I bought it last night and satyed up all night reading it. I love those books. They have me laughing out loud, I tell ya. And I am definetly a Ranger fan, myself. I am sure she'll end up with Morelli, but I wish she'd pick Ranger! I love him. Anyone else addicted?

I have heard a lot of people like the book-- that 11 is the best one yet. I have it on hold at the library, who knows when I will be able to read it.

They are so good! Grandma Mazur cracks me up everytime. Her and Lula, I swear. I wouldn't go so far as to say 11 was the best, but it was darn good. To be honest, I can't pick a "best". All I have to say, is I LOVE Ranger. .....sigh.......

Just finished 11 last night. YAY! It was good. Very quick read though, I was almost disappointed when I finished just because of that. And I'm with you on the Ranger thing Asianbear...yum yum.

Ahhhh Ranger. I can almost smell him. Sigh.

It was def. a quick read, I finished it the day I bought it! As for Ranger...I used to be a counter manager for the fragrance counter (mens and womens) at Macy's. I had a woman come in and ask me of we carried Bvulgari. I told her we didn't, but I could find a store that did. She then explained she didn't want to buy it, she just wanted to know what Ranger smelled like! I was craking up, cause I had wondered the same thing! I love those books, but get so frustrated with the shortness, and length of time between each... I wonder how long she will keep them up...

I'm wondering as well. I'm torn between enjoying all of the antics that go on and wanting Stephanie to just make some freaking progress on SOMEthing. I want a little more than action. I want to see her figure out some things, make a decision on a man or just find a new man if she can't decide...Evanovich can only keep this up for so long before it starts feeling like the same book over and over again...

I LOVE this series and so glad to find more that do. I liked Eleven, laughed out loud, and was thrilled to revisit the characters, but I didn't feel like anything moved forward at all.
Ranger, mmmmmm. . . . yum. . . . I need to go and smell that colgne.
I think Moreli isn't too bad either though.

i totally agree that Stephanie needs to start making some decisions, although I feel like picking between Morelli and Ranger will be the conclusion of the series. However, introducing a new man into her life would be interesting. Especially if he turned out to be a bad guy! I think it would be great if Grandma Mazur got married! That would be a hoot.

Ranger.. *drool*
When I worked at Barnes and Noble a bunch of us discussed who we would like to play in a movie version of these books. I think we decided Sandra Bullock would be a great Stephanie..

When I think of who would play Ranger - all I can think of is Antonio Banderas, and well, he's not hot enough.
Have you guys gone to her website? www.evanovich.com. I know her daughter runs it, but it's sort of well, elementary IMO.
BTW - I was at Ulta this weekend and had to smell Bvulgari.

I read the entire book on Friday night. Yes, I am a dork. DH had to work late, though...
My mom and I talked about the movie idea. We also had Sandra Bullock picked for Stephanie. For Ranger, we thought the Rock. Can't figure out a good Morelli, though...
I, too, am ready for her to do something. Moving on from the bounty hunter job was an interesting twist. I wonder how that can keep going, though. Well, I don't want to say any more for those who haven't read it yet.
I am already looking forward to next summer.

I could totally see Sandra Bullock playing Stephanie. I think Betty White would make the greatest Grandma Mazur! Also, it's gotta be the Rock or Vin Diesel (he'd need some hair, tho) for Ranger. Morelli's kinda tough. Gotta think on that one.... Who would play Lula?

Who would play Lula?
How about Queen Latifa? I know she's really a lot classier than Lula, but I bet she could do it.
Natasha
08-09-2005, 07:26 AM
Thats kinda who I was thinking, too. Or maybe the lady who played the mom on the Parker's. she is also one of the queens of comedy...lemme go find her... Mo'Nique.

I can't picture either the Rock or Vin Diesel talking with a sexy latino accent for Ranger's character. Plus, I thought Ranger was shorter - like 5'11" or 6 ft tall. Actually, I'm sure I wouldn't be happy with any character - he's so much hotter in my mind.
I think that Monique person would be PERFECT for Lula!
Natasha
08-09-2005, 01:37 PM
Lol, just trying to think of one of them with an accent is too funny. Maybe we could import an actor? lol I can TOTALLY see Mo'Nique as Lula... I dunno, I can totally picture the Rock cocking one eyebrow and saying "Babe." lol

Love the books as well.
I kind of like Marisa Tomei as Stephanie
I'm OK with the Rock for Ranger
I used to think Jim Caviezel for Morelli until he did the Passion, now I am not sure of Jesus as Morelli, but who knows!
Loving MoNique as Lula. Hee.
I picture Grandma Mazur as like Estelle Getty or something. Or the rapping grandma from Wedding Singer.

the rock isn't hot enough to be ranger.. i agre with vwinkel that he's much much MUCH hotter in my head :D

I like the idea of Marisa Tomei. I think she has the right kind of hair, lol.

