Hey! Anyone that wants pics of your LO post them. I thought we might want some updated ones. Also I can either go through old posts and update the stats (weight and stuff) or delete. What do you guys think?? Also I think we may have missed some new members. If we did will you please post your info like it is in the first post? None of us spent much time TM'ing the last thread since we all had young babies. I am going to try and keep this up more:cool:.

Thanks Annie!

I like the idea of posting and updated pic. I'll get one to you soon. Also, I think it would be much easier on Annie and the rest of the Tm's, if everyone would just post stats again if you want them listed. Maddy has a dr's appt in a couple hours so I'll be back with new ones then!

Kym,
Kristianna is so cute!! I cannot believe how long her hair is!

Maddy is now 17lbs 13oz and I can't remember the length she told me because Maddy was screaming at the time. All was fine. The dr. said he could tell she's had an ear infection that cleared up on it's own. That was a big surprise to me since she's never acted like she had one.

A new pic for the beginning of the thread..

Thanks for the new thread! Much less overwhelming.

I love, love love seeing the pictures.

Jimmysgirl, Kristianna looks like such a sweet little girl. and I love the hat! She's beautiful.

Katie, WOW what riveting eyes. She looks like an old soul. You always have such beautiful pics.

As for Liam, he sat for the first time today! He had such a fun and easy time of it, I am thinking he probably would have done so before if I'd perched him like this. Anyway, today was a snow day for me, and I'm so glad I got to be home with him, watching him laugh like crazy for 10 minutes while he stared at his musical turtle thing.

Stats: I don't remember them all from previous months, but at our 4 month visit (a month ago already?) Liam weighed 17 lbs, 4 oz and measured 26.75 inches.

Yay Liam! He looks so proud of himself!

You know, I think you're the first person who has said that, but I really agree. She's such a serious baby, taking everything in around her. And thanks! We have a fantastic photographer and luckily my parents pay for prints.

Hi all.
Thanks for the new thread!

Signing- I am signing to him. He can't make the sign yet. But he knows when I lift my shirt that it is time to nurse... SO I thought I should start signing. Man I wish he was signing. I know he won't start to sign back until about 9-10 months but he will "know" what the sign means by about 7-8.

Teeth- OMG! we have 2! how did that happen. He was so super cranky one day. he would not stop nursing and if I put him down on the floor, bed, chair, car seat hew would SCREAM! I had no idea. the day care lady told me the next morning. they are so cute. these two little white SHARP teeth just poking through the gum

Food- I mashed up a canned pear today.. most of it was swallowed. I keep trying rice and oatmeal but I usually get rasperried on pretty quickly and if it is to lumpy, he spits it out and cries.

I forgot to put our 4 month stats as of 11.30.07 15 pounds, 13 oz, 25" loong. head was 17 cm. next appt is Feb 1. I know he has grown as is in 6-9 month clothes...

Signing - I should start signing with DD. I know I should. But I've been signing with DS for the past year and a half, and he's never once signed anything back, so I don't have a lot of incentive to continue with DD.

Food - H is eating everything I offer her. Even if I think it's too thick or chunky. My mom says that when I was a baby, I couldn't get enough food. I'm beginning to think my daughter takes after me. :)

Teeth - No teeth yet! I kind of expected them by now. I got my first tooth when I was 3 months old. There aren't even little bumps under her gums or anything.

Hands/Knees and Crawling - Over the past couple of days, H has learned how to get up on her hands and knees. So exciting! It's not very controlled at this point, but it sure is fun to see her with her tummy off the floor! I can't believe she's getting so big!

Kym-Did you see what I posted at the end of the old thread about the tax rebates? I wanted to make sure since you were inquiring! Adorable pics of your DD!

Katie-I already told you on LJ but great pics of Maddy:).

Silentbunny-What a cutie! I felt the same way with DS sitting. If I would have tried sooner I think he would have done it sooner!

DS has been super fussy the last few days. I keep thinking it is b/c he is teething but nothing has come through. I do think he seems longer though than he did a few days ago so maybe we are going through a growth spurt. We are cloth diapering about 75% of the time now and it is going good!! I am very happy with the decision so far. I am glad we decided too.

You and everyone else who is cd'ing seem very brave to me. Are you using AIO's? Have you had any leaking? Before I got pg I thought I would cd, but then quickly realized that there were too many things that I wanted to do and one of them had to go. Using disposables seemed much easier to me.

CDing - I use 'em. Used 'em with DS too. Yeah, I have some leaks, but I have leaks sometimes with disposables too (when I use them). I really don't think they add too much to my slate of things to do. I just throw them in the washing machine every other night, then DH puts them in the dryer before he goes to bed. The next day, I fold them while I watch The Young and the Restless. :D

I am currently using a variety. The momma that sent them to me sent me fitteds, an aio and two ai2's and a cover. I honestly like all of them. I like fitteds for home. And I like the others for when we are out and about. I really like using them. It is one more load of laundry and even on days I don't do other laundry I do those. I keep thinking about money I am saving and it makes me like it more:D. We all know you love to save money:p. And yeah I have had leaking. But I did in sposies. I seem to be able to figure out how to control my leaking in cloth though. Such as need an insert or make snaps tighter, etc. In sposies I was just stuck leaking! I can't wait to get more!!!

And a pic for you...(to show total cuteness!)--sorry it is so big...I resized it but it won't change...

The CDs actually help me stay on top of things. Now I actually have to take thing out of the dryer at least every two days so that I can dry diapers. :D

Annie that is one cute tush! That's what I love about cd's, they are so darn cute!

Last night Maddy started doing what one of my jb's calls yoga poses. She pushed up with her arms and was on her tip toes instead of her knees. Then she got scared and started wimpering. It was pretty cool though.

Those feeding solids, how many times a day are you feeding them, what are you or have you fed them and what time a day are you feeding them?

I started Benjamin out on rice cereal before his morning nap about a week ago. Today we tried bananas but switched up his feeding time. I find that he is just too cranky and tired in the morning for feeding. After his nap is much better.

What are you doing to enhance them developmentally? Like what games, etc...
I read Benjamin stories, play with him with his toys, show him how to play with toys, teach him how to grab things, sing to him, etc...

Also, B has not rolled over OR sat up by himself yet! Anyone else a "late bloomer"? The ped said his daughter didnt roll over until 8 months old! I mean, I'm not worried. I just wish he'd do it so we can get passed this milestone! LOL

Rolling My DS hasn't rolled yet (was six mos yesterday), but he gets soooo close . He's was 18 lbs 9 oz at his 4 mos WBV, so I think his size is part of the reason for his inability to get over the hump. On the other hand, he sits relatively well because his big booty (he's in size 5 Pampers!) acts as an anchor. I was fairly obsessed with the rolling for awhile, but I've let it go (most of the time).

I feed Maddy solids once a day, usually around 3 or 4pm. She's had.. squash, carrots, green beans, peas, peaches, pears, applesauce, bananas, rice cereal and oatmeal. We didn't do much cereal, I pretty much started with veggies.

Katie are you still making her food? How had that been?

