I'm joining the new thread! Thanks, Tuni, for setting it up!

I'm going to just pick up from the last thread with the QOTD Re: Cleaning up. Owen helps sometimes but not always. He mostly will pick up his blocks, legos or stuffed animals (stuff that has a definite place). I'm trying to work on it more and more each day. Even just making him carry his own cup into the kitchen is a task sometimes.

Tara - I know it's probably not funny to you but your story of Eva calling you by your first name just made me LOL.:p

KLM - Your boys are ridiculously cute!:D

That's often hard even for the adults in this house;)

G turned two last Friday and we had his party at my sister's house because it's more centrally located for the rest of our family.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/kdotp/birthday-3-7-08-1.jpg

He had a great time playing with his cousins. :D

cleaning up He's okay at this, will do with some asking/prompting from us. I know they work on picking up at daycare, so he probably wouldn't be as good otherwise. He loves to put his cup/bowl/plate in the sink, though (if only DH would to this).

2Y WCV was yesterday:
36.5" tall (but with boots on, so probably more like 35-36"
36.5 lbs

He's our big kiddo. The Doc was happy with his verbal and physical development. We're also switching daycares, again. Our gal decided to take a work-from-home opportunity and we thought this would be a good chance to enroll him in a center instead, and we just found out the place we want can take him. Yay!

Here are the stats from our 2yr checkup:

Nicholas:
wt: 26 lb. 6 oz.
ht: 33.5 in.

Campbell:
wt: 24 lb 4 oz
ht: 34.25 in.

They are much lighter than I expected. I thought for sure Nicholas was pushing 30 pounds. I knew Campbell was skinny, but I was still surprised how light he was.

I'm loving all the birthday pics! Happy Birthday March babies!!!!

We're having Logan's party tomorrow so I'll be able to share :D

Cleaning up - ha...just...ha. Yeah, in my dream world. It's my own fault though since I don't enforce it. It just takes 3 x as long with him around as he unpacks what I tidy. So it gets done after he goes to bed. I know, I know, bad me. I keep meaning to start incorporating a pre-nap & pre-dinner tidy time into our day, but I am getting way too big in the belly to be picking stuff up. We did a toy purge last night and relocated a while bunch to his room, so at least there's less mess in my living room now :p

DD has started calling me by my first name too, though only when she wants to get out of her crib. It is so funny to hear her say it, though it made me really sad the first couple of times!

cleaning up - it depends on her mood. Some days she is really good and won't even let us help. Others, not so much. The only thing she is consistent about is that she loves to unload the dishwasher. We keep her plastic plates/cups/etc in a drawer that she can reach and she loves to put them away and also to set the table at mealtime.

Thanks for the new thread, tuni! I've been meaning to ask you this forever but when you get a chance, could you remove DD's name? You can just put the first initial if you'd like. Thank you! Hope everything is going well...

Thanks for the new thread , Tuni!

Cleaning up- Well, I seem to have a neat freak on my hands. He likes to clean up. If he sees a piece of dust on the floor, he will pick it up and bring it to me. My parents have a paper shreader at their house. They let him play with all the pieces of paper. Well, before he goes in to dump all the paper, he gets the broom so he can clean it all up. Its funny to watch.

Thanks for the new thread Tunibell!

Cleaning up ~ Yes, kind of... He LOVES to put "up" all of the dishes, which means picking up our glass dishes and dropping them in the sink for us. He also LOVES to help me take the dishes out of the dishwasher and hand them to me to put away and put dirty dishes back in the dishwasher. He also LOVES to vacuum (he vacuumed our entire kitchen floor last week before his party) and will clean up spills after himself. He even wipes off the table/counter, and makes it clean. He'll pick up some of his toys, but he's usually ornery and dumps them right back out about 50% of the time.

Our new digs! Thanks Tuni.

B's party was this Saturday. It was crazy at our house - about 30 people, but it was a great time. The kids had a ball and played really well together. The adults had fun too!

Cleaning up: We're not very consistent with it at home, but they do it a lot at school, so he's pretty good. He also loves helping empty the dishwasher. His cups and dishes are in a low cabinet and just thrown in a tupperware, so he loves for me to pass it to him and he puts them away. He also loves passing the silverware for me to put away.

Ben had his 2 year WBV today. Everything looks great, just a tall skinny boy on our hands

Cute pictures!

Dishwasher: Eva loves the dishwasher. If it doesn't lock when we close it, she will leave us little surprises. I am very careful to ensure it is always locked, but dh was quite shocked one day when she walked into the livingroom with a butcher knife saying "here you go daddy". Part funny, part NOT!

I don't know about you all, but I really need to write down some of the funny stuff. One of my bad habits is how I talk to her. I find myself taking after my mom quite a bit and one thing I've said "stop it right now". Well, the other day we were in the car and Sophia wouldn't stop screaming and Eva yelled "Sophia, stop it right now"! Oh man, I really need to watch what I say. She is also picking up on my road rage lately say "move car". I think I could be one of those TLC commercials!

Yeah, G picked up "Oh Shit!" from both DH and me and says it quite constantly. Thankfully, it sounds like "go sit" but still.....

I've also heard him say "dammit." :o We're getting better at using alternative expletives. :p

Shannon Gorgeous pictures! Noa's gotten so big, love that smile!

Dishwasher AJ loves the dishwasher, too, and we can't lock it. And somehow he always seems to go right for the steak knives. I almost had a heart attack the first time he did it.

