So you Sept mommies don't know this but Seth was diagnosed with severe multiple food allergies around 11 months old. He was allergic to at least 40 things back then (we tested him for about 50 and came out + to 40 of them) and I had to wean him in 2 weeks since I couldn't eat his diet. This past August when he went for his 1 year blood follow up, the # of allergies went down to 20. She (the allergist) felt that by this Feb when I bring him in for his 6 month skin test that he'd outgrow wheat.

We're trying wheat with him today! The allergist had told me back in Sept was could do some food trials at home for the things he tested low for as long as they weren't anything with seeds or related to dairy. We never really felt comfy doing it so we didn't. She had also told me in August that she felt very strongly there was a HUGE chance of him outgrowing his wheat allergy by his Feb skin test (Feb 5) so we did a small trial last night and gave him McDonald's french fries (the oil they cook them in is also used to make the nuggets, which have wheat) and he didn't react!! So right now he's snacking on regular pretzels (dairy and egg free of course!) He's so excited to try Daddy's pretzels and told me he's not allergic. I tried to explain to him we don't know yet and have to wait and see how his skin does. Cross your fingers he doesn't react! Do you know how HUGE it would be if we could get wheat?! OMG That would only leave dairy and eggs and the really big huge ones that are hard to avoid!!

Liz, if you need help being TM, let me know. I can't promise how much I'll be able to do in the next month or so, but I can help as much as possible if you need it.

5 weeks from tomorrow and I'll be a mommy of 3! YIKES!!!!

Godsgift77 - Yes, Twins! I still don't know how we get through it on most days. While I wouldn't trade my girls for anything, I have thought how easy life would be with JUST a toddler and a single baby (ya, right). So, then I remind my self that people that have triplets or quads probably think my life is easy. I guess it's all perspective and we learn to handle what we've been given. I hope your little one is learning to sleep through the night - life gets so much better!

Eliezrah - congrats on the progress with the allergies. I also went to your "bro's memorial" site. So sorry you lost him. I also lost my brother when he was 25 years old. It's been 18 years and unfortunately still hurts. Just giving you a "hug" and letting you know you are not alone.

Hi everyone! It's nice to meet other mommies and welcome to our new thread my fellow CC friends....yes-3 years-my goodness!
My DD is going through his terrible 2's from hitting to saying "no" every other word. He sleeps terrible and will only fall alseep outside of his bed. We put him in once sleeping, but he always winds up with us by 4am. He has more energy than 5 toddlers put togeher (or should I say other than ours ;-)) But I love him!

brinkTthe girls have gotten SO big!
Eliezrah 3 kids-that's wonderful!

Brink

Lisa - he was killed in a motorcycle accident. One of those fluke things where 98% of the time he had is helmet on. This one time he didn't because he was only going a few miles from home. A drunk stepped out into the roadway in front of his motorcyle. He hit the brakes and managed to save the guys life, but caused major damage to himself. He spent 2 weeks in the ICU before passing. Sorry - more than you asked, but I wanted to share. Yes, I hate it too that he never got to meet my kids. It is really weird because there is this huge part of my life that my husband and my kids will never know. No matter how many videos we watch or times I talk about him, they will never "know" him. I'm sad for my brother that he never got to see my kids, but I think I'm even sadder for my kids that they will never know what a great uncle they would have had. Anyway - getting teary eyed right now. I haven't talked that much about him in a long time - funny how things hit you sometimes.

YEAH - Hi everyone! I am so excited to get to know the Oct moms.

Liz - I would be happy to help if you would like another TM.

Brink - WAY cute picture of the three girls!

Eliezrah - Congrats on the upcoming arrival of #3!

We are doing well - getting over some sickies. Caitlin got a cold over the weekend and now has a lingering cough. I called the ped yesterday to see if she was old enough for any cough medicine and they called in a prescription for a cough syrup - it works well for about 6 hours but from 2am on she is still coughing and can only have the meds every 12 hours. Tonight we might try waiting until after midnight to give her the meds and see if that helps her to sleep better into the morning. Otherwise she is in good spirits.

Except for at night, we are full time in undies - yeah! She is doing so so well and very rarely has an accident. We still struggle with her not wanted to go when we ask, only when she says she needs to go so I always make sure that I know where the closest bathroom is. She also refuses to wear any "girly" undies and will only wear Aidan's old Thomas, Bob, Cars and firetruck undies.:) It is obviously no big deal, but I wonder if they are more comfy with the higher waist band or if she is just being stubborn.

One issue we have been dealing with lately is that Caitlin really needs alot of warning and boundaries before a transition (one more book before bed, after we read this book we are going to turn out the light etc etc.) I am pretty good during the day, but sometimes there just isn't time - oh holy me does she have a major meltdown. DH has been particularily frustrated because he doesn't have the amount of practice I do plus he does alot more things on the spur of the moment. I don't remember having to do this as extensively with Aidan.

Hi to all and I hope that you all are having a great week!

Alison and Lisa - I could definitely use more TM. Every bit helps, so don't worry if you don't have a lot of time - I'm not making you commit to anything! After everybody who wants to join has joined, I doubt there will be much to do anyways. Sending you pms with the info. Thanks!

Thank you so much for starting this thread. Here is a recent picture of Ash:

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b8df31b3127cceb3c69715287400000026109IZt3Lho0o

She is a very headstrong child who basically gives me a fit about everything - she wants to do everything herself, she thrives on routine and predictability. I swear she refuses to potty train because I am asking her to do it, so we are no where near potty training which is horribly frustrating to me. We've really started to crack down on her behavior (she wants her way all the time, wants to do everything herself, has a fit if something isn't as she thinks it should be) so she gets stuff taken away and time outs quite frequently. And she finally started sleeping at age 2 so she is still in her crib..I am not messing with a good thing right now.

