good luck today meg and jrdhbunny!
happy 1 month birthday to Christopher and Nicholas!
sending labor vibes to all who are ready for them!
both of my boys are asleep and the percocet just kicked in so I thought I'd take a minute to type up Ben's birth story. :)
We got to the hospital just before 7am on Friday. I was exhausted (barely slept the night before), hungry, thirsty, terrified and excited. We went to triage where they did all the pre-op stuff. Took blood, hooked me up to monitors, put in an IV for fluids (went in on the third try). At about 10 til 9 they walked me into surgery. They were ready to get started early but the dr wasn't there yet. The anesthesiologist came and did the spinal - it took 2 tries. I was feeling pretty scared - this whole surgery while awake business really freaks me out. They set me up for the surgery and I was quickly becoming more and more numb. Surgery starts and at 9:20 out comes Ben. He cried immediately and I started crying. My first thought was "I want another!" I waited til I made it into recovery to tell Andy that. :p They had offered me a mirror so that I could see him come out but I didn't want to see my insides. It was bad enough laying there and seeing Andy peak around the curtain.
The dr said "it's a Benjamin" and then he said "he has hair." That last one shocked me. Bald babies run in my family and Andy's. Very bald babies. While he may not be considered hairy by most people my Mom says he has more hair than any of her other 6 grandbabies did at birth.
They took him to a different (warmer) but adjacent room to check him out and clean him up while they started putting me back together. They brought him in for me to see and laid him down on my chest for a minute. Then they took him to recovery and Andy followed.
will finish later... Ben is awake.

Kmmommy Thanks for the new thread!
Looking at the babies already born we are very boy heavy!! :)
Mcl yeah for being 3cm already. Hopefully you will progress quicker than me, I was 4cm at my Dr. on the 4th!
Jane Yuck about the spinal taking 2 tries! Can't wait to here the rest of Ben's birth story!
Guinness Thanks. Yes we are both grateful for his new job, it kinda funny because it's working for the company he worked for in California before we moved and they are now expanding so they immediately thought of my DH. Good timing for us!
Me I tried the mac & cheese thing for lunch today and it is gross. I managed to eat about 1 cup worth, and tried to eat more, but the A1 just tasted horrible with the cheese and noddles.

Ferris - last time it was 3 tries for the epidural, then I ended up with a spinal. So 2 tries this time was a huge improvement.
we took Ben in this morning to get his bilirubin rechecked but didn't hear back about results yet. We all think he looks less yellow but he is still yellow.
My Mom, Ben and I went to the mall yesterday and I way overdid it as far as the sciatica is concerned. My leg is still killing me.
I'm beat - will try to finish Ben's birth story tomorrow.

Thanks for the new thread!! :D
Ferris~My DH won't touch the cord. My last OB asked him if he wanted to do it, and DH asked if he'd knock $100 off the bill.
jrdhbunny and meg~Looking forward to hearing of your new arrivals!
Pink~Sorry you got so sick! :( {{HUGS}} I hope you deliver before next week, so you don't feel like you have to wait on your dr.
Guinness~I wish. I haven't had too many contractions today, though.
mcl~Good luck!
Me~My appt today went pretty well! We talked about the VBAC some more, and she is very open to the idea. She said she wouldn't do a routine GBS though. Anyway, she was very open to my pushing my c/s back a week if I didn't go on my own by the 26th, so that was good news. She did tell me that she wouldn't be on call this weekend, and if I got another dr, there's no guarantee that they'd let me attempt a VBAC. Now, I'm so not trying anything else to make this baby come until Sunday evening since my OB will be back available on Monday. Continue to cross your fingers that everything works out!

Hi everyone! As Jennylou and kmack reported, Adrian Michael was born at 7:07 pm on Tuesday night, March 11th. It wasn't actually an "emergency" C-section, just a medically necessary one. Here's his birth story...
We had met with an ob-gyn on Friday night who does vaginal breech births, and she had been optimistic about my chances for one, but wanted to try another version first. (Did I mention that in the other thread? Can't remember. Anyway...) So we had scheduled that for 10 am on Tuesday. She wanted to do the version under a spinal, and it finally started at 1 pm. The doctor was able to get him to turn about 60 degrees, and then he just wouldn't go any further. This was at Roosevelt Hospital in NYC (not the hospital I planned to deliver at).
So, ordinarily, we would've proceeded on to a discussion of whether or not I was a good candidate for vaginal breech. But the doctor had noticed that a) I was already 4 cm dilated--Friday night I'd been fingertip to 1, and b) he was still very high in the uterus and had a loop of cord down below him. When the terbutaline they use to keep the uterus from contracting in a version wore off, they saw that I was having fairly regular contractions, 4-8 minutes apart. (Go figure--I couldn't feel them.) This made the situation risky: if my water broke, which it well could at that point, and he dropped, the cord would probably have prolapsed and then we would have had a true medical emergency.
So, we decided that we would do a C-section that evening--as soon as Evan could get back with our stuff, at the very least our camera! They kept me on the monitors and obviously would have gone ahead with the section immediately if anything changed, but fortunately it didn't, and we began the section at 7 pm Tuesday evening. Not only was Evan able to get back (and my in-laws able to get to our day care and pick up DD), but my doula was able to get there in time and was also allowed to be in the operating room with me.
I won't lie...it was a very difficult experience. First, even though I absolutely knew this C-section was medically necessary--this doctor has a 4% section rate and wouldn't do one if it wasn't, and she even checked me again right before starting the procedure to see if he had moved at all and the cord had migrated--it was exactly the opposite of the birth experience I'd wanted. Instead of warm, soft, comforting, gentle, it was high tech, bright lights, surgery, unable to see anything, cut off from my baby and all that was happening to us. I also did not realize just how much I would still feel, even with the anesthesia. I very strongly felt ... not pain, but pressure to the poitn of pain even with the strongest epidural they could give, down at my pubic bone. It was rough. If my doula hadn't been there to talk me through my breathing, I probably would have needed something narcotic, which I so didn't want. Honestly, while I am incredibly grateful that c-sections are available, and while I know this one was utterly necessary, I will never understand choosing one if you didn't need it.
But finally, at 7:07 pm, 7 minutes after the first incision, Adrian Michael entered the world. He weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long--long, lanky boy! He's a little peanut (which is now his nickname)...Annika was the same length and almost a pound heavier. As they held him up over the drape for me to see, he looked right down at me with brown eyes wide open like, "What in the world is going on?" They checked him and cleaned him up quickly (Apgars 9 and 9), and then Evan was able to hold him right by my head while they sewed me up. My arms weren't restrained and I was able to touch him and kiss him. I tried to sing him this song I always sing to Annika, "When New York Was Irish," but I kept breaking down and crying and couldn't get through it.
They finished their initial pediatric checks while I was moved into recovery,
and then immediately brought Adrian to me so we could start breastfeeding. He latched on really well right away, and I spent my entire two hours in recovery doing skin-to-skin kangaroo care, putting him on the breast periodically, and getting to know him. My doula was amazed--she said she'd never seen a hospital allow that long and that much immediate contact after a C-section.
Evan thinks Adrian looks like me...my nose and mouth. I sort of see it, but I just love that he has Evan's adorable chin dimple. I kept saying all through the pregnancy that I hoped he had it, and he does!
He's breastfeeding really well, although we had to do a little supplemental formula feeding because he was getting a tad jaundiced and I still have only colostrum. I didn't want to, but it was that or have him put under the bili lights (and potentially have to stay in the hospital longer), and it seems to be helping and he's still quite interested in the breast, so that's good. If all continues to go well, we go home tomorrow.
After everything, we learned that not only did Adrian have a double nuchal cord, but he also had a true knot in the cord. Plus, I apparently have a slightly asymmetrical uterus--somewhat heart-shaped. Apparently he got his head stuck "like an egg cup" as my doctor said, in the larger horn of the uterus, and his feet on the other side, so that's why he couldn't turn--every time he got partway, he'd hit the bump of the "heart" and couldn't get any further. It helps to know that--after everything we did to try and turn him, at least there was a reason. And if we do decide we want to try for a third child, the doctor thinks there's no reason I couldn't have a VBAC. She figures that because I had a low-lying placenta, he decided to hang out higher up in the uterus and got stuck there.
He is so adorable and sweet and has such fine little features. He's also so much teenier than Annika was that I feel really, really protective. My poor little guy! Annika's come to meet her baby brother twice and has been really good with him. He started making lip-smacking noises and wanting to eat at one point, and my MIL said to Annika, "Oh, maybe he needs an eebit." (Her name for pacifier.) Annika immediately took hers and tried to hand it to the baby. She's fascinated with him and wants to look at him all the time, and for a two-year-old, is pretty gentle about touching him. We'll see how things go at home, though!
I need to upload pictures to photobucket, but I'm on a pirated wireless connection (this hospital has no wireless access--boo!), so I don't know if I'll be able to do that before I get booted off. If I get something up I'll come back and post!

That's fantastic Gina...I know you didn't want csection, but it sounds like everything went pretty as normal as far as a section goes (including that pressure, etc). If his biliruben #'s go up, when my DD had it, we dind't have to go to the hospital. A place that rents out hospital equipment came to us and we rented a biliblanket...you can see if this is an option too.

I was 2cm at my appointment this morning. 0% effacement, just softened. Not much, but something to hang on to. LOL! It's more progress than I made with DS#1 (on a Friday I was NOTHING, and on Sunday I gave birth).

I just got back from my midwife. I am almost a full 7 cm dilated so she is going to break my water this afternoon to get things really going. I can't believe I have progressed so far with no pain. Hopefully the next three cm will be as easy. WISH US LUCK!!

YAY, petdoc! That's what I was when I arrived at the hospital last time. The nurses were amazed! Especially since I had only been having contractions for about an hour at that point.
GOOD LUCK! Sending quick and easy labor vibes your way!

Gina Congrats!! Welcome Adrian
Petdoc OMG!! Already at a 7! Your almost out of transition! :) Good luck and congrats! :)
Rippy Yeah 2cm!! :)
Me Had tons of contractions last night coming about 5 minutes for about 1 1/2 hours so I called my parents over and when they arrived, they started to low down. Gosh, that's the story of my life! So the mac & cheese and pineapple didn't work! :( We are having a b-day surprise party for my mom's 60th on Saturday evening, I hope I don't go into labor then and then ruin her b-day dinner!

Petdoc Good luck!!
Me Been having cramps for 3 days now and last night was the worst. I had back cramps all night and laying down seemed to make them worse! I was ready to call the dr about 3:30a, but drinking lots of water seemed to help. I have a dr's appt at 2pm today. So curious to see what's going on!!!

Rippy~Progress is progress!
Petdoc~Wow! I'm jealous of your labor so far - dilated to a 7 with no pain!
Gmb~Crossing my fingers for lots of progress.
Me~Nothing really new here. Woke up with some contractions this morning - like every other day this week. They seem to be happening more frequently with each day though. I'm not doing any "official" monitoring or timing though. They don't seem to be coming THAT often and aren't painful.

GMB I'll bet you're progressing well! I've also had a lot of crampiness lately...I sure do wish it would turn into something instead of just cramps
tgr we're stuck in the same annoying boat together :D
I wonder how many babies will choose to arrive this weekend? I pleaded with the powers that be to have my water break or something happen today, but nothing is, except for some pain and cramping. I will force DH to buy me comfort food tonight.

Kmmommy The thing is that they aren't that painful. I haven't really had to breathe through them, yet! I just hope that when I do go into the hospital I am at a 5, so they will keep me! It's the back ones that are annoying!! It's good to hear that 3 isn't as difficult as you thought, since I REALLY want 3 kiddos! :)

gina sorry you ended up with the section but sounds like it was for the best. glad little baby adrian is here safe! jack's cord had a knot in it and was wrapped around him twice, the dr. said we were really lucky.
I also did not realize just how much I would still feel, even with the anesthesia. I very strongly felt ... not pain, but pressure to the poitn of pain even with the strongest epidural they could give, down at my pubic bone. It was rough.
this is what kept me up at night when i scheduled mine - i was SO scared of what i would feel b/c last time i was pretty out of it by the time they cut me open.
petdocwow can't believe you are 7 cm and feeling no pain - i hate you!! ;) sounds like you are going soon, good luck!!
ferris did you dr. say anything about going to the hospital? i would have been on my way with 5 min contrax for so long! maybe they could give you something to keep them going
tgr, rippy, gmb wishing labor vibes your way!
just got back from the ped., she said DS is doing great - he gained 1 lb. 2 oz in a week. we think he might have a gas problem as he grunts and kicks his legs after i feed him at night and put him on his back in his bassinett...it goes on for a while so i still am not getting much sleep :( she suggested mylecon drops, i really dont like the thought of giving him anything but i will probably do it so i can get some rest!
also my bum is feeling a little better so i am happy - i still feel a lot of pressure but i think i had a lot of swelling so it is taking me longer to heal. i really thought having a vaginal birth would be easier than this! on a positive note i only have 17 pounds to go until i am back to my pre-pregnancy weight. i still look like i am 6 mos. preggo though

Kmack-definitely use those mylicon drops...it's perfectly safe for newborns.
I almost dont want to share this story because it's that embarrasing.
When DD was just about a week old, she was howling one night for *HOURS*. I couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong...and finally called the on call doctor in tears. He, being absolutely stupid and sounding pissed for me waking him, told me to take her to the ER, where I paid a 200 dollar copay, spent hours there, was told she just had gas and to give her mylicon. I was mortified and embarrased.
hi ladies,
well, i had my dr.'s appt. this morning and i'm 4cm dilated. she wants me to walk around and go to the hospital by 6pm if not earlier. she's going to strip my membrane at 6pm and she said that she thinks i'll have the baby by 9pm. i can't believe that i'll be meeting my baby in just a few hours. we are spending the rest of the time with ds#1 who probably still doesn't have a clue that he's going to be a big brother soon. we tell him but he still doesn't seem to get it. wish me a fast and safe labor and delivery!
petdoc--looks like our babies will have the same birthday.

