I made myself a couple of hardboiled eggs last night, and I just realized I left one out on the counter. It's still in the shell, but I won't be home until late tonight. Do I have to throw it out?

I would say yes.

No idea, but I wanted to ask how long hardboiled eggs will last in the fridge? I want to decorate some with DD for Easter but don't know how early I can make them. Thanks!

Google tells me they should be eaten within 5 days, but when I was a kid we always decorated them on Saturday, the day before Easter.

ETA: OTOH, another google result says 2-3 weeks in the fridge, in the shell. But they are eggs, and after a week it would skeeve me out, personally.

When we get into hard-boiled egg mode here (quick breakfast/good protein source), we usually boil up a dozen on Sunday and make sure they are all eaten by the end of the week.

From goodegg.com:

Refrigeration is necessary for hard boiled eggs if they eggs are not to be consumed within a few hours.

Refrigerated boiled eggs, kept in the shell, can be kept for up to 1 week.

Wikipedia says:
Storage

Peeled hard-boiled eggs can be stored in the refrigerator in a bowl of cold water to cover for about 1 week (change the water daily) - or in a sealed container without water (cover the eggs with damp paper towels) for the same length of time.
Hard-boiled eggs in their shells can be stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.[6]
Hard cooked eggs may be kept in the refrigerator for up to one week.[7][8]

Yolks can be covered with cold water and refrigerated, tightly covered, for up to 3 days. Tightly covered egg whites can be refrigerated up to 4 days or frozen for 6 months.[9]

Studies done at the American Egg Board substantiate that unopened containers of brined or pickled eggs (marinated, hard-cooked eggs) keep for several months on the shelf. After opening, keep refrigerated. [1

I always make a bunch of hard boiled eggs at once and refrigerate them in the shell for a good 2-3 weeks. So far they have all been fine...

Huh - Trader Joe's sells a bag of hard-boiled eggs with the shell removed and those say they are good for at least 2-3 weeks. I've never had a problem with them.

interesting. I ended up making my eggs a week before Easter, forgetting they were in there and throwing all 10 away. Part of my fear was that DD THREW them in her basket so they cracked a bit too.