Eliezrah - I also visited your brother's memorial..didn't you also loose a husband? Sorry about the allergies..I had a friend with a DD with the same type of situation and it was very hard for her.

brink - I had no idea about your brother - I am so sorry.

Alison - wow - the kids are getting so big!! And that is great news about the potty training - I am so jealous!

Amanda, yuppers, 5 more weeks and I'll be a mommy to 3... I think I'm nuts! LOL

Tina, {{HUGS}} I'm so sorry. I know how sometimes you just start talking and it all comes out. I'll probably either be talking a lot about Jerry (or not at all) around his birthday. His favorite restaurant was Hooters so we go every year.. with the kids as well!

Alison, full time day trained already?! WOW! That's great! Seth also needs major transition warnings or he freaks out. I keep telling DH that but he forgets and sometimes says "OK bedtime" w/o having given any 5 more minute warnings.. Oh boy does Seth freak out then!

Kim, I lost a FH about 3 years before my brother. Too many loses at a young age!

~~

Potty training: Seth isn't really working on training yet, but when we ask him if he wants to try to make pee pees on the potty, he says yes and goes about 90% of the time. If we don't say anything, he almost never asks us to go. I think he asked maybe 3 times total. So when we have the time and are home, I'll ask him if he wants to try, but I'm in no rush. Jackie was just under 3 1/2 when she trained and she did it literally overnight (nighttime training was 1-2 weeks later). I already did the 2 in diapers thing when Seth was born and I don't mind doing it again, but I am encouraging him to try.

pting-no where even close, not even pushing it. we were out of town in a hotel in dec, and Kai actually asked to poop in the potty! he did it twice that day. Other than that, if you ask, he runs away crying. he will sit on his potty, but only if he is fully clothed! i am not going to push it untill he's 3

cr8zyforaf--stubborn pting? This was my 4 year old. We finally got him PT'd right before he turned 4. It was nothing but a power struggle. He COULD do it--he didn't WANT to do it. I feel for you. I hope you can get Ashley trained sooner than I got Colin trained (then again I didn't even try with Colin until he was over 3).

Potty training - Daytona has been 100% potty trained day and night since she was 23 months old. Other than when she had diarrhea from the stomach flu, I can't remember the last time she had an accident. We started when she was just over a year and was waking up with a dry diaper after naps and first thing in the morning. Once she understood what to do (around 18 months) we started letting her go diaper free as much as possible at home, but still used a diaper for going out. When she got the hang of that (around 22 months) we went to underwear full time and haven't looked back since.

thanks jenjen and godsgift--yes it was a very scary time for me and it didn't help that it fell on the christmas season. but i am thankful that it's not cancer. i'm still feeling a little bit of pain but it's getting better. i still have a lump but i'm definitely breastfeeding again as the breast specialist said it's one of the ways to get rid of the mass.

good news--can i just tell you guys that we had ds in his big boy bed last night for the first time and he never even gave us any problems. i put him down again tonight about two hours ago and he's out. thank God because i thought i would have to sleep train him again for weeks. he really likes his bed and i made sure to get the softest blankets and sheets so today for his nap, this boy actually told me, "mama, i'm tired. i go to bed." i couldn't believe it. i just hope that this pattern continues.

potty training - No where close to it! We tried over Christmas break and he went once, but no amount of stickers on the potty reward chart, or chocolate chips as bribery or his potty watch were enough to convince him that pottying in the potty is a good thing. He just isn't ready, plain and simple. So jealous of those of you that do have kids that are.

mcl - So glad the big boy bed transition went so well.

QOTD - Anyone else's child have nightmares and wake up screaming for you? In the last two weeks it has started and he'll wake up crying out for me. I've been watching what he sees on TV right before bed thinking maybe he was seeing something scary, but there isn't anything. I'm sure hoping it is just a stage.

hmbay
01-11-2008, 07:37 AM
QOTD--yep. Been that way since he was born. FWIW I think night terrors are common at this age and not necessarily dependant on what they saw before they went to bed.

every now and then he will cry out, but he usually goes right back to sleep.

Kais new thing now is waking up around 4am, and getting into bed with us. ughh!
he either wants to sleep in our bed, or kaimi's bed. i am starting to wonder if we just got him his full size bed now it would make him want to stay in his bed. He has the toddler bed now.

QOTD Luckily, no night terrors for us now, but you never know what will happen.

We tried wheat with Seth yesterday! The allergist had told me back in Sept we could do some food trials at home for the things he tested low for as long as they weren't anything with seeds or related to dairy. We never really felt comfy doing it so we didn't. She had also told me in August that she felt very strongly there was a HUGE chance of him outgrowing his wheat allergy by his Feb skin test (Feb 5) so we did a small trial 2 nights ago and gave him McDonald's french fries (the oil they cook them in is also used to make the nuggets, which have wheat) and he didn't react!! So yesterday he snacked on regular pretzels (dairy and egg free of course!) He's so excited to try Daddy's pretzels and told me he's not allergic. I tried to explain to him we don't know yet and have to wait and see how his skin does. Do you know how HUGE it would be if we could get wheat?! OMG That would only leave dairy and eggs and the really big huge ones that are hard to avoid!!

Well we found out that the fries are made with hydrolyzed milk so I called the allergist to discuss it all. She said to stay away from the fries even though he didn't react. Hydrolyzed milk means it's broken down so there are no proteins in it, which is what he's allergic to, but it's best to avoid anything with milk in it at all. Wendy's fries are safe for him so that's what we'll get him once in a while for now.

As for wheat, she said to give it to him every day for the next 2 weeks. If he still doesn't react, she won't even test him for it!!!! For dinner last night he was able to eat Jackie's pop corn chicken and he loved it!!!

BTW, we don't always feed the kids such junk, just lately since I'm not really up for cooking of any kind! LOL

QOTD- Henry still sleeps in a crib. He hasn't woken up in the night crying for us, but about once a week he wakes in the morning (regular time) crying because of a bad dream.
Lately he has been crying before his nap, right when I put him down. "I want you mama", "I wanna rock little bit more", "I just want something". It is hard to get him settled in to sleep....Not sure what is going on with him. He just sounds so distressed and pitiful. :( So I rock him a bit more, he cries a little bit then I put him back down and he is ok. So odd.