I really can't picture many guys in the Ranger role.
Although on second thought, I thought that Arab guy in the Mummy movies was pretty darn sexy. He could totally pass as Cuban. He has a yummy voice and could probably pull off a slight accent. Antonio Bandaras could pull it off if he was as sexy as he was in Zorro, but he's just not as hot as he used to be.
Marisa Tomei is a good choice for Steph, but I could totally picture Sandy Bullock too.
Gma Mazur, hmm, I immediately think of Estelle Getty too. She'd be perfect.
Natasha
08-10-2005, 06:30 PM
If Estelle Getty was healthier, I could totally see it. I can still see Betty White pulling it off. I have to agree, the two hardest characters to cast woul;d be Ranger and Morelli.
Lanapoo
08-11-2005, 02:52 PM
For some reason I thought Estelle Getty was pretty healthy, maybe because they portrayed her as a much older woman on Golden Girls than she really was. I guess I hadn't heard that she'd gone downhill. I heard that Betty White is a lot more versatile than most people give her credit for so I think she could do a good job.
I just lent Eleven to my mom, we're both hoping for some exciting things in the next book!
Natasha

Estelle Getty has some sort of physical dememntia. I forget what exactly, but she is kinda ill. She was the third oldest golden girl (I checked her website). Betty White and Bea Arthur are both older. I lent 11 to my mom, I should check and see if she finished it yet.

o.k., so I'm not reading book #11, but I just started Janet Evanovich's first book of the series about Stephanie Plum. So far, I'm really enjoying the book ('One for the Money'). It's great beach reading & it has me cracking up constantly! My boss's wife just lent me the first 9 books.

I JUST FOUND THIS PLACE! I have read all the books with the exception of 1 and 2. I just started 11. I love her books. I am a little sad about finishing them up because I don't know how many more she will write and when it's over, it's over.
Here's what I picture in my head (I also have listened to some of them as books on tape and she does a great job of matching their voices to the ones I had in my head!)
- Antonio Banderas: Ranger
- Benjamin Bratt: Morelli
http://www.mixedfolks.com/images/benjaminbratt_small.jpg
- Marisa Tomei would be Great for Stephanie!
http://gfx.filmweb.pl/p/286/po.36755.jpg
- Ann Morgan Guilbert (Yetta from The Nanny) for Grandma Mazur
http://www.lifetimetv.com/images/shows/nanny/stunts/cast_yetta2.jpg
- Tank (how about The Rock for that?!?)
- The girl from The Parkers would play a great Lula but do you know who I think about when Janet talks about her hair beads banging around? Do you girls remember in Legally Blonde when they were doing the Bend and Snap in the beauty parlor. There was a black lady in there in a windbreaker and she had hair beads and was dancing around... that is who I think of! :D

Man o man, when Grandma M shot the ass off the chicken and made me laugh so hard I almost split my stitches b/c I just had surgery and I was crying in pain b/c I was laughing hysterically, I was hooked! I'm a book behind though b/c I only buy hard cover when the go cheap at B&N so I've read 1-9 and getting desperate to buy 10 in hard cover.
If you guys like Janet E. I'd recommend Jennifer Crusie. I started with Welcome to Temptation and would read it out loud at night to my husband b/c I would be chuckling and he'd be going what what. He enjoyed it enough that he put down his own book to listen to me read mine :)

Okay, so I was reading the letter section of Parade (that comes in the Sunday paper) and they were saying that the rights to the Stephanie Plum series has been bought and that they were thinking about Reese Witherspoon in the lead role! Anyone else think Reese Witherspoon a pretty odd choice for Stephanie Plum?
Camdynlyn

I think that is an odd choice, although I am a huge fan. She doesn't fit my 'jersey' imagination of that. SHe fits 'southern' for me.

ooh - I just found out about the Stephanie Plum Series. I just listened to Ten Big Ones on CD (it was one of the few good audio books my library had). It totally got me hooked, so I went to Amazon and bought the first four books. I can't wait to dive into them. The woman who did the audio for Ten Big Ones did a great job with most of the characters.
I pictured Joe as Ray Liotta:

YAY!! I just bought 12 tonight. The plan is to save it for my flight from phoenix to london next Tuesday, but I don't know that I can wait that long. I LOVE these books!! I wish she could write them faster. Normally I'd just get it at the library because hard covers are so dang expensive, but I just couldn't help myself :)

Yeah Reese is definitely a strange pick for lead especially since Steph has brown hair doesn't she? (and super curly too)
BOOK 12:
I bought it and finished it within two days. It was my favorite of the series so far. It's hilarious from the start and gets funnier as she goes on. She was definitely on a roll with this book.

I ended up going to Target and they were sold out of everything except the book on CD. However, I commute to work and listen to books on CD all the time, plus it was only $13.96!! I just finished it on my way in today and liked it. It's always sad to me when the book is over though! I have to wait so long for the next one! :(
There was an interview with the author at the end and she mentioned the movie thing. Apparently the rights to One for the Money were sold before it was even published! However, there have been many scripts and nothing was ever picked up. She then said that she tried to buy the rights to the movie back so that she could have it created sooner, but they wouldn't budge. Janet's comment was that she would be on oxygen and walking with a walker at the premiere of the movie. Doesn't look like it's happening any time soon.
One last comment was that they would have been better off making the movie right away because now everyone has such a clear idea of the characters, no one will be happy with the casting! She said that there will probably be picketing and maybe riots after they announce the actors! :D

you guys are making it super hard for me to save my book for the plane on mon night/tuesday! I just finished my current read last night...
I really don't know that I'd like the books to become a movie. Probably does have a lot to do with how long the series is now, they'd have to use nobody actors, i think ;) As much as I love her, I so cannot see Reese doing Stephanie... Some things are better left in books, and if people don't like reading, then well, it's their loss ;)
