Next Dr.'s Appointment: July 5th (another ultrasound)
I thought I would post my update over here rather than the WC. Went to the Dr. this morning. He said not to worry about the doubling time all that matters is that I am not bleeding and the numbers are still rising. What a huge relief :D They did an u/s but didn't expect to see anything. There was a tiny little something in my uterus which he said is probably the beginnings of the sac. I go back next Monday for another u/s and I repeated my HCG levels today.

Joining up over here too, I'm not too thrilled with the new WC boards either. I'll probably hang out in both places for now.

I'll add all of our "newbies" ;) in a minute.
I had my first ultrasound yesterday afternoon!!!!! We saw the heart beat! It was so cool. My dr said "awesome" about 50 times - she's a doll - so Jay was a little weirded out due to her enthusiasm but I was happy. Apparently, I'm doing "awesome" and the baby looks "awesome" so as long as everything is "awesome" I'm pretty darn happy! :D
I forgot to scan the ultrasound pics last night - you can't really see much - but will try to remember tonight. I went to bed way early last night due to utter exhaustion so that's why I forgot. My boss wanted to see the pics today and I forgot them this morning.... Oops.
Jay's 27th bday was last night so I changed his age to 27. His last bday as a childless man. ;) He's so excited. I forgot (see the pattern here) to bring the U/S pics to dinner last night to show his parents and sister... OOPS! I'll have to *remember* next time. I'm so patheticly tired right now!!

angelgirl: Congrats on hearing the heartbeats again. How exciting.
aligirl: I think that's great that your doc is so enthusiastic. Sometimes they forget that they may see it all the time, but we would enjoy sharing the excitement with them since we won't be doing this 100 times in our life. Don't worry about the forgetfullness- I have it horribly. DH now reminds me to grab diapers, wipes, my cell phone, my wallet, etc before we leave the house. It's pathetic. Poor Mia has been without diapers more times in the past month than she has her first year and a half of life.

That is so awesome about your doctor. It's great that you have someone that you really like.
angelgirl
Awesome you got to hear the heartbeats again!
My First Appt (copied from my journal on WC so it's a little long!)
I got there and she gives me this boatload of forms to fill out for new OBs. Fortunately, I had 45 minutes to sit, wait and work on that. I had to pee so badly but I knew they’d need a sample so I just held it.
Finally, the nurse calls me back and weighs me. 162 lbs. I am so thrilled…..NOT. Ugh. She hands me a cup with my little name on it and tells me to go in the bathroom, do my thing and put my cup in the pass through window to the lab. Interesting, no? So, I do my thing and I'm thinking this peeing into a tiny cup is going to get challenging in a while and I put it in the cupboard in the wall. Kind of makes you feel like you are doing a drug deal or something. Then I come out and go into an exam room. The nurse takes my blood pressure (102/70, yay) and leaves.
Then a midwife comes in. She goes over a ton of questions and this brochure thing and also tells me about midwives. Basically, the practice has 17 OBs, 7 midwives and 4 nurse practictioners. Only 5 OBs go to the office I go to though. So, I get to decide if we want to see the different OBs or stick with the midwives. She said the difference (other than the obvious fact that midwives aren’t MDs) is that the midwives are with you once you hit 3-5 cm but the OBs pretty much are only there for the delivery. So I have to think about that. I have no clue. Hubby says he thinks I would prefer the midwife but the ultimate decision is up to me. Any thoughts from anyone on that topic?
So the midwife is going over this brochure and we get to the ultrasound part and she says if everything goes well, I will only have one u/s at 18-20 weeks. She must have seen the horror on my face because she then said, "But your cycle was a little irregular so I'm going to order one for you so we can be sure of your due date." Um YEAH! I need visual confirmation, lady. The wheel they use to find due dates had me around 2/16 but I ovulated on CD 20 and not CD 14 so that makes a little difference and was enough to get me an u/s. Anyway, since we have Kaiser, all of my bloodwork and radiology stuff will be done at their satellite offices, not at the dr's office. So they fax the order to Kaiser and then Kaiser calls me to schedule. She thought it'd take a week or so. That is cool because I'd really like to hear the heartbeat and I know that won't be for a couple weeks.
So then she tells me to get undressed and she'll be back to do the exam. That was fun! First, I get my bbs felt up then she had to do a pap and then test for gonorrhea and chlamydia so she messed around down there for a while. Ouch. She's like, "Has anyone ever told you that your cervix tilts off to the left?" Hmmm....nope, no one has ever pointed that out! But thanks for letting me know! Seriously though, I said, “No, no one has ever said anything about that, but I can feel it’s not in the middle when I check my cervix.” I swear she screwed around with the speculum for what seemed like an eternity. She ended up putting it upside down so she could get a better view. The OB never had any problems. I guess I should get used to people seeing my privates though. LOL, She thinks my uterus tilts back but I have no clue if that means anything. <shrug>
So I had to then go over to Kaiser to donate another urine sample and have her drain me of 4 vials of blood. The midwife strongly suggested I add an HIV test to the mother barrage of tests because of the blood transfusion I got when I had my car accident in 1992, so I think that was a vial in and of itself. The good thing about Kaiser is that the people in their lab draw blood all day long so they are good, but the lady says as she is drawing the blood, "Doesn't being pregnant suck?" I'm like, well, I'm just starting, but thanks for the vote of confidence! Ha ha, she wasn't trying to be mean or anything so I found it a bit funny. When I left, she said, “See you at 28 weeks for your gestational diabetes test!” She was nice and got my vein on the first try so I will just smile and nod at her. Our friend, P, says to be ready for all sorts of unsolicited advice and strangers touching my belly, but I swear if some weird person touches me, they WILL LOSE their hand. I need my personal space. I told P I'd have to get a shirt that says, "HANDS OFF". Maybe that'll work. ha ha

First u/s - July 5 at 9:30 am. Cannot wait.
Aligirl - I gotta give you HUGE props for starting this up. Thanks so much. It's bad enought I spend so much time on line while at work- but the WC change was so bad that I was wasting more time trying to navigate. Anyway- this is so much easier and allows me ample time to work and play :D
Mindy - Your doctor's appt sounded tres exciting. It's great they are going to have you get an extra u/s. I don't know the differences between ob and midwife- but it seems like and interesting alternative. Can you have the epidural with a mid wife or is it all natural?
I will be back real soon.

We had first u/s this am - both cried. It was pretty amazing for us!! Lil Benny Jr. looks just fine, everything still looking great, and we heard the heartbeat as well. I was pretty overwhelmed immediately after (love these mood swings) because I am interviewing for a new job tomorrow, need to finish a class I had to take an incomplete in because of a family death, have to write two articles, and start class again tomorrow night! Ugghhhh.
Anyway...(way to get myself worked up all over again) incredible morning for us. We go back at 10 weeks on July 15, then for the second u/s at 16 weeks (you can tell the sex by now) and a third u/s at 20 weeks (I think). It's all so confusing...good thing I trust the doctor and his office to remind me of all this. We used to have a "travel" calendar, now I guess we need a baby calendar!!
angelgirl so glad everything is going well.
Mindy That's a lot to take in!! I thought we were bombarded!!!
PS Did anyone else know this first u/s was vaginal? I was horrified when she told me that!!!
PSS Anyone thinking about a vacation in the next few months. A last hurrah???

Congrats for everyone having such great appointments and ultrasounds. As for me, I havent even called the doc yet :) I will be seeing my ob/peri since I had PIH and late-set Pre-e with Zoey. It is a good thing because I really, really like her!
vaginal scan My doc always called it a dildo-cam :p I had those ones from my 5 week scan though my 13 week scan. The belly one wasnt until I was 20 weeks.
vacation plans We had a trip planned this summer since we postponed it last summer because I got pg and didnt want to be pg in Mexico :) and now we are postponing it again. *sigh* We are planning a 3 day mini-trip though just the 2 of us before we have 2 kiddos to occupy our time.

TRAY622 - I so appreciated your reference to the dildo-cam bc that is exactly how all my friends explain the vaginal U/S- like have a huge dildo stuck up you. Not that I would actually know what that feels like. ;) I actually have my first u/s on 7/5. I think it will be a real one just bc the u/s technician will be doing it not the doctor. But that's just my guess.
BTW- the picture of your baby is adorable.
re: Vacation- We are going on vacation in a few weeks from July 23-July 30. We fly from Newark to Atlanta. We'll hang in Atlanta with some friends for a few days and then drive to Jacksonville Florida and fly home from there. When we booked the flight, the rates were sort of cheap, so I chose not use my American Express points. So by next year, we'll have much more points to use toward two free flights anywhere in the USA. I am sure we'll travel. Maybe not next year. But maybe in 2007. Maybe we'll save the points until the baby is big enough for disney world.

Hey ladies -
I have a question re: your first pre-natal appt.
Did your DH's go with you to all of your appts?
What exactly happens...talk to the dr., pelvic exam, Q&A session?
I have my first appt on July 28, I will be 9w4d - do you think they will do an ultrasound - and is it most likely going to be vaginal?
I don't know if my husband could handle that - he would be in for a treat!! haha. He's not into all the medical stuff - he keeps saying he will be definitely above the shoulders during delivery.
TIA ladies...
Vacation: We are going to Chigaco for the last weekend in July with some friends. We will be seeing a Cubs game while we are there too!! We got bleacher seats. As of now that's really it.
Dildo cam? My goodness!
I have to schedule my ultrasound for next week sometime, NP wanted to make sure that I was at the end of my seventh week. Thanks for the warning on the cam- DH will be coming, and he would appreciate being prepared for that. :o
Vacation - We have a cruise planned with DH's family in September, but nothing else planned thus far. We are hoping to take a babymoon in maybe the fifth or sixth month. DH has never been to Hawaii, so thats on the short list.
I have my 1st Dr. appt. on thursday, I can't wait. I have no idea what they are going to do, I'm hoping they can give me something to help with the m/s. It's so nice to hear about everyone's apointments, yea for healthy babies! :D
Vacations- DH and I have a trip planned to Boston in 2 weeks. A friend of mine is getting married out on the cape and then we will spend a couple days with my best friend in Boston. I'm a little nervous since I am so sick these days but hopefully I will have something to help with that. I'm so excited I'll get to tell my best friend about the baby in person.
I was wondering when everone was planning on telling their workplace about thier pregnancy? I was going to wait until week 12 or so to be in the 2nd trimester but I'm so ill, I can't even hide it. I think I'm going to have to tell them sooner. Not to mention I think some people I work with have already figured it out. I just don't know how to approach my boss about it.

Vacation Plans/Travel - I mentioned this in our other thread but... I travel every week and will continue to do so until July 29th - just at the end of the 1st trimester. We have an almost 2 week long vacation scheduled in August to visit family/friends in Maine & Boston. I'm not at all worried but that's because I haven't had any M/S yet. I hope we can set something else up in the Fall but I'm not sure if my vacation hours will be up high enough to do so! I'd love to do a babymoon!
TheFuture: My DH did come with me to the U/S. He's the one who wanted to know what it felt like when she was "poking around" inside. He does not do well with medical things but seemed OK with this - mostly because there's no blood and it's on a screen so I think it seemed less medical to him. Plus, my OB is hilarious so he was more caught up with looking at the picture on the screen and listening to her excitement than worrying about the "dildo cam" inside his wife ;)
A-lo: Telling your boss/coworkers... I had an easy time telling my 2 bosses because I really like them and they're really cool. They wanted to see ultrasound pics and everything - and have been reminding me to drink lots of water and get lots of sleep. Very sweet. However, I had a harder time telling my Philadelphia boss because I think he's not all there - he promptly told my St Louis boss (my buddy) that I'm pg and my St Louis boss pretended like he didn't know because he thought it was an inappropriate thing to say. I have one more boss in Philly to tell and I'm slightly squeamish on telling him - I almost don't want to but I know it'll come up since the other Philly guy is such a blabbermouth. As far as telling coworkers: I've told maybe 2 or 3. One figured it out due to frequent trips to the restroom and a bottle of water constantly in my hand - plus he may have overheard me making a dr appt....but he took me aside, congratulated me, and said my secret is safe so that was nice. BUT - I don't really care to tell the rest of them. They'll figure it out eventually....and will hear about it as more of my friends at work ask if it's OK if they tell so and so - which I just started saying yes to that today - depending on the person being told.
I'm going to scan my U/S pics soon - they're not very exciting but they're something :D

Vacations:
We are going to Michigan in August with my family. We have rented a house for a week. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone (they live in Florida, We live in Connecticut). My nieces (4 and 9 months will be there too).
Telling Bosses/Co-Workers:
I told my bosses yesterday b/c we had a whitewater rafting trip this weekend and I didn't want to just make an excuse. They were very happy for me, probably a bit worried in the same about what I will do after the baby is born. I told them that I plan to work as much as possible but at this point I'm not sure if it will be full time or part time, we will just have to take it one day at a time. I work in a company of 4 people and I work from home. I told the other employee as well.
Appointment:
I have my frist appointment on July 8th. I can't wait. I will probably call the office and see if I should bring DH or not.

Hi ladies:
Aligirl- love the ultra sound. Such a cutie!!!
re: telling people at work -I decided to wait until 12 weeks to tell. Not for any particular reason. I guess it's just bc I am freinly with the people I work with- but don't feel close enough with them to share such a big thing. I told one girl but that's bc she is also pg. She's about 14/15 weeks. And I actually just found out about that last week. Someone spilled the beans on her. I am not sure what she was waiting for. But I decided to tell her so we can share stories/advice. However, my problem is that I have not been watching my weight these past few months, so my size 8s were already getting tight and now they are just down right uncomfortable. I think I am going to take a ride to the mall at lunch today and buy myself that belly band. I hate to spend money on clothes so soon- but I don't know what to do. Any recommendations? Do I buy maternity clothes or bigger pants in regular sizes? I have alerady purchased shirts in size larges bc all my shirts are fitted and are feeling too tight- plus my belly sticks out of them. I also bought some yoga pants at old navy. But I cannot wear them to work. uggh.

My July u/s was cancelled for the 2nd time. I am so angry. I am on the verge of tears. I had my firwt u/s first scheduled for June 17 but they cancelled bc the technician called out. So I rescheduled for July 5 and they just called the cancel again. The problem is, I cannot go at anytime of the day bc of my dh's job. We can only go in the morning. He cannot miss the u/s. I asked them to cancel another patient and give me their appt. But they would not do that. I like my doctor a lot- but I hate their u/s tech.
Just a call from the office mgr - she feels really bad. She is going to make phone calls for me to get me an u/s at one of their outside facilities for the July 5th so I really won't miss my appt. Hopefully she'll be able to do something. The bad part is since it's outside facility, I will have to pay the co-pay were would nto have to pay it at the doctor's office. Plus, I liked my doctors office bc he's great and bc they do u/s which a lot of offices don't do!!! I just want to curse F$$$!!!! Wish me luck- hopefully they will find something for me.

I’m doing well. I had my first “there’s no way I can eat that” episode last night. It was chicken and ravioli. I ended up with a burger and fries instead!
Anyone else’s nips so sore they are almost numb?
roe
The midwife said she could prescribe drugs which I found shocking so I am guessing you can have an epidural with her. I will have to ask and confirm that though because I plan on getting the epidural while in the elevator going to L&D so I will need someone who can give me one.
I’m so sorry they keep screwing you around with the u/s appointment. If she does schedule you out of the office, I would ask her to give you a credit at her office for the co-pay you will have to dish out because the u/s is at a different office. I wouldn’t be surprised if she gave it to you! My GYN’s office has sent my pap samples to the wrong lab twice and I had to pay for the work up when it would have been free if they had sent it to the lab my insurance company deals with. I wrote them a letter to put in my chart about what had happened and a mysterious credit appeared on my account. No one seems to know where it came from, but my last two visits have had no money due for my co-pay. It’s worth a shot!

That is so awesome that you saw your little one and heard the heartbeat! Don’t worry about crying. I will be a blubbering idiot when I get my u/s, I am sure! I know what you mean about the appointment. I probably sat there with a blank look on my face because of all of the information. I haven’t even opened the baby bag they gave me yet with literature and stuff in it.
I know the first u/s is transvaginal but I have never seen the wand. I hope my eyes don’t bug out of my head when they whip it out! ;)
We did our last hurrah in January so we won’t be going anywhere too expensive for a while. Maybe a short trip in the fall.

I have heard it called a dildocam as well. I can see my hubby giggling like a 5 yr old when he sees it. Oh dear.

My first appointment was lots of questions/answers & info (very overwhelming), a pap smear, and bloodwork. Hubby didn’t go with me because I knew we wouldn’t hear the heartbeat because it was too early.

Yes, it’s nice to know in advance and be prepared for the dildocam!

I forgot my question: what pre-natal vitamins are you taking? The midwife asked if I needed pre-natals and I said that I had been taking a regular centrum with a folic acid supplement, was that okay? She said that was fine and that I didn't need anything else. What is everyone taking and is it OTC or a prescription?
aligirl
06-29-2005, 08:40 AM
Mindy: I'm currently taking Target prenatals plus some extra folic acid. My OB wants me to switch to a Rx prenatal. I have 3 different kinds - I'll have to look at the names tonight. But - they're all different: one is very similar to the Target brand in everything in it - just has more folic acid, one is a chewable (and tastes NASTY so I won't be getting that one), and one contains fatty oils/fish oils but not all the other vitamins & minerals I'd expect in a prenatal. So, I'm probably going to switch to the one that's like the Target brand since I'll only have to remember to take 1 pill instead of 2.
I'll post the names tonight if you want ... I'll be switching to Rx prenatals soon.
tray622
06-29-2005, 09:43 AM
I took Nature's Valley prenatals with the first and now with this one (200 for $10 at Sav-On). I also take extra iron due to anemia, but my ob said that any are fine. I was told by my peri that any of the vitamins are fabulous and it is the folic acid that is especially important in the beginning. Some just take regular vitamins with a supplement of folic acid.

Mindy- I promised myself i would not be a posting fool- but I am addicted to the boards. To answer your questions about the prenatal vitamins. I has Prenate Elite prescribed to me, but my insurance company did not pay for it. So I called the doctor and he prescribed prenatal formula 3 (which must be a generic). The assistant at the doctor's office told me that a lot of girls don't take prescription pre natel bc they insurance does not cover it and instead they take Centrum. I think it's just important to take a lot of Folic Acid. That really important. My doc also mentioned a vitamin called Lipol which contains the fish oils. I have been the pharmacy and have not found it OTC. The doc said a well stocked pharmacy would have it.

