I can't believe we have a new thread already! Wow ... we really blew through that last one. I'm glad I have such a great group of mommies to talk to! You guys have been great, and I'm learning so much from you ROs especially.

QOTD Tylenol: I have been taking Extra Strength, but only one pill, and I've only done that about four times. I wasn't able to find any regular strength. A friend of mine is a physician's assistant, and she's pregnant, and she told me it's actually OK to take ibuprofen until 19 weeks, which she did. I don't care what she says (even though I believe her) ... I'm not taking ibuprofen! I wonder if doctors tell us only Tylenol because it's easier and not as many women as us know exactly how far along they are?

OK, gotta get back to paying attention to the Packer game!

Yay! Our new thread! Well, I just don't have much to post these days but I'm enjoying catching up with everyone else's posts.

One thing, tonight I was giving DD a bath and sitting on the bathroom tile floor. When I got up and bent over to scoop her out of the bathtub -OUCH-!!! I wasn't sure I'd be able to straighten up, so I moved very, very slowly. Luckily I was able to stand upright again, but I called DH into the bathroom to get her out. He might be the bathtub scooper from here on out. It was so similar to my backpain the first time around with the sciatic nerve. Serious pain! DH rubbed my very low back (almost like upper butt cheek if that makes any sense) a little and then I sat on the (carpeted) floor cross-legged and bent forward (slowly) as far as I could, palms on the floor. It felt so good on my back and all the way down my butt and stretched and loosened up where the sciatic nerve is. Amazing. I should do that every day that I can till the belly gets in the way! :)

Wow, a new thread! I've been gone for a while for a number of reasons. First reason was that I came down with a bad bout of bronchitis, and had to go on antibiotics. I really didn't want to, but I couldn't cope with it on my own and I wasn't able to take care of DS. We had to get my mum and MIL to fly over from interstate to take care of me and DS (DH works really long hours and couldn't take time off due to a couple of deals he was on). They were a godsend, but just as I was starting to improve......the morning sickness hit me really badly for 4 days. I literally couldn't leave the house. I've lost approximately ten pounds in the past week through it, and the maxillon and homeopathic morning sickness cures did nothing to help. I just had to ride it out:( I had this at the same time (a really bad patch that is) when pg with DS, so I'm hoping that that was the worst, and I'm now heading into getting better territory. Only a few more weeks and I should be fine again. Fingers crossed.

First ob appointment In the middle of all the sickness, I had my first appointment with my ob. Everything seems to be fine, but the baby is measuring a whole week ahead. As we used ovulation test sticks, I know that the dates are correct, and my ob agreed with me saying that as DS was such a big first baby, she often finds that the second baby measures big even at this early stage. DS was 9lbs7oz, so who knows what this baby is going to be. I'm now thinking maybe it is going to be a boy if it is big. It was great to see the baby on the screen wiggling away. I had been so focussed on being sick, keeping DS happy etc, I had kind of forgotten about the baby in a way:o I had to go and get some blood tests done for the nuchal fold test this week, and I was in a really bad period of morning sickenss, so that was horrible. DH drove me there while I held a bucket on my lap:(

I'm going to go back to the old thread now and going to try to catch up on the past week and a half. Wow you guys are chatty on here!!!

Hello new thread!

I just wanted to stop by and give an update on my monthly check-up last night. Everything went smoothly and quickly. I gained 3 lbs since week 9, so not too bad! The baby's heartbeat was pumping away at around 140. I also got the paperwork to have my Quad screen done between 16 and 18 weeks.
My next appointment is 11/28

Someone is going to call me today to get me set up with my weekly progesterene shots. I found out a little more about these last night....
Our bodies are naturally producing progesterne to help sustain the pregnancy, so by adding more into my system, it's kind of like "super sustaining power." It won't prevent my water from breaking early again, but if that happens, my body might still hold off in going into labor. So that is that....

Yikesanemone, sounds like you've had a rough month. I hope you're on the up swing!!!

smilewithme- Thanks for that tip on how to combat sciatic pain. Mine has gone away since hitting the 12 week mark, but if it comes back this will be helpful info.

Anemone - Oh my! Sounds like a tough month (or two)! I hope your m/s eases soon!