Katie&Micah
01-30-2008, 03:57 PM
Yay Benjamin!

Yep, I'm still making her food. I buy the Gerber ones first to make sure she can tolerate them before I spend the time making a big batch of food. So far I've only done peaches, green beans and apples. Tonight I'm doing pears. I bought 20 pears last week and I've just been waiting for them to ripen so I can do them. It's incredibly easy, I really recommend doing it. Even if you don't save money (some of the things are kind of expensive out of season) doing it yourself, you get to feel good about giving your LO fresh food w/o preservatives and fake crap added. This summer when more things are in season I'm sure I'll save a ton over the price of commercial baby food.

Nathaniel rolled over twice yesterday. He has been doing it "accidentally" tha lst few weeks but last night he was reaching for a toy and kept reaching and reaching until he finally pushed with is feet and rolled right over. then after getting teether, rolled back on his back and played! makes want to cry!

Still having teething pain, he was so cranky this morning...

solids- tried mashed canned peas list night (like 4 of them) no go. he spit them right out. guess I have a milk lover on my hands! ;)

cough- Nathaniel is getting his second cough. I hope he doesn't get what he brother is just getting over. (high fever, runny nose, bad wet cough) two sleepless nights for mama and dada...

Kristianna loves her cereal! I mix oatmeal and barley together with BM and she gobbles it up. She has also had apples, pears, peaches, bananas, green beans, squash, carrots and sweet potatos. Her favorite by far is carrots but she has readily eaten everything that we have offered her so far. She wasn't real wild on the green beans, but she ate them. (really can't blame her, they looked nasty and I was wishing for some of Katie&Micah's homemade green beans for her instead!)

Those feeding solids, how many times a day are you feeding them, what are you or have you fed them and what time a day are you feeding them?
Austin has been on solids for about a month now. We followed her cues and did start her early but she was definatly ready. She eats 3 meals a day.
1- around 9:30 after her morning nursing session. Either barely or oatmeal cereal and then a fruit. (I've come to learn she doesn't like her cereals and fruits mixed together!)
2- around 1pm. A veg. although if we're out we skip lunch sometimes. She really doesn't seem to mind, but when she does have it she *loves* it!
3- around 6:30pm. Rice cereal and then sometimes a little fruit too (like 1 tpsp).

I'm also making all my own babyfood except I don't plan on making all the meats, I may do some once in a while, or things like berries (too expensive right now) but other than that, it's all homemade (and organic if possible). I agree with Katie, it really is super easy!

I think someone else posted about there LO doing this but I can't find it. Anyway Austin is also digging her toes into the rug with on her hands and her bum way in the air! Too funny:) She also gets up on all fours very easily now, so I don't think it will be long till she's really crawling! Better get doing some more babyproofing! Yikes!

Those feeding solids, how many times a day are you feeding them, what are you or have you fed them and what time a day are you feeding them?
We are not very consistent with feeding solids. DD is still not on a great time schedule so we follow her cues for eating and naps. Anyways she usually eats a fruit or veggie during the morning then another one around dinnertime. She doesn't seem to not like anything too much. We are planning on introducing meats sooon and she will have them around lunchtime.
She has tried apples, bananas, pears, oranges, grapefruit (my DH gave her the juice from oranges and grapefruit and she loved them so he gave her a piece in mesh feeder), green beans, korean pears, zucchini squash, peas, carrots, and avocado. She also had baby oatmeal and rice cereal. She loves homemade carrots and didn't seem to like gerber pears too much. Also she had a bad reaction to rice cereal.
When are you planning to introduce a (sippy) cup to LO? Or if you have then when did you do so? DD drank water from hers today but when I put her milk in she refused it.

Thanks for starting the new thread!

Sorry haven't been around much, nothing else other than being busy. And by the time I catch up here and LJ, I never have time to post.

I just wanted to post something you might find interesting, since everyone is posting stats for the 6 month wbv's.

There is a new guy at work, and him and his wife have a DS that is 4 days younger than DD (he was born on 14 Aug). He proceeds to tell me that their DS eats 2 jars (min) of baby food a day in addition to his formula and wakes them up at 3:30 am and has to have 8 oz of formula at that time. I was shocked, thinking that was alot of solids (or maybe that's just me), and then he told me the baby's size. 31 in and 26 lbs (those were the stats at the 4 month wbv). I thought we had a tall, skinny, off the charts baby until he told me that!

solids~ Apparently my mom now has DD in a routine for feedings. I'm not complaining, but she forgot to tell me when she left Thrusday night! DD has to have a few tbs of some solids for the three main meals along with her bottle/nursing. Unfortunately I didn't know she was in such a routine, and it made bedtime rough last night. Apparently when I just nursed her when she woke up in the morning, that threw her off. And she really wanted her third round of solids before her night bottle. She seems to like most things that we give her, the only one that took multiple tries until she started to like it was carrots. Applesauce mixed with cereal is her favorite along with sweet potatoes. I think we might try peas this week.

sippy cup~ We were actually talking about this last night. I might try it this week. DD attempted again last night to drink out of DH's glass. Its quite hilarious since she grabs it in the middle with both hands and brings the rim to her mouth and then raises the glass (although we really had to intervene since DH had beer in the glass this time and not water ). She's been holding the bottle on her own some too, so we think she might be wanting to try that.

cloth diapering~ We've been doing it at home and use disposables when we go out, and have the AIO. The AIO was the only way I could convince DH to try it. For us it has worked out great, and mom doesn't mind doing it since she CD'd with me. It is really nice since DD is extremely sensitive to dirty diapers and wants them changed if they are the tiniest amount wet. I'm just hoping that transfers to easy toilet training.

We've been having a slightly rough time with the teething. Oh well, she looks so darn cute with the two she has its worth it. :p She's been sitting up a bunch, until she realized she could stand up on her own, leaning against the couch. So now she wants nothing to do with being on her mat or sitting, she wants to be standing. And the other night when DH came home it was funny. I was supporting her under the arms, becuase she had been trying to take a few steps. When he walked in the door, her legs just started going up and down like she was trying to run to him. She's rolled both ways, but hates rolling to her stomache and avoids it becuase she just hate being on her tummy.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

p&p I've started giving DS a Nuby with water in it the last few days. He loves to chew on it and has even started swallowing the water that comes out of it. I cant believe how HUGE that baby is! Seems pretty unhealthy to me. Also, my DS does the same thing with our glasses and beer bottles. LOL Last week Ben put his beer bottle on the table and DS was sitting on his lap. He leaned over really fast and grabbed the bottle with both hands and put it in his mouth. LOL Luckily it was empty but man was he fast! So now he tris to do it everytime. Ive also let him sip out of my cup before too (with water in it). Congrats on your DD standing! Thats awesome! My DS wont even sit let alone stand  He is lazy.