Henry is day potty trained....we started in July, so 22 months? But for a month or maybe two, we wore vinyl covers over his undies when we went out. The potty was a PITA at first, but now is great. He is tall enough to urinate in a real potty while we are out which makes things so much easier. For quite some time I would have to carry a potty with me which sucked. He still can't reliably pull his pants up and down so I do have to help with that almost every time. It is tough because he wants to do it by himself. But he definitely can't operate the snap on jeans...I have been trying hard to buy elastic waist, but I know most of the things I bought ahead last year for spring have snaps.

Night terrors: Alex has them very rarely. Maybe once every two months. He will wake up in the middle of the night screaming and it takes forever to console him.
Alex is still in a crib. He never climbs out of it even though I'm sure he could, considering the little monkey he is on the play ground. So I'm not in a hurry to move him. My boss has a two year old and just orderd him this bed:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51DZWQSV7KL._AA280_.jpg

I'm going to see how her son likes it and then we might get Alex one as well. I like that I can still use his crib mattress with it and later replace it with a twin mattress.

Such CUTE pictures everyone - I don't even know where to begin.:)

godsgift - what a beautiful family!!

hmbay - your kiddos are all so adorable!

kanga - your girls are so cute - great smile!

eliezrah - those are such cute pictures and backgrounds. I just realized that both of our kids are close in age - Aidan and Jackie are 6 weeks apart and Seth and Caitlin are 2 weeks apart! I see that your c/s is in one month - how exciting!

dragonfly - your son is adorable!

night terrors - no, Caitlin generally doesn't have issues at night. She too is still in a crib and I think that sometime this summer we will introduce a bed.

We are doing well. Caitlin has been rather demanding lately and I must say 100 times per day - "please use your nice voice/could you ask me that using your regular voice." etc... She is such a different personality/temperment that Aidan is/was - it really is amazing how different they are. It seems like we can't even take advantage of the fact that we have already been thru this once because things are so different!

school? Aidan brought home the paperwork today to register for school for the fall - is anyone else doing preschool this fall? Our school cutoff is Oct 1 so Caitlin makes it and Aidan doesn't so they will actually only be one school year apart. In August she will start preschool in the 3 year old class, but we need to decide whether she should go from 9-11:30am or 9-1pm. Because she will be so young, I am leaning towards the shorter morning but Aidan will go from 9-1 so it would be easier/nicer to do one drop off and pick up. But DH honestly thinks that she will enjoy and be ready for the longer day. We have two weeks to decide. I just can't believe that it is time for this - this time next year we will be picking a Kindergarten for Aidan - yikes!

Hope that you all are doing well!

A

godsgift77

Alison - Thanks for the compliment! As far as preschool goes, the only way CJ can go to a public pre shool would be if we were in a certain income group - and we aren't - but we also can't afford private school ($250 / week) so CJ will be with grandma for at least another year :(

Kanga
01-16-2008, 05:24 AM
Preschool - probably not. I'm not sure when the cutoffs for school is in this area, but I'm pretty sure she'll miss it by a 2 months or so. The state just made preschool free for all 4 year olds so if she does go, it would be out of pocket but the following year would be free Fortunately unless you want Montessori style or some other private school, it's very reasonable at $100-$200/month.

hmbay
01-16-2008, 07:32 AM
preschool--nope. MN cutoff is Sept 1st so all 3 of my kiddos will end up some of the oldest in their classes. Colin will go to school this fall. We plan to send our kids to the lutheran school associated with my church and they sometimes make exceptions for the Sept 1st cutoff but said it's very rare they will do so so I don't even plan to ask about Alex and Sabrina.

About school...

If they have a 2 year old class I will. Paige went to a 2 year old class at a local preschool and is now in their 3 year old class. The 2 year olds only went twice a week for a couple hours. But they didn't have enough interested for one this year. We'll have to see. If they don't, then he won't go till 3.

School - Aimee has been in daycare since she was little and when they turn 2 they move into a "pre-school" class. But, this is just through her daycare. I never even thought of looking into some type of public school system until she was 4-5. Should I be?

cr8zyforaf
01-16-2008, 01:44 PM
School - Ashley has always been in daycare...however, I consider it 'pre-school' as they follow a program during the 'school year' with goals for each age. I think the cutoff for Kindergarten is September 1st...but I do plan on testing her in (her birthday is the 6th).

AlisonCO
01-16-2008, 02:55 PM
Brink - I think that as long as you are happy with A's daycare and feel like she is being stimulated and being exposed to play based learning, that there really isn't a "need" for preschool. I am a SAHM so for me preschool was important so my kids can be introduced to a classroom, teachers, socialization with peers, fun projects and different skills. The school they go to is a church based preschool with small classes - the 3 and 4 year old classes are 100% play based so no worksheets etc. The 5 year old pre-K (which Aidan will go to this fall) follows a specific curriculum for pre-K. We do have public preshool here thru the school district but most of the classes are for kids that have special needs. Mostly I just love the small classes and the amazing projects they do - I really thought that I did a pretty good job with crafts and letters etc at home but it pales in comparison to what those teachers do with the kids.

What is interesting to me is that in different areas of the country there seems to be different norms as far as preschool. Here it seems split between 1-2 year of preschool before Kindergarten. My friend lives on the east coast and in her city, everyone sends their kids to 2 years while my cousin in the midwest tells me that kids there only go to pre-K. When I was little in the late 70's I went to pre-K at 4 and Kindergarten at 5, but my sister in the late 80's went to preschool for 2 years. Unfortunately now there is alot more expected of kids entering Kindergarten - I think that when we were little Kindergarten then was more like preschool now - lots of play etc not as much curriculum/lessons.