Our update - they want to look into whether AJ might be on the autistic spectrum, based on his lack of progress in speech therapy. They're going to have a specialist in autism come during his early intervention to give her opinion and then we'll go from there. I have mixed feelings about it, to say the least, but am dealing with it the best I can!

Just got back from Owen’s 2 yr. WBV.

Stats are:

23lbs. 10 oz. (10%)
33 3/4 inches (25%)
Head – I don’t remember but it was normal.

This is the first time he has ever been on the chart AT ALL for weight so I was really happy. We haven’t been in since the 18-month visit so I was happy to see a decent jump. He is still tiny but at least everyone is happy now!

Doctor was happy with everything else. Owen was pointing at his diaper talking about pee pee so that was funny. He threw a fit crying during the exam. He really hates it.

Ah, here you guys are :)

I love the pics :)

Our 2 year stats from Feb:
36.5 inches
30 pounds.
She is wearing a 3T right now.

Jocey started daycare for the first time last week and she is loving it. I was so worried it would be rough for her but she did great :) My biggest fear is her immune system so we will see how that goes very soon lol

2 year WBV stats

Height 36 inches
Weight 31 lbs.

She was at the top of the charts but what really got me is her DR told me she is at risk for being obese. I didn't think 31 lbs was a lot, and especially given she was 10 lbs at birth. Has anyone else experienced this?

lost ~ Lucas was 29+ lbs at his 2 year wbv, and 2 inches shorter than your DD, and our doc said he was right in the middle for weight.

I heard this about Zoey from 2 months on. I was even told to give her bottles of water instead of formula! She was a big baby/kid and at 3 1/2 is 42lbs and 41inches. Jocey is almost dead-on to your DD's size and we were old that she was 98% for height and 90% for weight and very proportional. I don't want to make light of what your doctor said but I lived with obsession over Zoey's size for her first 2 years because of comments like those! In my not-so-expert opinion, she is perfect :) :)

Lost – We are the opposite with Owen being *too small* according to the doctors. After two years of obsessing about their testing, comments, complaints, etc. (instead of just following my instinct), I realized that all kids are different and some are on the smaller end of the *chart* and others on the larger end of the *chart*. It seems doctors are not happy unless they are at 50% for everything. And those charts suck. Try not to stress about it too much.

thanks for the reply's I am not to worried, but was taken back.

They took blood at the appointment and her platletts (sp?) came back low so we had to go have additional blood drawn yesterday. That was a battle as she is like her mommie and does not bleed so it took three pokes to get enough blood out. Should be hearing back from the doctor. but hoping it was just a fluke in the first blood test

Just stopping in to say hello.

This past year has been a tough one, and I'm just starting to realize just how rough it's been. I had no idea, for example, just how sincerely it sucks to want to have a(nother) child and not be able to conceive as quickly as one would like. I confess I have been avoiding this thread, and CC in general, because I've reached the point where seeing pregnancy announcements just makes my heart ache (which feels so crappy to admit, and please know that I am also thrilled when I see any of my fellow MMs share happy news :)). But, I recently started seeing a therapist, who is really helping me work though my anxiety and depression, which, interestingly enough, she thinks is hormone-based. I felt fine until I started cutting down on nursing. In the last month I've cut out two feedings (we're now down to just the morning nursing) and I feel like I've had the rug pulled out from underneath me. Apparently, what I'm experiencing is a form of PPD that doesn't get a lot of press, especially since the majority of women are not still nursing when their children are 2. Anyhow, I'm awaiting an appointment with a doctor to tweak my dosage of Zoloft (which I've taken since I was in my early 20s, and it has historically taken care of my depression so thoroughly that in recent years I had come to think of it as a non-issue), and, in the meantime, I'm just trying to muddle through.

So hugs to junk and Tracie and anyone else who is struggling (with whatever) too.

And now for a little levity, here is a pic of Pip doing an Easter morning egg hunt in our backyard (with blueberry pancake residue still on her face):

Tuni - I'm sorry to hear that things have been difficult, but glad to hear that you are getting help. Best of luck to you.

So we moved the boys out of thir cribs about 3 weeks ago and it was going really well - until I decided to take away their soothers. I cut the tips off & told the boys that they were broken. They wanted me to fix them, but I told them that I couldn't so then they decided that they needed to go in the garbage can. So each of them got up, took their soothers to the garbage and threw them away. The first night they asked for them, but I reminded them that they were broken to which they stated "garbage can". So that night went well and their nap the next day was fine, but the next night trouble started. It's not that they want the soothers (they haven't even asked about them), but they don't know how to settle themselves without them. I put them down (obviously tired) and they chatter and play forever - it has been anywhere from half an hour to 2 hours. They aren't napping as long either. Now we get maybe half an hour or an hour if I'm lucky (they used to be at least an hour & a half).

Night time isn't as bad. We pushed back their bedtime (from 7) to 7:30, but they still take about half an hour to settle. They also aren't sleeping as long at night now - it was about 11 hours, now its about 10 hours, with them waking at 6.

So overall they are no sleeping about 2 hours less each day than before I took the soothers away.

