Beer Bread - Using soda as substitute?

I just got a beer bread mix from Tastefully Simple. I want to make it tonight, but I don't have any beer in the house (and I am also pregnant and not sure if I can eat beer bread...?). The directions say that I can use soda instead, but will that taste as good?

I've never had it using soda, that sounds interesting though. If you do it with the soda please tell us how it turns out!

Ahh I love Tastefully Simple! I wish you could wait, I have a list of all the sodas you can use to make different flavors.

I use beer but I was told that all the alcohol cooks out of it. :) I use real dark beer and it makes the bread so much richer tasting.

edited to add- My friend made it with a orange cream soda and it was a yummy dessert bread.

Now I'm hungry for it!

Don't know about using soda as a substitute, but you can eat beer bread if you're pregnant. Baking the bread bakes off the alcohol. In fact, I just made a loaf for a pregnant friend of mine (although I used a cider beer - Hornsby's)!

I'm sure you would be fine using beer, but if you would prefer not to, a friend of mine made it using Sprite and it was tasty. :)

It takes on a slightly different taste, but I've had it with both beer and sprite. I personally like the beer better.

My SIL has tried it with root beer and said it was way yummy. I'm not that brave. But I have tried it with Honey Weiss....so yummy....(now I'm going to end up making my last box!)