QOTD-I haven't really thought about pre-school for age 3. If we have another child, then yes I will probably send him, if we don't then I will probably keep him home.

I'm having nap problems and could use some advice. Henry had been napping 2 or 3 hours a day and sleeping 11 hours over night.
The past week or two he has been not napping. We will go through the routine as usual, he will even say "I'm so tired" then he will get in bed and cry/ or call me. He will not settle down and go to sleep. (We don't CIO for more than 10 min) On the days he has napped it has only been for 1 hr.
On these days I've been putting him to bed a hour early (he is very tired), but now he is waking up 30 or 45 min earlier.
What the heck is going on? Please tell me he isn't going to stop napping! Do I just keep trying?

Eliezrah

Alison, too funny about our kids!!!

Preschool: Yuppers, Seth will be in the 3s room this Sept 2 full days a week! Jackie misses the cut off so she'll be redoing the 4s (they'll let them go ahead in preschool but not in the kindergarten) so they'll be 1 year apart in school since Seth makes the cutoff by 1 day! I could have put him in the 2s this year but what's the point if I stay home?

Jackie goes to a private Hebrew Day School that takes 2 year olds through 8th grade, and that's where Seth goes to Mommy & Me and will go to preschool. Once they're each ready for kindergarten, they're going to public school, which has the same Oct 1 cut off. Jackie's been going to this school since she was 3 so we figure it'll be a good start for Seth as well (and a nice 2 day a week break for me to have alone time with the baby!!)

This is the only place I'd send Seth since they have a school nurse there 4 days a week. I wouldn't trust a regular day care around here with his allergies, especially since I heard most of them won't do EpiPens!! They have A LOT of experience w/ multiple food allergy kids so I feel as safe as I can about sending him!!

Speaking of allergies.... Seth is OFFICIALLY NOT ALLERGIC TO WHEAT!! He passed his at home trial with flying colors and it's amazing how much more stuff he can eat!!!!

Napping - we went through a spell much like you describe beach a few weeks back...she refused to nap (at daycare and at home) and if she did, it was for like 30-40 minutes. I was putting her down a bit earlier because she was horrible by about 7, yet she was getting up at 5...maybe she was going through a growth spurt or getting sick (she did get a bad cough shortly after that)...now, she is back to napping for 2-3 hours and still waking earlier..but not as early. I would try fighting it a bit longer before deciding that he is dropping the nap.

Have a great weekend everyone.

lisa- that sucks so much! yes, there should be a waiting period of 24 hours at least. actually, if they have a fever with it, it's 48 hours. at least that's how it is here in california when i was a school nurse. i never accept the kids until those are fulfilled or there's a note from the doctor or if i assess them and they pass. i hope you all feel better. you know the drill, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate--rest, rest, rest, and BRAT diet when they're not puking anymore.

Hmmm - I wonder if that is what is going on here. Caitlin has been cranky, fingers in her mouth, wanting her pacifier, not sleeping well. I really thought that her ped told me that all the molars were in at her 2 year check up, but maybe it was just the first set.

I also think that her sleep is messed up right now becasue my crazy kid does not want to wet her diaper. She actually woke up dry this morning:eek:but said that she needed to go 3 times last night between 8 and 9pm. She is also doing some stalling before bed and wants us to sing song after song.

Eliezrah - I hope that you all are feeling better and that the bug didn't put you into labor.;)

I think that we might take the kids to see the VeggieTales Pirate movie this weekend. Neither kiddo has been to the theatre yet and DH and I were fighting over who got to take Aidan for the first time. We decided that we should try to all go together and if Caitlin gets figetty we can take her out to walk around. I think that I will also pack a sucker which can buy us 15-20 minutes.:D

Today is MUCH better. I *heart* Motrin and baby tylenol! LOL! :D

mcl Border's by my house didnt have the book so i just ordered it on Amazon. Should be here by Tuesday - gotta love that free super saver (slower than Moses) shipping! :p

Lisa I sure hope you get some sleep soon. CJ did the same thing right before I had Camryn! MAN did that make for one cranky preggo! LOL! :D

Alison CJ was doing the exact same thing - fingers in his mouth, not sleeping, being cranky. I made him say "AHHHHHHH" and i saw white caps behind his molars and knew what the issue was. Fun times!

O, cranky pregger? I have no clue what you're talking about! LOL He's sleeping A BIT better now..... Still exhausted, though, since I'm getting contractions in the middle of the night which wake me... No labor, though, it's only a few... just enough to keep me up and then they stop!

ETA: it's official, Seth's going to school 2 full days next year... Registration is signed and at the school! OMG!!! And he's only going ot be my baby for another 21 days.... :(

Just checking in...things are going well here. Courtney is really funny lately, we watch deal or no deal a lot, she went up to her daycare teacher and told her "No Deal. Open the case". She's a busy little bee, and it's funny to see her little legs move so fast. She's working through a cold now...can't seem to stay healthy. They also had a case of headlice at daycare, but it was in the infant room. I don't think she'll get it.

I'm doing good...scheduled a csection for March 21, so 8 more weeks until the little arrives. Scary!

Not to scare you solongtogo about having two kids but...

Zach & I had a rough day yesterday. Nearly 6 weeks of disrupted sleep (DD born 12/15) is taking its toll on me. My mom happened to call in the middle of the melt down and offered to take Zach for part of the day today. It has been so peaceful here. Zach's a great kid. He's just bored because we're cooped up and it's difficult to get out in the cold with both of them. Thankfully tomorrow is Saturday.

O, it's a private Hebrew Day School that is open for ages 2 through 8th grade. My kids are only going there for nursery/ pre school and then public school starting kindergarten. Seth will go into the 3s room in Sept. Our cut off was changed from Oct 1 to Oct 31, but he made the cut off even before they changed it, by a day!

solong, OMG that's too cute!