Anyone have any suggestions, or any idea how long it might take to learn to settle themselves without a soother?

klm, Logan did the same when we first moved him to his BBB, but after a month or so it lost it's charm and he's now back to nice long naps and sleeping through the night. Ok, maybe the STTN was more like 1.5 months :p lol. For naps, even now sometimes he will play (destroy his room in other words) for ~20 minutes, but I just let him go at it and then he'll climb into bed and go right to sleep. The rule 'round these parts is that his room gets cleaned when he wakes up, which has gradually lessened the destruction...sorta, kinda ;) LOL!! Anyways, basically I'm saying is that it'll pass :)

Hi ladies,
Thanks for askin' about me a few weeks ago. My Dell Craptop finally bit the dust so I had to suck it up and buy a new machine. Ugh. Anyway, we are fine.
We're dealing okay. It's been rough but we'll make it :).
After P's official dx of PDD-NOS (one of the Autism Spectrum Disorders) I lost it, really. It's so hard to see / hear about neurotyp kiddos, particularly when Pierson is realistically the only child I'll ever have. It all really takes a toll. I know, it could be way worse but it's so sad to see him struggle for everything - breaks this mama's heart.
Anyway, I'll check back soon.

What do you do during tantrums?

Owen has started having these tantrums/screaming fits lately. He does it (seemingly) for no reason. The other night he screamed for close to an hour. Just. Because. I pretty much just ignore him, but damn it is not easy. I was thinking of removing myself from the room as in "I don't want to be near you when you make that noise, I'll come back when you're quiet and nice," but I don't know if he can comprehend that yet.

What do you do during tantrums?
If we're at home I just ignore it and continue to talk to him in a normal tone until he calms down. DH takes another approach and will immitate him and it makes him snap out of it and start laughing at daddy being so silly. Not my perferred method, but it works most of the time with DH.

Thankfully we haven't had too many meltdowns in public, but I pretty much just try to calm him down and explain to him that we do not behave that way.

Andrea- those pics are just adorable!!!!

Tantrums- I ignore them. I don't give in. I think working in a junior high school for 15 years has helped my patience. I worked with some children who were severly disabled and had the mentality of a much younger child. I never gave in with them, and I won't with my own. Just the other day going to my parents house Nicky had one. He didn't want to hold my hand to walk. Thats my rule right now- he must hold my hand if we are out walking. Of course MIL doesn't make him hold her hand, so I have to deal withthe BS of it. Anyway- he wouldn't hold my hand and threw a tantrum. Threw himself on the ground. I picked him up and told him this is the way it is if he doesn't hold my hand. He was pissed. I carried him all the way upstairs to their apartment. He cried for a good 20 mintues, wouldn't even take off his jacket. I ignored him, my parents tried to console him. Finally he came to me, asked me to take off his jacket and that was it.

__________________________________________________ ______________

2 year WBV today. He is 28 pounds and 34.5 inches. They said he looks like he is doing well and liked what they saw as far as him entertaining himself and keeping somewhat occupied. Nice to hear reassurance when all I get is put downs from MIL. ARGH!

Nicky and I are flying to Florida in a couple of weeks to see the ILs. They are snowbirds. I am both excited and tentative. A whole week with the IL's all by myself, oh my. But as much as my MIL pisses me off, she is also good to me. They are paying for our tickets. And FIL, who I love is awesome, he booked just him and I on a gambling cruise one day while we are there. So that will be awesome!!!!

Nicky's birthday party is tomorrow. Should be fun. Will post pics when I get a chance.

I completely hear ya. But I try to focus on all the things that make AJ special. And I realize that there are some advantages, as I watched my neighbor's child continually say, "no!" last weekend!

tantrums We try to ignore them as well. I also try to distract/redirect him. Sometimes if he's having a tantrum, I'll sit down and play with one of his toys that he really likes and he'll join in. It doesn't always work.

aprilshowers - MWAH. :)

I just returned from my first RE appointment. It was actually a lovely experience - everyone was incredibly kind and obviously very used to dealing with anxious ladies. They were very encouraging, and said that they were confident we would get pregnant again before too long. They did an ultrasound (I'm on Day 6) and saw tons of follicles - I was told I have the ovaries of a 25-year-old. Interestingly, though, they saw a bright white spot in my uterus, which they think is a calcified piece of placenta or tissue left over from my pregnancy with DD. I was told that this bit of whatever can act like an IUD, inflamming the uterus and making implantation less likely (although not impossible). I'm scheduling an appointment to have it removed next month, but in the meantime we don't have to TTA, which is good news. I'm also going to try to wean completely, and if we're not pregnant in a few cycles, then we will discuss Clomid and progesterone. Feels good to have a plan in place!

tuni so sorry for your ttc issues. hopefully now that you have a plan everything will go smoothly.

red congrats! that picture of logan and ainsley is adorable.

major sleep issues here and i'm at my witts end. two sundays ago dh left for ca for work just for a few nights, but it all started at bedtime that night. typically ds takes a bath, then we read, followed by rocking and he'll request his "bed", we lay him down still awake and that's the end of it. well, that night i did the routine, then my mom rocked him, then me again and he just wouldn't go to bed. we were up until 11 and i was not a very nice mommy. every nap, with the exception of yesterday, since then doesn't happen or he cries in his room for an hour. bedtime is still a battle, he was asleep when dh rocked then he laid him down and sat in the chair and watched him, both times he was asleep, but as soon as he left he cried and just finished about a half an hour later. it was hard not to go in, but i feel like i've tried everything and i just want this to end. it's exhausting and i just don't know what to do anymore. he clearly needs his sleep, becuase he's set off by the smallest things. i feel like i'm so short lately and all i do is yell at the poor thing. i feel like when we had bumps in the road in the past it was just a few days, but we're on day 9 and i just want my good sleeper back. could his 2 year molars be causing this crap?

here's the no-sleep monster

Diaper changes are a nightmare for us, too. If it's pee, fuggedaboutit. If it's poopy he's a litte more agreeable but it's h-a-r-d.

