hi to everyone...we've been in nap/sleep hell, so I'd love to commiserate, but I'm off to crawl in to bed early in the hopes of getting a few hours of zzz's before The Mouth wakes, starving! Will's finally back at work so I might get a few minutes on the computer over the next few days - trying to pop in to catch up! :)

ETA: meant to drop these off. I'll delete in a few days - the girls, at Easter, and a recent one of Eden (I have Big Sister shirts for the big girls, but can't get them to wear them all at the same time).

sdauer21 - your girls are sooooo adorable! :)

naps - Cate's still pretty inconsistent with naps. Monday she took 2 2-hour naps, yesterday just 1 2-hour nap in the morning. We'll see what today brings. Fortunately, she actually slept last night from about 11-6 (unlike the previous night of 1-4:30 sleep and that's all) so I won't feel dead at work today! YAY for sleep! Alex was a great sleeper from pretty much the beginning so I'm struggling with this....that and I have to get up around 5 to make sure I have myself ready for when she wakes up and wants to eat - and for Alex too! Eeegads.

sdauer - your girls are so adorable! love their matching outfits. :) funny about the news thing. it was so silly - i'm still not sure why it was newsworthy, but whatever. it was fun and it'll be cool to show the boys when they are older.

naps... i've been really bad about keeping track of their schedule, so i don't even know when their naps usually are. my in-laws have been watching them three days a week while i've been at work part time, and i don't know what they do with the boys, to be honest. but next week, they start daycare, so their schedule will be a lot more consistent. i'm trying to figure out how to work it, based on the advice of other triplet moms. right now, they tend to nap for about an hour or two at a time between feedings. i try to keep them awake for an hour or two before hand, but it doesn't always work. they tend to get cranky, fast.

really, i'm just taking it day by day. the only real routine we have is bedtime, which is bottle then bath. if they don't get their bath, they don't sleep nearly as well. i've got the five minute bath down to a science. :)

Aww...look at the cute little ones! :)

WebDiva,
So I tried your sneak attack yesterday and I ended up getting eyedrops everywhere BUT her eye. You are gooood, my friend! I tried again this morning, and I at least got it in one eye. Maybe my hands are getting steadier?

:) That happened to me a few times. It really just takes a lot of patience because sometimes she moves her head around when she sees me getting close to her face...lol...I just wait a moment or two for the opportune moment to get a drop in. lol Fortunately for us after Friday the drops are over! :D

I'm a little jealous because of all the babies rolling over. A seems to want to, but she's not there yet. Maybe she needs more tummy time?

pelican75
04-02-2008, 12:17 PM
Okay, I'm bored at work and so I've just done a read-through of the entire thread. Whew! I know I'm still going to forget some things, but I'm going to try to catch up a little and ask a few questions myself.

STTN - even though the boys are technically some of the oldest babies in the thread, since they were almost 7 weeks early, they're developmentally pretty young (I was due on Jan 20). Still, they're 10 weeks adjusted now and I think they should be sleeping longer. (Wishful thinking, perhaps?)

If I feed them more often during the day (note: they are FF with bottles) might they sleep better at night? This seems so obvious, but I just wonder if anyone can confirm this. I really shouldn't complain - they are pretty much only waking up once to eat (they'll sleep from 10-2, then wake up ravenous, and then sleep until 7.) If it was only one baby, it'd be fine, but it takes nearly an hour to get all three fed, changed, and reswaddled. And sometimes they won't go right back to sleep if we have pacifier issues.

Anyway...they eat basically every 3-4 hours during the day. I wonder if I push it to 2.5-3 hours between feedings, maybe they'll sleep longer? Hmm.

Sorry to babble on about that. You gals just seem so much more "with it" than me. Sigh.

So anyway. I also want to say that I love all of the baby names in this thread, they're so beautiful! And such cute babies! I can't see most of the pics from work, but the ones I can see are sweet!

I wonder when they'll start rolling over? Here's another issue I have. With three babies, it's very hard to have much one-on-one time with them. So we don't get as much tummy time as we should. I try to do it every day, and I try to just put them on their activity mat as much as I can, but it's hard. :( I worry that they spend too much time swaddled, or in their swings, or just in our laps, and not enough time on flat surfaces. Like, how are they going to learn to roll over if they're not on the floor or something?

Sigh...

On the subject of poops, (tee hee) they used to poop with every.diaper.change. Ugh, and formula poop is STINKY! Thank goodness in the last month or so it's dropped down to once a day. Of course, that once a day is horrific, but at least it's just once. :)

Sorry pelican , I can't answer your question (DD is BF'ed), but I was just wondering about the sleeping. DD still wakes up 2 to 3 times per night. This is not normal at this stage??? She usually goes right back to sleep after eating, but sometimes she'll stay up for a bit. I just started back to work last week so she has started staying up a bit more after a feeding. I thought it was normal until I just read your comment about the boys waking up once in the middle of the night.

pelican75
04-02-2008, 01:20 PM
Well, I don't know if it's normal or not (maybe just wishful thinking!) but it seems like everyone else's babies are STTN. Hmm. Maybe I just need to be more patient. :p

Pelican - First of all, welcome!!! Your boys are just the cutest things, and I marvel at how well you're all doing! And you're working - what a powerful working mom!!

As for the rolling, don't beat yourself up over them not rolling yet. C is/has not been a fan of tummy time, so he would only get a few minutes each day if that. He's also a big fan of being held, so he's not on the floor all that much. I have no idea how he learned to roll - I've only seen him do it once (but he obviously does it at night).

As for STTN, I think it's hit or miss and depends on the child. I'm guessing that you'll have an even harder time than many of us b/c if one gets up, he may very well wake the other 2 up. And we're still up once a night as well.

pelican75

mkvh,
G's feeding schedule has me very afraid since she is only a week older than Megan. Please tell me that's not what I have to "look forward to" next week.

Pam,
I always found onesies lasted us much longer. At least for us. They're so long and well, my kids are so short. :D
Feeding- Hmmm...Megan is BF'd so it may be a little different but she eats every 2-3 hours during the day for the most part and still gets up once during the night, too. You could try adding another feeding during the day and see if that helps, but it may just be that their tummies are still tiny and still need that night feeding. I can't even imagine...if both of my girls wake up it stresses me out. I can't imagine having another hungry, crying mouth to tend to. You need to hire and octopus as a nanny.
Don't stress about the rolling. As I mentioned earlier, Caroline started rolling over in her sleep while swaddled in her Miracle Blanket. For weeks we found her like this, but she never did it during her wake times. Don't beat yourself up- they're getting all the exercise they need. We're pretty bad about tummy time ourselves, but she spends a lot of time on our chests and gets the same neck/head workout from that.

sdauer,
What gorgeous girls you have! DH better start shining his shotgun. ;)

Web Diva,
Megan does the same thing. She'll start shaking her head excitedly and smiling (which causes her eyes to squint). It's a mess! Hopefully she won't be on them much longer either.

Rolling Over
With the exception of when she was an hour old, not here yet either. I can tell she's trying and it's driving her crazy that she can't. She'll lift her little legs up and swing them side to side trying to build up momentum.

Hey ladies, just time to comment on a few things.

STTN - Adele was sleeping from 11-6 or 7 before her cold, now she's waking up at least once if not twice but she's sounding less congested today so I'm hoping she'll go back to it soon.

Rolling over - Not here yet either, though she's craned her neck around far enough a few times that she's started that direction. She can do a "push-up" when she's on tummy time so I suppose its coming.

Yay! for new members! :D

naps- as I'm typing this, Mila is napping and has been for over an HOUR :D WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!! there really is no set schedule here for naps ... just the sleepy cues and we are Weissbluth's biggest fans :p(it's the only book that helped get DS to sleep)!

rolling over- IMO, it is SO up to the baby (just like everything else). i didn't set aside specific tummy time with mila because she started rolling from her back to tummy when she was about 2 months old. she sort of initiated it on her own and once she got tired of being on her tummy, she would flip to her back and is now rolling.

Sorry to babble on about that. You gals just seem so much more "with it" than me. Sigh.

uhmmm ... pelican, we each have ONE infant!!! good LORD! you make me feel like a failure as a mother when i read how great your babIES are! as far as STTN, i think one get-up a night is awesome at this point. i'm sure it is a lot of work for you and hearing that other babies are sleeping without getting up is tough, but i'm sure over time they will do the same.

sdauer- they are TOO cute!!! they each have suck striking eyes!

Taz- i hope adele feels better soon! so not fun when they're sick. as soon as mila's congestion went away, she started sleeping better at night.

BBL ... DS wants to play "cars" and has been chanting "cars, cars, cars" for the past 5 minutes.

The banshees are ready for dinner (aka - running up and down the hallway screaming!), so this will be super quick.

Thanks for the compliments on the girls. They crack me up on a daily basis! Of course, today at the park, someone asked how old "he" was (referring to Eden, who was pretty bundled up). There was no way to tell she was a girl, but it cracked me up, knowing how much PINK she has - it's rare that she's not head to toe girl! Ah, the perils of 2 older sisters and 2 older girl cousins.

