I was in Sephora this weekend, looking at NARS blushes. I found a color I loved, but I couldn't figure out why the textture was different. After reading the displays, I discovered that the color I liked was a cream blush.

I decided not to get it, because I don't know anything about cream blushes. So, if you use a cream blush, how do you apply it? Are there any conditions where you wouldn't use a cream blush (weather? skin types?).

I'm just so darn curious about it.

I use cream blushes and eyeshadows all the time. I've applied it with my fingers (clean) mostly, but sometimes I will use a makeup wedge sponge or even a sponge applicator (for the eye shadow).

The reason I like cream is because the colors go on so nicely and on my caramel colored skin, they show up better. And the NARS formula is so perfect.

I've also seen the cream blushes applied with a really, really soft synthetic brush (you have to really build it out). It works pretty nicely, imo.

One tip I learned was to apply the cream blush in a heavier dose before I put on my powder or anything (because then I could tone it down) and it's easier to put on the creamy stuff on a bare face (for me at least).

I dont have any cream blush, but use cream eyeshadows pretty frequently. I usually either apply with my fingers or the applicator (if included). I like the cream formula becomes it goes on in a much more controlled manner than powder.

Actually, I take that back . . . I do have one cream blush, but its more of a shimmer type thing. I normally use it as a highlighter.

I think the big thing with the blushes is that its key to blend, blend and blend some more. Because they stick to the skin easier, I think there is a tendency to get a bit streaky.

I use smashbox's cream eyeliner and cream blush. The eyeliner I apply with their tiny angled brush, the blush I just dab/sweep across my cheek (and sometimes across the top of my forehead to imitate the way sun naturally tans me,) and then blend with my fingers. I find it blends so easily, stays all day, and looks much more natural than powder because of the way it sinks into skin instead of sitting on top of it. The key is to apply really lightly at first, it builds well, and allows for any "learning curve" in transitioning to cream.

I only buy cream blush (but then, I also use creamy foundation in a stick, and usually cream eyeshadows). I really like how I can simply dab a little and pat it on my cheeks just right and it looks really natural (I just use my fingers). I wear a peachy color more than anything.

I use Bloom's Sheer Color Cream as blush and love it. I have a golden shade and a light pink one. I apply with my fingertips and blend. The product is as advertised, very sheer, so it doesn't need a whole lot of fussing. I tend toward dry skin, live in a hot humid climate, and use it year-round.

I use both powder blush and Stila convertible color (http://www.stilacosmetics.com/product_detail.asp?PMID=207&category_id=5&pos=1&viewall=)in peony. The theory is that you're supposed to be able to use it on your cheeks & lips, but I just use it on my cheeks. It's very natural looking and fool proof. I usually apply it to the apples of my cheeks and I like that the color doesn't fade as much as powder.

I hadn't really thought about it, but I guess I tend to use the cream blush more in the fall/winter/spring than summer. I wear sunscreen every day during the summer, so lotion, sunscreen, cream blush & powder seems a little heavy. Probably more psychological than anything, I'm sure it would be fine :)