Question about cereal/oatmeal/barley DS has tried rice cereal and oatmeal so far. He hates them both. Once he gets some in his mouth he gets this awful look on his face and refuses to open up for more. Can I just skip the grains or is it a nessecity?

karlatta
02-02-2008, 03:36 PM
Jess - I'd just skip them, or try again later. DS never took any of the baby cereals and he's fine. DD just started taking rice cereal this week. If you want, you can try mixing them with something Benjamin likes to see if he'll take it that way. Remember, at this point, our kids should still be getting the majority of their nutrition from breastmilk/formula, so if they refuse a particular food (cereals, green beans, whatever), it's okay. They're still getting everything they need.

karlatta
02-02-2008, 03:39 PM
P&P - My DD also refuses to sit and only stands. She's gotten really good. I can hold just onto one hand and she's fine. She also stands at the coffee table a lot - she's starting to try to take some steps to cruise, but she always tries to walk forward, right into the table. She "walks" with me holding her hands a lot - I think it's the influence of having a big brother in the house. She wants to do all the cool stuff he's doing.

Also she had a bad reaction to rice cereal.

What happened? Liam was super-gassy and pissed off when he was eating rice cereal (well, he liked eating it, but I don't think it liked him) so I stopped and he's been fine with carrots and breastmilk. I didn't think rice would be an allergen, but maybe it is?

Asha

solids - haven't introduced any solids yet.

sippy cup - we don't even use a bottle bc dd refused. she loves to take sips of water from my glass, and she actually gets most of it down rather than dribble it out. i want to introduce a sippy cup pretty soon bc i would like to go out at times and not worry about dd needing her breastmilk.

Also, B has not rolled over OR sat up by himself yet! Anyone else a "late bloomer"? The ped said his daughter didnt roll over until 8 months old! I mean, I'm not worried. I just wish he'd do it so we can get passed this milestone! LOL
my dd hasn't rolled over much. she has only rolled over from back to stomach. she can sit up unsupported in a slouchy sort of way, though. i also heard that babies that grow up in cultures where they are in slings a lot don't really learn to roll over and go straight to walking since they are upright a lot. my dd has been held most of the time, so i think that may have something to do with her not rolling over much.

Silentbunny - Lilli wqould eat the rice cereal without a problem (loved it in fact) About about 1/2 hour later she would have horrible diarrhea anbd it left her with the worst diaper rash that I have ever seen. Someone on here siad it might have been if the cereal had soy in it and it was the second ingredient so I am guessing she will have problems with soy right now.
Asha - I am going to add you today. See you on LJ!
Standing and sitting - It has begun to be very hard to get DD to lay down to diaperchange.

You can certainly skip the cereal. Maddy only had it twice before we moved on to fruits and veggies.

Like usual, things seem to change very quickly with Madeline. This weekend she got VERY into solids. She normally eats about 1/2 a container of stage 1 per day. Saturday we went to a baby shower where her cousin who is 1 month older ate 2 containers of stage 2's in front of her. It must have inspired her because yesterday she ate 2 WHOLE containers of stage 1 baby food! So far today she's already had a whole container of stage 1!! I'm glad to see she's getting into it more, but at the same time it's sad. Before it wasn't a big deal if we skipped a day w/o solids, now I think they are here to stay. A big plus was that last night she only nursed twice. She never eats less than 3 or 4 times a night. Frequently it's more like 5 times.

yeah, i consider it a good nights sleep if she only nurses 2 or 3 times. unfortunately, for the last two nights dd has woken up around 3p.m. and can't be soothed to sleep and ends up crying for close to an hour. i can handle it if she goes back to sleep after nursing, but when she doesn't it is very trying.

Asha
02-05-2008, 07:24 AM
katie&micah - thanks - i don't take it in a bad way. i say all the time she is high needs. my mom always jokes its a good thing she's really cute. :D she has actually gotten a lot easier as she has gotten older, and thankfully she is starting to sleep on her own more (meaning she is off my chest and next to me on the bed). she got up a lot last night but i think its bc she was having a good old time mastering her rolling over. at 3 a.m. i woke up to her smiling face right next to my face, and it just melted my heart. also, she is a really easy baby when we take her out (once she is out of the car). she just loves seeing new things. we went for a hike the other day and she just stared at the water in the creek for close to half an hour. we are also able to go out to eat with her bc of this. my mom said it was impossible to go to restaurants with my siblings and me. also, i am reading a bio on teddy roosevelt and it said he was not an easy baby and he cried all the time, so maybe i have future president on my hands. lol!! so yeah, she is a ton of work, but there are a lot of good times with her, and i do love being a mother to her all of the time.

Asha, I LOVE that picture! What a great idea to document something like that! And what adorable little baby feet she has! :) I'm glad your DD is doing better now, I remember at the beginning how frustrated and overwhelmed I was with mine and how it made me feel better knowing I wasn't the only one with a high needs baby. :) For a sippy cup, we are using a Nuby that has the straw. Believe it or not, DD mastered drinking out of a straw pretty quickly and prefers it over her sippys that have the regular spout. Maybe you would give that a try with your DD.

bensgirl If Benjamin isn't interested in the cereal, I'd just move onto other stuff like fruits and veggies. But also don't forget that you should continue offering foods that your baby rejects multiple times because their tastes change so quickly. Give it a week or two and try again. And he gets 99% of his nutrition through your milk, so its not a big deal either way.

Katie&Micah Wow, two whole containers in one day? DD usually eats about one container total over two separate offerings of solids per day. And I have to say that your post and Asha's about middle of the night feedings was a big wake-up call to me. I was feeling very sorry for myself this morning over my life revolving around my pumping schedule. But I can count the number of times DD has needed a middle of the night feeding on one hand since she was about two weeks old. If I had to get up multiple times to feed her PLUS get up at the crack of dawn to pump, I would lose my mind. :o

Those offering solids to their babies, what stage are you on? I keep looking at the Stage 2 ones, but they seem so big. But the flavors are so much more varied than the limited Stage Ones. What age do you switch to the next stage?

DD had her 6 month visit today.

16 pounds, 6 ounces
26.5 inches long

She also has an ear infection (boo!), so she's starting antibiotics for that. The ped also said to go ahead and start giving DD a sippy cup. She's super interested in them (since DS still uses them, and she wants to do EVERYTHING he does), and the ped said the earlier we get her off the bottle, the better.

Those offering solids to their babies, what stage are you on?
I make all my own food, but the consistency of what I'm making these days is about Stage 2.

He's a real strapping lad! He took his shots so well (he even had to get one in the arm!!!) with a little bit of squealing and no crying. He's zonked out now.

He also slept from 8pm to 5am last night!!!! Longest ever!!! I checked on him twice and had to pump in the middle of the night. It was amazing. DH has been away the past few days and I'm wondering if he's part of the sleep problem. He gets home late, so only sees Fin for a few minutes before bed (if at all). I think Fin gets excited and wants to hang out with him AND DH is super quick to get him at the tiniest fuss b/c he wants to see him. Uh oh - I may have to set some unpleasant ground rules.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been around for so long. Things have been a little nutty.

Kieran isn't rolling over yet, sorta close, but he doesn't seem too interested in it. He is sitting on his own incredibly well.

He is 19lbs and 28ish inches. Pretty big boy.