STTN - Well, I handsomely jinxed myself last time I talked about sleep, and I'm still paying for it! E was STTN since about 6 weeks, but gave that up in rare style last week. Since I went on spring break, she has yet to sleep more then a few hours at a shot - last night, she went down at 8:30 and got up to eat at 1:30, 3:30, 4:45 and then for good at 6:45. I don't know if my supply is just that disasterous, if she's still growing, or if she's just doing it for comfort. I do know she needs to get over it soon! :p

Rolling - she's only done it once, and like someone else said (Tara?), she managed to scare herself doing it! It was purely by accident, and though she's seemed close a few other times, she's definitely not there yet. She doesn't seem to mind tummy time, so we try to get some of that in each day. she's pretty strong and likes to lift herself up to look in the crib mirror, but doesn't seem too interested in rolling. I'm fine with that - I'll take immobility as long as I can get it!

Naps - ugghh...I wish we had a better schedule. We're still hit and miss most days. Sometimes, she'll get in a good morning and afternoon, sometimes just one or the other, sometimes neither, just cat naps all day. I can't imagine the chaos brought on by her sisters has anything to do with the irregularity?! But it's been pretty dicey. I was able to say that at least she was sleeping all night, but we can't even say that right now. And mostly, I'm too tired to try to fix it. Or to counsel DH, who is home with the gang all day. I'm kind of biding my time a little longer until I'm done with work for the summer, in the hopes it will either resolve itself or i can tackle it then.

Ok...can't stall on dinner any longer! Back later :D

I'm so much more tired now that I'm back to work even though I'm waking up at the same time. Last night she decided to be up at 4:15 and took the longest time to go back to sleep. Eyes - speaking of eyes, if they're going to change color when do they do that? Adele has the deepest blue eyes I've ever seen and I love the color. ;)

mkvh
04-03-2008, 11:44 AM
Eyes changing color--IIRC, the vast majority of the pigment that will deposit in irises is there by 6 months. With DD1 (my total genetic freak of a blue-eyed child), her ped said at her 2 month visit that he was reasonably sure that they would stay blue. They were a darker "denim" blue then progressively got lighter. My nephew had very similar eyes, though, and at about 12-18m, his turned grey. Most changes in eye color are complete by a year, I think.

I still haven't decided what G's are going to be. Mine are light brown; DH's are green. It seems hers may be somewhere in between.

lil_geek
04-03-2008, 12:25 PM
Interesting on the eyes... DD's are blue-grey right now. I think it is pretty cool since I have DARK brown eyes... and Dh's are 'technicolor' (they are kinda hazel but will look blue or green depending on what he is wearing). My mom is hoping for green eyes from DD!

You ladies move quick in here!!

Ditto what mkvh and Ali said. It's very common for BF'd babies to do that. One of the many reasons I'm NOT looking forward to going back to work on Monday. I'm already tired as it is!

Eyes
megan's have already gotten lighter, too. They started out a deep, dark blue. Now they are lightening up. I think she'll end up having the same shade of blue as her sister.

Shannon,
Max is adorable! I love me some chunky baby thighs!

DD has been doing this for nearly a month (yup, this she started early - rolling she could care less!!). Anyway, the biggest issue is she HATES DH! She will scream if he looks at her the wrong way. Mila's eyes are the same blue that DS had at this age, but i just feel like they're going to change. is it lame to say that i really hope they turn dark brown like mine and not the weird light brown that is almost a non-color? i guess i should just thank God she has two beautiful eyes that she can see through. ;)

lil_geek- i wish i could offer some advice. DS was and still is extremely shy, but never with DH as a baby. as he got older and didn't see DH as much due to his working, he definitely became attached to me and wouldn't go to him as much. we solved the problem by having DH spend lots of time with him without me in the same room. do you leave DD alone with DH ... so that she doesn't see you?

Mama - I am wondering about another growth spurt too... we are only a few days behind you and E was up twice last night to eat and was ravenous each time!!!

We haven't progressed to her spending time with me out of the room yet, so far she will scream at him if he kisses her and I am holding her. Ugh!

(I hate to say - I have tried to guilt DH into spending more time with her on the weekends - I feel if we don't try working on this now it will get worse. SHe was more comfy with my parents when we went up to their place last week.)

Growth Spurts
kellymom.com outlines growth spurts occurring at or around a few days old, 7-10 days old, 2-3 weeks, 4-6 weeks, 3 months, 4 months, 6 months, and 9 months. So yeah, those of you December Mommies are probably embarking on a new one yourselves. Fun, no?

Sleep
For the past week, I could set a clock by Megan's sleep. Down at 8-9, up at 2-3, up again at 5. Last night though, she threw me for a total loop. Put her up to bed at 9 and she kept waking to nurse. Finally she fell asleep at midnight and didn't wake until 5.

Eyes
So funny that so many of you have dark eyes but have babies with light eyes! I was just having this conversation with someone recently and we were trying to recall the liklihood based on our foggy memory of 10th grade biology. We thought it was next to impossible. Apparently not!

LG,
I'm sorry, I wish I had some advice for you. I think you're probably doing the right thing by encouraging them to spend more time together. Can he give her her baths or something? Maybe pump a bottle a day that he can feed her?

You Dec. Mommies will soon learn I'm horrible at uploading pictures. So, here are some recents pics (they may be the last you see for a while!):

Bottle feeding - is anyone else bottle feeding, either formula or EBM? How much does your little eat and how often? Especially right before bed and how long do they sleep? TIA!

Wow. Looks like I was in good company last night! Max woke at 12:00, 2:00 and 4:00 to eat. And Noa had a horrible night the night before so I am dragging today.

Liz- love the pictures!!!

LG- Max is definitely is a mama's boy but will tolerate dh for short periods of time. IMO, I think dh plays too rough with him/overstimulates him and he doesn't tolerate it well. I hope your situation gets better.

Taz,
Not much help, but the other night when she took a bottle, she ate about 3 ounces. We put her to bed and she started crying about 10 minutes later so I nursed her for about 5 minutes as well. So, maybe 4-5 ounces total? She'll sleep for 6 hours.

LG,
Thanks, it's my favorite diaper at the moment. It's a Goodmama in Candy Stripe print.

Thanks, Shannon! Sorry for the rough two nights. Those kids need to stop ganging up on you. Hopefully tonight will be better.

Hey ladies! Happy Friday. Sorry you're dealing with nightwakings. LOL at kellymom.com--why don't they just say that the entire first 6 months is a growth spurt?? That's how I"m feeling these days :D

Bottles--G takes about 4.5oz 3 or 4 times a day while I'm at work. Today DH gave her a bottle right before I got home, and she STILL nursed. Piggy.

Liz--On the eyes, I used a website, and IIRC it was somewhere around a 10% chance! But my DH's eyes are green, so that's actually higher odds for light eyes than 2 brown eyed parents.

A is taking between 5-6 oz a day since I've been back at work. Before she would take about 4oz. I don't know what has changed, but I've been getting more when I pump and she's been eating more. But she only gets 2 bottles at daycare.

I know, I laughed at that, too. I think it's better to just resign yourself to the fact that your kids is pretty much going to be tied to you 24/7 for the first 6 months. If you get at night of sleep here and there, well that's just icing on the cake. I keep my expectations low. ;)

mkvh,
Love the pictures! You've got two beautiful little girls. :) That's pretty cool about the eyes. Show how much of my high school education I retained- I though green & blue eyes were both recessive genes.

Us
Megan was up every 2 hours to nurse again last night. Not cool. Why, you ask? Growth Spurt? Maybe. But my money is on low supply because freaking AF decided to rear her ugly head yesterday morning. Lucky me!

mkvh - those are great pics!!! We are now 3 weeks behind on our 3 month shots? SO I will aim for a slightly early 4 month session!

liz- DD has been nursing a lot more too.... I FEEL like AF is going to come... but nothing yet. I am hoping not... but it would explain things! (I started pumping this week too and by today feel my supply is coming back up a bit)

bottles- DD has only had a few, and none in over a month until Thursday... she had no urge so we need to work on that! I am freezing in 3-5 ounce increments.... I figure if that is what I can pump, that must be about what she is taking?

Us- Last Night we left DD with Grandma and went and played pool! Now, I put her to bed and we were back before her first waking at 2am. SO she didn't even know she was babysat. But it is the first time I have left her. (I almost feel bad admitting that since so many of you have been back at work!)

DH also made some progress this morning, played with her, changed her, etc. It is too bad she is so good and happy in the morning when he is at work!

Last night I went to bed at 9, DH fed her EBM and put her down at 10:15. She slept until 4:30 - yay! :D Of course he's working tonight and tomorrow night but it was nice to have the extra sleep.

I have found Adele is a little more willing to entertain herself this week. I can put her down and get a little bit more done. She's also napping pretty consistently after two hours of wakefulness which has been nice.

mkvh - LOVE the pics, how cute!

