Sat i purchased my dress(Maggie Sottero VINCENZA) and when i asked my sales lady about the bustle for my dress she suggested a plane one :(
It kind of look like this one
I was thinking something like this doe!
this is my dress from the back!

I just went for my first fitting this past Saturday and I wanted a fairly elaborate under bustle. She tried it out - sort of. It didn't look right so I just gave up and let her go with the one point over bustle like in your first pic. Not exactly what I wanted but whatever. I am so beyond all these little wedding details now. I give up! :o

oh! I didn't even know there was an option! i think mine is more like that "3 tier" looking one...sorry, no pic.
I loved this thread over on WC. I'm glad to see it being started here.
Here's my bustle -- a costume designer friend of mine designed it. It was permanent. It was very unique, and I loved it! :D

MLA--Your bustle has always been one of my favorites!
Thanks! :o I really liked that it's unlike any other I've seen.

The favorite part about my dress was the bustle. It was a french bustle. Here it is (sorry for the poor quality pics):
I think your dress would look FABULOUS with a bustle. Good luck! :D

Wait ... there are options for bustles? I thought there were just a couple ways and whatever worked best with the dress was the one used! Good to know! Actually ... any pictures of a bustle less plain than the first pic posted, but not quite as complex as the rest? Also, when do the bride's mom or MOH (or both ... or more!) get taught how to bustle the dress? Seriously, ladies, I am clueless about bustles! Want to fill me in? Thanks! :)
08-03-2005, 12:38 PM
Ooohh! Does anyone have pics of bustle options for a tulle skirt?
08-04-2005, 09:22 AM
I ALWAYS wanted a larger number point bustle too, but when the I asked the seamstress for somethng elaborate, she said she thought the 1 point would be best:p sigh.............
here were a couple I liked...

I love bustles!! Big huge under bustles!!!
How funny, those are exactly the two pics I brought to my seamstress! I wanted a combo of the two, here's what mine looked like :)
If I remember corrctly, mine had 12 points with 25 strips of ribbon. All the ribbons were different colors, so my BM knew which ones to tie together! It held up all night and everyone commented on how much they loved it :D

After.. not the best picture, but you can get the idea :)

Mine was very simple and easy! I loved it though!
08-13-2005, 09:19 PM
Our minister stepped on my train during pictures and broke a bunch of my bustle loops, so I don't have a good picture of it from the wedding.
Here's a picture from the seamstress' first attempt though:
08-14-2005, 08:57 AM
My train was just a layer of tulle/netting, so it didn't have enough stiffness to do a big fancy bustle. My seamstress ended up doing a simple 3-point bustle.
Here it is before being bustled:
Here is another bride who wore the same dress style as I did:
08-14-2005, 09:13 AM
here's what mine looked like...

I never even thought to get a good shot of the bustle of my dress - probably because it's simple - but here are 3 pics - the 1st of what it looked like un-bustled and the other 2 of it bustled... not the best views but it gives you an idea. The train was semi-cathedral length and had 3 hooks on it that had 3 corresponding buttons. I asked about a French-bustle but it would've been unmanageably large given the size of my skirt & train....

Some bustles that I always liked:
This is me!!! I was just coming here to post my bustle - it was an 11 point Austrian bustle - this was my inspiration pic
And here is a pic from the side of how my bustle turned out
(dancing with my dad)
10-22-2005, 09:22 AM
Sorry to double post...
Just adding that if someone wants to give you a sweep train on the end of your bustle, tell them NO!!! It gorgeous and elegant - but a pain in the neck to carry around, DH kept stepping on it, someone broke a couple of the ribbons (and it needed to be repinned), and it was hard to dance.