Here are a couple of his six month photos:

He is such a happy baby. I couldn't ask for a better boy.

He's been eating solids, but I think we are going to limit him to only prunes now cause he's getting pretty constipated.

That's about it. I'll try to be around more and keep up with everyone.

BrownEyedGirl I'm so glad you posted, I was just thinking about you and Kieran! It certainly sounds (and looks!) like he is thriving. I trust he has recovered from his surgery with no ill effects? Is everything okay with him now? Seeing his scar made me so sad that such a little baby would have to go through something like that, but at the same time, I'm sure every time that you see it that you are grateful all over again for your beautiful baby. He is gorgeous! :D

Thanks, I think he's pretty awesome! Everything is going well. As far as we can tell the surgery was a complete success. He's a little behind developmentally (not rolling over, leg strength is lacking a bit) but as time passes he will catch up. We have another echo at the end of the month, so we will get a better idea as to how the surgery went and if he is adapting okay. Hopefully he won't have to have another surgery for a few years.

Kieran has three teeth now!! He just got a third bottom tooth in today. That's my boy going against the grain. Since I'm still nursing, I told him he can wait as long as he wants for the top teeth!

I stayed home sick today (stomach issues), I get a call tonight from my mil asking if I was giving her a granddaughter now or if there was any news I wanted to share. Apparently someone can't get sick without being pregnant.

He seemed to bite harder when I pulled him in close, so now I just take him off, so he knows if he bites, he's done. It does hurt like heck, though, doesn't it?

ceaser - DS1 bite me three times I think. I think every time was when he was SUPER hungry and waiting for letdown. I screamed NO (probably louder than I wanted to!) and took him off the breast. He got the idea. Yes, he cried and freaked out (from me yelling, but it hurt like HECK!) If she keeps doing it, you have to be persistent! I will say, that after my DS started biting, it was really hard to have him latch on... it probably too a good month for me not to cringe!

This is pretty much my story as well. It's been quite awhile since ds has bit me (knock on wood) so I think he learned his lesson. Which is quite impressive since he was only 5 months old. Yet another indicator that he is super intelligent :D :p ;)

Good luck.

Thanks for the tips girls! I think we have the issue under control. She tried a couple times this morning and I pulled her close to the breast like kellymom.com suggests and she didn't bite tonight during her feedings at all.
I was a little worried this morning because she didn't eat until 10:30am today, so I thought we were headed to a breastfeeding strike, but that doesn't seem to be an issue now!
Yay!
Thanks again! And yes, it REALLY does hurt! Those things are like little razor blades!

9 Months Stats:
12 Months Stats:

Solids: Winona eats cereal and prunes for breakfast, 2 food cubes (I make my own) for lunch, and is up to 3 cubes for supper. She'd take solids over BM any day

Rolling - ugh! Winona is a ROLLER! Everywhere! Good thing we already have a gate up for DS. She will use her arms and spin her body around while she's on her tummy to line herself up with where she wants to go, and then rolls all the way across the room to get what she wants. She's gonna be a trouble maker, I think. :p I think her rolling and the need to get where she wants comes from having an older brother that runs circles around her. She's starting to push up a little on her hands and knees...but DS did that from about 7 mo - and it took a whole 'nother month to crawl. It sure is hard to believe the kiddos will be crawling in the next few months! I don't think my DS is ready for that (and his little sister getting into his stuff!)

BrownEyedGirl - Win has a very similar scar (hers is a little more in line with her armpit), and a similar chest tube scar. :o I'm guessing as the LOs get older, you'll barely be able to tell?

BitingI think every time was when he was SUPER hungry and waiting for letdown. This is when DD does this too...and she sucks and pulls (like THAT is gonna help me relax?! ;) )

Yay Ben and Adrian for sitting on thier own!!

I'm so tired today, but really shouldn't be since Austin has slept right from 7:30pm to 8 or 8:30am. I think it's all this snow we are getting! (that is making me tired/not her sleep all night)

Austin has figured out now how to get into crawling position from sitting, so she's excited about that! I used to be able to just sit her on the floor, with her toys and she wouldn't go anywhere, because she didn't know how...but now it's a different story!

Okay, I'm a little irritated. I went out and bought that new organic yogurt that I've seen advertised. Its called YoBaby and is an organic, whole-milk yogurt made by Stonyfield Farms. Its advertised as being fine for babies from six months up. I was all excited to give DD some, until I looked at the carton when I got home only to find "consult your pediatrician before giving your child this product". My sister seems to think it would be fine to go ahead and give it to her, but I'm anal and when something tells me to ask my pediatrician first, I always do so. :o Has anyone else tried to give this stuff to their baby yet?

Sorry I am so behind - I have been trying to read along, but need to catch up!

I'm going to have to look up Seth's stats and officially post them - he's a little peanut though. 13lbs12oz  and 26.5 inches at his 6 mo appt! 3% for weight, 25-50% for height, head circumference was 10-25%, I think.

Of course, he had just gotten over an ear infection, a cold and was moving all over the place - I was / am hoping that attributed to the slow gain (less than a pound since his 4 mo appt).

He moves ALL over the place though. I don't know if what he does is officially considered crawling or creeping (or army crawling) but he can get across the room pretty easily if he wants - we need to babyproof! He's been sitting up by himself pretty well since around the beginning of January too - but he hasn't yet figured out how to get himself into a sitting up position.

He also loves paper (I think someone else posted about that) - he goes after it whenever he can!

Those giving pre-made food to their LO's, are you still one Stage One? I am dying to try some of the Stage 2's, but DH doesn't think she's ready yet.

We pretty much went straight to stage 2 (beech nut). As far as I could tell, they are the same as stage 1's, except bigger - so I just give him half a stage 2 jar instead (when he'll eat it). So far, we're just doing oatmeal (pretty thick and lumpy) and carrots, but we'll be introducing more vegetables soon.

Also, my doc told me once we got him on all of the fruits and veggies, we could do yogurt - but I think we have a ways to go - so I'm thinking you could probably do Yo Baby - but no harm in asking your ped.

Sorry I'm missing more responses - got to make myself work - but I will try and catch up and be better about posting.

Stay warm everyone - it's frigid here today!

We were at the ped's last week and the doctor suggested giving DD a little bit of YoBaby with her antibiotics to help keep her from getting diarrhea. I think the warning on the container is probably more of a CYA on the company's part than anything else. I never checked with my ped before giving DS YoBaby, and he is obviously fine.

ETA: The ped said a few spoonfuls was fine - not the whole container. Quite a difference.

You'll know right away if she's ready. If it's to thick for her, her gag reflex will kick in. If I make dd food to thick, I know it. At first I thought she was cholking but then I learned it was just her gag reflex.

That makes so much sense now. I tried giving Kieran some avocado that I just mashed up and he scared the living daylights out of me. I thought he was choking on the tiny bit I gave him. Now I'm going to assume that it was just too thick (which it was pretty thick) Shame on me.