Wow, thanks ladies! That makes me feel better. She was just so nonchalant about the regular centrum and going in, I thought for sure I would come out with a script. Then my sister asked if I got big horse pills to take, and that got me wondering. I think I"ll check out if centrum has a prenatal and see what the difference is between that and the regular centrum. I'm getting 800mcg of folic acid a day so that can't be bad! I know Kaiser doesn't pay for a lot of prescriptions either so I don't mind not having to dish out the dough for them as long as a regular vitamin is alright.

Prenatals I just use Kaiser's own label. They have everything I need (and my hands are so hairy - the joys of pre-motherhood!!) and have not bothered me at all since I hear prenatals can make you ill.
dildocam That is too funny! I was horrified when she told me and felt so bad for my benny. He actually asked me what it felt like a few hours later which only means he sat there and went back and forth on whether or not he could ask me what the dildocam felt like :p . As I told my gf at lunch today "Just a little humiliating getting done by a dildo-wielding technician with my husband sitting there holding my hand." TMI, I know
Vacation We're trying to decide if we want to extend our yearly Boston trip to Europe for a week in October. But we just went to Aruba in Jan and Hawaii in April, but I'm just itching to get back to Europe one last time.
Work question I just had a third interview with a school and actually told my would-be supervisor before she made the offer. I just wanted her to know and know I was committed to working there and after the baby arrives. I'll know tomorrow if I got the job or not. We'll see. However, if I don't get it and stay here I won't say anything until 12 weeks and I will quit once I am on maternity leave.

Hi Ladies!
Prenatals: I'm currently taking over the counter vitamins. I tried a sample of the chewables and almost yaked. It was like eating a giant tums. It smelled like a flinstone vitamin, so I was really excited. Boy did it turn out bad.
dildocam: Had these with my miscarriage. They weren't nearly as bad as I would have thought. My doc's office routinely does one over the belly first and then the internal one. I had to pee so badly after they were done with the regular ultrasound, once I peed, I could have cared less what they stuck where  .
Vacation: I wish we were going this year. We put a large addition on our house last summer, so we haven't really had the money to spend on vacation the past 2 summers. I told DH that we were definately going away next summer.

9 weeks today!
Prenatals -I am using a Target brand. They have 800 mg of folic acid in them. The NP said as long as the OTC were at least 400 that it was fine.
Vaginal Ultrasound (aka dildocam)-I didn't think it was bad at all. Nothing like an internal. I was a little nervous before the first one. I thought it was pretty funny with the double condoms and all the lube she used on it. I had a belly ultrasound last week and the picture was not nearly as clear or maybe it was because the dr. did it and not a tech. But I got to see lots of growth compared to the first 2! :D
Vacation -We just built a house so no big plans for us right now. I need a week off just to try and organize, finish unpacking and start decorating.
Love how a few of you are coming to Boston. I just moved from Boston. I'm only 35 miles from the city and still work there. Let me know if you need any suggestions on where to go!
Work -I'm trying to hold off for another 3 weeks, but I've been tempted to tell a few times already since I've called in 2x and am so exhausted. I was supposed to go out for drinks with coworkers tomorrow so I thought I would have to spill the beans when I requested a sparkling water. But that got cancelled so no uncomfortable situations of should I tell yet.

Question- When people write about their beta number, what are they talking about? Is this something that we are all supposed to be aware of?
tray622
06-30-2005, 09:31 AM
betta numbers Some docs routinely test your blood to get a beta number and then retest 2-3 days later to make sure it is doubling. You wouldnt have a beta number (or it would be less than 5) if you werent pegnant. In my experience MOST dont have this done unless there has been issues during TTC or there is spotting, etc. I had the blood test done with my first because I started spotting at 5 weeks. It is to "make sure" that the pregnancy is going in the right direction, although it is not a guarantee. HTH

I have heard of women taking the Flintstone’s vitamins! Hey, if they work! I’m just glad to know I’m taking something acceptable. I get the gagging too but nothing has come up yet. I have felt the urge to go lie on the bathroom floor though. I put a container in the car…just in case.
roe
Betas=HCG, which is the hormone that is given off by the baby and will be found in your bloodstream. I haven’t had any betas taken. I think they mostly do this in cases where there were previous miscarriages or there is a reason to worry like bleeding/spotting. They take them every other day and see if they are rising like they should be. I think in the beginning they need to double every 48-72 hours, but after a while, the doubling time slows down.
If I am wrong on that, someone please correct me!
I will be back to post when I get my u/s appointment!

I was afraid to post to much since my 1st beta number was so low (20 at 14DPO) but I've since had a good u/s - saw the gest sac and a yolk sac at 6 weeks and I have another u/s on Tuesday 7/5 (8 weeks) where we hope to see the hearbeat. Prenatals - I am also using a Target brand. I tried the one that was suppose to help with m/s but it didn't work for me at all. It actually made me feel worse so I went back to the Target brand. But I was told that as long as you were getting the additional folic acid with your normal daily vitamins that was fine. I even knew someone who took 2 Flinstone vitamins a day because she couldn't keep anything else down.
Vaginal Ultrasound- I didn't think it was bad at all either. I know my DH was a little uncomfortable when he saw it though. LOL! I hope though my next U/S isn't vaginal.
Vacation - Well, I just got back from Italy. So no vacations for me. It was our last big trip before kids. Plus it was to help us with any trepidation about trying again after the m/c. I guess it worked. :)
Right now though I have to save all the vacation days I can for my maternity leave. Doesn't help I have to take some off for SIL's wedding. Plus I don't know how much I'll need for all the appts. Really I have like 2 days left to last until the end of the year if I want to carry over 40 weeks next year which is the most I can. Ugh!
Work - Well, I had to tell my boss right away. Because of my last m/c my Dr was watching me very closely. Plus we came to learn my progesterone level was low and may have been the reason why I m/c'ed the last time. So I've been taking progesterone supplements for the past month. Anyway, I was going in to the Dr's office like every 2 to 3 days the first few weeks. I had my bloodwork done first for the progesterone and then for my beta counts. So I knew my boss had an idea. Plus I needed to tell him since some things I won't be able to do much longer at work. I work on construction sites sometimes and I won't be able to carry one of the testing equipment much longer. So I figure he know about it now and have to figure out what to do when I can't any longer.
As for the rest, my receptionist who is also PG figured it out. I think the rest of the girls in my office now know. But there are a couple guys in the office who have no clue. I'll let them know after my first trimester unless they hear it from one of the girls.
Beta Counts - I was tested for it when I started spotting during my first PG which eventually led to a m/C. So I was tested until my numbers zeroed out since I had mine naturally. I was tested again this time probably because of the m/c and plus I started on progesterone supplements the same day I found out. So they wanted to make sure it was progressing normally. So I wasn't sure if it was something normally done.
Suzly - So sorry for your loss. (((HUGS))) You are in my thoughts!

roe...everyone is right so far about the beta numbers. i had to go in to have one to find out if i was pregnant originally because we did IVF (as did astro and ann) and then every couple of days to see if the numbers were doubling. now, i get beta numbers every time i do an u/s (weekly) just to make sure the numbers are doing what they're supposed to!
but it's not something that's normally done in a routine pregnancy!

Mollymac - It's very good to see you again. I remember you quite well actually. Always liked your user name.
Pregnancy is seeming much stranger this time around then when I had my DD. I basically had a symptom-free pregnancy last time, an ideal pregnancy if you will, but not this time. It's not bad and I'm not complaining but it's really different already. I'm starving all the time, exhausted, have the sore BB's and I already feel incredibly bloated. Have any of the others on here that have already had at least one child notice it being completely different? Do I just have amnesia from my first pregnancy?

Hi Girls! Work is so busy for me this week that I just have time for a quick check in. I scheduled my first appt with my OB for July 15th. I'm starting to feel a little more confident about this pregnancy since I've made it further than I did last time. And I know I will feel even better after I hear that heartbeat (hopefully at that appt in a couple weeks!), but I'm pretty sure I'll still worry through most of the next 8 months...
Quick SO's/Replies:
Suzly - I am so sorry for your loss. You and your DH are in my thoughts and prayers!
Welcome Ann and mollymac - glad you tracked us down over here! :)
Prenatals - I'm not taking prescription ones either. I'm not sure if my OB will change that at my first appt or not... The ones I'm taking I ordered from a company called Nature's Sunshine. They sell all kinds of natural health products and have a great reputation for the purity and easy digestibility of their ingredients.
Dildocam - Not really looking forward to this again (they did one on me last time when I started spotting) but it wasn't as bad as I feared. It will be weird having DH there though. I wonder if he'll react like some of your DH's have... I should probably warn him, huh? :D
Work - I just told my boss earlier this week. I'm starting to feel queasy after breakfast in the AM and consequently a little bit slow to get in to the office each day. He knew we were trying so it wasn't a shock to him - we already have a plan for how this will work for the company. And I figured a little extra sympathy from the boss is a good thing... I'll hold off on telling the coworkers until at least after my 1st OB appt.

kellymb75 I have the exact oppisite... The first was horrible and i remember very clearly :) Plus, it wasnt that long ago. This one so far is symptom free! I know I am very early, but by this time with the first I had morning sickness galore which never ended until she was born!

kellymb: This pregnancy seems to be harder on me this time around- at least so far. I'm more nauseous than before and more tired (however that may be from chasing a toddler around all day long). I'm not technically starting to show, but definately have a puffy belly. I wasn't in maternity clothes last time until almost 5 months. I'm guessing I'll be in them in another 3-4 weeks this time (those ab muscles just aren't the same anymore ;) ). I'm hoping pregnancy will turn out to be very different from last time. I had a really rough time starting around the 6 month mark until the end.
tinagirl: Hang in there for that heartbeat. THat's what I'm holding out for. I just keep having visions of going in for that appt and the doctor not being able to find one. I think having a miscarriage puts a damper on enjoying the beginning stages of pregnancy. We'll get through it though :)
mollymac: Welcome back. I looked around the WC boards to see if I could figure out what was going on with you, but didn't find any clues. Glad you're back and everything's OK.
Today is my due date from my last pregnancy. A little sad, but not as bad as it would have been if I hadn't gotten pregnant before the day rolled around.
We took it easy today, and finally got our yard landscaped (we haven't had grass for over a year). I can't wait for the grass to grow so Mia has some to play in. We've been staying inside a lot because of the heat. I just can't take 90-95 degrees with high humidity. Thankfully it's supposed to drop back into the low 80s this weekend.

Hi Ladies, I am so behind! Welcome to all the new mommies!
Well I had my first preggo scare! I spotted yesterday.
This is sort of embarrasing, but have any of you spotted after sex??
Well I sure did! It was not much at all, but it was good enough to make me go to the ER. They took a lot of test, and did vaginal exams., (no Dildocam though) We waited for the blood work to come back and everything was good. Today I went back to get blood work again and met with my regular doctor to discuss my results. The HCG quantative (beta count?) went up 1000 points from yesterday, so that was a good sign. The Doctor said that spotting was normal after an orgasm, because the cervix is very tender for some woman.
I told Ryan he was not to touch me ever again! ;)
prenatals- I am taking One Source. Doctor said they were good, but as soon as I am done with the bottle he wants to prescribe some.
work-I already told my boss last week and he was very happy for us. Shocked, but happy!
vacation-we just bought a new house and we went to CA earlier this year, so no more for us!
symptoms so far : sore sore boobs(they feel so heavy!), no m/s yet!
I still go to the doctor on July 7th for the "official" appointment.
My first ultrasound will be the week of July 17th-when I am 10 weeks.

Lucy and Ryan Try not to worry too much about the spotting, it seems to be quite common in pregnancies. I had spotting when I was about 4 weeks pregnant, and was very frightened, even though it was brown, not red spotting. As I did IVF, I was able to contact my nurse who sent me in for additional betas which set my mind at rest. But it still is scary.
I told my husband he should think himself lucky if he's able to come near me ever during this pregnancy ;)

Hi Ladies! I am glad to hear that everyone is doing well!
LucyandRyan- I am glad that the spotting was not anything serious. I sware- I feel like I have gained a pound and a half in my bb's. They feel like weights and are defiitely larger! Usually I sleep without a bra on, but now I can't stand it and need to have some support.
Astro- Congratuations! That is great news! That must have been a shock!
DH and I have talked about twins. It definitely scares him. LOL. Twins don't run in our family, and we weren't on fertility drugs/treatment, but I have created this image in my mind of going to the sonogram and finding two little embryos (just to bug DH a little…). Let me tell you- my visions do not amuse DH!
Kellymb75- I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who is constantly starving! I need to make sure that I am eating more regularly, because if I don't eat every couple hours or so I feel so out of it!

Hello everyone!
Holy cow, Astro! Double congratulations! That is so awesome.
I hope everyone else is doing well. I set a record for bathroom trips during the night last night. I was up 5 times! Crazy. I usually sleep through the night unless I've had caffeine before I go to bed. But something I ate gave me some righteous gas (sorry if tmi) and I swear it felt like my intestines were percolating! Ouch! I guess I should get used to the frequent bathroom trips, huh?
We plan on telling both families this weekend so hopefully it goes well. My only concern is MIL. Hubby's little brother and his wife announced they were pg last month and she is due in January. (They have been married 7 months and they are about 8 years younger than us.) So hopefully MIL doesn't say anything comparing us or my head may explode!
I hope everyone has a great 4th!

Astro - Wow! Congrats on the twins!! How very exciting to be doubly blessed. :)
Mindy - Good luck telling the family. I'm sure everyone will be thrilled for you!
LucyandRyan - Yes, I had a spotting incident last weekend after sex. I knew it was possible (even likely) that it would cause spotting so I didn't freak out too terribly much. And fortunately it stopped very quickly - just saw it on the first trip to the bathroom immediately afterwards. This is the first time we've DTD since finding out I'm pg so I was nervous about it - I knew any spotting would send me into panic mode after going through spotting with the m/c last time. But I just couldn't resist - it was our 1st anniversary!! Anyway, after that we decided to try to hold off on doing that again until we get to 12 weeks or so - just for my peace of mind. DH is being very sweet and understanding about it but I still feel kinda bad... Oh well, good to know I'm not alone!
LRL - That is so funny that you are teasing your DH about the twins. :D We are totally reversed. My DH would love to have twins and I'm a little bit scared at the idea - so he loves to talk about our babies (plural) that are on the way. I'm sure he'll be disappointed when there's only one...
And to those of you complaining of the sore bb's I'm right there with you. I started sleeping with a sports bra on at night almost the day after the positive pg test. And I think now they're actually getting worse! Last night it even hurt just to sleep on my side. Yikes. Hopefully this phase will end soon???

angelgirl I know it is so easy to say but cramping really is normal. I was told though with #1, that if the cramping got to the point when I just felt "wrong" then I needed to kindly demand to be looked at. I think if you really feel like it is beyond normal, then maybe you could kindly insist you need to go in. I hope Wednesday comes super quickly for you and with a lot of rest this weekend those cramps lessen!!

Hey ladies!!
Congrats and Congrats Astro!! That's so exciting!! :D
As for me, everything is going pretty well. I didn't sleep very well last night - I was starving at about 11:00 and went to bed around 11:45 and then I was up at 4:00am - rolled over and tossed and turned until my alarm went of at 6:00. I can't wait for DH to get back home tonight - he has been gone since Wed for business!!
I have been crampy for the most part, (really bad AF cramps - front and lower back...not fun) and a little bloated. I wish I could take some Midol to make the bloating go away... It seems to be everyother day where I am more uncomfortable. My BBs are growning... Last night they were feeling rather large - I think I need to get some new bras. The are also still tender and my nips are getting more sensitive now too.
Question re: Do you ladies just go out and buy bigger bras or are you buying maternity bras already?
QOTD: Anyone have fun plans for the July 4th weekend?
Can you say baseball, baseball and baseball? We are heading to the Padres/Giants games Friday, Saturday nights and then on Sunday afternoon. Looking forward to it!! But, I will definitely be napping on Monday!! Love 3-day weekends!!!
Have a good one ladies!!!

Sue - I'm so sorry for your loss...... you & your family are in my thoughts.
Astro - Woo hoo! TWINS! Double congrats to you!!
My BBs have been sore from the beginning.... meatpie - you think 32D is bad?? I think I may have jumped up to DD, maybe it's just a really full D. Ack. I can still fit in my regular 36D bras but I may need to go shopping for some new ones soon. As one of my girlfriends put it, at least they were already big!!! :o
<begin rant>
Rant about coworkers... this is exactly why some people suck. I told this guy at work who I'm close to and he shared it with two people - telling them not to tell anyone. What does one girl do? Runs to the biggest darn gossip in my old group and says "Alison's pregnant!!!" She thought he'd know so she just had to get confirmation. Well, OK, that's fine. We've told pretty much everyone we care about so whatever. I'm not irritated with her. I'm irritated with the guy she told. Why, you ask? BECAUSE HE EMAILED A DISTRIBUTION LIST!   I mean, COME ON! Some things are meant to be kept private, on the DL, NOT in an email to a bunch of people that I didn't want knowing right now. Fortunately (because otherwise I'd report him to HR), he didn't come out and say it was ME but he did say that someone's expecting and asked the group to guess who. A girl I'm friends with from the group asked me about it and I said "I'm not responding to D's emails. He's an @ss. He's a HUGE @ss and he's just lucky my name isn't specifically called out." I was/am so pissed. If that moron tries to contact me I don't know what I'll do. What kills me is NO ONE ELSE is blabbing. Everyone else has kept it quiet - but this guy. ACK.