LIZNKEITH - sorry she's feeding so much. Growth spurts suck! I haven't experienced the low supply due to AF, I got an IUD after she was born and AF hasn't shown - yay!

lil_geek - I haven't left Adele yet either. We're going to go out to dinner next weekend hopefully. I'm sure its very hard.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

We had a big weekend - the boys turned four months on Friday, on Saturday they were christened and we had a huge BBQ to celebrate. I think we had 75-80 people there. Thankfully, not all at the same time, I don't think. It was really fun.

Today they started daycare. Well, Linus and Oliver did anyway. Miles is spending a few days with his grandma and aunts and uncles in Baton Rouge (75 miles away). My brother and sis and their spouses and kids came to town from all over for the christening, so I thought I'd let them borrow a triplet to hang out with. ;)

Except for the cost of daycare, I'm pretty pleased with it. We won't have to make their bottles for daycare, just bring cans of formula. And if I can work their schedule right, I don't even have to feed them before bringing them. That will save me SO MUCH time in the mornings. I just have to make sure they're not starving before 7:30. We'll see...

Here's their four month picture:

LOL at kellymom.com--why don't they just say that the entire first 6 months is a growth spurt?? That's how I"m feeling these days
hahaha ... so true!

ugh .... mila's night sleep is killing me these days. there is absolutely no consistency and i really don't know if there is anything i can change. her first stretch of sleep is the longest and can be from 4 to 6 hours. after that, it seems like she wakes every 2-3 hours. i think there are times when she's waking out of habit and isn't hungry. what bothers me most is that she was sleeping 6+ hours regularly with maybe one waking before she got sick. i don't know if it's just a coincidence or what. i know that she has a lot going on right now with discovering new things and rolling and that it can interfere with her wakings. then i wonder if she'll start to sleep better when we start her on solids? i swear, i think all of theses possible reasons that she's waking are just an attempt to buy time until they're older.

mkvh- love the photos!!! i can't wait to have professional photos taken of our two kids.

LIZ- ugh ... sorry to hear about a low supply. i'm waiting for AF. i feel super crampy lately. it has been so nice not having it! between DS and DD, i think i've had it maybe half a dozen times in the last 3.5 years.

Taz- YAY for a great night of sleep!!! i hope it continues!

i know i work from home, but i still hate monday ...

Hi everyone!

Well, we had our first long car ride, and I'm happy to report that it was quite successful! We headed up to my parents' place in NY for a welcome party for C, which is a 4-5 hour drive. On the way up, we went about 2.5 hours before we all stopped for lunch. We walked around with C for a bit, and then he went back into the car seat with minimal fussiness. On the drive back, he made it the whole way without stopping (4 hours!). It helped that I fed him right before we left, and again right when we got home.

The party went well, even though my Mom way outdid herself (yet again). C was somewhat fussy, so not as many folks got to hold him as I would have liked. But overall a success. And the best part was that C stayed on his sleeping schedule even in a new room/crib/house! Whoopie!

Sleeping - We're still pretty much sticking to the same routine - start putting C down around 7:30 when he gets to his breaking point. Asleep by 8, up around 4:30 for a diaper change and feeding, up again around 7 for the day. Last night we had an additional waking at midnight, but the poor guy has a big weekend, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

Bottle amount - I've been sending DS to daycare with 3 bottles, each 4 oz. plus or minus, depending on what I pumped the day before. He's also getting some formula when he wants more, so it's all trial and error here.

Eye color - Both DH and I have blue eyes, as does DS. We're just assuming his will stay blue (although I know that can change).

Pelican - OMG, I don't even want to think about what your daycare bill will be - ours is big enough for just one! I think most daycares will make formula bottles themselves (b/c it's so perishable), but it's a great perk - one (or in your case, three) less thing to do!

Mama - Yep, Mondays just suck, no matter what you do! Hope you get some longer sleep stretches soon!

Taz - Isn't it great when you can get a good stretch of sleep? Hope that Adele's sleeping streak continues!

LG - C is so happy in the morning as well - I think it's b/c he starts out so refreshed. As the day goes on and his naps get less, he gets more fussy. Luckily, DH helps out in the morning and evening (we carpool together), so he sees both sides!

Liz - BOO to AF! I'm so not looking forward to her return!

mkvh - OMG, too cute!! I'm still waiting to see our pics from our 3 month sitting - the photographer is due with #2 anyday now, so it may be awhile!

Whew - I think I caught up! YAY for an active thread again!

Thanks everyone for your compliments on the pics!

Liz--Both ARE recessive, but since we each have two genes for eyes, it's a roll of the dice which one you pass on. And green is, I guess "more" recessive than blue?

Every 2 hours? Oh, how that SUCKS. Sorry about AF. That sucks too!

LG--Don't sweat the bottles! If she gets hungry enough, she'll take them. G takes them 2.5 days a week and WOULD NOT take one from me on Saturday. Too funny. I am freezing in 4-4.5oz increments right now. So what you're doing sounds right. Glad to hear that pumping is going pretty well now.

Taz--Yay for good night sleep AND good naps. Makes a momma happy (and mentally healthy!). I'm sorry to hear that you had to move to EP, but I'm glad that it seems to be working for you so far.

pelican--OMG...they are unbelievably cute! And SO identical. Crazy. EEK! Daycare! I hope it goes well. How funny that you lent one of them out :D Glad to hear the christening went well. G's baptism is Sunday.

MaMa--Unfortunately, M's sleep sounds pretty normal to me. Have you thought of nursing her (dream feed) before YOU go to bed? That may buy you a few hours...

LC--Yaaaay for a good traveler! We took both girls at about a month and keep on doing it. I swear that starting them early gets them used to it. C (21m) is a MUCH better rider than my sister's kids who are 3.5 and 7. And so glad that the party was fun.

Leaving the LOs--I personally think that thinking about leaving is much worse than the actual leaving! I miss my girls so much when I'm not with them, but it's often a welcome break. Especially if it's quality time with my DH!

Both girls are sleeping, and I'm breathing a sigh of relief before I do laundry and pick up and unload the dishwasher. I did put G in a 6-9m outfit for story time today. Good grief is she getting big! People remark on her size all. the. time. Like the random old man at the playground yesterday saying, "Wow...she doesn't miss a meal." NICE. She outweighs our friends' son who is a month older by at least 2 lbs and our friends' daughter who is 3 weeks older buy a LOT more than that.

What I'm loving is how interactive she has gotten just in the last week. Cooing or squealing to get your attention and then laughing when she does. We're working on sitting up since we have zero interest in rolling over and detest tummy time.

YES! DD is EXACTLY that way. I had her at mom's circle today and a bunch of babes where on their tummies, she would have nothing to do, but was sitting up as well as a 6 month old! Oh well, I rather have a sitter then a roller!!!!

Rolling vs. sitting - OK, too funny! I have a roller, and it's getting scary now! C now sleeps on his tummy every.night. In fact, I place him in his crib on his back, he whimpers until he flips over, then sleeps all night with his butt in the air. It's very cute! But sitting up - not so much. He flops to one side or the other pretty quickly!

Hey everybody! Haven't been able to get online for a couple of days..wow this thread moves fast! So exciting! DD and I are up at my parents' house for a visit this week. I flew with her (and was by myself) for the first time. It's a good thing the flight is only 1 hour. I guess in a few years I'll look back and laugh but let's just say there were tears on both of our parts :( She screamed from pretty much "We will take the A boarding group now" until "We are now starting our descent". Would not nurse, take a paci, nothing..poor guy sitting next to us. :-) Rough start but have had a great trip other than that!

STTN - we are definitely not yet. Some nights she'll give us a good chunk of time but others it's like an all night- all you can eat buffet. I am hoping to start the transition to her room soon because I truly believe that we are both waking each other up and contributing to not sleeping. Her bedroom is on a different floor than us (master on 1st floor) so it's probably going to be harder on me to transition but I am feeling it's getting to be that time.

Rolling - we had a freak tummy to back occurrence a couple of weeks ago but haven't seen it since. She's been trying to do back to tummy for a long time but can't seem to get over that arm.

I have a lot of catching up to do here. Things have been crazy when I am home and work cut me off again from CC!

QOTD: Anyone suspecting early teething? Could this really be, Eva was never displayed many of the common associations with teething, but Sophia is sucking on her hands, slobbering, started running a slight fever yesterday and we finally have poops everyday now that are quite runny. She has a well visit on Friday, so I will surely ask the ped to take a look. Is 4 months too early???

Alright, I'm off to console! This working from home with her here isn't working out as well as I had planned!

LG,
She's got great control! My mom and I were just talking this past weekend that we think Megan will be ready for the Bumbo seat soon. I don't think she's quite there yet though.

Tgal,
My nephew cut his first tooth at 4 months so it's definitely not too early.

Teething
Megan has been drooling a ton and biting her hands. I would normally suspect teething, but Caroline didn't cut her first tooth until 9 or 10 months old though and would think Megan will likely be a late teether too. I guess it could be though.

