Dh had to go into work early this morning so i had to take DS (almost 1) to daycare.... So after DH left i took a quick shower before DS woke up. So i get out of the shower i hear DS crying a little bit (my bathroom is connects to DS's room) but i wanted to at least brush my hair before i went to him anyways i am standing in the bathroom and the next thing i hear is the bathroom door busting open and DS is standing there with a great big grin on his face:confused::confused: I have no idea how the kid got out of his crib but he scared me s**t outta me! i thought someone was in the house! SO i'm like asking him how he got out because the crib matteress is lowered all the way to the bottom and when he stands up in his crib the rail is a little bit above his tummy. He seemed happy and normal no bumps or anything, but i have no idea how he got out, and now i am worried that he will do this all the time and we cant lower his crib any lower:mad:. What should i do?
BTW our crib can turn into a toddler bed but isnt that too soon? I think it would be easier for him to get out of.....Phew thank goddnes he was okay!

You can buy crib tents to keep the little ones from escaping. DD climbed out once and never attempted it again though. She went into a big girl bed around 17 months and has gotten out 1 or 2 times. The rule is that she needs to stay on the bed and she has adhered to it.

ETA: I am glad that your DS did not hurt himself.

aww, lol!

When my twin sister and I were his age, we started escaping too. Our baby gate went all the way to the celing but we still climbed it to the top!

I do think it is too early for a toddler bed. My SIL put her kids in toddler beds at 1 and that is just too early. They kept getting out!

DD did this for about a week around the age of 2...I explained to her that she needed to stay in her crib and she hasn't tried to get out since so now she just screams for me...I am just too lazy to think about putting her in a toddler bed now.

It is scary..I remember laying in bed and seeing the door fly open and her little head come flying around the bed..she was so quiet about it - I didn't even hear her escape on the monitor.

we had the same exact thing happen with our DD but she was about 16 months old.... we bought a crib tent instead of moving to a toddler bed - it has worked really well for us - she is now 2 years old and we are planning on moving her to a bed in about 6 months or so....

You can buy a crib tent at Babies R Us (Probably Toys R Us too).

Good luck! I have a co worker that told me a similar story about one of her kids. After her ds escaped twice she bought a crib tent too!

I looked at the crib tents, pretty pricey!! but i feel like DS will get stuffy in it. I know its well ventalated but still... Guess its my only option though:rolleyes:

ETA: the reviews say it doesnt fit on sleigh cribs (which what we have) have any of you tried it with a sleigh bed?

Crib tent...we got one after DD climbed out at 11 months and landed headfirst on the hardwood floors (and fractured her skull, to boot!). We love the crib tent, she's 27 months and has no issue with it. I love it and it makes me not want to put her in a toddler bed, LOL.

I do have a sleigh crib and we managed to that same one that kindermom posted rigged on there. It's super secure, there's never been an issue. Took awhile to get it set right but we did it.

I can take a picture tonight if you'd like.

Okedokee I did my best with pics...I hope they are helpful. Of course, DD can't sleep in there now as she managed to screw up the bottom of it while no napping on Sunday and now the mattress tilts. Gah.

it's overwhelming when you take it out of the box, but basically just put it up on the crib and start velcroing :-)