YoBaby - gave this to DS (the strawberry kind) at 9mo...he immediately broke out in hives and got swollen and we had to take him to th dr. We assumed it was the strawberries at the time - it ended up being the dairy in it that he's allergic to. I'd listen to your ped. We are waiting until at least 9mo. because the allergy runs in the family, and we'll probably do a skin test first (touch a little on her cheek and see if she breaks out in hives).

Jimmysgirl- I believe whole foods sells a really really good yogurt without sugar. I want to say it was BrownCow or something... not sure. What I ALWAYS did was buy plain yogurt and then I put my own mashed up fruit in it. DS still eats yogurt that that today. And in the winter, I would buy a bag of frozen mixed berries. When they thaw there is a lot of juice, so when he was little I just gave him the juice in his yogurt. (I ate the berries in my yogurt with granola! YUMMY!!!)

I'm so excited! Madeline's first tooth is coming in. She's been really fussy this week, but I attributed it to the fact that we were out of town for 10 days. Tonight I saw that her top left tooth is coming in! I can feel something sharp poking through already, so I suppose it's been coming in for at least a few days.

Has anyone else had a baby with a tooth on top come in first? I thought it was usually the bottom two first.

Has anyone else had a baby with a tooth on top come in first? I thought it was usually the bottom two first.

Congrats on the tooth. I've heard of either the top two or the bottom two coming in. I think its just more common with the bottom. The rest of the order is what has me confused. DH noticed the other day that it looks her bottom two "fangs" (his words not mine) are coming in. And her top two incisors haven't come in yet. So according to the book she's out of order. Oh well, her WBV is Friday so we'll see if the doc thinks its anything to worry about.

And sorry I'm not around much. Work is just super busy and traveling. Ugh. We might be moving, not sure, and I might go over to being a sahm, again not sure. So yeah, there are a ton of things in the air right now. On top of that, DD weaned herself off of nursing, but my body hasn't shut off completely yet. And with working so much, its been a rough week. I took this much better than what I thought I would.

Hope everyone is having a good week and surviving this ice!

Sorry I am not around all that much I try to read along tho!

Garrett is doing fantastic! I was alittle worried about him not rolling but that seems to be resolved since he now rolls when he feels like it. He is also sitting unassisted for a few minutes at a time and now that he can do that he doesn't want to be on his back! This morning I found him sleeping on his tummy! He has a thing for my hair! I really need to get it cut! Or he will pull me bald! :D

Still no teeth here. I think he is working on some but I don't see anything in there yet.

He has been waking up in the middle of the night 2,3 or 4 times a night and after having a solids nights sleep for a couple of weeks this was hard! But I think its his teeth so hopefully this will pass soon!

jimmysgirl - no, wegmans doesn't carry it (but then again, I haven't been to a wegmans in MONTHs.... ohhhhh how I miss wegmans subs, but that is a different story) I would check out their Organic section. I only bought the Whole Foods stuff until DS was maybe 14 months old... then I just bought wegmans brand yogurt. I know Wegmans sells YoBaby, which you have already ruled out (I don't get why they market that for babes when it has soooo much sugar!! You can just get any old yogurt!) Do you have Trader Joes? I think their yogurt had little or no sugar either. I can't remember off the top of my head!

So DS has 2 ingrown toenails! WHAT IS UP WITH THAT? He doesn't even wear any shoes. I think it is cause he is chubby. The doctor was a little amazed that both his big toes were affected. Not much I can do about it. Hopefully they will get better over time.

He is also trying to stand/pull up on his own. I am SO NOT encouraging that!!! I am not ready for two mobile children! LOL

Hope everyone has a great V-day tomorrow!

I am bummed that DD still doesn't have any teeth! (I'm actually really surprised, because I got my first tooth at 3 months and by the time I was DD's age, I had 7 teeth.)

DD is completely mobile. It is so exciting (and terrifying!). She's still pretty slow, thank goodness, but she gets around with the best of them. Most of the time she does an army crawl, but every once in a while she'll get up on her hands and knees and crawl a step or two. I'm feeling a little nervous about parenting two kids who don't stay where you put them!

good luck, but you'll handle it just fine like you've done everything else. i'm worried for when dd gets more mobile bc my work will be that much harder. mil says all three of her children walked at 10 mos and she's convinced our dd will do the same. its so selfish of me but i hope she walks a little later than that.

Winona got her first tooth today! Finally after 3 nights of being up and being fussy during the day. The other (bottom) tooth is almost in, too.

I actually can't wait for DD to be more mobile...like I said earlier, she is rolling everywhere, but I can't wait for her to crawl. DS is running circles around her and she cannot STAND IT! She is so incredibly frustrated (and lets us know it by yelling) that she can't get to where she wants to go, it'll be nice when she can keep up a little with him. :p

I'm starting to get a little worried by all of the mommies whose little ones are crawling/cruising. DD sits up on her own for extended periods, and can roll, but she isn't mobile at all as far as crawling goes. Should I be concerned?

Teeth- DD is cutting her bottom two at the moment. Is anyone here brushing their LO's gums/teeth? We started using a baby brush and baby paste in the morning and evenings about three weeks ago or so.

And another question:

Whose LO's are using a sippy cup regularly? How are they doing with it? What are they drinking out of it? We trained DD to use one of the Nuby straw cups about a month ago. She drinks water out of it regularly and with ease. I refuse to give her juice, no need to anyway and its too much sugar. We started out with one of the Nuby cups with the spout, but she hated it because it flowed so fast that she choked on it. She does great with the straw after she practiced with it for awhile.

Cindy - so cute!

Kym - I don't think you have anything to worry about - some kids never even crawl! But I think it's still early to be crawling anyway. Seth is army crawling but his physical therapist (for torticollis) said it's pretty early that he's doing so. (so for all of us with crawlers at 6 months, that's on the early side). In his case, it probably helps that he is "petite" as she put it - in other words, he's tiny ;) Just under 14 lbs at 6 months, so he's pretty strong - maybe b/c he doesn't have too much to move, *lol*

asha - I hear you on the crawling. I am so not ready for S to be all over the place the way he is - I'm a little afraid of him starting to walk early to, lol - but then I think maybe he will just be content with crawling? (which we already need to do some serious babyproofing for)

We're trying to teach S to use the sippy cup - I have both the Nuby straw type, really soft, flexible spout, and soft spout cups - how did you teach DC what to do?

Kym - how did you get K to use the straw?

Ellyn - yay for a first tooth!

No teeth here yet, and I can't say that bothers me ;) (so karlatta - I'm the opposite of you I guess - I just love his little toothless grin so much!)
S is already killing my nips when he nurses - I'm afraid for what teeth will bring (maybe he's biting down b/c he's teething? I really can't tell what he's doing - just that it hurts)

I'm home with S today - he's got brochiolitis (probably due to RSV) and double ear infections :( His fever seems to have broken and he seems to be feeling better so I'm trying to see if he will take a nap - ha!

I wouldn't worry. You know how differently babies develop. Remember how Kristianna was holding her head up MONTHS before the other babies?

Maddy shows absolutely no interest in crawling. I'm not worried about it. I'm sure she'll walk before she crawls.