Good luck, lady....I think the terrible 2's are upon us all.

Oh poop is much worse for us! And it is impossible and downright disgusting to change him when he is thrashing around and poop is flying everywhere. I have to pin him down which I know can’t feel good but what other chance do I have? I don’t understand the concept of not wanting to get out of a poopy diaper. Maybe it’s just that getting changed makes them lose control and two years old is all about it being done their way/them in control.

P.S. He also doesn’t act this way with anyone but me. UGH UGH UGH!

elly - both our boys are going through some major sleep issues too. I think they may be getting molars, but we also took their soothers away about 2 weeks ago. Now every nap bedtime is a major production for at least one of them. I am also hoping things will eventually sort themselves out, but I don't know what to do either. I think between shorter naps, later bedtime & earlier rising they are now getting between 1 & 2 hours less sleep than they did before we took away the soothers. I was hoping it would take about 3 weeks to sort out, but now I figure more like 6, and if they're getting molars too - who knows!

tunibell
04-16-2008, 02:01 PM
Sleep - Yep, elly, I too would suspect molars as the cause of the problem. Pip's sleep got really shaky a few weeks ago and, lo and behold, she has some new teeth to show for it. I highly recommend Motrin at bedtime.

Diapers - We have diaper drama here too. She really does not want to wear them anymore (but neither does she want to use the potty, soo..). I generally change her diaper while she is standing up; I find her much more agreeable in this position. She is also usually willing to sport "Princess Pants" (Huggies training pants with Disney princesses on them - but only the ones that have Cinderella on the front )

Our big news here (no not that, unfortunately) is that Piper is now going to "school" for 20 hours a week. After two plus years of round-the-clock care (no nanny, no babysitter, no family around - just me and the Pip) I really needed a break, and I thought she would truly benefit from hanging around other kids on a more regular basis. We've had a little bit of separation drama, but it seems to be improving (and today was the first day I didn't cry after dropping her off, so my separation anxiety must be getting better too!)

Mood-wise, I seem to be doing a little better. It's been really scary (and humbling) to be sucked back into depression/anxiety after a mostly problem-free decade, but I keep trying to remind myself that I've gotten through this before and I will likely get through it again. I just really want to get back to my equilibrium as quickly as possible for my little family. I love Piper so much that sometimes it just takes my breath away.

tuni - Glad the RE appt went well, and I'm glad your mood has been a little better. I'll be thinking about you!

ellybelly - Beautiful children! No advice on the sleeping issues, but I hope that they resolve soon.

AJ had his consultation with the autism specialist yesterday. She felt that he needs further evaluation based mainly on that he was focusing on objects rather than people and that his eye contact wasn't good enough. So on June 4th we go for a big evaluation with a whole slew of experts to get some further answers or a diagnosis.

tuni- So happy for you that your RE appointment went well. I know how hard it is to struggle with trying to get PG- it took us nearly 3 years. Hang in there, everything will work out! Also, glad to know someone else who has their child in daycare just for the break. I have been Nickys caretaker since birth. We do have the luxury of family for the occasional night out, but I need to get him into daycare part time so I can get a break. People thinkI am crazy when I say that, but I need it. Plus we know we are not having any more babies. And I want him to have interactionw ith other children. He needs that more than I need a break. So we are going to start looking soon.

diapers- sometimes its a pleasure, but mostly ARGH!!! All he wants to do is jump up. Fights me like crazy.

sleeping- yeah, we've had issues. But he seems to be working it out on his own. He screams bloody murder going into his crib- but hates getting out of it. Confused about that.

We had Nickys 2nd birthday party this past weekend. It was nice. It was a firetruck theme. We served cold cuts and it was so much easier than last year when we cooked a ton of food. I'll post pics as soon as I get them loaded.

Wow, lots going on here. I'll have to come back. Gorgeous pictures! I have to say that it is so sad though seeing how big all of our peeps are getting.

I thought I would do a quick drive by to say that we officially had to transition to the big girl bed after Eva tried to get out of her crib and broke her arm! We have another dr. apt. a week from tomorrow to see if it healing like is should. Apparently, it happened in a horrible spot where most of the growth occurs, so they are keeping an eye on her closely.

I knew this would happen, Sophia is awake I've got to run. I'll try to catch up later.

tgal - so sorry to hear about Eva arm (poor thing!), but she does look darn cute!

Can I ask how you knew it was broken? Was she in a lot of pain, or did you just automatically get it checked out. I am paranoid that I am often too casual about the boys' health (my DH sometimes has to beg me to take them to the doctor), but I hope that if it really was something serious, it would be obvious to me.

