Hi ladies,
In shopping for diaper bags, I've noticed there are range of sizes and styles. That got me thinking.....besides the obvious (diapers/wipes) what goes in the diaper bag? What size is best for a new infant? How many bags do you really need? Does DH need one too?

If it helps, I'll be a SAHM and hope to breastfeed.

Thank you for your help.

Allison

Not a lot.

I have 2 babies and 1 diaper bag. I keep:

Diapers for both babies
Wipes
1 extra set of clothes for both babies
Snacks for my DS (puffs/a jar of applesauce/ect)
1 or 2 small toys
Bottles (milk for my DS & formula for my DD)
1 or 2 extra single servings of formula (just in case)

I originally bought 2 diaper bags (1 for DH) but have only used the one since my DS was born. Luckily it's big enough for both babies, so when my DD was born I didn't have to buy a bigger one!

I have 2 kids and 1 bag, too.

2 diapers and wetbag
wipes
shirt for DS, one-piece thing for DD
2 bottles
formula container
snacks for DS
sippy cup
2-3 small toys
burp cloths
my stuff - cell phone, wallet, keys, chapstick

I tend to keep more in the car - extra diapers, blanket, stuff like that. I have two diaper bags, but not because I need them. Sometimes I feel like carrying my rough and tumble Skip Hop Duo and sometimes I want my pretty Petunia Picklebottom.

Too much stuff :) I carry way more than most people, and probably more than I need. But I'm OCD about it, and can't imagine packing less. Keep in mind I do have twins, but still....

-6 or 8 diapers
-wipes
-diaper rash cream
-tylonal
-gas drops
-extra burp rags
-extra bibs
-socks
-onsies and/or outfits
-bottles prefilled with formula powder
-bottle of water
-a few toys

and my keys, wallet, and cell are in there somewhere. And the changing pad.

ETA: I really should do like Karla and just keep extra stuff in the car. Sometimes I take less if we won't be gone long, but most of the time I like to have it fully stocked just in case.

I'm a SAHM who breastfeeds and I gave up on the diaper bag month ago. The only time I use it is if we're going to be out all day long. Otherwise I put a diaper and a container of travel wipes in my purse. I have random toys in the car already and a blanket.

I have an almost three year old and an eight month old. I also breastfeed.

What I have in my bag:

Wipes
2-3 extra diapers for each (No the older one isn't potty trained yet, we are working on it!)
An extra outfit for each
A disposable changing pad cover (incontinence bed pads)
Extra binky
Snacks

What I keep in the car:

Extra blanket
Extra diapers
Another extra outfit
Another package of wipes

I usually leave my bag in the car and just do changes in the car. I rarely take my diaper bag in anywhere.

4 or 5 burp cloths
lap pad

two blankets; one heavy, one light
two pacifiers
bottle vent brush
baby spoon

diapers
wipes
gas drops
diaper cream
disposable washcloth
baby comb
pacifier holder

DD is almost a year. I have a SkipHop Dash as my primary bag. I cloth diaper and breastfeed. I am a WOHM, but my mom has her own bag that she keeps at her house.

When we go for quick things, the bag stays in the car. I'm not going to change her in Target anyway, so there is no need to take the bag in. Same for most other places.

3-4 BumGenius/Bummis small wetbag
The changing pad fits on a pocket on the back
Wipes
3 binkies
Small diaper cream
Baby tylenol (used to keep gas drops)
Extra outfit, onsie, and socks
Bib
Jar of baby chicken and baby veggies
Spoon
Vinyl Mat for restaurants

In the outside pockets (there are 4) I have
Container of sweet potato puffs
Receiving blanket
Sippy Cup
And one empty pocket that I put the strap in when I hook the bag to the stroller.