Whose LO's are using a sippy cup regularly? How are they doing with it? What are they drinking out of it?
I've been trying to get Maddy to drink out of one, but she's having none of it. She's even refusing bottles at this point. I'm trying to relax about it, because I'm sure she'll take one eventually, but it's hard.

Robyn I think we had success with the sippy cup because Kristianna has been obsessed with DH and I drinking for months. She watches us like a hawk whenever we drink from a cup, glass, water bottle, etc. And she's been grabbing for them while we drink for awhile too. Also, remember that she takes a bottle, so I think the sucking mechanism there is somewhat similar to how a straw works. She didn't get it the first couple tries, but she got the hang of it within the first day or two. Now she reaches for her sippy when she sees it coming and happily sucks down water. Sometimes she drinks too quickly and ends up coughing for a bit, but all in all, its been a success. I'm sorry to hear Seth is sick, hope he feels better soon. :(

Katie You are right, I guess I just get myself worked up when I hear about babies doing stuff that she isn't. Stupid, I know. :o Keep trying with the bottles, Maddie will give in eventually.

Kym - I just wanted to echo what other said about the not crawling. Don't worry about it at all! My DS didn't crawl until 10 months, and it was HARD reading about all the other babies crawling around. He just needed to do it on his own time. And I am CONVINCED that the only reason DD is as mobile as she is is that she has this really awesome older brother that she learns from.

Asha
02-14-2008, 07:26 PM
jimmysgirl - my dd isn't crawling or creeping either. we both have tall babies and i've heard smaller babies have an easier time making some of the gross motor skill milestones. i am thinking dd will probably learn how to walk and skip crawling. some babies never learn to crawl.

brushing - i've been "brushing" dd's gums since the beginning. i just wipe them with my clean fingers. i need to soon start rubbing her teeth with wet gauze bc we give her vits and i've hear the vits can stain their teeth if you don't wipe the teeth off.

sippy cup - not yet, but she can drink out of a regular cup if we hold it for her.

****
dd's six months today!! she can now sit unsupported and play at the same time. she has two teeth that are popping out of her gums. poor baby - they are really slow at coming completely out. she loves grabbing my face and hair. she ate solids (sweet potatoes) for the first time today like a champ. she hardly spit any of it out. she had about ten bites before she turned her head away. it was fun to see daddy finally able to feed her. she reaches to be held by me all the time. its really sweet. i love her.

Cindy - ditto karlatta. Seth has actually been creeping around / up on all fours since early January. He can get around prety quickly now, but it's still just a creep / army crawl. We can't leave him alone, but as long as we keep an eye on him, we're ok. (and he can cross the room pretty well, but again, we just keep an eye on him / don't leave him alone.)

twainny - yay for eating solids!

little cindy - adrian is so strong.

***
you know they always say that poops are much worse after eating solids, but i never imagined how FOUL they really could be. i started using my diaper genie again bc the smell is just NASTY. i am ready for her to be potty trained bc i don't want to deal with those day after day. dh hasn't got a taste of those diapers yet, and he already complains about having to change her diaper. i think it will be impossible for me to get him to change her diapers after he gets a whiff of a poopy diaper.

ok, now that dd is able to get off her play mat, i am worried about how dirty the floors are. the floors are vacuumed and such, but they really can't be all that clean with us walking on them daily and a cat. dd loves rubbing her fingers in the carpet. do you guys just not worry about your lo's rolling/crawling around on the floors? do you do anything special to keep your lo's from getting too many germs from the floor? another thing - does anyone have tiled floors? we have all tile on the first floor, and i keep worrying for when dd gets more mobile and she might fall on the hard tile. do you section off areas and put rugs down and closely monitor your child when they are on the hard surfaces?

we got this play book published by gymboree. its great bc it has lots of different ideas for how to play with your child. one idea i really like is taking used spice bottles and filling them with different substances like rice, dried beans, etc. they say to either glue or duck tape the top on and watch the child while s/he plays with them bc of the small pieces inside. i just worry that dd will be able to somehow manage to still get the top off and will choke on a piece, but am i just being overly worried? after all, i will always supervise her while playing with those spice rattles.

i don't know why i am acting like such a nervous nelly lately, but i keep thinking of all these what if's.

Floors - I don't overly worry about my floors. I vacuum every day and mop the hard floors 2-3 times a week and figure that's good enough. (I would probably do it less if I didn't have two dogs that drag in all sorts of mess and leave a ton of dog hair lying around.) As long as there's nothing on the floor that could kill DD, I figure we're good. Also, we have wood and tile downstairs and I've never had a problem with either kid falling and hurting themselves seriously. Yeah, they've fallen and gotten hurt and cried, but nothing major. I figure kids need to fall and stuff, and I'd rather that happen in my home than somewhere else.

6 Months Stats: (1/18) 15lbs and 14.8 oz 27 inches

Hi Everyone, Sorry I have not been around much, my work computer pretty much will not let me on to post and we are getting a new system that will be monitoring where I visit so I won't be able to read along too much there soon :(
Everyone's LO's are growing so fast.
Eating solids, stages: I finally made some purrees last night, I am sick of DD only eating about 1/2 of the jar before I have to toss it. I am guessing she is on stage 3. We have gone through most of the fruits and veggies and started to give her table foods too. So far some black beans, chicken, tortillas, breads, and of course, fruits and veggies that are soft enough to mash. LO is not picky and will try anything. She finally was able to pick up one of her puffy crackers on her own and get it into her mouth last night, before she was opening her mouth like a bird.
Sippy cup Not regularly.
Floors Asha I feel the same way. I hate when Lilli puts her face onto our carpets and am afraid that she will nose dive onto the hard surfaces.
Crawling - Somewhat, Dd has gotten on to all fours and can move backwards She only has moved forward like twice.
Teeth - DD finally got the bottom tooth this past week and the second bottom tooth is starting to come in also.
Standing - DD stood up by herself, twice without holding on for a few seconds and constantly while holding onto something.
Brushing teeth - We use a wet washcloth to wash her mouth in the morning. We just started to use a soft toothbrush in the evening before she goes to sleep yesterday. We aren't using toothpaste yet.
This past week she has gotten her first tooth, fed herself, started to crawl, been able to stand on her own, clapped her hands so she has been a horrible sleeper and I cannot really pinpoint why? A little bit of everything!
Also when DD was taking a bath last week she went head first after a toy. I have a little swimmer because she didn't even cry and kept on slashing.

Kieran loves to put his face in the water. We have a blow up duck in the tub that he sits in and I have the water running by his back. The other day I turned him around to see the water running and he was grabbing at it and then decided to put his head in the water. Now he loves putting his head under the running water. It is really cute!

DD put herself in a sitting position from her tummy today. She's been working on it for a while now, but usually got stuck halfway. :) And then, about 30 minutes later, she pulled herself to stand. Such a big girl! I can't believe that six months ago she was just a wee little newborn. Gah! How do they grow so fast? I don't remember it being this fast with DS.