Pretty uneventful appt. Dr didn't do an exam because of my scheduled c-section so I have no idea if I am progressing. BP and hb were both good. Little guy kicked the doppler away again :p My stomach hurt a bit as he was looking for the hb, I think I am stretched to the max! He did press my tummy looking for the head and confirmed that I have dropped. Yup, already knew that by the increased pressue the past few days!!!
Next and last appt is March 21

me I want to get out and walk, but it's raining and actually pretty cold so I might just walk up and down the stairs for awhile. DS didn't nap today so that's really not going to help my mood!:o I think my DH needs to go get me some really good ice cream and that might make me feel better!

Me 39w today :( I just realized that I won't be able to post while I am in the hospital since DH gave his 2 week notice yesterday and they told him to just go home if he wasn't working on any deal. So he had to turn in his laptop! I should only be in the hospital 1 day though. wow I have so much to catch up on - lots of BABIES!
Congrats to Gina and welcome Adrian.....congrats to Meg and welcome Lily....congrats to Petdoc and welcome Lucy....congrats to jrdhbunny and welcome Guinevere!
I just love all the names everyone has chosen. beautiful! we finally have a name for Baby Boy - he is now officially Owen Michael. but he is mostly referred to in our house as "baby brother". DD is soooooooooooooo into him - but she has a horrible cold! I feel so bad always telling her to back off, touch his feet only, etc. poor thing she just wants to hang out with him all the time.
he is doing really great - I insisted on going to the peds the day we were discharged (wed) and going back on friday, because we had an awful experience with DD losing weight, supplementing, all kinds of BFing challenges - ugh. the ped clearly thinks we're nuts, but nicely indulged us and kept fitting us in. and at four days old (friday) owen was back up at his birthweight! I am so so so relieved. so I'm waking him a bit during the day still to be sure he nurses every 2-3 hours, but just letting him go at night. I am scared to post the details because it will jinx it but he is doing great at night. I don't feel nearly as psychotically sleep-deprived as with DD. thank goodness!
now if only he can avoid DD's cold.......
kmack I feel for you on the VBAC recovery - I too thought I would be running a marathon by now ;) instead I have this horrible pain in my right lower back/butt that makes me feel crippled when I walk. I am going to call the dr tomorrow on it but I'm guessing it's just some sort of muscular strain from pushing  I'm just applying heat pads and hoping it gets better.
tgr wondering if yesterday was it for you??
ferris like others I can't believe you're walking around so dilated! I thought for sure I would log back in to catch up and be finding out if it's a boy or a girl :)

Hi! It's tremendously belated, but I just wanted to let you all know that Thomas Dean and Maxwell Bailey arrived on the 6th of March!
This is only the second time I have had time to sit down at the computer since we brought them home a week ago. Setting a breast feeding schedule for newborn twins is no joke!
They are both totally healthy and adorable. We did have to have an emergency c-section after Thomas' heart rate dropped during labor and didn't go back up. It was scary, but he's fine.
I just adore the two of them with all their funny newborn mannerisms and little fingers and toes, and I hope that you all are having as enchanting a time with your new babies as I am having with mine.
All my best to all the mommies!

ferris She's precious!!! I love the first photo :)
I had my final doctors appt today, no change dialation wise, little more effacement. And I found out the reason why I've been having such pains lately...the kids head is literally an inch or 2 from being out. Last night was really bad, I had sharp shooting pains until 2am...I thought the kid was coming, but I could breath through it so I kept second guessing myself. I asked the doctor to take a final weight guess...she put her vote in at 6lb, 10 oz. I also calculated, I've lost a total of 30 lbs from prepregnancy to now. Talk about not the right way to go about losing weight.
My journey ends on Friday thank God. I have a late time slot...a 2pm csection scheduled. I also feel a cold coming on, so if anything good comes from that I'll definitely get a private room
I'm rooting for those of us yet to deliver...we're almost there girls!!

had to take Ben in another bilirubin check this morning. The dr called yesterday afternoon about it and of course by then I'd worked things out with my SIL for her to come and get Joey after his nap. That left the boys and I alone this morning (my sister had an early flight out today) but I figured we'd just take it easy and if we were still in our pjs when SIL came it was no biggie. So instead we all had to get dressed and head out to the hospital. Lifting Joey in and out of the car was definitely too much for me but I did it anyway. Of course we get there and the dr hadn't faxed over the order like he said he would so I had to call and get him to do that. That added a good 20min to our wait time at the hospital. Hopefully Ben's bilirubin was down today so that we can quit doing this to him. I swear it took her forever to get enough blood from him today.
I've lost 18lbs so far. The weight loss is slowing down now but I'm grateful for every little bit.

Congrats Pink and Ali!! Welcome to all the boys :)
Ferris - she is beautiful!
Solongtogo - wow, a couple inches - yikes. Friday will be here soon! I can't believe how much weight you lost, definitely not the easy way to do it!
Jane Great picture. Ugg the bilirubin tests are such a pain. Poor little Ben. Hope they are on the decrease. Great job on the weightloss. I hear you on every little bit helps!
Update on us - - Well things are going okay. Liam has to go in for tests tomorrow. He has had a high respiratory rate since day 2. He doesn't seem in distress, but his rr is in the 90s most of the time and they want it below 60. So we will have an x-ray and an EKG tomorrow to rule out anything lung or heart related (no indications that it is). Interestingly she checked his blood for anemia and he is the opposite - too much hemoglobin. It might be related, if that is all it is than the solution is to take some blood out. So we will see. I am VERY happy with my Peditrician, and that is such a nice thing - especially since it was a gamble moving to a new place.
Weightloss - well I am done 25-30lbs (gained 40-45), but it has slowed down. I hope I keep a steady decrease while breastfeeding (here's hoping, didn't happen last time). I really want to lose 40-50 from where I am now - so any bit bf could help with would be great.
Alright, ready to hear about more babies!

Solongtogo~Sorry there hasn't been any significant change. I hope the cold stays at bay until the baby comes!
Jane~Crossing my fingers that Ben's readings were normal. Congrats on the weightloss so far!! I love the family photo!
Guinness~Hope all turns out well with Liam. WTG on the weightloss so far!
Me~I was woke up with a HORRIBLE charlie horse this morning. I was half asleep, so my pain tolerance was nil. I was in tears after about 30 seconds of DH massaging my calves. He said they were hard as rocks. Luckily a good slathering of IcyHot and 2 Tylenol finally kicked the pain.
I've been having pretty solid contractions since early this morning. I was bored at 5am this morning after being awake for two hours, so I tried some nipple stimulation. That really helped increase the contractions temporarily. I've had a major increase in pressure today, though. My intuition tells me that tomorrow is the day, but we'll see how things go.

I have a few seconds...
Maggie looks almost exactly like Douglas. I should post a pic of them at the same age.
Guinness hopefully everything goes well!!
Weightloss I am jealous! I have only lost about 7-8 so far, but am retaining tons of water still. If I press in on my shin it stays indented for over 5 minutes!!
Naamah I tried sex to get my contractions going and 45 minutes later I started having contractions 5 minutes apart and they were uncomfortable!! :o
Jane So cute!! :)
Solongtogo Hopefully friday comes fast for you! :)
Uterus Cramps? I have been having horrible uterus cramps, especially when Maggie is nursing. The nurses told me that it is usually worse in 2nd, 3rd pregnancies, but my goodness they are almost as bad as some of my contractions! Does anyone else have these?
Maggie She lost 6 oz since her birth, and grew an amazing 1 1/2 inches! I HATE how they measure babies in the hospital they are never accurate! We have to go back in on thursday to make sure she's gaining weight since she is small and to also check jaundice. She didn't have high levels at the hospital but Douglas had it really bad so they want to make sure she's okay.
Me My boobs freaking hurt!:o My milk came in yesterday and when I pumped after she nursed today I got 4oz! I can't use lanolin since I am allergic to wool but I need something! I need to still type up her birth story before I forgot all the little details!

D slept from 10pm-5:30am!!! I couldn't believe it. I did feed her at 11pm but she slept through the whole thing. She was one mad baby when she woke up at 5:30am because she was starving. It's 9:30 now and she's still asleep. The not so great side is that my BBs are killing me. LOL
I think the sleep can be attributed to the calming body wash that we used last night.
She's waking up and hungry - gotta go!

congrats pink and ali!!
ferris you should try niplle nurture butter http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/duematernity_1989_75114873or earth mama angel baby natural nipple butter http://ecobathroom.com/shop/images/em-Natural-Nipple-Butter.jpg...mine were really sore (blistered and cracked) for the first week or so and i alternated between the two. you can find them in specialty baby stores or order them online...also try those gel soothies (http://www.soothies.com/gelpads_more.html) they sell at CVS, they are awesome! make sure to keep them in the fridge, wow did they feel good!
things on this end are going well...the beginning was rough, i was only getting about 3 hours of sleep a night. the good thing was my parents were here so i was able to hand DS over at 7 am and get a few more hours of sleep - and they dealt with DD as well. i was so frazzled b/c i didn't know how i was going to be able to function on no sleep and deal with DD - she was waking up just as i was able to fall back asleep...we thought DS had gas, he was keeping me awake grunting and groaning so i bought the mylicon drops and they really didn't do anything. i had been swaddling him and thought he looked pretty uncomfortable in there but kept doing it b/c i thought that was what babies liked- finally when my brother was here he said 'maybe he doesnt like to be swaddled' so i used a sleep sack that night and he slept so much better!! last night i got 7-8 hours of sleep, it was interrupted sleep of course but at least i was asleep- he goes about 3-4 hours in between feeds - but i am so relieved and happy to get some shut eye. today is my first day alone with the 2 kiddos, DD is already driving me nuts climbing all over me and whining non-stop, she is used to my step-father playing with her all day long so she doesn't appreciate it when i just sit on the couch and feed DS! gotta run and get her in for a nap

Well, today was not the day. :( Guess it was more wishful thinking than intuition. ;)
Ferris~I remember those cramps from when I was nursing DD.
kmmommy~Woohoo for DD sleeping so well!
Kmack~Great pics! Both of your kids are adorable!
Jane~So cute!! I'm glad Ben doesn't have to undergo any more tests.
Me~I had my pre-op appt today. It went pretty good. I got all of my paperwork signed with the exception of the c/s specific stuff. The nurse asked why I was refusing to sign at this point, so I explained that we were going for a VBAC. She was supportive of the idea and had us talk to an OB nurse who seemed excited at the idea of a VBAC. She said she doesn't get to see many because of both the hospital policy and the fact that many mom's don't want to attempt one.
DH and I walked laps around our mall for roughly an hour. I had a lot of pressure while walking, but once I stopped the pressure eased significantly. *sigh* The only thing that hung around was a lower backache. :(
I have an appt with my OB tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes. If I don't end up in the hospital having this baby, we'll be pushing the c/s date back.

I'm still here and still pregnant, too. :( I had contractions the entire weekend, and off-and-on the entire week. It's becoming maddening. I just want to be finished being pregnant. I burst in to tears on the way to my dr appointment on Tuesday because it hurt so much just getting in to my vehicle. Then, I burst in to tears AT my dr appointment, when she walked in the room and asked me how I was doing.
My mother and I got into a fight over DS#1's childcare schedule, and now she won't watch him over my maternity leave. So, DS#1 is home with me now (which is why I've been so absent from the boards as of late ... I started my leave on Friday). So, nothing like adding a little extra stress to my life.

Congrats on all the new babies!!!
I had a doctors appointment yesterday and still have not dilated AT.ALL. So, my induction is still scheduled for next Tuesday. She did say that she I was about 90-95% thinned out. She also tried stripping my membranes (ewww I hate that term). But, so far I have still only had random contractions here and there. I really hope I go before having to be induced BUT it is not the end of the world either way. I am just getting anxious!