Us
Took Megan to the Ped today. her eyes are still really gross. He retracted his last diagnosis of conjunctivitis and diagnosed her with a blocked duct. We have to take her to the opthamologist on the 30th. :(

Teething E is sucking her hands like mad! Chewing on them almost and drooling... but I doubt it is teeth (though I know some 4 month olds with teeth). I was nearly 10 months when I got my first.

Mama I love your new avatar! And I hadn't commented, but your family picture is adorable! I told DH we really need to get on that - we haven't taken one since Abigail was about 6 months old! (I'm sure I missed others - )

I thought of you as soon as I read this:
"At around 3 months, most babies begin drooling and chewing on anything they can reach. This teething behavior is a developmental stage and doesn't mean a tooth is errupting. On the average, the first tooth arrives at between 6 and 8 months. Hard rubber toys make good teething devices. Many conditions have been blamed on teething but aside from making the baby fussy as the tooth errupts, there is little evidence that teething produces other symptoms."

It is from the "growth and development" sheet our ped gives out at infant visits. I don't know where the info is from, so take it with a grain of salt... :)

Eden had her 4 month visit yesterday. DH had to take her because I just couldn't get away from work. :( Seems as though she's healthy - she weighs 12lb 13oz and is 23 3/4" long. I don't know percentages. I think she's remaining smaller then Abigail at this age, but bigger then Tallia. DH said the doc didn't say much, other then she looks good. DD #1 was also there for her pre-kindergarten appointment, so it sounds like her appointment sort of took over. Eden is finally mellowing out - I think we've FINALLY moved through the 4 month spurt (THANK YOU Liz for posting that info from Kellymom - I didn't realize there was a spurt at 4 months, and I'm sure that's what was going on last week and the week before!). I am so excited to say that she is still EBF - a huge milestone for us! Usually by this point, we're having to supplement already. I have no problem whatsoever with formula, but it is my personal goal to get to 6 months EBF. My baby step is now to make it to 5 months - only 3 1/2 weeks to go!! :D

Sorry I've been so absent - I can't access at work, and I've been working late this week trying desperately to catch up. Hoping to get on a bit this weekend!

Shannon - I was just coming to post that!! EEK!!! But I knew it was coming - I got my BFP on 4/15. (And I heart your avatar!)

Sonya - DS is also a drooling/hand chewing machine. Folks keep saying he must be teething, but I just think it's something all babies do around this age.

LG and Jenah - I have a peanut too!! At his 3 month WBV he only weighed 10 lbs, 8 oz. (but was 24 inches long, so he's into his 3 months clothes for that reason).

Liz - Ugh on a blocked duct. Hope it's an easy fix!

Us - Well, I successfully managed a one-day business trip. I managed to pump 3 times (twice in an airport, once at a hotel) and did just fine. C was with my MIL and a cousin the past few days, and he did great!! He's turning into quite a charmer - he laughs at anything/anyone. Now, if only I (and daycare) could get him to nap! And not get up at midnight (in addition to 4 am)!

Liz- I meant to tell you that Noa has has had blocked ducts (both eyes) since birth. Her's aren't goopy though. They just tear up a lot. We waited on surgery right away since they weren't *that* bad and the opthomologist said they will usually open on their own. Noa's never did and just recently they've been tearing a lot and starting to get a little goopy so we have an appt the beginning of May and will pursue surgery. As scary as any surgery can be, I think it is very commonplace and not a big deal...like 15 minutes and they're done.

LC- very impressive on the business trip! I hear ya on the night wakings. I honestly think Max would be close to STTN if it weren't for his darn gas.

Back from the ped visit! It went fine, for the most part, except for one questionable measurement and two blow-outs.

Their new stats are:
Linus: 14#9.5oz (50th); 25" long (50th); HC 41.5cm (25-50th)
Oliver: 14#11oz (50th); 24.5" long (25-50th); HC 43.5cm (50-75th)
Miles: 13#15oz (25-50th); 24.25" long (25-50th); HC 42cm (50th)

Last month, they were:
Linus: 12 lbs, 14.5 oz (25-50th percentile); 23.75" long (25-50th percentile)
Oliver: 13 lbs, 5 oz (50th percentile); 23.75" long (25-50th percentile)
Miles: 12 lbs, 7.5 oz (25th percentile); 22.75" long (10th percentile)

I don't have their head circumference measurements from last month written down, and I wish I did. The doctor was concerned because Oliver jumped from I think the 25th percentile last time to almost the 75th this time. Big jump, which could indicate some yucky things. The other boys had smaller jumps in HC though, so she's probably going to let us wait it out a month. If it jumps again next month, they'll have to sedate him and do a CT scan. :( My poor little monkey! I really hope this is just a one-off thing, and nothing sinister. She's going to talk it over with the other peds in the practice, and hopefully they won't think it's too big of a deal either.

Otherwise, they're healthy and growing and all that good stuff. Poor guys were all smiley and "goo"ing at the doctor, right up until the moment she stuck them with the needles for their shots. Awww!

Miles and Linus decided they wanted to have blow-outs. Fun! It's a rare occurance for them, and I suspect it's to do with the Target diapers I send to daycare for them. Oh well, that's what I get for trying to save some $$! :o

sdauer: Thanks for posting that info. I was hoping this wasn't the case, yet, because I fear this one is going to be a biter!

We had Sophia's 4 mo well visit today. I can't remember her length for the life of me. She weighed in at 14 lb 3oz (75%) and here I was wondering if my supply was enough for her:p!

He's bigger than my 4 1/2 month old. (I'm not calling him big, he's not, AT ALL!) I mean, I know mine was at 36 weeks and all, but I can only use that excuse for just so long!

Man, I thought I'd get more internet time once I went back to work.

Shannon,
Thank you for sharing Noa's experience. I'm sorry that they're getting worse. I know a few friends who have had it done on their kids and they said it was a very quick & easy procedure. I guess the only thing I'm really concerned about is anesthesia. It scares me so much when they are this little. :(

Pam,
I hope things check out with Oliver's HC at his next appointment? Maybe they just caught him at the start of a growth spurt? I've got two nephews that were sent for scans because of their big heads. Turns out boys in our family just have big heads! :P

LC,
So cute! He looks like such a happy little guy.

Us
Still in the land of perpetual sleeplessness. Is anyone's babe still "sleeping" like a newborn? Megan is STILL waking up every two hours at night. I wanted to pop DH this morning for complaining that he "only got 5 hours of sleep last night as he was up doing our taxes. Ugh...what I wouldn't give for 5 hours of sleep. He should know better than to complain to me about sleep. I've only STTN once in the past 13 weeks.

Tomorrow is Megan's appointment with the Opthamologist. We were able to get it moved up because the corners of her eyes were getting raw from all the tearing. Keith's taking her since I have to work. I want to go, but I can't really take time after only being back a week.

Liz- Man I feel for you with the sleeplessness and going back to work. I wouldn't say Max is sleeping like a newborn but he is still waking twice most nights to eat. Last week was a HORRID week of sleep due to gas...up all the time crying and hard to get back down. Thankfully the past few nights have been better.

LC- cute little man!!

Immobility has left the building...he's now rolling from back to tummy all the time. He's also blowing bubbles lately which is super cute. :)

Here too! Then she gets stuck on her tummy and can't roll back and gets mad - its pretty cute! Last night was a bad sleeping night, I'm hoping it was just a one night thing and she'll be back to 10-6 tonight. Fingers crossed! :o

He's also blowing bubbles lately which is super cute. :)

We're doing that here too! Love the bubbles! Not mobile yet but she's definitely working on it.

Sleep - Cate will sleep these days from 10-3. I get up for work around 515. It SUCKS. I wish she'd sleep 10-2 so that I could sleep from like 230-515 or so. That would be much better. This morning she slept from 10-4 and then I had to feed her and then pretty much start my day. It didn't help that Alex woke his little self up at 430! WTH? My kids are such early risers!

Cate is so snotty these days. This morning, she must have sneezed like 10 times on our way to day care (it's like a 10 minute drive, maybe 15) and I couldn't wipe her because it's mostly highway. When we pulled up to the daycare, she was covered in snot! :o Poor little girlie! Her blanket was too! It was cute and disgusting at the same time!

She's also developing into quite a curious child...probably because she's #2 and sees Alex running around like a madman most days. At daycare, they have to rock her to sleep and she still won't - she wants to watch everyone. Sometimes it takes her over 30 minutes to take her bottle because she gets distracted by the other kiddos! We're going to have our hands full. Alex wasn't like that - he was so focused on his meal!

Sleep - Oh boy, we're still having rough nights here. C was only getting up once for a few weeks, but now we're back to 2 or 3 times a night. Sigh. He's getting so good about going to sleep at 8 - it's like clockwork, but then we have no idea when his next waking will be. And he's NOT a good napper at daycare at all - on a good day, he'll sleep for an hour or so in the morning. I'm hoping we'll get him on a better schedule soon!

Mobility and bubbles - Yes and yes!! I need to use the changing table strap every change, b/c he's constantly trying to roll over. And he's all over his crib at night - sleeping on his back, side, stomach - doesn't matter.