Oh, and Big Brother is LOVING that his sister is more mobile. Only problem is that now that he sees her in a vertical position on a more regular basis, he seems to think that she should be able to walk. If she's standing, he grabs her and tries to make her walk next to him, holding his hand (like I often walk with him). I'll let you guys imagine how well that works out. :D

Wow...crawlers and standers!!! It is hard to believe they were so tiny 6 mo ago!

Like I said before...I can't wait for DD to be more mobile. She is army crawling and rolling a lot. I bet DS will be loving it too because he'll be able to play with her more

I can see DS doing that too! :D

Foods: When are you starting finger foods? I can't remember when I started the puffs with DS. I remember that's what I gave him first (and I think I even broke them in half).

do you guys just not worry about your lo's rolling/crawling around on the floors?
We have hickory hard wood floors throughout most of our upstairs (where we are most of the time). We don't really worry about it I guess. DS hit his head quite a few times when he was DD's age and I guess he just got used to it. :o  As far as cleanliness, ours is definitely not the cleanest, but we also do not have pets, (does having a 2.5 yo boy count?) So no, we just make sure DS doesn't eat walking around (we used to let him eat pretzels or fruit snacks in the living room, but now we're too afraid he'll drop one and she'll find it)

littlecindy, your son is so cute.
karlatta, i am so impressed you mop your floors so regularly! i am ashamed to say i only do mine once a week. DH and i joke that once DS starts crawling, he can buff it for us :o is that terrible?

hi to everyone else. as usual it's forever since my last update.

sippy cup - we bought one for him ("the safe sippy"), but it's quite difficult to actually suck any water out of it. DS loves drinking out of my water glass though, and i've noticed he likes clamping his little gums down on the edge of the glass.

solids - DS turns 6 months this coming weekend. we bought our highchair (the chicco polly in green) and have tried a little food (rice cereal and pureed carrots) with him just for fun but he doesn't seem that interested. i know it's only a matter of time, as he is a hungry little fella.

teething - the first tooth popped out on feb 8th and the second on saturday, the 17th: both bottom teeth. he's definitely working on more now and seems to be in more pain than with the first two.

getting mobile - DS is still just an expert roller, but i see him sometimes trying to get his little butt in the air when he's on the ground. he can only sit unsupported for a few seconds, but boy does he like trying. over and over and over again...

we just had a "fun" weekend, and by "fun" i mean really not fun at all. DH came down with a bad flu on wednesday which peaked on friday and saturday, and on saturday DS woke up with a milder version of it (chesty cough, raspy/ hoarse "voice" and very sniffly, plus he threw up a few times). they both recovered last night, but i was definitely nurse mama for a few days. it was fine though, i really feel as though i earned my motherhood stripes now :p

hope everyone else is managing to stay away from the flu. DS just woke up screaming, gotta go...

Well, I went and registered DD for MDO next year. It's hard to believe that when the next school year starts, she'll be a year old! I'm so looking forward to it. DS started at the same age, and he learned SO MUCH more than I ever could have taught him - it will be nice to give DD that same experience. (And I would be kidding myself if I didn't also say that I'm going to LOVE having a couple of days a week with no kids in the house!)

MDO = Mother's Day Out

It varies from place to place, but the program we go to is at one of the local Methodist churches. It's kind of like pre-preschool. They'll go 9-2 twice a week. In the class DD will be in (and DS is in now), they do all sorts of stuff. Art projects, singing time, story time, outdoor playing on the playground, learning shapes and colors, etc. I really like that it gives the kids a chance to socialize with friends without Mommy getting in the way. And I appreciate that my DS is learning that there are more adults in this world that he's supposed to behave for than just me and DH.

how old do they have to be for mdo? i didn't realize they did so much for the kids. it almost sounds like preschool. my mil watches dd for an hour or two a day, but it would be nice if she had something like that too. maybe, it will teach her to learn a schedule bc i can't get her on one.

eta - i just did a google search of preschools, and OMG i didn't realize that you had to register your kid almost at birth to get registered for preschool, and then there is a wait list!!!! i didn't realize i would have to think about preschool 4 years ahead of time. better get cracking.
***
dd is doing the cutest thing and i don't know if i should let her know i think its cute bc its almost like a temper tantrum, but she's not really doing it at times she's angry. she squeezes her eyes shut, wrinkles her nose, sticks out her tongue, clenches her fists, and says, "eeeeeeeeee."

two nights in a row of sleeping 5 hour stretches. though, i pay a price bc she only napped a total of an hour both of those days.

Asha - Ages vary. Our MDO starts at 6 months, but that's pretty rare. Most programs around here start at 12 months or two years.

Yeah, I had to show up to DD's school in the middle of the night to get in line to put her on the list. There were people there as early as 10pm the night before registration. Fortunately, they'll be returning students next time around, so I won't have to worry about middle of the night signups until #3 comes around and is old enough.

MDO is usually run through churches, so I found ours by googling local churches and looking through their websites.

In some areas, there are crazy waits. In some areas, you can just walk in the week before the school year starts and sign up. And of course it's school specific. There's an MDO in town here that you have to sign up for when you get pregnant if you want even a shot at getting in. Thankfully, our MDO isn't like that.

karlatta
02-22-2008, 12:39 PM
I think it really varies by geographical area. I live outside Houston, and the going rate here (for 2 days a week, 5 hours a day) is $150-200/month.

I *think* that is for childcare expenses so you can work. In the case of a SAHM, I don't think they would qualify.

i don't know about that, but i could be wrong. i've not seen anything in my dh's work literature that states that both spouses have to work to be eligible. actually, i plan on working part time once dd turns one, so we will be eligible.

karlatta
02-22-2008, 08:52 PM
I looked it up, and you can only do the Dependent Care FSA if you're using it to work or look for work (or are a full-time student). If you're married, both parents have to work or look for work (or be full-time students). So that wouldn't work for us.

Also, tuition is not accepted, and I don't know how they go about defining tuition vs. daycare for things like preschool/MDO. I know when I pay every month for MDO, they call it tuition. So it may be exempted anyway just because of that.

DD has started babbling like CRAZY! :D DS didn't hardly talk until he was a year and was still pretty quiet until 2yo when he started putting 3-4 words together. DD would holler and scream all the time (not crying, but seemingly frustrated) and now she's babbling - saying mama and dada.

I would like to start finger foods pretty soon. She's quickly losing interest in baby purees and I'd like to give her "chunks" of food instead. I'll start with puffs first I think, because they dissolve so well.

Ellyn - We've started finger foods. Not so much by my choice, but because DS keeps figuring out ways to sneak food to his sister. I figured after a few Goldfish and animal crackers (which she handled just fine) she was probably ready. :)

I'm glad we got on the food topic again. I kinda need some advice for my almost 7.5 month old...