Sandie, it gets easier, I promise!

Alex still doesn't STTN every night but he's finally down to most nights. If it makes you feel any better Sabrina sleeps very well--almost never less than a 4 hour stretch--often 5 or 6. So hopefully#2 will not follow in #1's footsteps for you.

Solongtogo - not bragging, just giving you hope - all THREE of mine STTN and have since they were very small. I have the twins in the same room and still manage to get them both down around 9:00 and they don't wake until 8:00. There is hope!

I must admit that two is MUCH harder than one but the first 6-7 weeks were the worst! It has gotten better and dd is only 10 weeks old... At the 6 week point i was going to loose it - dd wasnt sleeping, ds wasnt sleeping, dh was oblivious and i was EXHAUSTED... now its much better! I don't want to jinx myself though :D

two was hard--especially since #2 slept like sh*t and still does to some extent. Thankfully DS1 was usually pretty easy to get to bed and listened fairly well (at that time) so it was more of an adjustment than a struggle. The worst thing for me was we had extenuating circumstances when #2 was born that led to me not being able to nap or anything during the day so I was so exhausted between that and him not sleeping. However 2 wasn't that bad most of the time. 3--well there were times I didn't know who to deal with first--the 4 year old screaming, the 2 year old throwing things or the baby crying....

hee hee solong! I said the same thing when I was pregnant with Cailtin - I felt like I certainly deserved a better sleeper with #2 and I got her (says the mom of a 4 yo who still does not sleep thru the night most nights.)

Eliezrah - I saw your belly and family pictures in that thread - you look wonderful and your family is so beautiful!

Sandie - Hope things are going better - it is so hard in the beggining especially in the winter!

We are doing well. We went to the movies Saturday and had a ball! Caitlin sat thru the whole thing and kept commenting on the size of the "tv". She did OD on popcorn and had an upset tummy Sunday morning.

I just wanted to say that I am lucky if Hunter sleeps past 11pm in his own bed! HE told me the other day that he doesn't like his room, but I think he was fibbing b/c he loves to play in his room, just not sleep in it!
Has anyone seen those canopies that go over the bed for boys? I'm thinking he might like that. Also thinking of painting his room his fav color-orange, but not sure how good that will look. He might never sleep! We are also thinking of painting a mural of dirt bikes and 4 wheelers..his fav.

Ha anyone watched Wonder Pets on Noggin? Hunter LOVES that show and I don't mind it either-very creative and educational. H sings the whole song about teamwork. When we get him dressed or if he helps me out w/ dinner I tell him it is teamwork.

randysmandy - Yes - Aimee LOVES the wonderpets. She also goes around singing the song all day long. She has some "my little ponies" and they are always getting "stuck on the roof" and the other ponies are saving him. The first time I saw the animation on the show I thought it was ridiculous, but it really does have a good message. We saw a woman in a wheelchair the other day and Aimee seemed scared. So I said, remember when the wonderpets made the wheelchair for the granpa bullfrog? Well, that is just like this wheelchair. She thought that was great and then was looking at the person like they were really cool instead of being scared.

All is good around our house. My birthday was yesterday and the twins birthday is tomorrow. The cakes and cards are very plentiful around here!

Hey everyone -- It's my first post in this new thread, thanks for getting it started. I don't post as often as I'd like but I will try to stay somewhat caught up.

The details:
CC Name: PrincessCrappy
Real Name: Carrie
Dh's Name:
DS/DD Name: Griffin

This was a really big week for us in our family. It started with a call from our first choice preschool --- we got in!! Preschools are super competitive in our area (ridiculous, I know) and I didn't think we had a chance in hell to get into this school. We didn't get the time we wanted but I'll certainly work with what they gave us.

Second, Griffin has learned how to jump out of his crib -- and continue to do so for 2 hours straight at nap and bedtime. I'm beyond frustrated. I don't know how to get him to understand that he needs to at least stay in his room for quiet time. He's also started with nightwakings and super early visits to mom & dad's room in the morning. Any advice?

In an attempt to help with the crib jumping, we bought him a big boy bed today. It's got a twin bunk on top and a full bed on the bottom. He picked out this bedding:
http://www.olivekids.com/products/dr-hero.jpg
which hopefully won't look so bright once we see it in person. Everything should be delivered by the end of the week. I'd love any advice you can share about transitioning to the big kid bed. I was hoping he'd stay in his crib forever...

However, in addition to the crib jumping, we have another need for his crib....I got a BFP on Friday morning!! We weren't even trying -- although we obviously weren't "not" trying, either. I'm only like 3.5 week pg so far, so any sticky vibes you can send my way would be greatly appreciated! I've already puked twice since the BFP, apparently my all day sickness I had with Griffin will continue into this pregnancy. Small sacrifices for a big reward -- or so I'm trying to convince myself!

Sorry this is so long but I had lots to share. I'm looking forward to learning more about you October Moms and of course hearing from my September girls!

Princess - Congratulations! Happy and healthy 9 months to you!

godsgift - So sorry to hear that CJ is battling both a cold and teething. What a rotten combination. :(

Alison - What great family pictures! You have such adorable kids.

We started to take DS to gymnastics class and he seems to enjoy it. It really doesn't seem like gymnastics, but more like run around and jump and play on the mats.

Checking in. I got a BFP last week, and have an u/s scheduled for today to date the pregnancy. I'm thinking I'm due early-mid October.

Carrie - How fun that we got to plan our weddings together, we are now on the Sept/Oct moms thread together, and now expecting #2 in the same time frame. If only you hadn't moved away... If Griffin isn't quite ready for a big boy bed, i.e. you try it and he doesn't stay in it, either, you could try a crib tent for awhile. Though, I know you are going to need the crib in nine months. Give or take.:)

Operation panty has been a huge success...she had a totally dry week at school last week, one accident at home last week, totally dry this weekend (with outings and all) and totally dry this week so far. She isn't wearing a pull up at school during nap time but I am not brave enough to do that at home - she does stay dry at nap time though...I may bite the bullet this weekend. She is still in diapers at night.