Liz - Hope the dr. appt. goes well - poor DD.

We also had her baptism. If I can get my house picked up, I will post some pics later...

Hello ladies!! Sorry I've been MIA! Basically DH rebooted the computer and CC lost my info....

WBV: 15lbs!!! Same weight as his brother was at four months!

Rolling/cooing/moving: Luca is all over the place, I swear he thinks he's much older than he is!! He rolls, and when we prop him upright he often leans in whichever direction he sees fit!

He adores his big brother and coos and seems to call for him! He giggles and smiles at all he does!

Sleep:He was STTN for awhile there...but no more : ( He seems to have allergies, and suffers with a stuffy nose nightly! He was up 5x's last night...I thought he was hungry-so I prepared a bottle(rather wasted) and he just needed to be propped.

Work: I go back on the 28th........not dreading it, but not looking forward to it!

STTN - nope, no way! Some nights I'll get a stretch of 4 hours but after that she's up every 2 hours to eat. I've sort of just gotten used to it. Coffee is my best friend. She has recently decided that 6am is the PERFECT wakeup time.

Rolling - she won't stay on her tummy now, the rolling fool! She did a freak back to tummy the other day but I think it'll be a couple of weeks until it's regular. She still gets stuck on that arm underneath her.

I start back to work on May 5th. Am sad, but glad to get to a new "normal" and established routine with daycare and such.

She's up to 16lbs now!

Sleep
Yup, LC, Megan was doing the same thing: was only waking up once a night for a while, but has been waking up 2+ times a night for the past two weeks. I suppose I should be grateful she's easy to get back to sleep as she's only up for 15 minutes or so. But man, I need my REM sleep. Check out last night's schedule: Woke at 11:30, 1:30, 2:30, & 4:30. I had to get up for work at 5:00. If she pulls that mess again, I think I'll just let DH give her a bottle.

Rolling & Blowing Bubbles?
Nope, and nope. I did get the sweetest laugh ever this afternoon though. :D

Dr.'s Appointment
The Dr. looked her over and said her eyes are developing right on track and that her vision is good. He did confirm that her ducts are blocked. He taught Keith how to "massage" the area (which we've been doing, but doing wrong- I've been lightly rubbing the corners with the tip of my finger. The actual "massage" is almost a pulling from the corner of the eye, down the nose. She HATES it) twice a day, 10 times on each side and prescribed drops for particularly goopey days. If it's not cleared up by the time she's 6 months old, they'll do the probing. He feels confident she'll outgrow it, but scheduled us for a follow up on August 20th. If her eyes are clear, we'll just cancel the appointment. If she's still having problems, we'll go forward with the surgery.

So, I'm happy we're not jumping to surgery right away and that we've been doing everything we need to do and hope that she grows out of it in the coming months.

LC- What a cutie!

Liz- William usually has been sleeping pretty decent. (Not this week though) but I can totally understand the DH frustration. Dan has said things like that to me before. Hello...I'm tired too.

STTN- William was sleeping 9-3 and then back to sleep from 3:30-6:30, but this week he's been all over the place and he won't nap either!

Rolling/bubblesWe've had bubbles over here for awhile. No rolling yet, but he definitely wants to.

Work- I start back this Sunday (4/20) I am very sad about it. I'm going to be an absolute wreck all day on Sunday...probably on Saturday too... :( I'm glad that at least I'm working only 2 days a week, but still 12 hour days are so long to be without my boy and finding time to pump at work is going to be difficult. There were days before I left that I wouldn't get a break except for a short on the run lunch. ugh.

US- Help! He won't stop crying and fussing!... I didn't think Colic was supposed to start at 11 weeks!! I have no clue what is bothering him because NOTHING works! He cries when he's playing, when he's being held, as soon as I lay him down for a nap, while he's eating, and sometimes even while he's smiling at the same time WTH!!??!!

Liz - ooh, a laugh! I'm jealous! I think Oliver laughed the other day (and not at me, but at our friend's 3 year old) but he hasn't repeated it.

No rolling or anything like that either, but last night Miles seemed a bit like he might be attempting it soon. Aww!

Last night I went to a Mother of Triplets club meeting and was talking to the two other moms who had their babies around when I had mine (the other ones that were on the news, if you saw the story) and one (the quad mom) has started on rice cereal with hers. I think we're going to try with the boys this weekend. Just to see. If they don't go for it, that's okay, but I want to try.

STTN - no, not yet. I know it's supposedly an OWT, but I'm really hoping the rice cereal helps. They're certainly big enough to STTN, but they're just so hungry when they wake up at 3:30 to eat. Who knows. Fingers crossed.

Work - I've been back at work for almost a month now. It was hard the first few days, but as someone who loves a routine, it's been somewhat of a relief. Instead of trying to guess what my day will be like, I pretty much know. I get up at 6:30, shower, feed and play with C, we all leave around 8, drop off C, go to work, pump at 10, 1, and 4, pick up C around 5:30, then all head home and play until bedtime around 8. Whew!

Laughing - C has been laughing for quite a while now - we have a video up on our blog dated January 18 where we caught one of his early laughs on camera. Now he just giggles all of the time, which is such fun!!

Liz - Yay for not needing surgery! Hope that it stays that way!

Jeneca - My only guess was going to be gas. That's why C is fussy.

Pelican - Wow, rice cereal?!? How did our babies get to be 4 months already?!?

Us - Well. we're heading out for a big adventure this evening - we're flying down to Florida for Passover to visit DH's family . We're hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. We're due to take off at 8 pm, which is C's bed time, so maybe he'll just nurse and sleep through, but I'm not expecting that to happen. Wish us luck!

Wow, I can't believe we have babies in here starting on solids. I'm in complete denial that she's growing up. Maybe it's because she may be my last, but I feel like I infantize her so much more than I did with DD1. With DD1 I was always looking forward to the next big milestone. With Megan, I want to keep her tiny forever. I'm sure she's going to love me for that when she's 13. ;)

I don't think we'll be starting solids for a while. Caroline had an egg allergy that she fortunately grew out of a few months ago. Since we have a history of allergies, I'll be doing a delayed schedule with Megan in hopes of trying to avoid similar issues with her.

LC
Good luck with the flight! I'm sure he'll be an angel. Just nurse or give a paci at takeoff/landing. We took our first flight with C when she was just shy of 4 months- cross country. She actually did really well and slept the entire flight (both there and back). I think the hum of the plane lulled her to sleep. People were coming up to us as we were exiting the plane remarking on how well behaved she was. I was just as surprised as they were, trust me. Flying really didn't become difficult for us until this past year. Once they are toddlers it's a whole new ballgame.
Oh, one good tip we learned. Pack several ziploc freezer bags with one of each of the following items placed in it: 1 diaper, 1-2 wipes in a smaller bag, a disposable changing pad, and 1 scented diaper disposal bag. When it comes time to do a diaper change, just grab the big ziploc. It's easier than lugging the whole diaper bag to the lavatory.

LC- Wow you're more brave than me. I'm already dreading taking him on a plane and we don't plan to do that until October (maybe...if we can get time off) I hope it went well! I'm sure as long as you can get him through takeoff he'll probably sleep the rest of the flight.

Good morning all.

I took little A on her first flight Wednesday morning (a 5 hour flight). She was AWESOME! I was soooooooo nervous, but she did great. People on the flight were telling me how great she was. She and I met DH in Vegas (he was already traveling for business and was going to be here for a conference so we tagged along). Fortunately we will all be traveling together on the way back so I'll have an extra set of arms...lol

She has her 4mo appt next week. I can't wait to see how much she weighs!

Congrats to those who are STTN. We are nowhere near. But she usually only wakes up to eat and then right back to sleep. She was a bit off the first day we got to Vegas (she wouldn't sleep until I put her in the room and made it VERY dark), but since then she's ok...she's on an East Coast schedule, much to DH's dismay...lolol

Jeneca - Hope your first day wasn't too bad - and that you had time to pump!! If I don't pump within a 4-hour window (I normally pump every 3 hours), I feel as if I'm going to explode!

Webdiva - Major kudos to you for flying solo with DD. Glad she did so well!

Us - We had a great time in Florida! C did OK with the flight down, better with the flight back. He nursed, slept a little, and fussed a little. Good thing it's only a 2.5 hour flight. We had so much fun with all of the relatives - and it was great to play the "pass the baby" game - I only needed to deal with nursing (oh, and the early morning wakeup since everyone else was sleeping ). Last night he was up a bit more than usual, but nothing out of the ordinary.

We also found out that he can feed himself a bottle ! WHen we put it in his hands, he was able to feed himself (and pull the bottle in and out of his mouth)! And we repeated it again on the plane. He's also getting more fascinated by watching us eat and drink (when he's not asleep) - I guess we're slowly getting closer to the solid food stage?

We're having major nap issues over here. He wakes from the majority of his naps screaming only after 30-45 min of sleep (from gas pains I think:confused:) and not well-rested. But it is impossible to get him back to sleep at this point so I usually let him up for awhile and try again later, at which time he's overtired and SCREAMS instead of falling asleep. We do a naptime routine which usually works fine unless he is overtired...which occurs a lot these days. With a toddler around, I do not have the time or ability to rock him to sleep each time. It's so frustrating.

