View Full Version : Which way does she spin?
This is really tripping me out.

First the lady was turning counter clockwise, but now she's turning clockwise for me.

You're too funny! I just hope that's not a mind trick the paper is playing on us. ;)
She was turning clockwise for me and then switched to counter-clockwise and then switched back to clockwise.
I've always been more of a right brain kind of gal - so I wasn't surprised. In fact, usually on the personality tests I often come out somewhere in the middle - maybe that is why I can get her to switch directions so easily???

I see her turning clockwise and can't seem to concentrate enough to see her turning counter clockwise. :p
ETA: If I watch the shadow on the ground I can see her turning counter clockwise. But if I watch the dancer herself I see her going clockwise.

Whoa! I cans her going both ways. I did what Happy said and looked at her shadow. That is how I can see her going both ways. Very trippy!
Clockwise for me.
Okay, so is anyone else wondering why the woman has erect nipples? :o
I can see her only going counter-clockwise. DH saw her going clockwise the at the same time.

I've seen it both ways, but I can't seem to make her go counter-clockwise now. When DH came home from work, we both saw her going clockwise. I was beginning to think it was some kind of hoax, but then I showed him after dinner and he said it was counter-clockwise. I told him to focus to see if he could get her to go the other way, and then he said, "She has nipples!" (So there you have it, MLA!)
eta: DH just saw her switch directions, and so did I again.

I noticed her nipples, too. Is that really necessary? It had to be designed by a guy!

Upon first glance, I see always clockwise (hate to admit, but I have opened a new window to this site 6 times).
When I watch it for a bit, she switches directions about every 5 seconds. I notice a pause in her step (and then she switches directions), but did not notice the nipplage until mentioned here :D.

Too funny, I just realized on the site's list, it includes "big picture" as a characteristic of being more right brained. Probably why I did not even realize nipple details were included :)

It keeps changing for me -- clockwise then counter then clockwise then counter. I can get it to change, but it takes a few seconds of concentrating. I'm not at all surprised that I see it both ways -- professionally, people often comment on both my artistic *and* organizational/detail-orientation abilities. I've never really been able to figure out which side of my brain is dominent since I seem to use both about equally. But I did NOT see the nipples until I read this thread :p.

I looked at it again, and I am still getting clockwise. I may show this to one of my students with Autism tomorrow. I am intereseted in how he sees it.
He is in third grade so I am sure he will not catch the nip action. :)
Clockwise at first then after a minute or two she switches to counter-clockwise.

Ok...this thing is PISSING ME OFF! First, I could ONLY see her going clockwise (which, according to the article makes no sense, because I've always been convinced my right brain just doesn't work), then I distinctly saw her switch directions so I thought it had to be a joke. I showed it to my husband, and as I was distinctly seeing her go counterclockwise, he was seeing her go clockwise. WTF?!? Seriously, I don't get it. There shouldn't be two different ways to see her move. You can follow her ponytail. It only goes one way at a time!!
Obviously, I need to go to bed, because this seriously has me on the verge of upset b/c I can't figure it out!! :o
eta -- she switched again...damnit!

Well, I dont know if I can concentrate that well, but I had her going both ways. A question for you all, did you have your hands on your mouse as you were doing this? Because it seems nearly every time I moved the mouse, the direction changed. Coincidence? (or am I TOO left brained! lol??) :p

She was counter-clockwise for me at the beginning. Then I blinked and she switched. I blinked a few more times, and she switched each time.
Then she got stuck on clockwise, and now I can only get her counter-clockwise if I tilt my head like I'm actually trying to make her spin.

There's a list of left and right brain functions on the side-DH & I were looking at it. We picked a left brain function-math-and started thinking through math problems in our head. Sure enough she went counter clockwise. Then we thought about things that provoke feelings of love and she switched to clockwise-right brain. Thing is, we were doing it separately!
We both thought it was a hoax until we had a conversation like this.
DH:It's clockwise
Me:Yea for me, to-NO it's counter!
DH: Not for me, still clockwise.
Me:Ok it's clockwise for me again.
DH: But it's counter for me now!
Wash, rinse, repeat. Maybe it's just a mind game. :p

I don't get it. I very distincly see her left foot down (as seen when her back is to me) when she's going clockwise and her right foot down (again when her back is to me) when she's going counter-clockwise.
If it wasn't the graphic changing through, design, not my focus, then how would her "down" leg change??

