We've not been happy with our current ISP and we're thinking about switching providers. If you live in Ohio, will you tell me who you are with and what you like/dislike about them?
TIA!

We have TWC and are very happy with them. In the past, we've had windstream (DSL) and it was constantly going out (I had to reset the modem several times per day), sometimes for extended periods of time (days, and they didn't care because as they told me their number one priority is telephones (which clearly is NOT mine :p). Prior to that we had Comcast, which I did not like due to the fact that they would not offer new promos to existing customers (I think my DH was one of the first to get cable internet in the area, lol!) and the tech dept wasn't the best (they once told my DH that the reason the internet wasn't working was because his computer was fried, he rebuilt it and called them back a few hours later to have more "discussions" with the tech support. In the end it was the fact that they phased out those old, original modems - but didn't bother sending out a notice or new modem that would work. They also didn't have it noted anywhere for the techs ). Prior to Comcast, it was several different folks who were bought up (attbi, roadrunner (ironically, it's back to roadrunner!) and a few others that I forget their names). For awhile there, it seemed we were changing emails addresses every few months as they were bought/sold.

I'm not sure what part of Ohio you are in, but I am in Columbus, and we have Wide Open West (WOW is what everyone calls it though.)
I know you asked for just ISPs, but I'll give you an overall of our experience.
They are the cheapest we have found between the three companies that are available here. Time Warner, Insight and WOW. We have never had a problem with service being out for too long when it does go out, and customer service is usually pretty okay.
We just signed up to a new plan with them two months ago though and it was our first road block with them. We were calling to change our plan, since they had a new plan that the price was good until 2010 that was the same as the plan we were paying for... but the new plan included digital phone. (which we didn't have before, we only had internet and TV) So we decided to get that. Well when they came to install, the guy only brought the phone hook up.... not the new DVR and new Digital box we had asked for. (our old DVR box was dying, and we still had an analog box in the bedroom, so we were upgrading both of those.) We were a little upset, that he didn't have those items, so we called WOW, and the only thing they did was gave us a $10 "inconvenience" credit, and made another appointment to come out. Which was a week and a half LATER!!! So we were not happy about that.
However, we referred my parents to them, and they switched about 4 months ago. They have the HD channels and they say that the HD is MUCH clearer and crisper than the HD they had with the Dish Network before that. I do notice a difference in those channels when we go over there. So if that is a concern for you, that's a plus. That is if you plan on getting cable TV through this too.
Our internet is really fast and has never been down for long periods of time. We love our internet service through WOW.
Their website is www.wowway.com and I believe their phone number is 1-866-4WOWNOW, but I believe they are only in very certain parts of the state.

We go through Cincinnati Bell/Zoomtown. Very happy with it.

We just switched to Time Warner Cable (Road Runner) and are very happy with it. We were using our city's local ISP and it sucked. Imagine original dial up speed and only every 3rd page actually loading.

We are in Youngstown and have Armstrong Cable/zoominternet and we have had no problems. Time Warner Cable is also in our area and is about the same.
We pay $40 a month.

thanks everyone.... we have TWC right now and are being overcharged. We've been thinking about switching to WOW because we just got an ad for $99 for their bundle (digital cable, internet, phone). GoldEyes--is that the package you have? How much does yours end up being after all the fees, etc.?

I called my BIL for you and he said it depends on what special Time Warner has. He pays $101 every month for the 3 but he aso gets HBO & Starz.

We have 6 MB internet, digital phone, and Digital Basic PLUS Cable (there are lots of different cable tv packages, but this is the one we have) with 1 DVR box and 1 Regular Digital Box.... we end up paying $113 after fees and taxes, etc... a month. And the price is locked until 2010, which is the plus.

Have you called them? They were really reasonable, I felt, with dealing with billing issues. Also, if you call saying you're going to switch b/c of it (plus the special), they'll likely at least match that and give you something more (credit, channels, etc).

I'll probably try that first. We have basic cable (not even digital, and no dvr) and we're paying close to $90/mo and internet and there are definitely better deals out there.
I've heard nothing but got about WOW, though so we might just give them a chance.