QOTD: We're having people over for a 3rd of July BBQ. Our town shoots off fireworks and has a festival about 2 blocks from our house so everyone is hanging out to watch the pyrotechnics and then who knows. On the Fourth, we're going to a pool party/BBQ. I'm looking forward to spending time with friends. It should be fun. And, for our BBQ, I have some awesome strawberries that I froze 2 weeks ago that are going to be made into Virgin Daiquiries for me :)

Question re: Do you ladies just go out and buy bigger bras or are you buying maternity bras already?
I just decided to go ahead and get a bigger size bra. I went up a full cup size already too so the old ones just weren't working for me (not that either DH or I are complaining - I went from an A to a B  ). I went to a maternity store first but they only carried nursing bras not maternity ones and I just couldn't hold off on buying anything any longer. So from there I headed over to Macy's and got a regular bra but in a bigger size - it was on clearance at least so I won't feel too bad if I'm never this size again...
QOTD - We don't have official plans yet but I'll probably be crashing my sister's place to use their pool. I don't know if we'll make it to see any fireworks since it's just so darn crowded everywhere that has them around here. I'm growing less and less tolerant of big crowds every year.
The Future - Have fun at the baseball games - Go Giants!! :)
aligirl - Sorry about the blabbermouth co-worker! What a jerk!! But hey, enjoy your daiquiris. And thanks for taking care of the thread!
Hope everyone else has a great weekend too!

tray...thanks for the cramping info. it doesn't seem too weird, but i'm still worried!
ali...i tend to think coworkers are crappy always. sorry yours are!
july 4th...no real big plans for the weekend. going to a friends for a bbq tomorrow and then to ILs on sunday for the day and then to a party at night.
on the 4th, we'll go watch the big macy's fireworks display on the east side of the city from my friend's rooftop (no crowds!)
as for boobs...not only have mine not grown but they're not sore. wish they were! or i at least wish they'd grow!
The Future - Have fun with the Giants! I am going to the A's game on Sunday. Should be fun!
Aligirl - You too? DD? You are not alone! I keep wondering how much worse it can get! Sorry about the dumb blabbermouth at work. That would have royally ticked me off too!
I have way too many of those around here, that's why I am holding off telling anyone as long as possible. It's hard with all the appointments though!
QOTD: We have a little parade in our city on the 4th in the morning, and we will most likely go and check that out. MIL is having a barbeque after that, and then we will most likely go to check out the fireworks in SF. It really depends on the fog...
I just scheduled my first ultrasound for July 14th- I can't wait! :)
Have a wonderful weekend ladies!

QOTD:
Weekend Plans
DH and BIL went on the whitewater rafting trip I was supposed to go on, and I am totally jelous. Tomorrow we are going to a BBQ. No clue for Monday.
Bras
I'm having major issue b/c I am a DDD already. I got a few new ones in my size b/c my underwires all decided to pop through at the same time. I'm not sure what I will do if the grow more... they must make bigger bras, but where!!!! And they are very sore, especially in the morning.
I am feeling great... talked to my friend who had her daugther with the same ob practice... she told me that they only did her u/s at 20 weeks and then before she was induced... my sister then told me I should forget my exact dating so they will have to do one earlier. who knows. guess I will find out on friday.

Jordan - I know what you mean about the bras. I am a D (DD around AF time) and I am in need of new bras too. I am going to go today and pick up some new ones, hopefully DD and then go from there. I don't know where to find the bigger bras - I have always been at a loss there. After the baby making days are done, I will be looking into getting a reduction - something I have wanted for a long time.
Sorry you didn't get to go on the whitewater rafting trip - but it was for good reason ;)
HOPE YOU ARE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEKEND!!

TheFuture: I am more than happy to miss the trip, we are already planning for next year at this time, when the great grandparents can babysit. I am already planning the reduction, although I don't know if I'll only make it through one baby or if I can hold out for two.
Hi everyone, Wow this thread really gets away from you when you miss a day or two. I went to the Dr. on THursday and he gave me a perscription for the m/s. It has helped a lot, I can finnally keep some food down. I still don't feel great but at least it's eased up some now. Other then that I'm pretty tired, and growing BBs.
Bras: Right now I think I'm just going to buy 1 or 2 of the next size up, If they get any bigger I'll switch to maternity bras.
4th of July: Unfortunately I work in TV news so I will be working all weekend as well as Monday. :( But I'll pick up a comp day to use when I want to.
Happy weekends!! :) :D :)

Hi Ladies- just popping in real quick to comment on bras.
I'm normally a large B, small C (I had reduction surgery 8 years ago and used to be a 34 DD and that was tight), and was in a 34 E for nursing last time around. I was a D, bordering on DD towards the end of pregnancy, and then got bigger when my milk came in. Don't go too crazy buying bras, because you may change quite a bit in the next year.
For regular bras, if you're really on the big size, figleaves.com has some great bras in odd sizes (my mom's a 32D- very hard to find in the stores and gets hers there). I also didn't buy nursing bras until a few weeks before my due date. I'm going to try and find some better quality ones next time around. Saving money on bras when you're over a C cup is not a good idea- they just get trashed so quickly.

hi girls
just a quick note to say hi. I have my niece's 1st b-day party today at my sister's house. Tomorrow for the 4th, we have tickets for a baseball game - the Somerset Patriots-a minor league ball team in NJ. We got box seats from my dh's job. So that should be fun. Hp[efully, we can use the pool in our develpment tomorrow afternoon (even though I look like fudgy the whale in a suit). It's been so hard finding the time to relax by the pool.
QOTD- I am stuffing myself into my bras. i just cannot spend the $$ yet on new bras. Plus I also borrowed some of my sisters old maternity clothes and some bras. We'll see if it gets me through.
Have a great 4th!!!!

Good Morning Ladies,
Thank you for all your thoughts!
I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend. Tomorrow is my first apt with the doctor. My DH will be there with me, silly guy took the whole day off.
I am getting ready to do something about my growing girls. I am a C, but right now I feel like a D. I really do need to get measured! ;)

First OB appointment 6/7/05.
I called my doctor's office this morning to let them know I got a BFP and said I needed to schedule my first appointment. I was not expecting them to fit me in tomorrow! I am nervous even though there really isn't anything to be nervous about. I have to bring my DD with me and made sure that wouldn't be a problem and I really hope she behaves. I think she will, she's fairly well behaved most of the time when we're out but I don't know how she's going to react to them drawing blood and doing an exam. I am going to be sure to bring plenty of books, maybe a puzzle or two and some colorwonder paper and markers so she can draw.

Hello everyone ---
We had a great weekend. Telling the families went very well!
Right after I had taken a shower on Saturday night, SIL called and asked if we wanted to go and get some ice cream with her, MIL, and MIL’s fiancé. So we said sure and decided to take two of the picture frames with us to tell MIL and SIL about the babe that night. Of course, I didn’t have them ready so I rushed to get them done and hubby wrapped them while I got dressed.
I wish I had pics but I was rushing so I forgot to take them. But, MIL’s frame had three spaces for pictures and I put in one space:
First Comes Love……………….
And in the second space:
Second Comes Marriage………
And in the 3rd and big space:
…Then Comes a Baby Carriage
http://d21c.com/AnnesPlace/Baby/BabyCarriage2b.gif
2/22/2006
We had given SIL a 3.5” X 5” frame like this:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d924b3127cce92c35af62c5c00000016109AYuWbVu4aO
Then I put little baby footprints on the side. All of the other frames that we gave out were exactly like the one we gave SIL’s.
Sidenote: BIL and his wife are pg and due Jan 16. His wife already had a 4 yr old daughter from a previous relationship when they got married in October 04.
So, we walk into MIL’s with these gifts and hubby announces that we have 4th of July presents! Immediately SIL knows something is up but doesn’t say anything because MIL has no clue. MIL opens up her box and looks at the frame. She is like, “Oh, that’s nice.” LOL, I was about cracking up! SIL says, “Did you read it? You need to read it!” MIL keeps looking at it and she says, “I thought it was for BIL and his wife.” Now, why in the world would I buy MIL a frame for BIL and his wife’s baby, who knows, but whatever. SIL and I both say in unison, “NO!” Then, it clicked. Her whole face lit up and she screamed, “OH!” a few times. Then it was hugs all around. She did say, “When it rains, it pours!” Then she said the teeter totter she has in the shed will have both sides full next year. Then that was it! We got ice cream and chatted about houses and then headed home.
On Sunday afternoon, we headed over to MIL’s for a 4th of July picnic. We took the rest of the frames with us. We weren’t sure who was going to be there and when they were going to show up so we were kind of playing the whole thing by ear. The first guest was a dear family friend. She chatted with SIL and I while we worked in the kitchen, the BIL, his wife, and niece showed up. We’re all in the kitchen and hubby gives them their 4th of July gift. Niece is opening it and she sees it is a picture frame and she says , “We can put a picture of my little brother or sister in there.” I kind of sing songed a, “I don’t think so.” So, BIL finished opening the frame and then it clicked. They were like, “Wow! That is awesome.” BIL was impressed with the frame and the mode of the delivery of the news probably because they just blurted out the news themselves. The dear family friend was very excited for us and I was happy that she was there and got to share in the family news. So….
Side note: BIL and his wife had not told the Gmas that they were pg yet.
Then Gma G arrives. This is the Gma who has pressured us from day one for a great grandchild, so I knew she was going to be Thrilled. She sat down at the table and hubby gives her her 4th of July gift. She immediately smiles and wants to know if the blue paper means anything. She opens it and she grinned from ear to ear and that grin did not leave her face until she left. It was too funny. While she was opening the gift, I saw BIL’s wife frantically go outside to get him and I knew they were going to tell her their news. I did NOT want their news and our news to be piggy backed together into double whammy news for the Gmas, but what were we supposed to do? We couldn’t stop them from saying anything. I wanted us to tell our news without being overshadowed by theirs, kwim? This is where the picture frames came in handy. Since we had the frames and were really organized as to what we were going to do, our news came out first and they followed. They didn’t HAVE to follow, but they did, and I didn’t feel the least bit like I was in 2nd place.
After Gma G opens the gift, she is sitting there grinning and BIL comes in. His wife was already standing there. So Gma G starts and says, “So is niece next to get a little sibling?” And BIL’s wife says, “Well, I think she’s going to be first!” Gma was like WHAT? And BIL’s wife says, “We’re due in January.” Gma was like, “No kidding!” It was actually pretty funny.
Then Gma H arrives with hubby’s uncle and aunt who travel around in this ginormous motor home and were in town. Most of us were all sitting in the living room and hubby gives Gma H her gift. She opens it and she is really quiet reading it. Hubby is like, “Do you know what it means?” And hubby’s uncle says, “They’re trying to tell you something!” She says, “I know! Well that’s great!” I’m not sure how the rest of this went down but somehow I hear MIL saying, “If you are going to have a baby, raise your hand.” And 4 hands went up. Hubby’s aunt looked at BIL and his wife and said, “You guys too?!?” And they said, “Yeah!” And everybody was laughing. It went so well!
I sat down by Gma H later and she gave me a big kiss and said in the most genuine voice ever, "I am just so very happy for you." I almost broke down in tears right then and there. I just love her. I walked Gma G out to her car when she left and she held my arm the whole way and told me how excited she was.
On Monday, we went down to my sister’s to celebrate my mom’s birthday. Whenever you get a gift from us, you KNOW you have to open the box. We use all sorts of boxes to wrap things in and what is on the box is never necessarily what is in the box. I had bought a Grandkids photo album and put pictures of all of the grandkids in it plus a “Reserved” spot for the babe. I wrapped it up and put in the middle of her other gifts. She opens it and opens the box. I didn’t even have to prompt her to open the album to look at the pictures I had put in there. My heart was pounding when she got to the “Reserved” space. She just stopped and looked at it and then she says, “Are you serious?” I just nodded. She said, “This isn’t a joke?” I said, “Nope.” She kind of breathed a sigh of relief and said, “I didn’t think I was going to get to be a Grandma again.” Then she goes, “Was it an oops?” Ha ha, I shook my head no. And she was like, “Congratulations!” I honestly think she is still in shock! Meanwhile, my sister hadn’t told my 15 yr old nephew who was sitting there with his eyes bugged out of his head. It was hilarious! She had told my 11 yr old niece who brought us out a little gift bag. Inside were two little outfits and a baby scrapbook. So cute! Then they wanted to know when they could have my baby shower. Ok, so one confirmed. I suspect I’m going to be having 3 showers (my fam, IL’s, and church). A bit excessive but I am surely not going to complain! They were thinking between Christmas and New Year’s. I don’t know though—would the beginning of January be better? Gotta think on that.
Bras
How come the boob fairy hasn’t visited me yet? ;) LOL, believe me, I am not complaining! I have noticed a wee bit of a difference but nothing to force me to buy new bras yet. I have also noticed that the aerola (sp?) seems to have overtaken the rest of the bb which is interesting.
aligirl What a bunghole that guy is! I don’t understand why people think it is their duty to tell the whole world that you are pg, especially people at work. Ugh, I feel for you!
Kellymb75 Hope your appointment goes well!
Anyway, now that I have yacked everyone’s ears off, I shall run!

Hi girls. I had my first u/s yesterday. It was awesome. No...I did nto have the dildo cam - phew. We got to see the little baby and to hear its heartbeat. 169 beats per minute. Rumor has it that a high hearbeat means girl. We'll find ot in February. I have an appt withthe doctor this afternoon to go over the u/s results. I actually gotta boogie!!!!
Mindy Love the picture frames and the way you told the family!!!

angelgirl - they look beautiful!!! Although it took me a second to understand there are two in there!!!
Mindy - Isn't it fun telling people. We get to tell a close friend of mine this weekend and my aunt, who will be thrilled. We also told my Benny's grandfather this weekend at a family wedding and he was so darn cute. First thing he said was "How are you feeling?" They were just thrilled and so happy.
Lucy - I had to buy new bras this weekend. Went from a large 32-34 C to 34D. They really do look fabulous, though!!!
A-lo Glad to hear you are felling better. I still have managed to avoid the m/s bug for some unknown reason, although my mom was not sick at all when she was pregnant.
Not too much going on with me, pg-wise. I'm incredibly tired, but we also drove to SF and back to LA for a wedding this weekend so that could explain it.
GREAT NEWS FOR ME - I took a new job yesterday!! I'm really excited about it and they know I am pg and still hired me. It's a 30% raise so maybe we can actuall afford daycare now?!?!?!
It also means we have to move which kind of sucks, but we need to anyway. So that's that from here. Last day of this job July 21!!!
We are also headed to the beach for four days with my family this Saturday-Wednesday so I am looking forward to sleeping in and relaxing as much as I want to!!

angelgirl - The babies look great! Thanks for sharing more pix of your little ones! :)
meatpie - Congrats on the new job! And I'm so jealous of your long weekend - sleeping for four days straight sounds really good right about now...
roe - Glad to hear the appt went well! How exciting to see your little one and hear the heartbeat! So does your comment mean that you are planning to wait until the baby's born to find out the sex?
Mindy - The picture frames you gave out are sooo cute! And I love hearing all the announcement stories - how fun! :)
Lucy and Kelly - I hope both of your appts go well tomorrow!
As for me... still anxiously awaiting my first appt next week. I think I might call the office to find out what they normally do at these appts - I thought the receptionist said something about an u/s and a heartbeat but then she said my 1st appt is with the physician's assistant, not the physician - so that doesn't make sense does it? Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part. I'm just dying to check on this little one and make sure he's doing okay!
Ask and ye shall receive... Morning sickness has finally kicked in. I know I practically begged for the symptom, but gosh, it's not much fun, is it? Sorry to those of you that have been suffering w/it for so long already!
Question - What remedies (if any) have you had success with for m/s? I was thinking of trying some of those preggie pops but was curious to see what else people have tried??

Astro - Congrats and congrats!!!! Wow twins!
Mindy - Loved the way you told your family. The frame is so cute and also loved your other idea with the photo album. If DH didn't tell Ils right away I probably would have loved to told our family in a special way too.
Angelgirl -Your u/s pic looks great. Congrats on your twins also!
Meatpie - Congrats on your new job! Awesome. Hope you don't have to move too far. Keep us updated.
Tinagirl - As for the m/s, the main thing I have been doing is trying to eat what sounds good to me. My Dr said that if you eat something that sounds good you're more likely to hold it down. Also crackers have helped. Some people recommended eating some in the morning before getting up. But since my m/s was worse at night, I would snack on them more at night. Dairy products helped me too. I felt better in the morning when I had a glass of milk and yogurt. I also heard protein is suppose to help too. I know this is bad but I would actually lie down after eating at night. I would get heartburn and stuff but I wouldn't vomit though. And also try eating more smaller meals than 3 big meals. Oh, my mom told me to try not to eat fruits in the evening. And then I got a call from my MIL telling me to eat more fruits. I don't know. I've gotten advice from everyone.
My m/s seems to be getting better. It hits me more now in the evening than any other time. So I usually try to eat something and then head straight for bed. But I haven't thrown up in a while. So I feel better about that. I'm still nauseous all the time though. So I feel like I'm starving all the time but everything doesn't sound good to me. It's just the weirdest feeling.
4th - Didn't really do anything this weekend. Went to Ribfest in a west suburb of Chicago Saturday. Saw DH's cousin band play there and got some grub. And that's about it. Sunday I pretty much stayed in bed all day. And Monday did some chores around the house and saw fireworks on TV. I think this was the first year I didn't actually go somewhere to see fireworks. But with the m/s I don't want to do anything these days. Oh, I did go see my White Sox play last night. It was an awesome game! I can't believe the year they are having. And my fav Frank Thomas hit the game winning Home Run. Sweet!
BBs - Well, although mine are swollen, I don't need a new bra. Although the underwires hurt a lot more now. I am a small B so I really fill my bra now. But I might want to start wearing a sports bra since my bbs are sore around where the underwires are. Does anyone else have this problem?
AGGGHHH! I lost my waist today! I can't believe it would happen this early, my clothes are tight and I can't even wear any of my jeans anymore. I have my next Dr. Appt. On 7/15. He wanted to see me early because of the severe nausea. I still have to get my blood work done. I had no tests of any kind done at my 1st appt. They also said I would only have 1 or 2 U/S later in the pregnancy. Oh well.
MeatpieCongrats on the new job!! Glad you don't have m/s. I've heard that pg can be similar to your mothers. My mom was sick with me for 3 months.
Angelgirl8I'm on Zofran too! It's been a lifesaver. I have to take it once a day or I'll never make it through. My AUnt, who is an OB nurse, said that it was a good med and not to worry about taking it too much, it's benifits way out way the risks.