Tylenol - I take tylenol for aches and pains. I did some preliminary googling on motrin/ibuprofen, and most doctors don't recommend it because (a) there just isn't much research on motrin use in pregnant women and (b):

There is concern with the use of ibuprofen in the third trimester. The greatest concern is for premature closure of the ductus arteriosus (a vessel in the fetal heart), which can lead to high blood pressure in the fetal lungs (pulmonary hypertension). The use of ibuprofen later in pregnancy may inhibit labor or cause reduced amount of amniotic fluid (oligohydramnios).
from this link (http://www.clinicalanswers.nhs.uk/index.cfm?question=2403).

I'm getting a little cold (probably from DS) and gosh, I hope it passes soon! Everyone ready for Halloween? DS has a party at preschool tomorrow, then we'll try trick-or-treating. Of course, I haven't bought any candy at all. This is our first year in this house, and the street seems so quiet, I wonder if we'll get anyone here at all.

You poor thing! I hope you're now on the mend!

Halloween
I live on a very hilly street with steep driveways. Last year, DH left a bucket of candy on the front stoop and no one touched it. This year we bought nothing. We take DD to my SILs house to trick or treat. She lives in a development that is overrun with kids. The police and fire trucks also come through her development and give out treats to the kids. DD loves trick or treating with her cousins too. I was never big on Halloween as an adult, but since DD is born, Halloween is my favorite holiday. She absolutely loves it which makes me love it!

Me
I'm sick with a sore throat. DD is (hopefully) getting over a cold too. I feel a little better now as I'm not as tired or sick as I was just a week ago. Hopefully I'm heading toward the light at the end of this tunnel!

I'm now going to attempt to post a 12 week belly shot...

Mrs. Chappy- I'd like to have the Loft promotional code. I received a $100 gift card for my birthday and thought I'd have to wait until after baby comes to use it. But a friend mentioned that they now sell maternity clothes, so that is great! The stuff is pretty pricey for something I'll wear only a few months, so a small discount would help! Thanks!

Last pregnancy I almost exclusively wore Old Navy, GAP and Target maternity clothes. The most expensive thing I bought was a $45 pair of jeans from Motherhood. But sadly that was the spring/summer, so it was mostly tanks, T shirts and shorts. I have maybe 3 pair of dress pants, 2 pair of jeans and almost nothing with long sleeves. I'm going to have to load up my Christmas wish list with maternity clothes.

If you spend $150 you get 20% off and free shipping. i saved $32 bucks plus i got the free shipping..and they are doing a promo that for every 50 you spend you get a $25 saviings card.. can't beat that, right?

smilewithme- Ouch on the back pain. I think I'm to the point in my pregnancy where stuff is really starting to move around, and I've been getting random pains in various parts of my belly. Some are really painful!

anenome- I feel bad that you were so sick. Having an illness like that, on top of being pregnant, must have been horrible.

Standrea- You're welcome! It was quite easy, actually. Just a little copy and paste, and it was done in no time. The hardest part was picking out a thread title! I thought "Second Trimester" was a bit boring! But creative headline writing is something I'm not great at (I have to do it for my job), so this will have to do!

E&O- That sucks you have to wait longer for the big u/s! I don't schedule mine until my next appt. on Nov. 19, but I don't usually have to wait long to get in at my doctor's office.

IrishEyes- I have a cold or sinuses or something too. I've felt crappy all day and have been sneezing nonstop. We had trick-or-treating on Sunday, and we only had about six different groups stop by. I had everyone take a few pieces of candy, but we still had a ton left. Our subdivision is only about 35 percent filled in, so I guess that was to be expected!

Mrs.Chappy- I hope the clothes fit correctly! I'm temped to browse the Web site, but I don't have to be too formal at work and I can get by wearing Gap, ON and Target. Sigh. I wish I had an unlimited maternity budget!

