Dh picked up my prescription on the 8th for me. It's been sitting on the counter and I just opened the bottle to set out my pills for the week. I'm supposed to get 60, but there were only 30 in the bottle. Is there any chance the pharmacy is going to believe me since it's been several days? Anyone have any experience with this?

I'd check anyway. My pharmacy did something similar once and gave me my pills, no problem. It may depend on what the prescription was for, though.
Then again, my pharmacy knows me VERY well. I have tons of prescriptions, and some of them are pretty confusing. Breast cancer medication for infertility treatment, anyone? My pharmacist even knows me by name when I see him in other places around town.

They might be able to double-check their inventory to see that they made a mistake. Also it could be that they know they shorted you... once I was shorted and called the pharmacy the next day, and the pharmacist said, "Oh, I see a note here that we owe you 8 more pills!" They just forgot to tell me or put a note in my bag.

This happened to me once, with Flexeril. I noticed after a few days that there was definately not 30 in the bottle. Well, I brought the bottle in (to Rite Aid) and they fixed the problem. Now, if it is a narcotic, they probably would have to do more investigation (i.e. go through their inventory numbers, etc) before correcting the mistake.
Doesn't hurt to go in and find out! You paid for 60 not 30!

I'm glad to hear there's hope. I'm going to stop when they open this morning and see what happens. It's just blood pressure medication, so nothing super fun than anyone would want to steal I'm sure.

Is is possible that you recieved pills that are double the perscribed dose? My pharmacy will do this if it works out cheaper for you, instead of 20 200mg pills they will give 10 400 mg pill and you just have to cut them in half.

Well.. the still says QTY 60 on it and they didn't say anything about it. The pills look the same as they always do. That could be a pretty serious problem if they did that and neglected to tell someone.

So does the bottle say QTY 60 or was that just the way the dr wrote the perscription? On a lot of things my dr may write it out for 60 pills but the insurance will only pay for 30 at a time.

I'm not sure how pharmacies are down there, but here (or at least all the ones I have visited) they are extremely careful when dispensing any prescription. They would never change the dose without making SURE they pointed it out to you, especially if its going to a higher dose. Even at that, I dont think they would ever change the Dr's exact instructions without discussing with you first. As well, I would think that they have to somehow account for every item dispensed (they must have some system because they cant count every pill every night) but they must keep track somehow. But if you point it out to them, they should be able to easily check. Good luck!

The bottle says 60. It's not a new prescription, I've been on it for a year and it's always been 60.
I haven't had a chance to get to the pharmacy yet, but I'll update when I do.

Something similar happened to me with an antibiotic DD was prescribed.
Both the Rx and the instructions in the bottle said to give it to her for 10 days, but the bottle only had enough doses for 5 days. I called the pharmacy (I think it was CVS) on day 4 when I saw there wouldn't be enough doses and they filled the rest of the doses for me with no problem.
I hope you had the same luck.

This is the exact reason that my friend spent the last YEAR of his life in a hospital and nearly lost his life. They never told him that they did that , he took double the dosae for 3 months, and the result was almost fatal.
(Luckily, he was released --and finallly a year and a half later is on the way to recovery ).
ALWAYS ALWAYS CHECK THE DOSAGE :)

 WOW! That is scary! I hope the pharmacy (ist) was held accountable for that huge mistake! Thanks for the reminder!
OP, I'm curious if you were able to get the problem fixed.

I just got back from the pharmacy and they fixed it no problem. I kind of wish they had been more polite about it, but I'm really just glad I got the pills I paid for.

I kind of wish they had been more polite about it...I felt this way too! Pharmacy errors are very serious, no matter how benign they may seem. They indicate that someone isn't paying attention, and that should be noted whether the result was dangerous or not. I agree with above poster: always double-check your prescription!

I had seen this thread yesterday...glad you were able to get your correct pills. Ironically, the exact same thing happened to me this morning! It was only BC so nothing major (ok, you know what I mean--LOL!), and I should have gotten 4 months worth, 84 pills in a refill. I only got one, even though the sticker on the box said 84. She apologized and gave me the rest no problem (I was still in the store when I realized). It is scary to think about pharmacists not paying attention though!