Hi to everyone. Hope you're all doing well and the boob and nausea fairies haven't been too unkind ;)
A-Lo Sorry about your waist, that's really early for it to disappear
marios-girl My morning sickness is much worse in the evening too. My poor DH comes home and half the time he has to fend for himself for dinner because I can't face the kitchen  I've not yet thrown up, but the nausea is shocking.
angelgirl Fabulous ultrasounds :D Good for you for getting the Zofran to kick the m/s.
I'm having some pretty bad nausea, and the boob fairy has decided to visit my already Dcups. This I do not need :D Had an u/s last week, saw one baby only which I'm pleased about. My RE signs me off next Monday and my first obstetrician appt is on July 29. I'll be doing all the prenatal testing(I'm 39 so there are some obvious risks) in the next couple of weeks, so that'll hopefully go well.

AusMarchBride: Sorry about the nausea- it stinks. Mine has gotten significantly better in the past week or two (hoping that's not a bad sign). What testing are they doing this early?
A-lo: I've noticed the same thing about my waist. We haven't told most people and over the weekend I went to get a pedicure with my mom (she knows) and MIL (she doesn't know). I walked by a mirror in the mall and was shocked. I definately looked pudgy around the middle. I noticed the same thing yesturday while I was at work. I don't know how I'm going to hide this for another 3 weeks.
tinagirl: Hope the nausea doesn't stick around long. My best remedy for m/s was to eat. First thing in the morning, if I ate before I really felt hungry (usually a bland cereal and milk), it seemed to curb the nausea. Of course, I have to continually eat small meals all day, and it helps keep it at bay. I even have a pack of saltine crackers in my car just in case.
angelgirl8: Yeah for m/s drugs. Glad you got something to help you. Maybe you'll only need it for a few weeks. Love the ultrasound- you can see two babies so clearly.
meatpie: What type of new job did you take? Something in your field, or a new career path? That's great they hired you even though they knew you were pregnant. I know legally they should, but I also know many companies will find a reason not to hire a pregnant woman. Enjoy the beach. We took one last couple vacation before Mia came along. Unfortunately it was with my 6 nieces and nephews, and they would bang on our bedroom door at 6:30 to come out and play :( . Oh, well.
roe: It's so nice to have confirmation of the pregnancy. Did you get some pics? Unfortunately I have to wait another 2 and a half weeks to hear the heartbeat.
Mindy: Love the way you told everyone. We sent everyone Valentines Day cards from the baby last time around (a lot of our family is out of town). This time we're having our parents over for dinner and putting Mia in a big sister t-shirt. I wonder how long it'll take everyone to notice  .
Not much going on around here. I've definately lost my waist. I love my maternity pants from old navy that look like normal pants, but have the adjustable waist. I can be comfortable and hide the pregnancy. I went to my nephews baseball game the other day with them on, and MIL wanted to know where I got them. Mmmmm, I don't think you really want these pants at your age :p . I've had a few really bad headaches lately. THat and the morning sickness easing up, really have me nervous. I usually only get headaches around AF, and only had a few mild ones with Mia. I guess I just have to wait it out until my next appt to find out if everything's OK. It's so hard to be patient. Unfortunately if I called my doc, they'd just laugh at me. They're so busy, they don't have time to hold my hand just because I'm extra nervous from the miscarriage. I guess my expanding waist line will have to do for now.

A-lo & jay&erinn - I have lost my waist a while ago. I can only where my stretch jeans now. Thank goodness for those. I think I may have to start looking for maternity pants at least too. My belly looks so pudgy. But I haven't gained any weight though. Because of the m/s I actually lost a couple pounds. Hopefully that's okay.
jay&erinn - Sorry to hear about your headaches. I have had a couple myself. I totally understand you worrying as I do with everything myself after a m/c. But my receptionist had severe headaches a week ago and she seems to be fine now. She's 3 months farther along than I am. So hopefully it's nothing to be worried about.
AusMarchBride - I know I feel bad for my DH also. But he's use to making dinner. He actually likes to cook and I am so lucky for that. It's just now I feel bad because I basically make him make dinner now almost every night because I just can't think about dinner at night. Between the nausea and extreme fatigue, I ust can't get myself to do anthing around the house anymore.
Hope all the tests go well for you.
Vent - Okay, so my DH & I are having this huge housewarming party this weekend. I mean we're looking at almost 100 people if everyone shows up. Now when we sent out the invites I wasn't that far along at all (really we had just found out) and didn't have this extreme fatigue and nausea, otherwise I think we might have pushed the date farther along. Only a handful of people know about us. And a part of me wants to tell everyone our news and another part doesn't. After the last m/c it was devastating telling everyone. So we're going to try really hard not to this weekend. But I totally feel bad since my DH has been taking care of a lot of things for our party. I felt like I haven't done anything and our house is so not in a state I wish for our friends and family not to see right now. I haven't done a majority of chores in a while. So not loooking forward to the next couple nights where I will be up cleaning the house.
Anyway, I just wanted to vent a little. I just hope I get through this weekend. I think I would have felt better if I had my second appt but my next appt is Monday 7/11. I would feel better if I knew that everything was going okay, ya know. Plus I pray that I feel well enough to entertain this weekend. I think some people will notice that I'm not my usual self. And we've already been to parties recently where we just told people I wasn't feeling good. I wonder if some people have pieced it together or not. Plus I have SIL's bridal shower on Sunday so it's going to be one long weekend.
London - I was in shock with the news this morning. I was having belly aches too watching it. I was telling DH that the baby wasn't happy about hearing what was going on. It's just so sad that we live in a world like this. My heart and thoughts go out to all those victims and their families.

Well, Kaiser called and moved my first u/s from July 11 to July 15. I'm not too happy about that but what am I going to do? I'll just have to wait.
roe
Thanks! I think the frames really went over well and helped to make people feel involved and special.
angelgirl
Beautiful babies you have there! No boob fairy for you either, huh? I am definitely not complaining as I don’t want to go and buy new bras, but it does make you wonder. I’m glad I’m not the only one! I’m also glad you got something for the nausea!
meatpie
Yup, I am definitely enjoying telling people. I like to see their faces as the realization hits! Congrats on the new job! That is awesome news! Have fun at the beach. That sounds heavenly.
tinagirl
I know the feeling about wanting a u/s and/or hearing the heartbeat. We haven’t had either yet and I am about dying to see what is going on in there and to make sure everything is going well. I would think that you would be able to hear the heartbeat at your appointment since you’ll be around 8 weeks, right? I would think if you are getting an u/s, they would give you instructions on what you need to do beforehand. They told me I need to drink 28 oz of water an hour before the appt and not use the bathroom. Yeah, that is going to hurt!
marios_girl
Well, I’m glad to hear you haven’t thrown up in a while. I know the feeling of being nauseaus and hungry all at the same time. It’s bizarre, isn’t it?
Hey, don’t feel bad about your DH doing a lot of the chores and party prep. It’s completely normal. My hubby has cooked dinner just about every night lately. In any event, I hope you get through the busy weekend alright without spilling the news!
A-lo
You lost your waist?!? Hey, don’t feel badly. I know I am not going to stick myself into my jeans that were tight. No way! Comfort is a huge thing right now! And at least we have good excuses!
Ann
I’m sorry about the nausea, but only a few more weeks of it, right? (or so they say!) That is awesome news about your u/s!
jay&erinn
Love the Valentine’s card idea! That is great. I also love the big sister t-shirt. I think it’d be fun to see how long it takes ‘til someone notices! I have been reading a lot lately that when the placenta takes over, a lot of pg ladies lose their symptoms, and I think you are about at that point. I know nothing really takes the worry away, but I hope that helped a bit. Those pants sound heavenly!
M/S Remedies
I haven’t really had it badly, but mostly I have been making sure something is in my stomach and I am eating what I am hungry for no matter how weird it is.

jay&erinn, A-lo, angelgirl8, tinagirl26, marios_girl - Thanks for asking about the job. It's working for a private school in alumnae relations and fundraising so I am thrilled. Right now I'm at a nonprofit continuing education so I'm happy to stay in education. We won't have to move too far, but we need to anyway. We don't have laundry in our apartment, need more closet space and a better parking situation. Just mroe stuff to worry about before Benny Jr gets here!!!
London Shocked me as well. My first thought (since we moved to LA from NY) was that the NYC subways are next. Of course I used to ride the subway everyday when we lived there. It's just so incredibly sad.
It's so interseting How different all our experiences are w/ pregnancy even this early. Some lising the waist I noticed this am it looks a bit different, but I don't have the clothes issue yet), bigger boobs vs. not, m/s vs. not. But I am so thankful to have this place to come to!!!
Beach time I can't WAIT to get away on Saturday and relax and READ FOR PLEASURE!!!
Book recommendation My sister got me a book/journal called "My Pregnancy Journal" or something like that and it's wonderful. Goes day by day and reminds you of good foods to eat, how much water to drink and especially the changes that are happening with the baby. Although everytime I read about the tail disappearing I think of the movie Shallow Hal and the character who still had a tail - FREAKS ME OUT!!!

Still fatigued here... but that's OK.
I'm thinking that we'll start a new thread (i'm thinking WAY ahead here) in about 3 weeks when some of us start to enter into the second trimester :D Um, not really planning on being the owner of that one so I'll use the old "Feb2006Moms" logon and hope that *someone* kindly volunteers to be the owner for the next trimester.
The London bombings shocked me too..... Scary. I've been flying so much lately that it freaks me out - I know, the bombs affected mass transit -- but trains go right into the airports.... Plus, Jay is flying tonight to see me in Philadelphia. I just can't believe the things people do. It's utterly amazing and not in a good way. I've been reading BBC news today to see what's going on .... it's nice that Londoners are pulling together. I just wish they could've spent the next few days celebrating the Olympics and not mourning their family & friends.

Book Recommendation : It doesn't give very good info, but will make you smile- The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy. It gives a nice, more relaxed take on pregnancy. I didn't read too much technical stuff since it tended to freak me out a little.
meatpie: I'm jealous. {{me whining}} I wanna go to the beach!!!
London : Everytime something bad happens, I question our decision to bring children into this world. So many people hate so much. I just don't understand it. I'm trying to look at having kids as a way of changing it one child at a time.
Question : Just wondering what everyone does for a living, and if you plan on going back to work after the baby arrives.
I'm an audiologist and work for a local (5 minutes from my house) ear, nose and throat doctor. I do hearing tests on people of all ages, fit hearing aids and do balance testing. I went down to part time after Mia was born, and will remain part time after the new baby arrives.
Argh. I am on withdrawl... I can't access this site from work.
I am glad to hear that everyone is doing well, and I LOVE the baby pictures!
I have two book reccomendations... One is From Conception to Birth (AMAZING BOOK), and the other is A Child Is Born. I love both of these books because they show photos of the embryo in the different development stages. We have been tracking development day by day. It is SO fun to know that this week we get fingers!!!
Any type of nausea for me is starting to go away, and aside from being tired I am feeling great. Hopefully this lasts, and I have not just jinxed myself... :)

Just got back from the latest RE visit. We've been going to the RE because we had to go through IVF to get pregnant. We're pregnant with twins. This week we got to see them yet again on the ultrasound. The RE is thrilled with their progress and heartbeats. Both hearts are beating along like crazy, the babies are about the same size, the sacks are about the same size, everything is good. We have now been released from the RE to go back to my regular OB. Kind of scares the crap out of me. The parting words from the RE were... Ok, now I've given you a couple pics of your twins (ultrasound pics), and I expect a few from you when they're born. :D Made me all happy to know she was so optimistic about our outcome.
Books: I also like The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy. Great book, sarcastic, funny, but also doesn't try to make anything sound sugar coated. The other book like is When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads by Dr Barbara Luke.
Living Both my husband and I work with computers. We originally planned on me taking a couple months off of work after the baby arrived. Since there are now two babies, our plans are changing. We don't think it makes sense financially for us to put two babies in day care. If we pay for two babies in day care because both of us are working, we'll be in a higher tax bracket. We figure with only 1 working, we're in a lower tax bracket and might be able to afford my staying home for a while.
Symptoms So far the boob fairy has been a snot and visited. I was a 38D, now over filling a 40DD. I wish I could send her to someone else. Waist has disappeared. About a week or two ago I bought a larger size pair of jeans. Thank god for those jeans. :) The only other thing is I'm more tired lately. Other than that, nothing much going on over here. No MS yet. I'm wondering if I can trade someone some boobs for a little MS. I'd like to feel pregnant. ;)

I had my first appointment yesterday. It was a boring old appointment. My first appointment with my last pregnancy was very exciting since we had an u/s, that didn't happen and I don't think I'll get one until around 20 weeks this time. Oh well, I'm trying not to get upset over that. It just sucks to have an u/s from when DD was just starting to form and not have one for this baby. My next appointments is August 9th since I'll be out of town the last week in July and first week in August. They gave me an EDD of February 25, 2006 which is just a day off of what I figured but I think it might change once I finally do have an u/s since I think I ovulated late the month we conceived.
The boob fairy has been by here in a BIG way. DH came to the appointment with me yesterday and as I was changing to get ready for the exam he even commented on how large they've gotten in the last week or so. I got measured yesterday and I've gone up in a cup size and a band size (no clue if that's normal since I didn't really get huge last pregnancy and need new bras during pregnancy).
I'm a SAHM and have been since before DD was born. I was around 20 weeks pregnant when we moved here (different state) and we knew I was going to be a SAHM so I didn't get a job since I didn't feel right getting a job and then leaving a few months later not to return. My last job though before moving was a mortgage analyst.

First appointment.... x-posted from my journal
Yesterday was the most horrific day of my life, but at the same time it was the most wonderful? Funny, how that can happen in the same day.
I get to the doctors office, I pee in a cup, I get blood drawn (5 tubes!). I get another Pap smear (why?, I don't know just got one last week at the hospital), Pelvic exam...then doctor finds a small tear, irritated area in my cervix...he lets me know, gets quiet, but continues on checking me.
They find some sugar in my urine. They asked what I ate and what time. I guess eating frosted flakes and hour before the appt is a bad idea. They poke my finger and do a sugar test. They tell me I might be borderline diabetic, but unsure, since I didn't show anything last week. They are going to start monitoring my sugar levels.
Back to my cervix...he wants to do an ultrasound ASAP, even though my betas are going up, he was unsure if there was a baby at all...in other words something dead. I started to cry, was hysterical. This is at 11:30am or so, the nurse tries to console me and tells me to drink 32 oz of water ASAP, which I chugged down with no problem, and thank God Ryan was with me. The ultrasound is sheduled at 1pm. IT was the worst 1.5 hour of my life. Ryan kept telling me to think positive. I couldn't I was scared, worried, horrified. My baby might be dead. On the paperwork/diagnosis they put the words "Threated Abortion" I think that made it even worse. I call work and let them know what is going on. They are so worried about me and told me to let them know what happens and to take all the time I need. Ryan calls my MIL. My IL's are to meet us at the hospital, they want to be there, they are worried.
Once we get to the hospital, I have my ultrasound and she said, there it is. I said, "IT'S STILL THERE???""" She said, "Yes, why wouldn't it be?" I tell her my episode at the doctor, she gives me a concerned look, and said not to worry, because the baby was there and alive and my insides look excellent.
We SAW the heartbeat!! 144 bmp!!!!!!!! I am 7 weeks and 2 days according the baby's measurements.
She continues to check my all over, she said she didn't see anything to be concerned with and she went out to call my doctor. She said the doctor just wanted to know if there was a heartbeat, and if there was then that he would see me at my next appt with is next Thursday 7/14.
So there you have it, after all the hysteria, I am still very preggo and a little miracle is in me. We saw our little slug!!!
My IL's are happy and they even got a picture of our baby. I am going to try to post a picture of my ultrasound next.
Right now, I am debating if I should keep this doctor or not...any advise???
for some reason, I can't access anything else on the site, I can't see anyones replies, I hope everything is going good ... other than Ali's above...anyone know what is going on??

O.k. I'm new and haven't posted my stats yet but how could I after that emotional day you had! My goodness. Sounds like it was horrible. I don't understand why doctors don't get the panic that they cause. And I am so happy that everything is o.k.
As far as changing doctors - how long have you had him? Is this your first experience with him?? Or do you have a long history with him? The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and trust him- and if you don't then you should change.

EDD: February 16, 2006
First doctor's appointment: July 14th and I can NOT wait. :) Didn't want to add another thread since I'm brand new and all, but just wanted to add. I'm 8 weeks and 1 day pregnant (according to Webmd) I have had horrible MS and I think I'm actually losing weight since I hardly eat anything anymore. which is worrisome. The boob fairy is starting to come- and i had C cups already so I'm not that pleased with that development. (ha!) I work in public relations and am leaving my current job to become a contractor at my old job. The contract will end at the end of December -so I will probably just take some time off and have the baby and then take six months or so before I start to look for another job. We'll see.

Hi all! Not much to report here. The fatigue has gotten a little worse, but the m/s is still very mild. The evil gas witch visited me yesterday. Ouch! Note to self: put Gas Aid in bag!

Oh my goodness! What a roller coaster ride you had. Wow, I am SO happy to hear that everything is fine and there is nothing to worry about. Whew!
Hey LooLoo! Glad you made it over!

That is so good to hear about your little twins! I'm glad they are doing well. Good friends of ours had twins in December 2003 and they are the most adorable little things. They had their hands full at first though and it really took 2 people to feed, change and bathe them. Fortunately, the hubby was on Christmas vacation from school (he is a teacher) and they had lots of help! I loved it because hubby and I didn't have to fight over the baby, we could each have one to hold! ;) Our friends are pg with their 3rd child so the twins apparently didn't scare them off. :D
Hello to everyone else! Hope everyone is doing well.
Job Status I am currently a legal assistant. My hubby and I also have a landscape company and we have 2 rentals and are looking to expand our landlord empire more shortly. I will not work full time after the babe arrives, but I have not yet ruled out working 2 days a week. I guess I will figure it out after I tell my boss which won't be for a little while. (although I think he is starting to wonder about the dr's appts!)