Shannon - E only naps 45-1 hour always. And for the most part she wakes up more cranky then when I put her down :( no suggestions.

Taz - we are on twice a week.... and I admit there have been a few weeks we have only had one. I use cloth dipes and wipes, so she gets a real 'wash down' when I change her and in the morning so I feel she is clean enough!

We bathe every day here. Mostly because it relaxes them and I feel like maybe they sleep better. Not necessarily true, but maybe.

Naps are a little harder to track, esp since they're in daycare. At home, they nap a little bit between each feeding, with a few longer stretches. It really just depends.

This afternoon, we will be trying cloth diapers for the first time. I'm excited to see how they work out! I haven't raised the subject with daycare, and I'm not brave enough to try them at night yet, so they'll get minimal use during the week. Still...fun!

LC--Glad for the great trip!

Shannon--I think right now is a baaaad age for napping. They're trying to consolidate their day sleep, and it's not an easy task. MIL said G only napped in 15 minute increments all afternoon and was miserable. We're starting to get a NICE long nap in the morning, but afternoons are a crapshoot. We're still napping in the swing a lot. Are you following the no-more-than-2-hour rule?

Baths--Yup, once or twice a week with aggressive wipedowns in between. We're deep in the throes of neck funk, though.

Going for G's 3m pics a little late. Can't wait!

Naps - Ditto to what everyone else has said. The morning nap is usually pretty regular and long. The rest of the naps, no predictability and usually short. I know that he really only gets a good morning nap in at daycare - too many things going on!

Baths - We're also on the 2x week schedule. We do have to do many neck wipedowns though. I can't wait until the constant spitup ends!

Pelican - I can't believe you manage to give your boys a bath every night. And now, cloth diapers?!? You're such my mom idol!!

Weekend plans? - I think we're heading out to get C a "big boy" stroller. We've been using the snap n go, but he did so well in the cheap umbrella stroller in Florida we ready to upgrade him. I think DH is sold on the Baby Jogger City Series, since it has the easiest fold, but there are so many choices. Wish us luck!

I don't know why I can't keep up in here! I just am lazy I guess!

E is 4 months old last Monday. She is growing like a 'sunflower', but is still a little peanut (umm, not even 13 pounds according to our scale) and she is short too! But I think that just adds to her charm! She has a personality you wouldn't believe! Has been playing shy for over 2 months now! I need to start leaving her with others more so she can work it out I think!

She laughs and chats with us and that is fun!

Here is a recent pic I took last weekend... we went to Ottawa to visit my sister. E was an ANGEL when we went out to the patio in the afternoon and to dinner that night.

l_c - don't be too impressed. it's not like they're getting a long, leisurely soak. it's more like *dunk* and go. :)

lilgeek - i ordered that same HH! in fact, it came today, can't wait to try those out. love the cow print. :D

yesterday afternoon we tried out the BGs for the first time. so far, so good! i posted this pic on the CDing thread.

(yes, i buttoned their clothes up after the pic. but boy do these diapers make them pear-shaped, ha ha!

i wish my boys laughed. i'm starting to get worried that they're developmentally delayed because of being preemies. i have to remember, though, that they're only 3 months old, adjusted. it's hard to remember that sometimes because size-wise, they're right on track for their actual age.

I don't think that laughing is necessarily a developmental milestone. The moms at mothers circle couldn't believe she was laughing so much. And the one mom said her DD (6 months) just is a serious kid! I see some big smiles with the new dipes though ;)

Pam.... don't worry about the laughing! I don't think it's a developmental milestone. Smiling is - and look at the chubby grin! :D

thanks for the reassurance, ladies. :) i hope they laugh soon, but i'm glad to know it's not necessarily a milestone for them to reach. they definitely do smile. :)

Hi Ladies!

I've been a long time lurker of this thread, but really want to join. I'm terrible at shout outs, so I apologize in advance if I don't do them. That's actually the reason I didn't join earlier because I feel bad for not doing shout outs, but when I do do them, it takes me forever (and you know how sparse time can be with an infant).

Welcome Angie & Abigail - she's adorable! I'm bad at SO's too so don't feel bad.

Adele has a new blog, we've decided this is the best way to keep family & friends updated: Adele's blog (http://adeleem.blogspot.com/)

Hope everyone's enjoying their weekend, we woke up to a dusting of snow.

Shannon - looking at your avatar, Max and Abby look like they could be brother and sister...little chunky monkeys. :)

Taz - the blog is such a good idea! You've inspired me to start one for Abby. It'll be nice for the family to get more regular updates and will prevent me from having to repeat the same information over and over again each time I talk to another family member.

Us - ABBY SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT FOR THE LAST 2 NIGHTS!!!! Can you tell I'm excited? I'm hoping, praying, and crossing my fingers that it was not just a fluke. On Thursday night she was up twice, Friday night was three times and Saturday and Sunday night ZERO! I have decided that mother nature is cruel, though. Even through Abby slept until 8, I woke up at 5 in pain because my breasts felt like they were about to explode (I had fed her at 8 pm the night before...so 12 hours).

Abby's getting to be a lot of fun. She's smiling, cooing, and squealing a lot these days. She still has her super fussy time in the evenings, which I'm hoping will go away one of these days. Naps are getting a little better. She takes a pretty good nap in the mornings, but the others are more sporadic. I can tell she's tired, but as soon as I try to put her in her crib, she's awake and crying.

Alright..I can hear her fussing in the other room!

Angie - Welcome! Don't worry too much about SOs - we all do what we can! What a cutie you have there (and a chubster - I'm jealous)!

Tazluv - We love blogging to keep everyone up to date on C's life. Of course, that also means that we have to keep the blog up to date! Now, if only our family would go there instead of emailing and complaining that we haven't sent out pictures :eyerolls:

Pelican - OK, now you're cloth diapering?!? Seriously, woman, you put the rest of us to shame!! (and that is a fabulous picture of them all)

Us - Had a busy, but productive weekend. Saturday C got up early (what else is new). He was up at 6:30, so I nursed him and then played while DH went to the food store (we had no food in our house). I did laundry while C took a fairly short nap. That afternoon, we headed out shopping for lots of new baby gifts (yep, it's a baby boom among our friends) and went stroller shopping. We didn't get anything, b/c our choice was out of stock!! (The Baby Jogger City Mini) Guess we'll order that online!

C slept through the night Saturday (from 8:30 until 6:30 or so). After he got up, we could see that he was congested. So we put him in the swing for his morning nap, and we all slept from 8:30 until 10:30 - so nice! We did lots of cleaning/organization around the house; unfortunately, we've only really hit 3 rooms so far. C really wasn't feeling well - he took a 3 hour afternoon nap when he normally only takes short afternoon naps. When we went to put him down to bed for the night, he did not want to sleep in his crib, but fell right asleep in the swing, where he slept all night until just before 6. I nursed him, and he went back down for another hour or so. I just hope his congestion clears up soon - he's supposed to get his 4-month shots on Wednesday!

Hes got red hair. I did too as a baby--now am blonde. Hes got a great personality. Super calm, happy, giggly, and super social. Goes to bed at 7ish, up for the day at like 7ish...then naps 45 mins at a time. Has about an hour and a half between waking and next nap.

welcome Rachel and Angie!

Such cuties we have in this thread!

And big babies! They all make E seem so tiny! I love it, I tell her 'daddy' could put her in his pocket. She is maybe pushing 13 pounds!

Naps have been bliss! I have been working on getting her in her crib for them more consistently. Over the weekend we did good, even with company on Sunday she went into her crib for 4 naps! (2 were shorter and likely should have been one long one). Today she had 2 GREAT naps (2 hours!! Now, one involved me bringing her into my bed after an hour because I wasn't ready to get up!!!)

Teething Anyone? I don't think E is yet, but she is a drool machine! And has to have something in her mouth at all times (which doesn't help the drool!). She gets mad if she can't keep something in there!

aaahhh ... dinner's in the oven and Mila's down for a quick nap while DS is still sleeping through his! a quiet moment for me to sit these days is nothing short of a miracle. thought i would take advantage of the time to pop back in!

night sleep- lots of sleep issues with mila after she had her cold and she's still waking up twice a night, but i'll take it. it really is just a quick feed and back to sleep. although, i just 'know' that she doesn't need the 2nd feed. she barely eats and just falls back to sleep. i've decided that she is just a cuddler/lover and needs the extra attention. no problem since i know how quickly this time will go by and i'll wish i had it back. ;)

naps- she is doing AWESOME with naps. most are still about 45-hour, but she has had a few recently that were an hour and a half or so. all are taken in her crib.

bathing- every night. it's a part of her bedtime routine.

teething- did i ever mention that she was born with two teeth??? i about freaked when i saw them. the nurse told me that they are called "milk teeth" and should dissolve over time. i can still barely see them, but they're there! hahaha!!!! lots of drooling going on, but i don't think it's teething. i think she's just in the oral phase ... everything in the mouth (including her feet).

solids- yes, i have started solids with her!:eek: i know! crazy! a few days before she was 4 months old she started to show major interest in our food and i really felt horrible eating in front of her. i decided to go for it. she is so strong, has almost perfect head control, and is HUGE! she's a little delayed in her vax, so we haven't done the official 4 months weigh in, but my scale shows her at about 16.5 - 17 lbs and insanely long. she had no problem swallowing and pushing back the food. so far i've given her pears, apples, sweet potatoes and peas. i make their baby food. she loves it all! i'm hoping i luck out with another non-picky eater.

crawling- she spends tons of time up on all fours, rocking back and forth, so i'm constantly waiting for her to take off! LOL!

okay ... i hear DS waking! BBL to hopefully post photos!

welcome to Rachel and Angie!!! the babies are gorgeous! keep the photos coming!