JennW
04-18-2008, 05:25 PM
klm - I am the exact same way and my DH is the one who panicks, worries, etc.

bunny nose
04-18-2008, 06:53 PM
Yeah- DH is the panicker here too. As soon as Nicky gets a sniffle he wants me to drag him to the doctor. But whenever Nicky has bad fall I will try to sort of "play" with the area that was hurt. If he ever screams when I touch it I would give it a few minutes to see how it is. I haven't had to yet, and I hope it stays that way. Sometimes you just can't tell if there is more than just a hurt from the fall. I probably didn't explain that too well, I am so tired. LOL

Have a great weekend girls!

tgal
04-18-2008, 06:58 PM
Thanks ladies. You know this was the first time she tried to get out of her crib. Eva just isn't your dare devil child, she has always been very careful in everything she pursues. Maybe too cautious this time! I heard the fall and it was apparent that she just flipped on over the rail. When I ran in to find her on the floor I immediately picked her up, mother's instinct, which is a big no no until you know they haven't hurt their neck. Anyway, she just kept holding her arm and sobbed. She said her arm hurt. Normally if she gets a bad bump she will calm in max 15 minutes. We are also lucky to have a doctor living next door, but when dh took her over there he wasn't home. When they got back she was still crying and nothing would calm her. I knew something more was wrong and I told Chris we had to take her to the emergency room. He thought she was fine, but I just knew it was more.

KLM: You will know! ;)

Tuni: I am so happy to hear your apt. went well. My mom had the same thing happen after having my brother. If my periods don't regulate here shortly, I may need to get checked out for the exact issue.

Hi guys:) Remember me? I've been reading along, I promise.

Malcolm Augustus was born Thursday 4/17 at 9:05 pm. He was 6#8ozs and 20.5 inches. I was 39 weeks exactly so not too bad;) I had another unmedicated VBAC but this one was about half the time...thank goodness! Maura's was 17 hours and Malcolm's was 8.5 from when the contrax were 5-7 minutes apart.

Congratulations Shannon! How are the big brother & sister doing?

Very, very well! Maura had a huge fit when it was time to leave after a visit to the hospital on Friday but that was more of a "mama" thing than a new baby thing. She was fine with him, thankfully. She's quite the mother hen which is so sweet and much better than jealousy! Aiden was just a few months older when she was born so it's very interesting to see the difference in their reactions (he ignored her for a while).

Aiden is always sure to check in with him every once in a while. I told him daddy was coming to soccer today and he asked if Malcolm was coming too...that sort of thing.

Today was the first day I had to get everyone ready and out the door and it went well. Alex had a meeting and met us at soccer so I didn't have his help. I guess that was technically Malcolm's first outing!

congrats shannon! what a doll!

klm & tuni ya know, i was wondering if that could be the problem, as he has been drooling and puts his entire hand in his mouth and chews on EVERYTHING. i have been administering tylenol quite a bit. may help miday with the nap. hmmm. thanks girls! the dr. did say one of the two year molar spots did feel hard. not looking forward to this as our eye teeth were a huge pain.

sleep update we still aren't back to where we were, but it is improving, we have goods days and bad, like today another no nap, UGH! at least he isn't crying at every put down. we've just stuck to the routine and are hoping it'll get better at some point. i just can't face that he could be ready to give up nap. especially now that we're outside so much during the day, i thought for sure he'd be pooped and i'd get good naps again. :(

potty training we aren't officially pt, but he does go on a daily basis when he feels like it or is bribed ;). he stayed dry and accident free today for a couple hours, after sitting on the potty, getting off and pooping on the floor 30 seconds later. baby steps.

Just think after teething............the beauty of loose teeth and the toothfairy! :)

That's awesome news Lisa! Thanks for the update!

I suppose I haven't updated on Noa's development in awhile-
She loves to ride her scooter (although we don't quite have the steering down yet) and play on slides. In PT she's working on walking up and down steps. She knows 60+ signs and I *think* I've just recently seen her put 2 signs together ("more milk" and "cracker please")...although I'm not quite sure if that was a fluke. Speech is very difficult for her. In therapy she's working on imitating early-developing sounds like /m/, /h/, and /d/. She can use a fork and spoon with assistance, although we're still having issues with her not chewing her food (she'll just suck it down whole). Socially, she loves being around other children.

junk Sounds like P's really doing great! I've seen ABA work great. If AJ ends up with a diagnosis, I hope that he will be getting some of it. (I'm actually trained, kind of, in it, but it's been 10 years.) The funny thing is that AJ just pointed for the first time today!

Molars I keep trying to see if maybe this is why the little guy's been "off" here and there but he hasn't let me get a good look!

Not much new here. I'm going dairy-free cuz my son farts all.the.time. Seriously, he has major gas issues that cause him a lot of pain (and lots of night wakings) so we're wondering if he has a food intolerance.
That's about all I know...

Junk: Hee, hee...I thought the same thing a few months ago when the thread died after one of my posts...

Nothing really to report here. Ben is Mr. chatty charlie and has a memory like I cannot believe these days... A while back, we were watching the news with him and Barack Obama was on TV, so we thought it would be funny to teach him how to say Barack Obama. He now remembers and whenever he sees Barack Obama on TV, he starts screaming Barack Obama...we don't want the news THAT much with him. Anyway...he is a lot of fun, but also is getting that 2s attitude!

We're having a horrible time with the Big Boy Bed all of the sudden!!!

I am about to loose my mind! Nathan was doing great choosing to sleep in his big boy bed and lasting all night. We moved the big boy bed to his regular room and he was still dong great. Something happened. It totally stopped. And he learned to climb out of his crib.

Now he'll go from BBB to Crib to BBB to Crib, etc. Tonight he then started asking to go downstairs again and I drew the line there. You have two options, that's enough. Should I take apart the crib? Will he every really sleep in the BBB again?

