I'll admit, I am a crappy searcher, but I tried to search chit chat for that thread about CC drinkers where we'd post about what we were indulging in that night. Is it gone now? Or am I just completely missing it?

I searched "drink", "alcohol" and "vodka" with no luck.

eta - I searched for several things (including a simple "wine") and can't find it!

Please ladies! Remember those of us who love our regular wines, margarita's, and vodka tonic's but can't have them right now.

Be kind enough to drink one for us once in a while?

I have been sober for 103 days (yeah, I'm counting). This is the longest I've been sober in my entire life (or at least for the past decade and a half or so). I've had a few drinks since I got pregnant, a glass or wine or a beer maybe every other week, and I've gotta say, this not being able to get plastered crap is for the birds. DH is already on alert that as soon as I get this kid outta me, I'm drinking myself into a coma.

In the meantime, can somebody please drink a Jack on the rocks and a shot of 151 for me? Extra points for doing a body shot of tequila off of somebody, too.

I understand missing an occasional drink, but saying you can't wait to get "plastered" and "into a coma" drunk are different than a drink. It concerns me.

Thanks for your concern, MrsWilson. It warms my heart to know that a complete stranger would take it upon herself to fret over my drinking habits in a thread about drinking. By the way, although I was using some amount of hyperbole in my initial post, I do enjoy my alcohol, and I did drink regularly before I got pregnant.

you know I always said I was going to have a glass of wine at my shower but I never did. And I didn't drink after I had my son right away because I BF. To think of it, I guess I don't drink as much as I used to pre-kid. I guess the whole being wasted/hungover and getting up with a kid the next day doesn't appeal to me.

imagirliegirl

This thread is meant to be lighthearted and silly. Any comments made here are under that pretense.

Seriously, if you evaluated my words any other way you'd think I'm some nutty ass drunk. I'm sure the pregnant women here don't intend to go into a coma any more than I do.

I'd pass out WAY before then. :D

Anyway, please don't fight in this thread. Silly. Fun. Have serious conversations through PMs or something.

Well, I just found out that Bols is no longer making Pumpkin Smash, which is a necessary ingredient in my favorite pumpkin martini (it's liquid pumpkin pie-y heaven!) So what did I just do? I found an online retailer in New Jersey that still had two bottles and am having it shipped to me in Los Angeles. Is that too obsessed with liquor? :D

I've had it and like it! It has a rather interesting taste. I've only had it a few times though. I like the idea of mixing it with something else, I've only ever drank it straight.

My new favorite drink that I am currently enjoying:

Captain Morgan and diet coke. Its yummy and I feel way less guilty drinking it than a sugar-laden margarita.

Try mixing a little peppermint schnapps AND Bailey's into hot chocolate...had it at a ski resort where they called it a "hot tub." Talk about warm heaven in a mug! With whipped cream, of course... :D

re: Hypnotiq. That stuff is the bomb (totally agree about the hangover). I first had it at a Bonefish Grill and they served it with a blue glow stick. On the way home, I thought it was funny to put a glow stick in each nostril and one in each ear, so other drivers would see me inside the SUV (DH was driving). Yea, it's strrrrooooong.

Sorry I'm such a slacker and I didn't get a chance to get back. So let's recap....alcohol, alcohol, and more alcohol.

The best night of my vacation was when my stepmom, sister and I made sidecars. We were trying to re-live our night on the town in NYC. A few years ago we hung out at the bar at the Crowne Plaza in Times Square and had quite a few rounds of sidecars. When I get the exact recipe in front of me I'll post it, but the basics are cognac, cointreau, and sour mix. OMG, I was on my ass after 4. I didn't get right until 2pm the next day. It was rough there for a while....all I could do was hold my head. Oh the good times.

So the rest of the trip was filled with margaritas, reisling, and a really yummy summer/dessert wine from Argentina called New Age. It's absolutely the best wine ever! My best friend and I load up when we go to Buenos Aires. Luckily I found a place here in Atlanta that sells it.

So that's my vacation in a nutshell....a happy, toasted good time!

If its a full open bar, you should be able to get whatever kind of drink that you want. If its a cash bar, you might have limited options.

If they do have a full bar, think about ordering a mojito. It's made with lime juice, simple syrup, mint, and rum. So good, and refreshing!

I agree about mojitos or if you like martinis, try a Lemon Drop or a Cosmo.