First off- holy twins!!! Congrats to tou girls with the twins. That is great.
Re; U/S pic. I got one pic but am still working on scanning it in. Hopefully I can get to it this weekend.
I also went to the dr. on wed. afternoon. i was there forever. They weighed me (holy crap- can you say heffer), took my b/p, did a pap, and drew tons of blood. I have not heard anything yet and no news is good news. i was surprised by the pap bc i did not plan on getting naked. now i am good until next July.
I am also a legal assistant/paralegal. I enjoy the job on most days but sometimes the attornyes are so darn co-dependent that I have no time to post on the message boards :o

I work about 15 minutes from home. On the way in to work something felt wrong. By the time I got out of my car I was cramping so bad I could barely walk. I made it to the restroom to find out I'd filled a maxipad with blood. I called my DH and Drs office. They had me come right in (I love those guys). Went in immediately for an US. The nurse and Dr still saw the hearts beating. The worst day got better. Looks like the twins are ok, I'm bleeding around the placentas. The Dr said it could continue all weekend. I'm on bedrest till Monday, then another Dr appointment.
So the day went from knowing I'd lost the twins, to finding out they were ok, to being put on bedrest and waiting till Monday.
That's it for now.

Hi ladies - sorry to hear about the recent scares that some of you have been having, but it's nice to know that things seem to be alright.
Hope everyone is planning on having a good weekend!!
__________________________________________________
Well - for the most part, I have been feeling pretty well.
On Tues and Wed mornings, I had to deal with a little bit of nauseousness that lasted until about 12noon or so. But, I didn't throw up or anything. For the last few days I have been feeling great - no sign of m/s at all.
I am still having some cramping and bloating - but it comes and goes about every other day it seems. The nips are still a little tender.
As I mentioned last week, the boob fairy has stopped by, not to excited about that. I already have a D cup - don't really need anymore. Oh well, not much I can do about that.
No MS yet. I'm wondering if I can trade someone some boobs for a little MS. I'd like to feel pregnant.
I'll just give you my boobs. No trade needed!!
I am still patiently waiting for my dr. appt on July 28. I will be 9w4d for my first appt - wish they could have gotten me in a little sooner but, I guess that was when the dr. was available.
Have a great weekend ladies!!! C-ya.

Hi Ladies! Work has been so hectic that I haven't been able to stay in the loop here but I think things are settling down now. :) I had my first doctor's appointment on Friday. My regular doctor was on vacation and I was happy with his substitute but I left there with a few questions. I forgot to ask(and he didnt tell me)what my due date is! He says I'm 7 weeks but I pretty much know when we conceived and that puts me at 8 weeks so now I'm confused about that. Also, I was expecting some paperwork on what I can/can't eat but I didn't get that. I have an idea from what I've read online but I expected to get that kind of stuff from the doctor. Their paperwork basically said to eat healthy, balanced meals and take the pre-natal and you'll be fine. Guess I would have liked a bit more info. ;) He said everything looks good so I was happy to hear that!
The nausea has gotten better and for once yesterday, I didn't feel so tired. I spent all of Saturday in bed though! :D
Next appointment is for August 4th with the same doctor because once again my regular one is on vacation!!
How's everyone feeling?

Astro & Lucy: I'm so sorry to hear about your scares, but very happy to hear you are doing good!
I had my first Dr.'s appointment on Friday. She said everything looks good. Took 6 vials of blood!!! I am scheduled for my u/s in a week on 7/18 and my next Dr.'s appt on 8/4. My official due date is now 2/26/06 of course that could change with the u/s.
I've been getting a bit of m/s and have to keep crackers or granola bars in the car with me. This morning I could hardly get up.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi Ladies, hope everyone is doing well.
I had my sign off appointment with my RE today, she reviewed the U/S results from end of June and said all looks great :D Heartbeat, size etc was all spot on, so that's good to have reconfirmed even though I sorta knew all that from the U/S technician.
I have my first OB appt on July 29, which seems like forever away
Am doing ok, still hideously nauseous though. Haven't thrown up, don't think that will happen, I just have nausea from the moment I open my eyes until I shut them at the end of the day  Nevermind, I have no doubt I'll survive. I told my RE today about the nausea, she just laughed and said "It's all good, I hope you have the sore boobs too" :D
To those of you who have had scares/spotting, I send many hugs and good thoughts. Astro (I know your details from the IVF thread), rest up and hope today's Dr visit gives you the reassurance that all is ok with your bubs.

good morning. i hope you all had a good weekend. Ours was good. We have a family bbq on saturyday w/ dh's family. Just a little background- I am catholic and dh is jewish. We pretty much decided to raise the kids catholic (bottom line - I will be the one taking the kids to any sort of religeion class and i know how to get to the church not the temple ;) ). Anyway at the bbq, dh's cousin asked me about baby names, etc. Then she asked is we had a hebrew name picked for the baby. I said no and she said we shoud not wate time we need to pick one. I kept quiet after that. I just thought it was bizarre that she assumed our baby would be raised jewish. Especially bc the jewish people belive the child is whateve the mother is. Therefore, the child is catholic. Anyway, dh and i have amicably worked it out. I just hope we don't have to deal with extended fammily telling us what to do...
On Sunday I went to a baby shower for my friend Wendy who is due on August 10. She is doing great. They had a brunch and I was eating some bacon- when my other friend who had a baby 6 months ago told me not to eat the bacon bc it contained nitrates. has anyone been told not to eat bacon?. I was a little annoyed by the unsoliciated advice bc i promised myself i would only listen to the advice of my dr. since everyone and their mother will have Dos and Don'ts for us. Anyway, I felt guilty eating the bacon in front of her so i pushed it aside.

Realized I missed the QOTD:
Currently I work as the Communications Manager for a Business Events firm in CT. I also handle all of their accounting and operations. I'm not sure what I will do after the baby. I work from home so I have quite a bit of flexiblity, but I may go down to part-time.

QOTD: I'm an analyst for a very large government contractor. I work in the finance division of the company, on Navy programs now (used to work on Army programs) and am working on a proposal for an Air Force contract. After the baby comes, I'd like to work part-time. My plan is to pitch to my bosses (and I think they're amenable to the plan) that I work either part-time so I'd be at work 4 days a week OR they let me go "virtual" and work from home 3-4 days per week, in the office 1-2 days per week. Option #2 is ideal to me but we'll see what they say.
Astro: I hope everyone's still OK. Hopefully the bedrest paid off and you're not bleeding any more.
Lucy: Sorry about the scare you had!! I'm glad you're doing well!!!
LooLoo02: Welcome :D
roe6373: Speaking of unsolicited advice... I know we're supposed to limit the amount of nitrates we eat but having an occasional piece of bacon or hot dog isn't going to hurt anyone. My cousin told me on Sunday that I shouldn't eat cold cuts because if they're not fresh there's some bacteria in them that can cause miscarriage. I'd never heard that before - and my doctor didn't mention it - in fact, my doctor was primarily concerned with what types of fish I eat - due to the mercury, etc. So, I let my 6months preggo cousin microwave her turkey (which was purchased less than 24 hours before) while I happily just ate my ham sandwich. Seemed a little too ridiculous - but then she's 10 years older than me so maybe she's just trying to be super careful.
tray622
07-11-2005, 09:26 AM
food The reason they say cold cuts are risky, is the risk of listeria. It is a small risk but can extremely dangerous to a fetus. Microwaving is supposed to help kill the listeria, although many people feel the risk isnt worth worrying about. I havent heard much about the bacon... I am a believer of things in moderation though. What is hard for me is the tuna thing. I never liked tuna until this year during Lent when I got HOOKED! Now it is all I want and that has to be in moderation too :)

Hi Girls! Also sorry to hear about the scares lately. I have my second appt this afternoon and hope that it goes well. My DH told pretty much most of the family and our friends this weekend at our housewarming party. Was a little upset about that but what can I do now. He didn't even tell me. When people were congratulating me I figured it was about the house. It wasn't until the end of the night that I found out he was telling people. It was funny though becuase whenever people were talking about baby stuff I was cool about it and it confused people. They didn't know if DH was joking or if they misheard him. Oh well, we successfully hosted a little over 70 people at our home and now happy that's over with.
QOTD - I'm a Project Geotechnical Engineer. I plan to take maternity leave as long as I possibly can but with DH getting laid off next month it will all depend on how quickly he finds a job and what he'll be making. Unfortunately, DH will not be making enough for me to be a SAHM. So I will be going back to work. But I'm hoping that I can work it out here where I work 2 days at home or go home early each day kinda thing so we dont have to worry about day care. If I can be at home a couple days a week than our parents can take turns watching the baby the other 3 days. We'll see I guess if they go for it. With my job I will have to be in the office to look at samples in the lab or go to job sites. But when it's just report writing I can do that at home. I have all the programs I need at home and we also have a fax machine. So I really hope they go for it.
Food - I heard about nuking cold cuts also. I have been avoiding them and craving them so bad lately though. And nuking the meat just doesn't sound good to me. I think it was in one of the handouts that my Dr's office gave me about it too. I never heard anything about bacon though. I agree that things in moderation is fine. Although I've been craving chocolate and haven't had any since I found out I was PG. I figure I haven't had caffiene of any kind in so long so why shock my body now. I was already not drinking caffeine before I was PG so why risk it or at least in the first trimester. SIL however has been eating chocolate everyday. I figure if it's something I've been eating all along, then in moderation it will be fine. But if it's something I haven't had in a very long time than I will just avoid all together during the pregnancy.

Aligirl and Tray- -I have only heard abotu the cold cuts in the past year or so. My sister has a 5 year old and a 1 year old and she never mentioned anything about cold cuts. My dr. only told me to watch out for the fish high in mercury- salmon, tile fish (???), sord fish, etc. He said to moderate my tuna intake (not a problem I don't eat tuna) and to make sure all food is cooked well. I am also a firm believer in moderation. I also hear mocrowaved food might be bad.

Hello ladies! Hope everyone is having a lovely Monday so far. Nothing much to report for me. I think the fatigue and nausea has gotten a bit worse, but nothing debilitating or anything like that. Only a few more weeks and we’ll be in the best part of the pgnancy!
Astro – I hope you are doing better and have a very successful appointment. (((HUGS)))
roe – That is so cool that we do the same thing! I so can relate regarding the co-dependency of attorneys on their assistants/paralegals. Sometimes I wonder about them.
I have not heard anything about not eating bacon. That is news to me! I have heard about lunch meat, soft cheeses and stuff like that but I think that everything in moderation is fine. As long as you don’t down a whole package of hot dogs or something, you will be fine.
TheFuture – Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones and not get much m/s! That does seem like a long time to get in to see the dr but one good thing is that you should have a nice strong heartbeat by then.
lissy – Glad to hear everything looks great!
Jordan – That is a good idea to keep food in the car. I had to inhale a granola bar yesterday because I was getting shaky and I was so glad I had put it in the car. I also put a little puke pan in there in case I get sick in the car. You never know!
Ann – Glad you got released from your RE. That is great news. I understand about feeling like July 29 is far off. My next appt isn’t until July 25 which feels like it will take an eternity to get here.
aligirl – I love that second option you posted for your job situation. I hope you get that one. I think I would like to do something like that as well.
marios girl – Wow, 70 people is a lot to have in your house. I’m glad you survived it and it went well. I probably would have choked my hubby had he told people without my permission! You have way more restraint than me!
Hope your appt goes well this afternoon!

Here's a QOTD: Are you planning on going on a babymoon???
We're thinking about it - but have to figure out how much we want to spend and where we want to go (and when!).
marios_girl
07-11-2005, 12:49 PM
QOTD - As far as a babymoon, we aren't planning one since we just had a vacation in May to Italy. If we were to have a vacation it may just be a weekend getaway nearby though. I need to save all my vacation days for my maternity leave.
Please update: Second Appointment: July 11

I probably shouldn't be frustrated but I am. I had my first appointment on Thursday and had some pretty nasty cramping Thursday afternoon/Friday morning. I called (knowing they were going to tell me it could happen) and they told me as long as I was bleeding or in so much pain that I couldn't handle it I should be okay. Friday afternoon I was feeling pretty decent again. Saturday came and I had some really nasty pains on my left side near my ovaries/pelvic bone. They were bad enough to make me stop what I was doing and double over slightly. They only lasted a short time and didn't come back. Some friends and DH convinced me to call the doctor today and they pretty much dismissed my concerns and told me it was all normal. I promise you all that I am not a complainer. I've had a baby and been pregnant before and I think I know what is normal and what is not. I wish the OB office was as wonderful as my regular doctor is. That is the only reason I stay there really and honestly I'm thinking about switching (I hate to even say that). I guess if the pains come back and they dismiss my worries again I'll be firing the practice and finding one that doesn't just tell me not to worry.
QOTD: We aren't likely to go on a babymoon since we already have a 2 year old. I have yet to leave her overnight with anyone and all our family is at least 4 hours away. It's a really nice thought but I just can't imagine leaving DD overnight with family since she doesn't see them that often.

Kelly- that does sound annoying that the dr. dismissed your concenrs. On the other hand, my co-worker who is about 15 weeks pg had an amnio last week and she had lots of cramping over the weekend and she called her doctor and he scared the $$$T out of her. She is thinking about firing him bc he's so alarming. I suspect he is over protective bc he knows she is an atty and does not want a malpractice law suit filed. Keep your chin up. I know it's frustrating.
mario's girl - When we found out we were og, we also had a housewarming/b-day party at our new place. We promised not to tell anyone that night. My dh was worried he would drink too much and then spill the beans- but he was pretty good. He only told his sister that night. But we were sure tempted to tell everyone!!!!
babymoon - what exactly is a babymoon? At first I thought it was a post baby vaca. But now I think it's a pre-baby vaca. We are going to Atlanta on July 23 to visit our frineds who moved down there this past november. My God PArents also live there so we;ll see them also. From Atlanta, we are driving to Jacksonville, Fla to see dh's colloge friends. woo hoo!!! we're flying home from jacksonville.

Astro- I'm so glad that everything is going o.k. sounds like a very scary weekend. :(
I had an interesting weekend. My parents were in town and we went up to NH to visit with DH's mom who spends her summers up there. We had decided that we didn't want to tell them yet- because we both have had sisters that had miscarriages and the moms were not good about keeping it a sister. We managed not to say anything, but I think they all suspect now. ;) I wound up throwing up Saturday night and it is a very small Condo- so they at least started to suspect then!!! And of course i was just exhuasted. But either way, I'd rather have them suspect than know for sure. It's not like we are going to shock anyone with our news- we've been married for three years.
The good news is my doctor's appointment is this Thursday! I can't wait. I really really really hope everything is o.k. My DH is going to come with me- and i'm very happy about that.
QOTD: We went on a vacation right before I got pregnant (actually that may be where I got pregnant) and that was kind of like our last nokids hurrah. We may go up to Maine for a long weekend, but we'll see.
I just recently quit my job :) :) and am returning as a contractor to my old job so I'll be out of work by the end of the year (Merry Christmas!) - so I've been really stressing a lot about money. I'm planning to take some time off and spend it with the baby- and then go back to work in the fall of next year (if I can find a job!).
I had one more question that I wanted to ask you guys. Have anyone had really bad anxiety attacks since she's been pg? I'll cairfy and say that I have been getting anxiety and panic attacks since my early 20s and have managed pretty well on Paxil. Since I learned I was pregnant I went off of the medication. (I haven't talked to my doctor about this mainly because who gets to see a doctor??? ever???? No, I will on Thursday and I'll ask) but I was wondering if anyone else found a way to help with the anxiety? I do exercise fairly regulary (when I'm not exhausted.)
Thanks!

So my second appointment went really well. I was a little nervous. But every time the Dr asked me something or checked on something he said everything looked good. I felt so relieved and happy. I had a pap done since it had been a year since my last. He checked my uterus and right away could feel that it had gotten bigger. He did a quick u/s just to make sure everything looked okay. I was a little upset that I couldn't see more. He just quickly looked to see if he could see a heartbeat and that was it. I would have loved to have seen the baby more and see the heartbeat but he was so quick about it. I just saw a quick blob and it was over. He was busy trying to take care of another patient who was having problems at the same time. He kept apologizing but I understood. The technician who normally does the u/s was already gone for the day. So no picture. But the baby looked so much bigger than the first u/s. Then I had like a ton of blood taken. Not fun but I'm so use to it now. And that was it. Now I am feeling much better about everything and don't mind that people know about me right now. And luckily I only have to take the progesterone supplements for another 2 weeks. I'm happy about that. And hopefully soon the m/s will go away. Now I am feeling better about this pregnancy. Not out of the woods yet but feeling better about it though.
Now I really need to go shopping this weekend for some maternity clothes. I only have my 2 pairs of stretch jeans that I can wear. Nothing else fits. And I barely have any shirts to wear anymore, especially to work. I don't know why but I feel all nervous about buying them. I haven't bought anything yet for this baby because I was just so worried. I had started planning stuff last time and then soon after lost it so I am just scared to start planning again. But at this point I have very little in my closet I can wear so I have to buy some stuff. But now that the second appt went so well I feel better about buying stuff. I plan to take my first belly shot tonight since I am now at 10 weeks and go from there.
LooLoo02 - Sorry I can't help you with your question. I would just talk to your Dr about it Thursday.
Astro - So happy to hear that the twins are doing so well. :)
roe6373 - You must have great restraint. I was upset that DH told people without my permission but I'm not going to worry about it now since my second appt went well.
Mindy3094 - You're too funny. I wasn't that upset about DH telling people because I wanted to tell everyone too but just scared to. Him telling everyone without telling me did piss me off though but what am I going to do about it now. I'm not going to worry about it since my second appt went well. BUT I did tell him for our second kid we are NOT telling people like that.

hi all!
glad to see that everyone is doing well.
babymoon...i doubt dh and i will travel anywhere far. we are supposed to go to a wedding in portland, OR at the end of august but dh is really nervous about letting me fly that close to my first trimester considering what it took to get here and the high risk nature of twins and my fear of flying! so probably no trip!
cold cuts...i have heard you are supposed to microwave them or not eat them. i'm a vegetarian so that makes it easy for me!
____
feeling crappy over here. threw up yesterday (which was awful) and the constant nausea is still around. go away!
first obgyn appointment is this friday.

Hey everybody!! I was on vacation with DH's family last week...I missed the boards :( But now I'm back...yah!
I was feeling great on vacation...I am sure it was the fact that I could sleep and relax as much as needed and eat whenever I needed to because the day I came back I started to feel horrible again. I hate this ms. I am hoping it will pass soon!
I am so excited...I have my first ultrasound next monday and then my second OB appointment next wednesday. I can't wait to hear the baby's heartbeat. I am also anxious to find out if there is only one baby in there :) Just preparing myself :)
I hope all you ladies are doing well. I wanted to repond individually to alot of you but I am at work and shockingly they want me to do work for them!! Who would have thought!