Suggestions? Tequilla? Anything????

LOL, DD loves saying "Barak Obama" too! Must be all of those vowels. It is totally crazy what she remembers these days. I told her we were going to a yarn store last week which we have only been to once before, months ago. She told me she was going to read Good Night Moon there. Sure enough, as soon as we walked in she went right to the pile of kids' books and pulled out Good Night Moon.

She is such a love these days too, always giving us hugs and kisses (always 2 - one on each cheek. No idea where she picked that up from!). We are having so much fun. DH and I just started TTC and I'm nervous about how pregnancy and a baby could change the dynamic.

jordan, I'm sorry I have no advice (DD is still in her crib, with a paci no less). But a couple shots of tequilla for you couldn't hurt ;)

ellybella
05-06-2008, 06:38 PM
jordan we went through this too, although we're not in a bbb yet. he always requested his bed at night, then one night all of a sudden he fought it. he'll think of every excuse in the book "poop on potty", "go downstairs", "sleep in mommy's bed", "watch you", "i want milk". ds likes to sleep with things, especially when he gets a new truck, so we've had to gather many an "excabater", "backhoe digger", he's very well versed in his construction equipment "articulated dumptruck". my only advice is to stick with it. it's been a month and we're still having trouble with naps, but at least he's not crying at every bedtime. we just stuck with our routine, no wavering and he knows what the deal is.

funny/cute things they say/do i was feeling around in his mouth the other day and then he asked to look at my teeth then said "mommy has dinosaur teeth". he calls dandy lions "dandy flowers" and picks them for me. when dh got home from work the other day, ds looked at him matter of factly and said "missed you daddy" and continued on in the sandbox.

dd update she's 7 months, crawls, claps, & pulls to standing. she is right on track with her big brother with all gross motor milestones. freaky!

JennW
05-07-2008, 05:27 AM
Aw, Junk - you're no thread killer. I just have nothing interesting to say!!! LOL

Update on us: Owen is in a serious word explosion. He probably says 10 or more new words a day and he strings together short sentences. It seems he understands feelings more too these days. Example. My dog threw up right as we were sitting down for dinner. He said "Uh oh mess? Bobby mess?" (He calls the dog Bobby.) I grumbled something as I was cleaning it up about yes it was Bobby's mess and he replied, "Uh oh Mommy mad?" LOL

He also gets so excited about EVERYTHING. Everything is met with a "Yay!" or a "Wow!" at the top of his lungs. It's really cute to see him so happy and excited seeing so much in the world for the first time.

We're working on Please and Thank You. He'll do please most times but not many thank yous yet.

Hi ladies! Things have been crazy around here. Eva gets her splint off today, so we are anxious to see the lovely arm rot! Baths have been a major pia and I will be so glad that we can just plop her in the tub.

Jenn: I agree, Eva too is feeling so much more these days. We ate out last night and I was so aggrivated because we sat and sat with two kids waiting for our order. Anyway, Eva asked "what's wrong mommy." That was the first time she noticed my feelings and dh was shocked as well.

One fun thing she picked up is " ta da" everything she does now she says ta da afterwards. It cracks me up. Oh and the circus was in town this weekend and she keeps talking about it, especially riding the camel. She also doesn't forget a thing. Dh told her this weekend she was getting her splint off today and said she could go swimming again. This morning, she said daddy I get to go swimming today. These are definitely fun times. I really need to document them more.

Thank you so, so much everyone for the congrats!!
It took us 16 months, so needless to say it has been a long, long journey. But it finally paid off and we feel extremely blessed to be adding to our family one more time.

We are getting ready for our first big family vacation next week. We are taking the kids to Disneyworld. I am so excited to see their faces and experience the magic through their eyes. I can't wait!

Hope all my fellow March Mommies are doing well, and I hope the RO's are enjoying their little ones and the crazy life of toddlers and babies!

JennW-
I don't know if you remember, but Graham had low iron for a long time and we had him on several different iron meds until we finally got one that worked for him. Icar is what we use now and it is the best tasting one we have had yet. It's grape.
My ped said not all kids can absorb the iron drops the same way. So if his iron doesn't go up, don't panic, you may just need a different med for him. HTH!

Wanted to stop in and say congrats to all the RO and of course those who are pregnant again...

Things have been crazy here, I just finished my first year of law school...... and Mackenzie is getting so big and active. Its fun.... but the indepedence is killing me....

We started swim lessons about a month ago. This has helped us with our fear of water... She hated baths and would only take one if DH or myself go in the bath with her.... now she will take a shower or a bath without another question... So this is huge

She still does not sleep through the night..... I just think I have a child who does not sleep..... as even when we skip nap on the weekends she still wakes at 330 0r 4 every morning takes a couple sips of milk from a sippy and then falls back asleep. If I don't do this she just sits there and cries....

We are trying to plan a trip to Disneyworld for August...... just started researching so we will see what turns up. We have Disneyland right down the street and are there all the time. but just looking for a vacation that is more toddler friendly....

So we are having another meeting where they'll ask us more questions, and after that at some point we will have a huge big team meeting where they'll tell us what's going on. Anyone successful at potty training? Have any tips for me? :) Mattias hates the potty. He can hold his pee and poop for hours until we finally have to go out somewhere and I put a diaper on him. I decided to put potty training on hold until he starts preschool in two weeks.

