View Full Version : Nanette Lepore sizing

I've fallen in love with a Nanette Lepore dress on Bluefly, but they don't have my size. I found it on ebay, but they have it in the smaller of the 2 sizes I tend to wear. I wouldn't be able to return it, and it isn't cheap. How do her dresses run, especially in the bust?

I was actually just searching for a pic of the Nanette Lepore dress I bought last night to ask for accessory suggestions - weird. Anyway, I bought the smaller of the 2 sizes I normally wear, but the dress I bought has sort of a stretchy fabric which I think helps in the chest area. But this is the only NL dress I've purchased, so I don't know if that is typical.

I am a devoted Nanette Lepore fan (I am actually wearing a pair of her pants right now :) ) and I always find her to run large.

However, although I own a lot of her suits and separates, I have never tried on any of her dresses so I can't help you with your specific question. I will say that in dresses made by Cynthia Steffe (similar to Nanette) the bust is always way too small. I always have to go up a size or two to get my bust safely 'in there' and then I take in the rest of the dress b/c it's too big.

My advice to you is that if you can afford to lose part of the money (I am SURE you can resell the dress on Ebay for good $$, if not for the entire price) then go for it. If you are uneasy about losing 'some' of your money than I wouldn't do it. I will tell you that I have sold several Nanette pieces on Ebay and have always been sucessful at getting great response and large sales for my items.

I'm the total opposite of the above poster..I'm busty and always find I need a larger size in Nanette Lepore, especially in the suits. I usually get a size bigger jacket and a size smaller skirt. Dresses, I get one size bigger and get it taken in where I need it. I think her clothes run small in the bust.

I found another listing on ebay for the same dress in a different size. They gave bust measurements and based on that, it looks like even if I found it in the larger of my 2 typical sizes, the bust would still be too small, so I'll probably need to go up a size bigger than normal. And of course, most of the dresses on ebay are itty bitty, so there aren't any 12s, at least not right now.

Thanks for the help though.

I am a devoted Nanette Lepore fan too! I don't own any of her dresses (yet!) but the jackets that I have seem to run either true to size or a little on the small side. I'm pretty small though in the bust area so I don't know if that makes a difference. I also own a few skirts from her and those I find to run a little on the large size. I usually wear a size 6 and have been able to wear a size 4 or 6.

Post your dress if you end up buying it! I'd love to see it. :) They're opening up a Nanette Lepore boutique close to me and I cannot wait. Dangerous on my wallet but I just adore her stuff. Feminine but whimsical as well. So nice to see other fans here! :)

Since it isn't in my size and I don't have to worry about one of you bitches stealing it ;), you can see it here. If you are a size 0, which is all they have left now, knock yourself out! they have it in black as well.

The object of my affection. (http://www.bluefly.com/pages/products/detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=2061652169&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1213&N=933&Ne=500000&Nu=Product+ID&Ntk=all&Ntt=heirloom&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial)

Looks like they have a 2 now as well. (At least they let me put a 2 in my cart, which I then promptly took out again.) Anyway, I've only owned one Nanette Lepore blouse, and as someone else said, I'm a tad busty and found a 6, which was my usual prepregnancy size, to fit a tad tight in the chest.

Ok, I am going to amend my previous statement (about never having tried a Nanette Lepore dress on.) Now that I have seen a picture of it, I remember that I tried that dress on last winter at Neimans! I have to say, I LOVED the top, but the very bottom is a little wacky. It kind of weirdly flares out (imho.) DH was with me that day and even he said something about it. I will say however, on the hanger and in pictures, it's a MARVELOUS dress! :)

I usually have to size up in Nanette Lepore shirts (I'm busty though) and her pants are true to size.

Curious - Why do you like her? Is it the quality? I'm trying to branch out from my JCrew staples.

At the risk of taking over this entire thread (Sorry Villanelle!!) I love her because she designs wearable clothing that also has that 'wow' factor. I don't think I've ever worn something of hers (whether it be a cardigan sweater or a skirtsuit) without several people giving me positive feedback throughout the day. One time, I wore one of her suits to a conference, and a woman in the row in front of me (in the conference hall) turned around and said "I just wanted you to know that all of us in this row were just talking and we just love your suit!" Maybe I'm shallow, but that made me feel so good. :D

Here's an example of one of her skirt suits
totally office appropriate, but has that extra 'oomph' that a lot of suits don't.

Dress I am lusting after at the moment

Not my favorite, but Elisabeth Hasselbeck wore this on The View back in April or May

Love this cardigan (she does lots of cute little sweaters like this one) but of course, le sigh, it's sold out!

Alert! Stil available at Bluefly in size L!

ETA: I left out....Her clothes also have incredible quality. They are expensive, but in my opinon they are worth it!

I'm looking for a few quality pieces. But I'm just not feeling her style. The suit is cute though. I guess I just can't do fussy clothes.

(I'm not stalking you I promise!)

I like a lot of her clothes and own a couple pieces (including a kimono blouse that got me through a few mos. of pregnancy!). But, Delta--if you are looking for a designer line that is a little more streamlined, try 12th Street by Cynthia Vincent. She does more "cuts" and "colors" than trims, laces, and patterns. I think her stuff is beautiful and so functional.

To give you an example--here's a sweater by her I'm currently lusting after:

Cashmere blend turtleneck:

I am just about dying for this dress for my company holiday party, but given that I'll be about 2 weeks postpartum on Dec. 1, I don't think it's happening unless God decides to bless me with a Christmas miracle :(

OK back to Nanette! :)

Thank you, Wendy, for the suggestion. :)

I am a devoted Nanette Lepore fan (I am actually wearing a pair of her pants right now :) )

Nylons: How do you like her pants? I never thought about buying a pair of Nanette Lepore pants but I'm trying to find new brands of quality trousers for work that will last for years. TIA! :)

wendalah: I love that 2nd dress you posted, especially with the silver stacked heels. So chic. I would look ridiculous in an outfit like that but I love the look.

Hey lilo!
Well, I love her pants, but she makes so many different styles that you really need to try each 'collection' to see if that particular style will work for you. She had a very high-waisted style this spring or last fall that was truly terrifying! heh ;)

What I love about most of the pants is while they are so distinctive to each of her collections, you can also mix and match them with many different tops (not just NL jackets.) I find her skirts harder to put with other things, I find her pants much more 'interchangeable' if you kwim.