I liked my bustle, but it did get stepped on a lot. No worries because my wedding planners were there with saftey pins...but one piece of advice: make sure someone has safety pins just in case!
OMG! That bustle is AMAZING! Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for posting
10-23-2005, 07:30 AM
I had a combination bustle.
the white undesrkirt and train were overbustled (american bustle). 3 points.
The silver over skirt was underbustles (french bustled) 4 points.
My neighbor did it for me so we kept it simple.
I don't really have very good pics of the back of my dress but here's a general idea:
10-23-2005, 10:20 AM
Sheath bustle anyone?
I have a wonderful sheath with just a tiny bit of train, enough to step on it and ruin it. So I'm a bit worried, what I should do with it
10-23-2005, 11:03 AM
luzbel - I'm having the same problem! My dress has a detachable train, and then there's just a little sweep train, but it's definitely enough for someone to step on and ruin it! My dress should be in in about a month, so I'll get to talk to the seamstress about my options then. I'll let you know what I find out if I find out first.
Here's (http://www.leanna.com/Bridal/Bustles.htm) a good page with lots of bustles on it.
10-23-2005, 11:15 AM
Here's a previous thread (http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?t=7290) about bustles for sheath-type dresses. Hope this helps!
10-26-2005, 09:44 AM
I love bustles! I can't wait to bustle my dress. I have been to several weddings lately that they didn't bustle their dress for the reception and it got in the way! I love the look of bustles!
10-26-2005, 08:39 PM
I found some bustle pics doing an image search
I've never seen anything like this one before
This one's pretty unusual too
I don't think I've ever seen this kind of bustle on such a slim dress
10-26-2005, 08:46 PM
And a few more
10-27-2005, 10:25 PM
I originally wanted something a little fancier, like:
But my dress is silk with an English netting overlay, so it was really hard to bustle. My seamstress wanted to do a 1-point American bustle, but I begged until she agreed to try a French bustle. Here is what she came up with:
10-27-2005, 10:36 PM
I think your bustle looks great Mel :D
10-28-2005, 09:39 AM
One point bustle with 3 hooks:
10-28-2005, 11:28 AM
Can anyone point me to some pictures of bustles on chiffon dresses? I'd love to get some ideas for my dress.
10-29-2005, 09:02 PM
Not so great side shot, I had a french bustle *I think* and my sash was bustled as well.
ETA : I just found this one from a fitting, the sash ended up not being so high though.
10-30-2005, 12:45 PM
sportyj - what a gorgeous bustle and gown! Technically, I think you have an Austrain bustle (it is basically a layered French bustle).
11-01-2005, 11:54 AM

How was your bustle in terms of comfort for sitting? I just read soemthing in another thread.... and got to thinking that all those points must have been noticable when sitting for dinner?

Here's my bustle (pics from final fitting). I think it has 5 points, its under bustle so I guess its a french bustle? My seamstress just got creative and this is what she came up with - I love it! :D

I'd love to see bustle ideas for dresses with tulle skirts...
04-03-2006, 01:42 PM
I would as well. I have a fitting tomorrow and we're supposed to talk bustles. I really want an underbustle, but my seamstress says it wouldn't lay right because the skirt is tulle...:(
04-12-2006, 05:12 PM
I had an unadorned train, so I went with a french bustle.
04-19-2006, 10:20 AM
Here is mine from my first fitting.... I know I look like I'm being arrested ;)
and from the side
04-19-2006, 12:31 PM
This was taken at my second fitting. The first fitting the bustle was just pinned, here it is now! The seamstress also added more into it at my last fitting, done a week ago...I'll get to wear it this saturday! There are 16 points, whew-wee!
I'll post pictures of my bustle at the wedding! Three days to go :)
04-21-2006, 09:14 AM
Mine was a very simple double french bustle with a sweep train to add drama!
The first dance
After Ceremony walk... think you can see the sweep much better in this pic.

Here are some pics of my bustle
from the side:
Tip for bustles: Make sure a BM has safety pins. My wedding planner had to keep pinning my bustles because they kept getting stepped on and ripping. Apparently this is a common problem, but with all the safety pins the wedding planners came armed with, it was a quick fix and back to the dance floor for me :)
04-23-2006, 10:51 AM
I wore the same dress as Stacyface (just above) but my bustle was different:
03-17-2007, 03:02 PM
Bump!! Let's see some more bustles!
I really didn't want a bustle, I never liked how they look so angular from the side, and my dress was already quite busy, especially since my dress had "tails" or a sash, so we folded the train inwards and tied it with ribbons and loops to look like a floor-length plain gown, and tied the sash loosely over that to reach the same length; I was thrilled:
03-17-2007, 05:42 PM
My dress had a detachable chapel-length train and a very small sweep train on the dress itself.
Here's a pic with the train attached
The sweep train unbustled

Did anyone just *happen* to keep a picture of a former WC'er named Bombedier's bustle? She wore a sash dress, but replaced the sash with her family tartan.
05-16-2007, 10:28 AM
MAYBE at home... but I do have my dress with the sash..