I am glad I waited - I felt so behind the curve ball with most of the girls at her school in panties...this really has been too easy - I am waiting for the newness to wear off.

welcome Tulip - congrats on baby #2.

cr8zy - Yeah, that is awesome. I bet that she has it now and I would be surprised if she went back.

eliezrah - I will be thinking great thoughts for you and your family Friday morning - can't wait to hear that everything went smoothly!!!

mcl - http://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/T106600.asp

I really like this website for all kinds of kid related stuff, but the potty training info is good. If it makes you feel better, I didn't even start with my DS until more like 2.75 and he didn't really get it until closer to his 3rd b-day. As you get closer to your due date and it still isn't happening, I would lay off until the transition with the new baby is less new.

pting - Yup, Caitlin is 100% dry, even at night (DS still wears a pull up!) She went 13 hours the other day!!! It is such a shock to me - she isn't even in a hurry when she wakes up in the morning to go.

PT--haven't really tried with Alex but he has asked a few times to use the potty and has peed and pooped when he has asked. I think once spring is here and things hopefully settle down with Sabrina (can we say high-needs baby anyone?) we'll start in earnest. It helps he idolizes his big brother and wants to use the potty like Colin. ;)

PT - Aimee shows no signs at all. Every once in a while she will want to go in to the potty, but it really is to just play and flush. She has only peed on the potty once and I think that was a fluke. I was really hoping she would at least be showing interest by now. I'm thinking of trying Cr8zyforaf's idea, but we'll see.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's having trouble with potty training. We started trying to potty train when Fletcher turned 2 but so far he's gone pee in the potty only once and that was at the babysitter's. He's never gone for me. He still wakes up most morning with a heavy, heavy diaper so I'm figuring he's just not physically ready yet.

hmbay
02-20-2008, 11:21 AM
PT--If they're ready at two go for it but I just wanted to say my oldest wasn't PT'd until right before he turned 4. He just flat out refused to be. It was a powerstruggle more than anything else with him but it still took until he was almost 4 (his powerstruggle now is eating and bedtime). Because of that I'm really not pushing Alex yet. He will be trained sooner than Colin--I know that because he's more interested in it but I'm also not rushing it either after just getting done fighting with the other one.

Stop stalking me.:p

PTing - DS is so not ready. We talked about it, bought trainers, sat him on the potty, had him go to the potty at school. Nope, kid doesn't get it. I've been putting him in plain old fashioned cloth diapers at home, so he can feel the wetness on his skin - he doesn't care. We have a few trips coming up this spring/early summer, and I'd rather have him in diapers. I think it's better than going to the potty every 30 minutes - especially when we can get arrested for getting out of our seats at our local airport. With the new baby coming this fall, we'll press on during the summer. Also, less layers to worry about taking off.

The morning of the Bris, Scott found out he had a touch of the flu and strep and that night, my temp jumped way up since my incision was infected. Besides all of that, we had a snow storm so no one but my parents and our neighbors were able to come to the Bris. We are all recovered from being sick now and I'm recovering nicely (now) from the C/S. Aaron is 2 weeks old today and has his WBV this afternoon.

randysmandy - congrats!!! Guess what - we may be having baby #2 around the same time. I am due end of October/beginning of November. We also haven't told anyone just yet as I had a miscarriage in October....but we probably won't be able to hide it for long..I am sick as a dog (which is a good thing).

Eliezrah - Oh yes, he is so adorable (and so are sis and bro.):)

cr8zy and randysmandy - Huge CONGRATS to both of you! I hope that you both have easy, wonderful pregnancies.

We are doing well. Both kids are getting over a bug and Caitlin is in a phase that is, well difficult. Her being sick is only making it worse. She freaks if you cut her food - DH didn't know this and so he cut her turkey tonight and she lost her mind. She then tried to grab the whole thing in her hand and put it back together - all the while yelling and crying. Oy vey - is it time for her to go to school?:D

But she also does this funny thing now too. She talks in the form of questions - everything she says ends with "Yes or No?" Like "Mommy can I have more milk please, Yes or No?" "Mommy, is daddy home for dinner, Yes or No?"

Congrats to all the recent BFPs!! I'm among them, due on 9/17. First trimester expires this week (phew). Morning sickness is much more severe when you've got poopy diapers to change! :rolleyes:

eliezrah--congratulations! Lots of photos. Is there any way you can post links to the photos? They're very large and numerous. My boss just asked me what all the baby photos were?:eek: It would be easier to look at them at a later time. Besides that, it tends to slow down peoples' computers if they're on DSL/dialup.

I'm just going to dive right in :-)

I am currently working on a new room for Jack (he is still in a crib). This is what has been done so far:

Paint (http://disney.go.com/disneyhome/disneypaints.html): Dandilion for Roo (very light yellow)

Bed (http://www.woodcrestmfg.com/3100.jpg)(we purchased the bunk beds that can also be individual beds & the nightstand)

Quilt - I think I'm going to get two quilts and so far I like this red with stars (http://www.potterybarnkids.com/pkimgs/rk/images/products/200810/0011/img16m.jpg)and this striped one (http://www.potterybarnkids.com/pkimgs/rk/images/products/200810/0011/img62m.jpg)with the red trim.

My whole point with getting the quilts without a major "theme" is so I can get all kinds of transportation themed sheets and mix and match them. I hope to get 2-3 sets of sheets so I don't have to stress out about laundry. I'm werid that way and do the same thing with our own bed. **dork alert**

Wall Decoration - I've started with these (http://images.landofnod.com/is/image/LandOfNod/1701330_VintageMetalSign?$fp$)and I am working on some others and maybe some shelving items, but I haven't found much that thrills me yet.

