No royalty, but Al Green (the singer) is a distant cousin (my 3rd I believe).

My MIL was part of the royal family of Vietnam before the Vietnam War. They evacuated to the US and lost their status.

Damn it all... I'm jealous. I want to be related to Queen Latifah :(

Nope, not related to a single famous person... Related to a few infamous people though (infamous in prision if that counts :o )

Somewhere WAY down the line, Queen Victoria is a distant cousin.

Other than that...no one cool. :(

This one is kinda funny...BF's aunt (from marriage) is cousin's with David Hasslehoff. They grew up together and she has all sorts of photo albums of them as kids growing up. Its been years since I've seen any of them though. I should dig some out.

One of my cousins is a lead singer for a fairly well-known band, especially in southern colleges. They did a lot of college tours when they were starting out in the early 90's. (I prefer not to reveal the name of the band for the sake of my own privacy).

DH is somewhat distantly related to Debra Messing from Will & Grace.

well, I have zero proof, but my maiden name is Spencer, and I like to believe I'm related to Diana. Soon after her death, her brother's picture was in our local paper, and my mom showed the picture to me with the caption covered, and my immediate response was "why's Dad in the paper?" - my dad bears a striking resemblance to him!

So, common name, my dad's practically twins with her brother - it seems possible!

My mother, one sister, and myself have Clubbed Thumbs!!! (no one else in our family does tho!!) I didn't know anyone else who had them, until my current job, one other woman has them too!! Kids used to make fun of my thumbs in school growing up, ha!

Not Royalty, but I am related to Mark Twain. He was my paternal Grandmothers great Uncle. Also, on my mother's side I am related to Jack McConell, who at the turn of the century, was Canadas wealthiest man ( and the third wealthiest man in the world at that time).

DH is a distant relative to a former king of Poland. They even have the same name.

My mothers brother (whom I've never met) was a professional football player. AND, my mothers 2nd cousin was a cardinal and announced Pope John Paul II.

On my Mom's side we have ancestry in an old, old Scottish family which goes down through a bunch of the kings of Scotland (and England for that matter-- they're all connected in those very early days). But it's so, so far back in the day. It is kind of funny to read the notes on that bloodline because there's people with names like [seriously] "The Black Laird," and notes on other people that say things like "killed by MacBeth." Crazy.

I'm really into genealogy and know well that by the time you get back THIS far in history you're relying on a lot of heresay and records which may not be accurate. So, it should all be taken with a grain of salt.

My grandparents were really into the history of our family, so I know that I'm not-too-distantly related to:

Clara Barton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clara_Barton)

John Greenleaf Whittier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Greenleaf_Whittier)

and

Susanna North Martin (http://www.rootsweb.com/~nwa/sm.html), who was accused of being a witch in Salem and hanged for it. This was alway a nice go-to report in school ;) And is the reason Jer is convinced I have magical powers :p

OMG!!!!! You've just answered a lifelong question for my family. My brother has them, but I've never seen them on anyone but him! Thanks!

Oh, and I'm a distant cousin to an NHL hockey player, and DH's uncle (by marriage) is Kevin James' first cousin.

My grandpa on my mom's side said he found a paper trail linking ancestory origins to Anne Boleyn from his family. Not sure how true it is, the information he collected kind of died with him, not a lot passed on. At any rate the stories about her are interesting to read. My dad's ancestory side made it into the news a few times but far from royalty!

Standrea - I wonder if your DH and I are related!? The story goes.. that long long LONG time ago our ancestors had to flew Poland because of an uprising, all the brothers perished except one - and we are decended from him. Who knows?? At least it earned me a license plate that claims 'Polish Princess' :D

I don't think I'm related to any royalty - although I am related to Sam Houston. He's like royalty in Texas. ;)

My family is somehow distantly (through marriage) related to Patrick "Give me liberty or give me death" Henry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Henry).

No relation to royalty though as far as I know... Although supposedly the reason one of my ancestors originally came to the US is because he killed a deer on royal property and was escaping punishment... Yeah. We're thugs. :)

My parents are really into geneology as well. My dad was able to trace us back to one of the Kings of England. And on both my parents sides we can go back to the Mayflower. But anyone really famous, no.

On my mom's dad's side of the family, I'm related to John Rutledge, a signer of the Constitution and briefly Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and his brother Edward, a signer of the Declaration of Independence; they were also governors of South Carolina. Also Archibald Rutledge, an author... my mom's got a few of his books at home but I've never read them. I don't know much at all about him.
There's also a long-standing rumor in the family that we're also related to Ann Rutledge, the woman who was supposedly Abe Lincoln's first love, but that's never been proven by either genealogy or historians (that she was Lincoln's first love that is). And we're very very distant cousins of the Bush family. My mom's cousin was really really into genealogy and traced my grandmother's family all the way back to I think late 1600's-early 1700's Holland.

Not sure about my dad's side of the family. The only one left living aside from myself and my siblings is my aunt... I dunno if she's ever done any research or not. All I know is my dad's side of the family is Irish.

FIL is one to make stuff up, so who knows how true this is, but he claims to be related to some priest from Quebec that is up for sainthood.

On my dad's side, I'm related to the person who was the model for the muscled arm on the Arm and Hammer logo.

My family's Jewish so no royalty here unless you go way way way back ;). I've been told that we're related to Alan Dershowitz, but that's about as famous as it gets and I'm not really certain whether that's documented or just based on having the same last name somewhere in the family tree.

My dad's cousin on his mom's side is really into genealogy and supposedly I'm somehow related to Pocahontas. The other half of my dad's family is Greek - and the rumor is my great great grandfather left Greece because he was wanted/part of the Greek mafia. Who knows how true that is though!

My husband is a direct descendant of William Bradford (leader of Plymouth colony/governer) on his dad's side. The name "Bradford" is middle name that passed from generation to generation (BIL has it) and his grandmother goes nuts over any kind of Mayflower history. They also live in a Mayflower "themed" retirement community -- in "Bradford Hall."

My dad's family can supposedly trace itself back to the palace of Tsar Nicholas II and Rasputin. My aunt has a few items from the palace such as a tea set, clock and some serving items(they have all been certified.) My dad actually is strikingly similar to Rasputin and once even had his picture confused for him when he dressed in a similar fashion. It is family folklore that we were descendants of the royals through one of those infamous affairs.

My husband's uncle invented the release agent used by Waterford Crystal to get the items out of the molds. He also was a well known genealogist and was published (http://www.uni-oldenburg.de/nausa/golden.htm). He died when he got Legionairres disease while on a trip to a speaking obligation in Ireland. My husband had a couple other familial brushes with fame; one great-uncle (I think) was on the cover of a national magazine as one of the first paratroopers. His grandfather invented the device that spreads salt on the roads and someone in his family was involved with the first submarines.

My great-aunt showed me our family tree whick led to us being norwegian royalty. Supposedly if we went to Norway, we still have land that we could claim. Who knows? A friend I had in grade school was related to Edgar Allan Poe. Her mom even showed me first edition copies of some of his manuscripts.

I wonder if there's a parallel universe where people on a royalty and fame message board are asking each other if they're related to CC members.