I love my bag dearly and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I have a few diaper bags, but usually use the same one and it usually stays in the car. It has:
diapers
wipes
changing pad
diaper cream
plastic baggies for stinky diapers
extra blanket
burp cloth
bib
extra change of cloths
3 bottles
three compartment formula container
my stuff
1-2 random toys

When I go into a store I usually only bring this changing pad container that holds a small container of wipes, 1 diaper, 1 onsie. It looks something like this:

If she is hungry or may be soon I bring in a bottle.
And if she is going to the drs. I always bring an extra blanket and a shirt for me in case she pees when they make her get naked.

oh and the diaper bag that goes to MIL during the day usually has only her changes of clothes (usually 2 outfits), 1 bottle goes back and forth in case there is traffic either way, 1 washcloth, 1 burp cloth, 1 bib and extra blanket.
And her lovey. I stock everything else there.

A lot of the time when I go places I just put DD in a Moby, stick a bottle in with her (in the folds somewhere) and leave the diaper bag in the car.

I have 2 1/2 month old twin girls and a 16 month old son. I have 3 bags actually: 2 diaper bags from the hospital (1 is for DS and the other for the twins, should not all the kids go out together: doctor or with grandma) and a backpack diaper bag for all 3 kids to use, which has the following:

two onesies for the twins
pair of socks for all 3 (only if we are going out for an all day trip mostly)
extra outfits for all (only if we are going out all day)
pj's (only if going out all day and expect to get in late)
2 bibs
4 burp cloths
Changing pad station (hold the wipes and several diapers (3 sizes we use, soon to only 2 sizes)
two receiving blankets
three pacifiers
baby spoon
diapers (extras of all sizes, the changing station holds 2 of each size)
wipes (in the changing station)
pacifier holders
hand sanitizer
plastic bags to store soiled clothing in or poop diapers
Tylenol
Orajel
baby food jars for Easton in case
snacks for Easton
Can of formula (backup)
2 formula compartment containers
extra empty bottles
thermometer
coupons
headache medicine for me or DH
mini calendar for different things I have to do or schedule
my wallet and cell phone

i got a smaller bag (skip hop dash) and a bigger one (skip hop double duo). i was in love with the double duo, plus i figured it would be an "overnight" bag.

also got DH a diaper dude. he doesn't *need* one but he liked it and likes having a "manly" one to carry. he's kind of proud of it.

for when i was home on maternity leave, the dash or the diaper dude was perfect size. i could fit a couple diapers, an extra outfit and the couple other things i needed.

i am using the double duo, which is GREAT for daycare, because i have to take several diapers and a couple outfits, etc.

if i were a SAHM breastfeeding mom, i think something like the diaper dude would be perfect (the dash is a bit too small and i just don't like it...it's not that functional...the outer pockets don't zip, the whole thing doesn't zip).

Thank you for all of the great responses.

Littlecindy, I love the Skip Hop bags. They are definitely on my list. Thanks again.

I've got:

- diapers
- wipes
- an extra outfit (or 2 sometimes)
- 2-3 small toys
- diaper rash cream
- a clean paci
- a bib
- a thermometer
- snacks for DS (usually Gerber puffs)

I also always bring a small cooler with me with DS's lunch (or dinner) - depending on what time of the day we leave the house.

I have a 2.5 year old and a one month old. I breastfeed and SAH. In my bag I have:

for DS (one month)
4 diapers
travel wipes
disposable changing mat
extra outfit/socks
burp cloth
thin blanket that folds up really small so I can use it to cover up if needed while bfing

for DD (2.5 & mostly potty trained)
her stuff is kept in a small, zippered wristlet so I can take it out easily and leave it with her at church, MDO, etc
1 pull up
1 pair panties
change of clothes-pants/shirt
comb
hairclip/rubberband

for me
phone
wallet
lipstick, chapstick, powder
travel lotion
travel pack of wet ones
antibacterial gel
breast pads

I have quite a few bags and I don't really love any of them! I've recently decided that I'm going to buy a small purse that will fit in my diaper bag so I can have my stuff separate and easy to take out if I'm running into the store while DH waits in the car with the kids, so I have a bag to keep my stuff in after I drop both kids off at the church nursery, etc.