Jessiesmama- Your DD is so cute in that pic. Did you send that one out to family and friends, by any chance? It just screams, "I'm going to be a big sister and I'm really pissed off about it!" ;) ;)

Me- I have had a headache all day, and I cannot wait another 15 minutes until I can leave work. Have I mentioned that I hate working? ;) (I'm sure I have, because I really do.) I've actually been getting headaches a lot more often lately, and I really hope they don't become reoccurring for the rest of this pregnancy. Like I mentioned above, I'm getting random pains in my belly lately. They come and go and are here and there. Nothing special, but they can be kind of painful!

So, when do you guys think I should start looking into childcare? It's tough because I'm not exactly what my work situation will be once the baby comes (I hope to work from home for a few days a week), so I wouldn't have anything definite to tell a daycare. I know I need to start thinking about some of these things.

DH and I put together the crib on Sunday (it only took about 20 minutes). Mom and Dad brought it down when we moved in, and I wanted it out of the big box. Now we just need a mattress!

Hey girls! I forgot to tell you what happened to me last night.

I was taking a shower, and sometime I like to sit on the bottom of the tub with the water beating down and hitting me. Well, last night, when taking a shower, i decided to lay down in the tub. I COULDN"T GET UP! I had to turn off the water, and scream for Stan to come in and help me up! my back gave out on me or something. OH, the joy of back pain during pregnancy.

And, I've been peeing so often today. It's quite annoying, actually!

smilewithme
10-30-2007, 04:01 PM
Standrea - OMG!!! I had to chuckle at your bathtub story, not to be mean at all, but I can relate! Seriously, back pain stories and pregnancy seem to go hand in hand! I have one more tidbit to go along with your story and my story from last night. First time around I was about 4 months along and it was the weekend we moved into our new house. My hubby and one of his friends were putting together a new coffee table and I laid down on the floor with my feet up on the stairs to relax. When I decided to get up I simply couldn't, my back did the same thing yours did. So I rolled side to side a few times to see if I could roll over and couldn't do anything. Since they were in the middle of doing a job I wanted them to finish, I didn't ask for help till they were done! :)

Jessiesmama - GREAT pics! I love the one of your daughter crying with her Big Sis shirt on...too funny.

Quick drive by post...again I know but I been tired as a dog! I must get on here earlier! Can't believe we on our second thread and also second trimester! When the next thread comes we'll be in the home stretch!

Andrea: That is funny. Today I was actually walking like an old lady cause my back was just killing me. I can just imagine how it felt in the bath tub...least you had nice warm water falling on you :)

Becky: Me too! I wish I didn't have to work! Blah! Least you don't work with bitchy lady I do! As for day care our work provides that so we don't have to worry thankfully.

Jessiesmama: Your DD is so precious. And I love your caption.

Otherwise nothing new with me. Still one day nauseous the next day bloated and then the next day constipated. I hate that I can't just have one good day, kwim!

Tomorrow I have my second appointment so hoping to hear the heartbeat!

Hope you all doing well! :)

Standrea - Oh no about the bathtub story. My BFF warned me not to do that what I was in labor because she couldn't get back up, but you never would think it would happen in the first trimester.

I have to call my OB's office and bug them about my appointment for my nuchal fold test. Now that I am 11 weeks I have entered the time frame to have it.

Thanks for starting the new thread!

Standrea OMG, luckily Stan was around to help you out!

Jessiesmama, the picture is so cute. I hope you sent it off to everyone!

Mrs.Chappy, thanks fo rthe code. I usually buy all of my clothes there and when they finally came out maternity I was so excited. Since this one is due exactly when DD was, I have a ton of clothes for the right season. That being said I didn't like wearing all of the clothes I had and actually got bored with a few pieces. Guess I better shop this week to save money! OH and I love when they do the $25 giftcard thing. Last time I spent money just so I could get $200 in giftcards. love it!

MrsBeckyLP for childcare it sortof depends on your area. A lot of areas have daycare centers with long wiat lists. I put my name down in October when I was pregnant with DD (due in May). And I just barely got her in because someone had left. So I ended up paying for a month early (I was still on FMLA/maternity leave) just so I could get a spot. Otherwise I would had to have waited until she was 7 months old (when the next spot finally opened)!