Here is what I just posted in my journal..
Eating
I don't know if I've mentioned it before but Austin has a very sensitive gag reflex, so it's been very hard to try and get her to eat anything thicker than a strained texture. It is actually so sensitive, that she has made herself sick just eating strained foods! So anyway, tonight I broke up tiny, tiny pieces of baby mum mums again and she actually did really well! She gagged a little once. She gummed them, and swallowed! We tried this once before and she gagged on every piece!
So I guess we're on the right track?? Honestly, I can't feed her anything thick at all. The time she made herself sick she was eating mashed up banana, thinned with ebm! It was barely thick at all! I feel so bad for the little thing.
Does anyone have any other suggestions??

When did you start Stage 2? I still have DS on Stage 1 although I am planning to switch soon. I also bought some puffs and tried them and they dont dissolve as much as i thought they would so I am holding off on those for now. He did, however, take a bite out of my grape today! Swallowed it with no problem. I put it in his mouth to take a lick and he bit it! LOL

When did you start Stage 2?

I just started Maddy on stage 2 (and thickening the homemade stuff with cereal to get the same consistency) in the last week or so. So I guess she was about 7months 1 week. We started solids 1 week before the 6 month mark.

RobynScott

When did you start Stage 2?

Pretty much right away. We started DS on solids at 6 months - though probably about 6.5 months before we got to jarred foods (yeah, we're using store bought here). The stage 1's seemed to be the same as the stage 2 - just smaller serving sizes, so we went straight to stage 2 - and he's eating a lot of it! I actually wish it was thicker - I make his oatmeal pretty thick so he can get used to the texture.

Talking

Seth has been sick for a while (last week his temp hit 105 ) so he wasn't talking too much- but yesterday, he finally seemed to be better and my happy little guy was back with his "ga ga". That seems to be the sound we hear most now when he decides to talk. This morning, after nursing him, he leaned back, looked at me and said GA-GA - like he was talking to me - it was very sweet. He doesn't talk that often yet though (or even squeal or screech).

Seth's been army-crawling for a while now (I thought it was just creeping, but I'm pretty sure it counts as army-crawling) and is now starting to do a real arms off the groung - moving his legs crawl - it's crazy!

Hope everyone is doing well. I've been tryng to keep up - the last week and a half has just been a little crazy with a sick guy (bronchiolitis and double ear infections - and that was a few days *before* the high fever!) so I haven't felt like posting much - but I do read along.

I can't believe our little ones are getting so big!

Robyn Glad Seth is feeling better! I know you must have been really worried about the little guy. I know I would have been. Thats scarey!

(yeah, we're using store bought here).

LOL...I give DS store bought too. I was going to make it and I was real gung-ho about it but then decided agianst it since the fruits/veggies I would use arent organic so he'd be getting pesticides, etc.. I figured going with store bought Earth's Best Organic baby food was probably the better choice. Not to mention its just easier to buy the jars :p

When did you start Stage 2?

We are on Stage 3. Blake went on an eating strike and we tried 3 and he started eating again. He likes texture. We now thicken the stage 2 we have left and he will eat it.

Sorry I haven't been around I am back to work and am so not in the swing of things yet. :(

It's interesting to hear how our little ones are developing so differently, and they all seem to have such different personalities. :) It's crazy how many of you have crawlers already! DS is still non-mobile, but now he rolls all the time and likes to kick his legs and flap his arms when he's on his tummy. I'm ok with him being non-mobile for a while longer. :)

He also babbles a lot. It's funny, because he likes to "sing along" if I'm singing to him. It is specifically this sing-song voice he has. We think we heard him say "mama" the other day. I was in the other room, and DH was with him, and he started to get fussy, and I heard, "mama, mama." And DH said he did it again this morning. We're probably reading more into the babbling than what DS intended, though. ;)

I haven't transitioned to Stage 2 yet, but I probably also started later than most of you. It is still perplexing to me how they go from eating purees to eating Cheerios. LOL.

allianne ~ Good luck with being back at work!

Hey everyone, I haven't been in the group thread in forever but it is fun to read how everyone's LO is growing! My DD is still pretty non mobile. She loves being on her tummy so she'll flip back to belly, but likes to stay there and hang out.

When did you start Stage 2?
I would say about a week ago, but it's hard to say since we are doing homemade. Some foods I offer are just chunkier by nature (bananas, sweet potatoes--I stopped pureeing and just baking/mashing). DD only just started "chewing" her food (she has no teeth) over the weekend, we've been doing solids for about a month. She also *just* figured out how to pick up a puff and put it in her mouth tonight. Over the weekend just would just rake the puffs and hang on to them.

Pumping--I think I am hanging up the horns. :( My supply has been falling to the point where pumping is pretty pointless, I get maybe 1oz total per session. I've tried oatmeal, fenugreek, mother's milk tea, getting up in the middle of the night to pump...nothing has worked. So, once the rental on my hospital grade is up, I'm done. DD only nurses 1x/day (at bedtime), which probably contributed to the problem.

stopping in to drop off DS's 6-month stats:

18lbs3oz
28in

the doctor said he was in the 8-month range. he didn't cry when he got his shots, but had a meltdown in the car on the way home. we talked about solids (we have tried them twice now, but starting today will begin getting into more of a routine), plus separation anxiety/ reactions to strangers, which the doctor said will start coming up now. also i got a prescription for thrush for myself and DS.

polarama, sorry about the pumping and hope it's a smooth transition.

Stage 2 - I don't really know either, since I have been making DDs food. Some foods are pretty smooth that I make...like pears, and others are chunkier - peas (even though I put them through the strainer for the skin, they're still chunky). The nectarines I made on Sun are really chunky because I didn't peel them...I just cooked and pitted them and pureed them with the skins on and then strained them. But DD LOVES them so she'll eat them anyway I make them!

polarama - I hope you have a easy tranisition. I know the decision to stop (not matter when it is) can be really hard.

Robyn - last week his temp hit 105
Wow! That would have freaked me out. Last year DS had a 104 temp that we could not get to go down...we ended up in the emergency room. I hope he's recovering fast!

I e-mailed her. She said it's a $75 travel fee to Baltimore - and she won't go further than DC. You can e-mail her if you'd like - she's really nice and takes beautiful pics. I love how artsy they are - but it's hard to choose which to order then if you want some 'traditional' photos as well. I'll post a link to the rest of our pics in my LJ at some point if you want to see her work. Seth's in her portfolio too, which I think is pretty cool ;)

Thanks! That is so cool about "mama". I'm still excited over the "ga-gas" we are finally getting. I hear you on the finger foods. We still haven't even started fruits yet b/c we are still starting some veggies - and Seth doesn't have any teeth - I think it will be a little while yet before we introduce finger foods.

You've done great and given DD BM for a really long time - don't forget how great you have done! - and just think, Freedom from the Pump! Thanks! It didn't freak me out as much as I would have expected - don't know why! Thankfully it went away pretty quickly with Motrin. He finally seemed better by Sunday (about 10-11 days after he started getting sick) - and wouldn't you know it, by Sunday afternoon another cold was starting - he's got a cough now - ugh! Gag reflex ~ I think we're sticking with purees for a while. I tried to mash up a banana and give DS some this morning. He was really into it, was willing to take it into his mouth, but then started totally choking and gagging. It was kind of scary.

So, I guess we're in the same boat, ceaserbride!