Had our 4 mo. WBV yesterday (a bit late). C now weighs 13.5 lbs and is 24 1/2 in "tall" (both in the 25th percentile), so we have a little peanut. Is ahead of most milestones, so we were happy about that. Got 4 shots :(, but he was a trooper and did fine. He's battling a bit of a cold, which is a bummer when he vomits b/c of all the mucus he's swallowing. I've been drenched twice (both times in the middle of the night - not fun!)

LG - We're right there with you with a small baby. It's easier in some ways - still easy to carry in the infant bucket seat and not too heavy!

Mama2D - wow, solids?!? I'm so not here yet. We got the solids handout from the ped., but I don't think we'll be trying anything for another month or so. And born with 2 teeth - yikes!

Rachel - Welcome!! Great to have another new face in here. And what a (big) cutie!

ShanonWhat a cutie!! We are in 12 mos in most (gap, old navy, carters)!
Its wierd since Sams wearing the same clothes DS1 wore at 9 -12 mos! They were an ounce different at birth (both at 39 weeks, 8lb11 and 8 lb 12) and stayed exactly the same size till 2.5 mos but now Sam is soaring past him weight wise but is shorter.

mkvh Cant wait to see pics!

For moms of 2--whats your bedtime routine?? We currently do-
Dinner downstairs at like 5:30
Go upstairs at 6:15ish--Bath, brush teeth-I put them both in the tub togehter (sam in the mesh chair), Do sam first, then take sam out, dry him/diaper/lotion and put him in the bouncy in the bathroom while I bathe Ben. Then we all go to Sams room to get him in his jammies and sleepsack--then in bens room for his.
We all lay in Bens bed (he has a full) and do 2 books.
Then we all lay down in his bed, me between the 2--Sam nursing and Ben cuddling my back.
Once Ben is sleeping (takes like 2 minutes), I take Samto his room and if hes sleepy he goes right in the crib.If not, we nurse in the rocking chair and then into the crib.
Sam is in the crib around 7:30 or so.

Hello ladies!

I'm back to work--and the drama begins there. Lot's of the other teachers(mostly the women) are giving me a hard time about returning so late in the school year. FWIW: it's sort of a dry run of what it'll be like in the fall, and whether or not I want to commit to another school year with two children so close in age. Considering that I've never given anyone any trouble--people can be harsh. :( It was hard enough as it was!!!

Bedtime for two:

It has recently changed a bit. The bab eats around 6ish...then up for bath at 6:30, we change/read a book/finish the earlier bottle, then down for bed by seven.

I get my older son up for bath by 7:15-7:30, do his bedtime routine(same for both boys) then he's down. Luckily so far DS#2 is sound asleep for DS#1's bedtime routine.

ALthough the baby does wake around 9pm for a feeding.......because he's not STTN : (

Well have to go get teh family ready for my cousin's communion : )

BTW: Shannon: what a handsome fellow!! His eyes are piercing!!

gelfnrach - welcome, we are a CD'ing family too - all BG 3.0's here.

WebDiva - glad your 4 month appointment went well, Adele did better with her shots then she did at 2 months as well.

lil_geek - I'm surprised at how little Adele still is too, I guess its strange for her to actually be wearing the sizes she should be instead of being in larger sizes. Teething - Adele is drooling a lot too, her doc said its most likely not teething just yet. I hope the growth spurt has subsided.

MaMa2D - I still don't know how those of you with more then one do it! Crawling - we're not there yet, Adele is great about steadily propping up on her elbows but hasn't gotten her knees under her yet.

Loud_curly - ours sound very similar in size, Adele is still just a little smaller though

ShannonGH - I love the new picture, how long does he sit in his bumbo? I just got one for Adele but after about 5 minutes she starts arching her back, I'm thinking about taking it back??

newmommy - so sorry about your work stress, I can't imagine going back was easy and I'm sure that makes it 100% harder. Hang in there!

Not a lot new with Adele, she's sleeping like a champ at night going down somewhere between 9 and 10 and sleeping until somewhere between 6 and 8. We're now working on putting her down when she is still just barely awake so that she'll soother herself, she's doing pretty well with it.

Naps - today she took two long naps which is a first, however she took them both on her STOMACH. I'm just a little nervous about her sleeping on her stomach, but then again I'm Ms. Paranoid. Are any of yours sleeping on their stomach? Everything says once they can roll there they can roll back but she can't or at least hasn't. Then I'm worried about the bumper but DH is more worried about the hard sides of the crib??

I hardly get by much these days, between the 3 kids and work. :(

It sounds weird to say Welcome when I'm hardly here, but Welcome Rachel and Angie! (Angie - I have an Abigail, too, but she's 2 1/2!)

We're plugging along here - I'm so excited that Eden is still EBF!! It's the longest we've gone without formula, and I'm starting to think we might just make it to the end of the school year (6 more weeks!!)! She's growing and chubbing out, so I know she's getting enough to eat. Monday's are the only days she's at daycare all day, and her provider gives her 2 bottles during the day. At home, with DH, she only takes 1/day. I have no stash to speak of, so it's touch and go most of the time, but I'm squeeking by! We haven't started solids yet, mostly for convenience sake. I'm trying to hold out until summer, too, but she's getting very interested in what we're eating, so I don't know if we'll make it that long.

Naps: DH really has her on a great schedule during the week - she goes down for an hour or so around 9:30, then an afternoon nap around 12:30 or 1. In the afternoon, I think she sleeps around 2 hours or more. I'm not doing a very good job about keeping her on that schedule during the weekend (DH works days on the weekend), but I think that's what he does.

Bedtime for 2 (or 3): Dinner's around 5:30-6. E often takes a catnap for 45 minutes or so around this time. After dinner, we often go for a walk or to the park or spend time playing. Baths start around 6:45-7 - these days, the girls will often all spend time in the bath and then we get them out one by one. Into pjs, unwind (watch tv or read books), A's in bed by 7:30, T's in bed by 8, E's usually ready to eat/sleep by 8:30. If it's a great night, they're all asleep by 9 and I'm usually not far behind! ;) When I have to get everyone to daycare in the AM, those times usually get bumped up ~ 30 minutes, since I usually have to wake everyone up in the AM.

Baths: E was getting ~ 2/week. She's getting chubby and her wrinkles are getting irritated, so we're doing more frequent baths, but I don't always soap her up. The older girls have pretty sensative skin, so even though they often take a bath every night or every other, we don't always soap them up, either.

Trying to do s/o but E's crying. :( Back later...

Hey, ladies! I've been gone so long. I've been reading along when I can, but fell so far behind I was intimidated to post. :P All the babies are so cute!! We sure do make good-looking kids in here.

Angie & Rachel,
So glad you found us...the more the merrier!

Pam,
I'm so impressed you give the boys a bath every night. I can't even manage that feat with 2 kids!

Mama,
I can imagine your surprise when you saw two teeth in Mila's mouth. certainly not something you plan to see when checking over your newborn for the first time. How cool!

Bedtime for Two
We divide and conquer. We usually have dinner around 6:30, then go outside and play for an hour or so. Once we come in, DH gives Caroline her bath while I bathe Megan (this is every 2-3 nights, we're pretty lazy about it right now since they're still at home). After baths, DH gets Caroline dressed for bed and sits her down for her nebulizer treatment, followed by her teeth brushed, and finally a sip of water. Meanwhile, I take Megan upstairs to get HER ready for bed and then nurse her one last time, swaddle her up, and lay her down awake. We're pretty flexibe about bedtime. It's usually 8-9 for Megan and 9-10 for caroline.

Us
We had a big day yesterday...Megan started rolling from back to front, and front to back! I can't believe we're already entering the world of mobility.
Her eyes are still pretty goopey. We continue to massage them twice daily in hopes they'll get better on their own.
Megan is still 100% EBF. I really can't believe we're still going strong without any issues. I gave up with DD1 at 7 weeks and continued to pump/supplement with formula until she was 13 months old. I'm tickled pink that I've already surpassed my first goal of 3 months, and am well on my way to making my second goal of 6 months. In fact, I have enough BM in the freezer to make it there even if I were to stop today.
DH is home with the girls for another 2 weeks and then it's on to daycare.
Megan is still a horrible sleeper. A part of me is hoping that with all the excitement and distraction of daycare she'll get little sleep there and will finally start STTN regularly. At least with a little more regularity. Twice in nearly 4 months just doesn't cut it. ;)

Hopefully I can get the thread updated tonight. I know I'm so far behind!