Hi Ladies! Just a quick post. I have so much to do, but I had to stop by and see how everyone was doing.
I'm hanging in there. I've been getting headaches almost daily. I hate taking anything, but can't survive by 3:00 if I haven't taken tylanol.
I'm supposed to be paying bills right now :( , but it's too depressing. I have to pack for us to go away Thursday, but I'm not having much luck finding clothes that fit :o - especially clothes that won't shout "I'm pregnant!" We're going to my nephew's 1st birthday, and we're not telling anyone, including family for a few more weeks. DH will come home with Mia on Sunday and I have to drive 4 hours to a class for the week. Between being pregnant and only working part time- I don't really have 5 days worth of dress clothes that fit. This is much tougher than I thought. I could also make dinner since my Dad is coming over to join us (my mom is out of town and my dad can manage to burn spaghetti- that's not an exaggeration- it's actually happened), but I'm too tired for that too. How many more weeks of exhaustion????
Well, I'll try and do shoutouts later- probably not until tomorrow night. Hope everyone is doing well.

I sure feel bigger and my lower stomach is starting to get a bit hard? (anyone know if this is normal?), I mentioned it to a few co-workers and they told me it's too early for that...
So from now on, I am going to keep things to myself around here...
Nausia finally kicked in last night and it feels icky! It went away, after sucking on a lemon, I wish I would of brought some with me today.
Today I really could of stayed home, I felt so tired this morning. Glad that they day is almost over and I can go home and rest!

I'm feeling bigger too. I swear I looked at my stomach this morning and it definitely has increased! I usually take my pre-natal after lunch but I felt it was making me nauseous so last night I decided to take it before bed. I still felt a little nauseous yest. afternoon but not as bad as before so I think I'm gonna stick with taking it at night. ;) Also, I'm not as exhausted as I was before but I'm still feeling lazy! :D
Have a good day ladies!
marios_girl
07-13-2005, 07:22 AM
I am also feeling bigger. None of my pants except my stretch jeans fit anymore. I have limited shirts that fit too. I think I'm going to buy some maternity shirts at least this weekend. I hate this in between phase. I'd rather be big, ya know?! Too small for maternity clothes but too big for regular clothes.
Lucy - It is normal for the lower stomach to feel hard, I think. Mine is at least. Your uterus is getting bigger each day. My dr felt mine right away when he touched my lower stomach. He didn't say anything about it.
Lissy - Yes I found that taking the prenatals before going to bed helped me a lot too. Glad that it is working for you. And I am the same with the exhaustion. Not as bad as before but still very exhausted and lazy.

I feel like I have lost my waistline as well. It's really not noticeable to anyone else, but I can tell a difference. It's almost like I can't suck it in anymore. Forget putting any tight jeans on. I'm just not going to even try! Stretchy shorts and capris are my best friends right now. :)
I still haven't seen the boob fairy yet so my shirts are fitting fine.
2 more days 'til our u/s! I cannot wait!

Hi! It's been a while since I've had time to post (I'm blaming the nausea!) but I've been reading along with you guys over the last few days. And for those of you that have had recent scares - I've been hoping and praying along with you too! So glad to hear that everyone's precious little lovebugs are still safe and sound! :)
I called my doctor's office about my appt on Friday to find out what to expect at that first visit. They told me that they would be doing an u/s to find the baby's heartbeat at this appointment - yay! I'm assuming since I received no special instructions that it's one of those fun dildo-cam ones. I already warned the hubby! :D But in any case, I'm anxious to get a peek into the baby's world and make sure he's okay... Mindy, looks like we're on the same schedule and will both be checking in after u/s's on Friday. How exciting! :)

Expanding belly: Mine is definately getting bigger. If I'm wearing something with some spandex in it- you can't really tell. If I'm walking around it shorts and a tee, it's getting to be noticable. I only have this weekend to get through without the family finding out. In some ways it'll be a relief to be able to tell them, and in some ways I'm disappointed that it won't be my and DH's secret anymore.
Tina and Mindy : Good luck with your u/s. Get lots of pictures :D
marios_girl : I feel like wearing a sign- I'm not fat, I'm pregnant. It's just such an odd phase- regular clothes too small, maternity clothes too big.
Before long, we'll be complaining about how small our maternity clothes are getting
lissy : Thanks for the reminder to take my vitamin ;) . I'm having a horrible time remembering them. Glad you mentioned it.
lucy : It's definately not too early for your stomach to be getting hard. I think it depends on your prepregnancy size. If you're really thin, you're going to feel that tightness a little sooner.
Well, I'm off to pack. I'll try and check in tomorrow before we take off. I don't think I'll have access to the internet while I'm away at class next week. Very depressing to be away from here for that long. Hope everyone has a good week.

tinagirl26 I have my first appointment this morning - it's with the nurse not the doctor - but I"ll report back. Good luck tomorrow and I Hope you get an US.
Question- I just read on babycenter that you are not suppose to get your nails done in the first trimester- of course I got my toes done the other day. :-(. I'm really hoping its o.k. anyone else get their nails done???
I do think that babycenter is a bit of a panic zone so you'll sign up for their advance service.

LooLoo : I had a pedicure the other day too  . I think it's just not great to be around those chemicals on a regular basis. It's also not great not to pamper yourself occasionally. I hadn't had a pedicure for almost 2 years (before Mia was born), and it showed. I think I'm going to have a few more during pregnancy- maybe one more this summer and once right before the baby's born (then my feet will be pretty for delivery :p ).
I'm trying to entertain Mia quietly while DH sleeps (he worked all afternoon and night). We're leaving around nap time to drive to my cousin's house to spend a few days. Her little girl is 2 weeks younger than Mia. I'm hoping they'll get along well while we're there.

wow, 10 weeks. who would have ever thought?!
expanding waist...i think i've got that! or at least, even the clothes that fit feel uncomfortable on my nauseated stomach so i need to get some stretchy clothes!
mindy and tina...i have my first appt with my obgyn tomorrow so i think i'll be having an u/s too!
hope everyone is doing well...i'm feeling okay the last couple of days, but that may be due to the zofran i'm living on. oops. trying to not take it as much as i am.
nervous/excited for appt tomorrow. i actually have no idea what happens at the first prenatal appointment. guess i'll find out!
ETA: re pedicures...i'm told if you go to a reputable place, you should be fine. the length of time you're in the fumes shouldn't be too bad, it's just the fear of infection from tools (which you'd be careful of anyway!)
aligirl

Question: Has anyone found any good prenatal workout DVDs? I was thinking about getting one to spice up working out - especially since it's so hot outside and I don't always want to walk/run the dog or myself!

My u/s is tomorrow morning at 10 am so hopefully I'll have a nice picture of the blob to show you all tomorrow afternoon.
tinagirl and angelgirl That is so awesome that we will all be getting u/s tomorrow. Hope everything goes well! My u/s is at 10am and I was given instructions to us the bathroom at 8:30am then drink at least 28 oz of water before 9am. Then, of course, don't use the bathroom. Does this indicate what type of u/s I'll be having? Do you think it will be external?
angelgirl Just be ready for your head to spin after the appointment! Way too much information! If you have questions, write them down now because you will definitely forget them will all of the information they give you. I was really overwhelmed.
aligirl I don't have any suggestions for videos. So far, I have been too tired to even get on my treadmill and walk. I am hoping that once the 2nd tri hits, I can do some walking and possibly some yoga or pilates. I also have an exercise ball I want to use too.
jay&erinn I love the shirt suggestion. Have fun at your cousin's house!
LooLoo I hope your appt goes/went well. I agree about Baby Center. I think they are a little over paranoid over there. They send me these emails about what you shouldn't do, but then I go to their website and you have to sign up and pay to read about it. Forget that!

I saw my baby!
So I had my first appointment today. It was with the nurse not the doctor, but it was still great. My DH came with me as well which was nice. He got to see my cervix. :p So basically i filled out a TON of forms- there was a whole one anxiety which had been my fear earier so they gave me a number of someone to call to talk about it throughout the pregnancy which is good.
I peed in a cup and then had a pelvic exam she said I felt about 9 weeks pregnant - and then we had the ultrasound!! That was definitly the best part. We could see the baby's heart. I started to cry. IT is so amazing.
My next appointment isn't until the 9th - and then I will have a "first look" done for screening of downs and I think another ultrasound. :) After that is when I guess we'll tell people although I'm so anxious. I just want to tell everyone!
Also- the nurse said no worries about the pedicure. and she told me not to read too much. Interesting enough in the packet of information I received from my hospital they specifically say the do not recommend what to expect when you are expecting. weird.
Good luck to everyone whose appointments are tomorrow. I can't wait to hear about them!

angelgirl8 Glad to hear you're feeling better. I'd still like to trade you some of my boobs for some of your ms. :) (I have plenty to spare)
Mindy3094, tinagirl and angelgirl Hope you have fun at your us appointments. It's so cool to see the little blob(s)
expanding waist I definitely have that. I actually bought a size bigger in pants a couple weeks ago and the kids are enjoying the extra room.
hungry? Has anyone else turned into a Hobbit? I swear I like 2nd breakfasts, 11sies, supper, mid-afternoon snack, etc. Luckily the twin book I have says I should eat every two hours. I'm trying to keep it somewhat healthful (for me, that means less sugar). I splurge on a chocolate milk in the afternoon.
Hot anyone? My DH keeps laughing because I'm never hotter than him.... except lately. I'm always roasting. DH jokes that I've turned into a hobbit heater. ;) (I actually find it funny)
Update on us. Since I was bleeding on Friday at the RE's (IVF doctor), I went back to the REs on Monday and was again handed off to my OB. I called my OB on Monday, and she said she wanted to see me on Wednesday (yesterday). :D I went in yesterday info and got to see the kids again. This is the first time they've been measured. She said they measured right on track for 8 week 3 day old babies. :D :D She referred me to a speciality place for an indepth us in 3 weeks. She says it's pretty detailed non-invasive testing that can be done on an 11 week old pregnancy. I liked the non-invasive part. Then I see her the following week. It's going to be very odd not to go to the Drs office for the next 3 weeks. I better get going, it's almost time for 2nd breakfast. ;)

Congrats LooLoo!! Isn't it amazing to see and hear the heartbeat?? We cried as well!!
Astro - so glad to hear all is well. I've been such a worrier I KNOW I could not handle any bleeding. Ahhhh 2nd breakfast. I had buttermilk pancakes the other day and just wanted to keep eating and eating!!!
Mindy3094 - Good luck tomorrow. I was supposed to have my 10-week appt. tomorrow but I have to change it to next week.
aligirl - I'm looking myself for a good video. Let me know if you find one you like!!
Mindy3094 - Expanding waistline. Good think I always bought clothes a size too big for me! I haven't had to deal with this yet, but then again, my clothes were always big on me!
Back From the beach We had a great family vacation and got to tell even more relatives. I was feeling relaxed until I remembered the stress of starting a new job, ending a job, etc. But for the most part it was greta to get away and sleep in, or not. Managed to go for two long runs while at the beach, which is soooo thearaputic for me. It's going to be hard for me to give up running like my doctor told me to at 13 weeks. :(
Anyway...hope everyone else is well!!!

Hi girls. I hope everyone is else
workout video - I found a video on amazon for prenatal yoga. I cannot remember the name of it but it's made by the BBC. IT's ridiculously easy. that may be why i enjoy it :D . The video is about an hour long and goes through stretching techniques. I will get the name of it tonight adn let you know tomorrow.
pedicures - This has been the big questions at my office today. My one c-worker just said to make sure you let the person know that you are pregnant. I guess there is something in your leg/foot that can be massaged during a pedi that can casue labor.
Hunger - OMG. I wake up hungry now which is new to me. Usually I eat breakfast at work at about 10am. Now at 10am, I am having my mid morning snack.
Mindy - I don't know for sure, but it sounds like you might be getting a "normal" u/s tomorrow. I had an external u/s and I had to drink 32 oz. of water before hand. But I am not sure if you have to drink water for the dildo cam. In my mind, I would think not- but who knows. Let us know and good luck!!!
tinagirl and angel- good luck at your appts tomorrow as well.
belly shots - when are you guys going to start taking pictures of belly shots? I think I will wait until after our vaca on July 30 (I will be 12 weeks) and psychologically ready to start wearing maternity clothes.
BTW- I went to ebay and made a bid for maternity clothes. If I win, I will let you know how they are.

How about I'm not drunk - I'm pregnant?? ;) Yesterday I was walking and had to walk to the side of the road to get sick. It was awful and I think everyone around me thought I was very drunk at 6:30 - at night! UGH!
Happy Friday to everyone! Hope you all have great weekends!

Happy Friday Everyone...
Went to the doctor yesterday and everything was good. No sugar in my urine and they poked me to make sure, so YAY!
Next Appointment will be 8/16!
Hunger Attacks-I get these nasty hunger attacks all the time!!
Mario's girl-i love your new avitar!
Can't wait to see more u/s pics! Keep them coming!

meatpie glad you had a relaxing trip! I envy that you can run. I have had a hard time getting through my normal work out!! And I also envy that you can eat! I still can hardly eat anything!!!
It's always greener, huh? I sometimes wish I had some aversions to food. I tend to overeat when I am stressed and did that BIG time on vacation. Totally expecting a huge (not the normal few pounds either) weight gain at next Wednesday's appointment. Then again, I've always had a bad body image...
But yes, I feel so blessed to be able to continue to run and run fairly well.
roe6373 Let me know about the video. I need anoither form of exercise aside from running. And...belly shots won't start for another month for me I'm thinking.
Weekend Going to buy a new family car! We've only had one car for the last four years and we need a new car for me so I'm thinking of the Toyota Highlander so we can grow into it. We plan to have (god-willing) three kids in the next 5-6 years so we need a larger car. Anyone else have to buy a new car??

Meatpie- I am sorry, I forgot to look at the name of the video. I will check it this weekend and let you know. We bought a new car two weeks ago. My dh used to drive this stupid two door suv truck. The truck made no sence bc it was only 2 door adn it guzzled too much gas. Anyway, went went with the Toyota Matrix. It's a funny shape, but dh likes weird cars and it's a four door four cylinder. Are you looking into the highlander hybrid?

hi all!
had my first real prenatal appointment today and everything looks great. both babies look good and are growing nicely!
she gave me a starter pack of Premesis Rx prenatal, which has extra B6 (supposed to help with nausea). Has anyone taken this?
marios_girl
07-15-2005, 10:30 AM
angelgirl8 - So happy to hear that the twins are doing well. I did try that Premesis vitamin but in my experience it made me much worse so I went back to the Target brand prenatals and have been feeling better since. I hope they work for you though.
meatpie - Good luck shopping for a new car this weekend. We so despearately need a new car too but just can't afford it right now since DH will be getting laid off next month. If he finds a job right away we might put the money from his severance package towards a new car. Right now we're liking the Nissan Murano. But we haven't driven it yet so who knows we might hate it. We'll see. If not we're looking at buying a new car next year then.
Thanks LucyandRyan! - Glad you like my new avatar. So happy to hear you appt went well and they found no sugar this time. Have a great weekend too.
LooLoo02 - Love your new t-shirt idea. Don't think I've seen that one around. Sorry to hear you're not feeling to good. I feel for you.
Next appt is Aug. 8th!

I leave the country for a few weeks and what changes go down. Not a fan of the new boards at all and finally wandered and found y'all over here.
name:edsbabyrhi
Me: Rhiannon, 24
DH: Ed, 24
Married: July 10 2004
TTC: Not yet!
BFP: 5/31/05
EDD: 2/4/06
I was in London for the last 2 1/2 weeks, it was crazy and just am now getting back to normal life. I have been fighting constant nausea, that is really my only symptom.
Next Dr. Appt is Monday July 18, we had the initial one before we left.
I am a teacher and I switched schools this year so Monday afternoon I am going in to tell my new principal, really not looking forward to that! Any advice? I've only really talked to her when I was interviewing for the new school. To be fair I did tell her that we would be TTC next year but it obviously happened a lot sooner than we thought.

Welcome edsbabyrhi! Wow, you were in London the past couple weeks. Then you must have been around for the attacks. That must have been scary and crazy over there. Still hoped you had a good time over there.
As for telling your boss, I would just be upfront and honest with her. It's not like you planned to get PG this soon right? Really what can she do?

This is from my journal:
The First Ultrasound
I got up this morning and got ready to go then forced down 28 oz of water between 8:30-9:00. Oh my, my bladder was SO full. Ouch, the bumps on the road were killing me!
We got there and they took me right in. Whew! I had to lose the pants & panties and don a hospital gown open in the front. Then we go in and she gets me situated. She then went out and got hubby and brought him back.
She said they would first do an external u/s and if she needed more accurate measurements, she would then have me use the restroom and do an internal. She put this warm gel on my lower stomach and started moving the little wand around. Immediately, we see my ginormous bladder which looked like a big black void in space. Then she moves it around a little more and boom, we see another much smaller black hole with a fuzz ball in the middle. There was the babe!
She took some pictures and measurements and turned the sound on and we could hear the little heart beating away. She said it was around 175 bpm. She then said she’d like to do an internal as well just to get some better pictures and measurements. The pictures with the external were very blurry.
I finally get to use the bathroom (oh heaven!) and I come back into the room. She has me sit on the edge of this hard pillow. Then she whips out the dildo cam. Oh my gosh, this thing is LONG! She explains that most of it is the handle for her to hold onto and that it only goes in the vagina but sends its sound up from there and that is how you get the image. Alrighty then! She has me insert it and instantly the picture was 100X better. Although it still looked like a blob, we could see the basic body and even the umbilical cord. She turned the sound on again and the heart was pounding away at 163 bpm. Then she turned the Doppler on and we could see the blood flow through the umbilical cord to the baby. So cool! She took some more measurements and then said, “Can you see it moving around?” And oh my gosh, we could. It wasn’t moving much but you could see it a little bit. She then told me that I could “relax” while she worked on some paperwork. She came back in a few minutes later and said she would date me at 8 weeks like I thought. She gave me a picture and then told me she’d see me around 20 weeks.
Hubby was very quiet the whole time but we just kept looking at each other like, “Holy cow!” When the tech left the room, I did cry a little bit mostly out of relief that there is an actual baby in there. I just had this fear that we’d get there and either nothing would be in there or something bad would happen. When we get out into the parking lot, hubby says, “So are we telling people now?” Ha ha, he is dying to tell everyone he knows, so I am thinking we might start telling the general public even though we are still at 8 weeks. What do you guys think?
So, it went very very well. Here is a picture of our blob. The little guy/girl is head down and the tech suspected that its face was to the left and its back to the right although she couldn’t tell for sure.