Toy Storage - I went with these (http://images.landofnod.com/is/image/LandOfNod/3201082_StoragePalooza_07W1?$fp$)from The Land of Nod in the red and blue just as shown in the picture.

I hope to have the whole room put together by the time the bed arrives which is probably the first week in April. I don't want Jack to see it until its all done; I think he is going to be super excited. He LOVES his crib so I want to really try and impress him with the new room. When we were shopping for beds I asked him if he liked the new beds and he replied with a very enthusiastic YES, then I asked if he wanted a new bed and he replied again very enthusiastically NO. I think Boy #2 will be in the PNP for a little while which is no big deal to us :-)

Anyway, I look forward to keeping up with you guys and seeing how your little toddlers are doing; it seems like yesterday that we were having the little ones!

ETA: I forgot to post a pic of Jack

His 2 year pic
http://media3.dropshots.com/photos/94885/20071026/175638.jpg

And one a little more recent (he found the mega saucer and HAD to play in it; it was quite silly). He was being very serious showing me the pictures of his cars; he's usually quite a ham so the serious face is pretty funny.

OMG big freak out at Mommy & Me today with Seth! At snack time, all the moms but 1 are allowed to leave the room to get the kids used to us not being there (there always needs to be at least 1 mom with the teacher). Anyway, all the moms and the teacher know about Seth's allergies except for the 2 new ones. One of the moms was handing out cheese crackers and confirmed with me that he's allergic but could have the Ritz. I told her that's correct plus I had some crackers for him in my bag, then I stepped outside (and he let me for once!). One of the new moms came out and asked me if he could have the cheese crackers and I said no since he's allergic. She said good since she didn't give him any when he asked for more crackers. I thought nothing of it until I walked back inside and saw a napkin full of cheese crackers right in front of him!I asked him if he ate any and he said yes, all 3 times I asked him! I told him he's allergic and they have milk and my poor baby looked TERRIFIED! (We've drilled it into him that he's very allergic to milk and if he has any, he might have to go to the hospital so I guess he was afraid of getting very sick). He jumped into my arms and I never saw any child so terrified before and that broke my heart. The mom who asked about the crackers earlier asked me if he's lactose intolerant... no, he's anaphylactic, he can die if he ingests too much milk! (I'm thinking she did give him the crackers and didn't want to tell me what she did). I gave him some Benadryl and he seemed fine. He was coughing a bit so I took him to see the nurse who checked his throat and he was fine. He passed out in the car and is still sleeping.

Here's the e-mail I just sent to his teacher (who's also the director of the early childhood center) I also wanted to make sure you got my message that Seth is ok. I’m not sure how many crackers he ate, but the fact that it’s processed milk and he probably didn’t have too much and I gave him the Benadryl right away seemed to have stopped any reaction he might have had. I am a bit nervous about stepping out at snack time again, though. I’m thrilled he let me and didn’t cry, but how should we handle this going forward so it won’t happen again? This is also one of my biggest fears about him going to school in September since I won‘t be there to notice the crackers in front of him.

OMG Lisa - I can't believe they told you he didnt have any!! I'd be furious! It'd be one thing if it was a mistake and fessed up, but knowing how serious allergy reactions can be (how could she not know this) and then lie about it! I don't think I'd leave during snack time again either.

okay, i thought that i posted here but i apparently didn't mention that i had an accident at target last monday--i slipped on water. anyhow, baby and i are both okay but i sprained my left foot really bad. it's improved since then but i was so afraid to have a toddler, a newborn, recovering from delivery, and not being able to walk.

at my appt. on tuesday, i'm 3 cm dilated. i'm going to do some walking today and maybe bring up to dh what i've avoided the last few weeks--sex!:eek:

mcl, glad you're both ok! Heal fast!

Lisa, good to see you again!!! Congrats!

I saw the director this morning and she admitted it was her responsibility and was so sorry. She won't be serving the cheese crackers anymore, especially since there are other things there he can eat. I'm not going to not leave since it's not fair to me and not good for Seth for me to always be there, plus he'll be in school w/o me in September.

MCL Oh my gosh, I can't believe all you are dealing with. I hope you heal up soon and at the very least don't have to use a cane before #2 arrives. Maybe though the loss of baby weight will help with the walking once #2 arrives.

Lisa Wow, that is so scary about Seth. Do the docs think he will outgrow most of the food allergies? I was reading some random article today that said most kids outgrow the allergies by age 5 or so, is Seth in that category potentially?

solong - you are getting so close - is March 21 your due date or c section date?

mcl - oh you poor thing - I hope that your foot heals quickly and you have an easy delivery.

eliezrah - oh my goodness, how scary. I am so glad that Seth was ok and tha the director realizes it was her fault. How is life with 3 kiddos?

lvella - Jack is adorable and his room is going to look great, cute theme!

We are doing OK - trying to get over another bug. It has been a rough 3 weeks and we seem to just be passing things around. DH and DS are finally feeling better, but Caitlin is coughing so hard that she vomits. We also got like 8 inches of snow so we can't even get out for a walk.

happy weekend!

Late Talkers Are there any late talking kids in this group?

MizLarner
03-15-2008, 09:39 PM
Adam is a slow talker. He has very few full sentences. The extent of his sentences is "want/need/give it" and "bye ________"

He is not very understandable when he speaks, unless you just know what he's saying. Fortunately, we've been doing sign with Signing Time and it's helped him communicate more. His newest is to sign fish while saying Nemo.. over.. and over.. and over again!