I'm still here and still pregnant too. My journey ends tomorrow at noon though...I'm excited, but I'm starting to get really scared too. I just hope things go well for both the baby and me. Today is the last day I can use the "I am eating for two" excuse. So I plan on eating my way through the day :D So far I'm doing really well....breakfast was great, I'm forcing coworker to go out to lunch, and I'm forcing husband to go out to dinner. Yea, I rawk.
Rippy-that's not cool at all. And most definitely not what you need days before #2 comes. I hope you and your mom can work something out...that's not fair for her to do that to you :(

Ferris ~ I had those so badly this time. They lasted 1-1.5 weeks and would sometimes bring tears to my eyes. Your doctor was right - they are worse after the 2nd and 3rd babies.
tgr ~ Come on baby! Get out here! Sending you labor vibes.
Rippy ~ Sorry there's no baby yet and about the fight with your mom. That's all you need right now. Hope all goes smoothly with DS #1 being home.
Kimberly ~ Hang in there. I can promise my induction wasn't bad at all. Hopefully you'll go on your own soon. With DS my dr. stripped my membranes on Thurs. afternoon and my water started leaking at 4am on Sunday morning. There's still time for it to work.
solongtogo ~ Good luck tomorrow! Enjoy your yummy food today!
It wasn't a fluke! D slept from 10pm-5:30am again last night. Then she decided to keep me up until 7:15 and is still sleeping now at 10:15. Silly girl. I really don't mind though - I'm exhausted after that but she's so sweet and quiet when she looks around. I treasure those moments with her.

Well, since I'm not in the hospital with baby, c/s date has been pushed back to April 1. My general practioner finds this halarious because she totally thinks that DH deserves an April Fools baby because he's so onery. LOL!
Rippy~Hang in there!! Sorry about the fight with your mom. :( Such an un-needed source of stress at this time. {{HUGS}}
Kphillips~Ugh! Sorry about the lack of dilation. Did you dilate slowly/late with DD?
Solongtogo~Sigh. Just think though, you have roughly 24 hours at most before meeting your baby! :D
Me~Well, it looks like the walking yesterday paid off. Dr went ahead and did an internal just to see where I was. She said I'm pretty soft but didn't give me a %, and I'm dilated to a 1.5!! :D Yay! This is as far as I ever made it with DD, so for me it is a good sign! :D As I said at the top of this post, my c/s date has been pushed back to April 1st. I have my final regular appt next Tuesday. I also let her know that at my pre-op appt I signed everything but the c/s papers since I didn't want to do that until I arrived at the hospital. She said she was fine with that and completely understood my reasoning behind it.

Congrats to all the Mommies. March babies are BEAUTIFUL :D
Sending labor vibes to all those waiting and good luck to all the C/S Mommies with dates coming up.
Cramps-I had them bad for about 4 days with B. I didn't have them at all with H. It hurt so bad while I was in the hospital.
Us-We are doing well. H looks like a GIANT to me now compared to B. I don't know how I will ever carry his big butt around again. He is coming around to the new baby. He wants to hold him, kiss him, talk about him and when he's done, he's done. He has told him "no" and acted like he was going to hit him a few times but most of his aggression is pointed at me , oh joy. He's being nicer now than he was though. Breastfeeding is getting better. At first my nipples were hurting so bad and B clamped down so hard and would not let go even when I broke suction. I realized he had a bad latch and his bottom lip was tucked in and I think that was causing the pain. He opens up wider now and feeding is becoming much easier. He's sleeping for 4 hour streches at the most at night right now but hey, I'll take it. By 4 pm I am dragging. I haven't been napping. I'm taking one today when H goes down. I haven't been alone with both kids yet for more than an hour or two and I am afraid for that day. I am going to make a real effort to get H out of the house or atleast out in the yard once a day or he is not going to be a happy camper. I figure if we have a little schedule like they do at daycare he won't get too bored home with me. We'll see. As opposed as I was to daycare I considering letting him stay in part time. I think he kind of likes it now. B is so sweet and cute. I can't believe he's here and how much love I already have for him. I just LOVE my kids so much :D:D
Threadmistress-You can put Ben's stats and pic I left up on the front page but just put B for his name. Thanks!
I'm checking in from time to time but computer time is obviously very limited now. I'm thinking of everyone every day though :)

Ugh-I am so behind!! Congrats to all the new mommies and hang in there to all of you that haven't delivered yet. Your time is coming.
Well, this is way past due. Lily is over a week old now. I figured I better get her birth story down asap before I forget it all!
We arrived at the hospital at 10:30am. I got changed and the nurse got busy prepping me. She started my IV and then hooked it up to fluids. My mom and step-dad came and before I knew it, the nurse was telling me it was time to go. That walk to the operating room was so surreal. I kept remembering being wheeled to the OR with Tommy. This was very different. I met the anesthesiologist--he was wonderful! He gave me the spinal. It was the most bizarre feeling. I think the numbing felt worse than the actual spinal. All in all it really wasn't that bad. My doctors came in and were trying to joke around with me but I really wasn't in the mood. I kept thinking the spinal didn't work b/c I was tingly but not really numb. All of sudden I realized I couldn't feel anything and I could see them pinching my stomach in the overhead light to see if I was ready. I told them I was watching and couldn't feel anything. I had already decided I didn't want to watch them make the first cut but I would watch after that. I had watched Tommy being born and it was the most wonderful and amazing thing I have ever seen. After tons and tons of cutting and tugging, they were finally at my uterus. She was wedged against something (I still don't know what) and they had a really hard time getting her out. Both doctors were literally putting all of their weight on my stomach to get her out. It felt so weird. I could even see her back but they couldn't get her. Finally, they were able to pull her out and she came out screaming bloody murder!
Jason left to be with her in the adjacent room where they weigh her, do Apgars (9 and 9) and clean her up a bit. She weighed 6lbs 12oz and was 21 & 1/4 inches long. Jason brought her to me so I could see her and give her a kiss before they took her to the nursery. (Unfortunately, the anesthesiologist at the hospital won't let the babies in the recovery room so the focus is kept on the mother.) I kept feeling a little nauseous-the anesthesiologist was great about making that go away! All of a sudden I started feeling really weird. I turned my head to the anesthesiologist and said "my heart". I watched my heart rate go up and up on the monitor and everyone started getting pretty worried. My heart rate went up to 187 and then finally it came down on its own. It certainly got everyone's attention. I wasn't too worried b/c I have had these episodes before and have seen a cardiologist for it but they never found anything wrong. Finally, they were done stitching me up and took me to the recovery room. At this point I was feeling pretty good and even had some feeling back in my legs. I was so anxious to see her and just wanted to go back to my room. I kept asking my nurse how long we had been in there b/c I knew I had to be there for at least an hour. The anesthesiologist came in and was talking to me about my heart again. He said he was glad I was okay b/c he hadn't taken his ACLS classes sinces med school. Yikes!! Can you believe they don't make doctors keep renewing their certification??? Thank goodness there were nurses in the room!! Finally, I was ready to go to my room. Strangely, I was in the same room I was with Tommy. Jason brought her to me and I finally got to hold her and get a better look at her. I decided she looked more like a Lily than our other possible names so Lillian Barbara it was! She is named after Jason's grandmother Lillian and my mother Barbara.
My mom picked Tommy up from daycare and brought him up to meet his baby sister. He was so excited and was in love with her from the start.
We came home on Sunday and it was so nice to be home and sleep in my own bed. Lily is a great baby so far and Tommy is the best big brother! He wants to hold her constantly and he has adopted this high-pitched voice when he talks to her. It is so cute. He is great about kissing her and comforting her when she is crying. When I look at my 2 wonderful children, I feel so happy. I was a little worried throughout my pregnancy I couldn't possible love another child as much as I love Thomas, but of course there is always room for more love.
Jason has been so great and takes such good care of me. He makes sure I am eating enough, sleeping enough, and taking my pain pills. He has been home all week and will stay home next week too. I feel like the luckiest wife and mother in the world to have such a wonderful husband and 2 beautiful children.

Pink_Converse Glad to hear that BF is going better! :)
kmmommy Yeah for D sleeping that long! :D
Solongtogo Hopefully we hear from you soon!
Naamah My predicition was that you have your little guy tomorrow, so you better get to it! :p
Maggie is doing great. She nurses every 1:30-2:00 during the day and the last few nights she has slept from about 11-4 and then again from 5-8. I have had to wake her up for her night feeding because my boobs have hurt so much, and the Dr. said to wake her up until she returns to her birth weight which is only 4 oz.
Douglas OMG, has he been a little stinker. He hasn't taken his nap 3 times this week and is very grouchy. He was supposed to go to the snow with DH 2 times, but we had to cancel because of his poor behavior. I hope he gets over this really soon!
Me Doing good. BF is going well and I already have 30 oz stashed! The Dr. said not to take Maggie out into the world for another few weeks, because of flu season, so I am feeling house bound again. Although I am not going crazy this time. It's nice to sit an relax with my little girl. I forgot how nice it was to just have a baby do nothing! Gotta run and eat dinner, I have been SO ravenous these last few days.
Maggie looking cute and a little jaundice...

Today has been a hard day. DS has been awful all day long and DD has been either crying or eating all day. DH and I are both worn out! Bedtime for DS couldn't come soon enough!!!:o Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day!
tgr: Yay for being dilated and soft! I'm glad your doctor doesn't mind you pushing back your cs date.
rippy: Thanks! I'm sorry about the fight with your mom. That is very unfair of her to do this to you now! I hope you will be able to work something out.

Hi everyone! I can't believe I've been AWOL for so long. It's just been a real adjustment period between the post-C-section recovery and dealing with two little ones around the house! I am pathetically past the point of S/Os, so I will just say congrats to all the new mommies, and "not long now!" to everyone who's still waiting!
We're doing pretty well here. Adrian is putting on weight and filling out nicely, although he still has the skinniest little legs and butt. It's almost impossible to get a diaper "sealed" well around his wee bottom, so we have had a lot of leakage! He's breastfeeding like mad, though, which is great (if a bit tiring on mommy). I'm really happy with how well he's taken to the breast, especially since I was worried about the c-section potentially causing problems. One of the hospital peds warned me that it would probably take longer for my milk (as opposed to the colostrum) to come in due to the C; I felt a bit smug when it came in the very next morning.
Those who are nervous about being alone with two--oh lord, can I join that club? DH goes back to work on Tuesday. DD will be in day care Tuesday through Thursday, which is her regular schedule, so those first three days it'll just be the picking up and dropping off, and I won't be juggling two the whole day long. But I'm stressed about Friday! Especially since DD, usually a champion sleeper, has chosen now to be a bit more difficult. Part of it is probably the transition to her big girl bed and part just the changes of having a new baby in the house, but I think a lot of it is attributable to the fact that my in-laws let her get away with murder on naps and bedtime while they were caring for her while I was in the hospital. It doesn't matter what we tell her about sleep...they will do it the way they'll do it, and so now she expects to be indulged in a million "delaying tactic" requests before going down, and to have one of us lie down on the rug in her room for an increasingly long amount of time before she goes to sleep. Argh!
Other than that, though, DD is doing really well with her little brother. She wants to see him, hold him and cuddle him all the time. Of course, she's 2, so we have to watch out for a little mauling. And are other ROs dealing with a lot of "emotional fallout" with their older kids? Annika is a lot more tantrum prone and more easily provoked to tears than before. Some of that, I'm sure, is also the developing 2s, but a lot probably has to do with the big change in her world. It breaks my heart sometimes, especially since I can't pick her up!

hi Mommies.. Sorry I've been MIA. Congrats on all the new babies. Hopefully you're getting used to the no sleep thing.
The boys are almost 6 weeks old. we only wake them once in the night (between 3-4am) for a feeding. They are still on a 3 hour schedule other than that over night one.
We are completely on looks now for the boys. Poor Christopher got a rub cut from his bracelet. They are healed from their circ's that was NOT fun for me I was so afraid of hurting them.
N weighs over 6 lbs now.. and C weighs just about 5 1/2lbs
i STILL haven't done birth announcements. I'm such a slacker on that. I know what I wan't but I"m too darn cheap to spend money on something most people open smile stick on the fridge for a week and then throw away, ykwim?
anywho off to browse the web for birth announcements while I nurse Christopher.

He's here!
Evan Michael
born 3/21/2008
1:33pm
20inches
6lb, 5 oz
and he is a really *really* good baby. He slept through his newborn screen and billiruben tests today. He's a good sleeper, a great nurser, and a beautiful baby with a head full of brown hair. We couldn't be happier!
The second time csection was terrible. I was (am still) in horrible pain, though the drugs help out. I got terribly ill following the surgery and was in the recovery room for hours and hours. I am black and blue from head to toe, literally.
He is all worth it!

Solongtogo Congrats and Welcome Evan! I hope you start to feel better soon! You went through so much this pregnancy I am sure you are glad he's finally here and you can start keeping food down!!
Naamah You haven't posted today, so hopefully that mac & cheese thing worked for you!
Announcement's I am going to do them too, but agree that I don't want to spend tons of money on them!!
Emotional fallout Yes, my little guy is having a hard time sharing mommy. I usually let him sit with me while I nurse but he has gotten a cold and I don't want him to get Maggie sick. So this morning he freaked, started crying, and then put himself on a timeout because I told him he couldn't sit next to me. :( I felt terrible!! Luckily my parents are taking him tonight and hopefully he will get over this cold quickly!

DH is home with me this week and then I'll have my sister here for the first part of next week when he goes back to work.