Hunger I am definitely eating more, maybe 300 calories per day. I just make sure I eat when I am hungry and don't overdue it. I used to eat 5-6 times per day (2 snacks and 3 small meals) so that helps a lot.
Pedicures I will definitely be getting one after my one toenail decides to grow out to the end of my toe. Somehow, it broke off on one side way down near the cuticle and has taken months to grow almost all the way back out. And a pedicure will be a definite near the end. Need to have pretty little toes that will be in everyone's faces!
Belly Shots I have taken them at 4 weeks and 7 weeks so far. I have them in my journal although there is nothing exciting happening yet! I'll probably take another one at 10 weeks and go every 2 weeks from there on out.
Weekend We are in a local greenhouse's Parade of Ponds so we'll be hanging out while people parade to our house to see hubby's pond. This is our first year doing this so hopefully it goes well! We also plan to tell another friend this weekend and I can't wait!

Hi everyone!
My first appointment went well this morning too. Like they did at Mindy's appointment, they also did both an external and internal u/s for us (but still no request to drink all that water - weird, huh?). My picture isn't nearly as clear as yours, Mindy, but it was still an amazing sight to see with that little heart beating away like that!! I was so relieved and so amazed that I couldn't help but cry! And I was so glad my DH was there to share in that. Here's my fuzzy picture (made even fuzzier because we didn't have time to scan it this AM so we just took a digital pic):
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a74/tinagirl26/babydavis001.jpg
They pushed back my due date to Feb 24th but I'm a little confused because then they told me I was 8w 3d when I was thinking I was only 8w 2d. Oh well, it's all close enough I guess...
My next appt is Aug 10th.

Beautiful pic! As long as you see a black void and a fuzzball, that is all that matters. :)
Isn't is awesome to see that little flicker beating away? So cool. When she brought up the sound, a graph came across the screen that tracked the beats (kind of EKG-ish) then she could time them from that. Technology these days is something else!
Bummer you didn't have to drink all that water! Drinking it wasn't bad but then not using the bathroom was torturous! The funny thing is that after I went to the bathroom she said she could tell my bladder was still full in the internal u/s. I didn't have to go though!

Mindy - Yes, fuzzy or not, we were still grateful to see what we saw. Now DH calls the baby "Our Little Fuzzball" because that's all we could see. :D We didn't get to hear the heartbeat, just saw it on the screen but she said it looked good so that's good enough for me for now. How exciting that must have been for you to hear it like that! :) And, yeah, the bladder thing was weird for me too because I had just gone to the bathroom to give them a urine sample before the ultrasound and by the time she did the internal one she was like "oh, I see your bladder is full again..." :D Kinda weird that they can see that!
I'm glad your ultrasound went so well too! :)

And angelgirl, I'm glad to hear your appointment today went well too! :)
Hi ladies! I feel like it has been forever since I have been in here. Beautiful photos everyone!
We had our first ultrasound on Thursday, and the babys age measured exactly to the date I had calculated! It is really amazing that all embryos grow at the same rate this early on. We were able to see the heartbeat... 167BPM, and it's little hands and a foot (?). We also saw it hiccup! I have to scan one of the ultrasounds to post. We did not have the vaginal ultrasound, and amazingly the screen was very clear.
I guess there really is a baby in there! SO WEIRD!!! :D
Hello everyone. So neat to see all the u/s pics! I got back from vacation on Thursday and had a dr. appointment on Friday. I had a surprise u/s myself! It was so amazing to see the little baby inside there. It kind of looked like a gummy bear :) I could see arms and legs and that little heartbeat go.
My clothes are getting tighter around the middle, but the dr. said I'm still losing weight 5lbs so far so I have to go back in 2 weeks. I sure things will get better, I'm just still pretty sick so I have no appetite and eat small meals when I can.

fabulous to see all the ultrasound pictures!!
we didn't get pictures at my latest appointment, but i got to have my very first external u/s and didn't have to have an internal at all. doesn't really matter, because i'm pretty used to them at this point!
still feeling pretty ill, but loving the zofran.
my "official" due date is february 8th and my next 2 appointments are:
7/28 for the nuchal translucency u/s and
8/8 for my next obgyn appt.

Well had my first u/s this morning. I was shocked they actually took me in early and I was in and out of there in about 20 minutes. She said I am actually measuring small and she kept coming up with a due date of March 4th, so she said I could basically pick a date between Feb 26th and March 4th because it's so close. I figure I'll wait till the next appointment and see waht the doctor says. We also got the see the hb which was 160 bpb

Well- it's official pretty much. People at work are starting to talk about my growing belly. One of the girls finally siad to me "you gotta be??" what the hell was i supposed to say? I said yup but I am not telling anyone yet. She pretty much siad that my body is speaking for itself. Apparently the gossip mill is milling away. That's fine- at least they are talking about something good. Maybe i will make it official and just announce it today.

Wow - all I can say is wow. That seems a little crappy. Like first of all- it's none of her damn business - second of all, she can't wait a few more weeks until you're ready??? It's one thing to be gossiping, but to come right out - I think that is so rude. I hope you're doing all right - congratulations on telling people.
I'm dying to tell people, but I feel like i just want to wait until my next doctor's appointment which is August 9.

The US pics are great! My Dr doesnt do one unless determined necessary until 20 weeks. Had our 2nd appointment today and heard the heartbeat so that was exciting. This afternoon is the big talk with the principal so I will let you know how it goes.
We are Penn State alumni and went back for the unofficial alumni weekend Sat and Sun. We ended up camping out Sat night so I am really exhausted. Tried to have a productive morning but a nap is definitely in the cards for this afternoon!

I love looking at all of the ultrasound pics! I'm so jealous because I haven't had one(I think the doctor said he'll do it at 16 weeks) and I haven't heard the heartbeat either! I'm hoping I'll get to at my next appt. August 4th. I feel deprived! :D

Thanks Looloo. We have a small office and maybe she felt close enough to say something. Of maybe she's been dying to know and finally had to come out and ask. there is nothing i can do about it. The funny thing is, she outed another girl in my office a few weeks ago also. This woman has a 6th sence. She means well.
qotd - Since I've been outed, I want to tell my co-workers myself without everyone spreading the news. But I am not sure how to tell everyone. Any ideas? For some reason, even with friends, I have been having a hard time telling people i am pregnant. maybe i am nervous or scared. At this point, I am still only in the first tri.

QOTD: Well I was to excited to hold it in. The day I found out, I brought a pee test to work. Of course I did call my DH to confirm that I was indeed preggo first.
Then, I told my co-worker, as I was crying in excitement my boss walked in, and he congratulated me...then the plant manager paged me because he said my boss asked him to...and so on and so forth...
I have so far taken one day off...they have been very supportive and help me in any way possible.
I don't know how some of you keep it in for so long... I think I would just die! ;)
Not much to report here, other than, I am definately loosing my pants and shorts. I bought my first maternity outfit this weekend, but I don't intend to use it yet... That was fun.

Roe - I totally know what you mean - I've been feeling weird about telling people too. I don't know why I'm nervous/scared/whatever but I can definitely relate. I debated for a long time how to tell my coworkers too. We're such a small company that I knew I wanted to tell early on - I'll be missing time for appts and m/s so it's just easier to get the sympathy from the get-go. I wanted to tell them all at once but I felt weird about making a big announcement. So I ended up doing it via email after last week's appt - I sent out an email with a copy of the u/s pic and announced it that way.
As a side note, I'm finding it weird that one of my coworkers hasn't said a single word to me about it. I know she checks her email regularly. And she's the one who has been making comments to me about how her son (1 year old) needs a playmate... Weird. I'm trying not to be hurt over it but I am.

Wow! I'm kind of jealous that you have been so open. I think I'm just worried- my sister had a mc and my mom had told a lot of people about her baby which really upset my sister- so I just feel worried. but really, I almost think not telling is doing me more harm than good. I've been so anxious it might be good to have some positive energy around me. I did tell my sister - but she's been worrying me even more. I've told a couple of random people, but no one important - which is odd.

QOTD: I told my bosses a week after I found out b/c of our whitewater rafting trip that I wasn't going to be going on. I had planned to wait to tell the other employees until I was further along or at least till after the first u/s... but at our last company meeting (mind you there are only 10 of us) my boss at the end goes "Jordan's got some good news..." so I didn't really have an option at that point. The people I'm having the issue with telling is my softball team, although I think they know something is up b/c I haven't been hanging out to drink after the games.

QOTD: Well, one of my co-workers kinda asked and I spilled right away. She knew all about my story and us TTC. So did my receptionist about a couple weeks later. She's 3 months farther along and I said something like not liking the taste of water and right away asked if I were PG. I told my boss when I was only about 6 weeks because I had to leave for another appt. He kinda already figured it out since I had like 3 or 4 Dr's appts in a row since they were testing my progesterone levels. But since I didn't know how many more tests they were going to run I had to give him a heads up so he didn't schedule me out in the field on those days.
The rest of my co-workers found out from one of them. I think there is only one guy who is still clueless about it. Please note that I work in my office with only 6 other people so it's very hard to hide anything. Now the corporate and satellite offices I work with don't know yet though.
But I totally understand that worried feeling about telling people right away. That's what we did the last time we were PG and a week later I had a m/c. So it was so hard to tell people what happened. I was devastated. But I did learn that I wanted to tell my closest friends and immediate family right away again because their support helped us through the m/c. I am still hesitant to tell peolple now. It's much easier to tell strangers than people you know. I don't know why that is. Maybe because you know you won't be seeing them again so if anything were to go wrong you don't have to tell them. I don't know but I think at least telling those closest to you does help. It's good to have their support either way.

Lucy - I bought maternity clothes this weekend also. It was fun, but I also felt like a bit of a fatty. I guess it's bc i felt it's too soon for maternity clothes. on the otherhand, my regular clothes are just too tight. At first, I bought a few size 10s to hold me over, but they are even getting too tight. uggh.
Tina - That is weird about the co-worker. Do you think she expected you to tell her in person rather than by e-mail I like the way you told everyone bc you sent a copy of the u/s picture. That is bizarro.
My friend told me I should tell the person with the biggest mouth and let the word spread that way. Truthfully, I think everyone pretty much knows. But they don't want to askk bc they think it might be rude. Whereas as co-worker Debbie did not give a FLying FFF and just blurted it out. I wanted to tell people at lunch today, but the only people having lunch were my friends that already know. Maybe tomorrow, I will do it.
Have a good night!!

I work in a tiny office. There are 2 of us: the attorney and me. His office is attached to his house so his wife comes over from time to time, but that is about it. I have no privacy, yet I have not told my boss yet. I can't seem to muster up the courage to do it. I have a weirdly loyal work ethic and I feel like I am letting him down by telling him. I know it's morbidly strange but I am a big chicken!
With that said, I think he suspects something is up. The other day he was quizzing me on car seats because he was curious about something. Then I told him I would be late last Friday but I didn't tell him why. When I got in, he of course asked me where I was and I stuttered out, "The doctor's office." Then he says, "Well, did everything come out okay?" I said, "HUH?" (like holy cow, there is no way he can know!) He said, "Well, you were at the dr's office, did everything work out okay?" I just said, "Yeah!" and went to get some water. Now, that would have been the perfect time to tell him, but again, I am a chicken.
How did you guys tell? Did you just blurt it out? What exactly did you say? I am having severe anxiety over exactly what to say and how to bring it up.

QOTD Well I told my new boss yesterday and it went really well actually. She was more worried about the news she had to tell me (for fellow teachers the numbers have changed so they asked me to teach a 2/3 combo instead of straight second grade). I feel really lucky though because the school is VERY family friendly. They are actually a private school and run daycare from 8 weeks to 8th grade.
Has anyone decided definitely on finding out or not finding out the sex? I was set on no at first but now my DH has me wavering.

I have still not told my job yet. I am waiting for the right moment. I don't really have a boss. I wish I did bc then I could tell him/her. I work at a law firm as a paralegal. I used to have a paralegal supervisor, but she left the firm and was never really replaced. Other than that, the attorneys are my bosses. But that means I have at least a dozen bosses.
Sex of the baby - We have not decided whether we'll find out or not. Part of me wants to bc my sister has two daughters and I know if we have a girl, she'll have tons of clothes. If we have a boy, we'll be screwed. DH had a dream last night that the baby was a boy. I don't really have a preference other than if we have a boy, we have to give him a bris- which I am so not happy about. If we have a girl, we won't have to worry about that :D .

We had every intention of waiting until we were 12-14 weeks, but most people know. Our good friends, close family, etc. I dunno. I just have the feeling this is going to be OK and all will be fine. Plus, I have a drink with dinner usually (I'm a wine lover...), and we eat out a ton with friends. After two dinners of no drinking everyone was itching to ask I am sure.
Work New job I told before they made me a job offer when I was about 6 weeks because I just wanted to be honest with them about it. When they offered me the job and after I accepted - I went to current boss, said I had some news. She smiled because she figured I was pregnant since I had a few doctor's appointments, and then I told her I was pg, but that I was also leaving. Shocked much?
Sex of Benny Jr - We will not find out. I've always imagined it would be part of the process, the "It's a girl/boy!" hearing it from the doctor for the first time - so I talked my anal, list-making husband into not finding out. He's a planner, so he's not all that thrilled.
Dr. Apt. tomorrow I have my 10-week apt. tomorrow am. Not sure what they are going to do other than draw blood to test for the Eastern European Jewish gene which can cause problems (hus is Jewish, I'm not, and both parents have to carry the gene). Will I get another u/s? Weird because some have not been seen yet and this is my second appointment already!!
Roe We already ruled out the bris if we have a boy. I just don't think I could handle that in my living room. He'll be circumcized, hopefully by a Jewish doctor, even though that means nothing. One of our many compromises with our different backgrounds (the kid won't be baptized either.) I'm sure it's too personal, but I wonder if we are not "thrilled" about a bris for the same reasons...anyway!!

Sex of the Lovebug: We're definitely finding out what we're having. Jay just has to know! I don't care either way but he's strongly for finding out.
Work: I told my bosses and close friends at work right away. I'm pretty good buddies with the bosses though. I just emailed because I was stilll in Philly and didn't want those Philly guys to know. I've already talked about bosses' reactions - but they were both very positive!! :)

Sex of the little bean We're on the fence. I want to know- but DH doesn't. i just feel like it makes it so much easier to know. But my next door neighbor is pregnant and hasn't found out and she says it is so much more exciting. I'm just not sure.
Work My bosses know because I quit and being PG was a main reason for me to quit. I also told my bosses at my new job (which was my old job- long story. ;-).
I've talked a lot about how random people know- I'm waiting I guess until my 12th week which is only two weeks away at this point......

work- I told my office the morning that I took the test, along with the rest of the world! There was no way that after TTC for almost a year that I could hold it in. Everyone in the office was very happy for me and are all very supportive with appointments and the m/s. I'm not sure if I would have been able to keep it a secret.
sex of the baby- DH and I both really want to find out the sex. At first I was back and forth about it but now I am already starting to get anxious. Also, there is no way DH could hold it...it's a must for him.
So, I had my first ultrasound yesterday. It was amazing. I could see the baby's head, arms and legs. He/she was jumping up and down, I think we might have a hyper baby on our hands. Its crazy that at this stage the baby was so clear. I also got to hear the heartbeat, its so amazing, for me it made it that much more real. There actually is a little person in there :)

Man, I wish I could send an email to tell my boss. LOL, but since I check all email, I would get my own message. Oh well, I am going to have to buck up and just do it. He is going out of town tomorrow night for 10 days so I'll have a little while to work up the nerve. Seriously though, WHAT is my problem?!?
Sex of the Baby We are most definitely finding out. We both want to know pretty badly! I just hope the little one cooperates when the times comes.
cgriffin That sounds like an amazing u/s! Glad it went so well. It does become more real once you see it on the screen, don't you think?
I just had my second Dr's appointment today. This is the first time I met the doctor- last time it was a nurse practicioner, and since we just changed insurance it was totally a new office to me as well. I am happy to report that my OB is terrific, and I am so comfortable with her!
Work- Egh. I am with you Mindy3094. I am such a baby! I am dreading telling my boss.. even though we are not telling anyone for at least two more weeks. Like roe6373, I support 10 different people who are all my bosses in some sense. To make the matter more complicated, my boss has mentioned a possible promotion for me which has to be blessed by his boss (who I also interact with daily). For some reason I believe that this blessing might be revoked if she found out that I was pregnant. I am holding off as long as I can... luckily I am not showing yet!
QOTD: Yes, we are finding out the sex of the baby. At first we didn't want to- but the lure is too great! We have decided that we will have a unisex nursery though because pink ruffles and blue transportation related things don't really thrill me.

sex of the baby: We are really undecided. I know we would love to know since it's the first grandchild on both sides of the family, but we would also like to be surprise. It's tough one, but both sides will respect our decision, which I think it's awesome.
Question: Sleeping positions, when is it a good time to sleep on your left, instead of your back? Sometimes I sleep on my stomach, and once I realize it, I quickly turn to my left (I freak out, thinking I might smash the baby!) Am I the only paronoid one?
lissy
07-20-2005, 05:55 AM
Lucy, I'm a stomach sleeper too and was worried about squishing the baby but I've heard from people that there's nothing really to worry about. Supposedly, you can sleep on your stomach until you physically feel comfortable. I still want to check with my doctor about that! :)
Sex of the baby: We definitely want to find out. I know it would be so nice to have that surprise at the end but it makes it so much easier to plan when you know!!
Baby showers: I know it might be a bit early to think about it but I've been thinking time wise, when I should do it? Ideally, I would have liked it to be a couple of months before the baby is born but that would be December and I dont think that would be good timing with the holidays and all. November seems too early and January seems too close. What do you guys think?

Lissy - One of my friends had her daughter in Feb 04 and had her baby shower the beginning of January!! Another had her son this past Feb and had 2 showers: 1 in October (for work) and 1 in November (family). I'll probably have mine in the beginning of December - maybe the 1st weekend. HTH!

