Tell me, what is your childs age, what toy is a big hit with you and your child as well as why you like it?

DS is 2.5 months (adjusted age 1.5 months). Right now we both have two favorite toys.

Dinosaur Roar! by Paul and Henrietta Stickland

Every time I pull out this book DS starts kicking his legs and gives me a big grin. I'm still uncertain if it's a visual or audio thing with him but I do know he favors this book to all others. I personally like it because it's a quick and fun read that I don't mind doing over and over. The book is about opposites and starts off "Dinosaur roar, dinosaur squeak, dinosaur fierce, dinosaur meek…."

Fisher-Price Melodies & Lights Deluxe Gym

It's not the prettiest living room decor but DS loves his play mat. When you hit bars or giraffe the music will play for a few seconds. DS had figured this out and loves to kick on the bars so he can hear the music and see the lights dance. DH and I get a lot of delight watching DS understand how it works and then interacting with it. Personally I like the melody it plays but if you don't you can change it to a rainforst melody which is a nice alternative.

At 4 months, Daniel's favorite toys are anything he can shove in his mouth. His favorites are Jangles and the butterfly teether from discovery toys and this little lion that has a mirror on one side made by Kids Preferred.

Aside from the aforementioned "things to shove in mouth" toys, H really, really likes her O Ball (http://www.amazon.com/Rhino-Toys-Original-Oball/dp/B000BNC9DM/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1200236436&sr=1-1).

Best of all, it's only $5.

DS is 4.5 months. He, too, loves the O Ball that karlatta mentioned. I think he likes it because it's so easy to grab.

His grandparents got him this Fisher Price Little Superstar Sing-Along Stage for Christmas, and he LOVES it. Big plastic toys that take up a lot of space are not really my favorite thing, but apparently DS does not share that sentiment. :)

It says 6 months and up, but he can sit in front of it with the Boppy around him for support now and loves to push the buttons to make the music play. He gets so excited looking at himself in the mirror.

Great thread papegirl! I was looking for ideas!!

DS at 8 weeks loves his fisher price rain forest bouncer. He has figured out how to make everything move and giggles when he gets the frog to go up and down. :)

Also really likes his gym by TinyLove. Used to only like the mozart music (a song I played on the piano while pregnant so I find that interesting) but now he really likes to kick the foot pad and make the different noises happen.

And his favorite book is The Very Hungry Catepillar. Well, he always smiles at the last page. Not sure if he likes the picture, or the surprise tone in my voice...(" a very beautiful butterfly!") He even likes it when big brother reads it to him.

Is my DD a freak? At three months, she doesn't seem interested in much. She's cool with the bouncy seat and swing and I guess I haven't tried the rainforest gym lately, but the blocks, glow worm, Lamaze earth worm.....none of them seem too enthralling to her!

Jenn -if your DD is a freak, so are most 2m old babies.

both mine didn't care about much except eating and sleeping until they were at least 3months...

DS#1 loved his leapfrog caterpillar, exersaucer, and this kaloo toy

DS#2 loves to play with my hands (there's a cheap toy!) and is starting to enjoy the mirrors and exersaucer.

Ha... far from it. DS loves to start the music on his rainforest gym but I don't think he cares for much else on it just yet. The attached toys are pointless to him. It's just the music and making it play that gets him crazed. You should try bringing it out for DD and "model" for her how things work. I'm sure some aspect of it she will take a liking to.

Is you DD into books yet? From what I "hear" certain books appeal to children and certain ages. If I'm correct right now they like to look at real pictures. DS does stare at the pages and I find he is more interested in certain pages but by no means does he seem interested in the actual story unless I am changing my voice. More then anything I think he likes to see my lips move. Come to think of it, I think my lips are his favorite toy! :D