Jane So cute!! What program did you make your announcement with? Yeah for Ben being back at his birth weight! :)
kmmommy So do I!
WTF? I talked to my SIL today and she told me "I don't really like the name Margaret, but I can deal with Maggie" She went on and on about it but then did say "I am getting used to it." WTF, you don't tell someone that you don't like their child's name, that is just rude!

Still here and reading along. I've been having some pretty uncomfortable contractions this evening though. I wonder if DH's gpa will get his way. He really wants Baby Boy to be born on his birthday, which is tomorrow!

I have been reading along and so happy to see so many pretty babies and families! Too exhausted to to SOs, but loving everyone's updates and stories.
Our little girl Julianne was born on March 16th.
Quick birth recap
AGAIN, we were too late for the epidural. Not at all what I planned, esp given that I wasn't able to have the epidural last time. When I called the hospital, they reassured and reassured, that I would indeed get the epidural. However, when I got there, they said I would deliver in 20 minutes and the epidural would take longer to work. I was in total shock and devastated--it is like going to have a surgery and being told at the last minute, "oh by the way...we're not going to give you anesthesia! And you have NO choice but to have the surgery...NOW." Labor wasn't bad at all until after transition. The pushing part made me utterly terrified of feeling any tears. I felt like everything was ripping apart down there--despite ending up without any real tears. I guess b/c I am all stretched out from the first time.
The best part of labor for me, was that it started in the early morning, 6 am after a good night's rest! And on a weekend, so my family was all around me (my parents came to watch our son). Last time my water broke at 1am, so I was exhausted from the start. This time, we hung around at home with our son, playing games and enjoying him, doing some last minute tidying, until the very last minute to go to the hospital.
Big sib--totally. Our ped said that is so common for the older sib to just adore the baby but to really act out for his parents. DS had his biggest EVER tantrum the other day. No tears, just screaming/crying. We couldn't believe it and almost laughed at his drama.
He is also sick today, so that is hard for DS and for us to keep him away from his baby sis. (I totally understand Ferris)
I have only 6 weeks off. I'm trying to enjoy every second.

Congrats solongtogo and waver! solong, sorry to hear about how rough the C-section was. But I'm a big fan of your son's name (since it's also my DH's first name plus my son's middle name--couldn't be lovelier)!
Jane, love the birth announcement! We really have to get some "announcement quality" photos done soon.
Taking DD to day care today worked out pretty well. We were a tad late, but nothing major, and of course I didn't quite coordinate nursing time right so DS was fussy by the time we got there and desperately wanted to nurse by the time we got home, but it's all a work in progress. Now, time for more nursing and a well-deserved cuddly nap!

Congrats to all the new babies and mommies!!! I'm so terribly jealous of you all. ;)
Am I the last one now?
I've now been having contractions for approximately a week and a half. Getting pretty tired of having to time these darned things, just to have them fizzle out. Especially when they start out uncomfortable ... that's the worst, because it gets my hopes up, and at the same time it gets me panicky about having to leave DS.
I've been doing some regular walking every day ... what's it going to take? I went one entire pregnancy + 39 weeks of this one without stretch marks, and yesterday I noticed the beginnings of some. Why strech marks on a week that I LOST weight?!
I hope everyone's transition period continues to go well. Hope that all of the new siblings get everything sorted out quickly and easily. It's something I'm not looking forward to myself.

Hi everyone,
Our little girl, Lillie Katherine (Lillie Kate) was born on March 12 at 10:50 am. She weighed 7 lbs 1 oz and was 19.5" long. She's a beautiful baby, with a surprising head full of dark brown hair. She's nursing very well and sleeping fairly well. We're adjusting to the sleepless nights
We are very smitten, of course.
A tremendous "Congratulations" to all the new mommies and to those still waiting.

alliekat- Congratulations and welcome to Lillie!
Rippy- Thinking quick labor vibes for you as well!!
solong- So sorry that your delivery was rough!
jane- What a gorgeous announcement!
waver- Congratulations and welcome Julianne! Sorry about not getting the epidural.
ferris- I can so relate to the older sibling being a stinker! I'm terrified to go out with the two of them alone because DS just won't listen. He is so defiant lately. And what is it with people thinking it's ok to insult the name choice??? My MIL has never stopped letting us know (in what I'm sure she thinks is subtle ways) that she doesn't dig the name we chose.
firefly- Sounds like the boys are doing great!
gina- Glad the first drop off went well. It is tough enough getting out of the house with one child.
Us- Things are going well here. DD is a very good baby and BF has been much smoother than with DS. DS is actually doing pretty well too, with the exception of the not listening thing as noted above. DH went back to work yesterday and I miss his company more than anything else- it was so nice having another adult around to talk to (especially one that I love so much! :D).
We have our first ped appt on Thursday. I hope DD is back up to her birthweight- she was down to 6 lbs 6 oz the day after we came home. She is nursing very well, but she also spits up a lot; not sure if it's because she sucks in air or if she's getting more than her stomach can handle. And she has blocked tear ducts which don't seem to bother her, except for the goop that's constantly in her poor little eyes. :(

Congratulations alliekat and waver!
Ferris - I used Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10.
My sciatica is still horrible. I went to the dr today and she's sending me for an MRI and then to an orthopedist. Unfortunately there's nothing she could do for the pain in the meantime. My pain meds from the c/s do nothing for it so I figured there wasn't going to be anything medication-wise she could offer me.

RO Issues:I still haven't been alone with both kids yet for more than a few hours. I am so scared for the day H stops daycare. I found out today he can go part time when he's 2, 2 days per week min., either all day or open to 2 for $20-25per day. If we can swing it I may re-enroll him in a couple of months when he's 2. I think he likes it and it will be fun this summer. They do water play once a week, I think he would really enjoy that. Plus it would give me 2 days per week for appointments or cleaning. H is coming around. He throws more tantrums now but doesn't seem to hate me anymore ;) I read him the book Snuggle Puppy the other night and everytime it said the word kiss he planted one on my mouth, totally unsolicited. It was precious to me. I don't know how I will ever keep two kids fed, rested and safe all on my own. I don't see how people do it. And keep a house?! How?
How do I change my signature? I can't remember how to get in there to do it.

Rippy~You aren't the last one! Maybe we'll have our babies on the same day, so neither of us has to be the last one. ;) {{HUGS}} I totally know how you are feeling right now.
Congrats, alliekat! Welcome, Lillie!!
Me~I had what I thought would be my last appt today before surgery, but it won't be. I've made some progress, so I'll be going back on Monday for another progress check. If I've made significant progress (at least another 1-2cm in my book), we'll push the c/s back yet 1 more week to give me another full week to go on my own. If there's been no significant progress, then I'll be in for surgery on the 1st as currently planned. She is still talking very confidently that I can have this VBAC, so that helps!
We also talked about whether ro not to circumcise Baby Boy. DH and I still had a lot of questions, so she noted on my chart that we were still undecided on the procedure. She said we could decide at anytime, and it could be done last minute. DH and I will discuss it further and let her know on Monday so that we can all be prepared for it.

At the hospital, my OB (who also does the babies circumscisions as the pedis are not doers of surgery) told me that it is medically unnecessary to do a circumscision, and that they are purely cosmetic. If you choose not to circumsize, there will be no health problems from it later on in life.

we didn't circumsize either son for that reason.

We chose to circumcise for the exact same reason - I know might not make sense, but it was a cosmetic thing for us really. OB did it for both my boys, healing time for DS 2 was about a week. Such a hard decision.
I am really far behind, but want to says congrats to all the new mommies and welcome to all the new babies. You're close to all those waiting! I am a 3/28 birthday myself, so it is a good thing to still be baking :D
We are doing well. DS is a little fussy between 9 and 11 working gas out. Man can he let some gooo LOL. He sleeps well, but is up like clock work to eat - that is my big boy. I did get 2 4 hr stretches last night instead of 3hrs . . hope we are moving towards that. Especially because I start working next week  That month definitely came fast. I just work 3hrs 4days/wk - and only for 6 weeks. It will be fine when we get in a routine.
DS fast breathing hasn't stopped and no one knows why. It isn't heart and lung so that is good. They are doing more blood work just to check other things, but so far everyone (including lots of calls to Duke drs) are perplexed. Maybe he will still grow out of it - he will be 1 month on Friday.
I have got to get to announcements and thank yous . . . ughh. I think I may wait for announcements until May because we will move and have a new address - just easier and cheaper to do both at once. He will be under 3 months - so I figure that is still game. My SIL sent out her announcements at 6 months so lots of time!
Older kid syndrome - yep we have a little of that here too. Definitely worse when he is tired, but sharing and being gentle is HARD WORK. He is very helpful though at times, so we are trying to do lots of praise for good and ignore bad (or redirect). I don't want to be saying 'no' all day long
Well that got long, hope anyone reading along is doing good. Next week we hit April - crazy, our month is over

hey everyone I have been MIA for so long - I'm so behind! congrats to all the new moms and to those still waiting I'm sure you're very close - hope you have quick labors!
we are doing well although like others I am totally scared of being alone w two kids. so far I have had DH, or our nannny, or my mom around. this very nice woman with a little boy my DD's age came up and talked to me when we were at lunch yesterday - she said she has a baby too who was home with a babysitter, and that things get easier (her baby is four months). I thought it was so nice of her to notice that I had a toddler and an infant and to offer encouragement/advice.
oh and DS has already had his first cold :( I felt like such a bad mom. luckily it was *only* the cold he got from DD, and not the stomach virus she came down with when he was 5 days old. we just hid him in the bedroom and wouldn't let DD go near him at all until she was over it.
and does anyone else have a baby that needs a facial? :o DS has the most horrific baby acne - EVERYWHERE. like, on his feet! his hands! his legs! poor kid - ped said it's due to "maternal hormones" so there's one more thing for him to blame me for  weirdly - but luckily - his face is totally clear.
circum - we went back and forth on this so many times and decided not to at the last minute. he just seemed so little and I couldn't see putting him through it. my ped said not to do anything special with the foreskin - I thought you had to push it back when they were babies. anyone else get advice on this yet?
sibling adjustment - definitely some of that here. she's really into DS, but she's definitely more emotional than usual. she gets worked up about weird things, like "don't hold my hand!!!!" when we're crossing the street. sigh.
announcements - jane I love yours! I'm so impressed you did it yourself. for anyone else looking I love the ones from tinyprints - I ordered my xmas cards from them and the quality was excellent. now if I could just get a decent picture of DS.... I had both kids dressed up and looking so cute for easter and somehow did not get one good picture out of it!
pumping Q - bfing moms have you started pumping yet? I pumped from pretty much day one with DD because of her weight loss/nursing issues - DS has none of those problems (in fact he regained his birthweight at four days, and was up 12 oz at eleven days!!) - so I'm not sure when to start pumping. now? wait a couple more weeks? and how do you decide when to fit in the pumping to make sure it doesn't impact your supply for DB?
kmmommy

Welcome to all the new babies! Congrats mommies! Good luck to those still waiting.
Pumping ~ I started when DD was about a week old. I wanted to make sure my supply didn't adjust to make only what she was eating since I want to get a supply in the freezer. I pump after every feeding. That way it stimulates production. She has been STTN for 5 days now but I didn't ever pump after the middle of the night feeding - I was too tired.
Things here are fine. DS has a cold so I'm hoping to keep him away from DD. So frustrating because tomorrow I am supposed to meet some co-workers and their kids for lunch with the kids. I'm hoping he's doing better in the AM. He doesn't have a fever or anything right now. Fingers crossed.

pumping. I pump after every feed. It'll increase your supply and shouldn't impact dc because it's after you nurse. but you could always go to bf support thread and ask marissa.

Jane~Thanks! I love your announcements!
Circumcision~Thanks everyone for your feedback! My dr mentioned as well that she doesn't feel that it's a medically necessary procedure. She said most people do it for social/religious reasons.
Guinness~Wow! Back to work already! That time really flew! Glad DS is doing so well.
Helen~DD had horrible baby acne as well. I hated just waiting it out for it to pass. I hope DCs are feeling better from their colds.
Oh, Rippy?!? Where are you? Hope you are holding your little one in your arms already!
Me~I officially overdue today. :( I've been trying to keep myself busy and my mind off things, but it is soooooo hard. People keep asking "shouldn't you be in the hospital already?" Others are absolutely shocked when I tell them when my EDD was.
As I said, I've been keeping busy here. I got all baby gift thank-yous done and my announcements are designed as completely as they can be. I just need a picture and his info now. ;) I have a couple of other projects going, but I'd really like to wait until DH is home and not distracted with his business (majorly busy weekend for him started yesterday) to get it done.
I have a HUGE pile of laundry I need to get to and some other cleaning, but I am just not in the mood to do it. I have a feeling that I'll hit a major nesting streak again right after DS is born.
The other big thing keeping me busy is that I decided to start homeschooling DD in preschool. I was going to wait until her 3rd brithday to start (in June), but she was absolutely begging me and even completely broke down crying to DH about it the other day because she "just wants to learn". We still haven't gotten any sort of schedule down, and I'm not sure if I'm going to do Saturdays or not. Right now most of the stuff is a couple of 5 minute worksheets and a coloring page. It keeps her busy though, and I think will provide some bonding time for the two of us during DS's morning naps.