I don't get much internet time these days, so please excuse the lack of SO's. I try to make sure to read along though!

I wanted to keep you guys up to date on Logan's kidney issues. He had his second renal scan last week, and we got the results today. He's going to need surgery to repair the problem. They had hopes he'd grow into (out of?) it, but alas we are not so lucky. The surgery will be sometime in the fall, I'll keep you guys updated.

Potty training is a joke 'round here. He will consent to sit on his thomas potty every once in a while, but we havne't had any success since the first day. He has no problem peeing on our (carpeted) floor. fun times.

We have talked about the potty and he sees kids using it at daycare, so he knows what it is, but we're not anywhere close to being PT. I've half a mind to wait to really work on it until after baby #2 is here.

red: *hugs*

yby1: where have you been? ;) As for potty training, IMO our kids are still a bit on the young side to be aggressively PTing (certainly if they show interest, go for it). If he's fighting you on it, then I think putting it on hold may be your best bet. We have a potty in our bathroom and I offer it to B every night and he rarely wants to sit on it. He sits on the potty at school, but never goes there either. I'm not pushing it at all - my guess is that he'll be much closer to 3 if not past 3 before it all clicks. I think at this point, your best bet is to keep offering it, but not to push if he doesn't seem eager or ready.

tracie: glad to hear things are looking good for AJ.

lost: sorry about her not STTN. I have no advice, but hopefully it will just click sometime soon. Yay for finishing your first year of law school.

Not much else to report. Ben is doing really well - thought I'd share a B funny though. My husband thought it would be oh so hysterical to teach him "Don't tase me, bro." a few weeks ago and of course as he started saying this, we were laughing. Well in the past few weeks, I've started using the 1-2-3 discipline method more often to help with his stubborn 2-year old behavior and suddenly in the past few days when I've started counting, he looks at me and out of the blue has started responding with "Don't tase me, bro". I'm balancing trying to keep myself from completely cracking up and disciplining him...good lord, what have we gotten ourselves into?

Potty Training. We have had lots of luck with rewarding. She gets 1 skittle for peeing on the potty and 2 skittles for pooping.

The probelm we have is she poops in the potty 100% of the time at school and at home. She doesn't seem to feel the need to pee until its to late... So we are still in pull ups as she doesn't remember to pee until she started by then its all over....

When we are home I try to get her to go pee every 20-30 minutes to cut out accidents but it doesn't really work as then she gets mad so we just are being patient and soon enough things will catch on.

We are taking a family vacation to Disney World, we are going for a week in August and am super excited.

potty training - we haven't started yet. We have bought the potty and it is collecting dust in the bathroom. AJ is young for his age and we don't think he's ready. Maybe we'll try in Sept when he's 2 1/2.

Hey guys - I posted yesterday with an update but it's not here??

So I'll try again!

We're doing well - Pierson is just cooking with his ABA therapy. Still waiting to see hw much more Speech we'll get through E.I. - hoping at least 1x a week. 2x would be AMAZING. Pray for us!

He's learning his ABC's! Yep can you believe it? He's still nonverbal because he doesn't have real words but can say the first letter of tons of words. And he recognizes about 25% of the alpha letters and sounds - he can point to and A and say "aye", etc. It's AWESOME.

He can also walk a balance beam! We're cookin' we really are.

Not much else. Hoping all the RO's are well and the preggos are faring well in this heat and crazy weather.

Oh yeah, potty training -- not so much. He'll sit on his potty (the Fisher Price singing one) but he doesn't know what it's really for.

Hugs all!

Potty training - We haven't started yet but I am going to do it in the next few weeks. I have been putting it off because we were going on vacation this past week but now that we're back we're ready. I am just so dreading it. He tells me when he is pooping, when he is peeing and asks me to change his diaper when he's done so I'm hoping he's ready.

PT - not even close. We call her the "poop-denier" because even when she's obviously pooping she tells us she isn't. She'll sometimes sit on her potty with her clothes on but that is all.

junk and tracie - I'm glad to hear your kids are making such great progress. Keep up the good work boys (and mamas)!

btw, I seem to be 7w pregnant. We're laying low since we've had a couple of m/cs but we did get to see a heartbeat last week. I'm not as sick as I was with DD but still sick enough to be on Zofran. Not fun with a toddler but we've had a huge amount of help from family and friends which makes it bearable.

:D aprilshowers!!!

No vacations for us this year. It's just not in the budget due to fuel costs, house repairs, and baby on the way. I need to figure out how we're going to afford a larger vehicle because we are *not* all going to fit in our current one once the baby's here. We'll take a few short (less than 3 hours) trips to see our families and go to county/state fairs, but that's about it.

We're also dealing with the aftermath of the massive flooding that occurred last week in our city (Cedar Rapids, Iowa). We are very fortunate that our house and both our offices are fine (though the water was about 2 blocks away from my office). The public ramifications of the flooding are huge, though. It completely devastated our downtown area, which is where the city and county government offices are located along with the public library and public transportation hub. There are also major businesses in the area not to mention the thousands of people who completely lost their homes. It's heartbreaking.

PT - We love all things potty (sitting on our potty, reading about the potty, checking out our reflection while wearing our new Snap-Ez training pants) but have yet to actually use our potty. I think we'll wait until we're home from our trip back East in July and then go the roll-up-the-rugs diaper-free route.

kdotp - I am so glad your home was spared. The Iowa flooding is (yet another) reminder that I really need to stock up on emergency supplies.

