What have you done recently, or are doing, that you'd rather not? But you have to, 'cause that's how "responsible adults" act?

DH and I are dog people. We'd LOVE to have a dog. Friend recently rescued dog, dog has 12 adorable puppies. We'd love to adopt...but have 3 kids under 3 at home and it would not be the responsible thing to do. SO we won't.

AND I want to go home today and do nothing, but instead I'm here at work (um, doing not much) because the 31st isn't a holiday.

I'm sitting in my office, waiting for some clients to come in and set up a trust.

I was only supposed to come in for a quickie set of donations at 10 am. I had a voicemail and, I originally wasn't going to check it, but I did. It turned out to be a big client of the senior partner's who said he "guessed he needed to come in and set everything up today." So, yeah, we're closed but I'm taking last-minute clients because I'm a conscientious nerd.

At least my boss is being generous and giving my secretary and I the day off on Wednesday, since we've worked two half-days over the Christmas break.

I'm reminded of being an adult each month while paying the mortgages.

I was sick as a dog all last week but I came into the office on Friday morning at 6:30am to do payroll even though my boss could have handeled it...ick!

Ditto. That is exactly what I was going to say.

Not being able to play Gears of War on Xbox360 all night long because I have to go into work today in order to afford all the new Thomas trains we need to get our son for his new train table. ;)

I'm at work because I'm a "responsible adult" even though there's not a darn thing for me to do. Also, I pay the bills even when I'd much rather be doing much more fun stuff with the money. Being responsible is too darn expensive!!

What I hate having to do as a responsible adult? Come to work every day. ;)

I'd much rather stay home or pack up and take a road trip when the mood strikes but alas I like having a roof over my head, food on my table, clothes on my back so I come to work every day. Thankfully, the internet is here to distract me. :D

I clean the whole house every week even though I know it's possible to skip a week just because I think it's what a responsible adult should do when own their own home.

Actually realizing that you can't go out to eat because you have no money until next pay day.

BOO!!!!!

Does just having to be responsible good enough?

I hate using my hard earned money to buy groceries instead of a snazzy wool peacoat!

Not getting a pedicure because I feel bad that DH is at home alone with the baby.

Going back into work some day this week, even though I quit my job and my last day was the 28th, but I need to tell everyone what's left to be done on their projects.

Packing my house for our upcoming move instead of sitting around on my behind doing nothing.

I hate saving for retirement and the future instead of spending all of our money RIGHT NOW!

I remember when I first moved into my own apartment and had to spend my money on SUCH boring stuff like toilet paper and toothpaste.

I like being a responsible adult. I like that I can make my own decisions and basically decide what I do each and every day. Sure, I have to go to work, but I like my job and the paycheck that comes along with it. Beats having to ask my parents for money.

OK, good point. It could be worse!

Ditto this. DH thinks I'm crazy, but "should" is a big word with me. Like he could eat take-out every night of the week and I couldn't, not because of the expense only, but because I think we "should" cook dinner because that's what married grown-ups in their own house do. I wish I didn't have that mentality, but I do.

I hate being a "responsible adult" when it comes to dealing w/ my family. I am the youngest of 5, but I am the "responsible one" and it drives me nuts b/c everyone else is seriously wacky.

I like being responsible with money and all that stuff - for the most part. Though I am itching to chuck it all right now and take a $$$ vacation!!
