I need to order the Summer Infant Sure & Secure Super Wide Custom Fit Gate. None of the Walmart's I have been to carry it. Well, to have it shipped to my house in $39, I really want to avoid paying that much. They have the option of having it shipped to your local store for free, but before I do that, I wanted to see if anyone has had experience with it.
Thanks so much!!

My mom has done it quite a few times. She never received the e-mail from Wal-Mart.com saying her item was at the store; she had to check at the store herself to see if it was in, which it was. That was a *bit* of a hassle, but not a huge deal. I'd go for it to save the shipping cost.
My FIL sent my boys' Christmas gift (one of those crazy kiddie 4-wheelers) using Site-to-Store. It arrived a week after he ordered it; DH just had to print out the email with his name on it and took it down there. He was surprised at how easy it was to do the pick-up (we'd heard horror stories) considering it was a week before Christmas.
It saved $100 in shipping, so it was definitely worth it. :)

I ordered a dresser and it came in about a week and a half later. I received the e-mail letting me know it's ready for pick-up without any problems. I would definitely use the service again since it saved me tons of money on shipping.

I did it on Black Friday and had an awesome experience...though I normally don't shop at Walmart, the deal was too much to resist:)
I have slight panic attacks in walmart (I'm being serious), so I thought it was lovely just going to the back of the store, getting my order done (no line) and walking out.

I did it before. It was a bit of a hassle. I had to wait forever for someone to help me. And then I did receive the email confirmation but printed it with low ink and it wouldn't scan for the lady and she was so annoyed that she had to *gasp* type it in. Then she accused me of having a copy of it but even if I did, so what? I had my ID. geesh. I expected more problems with it being Walmart but it wasn't that bad. Even with the bit of a hassle, it was worth it not to pay shipping.

I used it for a patio set. Worked smoothly, saved a ton in shipping.

I used this option for one of DH Christmas gifts and saved $40 on shipping! It was a bit of a hassle getting someone to the back of the store to help me, but once they got their the transaction was super smooth and quick. I would definitely use Site to Store again.

As the guy (girl) who has to go back to do the site-to-store orders my advice is start out at the front at the registers area and find a customer service manager and ask them to come with you to STS location. The biggest problem with STS from CSM point of view is the button one pushes to get help for STS is it gets pushed by every kid and obnoxious teenager who goes back to that area (Usually near a bathroom)

Me too - I hate Walmart, and am a regular Target shopper. But you really can't go wrong with the site-to-store option w/ Walmart. I did a TON of christmas shopping this way!

We did a ton of Christmas shopping this year this way and it was really easy. Once we got the email, we printed it and went into the store and they had the item waiting for us. Worth it for us since we are only 5 minutes from our closest store and DD and I are in there at least twice a month purchasing organic food.

My wal mart must suck.
We did STS for a bunch of baby items that they didn't stock in the store. It was a changing pad, cover, and car-seat carrier cover.
It took nearly 2 hours. No kidding. We printed the email and took it up there. The person in front of us was doing STS too, and they couldn't find all their items. We waited an hour for that. Then they got to us and couldn't find all of our stuff too. They had to open every single box to see what was in it.
We saved on shipping and would do it again for $$ reasons alone but it wasn't pleasant actually getting the items.

HisDaffodil, with the STS option, your items are sent from the warehouse (with your name on it) to the store. It doesn't matter if the store carries it or not because it is shipped to the store- its not that they pick it from the store's stock and save it for you.
I did STS when we ordered our deep freezer. It definitely saved us a lot on shipping costs, and was not all that inconvenient. We did have to wait about 30 minutes for them to locate the freezer. As it turns out, they had it in the container still which was being unloaded.

I used this as well and it was super easy and convenient. I wish Target had the option!

I used STS over Christmas to order a large dollhouse for DD that our Wal-Mart didn't keep in stock. I had the same problems some PPs mentioned- never getting the email that my item arrived. I just started calling routinely after I knew the item had been shipped (which was a little annoying) and then also had to wait in the store for an employee to help us, then actually find the item. So while it was a minor hassle, I'd still do it again to get the sale price of the item plus the free shipping!

Do they guarantee a certain turnaround time?

I have not received an email yet, but walmart.com says it should be here between tomorrow & 1/16.
Lydia-I was quoted 7-10 days which I believe is their usual time frame. Not counting Saturdays & Sundays, it will fall within the 7-10 days.
Thanks everyone for your replies! Hopefully my store experience won't be as bad as some of you have posted. I will let you know.

I'm in exactly the same position waiting for an item STS from Walmart. I'll post how my experience goes, too. It's been very helpful reading everyone else's responses - thank you!

If you're waiting for your shipment, you might start calling at 8 days or so. I never received my email so it sat there for several unnecessary days.

My pickup went smoothly, but it took a loooong time to get someone to help me. I'd still recommend it, however. The item wasn't carried by any Walmarts around me and I'm glad to have it, especially with free shipping.

I received my email Tuesday evening and went to pick my item up yesterday. While it did take a while to get someone to help me, it was well worth it not having to pay shipping.
I would definitely do it again.
Thanks everyone!!