1_mommy
03-16-2008, 12:14 AM
Kai's language has just started to expand. It is still hard to understand alot of his words, and we ask him to repeat himself alot. he used to never repeat words if we asked him to repeat them, and now he tries to give it a shot. but this has all just started happening in maybe the last 3 or weeks

Lvella43
03-16-2008, 07:13 AM
Thanks for the input so far. I guess I'm not super worried that something is *wrong* with Jack. He doesn't have any symptoms, that I can tell, of something more serious. I think he just doesn't want to talk

Its so easy to get myself all worked up when I'm reading articles and such on late talkers, but the frustrating thing is that there doesn't seem to be much research about late talking and signing. We have done Signing Time with Jack since he was about 9 months old and he can sign over 100 things so he can communicate. I do feel at this point the signing might be holding him back a bit and he just doesn't want to talk. Sometimes he will attempt to repeat things we say, but my favorite is when we ask him "Jack can you say XXX" and he'll answer "Yes." Like he's a teenager! Its sorta funny and sorta not at the same time. He does say Yes, No, Uh-oh, Oh-no and periodically he'll answer the phone and say hello. That is about it though verbally. His comprehension and ability to follow a series of instructions (up to 4 or so things) is perfectly fine.

AlisonCO
03-16-2008, 02:29 PM
mcl - Oh I hope that you are holding your beautiful baby boy and that things went well!

Lvella - I think that I have read things about the correlation between signing early and talking later - hmmm. I bet becasue he has so many signs, that he doesn't feel the pressing need to talk plus maybe he doesn't feel as frustrated becasue he does have a way to communicate. My son had a bunch of signs too when he was younger and then all of a sudden he had a huge language explosion - I don't remember when it was, but he went from single words to complete sentences. It will be interesting to see if there is a difference with your second - Caitlin talked early and was speaking in full sentences by 20 months but it is becasue of DS - she just listened and saw him talking and thought that is what you do. She had a few signs but I think that she just thought that she should talk.

Eliezrah

Seth was up from 12:30 - 3:30 am this morning throwing up. He also had diarrhea before that. I can't tel you how pissed off I am that whoever gave him the crackers never copped to it and said she was sorry. She put my child in danger and didn't own up to it! I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but own up to it, bitch! Sorry, I'm just so mad that my poor baby has been going through so much pain and discomfort the past 4 days and that he had to come home 3 days early from his weekend away with his grandparents because of someone's stupidity!

I've been doing research and there is something called Delayed Hypersensitivity which is an allergic reaction that doesn't show up until 24-72 hours after coming in contact with the allergen. I actually have a feeling of Deja Vu so I think this has happened once before about 1 1/2 years ago when we first found out about his allergies.

The scary thing is that he probably only had a few cheese crackers (there was still a big pile in front of him when I saw them so I'm assuming this) and look at what his poor body is going through. Can you imagine if he had a whole bunch and can you see why we have to avoid anything with any dairy at all? Dairy can kill my child and I'm scared!

~~~~
Alison, life w/ 3 is hectic but great, thanks!
MCL hope you have that new sweet baby in your arms now!
I think that I have read things about the correlation between signing early and talking later - hmmm.
Eh, not true in our case. DS signed quite a bit before he began talking, but he started within a normal time frame and is a chatterbox now.
I'm sure that Jack will be fine. And, physically, he's more advanced than my DS.
cross posted from LJ
Like most of you, we're considering preschool options for DS this fall. The one we prefer requires children to be 3 by August, so that one's out until 2009. Our next choice has options of 2-5 days per week, half or full day. Right now we're leaning towards 2 or 3 days/week full-day and DS will return to his regular in-home daycare the remainder of the week.
What are you doing and why? I know a lot of people opt for half days and I'm curious as to why. For our work schedules, it isn't really an option for us. Do you feel a full day is too much for your child? Is it cost related? I'm eager to hear how you all are approaching this subject.
MizLarner
03-17-2008, 02:48 PM
We're not doing preschool. I don't feel like it's anymore than what I can do for DS at home. Sure, there's the socialization factor, but that's not even a concern for me.
As for full/half day.. I teach pre-k full day and I think that's probably more than 4 year old kids need. The closer my class has gotten to 5 years, the better they have been doing with it. So with 3 year olds, I definitely say half day is plenty of focused activities.
If we were planning to do something besides homeschooling, I doubt I would go with a full day unless I just didn't have anyone (family) to watch them the rest of the day before I got off work. Just me.
Eliezrah
We're doing 2 full days for Seth but really wanted 3 half days. The thing is the half day program at the school he's going to (where DD goes now) is only 2 1/2 hours and it's about 20 mins away. By the time I'd drop the kids off and get home, I'd have less than 2 hours before having to leave again to get them, which leaves me no time with the baby. They do have an extended lunch option which is an extra hour but paying the $7 per child per day for it for both kids would cost us about the same or a bit more than doing half days for both of them (she's going 3 full days). Because of the distance, both kids are going the same length of time each day.
We're not doing ps for Alex but will for Colin this fall (he's 4 and will turn 5 in November). We're doing 3 days 8:30-11:45. We have a 2 day option for Alex but are skipping it.
mcl - I hope you had an uneventful labor!!
DD is enrolled in full-time daycare/preschool. They follow a pretty strict curriculum based on her age..she will move up to the 3 room after summer camp (they call it summer camp because they tend to be more relaxed about learning during the summer months). I am not really worried about full days - she has been in daycare since she was 3 months old....which makes me sad..but we both have to work.
Eliezrah So sorry to hear about everything with Seth--I have never heard of that delayed reaction and am glad to know now. Is he feeling better? You can vent as loudly as you want to us--that's why we are here!
mcl VERY EXCITING!!!!!!!
talking My friend's child did not speak one word until he was 4
My son also did Signing like Alison's and he began a word explosion as well. Try "Baby Einstein Baby's First Signs" and I know they just came out with a new one called Baby's First Words or Sounds (not sure). Again-there was nothing wrong with my friend's child. You can say they are stubborn or maybe he gets what he wants by pointing or making noises? I'm not saying he does that, but maybe?
talking--oh forgot to chime in on this. Alex was barely talking at his 2 year WBV. I was concerned but the ped said as long as he understood to not worry about it--that he'd decide to talk when he was ready and then about a month ago just like 1_mommy's DS he just started babbling away. Before if you tried to get him to tal