I need to get the energy to try potty training but I am dreading it! For those that have done it, I hope it's going well for you. I think we're going to try next week. Then I'll wait a month or two to do the BBB. Is that enough time in between the two? I don't want to overwhelm him with change but I want to try and get both done in plenty of time for him to settle down with them before his brother arrives.

Jenn: I don't have a lot of specific advice about potty training as we're not there yet, the only thing I have heard consistently from a number of moms that have BTDT is to keep it as positive an experience as possible and not to push them too aggressively (at least at this point when they're closer to 2 - if they were over 3 or older, then it may be time to be a little more aggressive). For example, if he's really fighting you on it, then I would take a break for a little while, maybe move him to the BBB and then focus on PTing later in the summer. Since we're due at the same time, I'd love to have B PT'd by October as well, but I know in my mind by forcing that deadline on him and I will just set us up for failure. Right now, he's getting a lot of exposure at school, but wants nothing to do with it at home and for us that is okay. He's moving into an older room at school soon, so I'm hoping the increased exposure to others PTing will get him more interested.

As for getting started though, I think there is a thread on good PTing books and then just be prepared to spend a lot of time in the bathroom just letting them sit there and get used to sitting on the potty. Also, you can come up with a reward system for each time they poop or pee on the potty.

And I've heard that older siblings can regress once the baby's born. So I don't know if I want to go through working on PTing if he's just going to revert. I don't know. I'm just not ready for this! I think DS is getting more ready, about half the time he'll tell us when he's pooped and that we need to change his diaper. The other half, notsomuch.

We also need to buy a different potty or buy a seat to go on the toilet. The one we have is too small for DS's big butt. :p

This is my fear too (regression). That’s why I want to do it now instead of waiting. If he has a few months to get used to it maybe he won’t regress (wishful thinking)? If he doesn’t get it right away I’ll probably give up and wait until after baby #2 arrives. Some days I think it would be easier to just keep him in diapers for longer. But the idea of having two kids’ diapers to change is daunting too!

I'm right with you guys. I do have the advantage that he is moving into the 2 y.o. room at daycare and they really focus on PTing there. I guess I'm basically following their lead. He sits on the potty a lot at school, but never goes. We offer at home and he wants nothing to do with it, so that makes me think he is just not ready. Like kdotp, he tells us maybe 50% of the time when he's pooped. I think he also just likes saying "I pooped" because he often hasn't even when he says it. I don't know, here I am trying to offer advice when I am pretty dang clueless myself!

Thank you, everyone for the hearty congrats! And thank you, tuni, for the warm welcome in the Jan2009 thread (I can't believe it's going to be 2009!). I agree with you, I wish the rest of the March Moms were over there too! Today was my first day home alone with DD since the m/s really hit. And she was a total angel. She snuggled up with me on the couch to read, played by herself with a bucket of water on the porch for an hour and a half and didn't throw one tantrum all day. I was totally dreading it but I think she really understands that I'm sick and she has to be on her best behavior.

kdotp - I think of you whenever I see the pictures of the floods on the news. I just can't imagine being in the middle of all that devastation. I'm glad your own home was spared, though I am sure you know many people who were not.

Perhaps one of our early ROs is ready for a third? :p

I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow. This first trimester has been a cakewalk compared to Piper's. I've had plenty of nausea, but it's nothing like what I went through last time. I've been able to eat vegetables for crying out loud.

I took Pip to get her first professional hair cut today. I was prepared for tears but she was a total champ (I think it helped that we watched a You Tube video beforehand, so she knew what to expect). She is such a hoot these days - very chatty and very, very insistent on things going her way. She laughs at me when I try to discipline her, which I think bodes well for the teenage years. It's so obvious that she thinks I am in her employ.

Hey girls hope you're all doing really, really well.

We received FABULOUS news -- Pierson was *finally* granted Speech Therapy through E.I. -- twice a week. It's ABA based Speech (geared towards children with Autism Spectrum Disorders) and we've been waiting for this for nearly a year. He begins next week. We have a gosh-awful busy schedule with therapy but the basic premise behind recovering (yeah, a controversial word since there is no cure but I chose to see the cup half full) kids is get them in therapy as many waking hours as possible.

That's pretty much what's cooking.

Tuni - def. post first haircut pics! So funny that Pierson probably had his first haircut about TWO YEARS AGO!!

Hugs and kisses,
Lisa

We got some good news about AJ the other night - we had our informal meeting about the results of his testing to determine if he is on the autism spectrum - and they have determined that he is not! They are thinking that he has motor planning and sensory integration problems and that's the reason for the delayed speech. These things are completely reversable with therapy, especially at his young age. They're recommending speech and OT - which is what he's been getting, but I think he'll qualify for an hour of speech AND an hour of OT a week, which would be awesome!

Oh I can so relate. We still don't have a real word. Lotsa approximations of first letters of words but no real words. I've been told P will probably get a dx of Apraxia when he gets a bit older. Very common for kids with ASDs. And I totally remember you were a SLP. That must be frustrating. I so hate watching P struggle. It's so hard, isn't it?

Well, we were landed back in the ER last night and arrived home around 3pm this afternoon. Eva had another seizure. All of the test results came back indicating that this is again fever related. This sort of thing runs on my side of the family and my SIL also had them as a child. However, I am skeptical and believe that this might have something to do with the la