Rippy- Hope to hear from you soon! :D
tgr- I think we're going to start doing some pre-school work with DS too. I can't believe you're now overdue!!
kmmommy- Hope your DS feels better ASAP!
helen- Ugh, so sorry that both kids are sick!
guinness- We've got the gas fussies during that time too. I hope they can figure out the fast breathing issue or that better yet it just resolves itself.
announcements- I ordered ours from Shutterfly. I still have yet to do Thank Yous though- I really really need to get on that.
Us- DD had her 2 week WBV on Thursday. She's 7 lbs 1 oz (3 oz over her birthweight-whew!) and 20 inches now so I guess despite the constant spitting up, she's getting what she needs. Her umbilical stump fell off yesterday; I can't wait to give her her first bath.

trying to catch up while I have a minute...........
Logan Stephen arrived March 24 at 1:08p. Weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces and 21 inches long.
I was horribly sick after the c-section and spent about 3 hours in recovery. I barely remember anything of that first night except that everyone was in my room and nicely ignored me while I was sick in front of them  Recovery since then has been slow, but making progress each day. I'm walking slowly and trying my best to not push myself too much. DH has been wonderful!!! He was never around babies and was very nervous about everything during my pregnancy, but he jumped right in from the start and has done everything!! :D
Logan is doing great! He's eating and sleeping like a champ! He was borderline jaundice and spent Thursday night and all day Friday in the light bed. We took him for more bloodwork this morning and never heard from the on-call dr so I guess he is clear now. We have our first appt with the pediatrician on Monday.

Congratulations Gina...welcome Logan!!!
My section was as you described yours too...recovery this time for me blows, and I spent a good 3 hours in recovery too.
Update on me and kidlet:
Things are decent in our house..DS is 1 week old. .DS weighed 5 lb 11 oz at his check up on Wednesday. He was released at 5 11 on Monday, so no weight gain. WE have an appt next week.
REcovery goes slowly for me. I ache and am very sore. I started getting terrible migranes so the doc gave me a stronger drug prescription. I'm not much of a happy camper this time.
DD is doing very well with the baby, she's quick to offer a paci and a blanket when he's crying. Also likes to hug and kiss him, but when she wants to hold him, she refuses to sit down, so I refuse to let her hold him. SHe's only held him a couple of times.
BFing is going well...I think. I never felt my milk come in, and I never got engorged. I can pump an ounce out of both after he feeds, so I hope this is good. BFing with #1 was a nightmare and I had horrible supply. Speaking of, Evan went through his first growth spurt last night...I was exhausted. He's been very sleepy today.
That's about all I can think of for now...it's tiring and hard with a toddler and a newborn!!

Sorry for being MIA! I'M TYPING ONE-HANDED!!! :D
My friend was supposed to post for me, but I think something happened with my text message.
Bailey Alexander was born 3/27/08 at 8:08pm. He was 21.5" and 8lbs 6oz. The entire labor lasted 1-1/2 hrs from 1st contraction to birth. When we got to hospital, I was 8-9cm and had no time for epidural. I was only in the room for a total of 38 minutes before he was born. I think I pushed five times total. It was quite a whirlwind.
Got home today at 11:45am. I've already cried four times, and feel very overwhelmed with things. DS#1 is finally starting to come around and like DS#2 -- we are also dealing with an overly emotional toddler.
I'll have to upload pictures later. I smell a dirty diaper.

Congratulations Rippy and welcome Bailey! Sorry you are overwhelmed with everything. Big brother will get less emotional, I swear!
Maggie She had her 11 day check-up on Thursday and was 6lbs 7oz, so she 3 oz up from her birth weight! She is doing great with everything else and will be 2 weeks tomorrow!
First outing I took my DS (just me and him) to McDonald's today. It was the first time I left DD. It was only for about and hour, but DH did have to give Maggie her first bottle. He said she did okay at it, but she didn't like that she didn't have to suck! I made sure I told Douglas that it was a special outing with just him and me and it was special, all he cared about was that he got McDonald's which he NEVER gets unless he's with my dad!
DS Douglas has been doing better with mommy and daddy now. He hasn't had a time-out today at all and he hasn't tried to hit me!
Me Doing good. I don't think I have any baby blues (knock on wood). Yes, occasionally I get pissy, but with DS it was bad. I read that if you don't get the blues in the first week PP you have a way less chance of getting it later on.

Rippy-Congrats! Glad Bailey is finally here!
Is tgr the last one waiting for her little one?
2 week old WBV/Update on us-B was 6 lbs 15 oz and 19 inches at birth. At his WBV he was 7 lbs 6 oz (I think) and 20 3/4" inches. He's a growing boy! It took forver for H to gain any weight. His stump is gone but his circ. still isn't completely healed so I am still doing sponge baths. Do I have to wait for his circ. to completely heal for tub baths? I can't remember. He is a very gassy, poopy baby. I should probably try to modify my diet. He wants to nurse, or use me for a human paci I should say, 24 hours a day. He doesn't really like pacifiers. H wouldn't take one ever either. I was alone all day with both kids yesterday and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. H went a little stir crazy so I had a friend and her mom over to play with him. The only tricky parts were when I needed to go upstairs. I can't really leave them alone together so I had to take one up, put them in a secure area and then run down and get the other. Thank God H went down for a nap w/o a struggle. I didn't know what I was going to do if he didn't. We'll I better go for now. I'll check in later...

Me~I hit the mall today with my parents primarily so I could walk this kid out! I think I was on my fet for a good 8 hours, so I had better have made some progress! ;) DD is staying the night at ILs house because I am just beyond exhausted. I need to get some sleep tonight (which has not happened for days) because I am in the nursery at church tomorrow. Thankfully, my team leader is putting me on the infant side, so I don't have to chase around the toddlers!

DS was settling in nicely and i was finally getting a bit of sleep. had a bit of a scare after his 2 week check- i took him for his appt. and while there i pointed out to the dr. some little bumps he had on the outside of his feet. i really wasnt concerned about them b/c i thought it was just a newborn rash, but then i wondered if it was maybe molloscum that DD had on her arm so that is the only reason i asked about it. when i showed it to her she was examining it intently and had sort of a concerned look on her face...she said she didnt know what it was so wanted me to have someone else take a look at it - i thought i was going to just schedule a visit with a dermatologist or something, but she said she wanted me to go to the ER right away!! i guess she thought it looked like it could be a virus that is very serious in newborns so she wanted to be on the safe side and have an expert look at it. i tried not to freak out but the minute i got there and they took me into a room i just burst into tears - i was so scared and was wishing DH was with me, he did have the day off but ended up having to go to the cape to pick up some things from the house. they took DS's vitals and about 10 mins later 3 people came into the room to look at him - they asked me a million questions and then said that b/c he was a newborn they had to be really cautious so they were sending down the head of pediatric infectious disease to examine him. he came down a short while later and said that he wasnt sure what it was but it didnt look like anything serious so just to keep and eye on him and if he developed a fever or got irritable to bring him back in. the whole thing only took about 2 hours but i could not shake the feeling that something was really wrong all weekend. thankfully the bumps are pretty much gone, now he just has a nice case of baby acne all over his face! i had a follow-up visit with the dr. that monday and she seems to think he is just fine, thankfully! i really did not need this kind of stress right now!
this past friday we packed up our place and DH is now officially moved to ireland!! i have to say if anyone wants to have a nervous breakdown, i would suggest moving to another country 3 weeks after you have a baby  wow that was pretty much the most stressful thing i have had to do - we had to segregate all of our belongings into what to bring on the plane (and have with me for the next 2 weeks since i am not moving until 4/12), what to send to ireland in an air shipment to get there in a week, what to send to ireland on a slow shipment which could arrive anywhere from 3-8 weeks, and what to put into storage. of course i was not prepared when the moving guy got there so i hadn't gone through all of the closets and i couldnt stand there with him while he was packing things up so i know i sent stuff to storage that shouldnt have been sent...oh well i will deal with it all when we get over there i guess. thank God for my parents, they came down on tuesday and my step-father entertained DD while my mom tended to DS and brought him to me when he needed to eat. i don't know how i could have done it wihtout them.
so things have been quite stressful lately - i also have been a little depressed b/c i feel like i haven't seen DH much since the baby was born. he was right back at work the next day, went on a few business trips, and was off taking care of getting this move squared away so i feel like we have been totally disconnected lately. i am just really looking forward to getting settled in ireland, although i am also sad about leaving boston.
other than the ER scare, DS has been doing well. he is a really good baby, just hangs out or sleeps, gives a little cry when he needs to eat, i feed him, then he hangs out or sleeps again! i had been getting 3 hour stretches of sleep at night and feeling better, but of course last night he was up every 1 1/2-2 hours so i am exhausted right now. i am staying with my MIL who has been getting up with DD in the mornings so that helps. he has been a little congested for about a week, i am so worried about him catching DD's cold and trying really hard to get people to wash their hands but that doesn't always go over so well. i just dont want him sick when we go to ireland!!
aside from being tired i feel SO much better - thankfully my hemorrhoids got better, they are still there but the pain is gone so physically i feel pretty much back to normal.
QOTD is milk let-down supposed to hurt?? when i know it's getting to be time to feed DS it feels like little needles shooting through my BB's!! i dont remember this pain with DD, but it really hurts!!
OK gotta run, DD is throwing another one of her many tantrums!!

kmack ~ Sorry for the scare. I'm guessing they thought your DS may have meningitis - a rash is one of the first signs of that. Thank God he's okay. Good luck with the move.
Letdown ~ I get the needles in my BB feeling too. It is uncomfortable but good because I know my BBs are working and D has a good latch.

Kmack-that is so scary! I'm sorry you had to go through that :(
your letdown shouldn't be painful...there should be "tingles" or what not, but no pain associated with it. If it's like a shooting pain, I'd lean towards thrush...you might look on www.kellymom.com to see if you can find answers

congrats to rippy and welcome bailey, and congrats to gina and welcome logan! I haven't gone back and looked at the first page but we seem like a boy-heavy group. rippy omg I cannot believe how fast your labor was! wow.
gina and solong hope you continue to recover.
I am being really self-destructive by spending time on the internets instead of going to bed....sigh. it's hard not to just want a little time to myself here and there.
kmack I can't imagine moving to another country right now! I keep saying to DH I'm so glad we moved a month ago rather than after DS was born. and our move was all of three blocks. hang in there!
I get v painful letdowns. I did with DD too. eventually it went away. I forget when maybe 5 or 6 wks.
I am totally wishing I'd kept a better journal or something when DD was a baby. I keep thinking, when did this happen? when did she do that? and I have only the vaguest guess.
okay. I better quit shopping for announcements/catching up on CC and go try to sleep, because guaranteed DS will be up in two hours - he's like clockwork with an every-four-hour wakeup. wish he would stretch it out a bit at night. sigh.
oh and tgr hope you have progress tomorrow!
kmack

he's like clockwork with an every-four-hour wakeup.
oh i'm jealous!! DS gave me one 4 hour stretch and one 5 hour one, and now it's averaging around 2 hours :( if only i could get some sleep!!
solongtogo thanks for the kellymom link, i forgot about that site! jeeze i really feel like i am doing all this for the first time!
i forgot to mention earlier - to add to our stress, when we dropped DH off at the airport, he was driving and pulled up to the departure area - a cab was to our right and needed to get out, so DH put it in reverse and smashed right into the car behind him  the car was parked in a weird way and was in his blind spot, i felt so bad for DH...of course it's a leased car that i have to turn in before i leave, now i have to deal with getting a broken bumper fixed!!!
ok going to try to get some sleep while i can

kmack don't be too jealous....DS is a really inefficient (slow, sleepy) nurser, so it's not like he's actually asleep for 3.5 hours between nursing sessions...and therefore neither am I :(

Cross-posted from my LJ: Well, it looks like this baby may come in March after all!!
I woke up about 7am this morning with contractions. Nothing uncomfortable though, so I didn't really think anything of it. By 8 am, they were beginning to get uncomfortable, so I went back upstairs and laid down for a bit to attempt to get some more rest. I got up to go to the bathroom about 8:30, and I lovst the remainder of my mucus plug complete with spotting. I told DH that we really needed to get up and look at heading into town (not necessarily the hospital though) before my scheduled appt.
I then got DD up and sent her into mine and DH's room to hang out with DH since he was still laying in bed. They played for a while as I monitored contractions. DH decided to go downstairs to get some clothes out of the laundry, and I hopped in the shower. I had a couple of rather uncomfortable contractions while I was in there.
Now I'm basically ready to got, but I'm just waiting for DH to finish up with his shower and get dressed. I still need to brush DDs teeth and hair as well. Then I'll head downstairs and probably work on laundry until DH is ready to go.

Naamah! Yeah!!! Good luck!!
Kmack Sorry for all that stress, but soon you will be in your new home in a new country! So exciting!
Sleep DD is a good night sleeper and her first stretch at night is 5 hours but the last few nights her second stretch of sleep has been choppy because of gas and poops.