10-12-2007, 06:49 AM
Clockwise every time, and I keep trying to make it switch. Focusing on her shadow, or legs, concentrating, going away then coming back to it thinking if I if I surprise it it will change (:o). But looking at the list I'm practically a definition for right brain. I can't wait to try this on FH tonight, because he matches the left brain list perfectly.

if you stay focused on her foot thats on the floor, you can see that it ever-so subtly changes direction. but if you blink, you miss it!
At first I could only see her moving clockwise, then DH moved his finger counter-clockwise in front of the screen, and I was able to see her move counterclockwise.

That website is crazy! I can make her switch pretty easily (although it took a couple minutes to get her to do it the first time.) I showed it to DH last night and he thought that I was insane. I saw her going anti-clockwise, he saw her going clockwise. It was fun, though.

I saw her going clockwise for a while, but then was able to see her going counterclockwise. DH sees clockwise and hasn't been able to get it to change. What's weird is that we're both rather left-brained people. So I think that while the image may be some sort of optical illusion thing, it doesn't really correlate to left- or right-brained-ness.

This thing almost caused a riot in my office today! :D People were literally yelling at each other "NOOOO...she's going left...NO, she just switched! No she didn't...she's still going left!" :D We finally figured out that not only were people seeing her going in opposite directions, but when 2 people were seeing her go opposite, they were also seeing her face opposite directions...like when I was seeing her face, boobs, etc, the other person was seeing her ponytail, butt! SOOO freaking weird that our brains can totally change the way we process things!
(Oh, and FWIW, I showed it to a bunch of PTs, OTs, and speech therapists that work with brain injury patients...so everyone was very intrigued!)

She starts out clockwise for me, but if I grab the scroll bar on the right side of the page, she changes direction. And if I move the scroll bar, she'll switch between them. It could be just how I'm seeing it, but I'd like to see the code (not that I could read it, of course).

Try covering up part of the picture and just watching her foot.
I think it works because all of her individual parts look exactly the same from the front or the back, so it is really just the profile view flipping back and forth.

This is insane. Like others here, I can only see clockwise--but I'm a scientist. Totally left brained. I mean, I'm convinced I don't even have a right brain sometimes. And I can't get her to switch, even if I look at her foot. I'm off to show DH--also a scientist, so I'm interested to see what he sees.
ETA: DH saw clockwise. But, he noticed if you stare at her turning foot there is the pause and then her foot actually shifts direction for a split second and is facing the other way. But, like someone else said, her ponytail seems to always go clockwise. Weird.

Somehow, it's all about how our brain is perceiving what we're seeing. I was finally convinced of that when we realized at work that when I was seeing her face/boobs/etc, someone else was seeing her ponytail/butt/etc. I don't understand how our brains do it, but I don't understand a lot of how our brains work (and I freaking work on a brain injury unit!). Pretty amazing! :)

Yeah. I think that "pause" when she seems to change directions is your brain transferring her facial features, boobs, etc from her front to her back (since they aren't actually visible head on.)
only see clockwise. I'm an accountant for crying out loud - I don't HAVE a right brain, lol
I need to look into this. I thought the right brain/left brain thing had been discredited. I wonder about this.
The natural way for me to see it is clockwise but if I look at her feet and then look up again she does turn counterclockwise.
What's really weird is if I look away again for a second it is clockwise. I have to focus a certain way to make it go counterclockwise.

I got this several weeks ago from a counseling association I belong to-I could see her spinning both ways, but DH could only get her to move one way. I can't remember which direction it was now, but he kept asking me if I was playing a trick on him or pulling his leg.
I definitely noticed that little pause/hiccup and assumed it had to do with my brain switching gears, so to speak. But I guess there is a real pause in the video, like lbs27 said.