Halloween
DD had a costume parade at daycare on Friday. DD was a flower fairy. Then on Sunday, my husband and I hosted the Knights of Columbus Halloween party. DD was a Redskins cheerleader then (I apologized to her all evening. I mean I didn't even think we would win but who knew we'd get so crushed?). Today, when I pick her up from Daycare I am putting her in her flower fairy costume, and we have to stop by grandma and grampa's (my parents) house, then we're going to Honey Graham and Poppy's (inlaws)house, then we'll get home I'll feed her some dinner, then we'll go to a few neighbors' houses.

me: Feeling pretty good this morning. Next appt is on Nov. 5 for Nuchal fold test and Nov. 7 for my next OB appt. !

I FINALLY got through to my OB's office. My nuchal fold is November 9 We get to have it at the hospital. Yeah! Last time most of my u/s were at the hospital but on Friday I was told they were moving them back to my doctor's building where the u/s machines are not as good - the hospital I go to the dedicated fetal medicine u/s area and the rooms are so luxurious - DH and I get our own monitor to view instead of having to try to look at the u/s machine. It's a PITA to go into the hospital, but it so worth it.

And we get to drive by Fenway Park and see the WS banner....sorry, had to rub that one in :)

Andrea, I forgot to comment about your shower incident!

Since the shower door isn't on our tiled shower yet, we've been using the guest bathroom to shower. I keep thinking about sitting down on the floor (a tub/shower combo) to shave my legs so I don't have to bend over, but something in my head keeps telling me I won't be able to stand back up when I'm done, so I don't do it. After reading your story, I'm definitely not doing it! (And in the meantime, I haven't shaved my legs!) I might take a bath in the soaking tub tonight, but I'll make sure DH is on hand to help me get up if need be!

DH has been really crabby lately, and I'm thisclose to punching him. I'm not sure exactly what his problem is, but he just has a poor attitude about everything. I keep telling him that I'm sorry if it's because I'm a bit crabby at times, but he needs to learn to deal with it for the next six months because sometimes I just can't help it. The problem is that when I try to talk to him about things, he always thinks I'm yelling (and I'm not raising my voice in the slightest) and nagging at him. If he would actually listen to what I'm saying, he would know I just want to discuss a few things. He cannot have a serious conversation about stuff like that (I need help around the house, and it will only get worse once the baby comes) without immediately thinking I want to yell at him. I tried to talk to him about it the other night and he got mad at me right away. I keep telling him to check his attitude, but he's not doing a very good job of it. :mad:

I can't believe I'm going to be 14 weeks already tomorrow. I think I'm going to get nachos from Qdoba for lunch. My head tells me I can eat naughty stuff like that since I lost four pounds according to my last appointment. :rolleyes::p

I think I'm going to get nachos from Qdoba for lunch.

SOOOOOOO jealous! I discovered Qdoba about 1/2 way through my first pregnancy. We ate lunch there during the break from our all day birthing class. Thank god it is not close driving distance from my house because I would be there all the time. I adore their chicken quesadillas.

I was pretty proud of myself for only gaining 3 lbs between my 9 week and 13week appointments, and 5 lbs overall. Until I looked at my stats from pregnancy #1 and saw that I did not weigh this much until week 15-16 last time. I guess it's not too bad, but I thought I was kicking butt!

Thanks girls. I must have forgot to mention that he didn't come in for another 10 minutes, because he was watching tv and thought I was joking. DD was quite concerned though, and started crying. She's such a mama's girl.

Becky-I know alot of people have to set up daycare WAY ahead of time, because of long waiting lists.

Lolly-Is M being the fairy from gymboree? that's what abbie is! Everyone was so confused whether or not she was a flower, a strawberry, or a fairy.

Hmmm...sounds like I'm missing out on some good mexican food at Qdoba; I've never heard of it! I could eat mexican food every day of the week for every meal and be quite happy with myself. I LOVE it! In fact, that's what was for lunch today.

Becky - Your daycare question got me thinking about daycare for #2. I'm hoping my current daycare offers a discount for 2 kids. I can't imagine forking up double what I pay now, I'm not sure we could manage it. :eek:

I lived down the block from a Qdoba in college, and I ate there at least three times a week, no lie. Pretty sure that's why I got a bit chubby those two years! I could also eat Mexican food for every meal every day, but I've really been all about Italian since I got PG. I guess I'll take either now!

eta: Question about measuring baby. I've been wondering this, and now there is a thread about a baby measuring small. How, other than with an u/s, do doctors measure the baby? I've been wondering how (s)he is growing, and I was wondering if it's something my doc can measure at my next appt.?