Still here. We had a tornado warning shortly after I posted last, and we haven't been able to leave. Contractions haven't gotten any worse, but I think that's because they slowed down quite a bit during the rush to get to shelter.

Congratulations to gina and welcome Logan! I was sick after the c/s too; it was loads of fun getting sick in front of DH's entire family over and over again. Hope your recovery goes smoothly!
Congratulations to Rippy and welcome Bailey! Wow what a speedy labor!!
tgr- Yay for contractions, but yikes on the tornado warning!!! I'm thinking only the best thoughts for you!
kmack- Oh gosh, I can't imagine dealing with so much!
helen- I'm with you on the computer time. I should so be napping right now.
Sleep- DD has been more wakeful during the day, which is good, although I've never seen the correlation between being more awake during the day and sleeping more at night. We go a few days with her sleeping 3 hours a time at night to her sleeping far less (like last night).

03-31-2008, 05:31 PM
Well, I'm back home, but things are looking good!
First off, I had progressed enough to warrant pushing the c/s back! That was the best news of all. :D I am still spotting quite a bit, but since I didn't have any contractions while in the office, she decided against admitting me. I am still having some very uncomfortable contractions but nothing consistant. She checked me and said that I was at a 3, and that things could pick up significantly now. We will just have to wait and see at this point.
Personally, I think this kid will come on either the 1st or 2nd with the discomfort I'm experiencing.

SS # So we get DD social security card in the mail today and apparently someone didn't like her middle name of Aline. They have it as Alice! I was on hold for 20 minutes and finally talked to someone and told them it was there error and why should we have to jump through hoops, she promptly put me on hold and then it hung up on me! So we have to go get her birth certificate, take it to the social security office to get it changed. We better not have to pay anything or I'll be pissed!

Is anyone dealing with their toddler wanting the newborn's bottle? Most of DS#1's tantrums start out at feeding time when he sees the bottle and wants to take it and drink from it. Yesterday was a doozy of 45 minutes straight of crying and throwing himself on the floor over the smallest thing ... and it all started with a feeding.
I don't know the best way to handle it for both children to have an easy transition. I think my toddler is the youngest sibling of the group, so I don't know if anyone else is having to deal with this. But, if you are ... how have you been handling it?
tgr ~ Hope that baby is here!!!
tgr68
04-01-2008, 07:02 AM
Rippy~Could you give him a sippy of milk at the same time? I don't know how well that would work since it wouldn't be an actual bottle he's getting.
Me~Still no baby. I was up what felt like all night from contractions. They still aren't regular but getting more intense to the point that I started puking after some of them. As DH reminded me though, "this is exactly what I wanted". He's right, and honestly that thought is what pushes me through the rougher ones.

No bottle wars here, but my 2.5 year old gets plenty pissed when she sees her brother in the swing or bouncy seat, or even pack and play for that matter. She is regressing in that sense. She even climbed in my lap the other day, laid down, and told me she was a baby.
I think the regressing is a normal behavior...though I'm not sure what I'd do in the bottle case. Has he been off of the bottle for a long time? I gave an old bottle to my DD to give to her dolls and she wanted water in it, and she took a few sips, but that's all.
TGR: I've got to hand it to you...I'd be a complete mental case, and even if it was what I wanted, I'd probably beat the sh!t out of my DH for bringing that up :D Surely the baby has to come any day now...

Bottle wars ~ None here. I know he's pretty young but can he "help" give Bailey a bottle? My DS is older but I find that if he gets to help out a little he feels better.

go tgr!! can't wait to hear your baby news!
regressing - DD wants to climb in my lap while I'm nursing, sometimes, but so far hasn't wanted to nurse herself. I'm guessing she's going to be pretty obsessed with the swing/bouncy seat though - we haven't used them yet. she seemed v happy today for baby brother that he has a paci (I wanted to wait a couple of weeks before giving one to him to be sure nursing was well-established). baby brother though was not so into it....
yesterday I started having really intense pain when nursing and was pretty sure I had thrush, so I made an appt to go to the ped. here are all the things we have:
- baby thrush
- mom thrush
- baby bacterial diaper rash
- baby fungal diaper rash
I feel so guilty!! we're using lotrimin and neosporin on his diaper rash, he gets nystatin in his mouth, and I'm using nystatin cream. ugh. I hate using so much medicine when he's so little :( :(
but at least it's working - already the pain is so much better.

Naamah Can't wait to hear the news!!
regression DS wants to sit with me when I nurse as well. He won't let her swing without "wanting to kiss her" so he lays on the swing and stops it. He's not interested in the pacifier himself, but he never was.
Helen Sorry about the thrush! :(
Me Woke up with a horrible headache this morning!:( I am still going to try and take DS to the library for their weekly kids thing.

Hey to everyone else! Things are going well. D has decided that she doesn't want to be held by anyone but me in the evenings. She's fine with sitting in the swing during the day but in the evenings she wants to cuddle with mommy. I'm enjoying it because it won't last long. Every now and then it's difficult when DC1 or DC2 needs something but we're working it out.
D was especially upset yesterday because I left her for about 3.5 hours to go to a funeral. She wouldn't let go of me after that. LOL She grabbed my shirt so tight when I was nursing her.

jane so sorry to hear about your disk! at least they have diagnosed it and are doing something - hope you have a quick recovery and relief from the pain. my mom had similar surgery (um, almost 20 years ago now!) and said it was a miracle in terms of the relief it gave her.
my thrush seems to be clearing up quickly, and so are DS's diaper issues. his thrush never looked that bad but seems to be disappearing as well. but would you believe that DS now has an infected finger?? the kid is gaining weight like a champ (2 lbs over birthweight) but man he sure has a lot of other issues. I guess I should be happy they are largely minor. but I thought second-time moms didn't have to call the ped every other day :o

(I wrote this the first night in hospital)
DS#1 and I went to a party at my place of employment at about 10:00 am that day (Thursday, 3/27), for someone that was leaving. I forgot to go to the bank and get gas before I went home. Then, I had a chiro appointment at 4pm. After the appointment, we went to Big Lots to look for a rocking recliner, which turned out to be a useless trip. After Big Lots, we ran to the grocery store for a few things. By this point, it was 5:30pm and my bank was closed. So, I still couldn't get any money out, and my gas tank was on E. So, I was stressing that we would run out of gas. So, on the way home, I made a joke to my husband that I will most likely go in to labor tonight since my car was out of gas. He said, "well it's not like you'll go in to labor in the first three minutes that we are home. I'll take your car out to get gas when we get home and unloaded".
So, we got home, and my DH sat his butt on the couch to watch Sports Center and didn't take the car for gas. I started to get dinner together. I started to have some uncomfortable pains about 6:25 pm while I was making dinner, so I told DH that I would feel better if he went to get gas now. And we got in to an argument about why he had to leave right then (since I'd been having contractions on and off for two weeks, etc). So, I exploded and said "because these pains are REALLY uncomfortable!" So, he left to fill up the tank. While he was getting gas, I noticed that the contractions were already five minutes apart.
DH got back, and called my parents when I told him that was the third unpleasant one in a row at five minutes apart. I got Logan's dinner ready while DH called my parents. Then, while DH fed DS#1 his dinner, and we waited for my parents, I called my dr to let them know we were on the way to the hospital. Then, I threw the last minute things in to my hospital bag. Then, I started crying because I didn't want to leave DS#1 and I was going to miss him. And, DH was saying "you are starting to upset Logan".
My parents arrived (about fifteen minutes later, that felt like three hours). The contractions were extremely painful, and three minutes apart. We loaded in the car, and Logan started freaking out because everyone was moving in different directions at once and he didn't understand what was going on (since this was extremely different from his "bedtime routine"). On the way to the hospital, my water broke in the car. Luckily, I had the forethought to grab and assurance pad and throw it on the seat of the car before I got in. In the car, I was timing contractions and they were about two minutes apart. After my water broke, the contractions were unbearable, a and I was starting to feel a ton of pressure like I had to start pushing. I started having a little panic attack that I was going to have Bailey in the car before we got to the hospital!
We got to the hospital, and updated that water had broken and I was two minutes apart. They wheeled me to L&D because I couldn't walk anymore. My water started breaking (again!?!?) the whole way from ER to L&D. Literally, the entire wheelchair ride. It was disgusting. And I remember thinking (and I think I even said it), "oh my god, how much water is there?!" because I only had a little puddle with Logan.
We arrived in the L&D room at about 7:30 pm. Got in my gown, and in to the bed after several contractions, and needing to call for help. They checked me, and all of a sudden the room was a-flurry when the nurse said "wow, she's between 8 & 9 cm." I told her that I already felt like I had to push right then. They asked me if I had intended on a epidural. I said yes. They told me there wasn't going to be enough time. I started freaking out and crying because it really hurt like HELL!
My OB came in and said he'd put in a "block" (a local anesthetic). That hurt going in, and burned like a banshee when it started working. (Later, Jeff told me ... you should've seen the size of that needle they put in you for that block). I said that I was feeling a lot of pressure again, like I had to push. The OB checked me and said I was 10cm. The broke down the table and said "okay, just push when you feel like you have to." IT SUCKED! I missed that epidural! It was much nicer with DS#1!!!
They talked me in to using a mirror by saying it would minimize tearing if I could watch the progress. While it may have helped minimize tearing (I still have stitches and a 1st degree tear, same as last time), I think that it also made me "feel" more pain because I could see when my skin was stretching and knew to anticipate every single twinge or tear. Like I was too focused on it, or something. When Bailey's head was just about out, I started freaking and crying. And I said "I can't do this anymore". :p :D And my OB said, "oh yes you can". LOL. Bailey was posterior ... which explained why my back was hurting so badly the whole ride to the hosptial). With the next push, he turned appropriately, and his head was out. But, let me tell ya, the shoulders and arms didn't feel much better! DH cried when he was born.
Bailey was "born" at 8:08pm (38 minutes after entering the room). He was 8lbs 6oz, and 21.5" long. His head was 13cm. He didn't cry much at all and peed almost right away ... all over the nurse and the heating bed. LOL. He was hungry almost right away, too. Luckily (since I'm FFing), they had my formula in the nursery this time ... so I didn't have to use the stash I brought with me. He resembles DH and Logan, but not a spitting image. He has his "own" features, too. So, maybe he has more of my features than Logan did when he was born. He doesn't really have a lot of hair ... what he does have is pretty reddish-blonde! You can hardly tell he has eyelashes or eyebrows, it's so light. I was a towhead when I was born, though, too. He had no yellowish (jaundice) to him at all when he was born ... he was very very pink and healthy looking.
Unfortunately, the maternity ward is packed solid, so I'll have a roommate. Ugh ... Now I have to be sociable tomorrow. :o Also, it meant the baby needed to stay in the nursery, and Jeff couldn't stay very long. That sucks! Oh! And another thing about no epi ... the post-delivery cramping. They feel as bad as contractions. I've had to breathe through most of the cramps, and that's after the Anaprox they gave me. A few were so bad that I almost threw up, and had to keep a pan right in my lap. Looks like I'll be calling the nurse for some Tylenol w/ Codeine!
(I will ETA pics in a few)

rippy great story! i cant believe how fast you progressed. did that happen with your first? my contractions started on a sat. around 5 ish, by 7 i had my sneakers on and told my DH to get his things together...i didnt end up going to the hospital until late sunday night, and didnt have DS until mon. at 8:30 am! i really thought #2 was going to go a little quicker
1 mo. stats - DS is doing well, he is 22 1/4 inches (up 2.75 in) and weighs 10 lbs 11 oz (up 2 lbs 8 oz). unfortunately he has baby acne, it was all over his face... the redness/'whiteheads' are gone but now his skin is really bumpy, there is a term for it but cant remember what the ped. called it. the acne spread to his neck/upper chest. and he lost his hair in the front and top of his head, he looks like my dad now!
sick - has anyone else's newbies gotten a little sick? DD had a cold and DS has been a little stuffed up for the past week. he only sounds congested from about 4-7 am when i can hear it in his nose and he has a little trouble feeding. the rest of the day he is fine. of course now it seems to be getting worse, i try to suction his nose but it is stuck way up there.
anyway, if your babe caught a little something are you doing anything special about it? i am so terrified of him developing a fever! and i have to get on a plane on saturday and really don't want him to be congested for the flight. i forgot to ask the ped. about it, i just mentioned he was a little stuffy in the am but now it seems to be worse. she just suggested using saline drops to help loosen it, which i have been doing but the poor guy hates it! :(
kmmommy
04-07-2008, 09:09 AM
kmack ~ Not really much you can do other than saline drops since the FDA pulled all children's cold meds. Thinking happy thoughts that he doesn't have a fever and isn't sick for the flight.

kmack- We have the stuffiness too. I use the saline and aspirator regularly- often it's spit up that got stuck in her nose (yuck!). I know that in Dr. Spock's baby book he says that newborn congestion is common and not indicative of a cold.
Pictures- I don't think I ever posted a pic of Guinevere. Oops!

