So we finally sold our home and are ready to start looking for a new house here in the 'burbs of Chicago. Our house we just sold was out of state so can't use the same realtor.

Anyone have tips on finding a good one who isn't pushy or annoying? We're looking in the NW 'Burbs if anyone knows the area.

Thanks!

You can ask your old realtor for a recommendation. We are in the same situation- sold in one state and buying in another. Our realtor interviewed realtors in the new location for us because he will get a cut of the new realtor's commission, so of course it is in his best interest to find the best realtor possible. This saves us a lot of hassle, I think.

One thing you can do is go to some open houses and see if you "click" with any of the realtors showing. We actually changed realtors when we found one that was more "in tune" with what we were looking for because he was showing a house.

When we were in the market, I used a seearch engine to look at house and called the sellers agents directly. I did this mainly to get a feel for the agent and less so for the house. It was pretty clear from a 5 - 10 minute phone call whether or not the realtor was for us or not.