I am sorry I havent been around. I have had limited computer time dealing with some extended family issues. This thread moves quick, so forgive until I get caight up :)
sex of the baby I am feeling boy. We will be finding out. We actually took the Accugen Baby Gender bloodtest and should know the results by Friday. Monday should be the latest.
baby showers I had mine a month before and wish it would have been sooner. I was on bedrest and not feeling well at all. The shower was hard for me to get through. I dont think the beginning of December would conflict with the holidays. I wont be having one this time around. They will be 17 months apart and I have everything I really need.
sleeping I think the rule is that your back is fine until 20 weeks when the weight of the uterus could cause the cutting off of blood supply. That is when you should stop doing exercises that require you on your back. My ob told me that your body would turn you off your back in your sleep if since it would be making it hard for you to breathe if there was an issue. It can be all that bad since the docs still makes you lie on your back for u/s, etc and I would get so dizzy. The stomach I heard was fine until it is uncomfortable for you too. I know late in pg the left sside if optimal for blood flow to the baby :)

Hello everyone,
LRL I definitely feel your pain on telling the boss. Ugh, I hate that I am being such a wuss. But they are leaving this afternoon for vacation so when he comes back, I'm going to have to spill the beans.
Sleeping Positions
I am still sleeping on my stomach. I do not sleep on my back much. I tend to move around a lot though so I am not too worried about it just yet. Like it has been posted, I will stop sleeping on my stomach when it gets uncomfortable.
Baby Showers
Oh my, my sister is driving me bonkers already trying to plan it. I'm due 2/22 and she wants to have it between Christmas and New Year's. I am against this because that is such a busy time for everyone, including myself. I was thinking of having it the first or second week in January, but am wondering if that is too late. I would be 6 weeks from the due date at that point. Hmmm....maybe the beginning of December would be better.

sex of the baby: I think we will find out. DH doesn't really want to but I really do so we shall see.
baby showers: Since a lot of my family and friends are in Florida and I'm in CT my sister was talking about doing something when I'm home for Thanksgiving. I don't really want to fly down twice at that point in the PG and I know I won't be able to fly too much after that.

baby showers- I know my MIL's friends are giving me one, but I have no idea when...My parents and friends are in CA (I am in IN) and I don't think I will be flying out until the baby is here. They are actually coming this saturday for 2 weeks, but I think a baby shower now, will be way to soon. I guess we will see, maybe my parents can come back for Thanksgiving or x-mas.

Sleeping position -- I still sleep on my back. My bb get in the way when I sleep on my stomaach.
Shower - I kind of flet the same way- December is too hectic with all the holidays going on. I just assumed the shower would be in January. I might be soon- but we won't be using any of the stuff until the baby arrives anyway. Since I won't be planning the shower, it will be up to my mom and sister when they decide to have it. I don't plan to register until November so it cannot be before that.

Sorry I've been so bad about posting. I've been reading along mostly but I just haven't had much to talk about.
We sort of came out of the closet last night. DH called his parents to tell them that they're going to be grandparents again. MIL was already in bed, her allergies really bother her this time of year and I'm guessing she took something for them that knocked her out. FIL could not have had a better reaction. He screamed on the phone and kept saying how wonderful and great and happy he was. He sounded like he was in seventh heaven for the remainder of our conversation. DD even told her that she was going to be a "bit siser", we of course had to translate but he got a huge kick out of that. We're on such a high from telling him we almost feel like shouting it from the rooftops but we aren't yet.
DH was set to go for training in Northern VA (where we are from) next week for two weeks and DD and I were going to tag along. He just found out yesterday that 5 people dropped the class so there aren't enough people for the training facility to continue on with the training course. At first he thought we'd be able to go to Orlando is September instead and we'd only be about 2 hours from his parents then but that didn't work out either. The only class he could go to is one in the Poconos starting August 1. I threw a fit yesterday (nothing like these raging hormones to make everything seem so much worse then it is) because he'd miss the doctor's appointment on August 9. This would be the first time we'd hear the baby's heartbeat and since we didn't get an early u/s that would be our confirmation that things are going well. He couldn't say anything to calm me down yesterday about it. This morning I got up and felt much calmer. I called my doctor's office, rescehduled my appointment for a week later when he can be there and DD and I are going to the Poconos with him for 2 weeks. We've never been but I know it's beautiful and the training facility is putting us up in a resort so it should be really nice. My next doctor's appointment is now August 15 NOT August 9. I'll be 12 weeks 1 day so I know for sure we will hear a heartbeat and it's only 3 days before my 30th birthday. What a great birthday present, hearing our babies heart beating.
Oh and I'm totally showing already. It's insane and I have proof, just gotta figure out how to post pictures on here. I'm going to give it a try. This is from yesterday, I'm ONLY 8 weeks 3 days. CRAZY how big I look already this time around.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v316/kellymb1975/8w2d.jpg
I'm sure there was more I wanted to say but now I can't remember. I think this is probably the longest post I've done in here. Thanks for reading.

Wow, Kelly, you really are showing already!! I'm kinda jealous...
sleeping position - I heard the same thing - that it doesn't matter before 20 weeks what position you sleep in. Luckily, I'm generally a side-sleeper anyway so I should be okay. I'm just practicing trying to stay on my left side right now.
sex of the baby - We will definitely want to find out early if at all possible. I'm too much of a planner to wait (besides being really impatient!). I can't wait for the day I get to say "he" or "she" for real, knowing which one it is. And we just kinda look at it as moving the surprise up a little bit early - it will still be a surprise.
shower - One of my best friends was due at the end of Feb this year and we had her shower the first week of January. It was definitely tricky trying to find a good time for it. We sent invites out at the beginning of Dec and then sent reminder emails out between Christmas and New Years - just so people wouldn't forget after the busy holiday. It worked out okay and she even had another shower a couple weeks after that one I think.
question - I feel like such a dufus because I should have known better, but I'm freaking out a little bit after having a hamburger at lunch today. It was still a little bit pink inside and I'm wondering if I should have sent it back and asked for it to be well-done? I'm scaring myself reading all sorts of e. coli stories online. What do you girls think? How risky was that?

Sleeping position - This is already becomming a big deal to me. I ordered a maternity pillow and it came the other day and it's a HUGE help. I didn't have much trouble last time with sleep until I was almost full-term, this time I'm already having issues. I'm sleeping mostly on my left-side since I got used to it while pregnant with DD and it just stuck.
Baby Shower - My shower last time was in February and I was due toward the end of April. They decided to throw the shower then because it was out of town since we had just relocated and my doctor didn't want me traveling more then 2 hours from the hospital after 34 weeks. If I have a shower this time it will likely just be a few people from my neighborhood because this is my 2nd baby and we don't need a lot.
Baby's Sex - YES YES YES! We tried to find out at our normal half-way u/s last time and DD would not cooperate at all. The doctor said he thought it was a girl but he would not put money on it so we were left wondering. At 32 weeks I had a pretty good scare and was sent to the hospital for monitoring where they did another u/s and at that point the tech there was 99.9% sure we were having a girl. I don't want to find out that late this time, it drove me nuts last time.
tinagirl26 - I don't think that eating a burger that is pink one time is probably a big deal. I would be more vigilant next time and thereafter but really as long as it was only a little pink I'm guessing it's not a huge deal. It's so easy to freak out and over analyze everything we do while pregnant. I was such a big freak during my last pregnancy, I was super anal and drove myself and everyone else crazy. I'm still anal but not as bad as last time. I guess I just don't have as much time to be anal this go either since my 2 y/o keeps me incredibly busy.

Kelly-what a nice belly! Your not expecting twins are you? ;)
I haven't had an u/s or heard any heartbeats yet so anything is possible, but I seriously doubt it. Although I do know that one twinmama from WC didn't find out she was having twins until her middle of the pregnancy u/s. I'm not sure I could handle 2 babies and a toddler. I think I just popped earlier because this is my second pregnancy (at least that's what I'm determined to try and make myself believe).

Another QOTD: Speaking of baby showers, how many are you planning on having?
My mom suggested 2 so that it's more intimate...less people. That way, we can have one in town and one for people who don't live nearby. I don't know if I can stomach (he he he) 2 baby showers. 2 bridal showers was enough for me - especially the one with the ILs. That's what I'm worried about - the one I don't have control over. I'm such a snot but I'm worried that I'll invite my friends from here to it and it'll totally suck. Would it be bad to have my mom plan it and have the guest list include Jay's family members too??
What are your thoughts?
Kellymb75
07-21-2005, 07:30 AM
QOTD: I only had one baby shower and everyone was invited to that. I think it would be perfectly acceptable for your mom to host the shower and inviite your DH's family to that one. Afterall, you are all family now, no real need to separate people.
I also think 2 showers are fine but if you're worried about it turning into a problem with one being your friends/family and then DH's family as the other then I'd probably try to stick to one.

I think I just popped earlier because this is my second pregnancy (at least that's what I'm determined to try and make myself believe).
Kelly - I have read in a number of places that you show a lot earlier with the second pregnancy!!!
10-week appt. - Well we heard the heartbeat withOUT the dildo cam  yesterday and it was wonderful. Heartbeat at about 160, so all looks really good here. Boobs continue to be out of control, but nothing else. I may shop tomorrow for some maternity clothes tomorrow just because today is my last day at my old job and I start the new job already on Monday. Things are tight, but not unbearable.
Showers Well...my MIL told my mom that in Jewish tradition nothing is done before the baby is born so that opens up a completely different can of worms that I don't know what to do with. Do we invite them anyway? Or is that rude? Do I not invite my MIL, but send invites to their non-Jewish relatives? I can't see myself having a party a week after the kid is born, but who knows. The only time I went to a post-baby born shower was when the mother was super superstitious and it had nothing to do with religion - so this one came as a shock to me. My sister keeps talking about January, but that would mean us driving from LA to Sacramento 5 1/2 hours in my eighth month.
Question - When is the earliest you can have a shower?

QOTD I will be having 2 baby showers. One for all my family in PA and one for all my friends down here in NoVa. That's how we worked it for my wedding and it worked quite well.
In other news, I have been fighting headaches off all week. I finally broke down today and took some tylenol. I have a feeling its a sinus infection (which I get regularly) so I want to start taking something in case I need to go get an antibiotic. Ick.

I think I will end up having 2 showers-one for work and the other for family & friends. What do you do when you have a couple of family members(my husband's side) you would rather not invite? I feel I have to just out of respect for his grandmother but I'd rather not invite them. My husband feels the same way. :(
I had a little scare this morning. I got a call from the doctor's office to say all of my tests came back good but that the doctor found a small bacterial infection when he did the pap smear so he was going to prescribe some cream for me which I'm picking up later. I don't like hearing any of this kind of stuff but I know it's probably no big deal. My next appointment is August 4th so I'm sure I'll get more info from the doc then.

I'm glad the doctor found it and is getting it cleared up ASAP. When I was 32 weeks with my DD I just started bleeding for no reason. It freaked me out. I had started to dilate and ended up going over to the hospital for observation/tests. It turned out that I had bacterial vaginosis. I had no idea and if it goes untreated it can cause pre-term labor. It's an easy fix and it's good they caught it early. It's never fun to have anything wrong but at least it's a small "fixable" thing.

I think Thanksgiving would be a fine time to have a shower, especially since you will already be down there. That could work out perfectly.
LucyandRyan
Yeah, if I had a baby shower now, people would say, “But I didn’t even know you were pg!” I would be surprised if your family doesn’t come back for at least one of the holidays especially with the little one on the way.
Kelly
Yeah, you have popped! Looks great! I have also heard that you show faster with the 2nd baby. My sister also says it’s harder to lose the weight too which is not what we want to hear!
tinagirl
I think you are okay with the hamburger. Just a little bit of pink isn’t bad. Don’t worry! I would just watch and don’t eat them all of the time. Moderation is key. I’ve had lunch meat and I don’t feel badly, but it has been a piece or two. ;)
Number of Baby Showers
I know of at least 2 showers. My sister is planning one and I think has already set the date for Jan. 8. Gotta love her. She is trying to get in touch with my SIL (hubby’s sister) to see if she wants to be involved in this one and I have a feeling that SIL and MIL are going to want to have their own. Then, our Sunday school teacher will have one with our Sunday school class (about 12 couples). So I know of the Sunday school one and the one my sister is planning for sure. I do think that 3 would be excessive but I don’t want to tick anybody off and seem unappreciative, you know? We’ll see, I guess!
aligirl
I don’t see anything wrong with having one big shower with both families there. That is what we did for my bridal shower and I had a blast. My sister had to have it in a central location because the families are about an hour apart, but I thought it worked out well. Now, if you can get the ILs to go for it……… :D
meatpie
Wow, the Jewish angle definitely puts a spin on the timing of the baby shower. Right off of the top of my head, I would probably want to have the non-Jewish one ahead of time then have the Jewish one after the baby is born. This is, of course, if this doesn’t offend your ILs which it might. This could be a very tricky situation and I think warrants a talk with MIL so that she doesn’t get offended at what you decide to do. The earliest for a baby shower? Gee, I don’t know if there is rule on that but I would tend to think that anything before 7 months might be too early. I don’t know though. That is just what popped into my head!
Hello to everyone else I missed!

Hi everyone. No time for individual shoutouts, but I've been reading along. I'm glad to hear other tummies are starting to pop. :)
Has anyone started looking into daycare? I've heard the wait lists can be quite long (about a year long), so I decided to call around to find out prices and wait lists. I want to see if we're going to do daycare for the twins, or if I'm staying home. I was shocked. daycare costs between $1100-1500 per month around here.    That's per baby!!!!! There's no way we'd be able to afford $2200-$3000 per month (although since it's twins, we'd get 10% off the second baby) yipee. how's that for a discount.
Showers. I think we're having a shower in late September early October (how's that for early). It's the last time the Dr will let me travel with twins, so that'll be our out of state shower. I don't know if we're having any others.
My next appointment is August 10th for the nuchal fold test and August 15th with the OB.

Baby showers My sister had her baby on February 7 and I planned her shower. I held it in November to avoid the holidays. I don't think it was too early for her because it gave her time to buy the stuff she didn't get at the shower. As for me, I have no idea if I'll even have a shower. I live in Mass and both my family and DH's family live far away- I can't see them planning a shower for me. My BF is moving to NY this Fall- so I think I'm feeling a little sorry for myself. ;)

Meatpie- My best friend married a very religeous Jewish guy. But that did not stop me from throwing her a shower ;). She wanted the shower and her mother and I decided that if I thre the shower, the ILs could not get upset with the family for throwing it. At the end of the day, we kept the list very small and only invited immed. family and close friends (I think we had 25-30 people). The mother in law and sister in law came to the shower, but did not bring a gift. They waited until after the baby was born. IMO - I think you should have a shower, if you want one. Good luck. I know family can really be a pain in the A$$.

Thanks for the congrats on our baby girl :) We are lucky our dd's will be so close in age, so there is less to buy! They are being born in different seasons, so clothes may be needed. I strangely have no urge to buy baby stuff this time around. Maybe its the price of the double strollers I have been looking at that are turning me off ;)

Showers Thanks for the advice about the in-laws. So funny how things have changed now (NEVER would have talked to her before the wedding). I'll talk to her, of course, and am comfortable doing so. I was just surprised she told my mom right away and not me. Anyway...we too have a ton of Jewish friends who had showers before the birth as well, including our Jewish cousin. So maybe it is just her. I never thought about the coming but not bringing a gift. I hope she'd be up for that!!!
Have a great weekend. We are finally buying new cars this weekend, yep, two cars and we need to move. Holy debt...

Tray622- Congrats on the baby girl! how exciting!! Do you have a name picked out?
Well, I used the cream the doctor prescribed for me for this little bacterial vaginosis I've picked up. I just hope that using it doesn't affect the baby in any way. Although, I know the doctor wouldn't have told me to use it if he felt it did(at least that's what I keep telling myself!).
My appetite has really picked up this morning! I just had lunch and I'd love to get a Snickers bar too but I'm getting a craving for Coldstone Ice Cream so maybe I'll save the sweets for later! :)
I'm feeling really tired and wish I wasn't at work right now. :p
Have a good weekend ladies!

meatpie hehe... I live in Orange County and work in Downey, so I am close! I find the cheapest ever was $25 a day which is closer to $500 a month for in-home care. I hope I didnt scare you... I just have found centers are an insane amount of money! I hear you on the debt... we got two new cars right before we had Zoey too! Good luck :)
Lissy I hit Coldstones last night... it was very good :p No names yet. My DH wants Nikole but I dont think it works well with having a Zoey. One sort of "normal" and the other "different." Yes, I know I am weird!
Off to get my haircut and re-highlighted today. It really needs it!

Hi Ladies. I'm back from my trip. It was one of the hardest weeks of my life. It was really hard leaving DH and Mia. What was worse was that I miscarried while I was gone. I thought the first miscarriage was bad- it couldn't even compare physically or emotionally to this time around. Luckily I have a wonderful family to come home to. I wish you all lots of luck in the next few months.

Hi ladies! I am doing well. I had a bout of nausea last night but it was nothing big. Other than that, it seems to be gone. The only other symptoms I have are the sore bbs, aftertaste after anything I eat, and fatigue. My next appointment is on Monday so I hope we get to hear the heartbeat again.
I had to stop at MIL’s last night and she gave me a gift bag from her fiance’s sister (she is from MD and was in town last week). It had a 12 pack of cloth diapers in it, a 7 pack of adorable onesies and a 3 pack of bibs. I was so shocked. I mean, I know her but was surprised she was so thoughtful as to get us something. The thank you card will go out tomorrow!

Holy schnikees on those day care costs! Oh my word. And how nice of them to give you a whopping 10% off for the 2nd child. I would definitely be staying home if I were faced with those costs. Although, I don’t make much money at all so it wouldn’t take much to make me stay home. ;)
What is the nuchal fold test? It hasn’t been brought up to me yet.

Congratulations on a GIRL! I can only imagine how much a double stroller costs! Our friends who had twins were fortunate enough to pick an Eddie Bauer one up at a church rummage sale. They said it was like brand new! I’ll send those lucky vibes your way!

I’m sorry you don’t think you will have a shower. Hmmm...you might be surprised at who will step up and have one for you. You never know! And I think, in any event, you will probably get a ton of stuff for the baby from random people who simply can’t resist baby stuff. Yeah, I am one of those people!

Two new cars! Have fun!