I am soooo bad...I totally forgot to post about the arrival of Ella Catherine! I posted in my LJ and forgot to post over here!
Ella Catherine arrived on March 26th at 12:41am. She was "drum roll please" 9lbs. 1 oz.!!! She was born sunny side up which made for alot of swelling but it is all gone now!
We are in love and Haley is adjusting well to life with her new sister.
I will be back to do a full birth story update but I just remembered I needed to come in and update!!
Here is a picture of our new princess!

rippy I agree with others I can't get over how fast your labor was. crazy! thanks for posting your story.
firefly sounds like your boys are really growing! yay!
kmack I think DS had either a minor cold or some newborn stuffiness right after we got home - DD had a cold so I suspected he may have caught it from her. but it never got bad so maybe it was just normal newborn stuff. we took him in to get seen by the ped and have her check if it was in his chest - you could maybe try to do that for peace of mind before you get on the plane. but otherwise the ped told us the only things to do were saline drops (as often as needed) and the aspirator (no more than 3x/day because it can be so irritating), and to try and have him sleep on an incline so his head is elevated. and that the only thing to watch out for is if he seems to be having issues like wheezing, sucking in around his ribs, etc.
oh, and we kept the humidifier going 24/7.
is your flight on saturday the one to ireland???

thanks for the info about the stuffiness, didnt realize it could just be newborn stuff as DD never had it. it's funny how DS is so totally different from her,i feel like i am going through all this for the first time! hoepfully he will have a good night tonight, i really dont want him sick. and yes helen, we are off to ireland on saturday!!:eek: i can't believe its time already. i still have a ton of things to finish before i leave, one of which is doing my MIL's taxes which i should be doing right now but i am exhausted so need to hit the hay.

Hi ladies.....I am following along, but haven't been posting much. I feel like I have the blues :( I hope it passes soon!
I was just about to ask about colds, but glad to see that it may be nothing :) I can hear him stuffy when he is sleeping or having a bottle, but I can't get anything out! We had a good sleeper for about 2 weeks, but starting 3 days ago he refuses to sleep on his back! I am scared to put him on his stomach all night so he has been on my chest in the recliner so I can get some sleep! He'll sleep for 4-5 hours that way which is great!!!
Everyone (including the dr) has been warning me about creating bad habits. I feel like it's always on my mind and I am holding back to avoid it. I try not to rock him to sleep, pick him up all the time etc. I just read some articles that say that newborns need this though. How do you know when you are doing these things too much or creating a habit?
kmack
04-09-2008, 11:20 AM
gmb sorry to hear you are having the blues, i went through that last time but this time around i am feeling much better. you should talk to your dr. about it if it doesnt pass.
DS's stuffiness is the same way, if i try to suction it nothing comes out, but he is clearly gagging on it in the back of his throat. try putting some saline drops in each nostril then waiting a bit and then suction and then you can get some out. DS's stuffiness is getting worse unfortunately, he didnt sleep for more than 2 hours at a time last night b/c he was gagging/choking. finally at 6 am i put him on my chest and we slept about 3 hours straight. as for creating bad habits, i dont really buy into that - i just do what i feel comfortable with, and what is working for me. i think at this young age they want to be held/cuddled, i would never feel bad about not doing it! i would love to sleep with him on my chest all night but unfortunately i cant relax when i do it b/c i am always afraid i will drop him!
oh one other thing, you can buy one of those wedges and prop him up on his side if he doesnt like sleeping on his back - my ped. told me to do this and i just happened to have the wedge. ill see if i can find a picture of what i am talking about
i have something similar to this which is from target:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/319P3ESQFGL._AA262_.jpg
gmb-i am also thinking that i have post partum depression, mainly because of all that i'd been going through with my breast. i am beyond exhausted at this point and dh has been soooo great. i have to say though that we've never bicker like we do now. i know it's because of the lack of sleep.
just to update you guys, i've had to have my breast drained for the second time last week and i now have 3 open lesions by my areola on my right breast so i'm solely bf on my left side, which amazes me because ds is gaining weight. thank God.
i'm following along but too tired to post.
hope everyone is staying healthy and doing great.

gmb ~ Sorry you have the blues. Don't hesitate to talk to your doctor if you feel concerned by it. At this point you can't really spoil DC by rocking, holding him, etc. It's important to do those things right now because DC needs that. Babies this age aren't capable of manipulating so if they're crying it's usually for a reason. You'll know the time when DC needs to start putting himself to sleep or doesn't need to be held. You'll feel it.

Following along but too tired to post lately. ;) It took me a week to get any type of update posted over on LJ.
gmb~I agree with the others. Do not hesitate to talk to your dr about how you are feeling. I dealt with PPD after my DD was born and had to be put on meds for a short time to get through it. {{HUGS}} to you.
Me~My recovery is going okay. I'm in much more pain/discomfort this time around, though. :( DS is awesome!! I'm so beyond amazed by this little boy. Sleep is rare these days, but I wouldn't trade any of it because I've got my boy here!! :D Nursing is going really well. At first it was tough, but we're getting into a groove now.
Well, I've already dozed off twice trying to get this typed, so I better turn in for the night.

gmb I also agree with everyone else!!
Naamah Sorry the recovery isn't going supper easy. My friends who have had c/s always tell me that their recover is harder than a vaginal birth, but that's not always the case! I was luckily enough not to have any tears, hemorrhoids, etc this time! Glad your DH is helping and that you have your little boy! :)
mcl Yeah for your left breast! :p It's amazing how our bodies can adapt!! What else do they have to do to make your right breast "okay"?
kmack Good luck with your flight! Are you the only one traveling with 2 kids on that long flight?
Me and Maggie We are doing good, she is gassy and always strains to poop at night! Her first stretch of sleep is still 5 hours, but I usually only get to enjoy 3 hours of those!

After going for 2 weeks at 1.5-3 hour intervals, DS slept for FIVE hour stretch last night!
Of course, he tanked up like a machine beforehand and ate nonstop from 8pm-10pm. I was dying.
He had his 2 week checkup yesterday (at 2.5 weeks actually) and is back up to his birthweight plus 2 ounces, at 6 lb, 7 oz now, and he grew an inch. We are all continuing to do better every day, but my incision site hurts quite bad still. I had a spot that I thought was getting infected because it hadn't closed up properly, but I put some neosporin on it and it's no longer as red as it was. I'm feeling pretty good about myself too, I'm at my lowest weight that I've been since freshman year of high school, over 10 years ago. I'm in fact 5 lbs UNDER the weight I had set as my goal weight years ago! So far, I've dropped nearly 50 pounds from my pre pregnancy weight. It was an awful way to lose the weight, but the baby is healthy and that's what matters most.
As far as ppd goes, I also strongly urge those of you that feel you may have it to go to the doc asap. I got it with DD and let it fester for SEVEN months. THat's not the way to go. YOu are being brave by admitting and doing something about it. I have little crying spells from time to time, but I don't think I've got ppd (yet). I think I'm just too darn busy taking care of my 2.5 year old toddler to pay much attention to it...she's such a bundle of energy, and I am not energetic these days at all!

kmack good luck on your flight! hope you have DH/someone to help you - you are very brave if you're taking two kids by yourself!
gmb, ITA with what others have said on both PPD and bad habits. my ped said tuesday "You learn with a second child that it doesn't really matter what you do or don't do as parents, babies are just all different" - sure EVENTUALLY you could be a bad parent who, say, laughs when your kid bites someone, instead of disciplining - but with babies they just are what they are, and IMO you can't spoil them/create bad habits.
mcl I'm so impressed at how you're carrying on bfeeding with your right-breast issues! hope you get some relief soon.
tgr I'm glad I'm not the only one who found recovery uncomfortable! I am feeling good now at four wks though, hopefully things will improve quickly for you too.
solongtogo I know it was miserable but I'm jealous of your weightloss. I tried on my "fat" jeans yesterday and couldn't even zip them :( oh well, I guess if I really cared that much I would stop eating ice cream every night! :p one of these days I'll get motivated...
DS is definitely in the fussy/colic-y phase. it is fun to see him start to notice his big sister, though - he is *fascinated* by her :)

too far behind to get caught up. I'm slowly recovering from my back surgery and feeling a whole lot better. Luckily Ben has been a very easygoing baby. Joey has been staying with family - he's coming home this weekend and then being sent back for another week. DH needs to go back to work next week and I'm just not ready to lift him yet.
Ben had his 1 month WBV: 8lb 10oz and 20.5in long.
He did go on formula temporarily last week but switched back to the boob without any problems.

I have been MIA, not sure why. . . . maybe being back to work  Glad to *see* everyone.
I think I have thrush - I can't think of what else it is. Let down has always been a little painful as with getting engorged a little (I have tons of milk still). Yesterday he nursed on my right side and I was pretty sore after and it wouldn't stop. I finally decided I need to do something about it, so I am treating myself for thrush and hoping he doesn't get it. I had him try to nurse off that side last night and I thought I was going to pass out. I think we won't do right breast today, I will just pump and dump. I think it is getting better. I sure hope.
I am hoping night fussiness is related? We have a fussy period from 9-11 ish. Once we get him settled down for the night he is fine, but it just seems to be a gassy tummy. Not sure why. He has been up every 3-4 consistently, but last night . . . . . he went 7  I am going with this is his new way, not that it is a fluke ;) Power of positive thinking!!
I don't have the blues, but the weightloss is totally stuck  I hate being in the nothing really fits and my tummy is so jiggly and gross. I guess it is time to get to exercise and a good diet. Clearly BF isn't going to help me.
In other news, I have scheduled an appointment for Mirena insertion. I hope it isn't too painful. I just can't do another one close to DS2.
Have a good weekend everyone. Enjoy your little ones! and Spring if it is in your area :)

Thanks ladies :) I haven't called the dr because I thought it was just sleep deprived and getting used to being a mom, but I guess I really should let the dr determine that! I cried for about 2 hours this morning because I felt like a failure :( Nothing I did helped him, not even the gas relief stuff. He cried and cried even when I held him. Finally he just fell asleep. I'm still sleeping in the recliner in the living room which I know isn't helping either. He really needs to be upstairs in his crib, but DH is sick so I haven't made the move to my bedroom yet. That is this weekends project. I need to get a rocker or glider and set myself up upstairs.
I too have a fast growing boy!!!
2 week visit:
Weight - 9 pounds 3 ounces (left hospital at 7 pounds 11 ounces)
Height - 21.5 inches long (20 inches at birth)

Guinness Sorry you are back at work and have thrush!! I totally feel you on the weight loss thing. My stomach is gross and I haven't lost anything since week 2. I am thinking about going to WW in the morning! Let us know how the Mirena thing is, I really want #3, but I at least want to get back to pre-pregnancy weight for awhile before that happens again.
gmb You might be sleep deprived, but you should still ask the Dr. what they think. I know it's hard to do, but if you are super stressed put the baby in a swing and take a shower. I know it's hard to leave your crying baby, but sometimes you have to for your sanity!
Guinness
04-12-2008, 07:08 AM
gmb - so sorry. The crying baby is physically painful and that is such a weird feeling. I used to always think - let the baby cry, until I had mine. It is crazy how the body responds. DH didn't/doesn't understand. It does get better. I second the advice of Ferris to take a shower and let the baby cry. I had to put him in another room where I knew he was safe and just go take a nice hot shower where I couldn't hear. Usually when I came back he was asleep. This DS is definitely more fussy than my 1st. We can't find anything to make him feel better. I do lots of laying him down and moving legs, massaging tummy etc. That helps sometimes. Gas drops do nothing for him. You are a WONDERFUL mother, this is unfortunately part of babies getting everything to work I guess - at least that is what I tell myself ;)
Ferris - we are up in the air on the 3rd, so Mirena will give us time. I need to start WW too - do you do it online or go to meetings? I teach health and am making my class do a behavioral change plan - I just need to do it myself!! SO tired makes it hard.
Jane - Thinking of you. Sure hope your back is getting better.

jane glad the surgery went well and hope you have a quick recovery.
guiness hope you get rid of the thrush quickly - the ped prescribed nystatin cream for me to use, but I think lotrimin/similar works just as well - it gave me immediate relief from the pain (well, within maybe 12 hours). until then I was taking a lot of advil to get through nursing sessions.
gmb ITA with others on calling dr and on trying to get a break when you can, even if you have to walk away from a crying baby. with DD I found weeks 4-8 or so to be the worst - she was sooooooo fussy. DH would come home from work, and I would just hand her over and walk out the door to get a break - usually to a coffee shop to just sit in the quiet. hang in there!
gmb4503

Thanks ladies :) I finally opened up to DH and told him about my crying and stress. It was so hard to admit it to him because I felt like telling him the truth was admitting I was a failure, but once I said it I felt much better!! He also realized that he wasn't helping things by just going to bed and leaving me to the night stuff. I wasn't saying anything because he is working and drives long ditances so I didn't want him tired, but we both realize more now that this really is a team effort. Things have been MUCH better since our talk :) I also went out a few nights by myself last week too. I got my hair cut, did a few quick errands etc. I'm slowly making myself do things and getting better at realizing that it doesn't always need to be me with the baby.

