There must be one other person on earth besides me who has never read a single one of the Harry Potter books.
I must note: I am a voracious reader. Just have never been tempted by the Potter books. I guess I should read one.

You should at least try one. I am not a fan of fantasy at all and I love the books. I also think its wonderful that it's a book that kids and adults read.

I've seen the movies, but I haven't read the books. We bought the first two (cheap paperbacks) a while ago, but haven't read them yet.

I've seen the movies, but I haven't read the books. This is me too. I'm a big reader and I am interested in reading the books - at least checking out the first one. I just haven't seemed to be able to get to it yet. It's like, I'm interested, but not enough to make it a priority. ;)

Nope, not really interested (at least not now). There are so many books on my long "to read" list, I don't know if I'll ever get to the HP series.
I saw the first movie, but haven't read any of the books. I don't usually like 'fantasy' books/movies. It seems as though the HP series is interesting, but it doesn't rank at the top of my current reading list.

I've never read the books, but I love the movies. It's funny b/c I like 'magical' movies and shows, but I've never gotten into that type of book. It never crossed my mind to start reading them, and then, I think I felt like it was too late to get into the game.

Nope, you're not the only one. I LOVE to read but I've never been tempted to pick up a Harry Potter book. Maybe it's because that genre has never appealed to me...

I haven't read it. I really only enjoy non-fiction. I tried reading it but only got a few pages and gave the book to my niece.
No, you're not the only one whose never read them. I have no intention of reading them either, I did see the movies though.

We own them all, and my son reads them. He tells me the interesting parts and I wait for the movies to come out. ;)

Haven't read or watched any of the books/movies - Harry Potter doesn't interest me at all...
But neither does Star Wars or any other fantasy or sci-fi story :o

If you try one, you might be surprised. I had no interest in Harry Potter for a long time. My cousin gave me the first book for Christmas one year (many years after it came out; I think this was the winter before Book 4), and I let it sit for months. And I'll read anything. Finally I got desperate enough to pick it up, and I didn't put it down until I was done. And now I'm officially addicted :).

Add another to the list who has not read the books or seen the movies for HP. My DH has read and seen the movies for Lord of the Rings, but even that doesn't interest me.
However, I do love the Star Wars movies!

I wasn't a Harry Potter fan when they first came out. I thought they were kids books so I had no interest. Nor did I have an interest when the movie came out in theatres. But, when it came out on HBO, I saw the movie and was hooked. I had to read the books and bought the first 4 books (they came in a special package at Target) and started reading.
I've been hooked ever since.

My DD has all the books and has read them, but I have no interest. I've seen all the movies (because of her) and can sit through them. The last one was by far the best IMO. But I don't really follow the storyline so when DD was telling me about the newest book, I had no idea who anyone was.

Add me to the list. I haven't read them, haven't watched the movies nor do I have any interest in them I'm not into LOTR either, or star wars much.

Neither my husband nor I have read any of the HP books or seen any of the movies. Not interested. :)
(We've also not seen any of the LOTR or read the book. :o)

I read the first couple, but haven't picked up the last couple. Actually I have no idea how many there are now - I probably won't read the rest of them until she's done writing them. (And the same goes for the Outlander series). They really are well written easy fun reads, but I want to know what happens. At the end. The end end.
I've never seen any of the movies though. Does that count?
Nope. I didn't like fantasy when I was a kid, so I doubt I would develop a taste for it in my late 20s.

No, me neither. I have zero desire to read them and only thought the movies were "ok"

I read the first one. After I watched the first movie, I decided it was a waste of my time to read the books since the first one was so much like the movie. I've been told this isn't really true, but that was my impression and I have no interest in reading any more of the series.
Add me to the list. I haven't read them, haven't watched the movies nor do I have any interest in them I'm not into LOTR either, or star wars much.

I read the first 5 books last year. For years, I had no interest whatsoever. One of my friends emailed me the first 4 books in a pdf file. I wasn't reading anything at the time, so I figured, what the heck. I printed out a couple of pages and I was hooked. The 5th book, she bought and then let me borrow it. I won't read the 6th book til the 7th book comes out. I hate waiting.
If anyone does have any interest in reading the books, for free, I think I might still have the pdf files at my computer at work. Just let me know.