If it's a cash bar, you may be able to get Malibu rum and pineapple juice or some good vodka and cranberry juice w/ a splash of pineapple (I know there's a name for, but can't remember.) Loves it!

A martini is gin and vermouth. A vodka martini is vodka and vermouth. There are also a variety of "martinis" that are mixed drinks served up, in a martini glass.

If I need a simple mixed drink, I get a gin & tonic. You could also do vodka tonic, as gin makes some people weepy.

I love tequila too, but it has to be a good tequila, none of this Patron stuff. ;) We got back from Mexico and have a few good bottles. Including one which tastes like margaritas (and since its straight tequila, that's going to be one dangerous bottle!). Its so nice to sit on the deck and have a glass to sip.

I stopped drinking last year because of an ulcer, but every now and then I'll have a drink or two (and pay for it a day later). The ulcer is gone, but the stomach issues aren't. Oh well, I was getting a little crazy with the drinking anyway (not that that is a bad thing). :)

Anywho, I'm really digging Sangria lately. I'm going to make a pitcher of it for DD's HS grad party (for the adults of course). Anyone know of a good recipe?

Anyone know of a good recipe?

I love this recipe. It's a must at my community's First Friday social. If I dare walk in without it, all hell breaks loose. I usually use the Trader Joe's 2 buck Chuck shiraz. It has a nice flavor and is perfect for making sangria. Also, as you can see, this recipe is easy to double or more.

Classic Spanish Sangria

INGREDIENTS:
1 lemon
1 lime
1 orange
1 cup rum
1 (750 milliliter) bottle dry red wine
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup white sugar

DIRECTIONS:
1. Have the fruit, rum, wine, and orange juice well chilled. Slice the lemon, lime and orange into thin rounds and place in a large glass pitcher. Pour in the rum and sugar. Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours to develop the flavors.
2. When ready to serve, crush the fruit lightly with a wooden spoon and stir in the wine and orange juice. Adjust sweetness to taste.

Well I live in Mexico and if you love tequila, I highly recommend "pulque". Pulque is what tequila is before it gets processed into "mezcal", and then into tequila. You'll want a flavored pulque, however, because just plain isn't very appealing. They have every flavor you can think of such as pineapple, watermelon, strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, tamarind, etc. Oh and a little goes a long way, meaning, it'll get you drunk, and fast. This is why many pulque bars do not allow women, it's so strong they thought it'd kill us poor, little, defenseless girls. ;) It's not so much like that now, however, and there are tons of places that sell pulque that are family restaurants and for both sexes. :D

Ohhhh... me want to try. :D I've already informed DH that we are trying that on our next trip. We are always up for trying new things. Thank you so much for letting me know about that. I think that was the thing that amazed me about Mexico this time, the flavored tequila, I don't think I remembered that from our honeymoon. The funniest thing I thought though was that we got La Cofridia the first time we were down there, and no one ever heard of it.... and it seemed this year when we went down there was tons of it!

Oh and if anyone was offended by my Patron comment I apologize. It was meant to be a joke, based off of a comment from a local who said most Americans came into the store looking for Patron.

If you get a top shelf margarita, there is less sugar. :) Its basically tequla, grand marnier (or equiv.), lime juice, and a bit of sugar water. Much less sugar than having tequila with the mix.

But I have to agree with you on the diet coke and captain. Its been my fall back occasionally since we always have to keep diet coke in the house for MIL. :)

I love cherries in sangria. Sometimes I add them if I have them. For the fruit, the citrus is just suggested. Sometimes I really want sangria, but I don't have any fruit and it still tastes fine without it or I may only have one of them.

Make it to taste and you definitely will not be disappointed. This is a good one that packs a nice punch.

What is a Flaming Dr. Pepper?

imagirliegirl
08-10-2008, 08:29 PM
It's a drink that tastes exactly like Dr Pepper. At bars they'll light them on fire.

Here's more exact info:
The Flaming Doctor Pepper is a flaming cocktail said to taste like the soft drink Dr Pepper, although it does not contain any soda. It is usually made by filling a shot glass 3/4 full with Amaretto, and 1/4 high proof liquor (such as Everclear or Bacardi 151) to make it flammable. (The two liquors are not mixed; rather, the high-proof alcohol is layered on top to burn more easily.) The shot is then set on fire and dropped into a glass half-filled with beer. The flaming shot is extinguished by the beer, which foams up and is then quickly consumed. A common variation is to use Amaretto and Kahlua.