04-14-2008, 09:23 AM
gina - I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. :)
I need to start doing WW soon too. I'm still carrying some extra flub around my waist but I'm getting closer to being able to button my fat pants.
No PPD here but I guess I've had a little bit of depression just from dealing with my back issues. I'm going to try to start getting out a little this week while it's just me and Ben. Staying in the house, in my pjs, in bed all day just feeds into the depression and keeps me from rejoining the world of functional people. I'll take it easy but I definitely need to get out a little.
Ben is napping in the swing. I finally put new batteries in it and now he likes it much better (it was barely swinging before). He slept 7hrs last night! He was fussy after that and we struggled to get him back to sleep but eventually he did go back to sleep. Since Joey is still staying with my sister I was able to go back to sleep too and sleep in. Poor DH went back to work today so I know he'll be tired tonight. Oh well, such is life with a newborn.
We had Joey back for the weekend. It was hard to send him away again but my back is still very sore. If I can just have one more week to recover and take it easy I will be in much better shape and ready to tackle both boys.
I go back to the spine dr on Thursday and get the staples out. They're starting to get a little uncomfortable and itchy. I still have soreness around the incision but the sciatica is totally gone so it's a big improvement.
here's a photo of Ben from this weekend

Joey has done so well with him. He loves to pet him and just says "nice" over and over as he does it. He got jealous whenever DH would pick up Ben this weekend. He seems ok with me doing it. It's like he's resigned himself to losing me to Ben but he's not ready to give up on Daddy just yet.

Hey everyone! Things have been crazy over here since Lucy's arrival. I was having some huge pains the last month of my pregnancy that I thought were just normal pregnancy pains amplified by the fact this was my second kiddo. After I delivered, I kept having the huge pains. I almost went to the E.R. but panicked when I thought about taking a newborn into the germ infested E.R. We ended up in urgent care the next morning. Turns out I have really large gallstones and my gallbladder has to come out A.S.A.P. I have been stalling a bit because I wanted to build up a EBM stash before my surgery. Anything I eat besides oatmeal and plain broiled chicken sets off huge painful attacks that last from 30 min to a couple of hours. Needless to say, I have lost all the baby weight and my supply is doing great because of all the oatmeal :p I meet with the surgeon today to schedule the operation.
We are super lucky that Lucy is an very easy baby. We co-sleep so my sleep has not suffered much. She also gives me at least a good 2-3 hour stretch in her swing once a day. I do feel bad because I can't devote all of my attention to her like I could with Bella. Bella has adjusted beautifully. We have had a few minor issues with her stealing Lucy's binky but it is getting better.
Off to sneak in a shower before my doctors apt!

QOTD: What kind of stretch of sleep are you getting at night? Her first stretch is from 4-6 hours (normally 5) and then she sleeps 2-3 hours stretchs after that. If I could get her to take another 5 hour stretch I would be in heaven!!

Guinness~So sorry about the possible thrush.
Gmb~As others have said, definately call your dr if you even have an inkling that what you are experiencing is more than the "baby blues". Sleep deprivation can be both a cause and a symptom of PPD. Glad to hear you are doing better!
Jane~Adorable pictures!! DS is a swing baby too. Hope your back heals quickly and that you are able to get out into the "land of the living".
QOTD Sleep~DS tends to cluster feed right before bedtime as well. It's pretty much an hour on, an hour off the boob from 8pm-midnightish. So exhausting! Then, he goes to his crib sometime between midnight and 1am. I'm usually up again at 4am and then up for the day at 9am.
Petdoc~Ouch! Sorry about the gallstones! :( Yay for the weightloss and good supply, though!
Kmmommy~I am so jealous! ;)
Things are going well here. The big negative is that my healing is causing some MAJOR itching. Luckily, I'm not in pain anymore though like I was those first few days.
I'm back down below my pre-pgcy weight thanks to nursing! I can get into some of my pre-pgcy stuff, but most of it is still pretty uncomfortable with the belly jiggle going on. I'm so anxious to get out and start walking, but the weather has been so uncooperative!
DS is doing great! He is a nursing champ (as evidenced by his weight gain). The best part I think is that he is such a smiley baby. He even giggles in his sleep! :D I've tried so hard to capture it on film, but no success yet.
Okay, gotta go. My s/bro's birthday party is tonight, and we've got to be there any minute.

GMB - so glad you talked to DH and he was supportive. It is definitely a team effort, especially if you have a team. I bow to single mama's these days. Patience of Saints!!
Jane - Ben is so cute! I was laughing at the swing issue, my batteries are low enough that Liam stops - he is a big boy too, so that adds to it ;)
Petdoc -ugh, not a fun way to get back to prepg weight!
kmmommy - I would be jealous, but you have your hands full. You deserve perfect sleep baby :p I had one last time, so I know it is heaven!! ENJOY
tgr - I am jealous nursing pulls off pounds for you. I have got to start exercising (i.e. running). . . maybe tomorrow
QOTD - well we had one night of 8 hours, but it hasn't happened since. Typically we are 11, 3, 7 or 8. I can't complain. He is a cluster feeder at night, and fussy 9-11ish. Again, can't complain too much. DS1 however was poster child for sleep and no fussiness, so I now know how lucky I was because I am still pretty lucky.
So where I live a home health nurse comes to visit 3 times (1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks). She came for the 6 week visit which was nice to be able to ask about Thrush (DS doesn't seem to have it). He does however weigh 12lbs 5ozs. I think we will have officially outgrown 0-3 month stuff this week. He is long and chunky.
Littlest man calls. Have a good week!

gmb glad you had the "team" talk. sometimes it seems like dads aren't totally sure what they should do to help. I'm jealous of your haircut, I really should have got mine cut pre-baby!
petdoc hope the surgery goes well! I've heard that pain is awful.
guiness the home nurse visit is so cool! I wish that was more common.
QOTD so far his longest stretch has been 5.5 hours. his first stretch at night is generally 5 hours; the second strech is unpredictable, somewhere between 2 and 4 hours. his daytime schedule was really regular (waking to eat every 4 hours) but we've been out and about more so that's messed it up a bit.
I think we had our first real smile tonight! so far there hasn't been anything that I've counted. his gas/sleep smiles are so cute though I am v excited for the real deal :D

gmb- So glad you had a conversation with your DH. And yay for the haircut!
guinness- Sounds like your little guy is doing great! Good news that he doesn't have thrush.
jane- Hope your recovery continues to go well!
petdoc- Oh no! Good luck on your surgery and fast recovery!
tgr- Wow, big boy! Great weight loss- I am so jealous.
Pink_converse- Great weight gain!
QOTD about sleep- DD has been giving me a good 4 hours to start the night, then she's up every 2- 2 1/2 to eat.
pp weight loss- I'm down 22 pounds, but I've pretty much stalled. I have another 14 to go to get to pre preg weight and then I'd like to lose another 10 or so.
1 month well visit-
Weight: 8 lbs 6 oz (27 percentile up from 7 lbs 1 oz at 2 week well visit)
Height: 20.25 inches (25 percentile)
NP said she's doing well. I mentioned the constant spitting up, but NP doesn't think she has reflux based on lack of other symptoms and her weight gain.

greetings from ireland!! we arrived safe and sound early sunday morning. i never got a chance to log on before i left but no, i wasnt by myself - my mother and stepfather came over with me, thank God! i don't know how i could have done it on my own, it was stressful enough even with them to help me! DS was a champ, he slept from the time we left my MIL's house for the airport until we landed in dublin! i woke him a few times to eat but he was just so sleepy. i was worried that he was dehydrated when we got here but he seems to be okay. DD was great too, we brought a whole mini-suitcase of games/toys to keep her occupied and she ended up watching the tv on the plane for 4 straight hours! then she fell asleep and after an hour cried a little, then threw up all over herself! she fell right back to sleep afterward and seems to be fine as well so not sure what happened. i felt so bad for the other passengers b/c it stunk!!
we are doing okay adjusting to the time change and all the different things over here - i hate to admit it but the thing i miss most so far is target!! they just dont have one-stop shopping over here.
DS is for the most part a great baby - he is also a pretty happy one!! i was able to catch a few good smiles...

he is an awful sleeper though!! at MIL's the week before i left he was up every 1 - 1.5 hours. then since we've been here he won't sleep in his bassinette anymore and only wants to be held...i am so sleep deprived and stressed out about this, i am jealous of those of you getting more than 5 hours!! i pray for 3 hour stretche each night before i get into bed. i am hoping it will pass soon b/c i don't know what to do! last night i slept with him on my chest but i cant really totally sleep while he is on me, so i put him next to me in the bed but i am afraid DH will roll onto him...so needless to say i am not getting much sleep. please tell me this gets better!
ok gotta run he has been fussing the whole time so i have to feed him! sorry cant do SO's!

he's adorable kmack. I'm sorry you aren't getting much sleep. how exciting that you are in Ireland now! I hope you enjoy your time there.
Ben has been struggling with sleep today. He's hitting the time when Joey was his fussiest. For about 2wks right around the 6wk growth spurt Joey was just miserable. Nothing made him happy. I'm sure hoping Ben has an easier time with it. I'm feeling a lot better but certainly not anywhere near back to 100% and we're getting Joey back on Friday. I need my boys to cooperate with me while I recuperate!
ah crap. he was sleeping in my bed but apparently he noticed my departure. oh well, I really could use a nap myself. back to bed. (not sure how this is gonna work next week when I have Joey back! )

not sure how this is gonna work next week when I have Joey back!
my parents have been around a lot since DS was born and thankfully they are staying over here for a month! the few days that i was on my own with the 2 kids i just couldnt figure out the sleep thing!! it seemed like DS needed to eat exactly when i needed to put DD in for a nap or to bed. so DD ended up not taking a nap (b/c i ended up bringing DS in her room and nursing him and she thought it was entertainment so never settled down) and going to bed really late. it was so frustrating, i imagine we will get the swing of things!
so last night DS had one good stretch thankfully! i think it was around 4 hours, not sure b/c i ended up falling asleep with DD b/c she wouldnt go to bed. but after that it was back to 1.5 hours...oh well!
QOTD: along the lines of the sleep question, i am just curious where your DC's are sleeping - on your chest, in your bed, bassinett, swing, carseat, crib?? DD slept in her carseat for about 6 months, i tried putting DS in it but he doesnt seem to like that either. of course our swing is packed in the container shipment which isn't arriving until 5/17

kmack- Welcome to Ireland!! So glad you made it safely. We're having issues with coordinating sleep schedules too; I've done the same thing with nursing DD, luckily DS usually falls asleep pretty quickly at that point.
qotd- DD sleeps in her bouncy chair during the day, although sometimes I'll hold her if she keeps waking up (like now). I'm trying to get her to sleep in her bassinet; she'll usually last for about 1/2 hour at a time.
At night, she's still sleeping on me on the couch.

QOTD: he sleeps in my bed. I'm working on getting him to take some swing naps b/c often when he's in my bed he wants me there with him. Which is great when I'm recuperating and Joey is elsewhere, not so great when I have to get back to real life.

QOTD In the morning she sleeps in her swing. During DH lap she sleeps upstairs in my bed, in the evening it's usually in my arms. At night she sleeps in her pack n' play for her 5 hour stretch and then in my bed! Gesh, she sleeps all over the place!:o
DS OMG, Douglas has been terrible today! It's so bad that I have almost eaten 1/2 bag of m&m's! :(
2 more weeks So DH called me yesterday to tell me that his work wants him to go the training starting next week. So that means he won't be back till friday from La, he'll leave for Chicago on Sunday (my b-day and he won't be here for my b-day dinner) and then he would be back in 2 weeks!! I told him that he was going to be missing almost 1/2 of Maggie's life and that I don't like him to be gone that long and it lead to a huge fight, with him telling me that I was giving him a guilt trip when he's gone. I am sorry if you think telling you that we miss you and wish you were home was a guilt trip! ugh! Gotta go take a nap or I think I am going to eat the rest of the bag of m&m's!

Sorry I've been mia for so long. I have been following along but have not had a lot of time to post. Things are going pretty well here. Lily is a good baby so far and I am hoping it continues! She will be 5 weeks tomorrow and is really starting to stay awake for longer stretches during the day. She had her first real smile today and it was so adorable! I had seen several in her sleep and they were so big and cute so I couldn't wait to see it for real with her eyes open. She only did it once or twice and then promptly fell asleep. I am anxious for her to wake up so I can hopefully get it on camera.
Stretch of sleep: I will typically feed her last at 10pm and then she usually sleeps until 3:15. I feed her and then she will sleep again and wake up sometime between 6-7am. Last night she did a 6 hour stretch and it was heaven! That 1 extra hour made a big difference for me! I hope it continues tonight.
Where: At night she sleeps in a bassinet by our bed. During the day she will either sleep on me or in the mini co-sleeper in the family room. Surprisingly when I put her in the swing (thinking she will fall asleep) it keeps her awake.
kmack: Glad you made it to Ireland safely. Adorable pics-I love that smile! I hope the sleep gets better.
helen: Isn't that first real smile the best?!!
petdoc: Yikes-Hope your surgery and recovery go well!
jane: So glad to hear you are recovering and that they finally figured out what was causing all of your pain! Cute pics.
kmmommy: That is a great sleeper you have!! What is your secret? :p
tgr: That is awesome you are down to pre-pregnancy weight! Way to go.
