Hi all,
I'm a life long eczema "sufferer" if you will, and my skin, which is nearly 40yrs old, has really changed in the last couple of yrs. While the eczema on my body comes and goes, and I'm totally used to that, my face has gotten much more sensitive in the last couple of yrs. I've got some rosacea characteristics, and overall, am very very dry. Dry to the point that my face hurts to lie on my pillow. And bad bad me, I've been using steroids on my face long term, which are too potent, and I think my facial skin is steroid dependent as well. I'm working hard to break that cycle....I have also been to a dermo for the first time in 3-4yrs and got Protopic, which is a non-steroid, safer for facial use.
So I was at the book store the other day and happened across Dr. Leslie Baumann's The Skin Type Solution. She breaks down skin issues into 16 different types and makes specific recommendations based on those types.
Has anyone else had experience with her theories or recommended products? It's hard to choose when I'm so sensitive to so many products. One thing I've learned, I'm definitely reactive to something in the Cetaphil products. I was using them exclusively after I got desparate and oy vay, I got so much worse.
I've been patch tested, and one substance came up on that which I'm totally allergic to: thimerosol, but that's not in any of my products, detergents that I use. I'm going up to our University's derm department in April for more extensive patch testing.....
