For the past 7 months, I have been spotting several days before my period. It is brown and light and gets worse right before my period. I asked my NP at my last check up and she talked like it was normal. I never did this before I got on birth control. 4 months or so after I got off birth control, it started doing this. I have always had a day or two of spotting and I know that is common. But close to a week! Should I go to the doctor and have this checked out? I am scared that we my have problems when we are ready to have a baby.

If it isn't normal for you then I would see your Doctor! I think that women are given the brush off far too often when it comes to our health!! It seems as though everything is "normal" or "typical" when we voice our concerns  Good Luck!

I agree. At least give your GYN a call and see what he/she says. They may have some advice or even want you to come in.

I've been having the same problem for about 6 months now. The week before my period, I would spot/bleed the entire week. I am on BCP, so when I saw my gyn in March, she switched me to a steady level BCP and said to give it 3 months and if I still had the spotting to come back. I went back in July and she had me do bloodwork, ordered an ultrasound, and did another physical exam. She found a polyp on my cervix that she removed and sent to pathology. I went last week for the ultrasound (which was normal), and she said the bloodwork was fine (except for a slightly high platelet level-which she ordered more bloodwork for), and the pathology on the polyp was benign.
I would definitely call your dr. My exam in March was fine, but in that 3 1/2 month period, the polyp developed. If I'd have waited until next March, there's no telling how big it would have gotten. Apparently things like that can cause you to bleed when you shouldn't. She said it could have been tons of things, like pregnancy, a hormonal imbalance or thyroid problems, to name a couple.
To be safe, go see your dr! It could be nothing, it could be something.
