DS just got this toy (the elephant) from his aunt. He seemed to love it and has been playing with it all day. Tonight I was putting it away and noticed the paint on the trunk was peeling off. The trunk is made of a bendable rubber, the rubber is yellow/green and the tip of it is painted purple. This is where it was peeling. Seeing how much has peeled off and knowing that DS was loving chewing on the trunk I know he's eaten some of it.

My question to you is

1) Does anyone else have this toy, did the trunk paint start to peel?

2) Should I just throw the toy away? At this point I won't let him play with it even though it's not on any recall list I know of. Or would giving it to charity be better?

3) How much paint does a baby need to eat for it to become dangerous (assuming it's lead paint)

4) Or am I overreacting?

I would call the company and tell them about it, personally. See what they'll offer to do for you!

ITA, call the company and ask. They'll probably replace it.

On this note, please don't give damaged toys to charity. If you feel it's dangerous for your child, don't pass it off to someone else's kid. Also, when toys are 'resold' and don't have the original packaging and information, they are much harder to get matched when there is a recall. It's best just to throw away damaged goods.

A lot of Little Tikes toys are made in the US, check their website to see if it says where that toy was made.