E had her 4 month checkup today.

Weight: 12 pounds 8ounces (20% - dropped from 36%)
Height: (not sure - but 53%)

Had 2 shots :(

The nurse practitioner (my dr is on Mat Leave) is getting us a referral for a pediatrician to work with us on her allergies (also since her weight is dropping a a bit on the % scale). I liked her way better then my dr!

Had our 4mo wbv today too!
height: 26 1/4" (85%)
weight: 17# 5oz (90%)

Max is still battling bad gas/tummy troubles so I'm back to a dairy-free diet. Ped wonders if it's due to a dairy intolerance. And his dry, itchy scalp is back too so nighttime sleeping has been very rough the last 2 nights due to both of these issues. We have him on anti-itch meds now so hopefully tonight will be much better.

Taz- great picture! I need to get our exersaucer out too but I just can't bring myself to clutter our floors with one more piece of baby/toddler equipment. Our house is really small. Re the bumbo: Max definitely has a bumbo limit. He starts arching his back too after 5-10 minutes.

Pelican - Your boys are just the cutest! You must have so much fun with them (when you're not absolutely exhausted!).

Shannon - Whoa, that's a big baby you've got there ! Good luck with the dairy elim - I hope that solves your problem.

LG - E is a little one, like my C! Good that you like the RPN - they spend more time with you anyway.

Liz - Thanks for keeping the thread up to date (I know I haven't done my fair share :o). Sounds like Megan is doing well, with the exception of STTN (we're with you!).

Sdauer - We're also on a 2x/week bath schedule. It's too hard to do it more than that (and we only have one!).

Taz - C's been sleeping on his stomach since the day he started to roll (at 3 months). We put him in the crib on his back, and I know he's ready to sleep when he flips onto his tummy. Great pic, btw. We need to get some pics of C in his exersaucer.

Us - Well, overall, we're doing well. We're having some sleep issues though (what else is new). C still goes down around 8 each night without too much fight (will usually cry in his crib for 5-10 minutes). He had been getting up around 3:30 to nurse, and then would go right back to sleep until 7 or so. Well, he's been congested for the past week or so, and has not been going right back to sleep after that morning wakeup. Plus, several mornings he's vomited right after the night feeding, drenching me and him. The pedi. says it's likely b/c of all the mucus he's swallowing at night, but yuck! And these past 2 days, he's gotten up at 5 am - for the day!! I'm thinking we might have to follow Weissbluth's advice of not going to him until 6 am (when he wakes at 5). Wish us luck - I'm starting to feel quite sleep deprived again!

E rolled tonight! Back to front multiple times (without her diaper... she can't quite make it with her big cloth butt on!!)

My mom has been with us this week and we are having a great time. E is really taken to her! Tonight she is giving her a bottle and going to try and put her down. Will make me feel much better about leaving her!

Don't be silly ladies- I don't mind at all. I can't say that I'm exactly the quickest to get updates in. Ya'll are easy to please. ;)

I'm on LJ if anyone would like to friend me. I just posted Megan's 3 month pics. I would post them here, but the password is our last name and, well...you understand. My username over there is lizandkeith.

Eeeeee I'm so behind!

Super cute babies everyone! I love coming back in here and seeing so many adorable pictures. :)

Thanks for all the good thoughts for me when I went back to work. I still hate going, but I'm surviving.

Naps- William was a horrible napper at first. We'd be lucky if he would sleep for more than 15 -20 minutes at a time. Now he takes two short 30 - 45 minute naps (one at about 10 am and one at about 5 pm.) And one long 2+ hour nap at around 1 pm) I'm pretty happy with that current schedule.

Baths- We're also around 2x/week. There have been a couple weeks where he's only gotten 1 though :o

US

Well when I went back to work I was super freaked out that William was going to not adjust well and refuse to take a bottle etc.... The first day I went back he was an angel! So much so that he was sound asleep when I finally got home and I had a hard time getting him to wake up for his evening feeding. (He normally goes to bed around 9, but he went down for DH at 6 and was sleeping HARD) He's been doing well until the last few days. He's started getting REAL fussy at anyone but me. It's waaaay too early for separation anxiety so I'm not sure what that is all about.
Other than that things are hectic around here as usual, but I'll save that junk for my LJ (same screen name over there as well if anyone wants to friend me.)

Rolling He has mastered front to back. Back to front is still not quite there yet. He can get to his side and then gets stuck on his arm. I'm sure it won't be long though.

dropping off a couple 3 month pics!

Hi ladies,
I've been major mia, but I wanted to do a quick drive by. Work officially cut us off again from all message boards and blogs. Party poopers! So, finding spare time to get caught up here has been impossible.

Anyway, things are going well. About 3 weeks ago, Sophia started waking in the middle of the night again. We are back to feeding every three hours all day long. It is a bit exhausting, but I am sure things will improve after the teeth make their appearance. I think I mentioned before that we took her off of the reflux meds and we started getting BM's. The doctor won't connect the two, go figure. I can't believe how big she is already. We are just about out of the 3-6 clothes. She is sitting forward from time to time, but not on her own yet. The scarey thing is that when I put her on her tummy she makes a crawling motion. I'm not ready for that yet. She is finally sleeping in her pack n play or crib. No more swing. I am a little freaked out at the moment because she is in that phase where she rolls over on her tummy, but doesn't roll back on her own yet. I find her in the middle of the night on her tummy. I can tell this little one is ready for solids. She stares already when we eat. Due to my having GD we are holding off until the 6 month mark. One more month to go and I will be busy pureeing. I think that is about it. We still have a ton of smiles and giggles. She is using her hands and last week started playing with her toes. I love watching how she discovers everything. It is so sweet.

I hope everyone is doing well. I really want to find time to catch up with everything that I've missed. Take care!

Guess who is getting their first tooth! Max just started chewing on my hand earlier and I felt it! It hasn't broken skin yet but I can see it and feel it so it won't be long. Man, I *really* hope that's the reason he's been sleeping like total CRAP lately. I was attributing it to his gas (which it still might be) so I've been cutting a lot of things from my diet. I'll continue to do so until I know for sure but it's nice to know there may be another reason for his crankiness.

Gah...so after promising pics, I leave my PI disk at my mom's. Of course. Grrrrr.....

Had G's 4m WBV today:
16lbs 14oz (97%)
26.75" (100%+)
16.5" head (66%)

I was surprised that she wasn't heavier! I thought we'd be pushing 18lbs... Everything looks good. She did roll front to back once this weekend and is trying to roll back to front. Any day now. We won't be starting cereal for at least another month. And I decided to space out our vaxes, so we only did DPT and polio and rotovirus today and will get the other 2 next month. From now on, we'll not be doing any more than 2 at a visit. PERIOD. She's so much happier.

Shannon--TEETH??? DD1 didn't get her first till 8m. I'm always so shocked to hear about early teethers for that reason.

jeneca--So glad to hear that work is going well. Wonder what is up with William only wanting mommy... He's adorable.

tgal--G is really interested in food, too. She tried to grab my chicken drumstick the other night! I'm holding out as well, but it's hard.

lg--Go E with rolling!!! I hope you get some answers re: her weight and allergy issues. Poor girl :( We only see our NP now at the ped. I lurve her!

LC--Aww...sorry to hear about the stuffies. Nothing worse than a sick baby--except maybe when the sick baby vomits on you!!

liz--Gah...another roller!! How fun.

pelican--OMG...I cannot imagine how you will cope with 3 movers! Congrats on rolling--sounds like they're on for their chronological age rather than gestational! That's AWESOME!

Sonya--YOu GO on BF. The end of the year is near!

Taz--Awww...Adele is so darn cute!

WHEW! Okay, I'm as caught up as I'm going to get. Like tgal, I'm sadly banned at work. Booo!

Just had to come in and post something funny-

I just completed my first week back at work. DH tells me that he cashed in some options and is going to start a savings acct for when I go on leave of absence "for the next one".:eek::eek: HOLD YOUR HORSES, Dude! "The next one" is so far out of my imagination right now all I could do was laugh at him.

Today was the boys' five month WBV. Stats:

Linus: 15#12oz (25-50th); 26" long (50-75th); HC 42.5cm (25-50th)
Oliver: 15#11oz (25-50th); 26.5" long (75th); HC 43cm (25-50th)
Miles: 15#0.5oz (25th); 26" long (50th); HC 42.5cm (25-50th)

The shocker is that Linus overtook Oliver in weight! They weighed the same at birth, but after that, Oliver took off and left his brothers in the dust. But no more! :)

Linus laughed, too. It was the first time I'd heard it and my heart melted. It was the sweetest chuckle I've ever ever ever heard! :)
