My husband and I are now seriously considering taking a bike trip through Denmark by ScanTours in late July? Has anyone taken a bike trip through any part of Europe? Where did you go. Was it a guided or independent tour?
I'd be interested in your observations. Thanks.

I took a barge/bike trip through Belgium and Holland last April. It was for 7 days/nights and it was fabulous! I began by flying into Amsterdam and spending a couple days there. Then the tour operator bussed us to Bruges where the boat was waiting for us. Every day, in the morning, we had a choice to either do a bike tour of the countryside or spend the day on the boat and touring the local towns that the boat stopped at. During part of the day the boat would sail through the rivers and canals and meet up with the bike group in the afternoon. It has to be one of the best trips I've been on in Europe....I ended up seeing lots of old historic villages and riding through the countryside.
I booked the trip through Van Gogh but it was run by Hat Tours. I booked it last minute and ended up getting a great deal.
ETA: The biking part was guided. We had 2 guides. One of them was a complete fool and the other one was very knowledgable.

We've actually changed our minds since my original post. We are about to book a 7 day self-guided tour that starts in Vienna and ends in Prague. We will be satisfying my husband's desire for an active vacation and my desire to see my relatives' country of origin, the Czech Republic.
Our tour is through BikeToursDirect, a European outfitter. http://www.biketoursdirect.com//index.php?location=home
Our hotels, luggage transfers, bike rental. GPS console and detailed maps are provided but we're on our own in terms of getting from Point A to Point B every day. I'm both excited and a little apprehensive.