I never read any of them. I don't care for the fantasy genre either. Although, I am intrigued by all the fuss about them, so I may pick them up someday.
Now, what I want to know is, is there anybody out there who has not read the DaVinci Code? ;)

I haven't read them either. I tried when the first book was very popular and only made it to page 10 or so and got bored and distracted with it. However, I really enjoyed the movies and decided to try the first book again. I checked it out from the library maybe a month or so ago, got 5 pages in and just didn't care and returned it.
I've also never read the LOTR or seen the movies. Or the Davinci Code.

Never read a single Harry Potter book. Although I HAVE seen the movies, and that's good enough for me.
DH just finished reading the first book and is now onto the 2nd one. He's really into it now, and is encouraging me to read them too... but I have no interest.
Same with Lord of the Rings. He LOVES the books, but watching the movies is good enough for me :)

I've seen all the movies multiple times (can't wait for the 4th one!) and have read up through book 4, but I never got past the first few pages of book 5... I'm currently listening to book six on CD though... I think is the way I'm gonna go, 'cuz it's much more interesting to hear it, with voices (that sound nothing like in the movie BTW) than to read it...
But I do love the fantasy genre... I'm a HUGE LOTR/Star Wars fan...
Though I have not yet read The DaVinci Code...

I'm not against the idea of trying one out. I just realized, wow, this is a cultural phenomenon that I have not even attempted to dip into. I don't like LOTR or Star Wars but I at least have seen Star Wars (you had to if you were alive in 1977), and I read Tolkien when I was a kid.
What I mean, I guess, is--I don't care for either of these HUGE phenoms, but I at least know some of the characters' names. I don't know a damn thing about Harry Potter. Except he wears glasses and he's a wizard.
I may see if I can get one used on Amazon, or something. Which one is the very first one? I don't even know that!

The first Harry Potter book is called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

I haven't read any of the HP books, either. I haven't seen the movies and I don't plan on it. Embarrassingly enough, I get HP and LOTR confused all of the time. They are just the same to me. I'm not into sci-fi, fantasy, or anything related. I've never seen Star Wars, either. I have not read the DaVinci Code.

Don't judge the books by the movies...they are spineless nothings in comparison with the books. The movies are like 1/10th of the books.
Personally, I am a huge literature fan. I used to be an english major and I've read most of the "major books and authors" out there and studied everything from shakespeare to austin and back again, and the harry potter books are some if not THE most brilliant and intelligent and well-written books I have ever read.
ON the surface, they're a childrens book yes, but if you delve beneath the surface, and really start to see what else lies there, it's amazing. Think the Narnia series...kids books on the surface..intellectual, complicated, brilliant and deep underneathe.
The incorporations of greek mythology and latin and other literary styles and insinuations are brilliant.
There are even starting to be university classes popping up in certain universities, devoted to the study of harry potter.
I recommend to anyone wanting to see the genius behind these books to buy one of the many anthologies written about them and read them along with the books.
I can't say enough.:)

I haven't read any of them either. I don't know why... It seems like a series I'd enjoy. I'm thinking maybe I'll try the audiobooks since I have a 2 book per month subscription through audible.com.

I've never read a single one, nor have I seen the movies. And I don't plan to. I'm also completely out of the loop on Lord of the Rings, and as far as Star Wars goes? I saw the ones that were out when I was a child, didn't pay much attention to them though. I have not read the DaVinci code.
I guess the reason is that none of these things interest me. I have VERY little time to enjoy on my own, so I want to make sure that I'm doing something I truly enjoy with it.
Can anybody suggest a good author that isn't sci-fi/sex/fantasy??? I really used to be into Stephen King, but the last time I really followed any book series, they were of the Sweet Valley High/Babysitters Club/Christopher Pike/Fear Street teen variety. I have read a few Mary Higgins Clark and most of the VC Andrews books, but they still aren't really my cup of tea. I'm open to suggestions!

I haven't read any of the books, either. I haven't even seen the movies. With all the excitement that surrounds the release of a new book, I've been tempted to start reading them. It always seems like those who read them are diehard fans. Maybe if I come across the first one at a used bookstore I'll pick it up.

Another person who hasn't read Harry Potter. I do own the first movie on DVD, though. My brother gave it to me for a birthday gift a few years ago. It's never made it anywhere near the DVD player!
I have to tell you- I was extremely adamant about NOT reading any of the Harry Potter books due to what I percieved was the juvenile aspect of them. My sister made me promise to read the first book as a birthday present to her this year.
I actually just read the first book, and while it is not the most complex, or intriguing literary piece I have ever read, I thought it was interesting and well written. I will read the other books in the series now. The only problem is that now I have to admit to my sister that she was right- I did enjoy reading it.
