DH's car won't pass inspection without a light switch that is no longer made. We'd need to special order it for more money than the car is worth. Does anyone know an online store that I can search to find car parts? eBay doesn't have it. The garage called all the local junkyards and nobody has it.

What kind of car is it?

Have you tried a google search for the part number/name? That's how I got a window motor part for my old car, but I can't remember the name of the store. There are tons of auto parts stores out there. Just be sure to call them to verify they actually have the part, since it seems some databases say they have anything you type in . If I typed in "thingamabob switch", it would actually say, "Yes, we have thingamabob switch".

Also, try O'Rilley Auto Parts--if you call them, they can check their inventory of all their stores.

It's a multi-function switch for a 93 Escort wagon. It is used to switch between regular headlights and highbeams.

I found something called junkyarddog.com where you can request a quote, but I don't see that part listed as an option.

I'll check O'Reilly's, thanks. I've never heard of them.

Try www.rockauto.com

Go to the year, make and model. The multifunction switch is under engine electrical...switch and relay.

I'm not sure if this is the correct one for the wagon...

Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for your help. DH found the part online, at a junkyard about 40 minutes away. They quoted him $40, when the garage had told him it would be $570. We were so excited. He called and placed the order and then drove out there yesterday afternoon.

Would you believe that after sitting there for six months, they crushed the car that very day! The invoice didn't come through before they demolished it. They apologized all over the place but now we are back to square one.

This is just our luck! I'm not laughing about it, but I'm sure somebody will find it amusing. :D

Well, doesn't that just suck:(. Any luck anywhere else? $570 is ridiculous, and where are they getting it from, the same junkyard? Maybe you can check junkyards in other areas.

greenbunny, what part of PA are you in? I'm in the DC metro area... have had too much experience having to get parts ;) I was quoted a part of $330, and was able to get it for $119... and that $119 peice was factory new :D If you'd like, PM me and I'll go to my local autobody buddy and see if they can locate it for me and at what price (I'm not 100% sure if they deal in used parts, but I'm guessing they probably do), and if needbe you can search my area junkyards to see if they have it, and I'd be more than willing to get it and send it up to you :)