Adaya--

Thanks! I'll have to call my local state store and see if they carry it. I won't go in person because they probably haven't heard of it and will look at me like I'm stupid. I get that enough as it is! ;)

I googled "champale" and I found this picture:

"Hey, Diane! I've got a drink that'll make your mouth think it's Saturday night!" Nice! ;)

ETA: This one is good, too!

Brandles, those are pretty funny.

I recently read somewhere that Champale was the first alcoholic beverage advertisement in the African-American community. And when I saw those too ads, it reminded me of that.

So, on the good versus bad stuff, is Champale along the lines of Mad Dog or Boone's, or is it a step up?

Just furthering my education. . . .

Hmm, I would say it's a step up only because one of the old ads I read said, "it's sparkling and elegant." ;)

Just kidding. It tastes better than Mad Dog and not as sweet as Boone's.

DH thinks I'm crazy for going on a "wild goose chase" again for something! He just knows that if Champale is found out of town where he works, he'll have to pick it up for me! ;) I'll be going to another city in two weeks, I'll check both state stores there.

I started drinking merlot when I was making Faux Apple Pie (using zuchini!).

And as a Champale update--I called both state stores in Newark--NADA. I even called Cut Rate Liquor across the Ohio River in West Virginia and they don't even carry it! I'm going to have to try Columbus.

Adaya--
Where do YOU find champale?

Thanks, Adaya!

I'm beginning to wonder if it's a southern thing. In Ohio, you have to go to a state liquor store to buy the hard stuff. It's a pain. I've been to Kentucky and Illinois, where they sell "hard stuff" at grocery stores and even Macy's! I'll have to locate the state stores in Columbus and call around to see if they carry it.

No drinking for me last night...I went to a cake auction (and ended up with 2 cakes...well...one was a "wedding cake" made out of pizza instead of cake!) and wasn't home until 10pm. 10pm + wine = headache in the morning!

Yeah, DH said he didn't see any Champale in the county store either. He did say he saw Cold Malt Duck. Which I passed on. *Blech*
We're dry tonight. Don't know how that happened. Booooo!

Cake auction? Do tell more. Never heard of that, but if cake is involved, it must be good.

It was earlier this afternoon, but I had a delicious sour apple martini from Cheesecake Factory. I'd never had one before so I have nothing to compare it to to know if it was a good one or not, but I really liked it! I just got a recipe for mojitos from a friend, so thinking about making that tomorrow--yum!

I am still amazed that some people find this cake auction thing a foreign concept! I had to explain it to a fellow scrapbooker from out of the Ohio area who had no idea what it was.

Businesses (and sometimes individuals who are running for office) have cakes baked and decorated uniquely of their profession and/or name on them. They put an "incentive" with it like a Wal-Mart gift card, GC's to local restaurants, a GC for what their business is or a discount, a basket of toys or other products. They get really creative: a health organization had a "butt cake" with a real syringe (without the needle) sticking out of it or a fondant of a sick person in bed, a restaurant here made a spaghetti and meatballs cake (banana cake, butter cream icing was the "noodles" and the meatballs were all chocolate). We got to vote for the most unusual and our favorite cakes. They went first.

It is all donated to a local organization for them to raise money. This one was the local BPW. There's a HUGE 2 day long cake auction in Zanesville that's been going on for 30 years now to benefit the Carr Center (non-profit organization serving the county's people with disabilities) that has up to $1,000 incentives!)

There is an auctioneer who announces the cakes and their incentives and then takes bids. You win the cake and the incentive. There is A LOT of cake! In Zanesville, it's often donated to the county home and they have it for dessert for weeks!

This year, I got a small Corning Ware carrot pudding cake with lemon topping (~6 servings) and a "wedding cake" made out of East of Chicago Pizza. Not much cake at all! I usually cut it up into 2 large piece servings, wrap it in saran wrap and tin foil and freeze it. I still have left over full sheet cake from April's Carr Center Cake Auction in the freezer! And DH took 1/4 of the cake to work with him!

Sorry for the hyjack....
Last night, I made a Prickly Pear Cooler: Tastefully Simple's Prickly Pear mix, 8 oz. water and 2/3 cup vodka (I like my drinks strong!). Yum!