I seem to remember the morning sickness being worse in the 2nd trimester with DS and it's definitely getting worse. As long as I stay on top of the reglan, it's ok, but I've been getting up in the middle of the night to gag, cough up phlem and puke some stomach acid. Fun times! It's even worse now because I managed to get a cold while visiting the relatives. Ds is sick too and this is a whole bunch of no fun. He puked on me 3 times on the trip home.

I'm almost positive I felt the baby yesterday. I was lying down to take a nap, and I felt this little punch from the inside. I had been feeling flutters for a while, but they could easily be gas or intestinal movement. I think this had to be baby.

I canceled the nuchal fold test. They wouldn't let me bring DS, which meant that DH couldn't come in. And DH seeing the baby was the only reason why I was doing the test. Plus the office was really rude about the whole thing. I'm also thinking of seeing if I can get in with my first choice Doctor's office as the current one doesn't really inspire confidence.

Hi everyone!

Nuchal
Had the nuchal today. (Thanks for the well wishes Mrs Chappy!). Everything looked good according to the tech - now I wait for my results which should be in next week. I'll post photos as soon as I scan/upload.

OB
I had an OB appointment before my nuchal. I gained three pounds between week 8 and 12. Not terrible. (I gained a massive amount of weight with number one so I'm trying hard to be better this time, although Halloween didn't help :rolleyes:) Anyway, I had terrible edema (swelling) of my legs and feet with number one. It started at month 6 last time and I was put out of work by month seven (to lie on my side). Well, it's starting already. The Dr. was not happy to see my legs looking so tight in the third month. He said to keep working for now... I have a feeling I'll be put out of work by month five. Apparently, the problem is that as my uterus expands it puts too much pressure on the vena cava and the blood flow is restricted to the lower half of my body. Not thrilled this is starting so early...

Halloween
DD was Piglet. Poor Piglet had a bad cold so we didn’t go down to SIL’s house. We went to the mall instead. I was going to swing over to my BFF’s house and have DD trick or treat with her son, but she just wasn’t feeling up to it by 5:00. We’re ending the day with DD in a “vapor bath” right now. Hopefully she’ll be feeling better tomorrow.

Jessiesmama- hope the results come in positive as well.

sophonisba- sounds like it's time for a Dr. change. Sorry you're so sick! I now wonder if my ob will let my DD be in the room for the big u/s. She dang well better. We get to videotape it.

Standrea- how horrible! My knees are acting up...those 40 lb. I gained with DD ruined my knees. I can commiserate!

MrsChappy- OMG- I buy from ATL, and I didn't even know they had maternity. I haven't been in there since being pg. Thanks for the tip and the code!

mexican- we used to eat at our local place at least once a week. Now I want NOTHING mexican. I don't know why. Makes me want to hurl just thinking of it.

sick kids- seems all of our kids are sick. DD still has this cold (or is it now a cold morphed into a 2nd cold?) since two Mondays ago. She is coughing up stuff sometimes. Not green luckily. Poor baby. It will suck to have two sick kids at the same time!!

I have good days and bad days with the m/s. I am super tired at certain points of the day. I'm using Dora as my key to nappy time. How sad!

Today we trick or treated down our street. DD was SOOO cute. Just the look in her eyes and the way she was walking so determined, such a pretty stride. We didn't use the stroller and I'm so glad b/c she was so adorable. I just fall in love with her all over again when I see things through her eyes- see her so happy. She was a bumble bee. She stayed up an hour past her bedtime! She loves (is obsessed with) punkins...what to do once they're gone?!

MsBecky- Another way that they begin to measure the size of the baby is by measuring your bump when it begings to grow. They basically take a tape measure and measure the bump from under your boobs to right at your pelvis (or wherever your bump start and stop). If I remember correctly, one of the midwives told me that the measurement should coordinate with the # of weeks you are along.

But basically they rely on the that and your ultrasounds.

IrishEyes

MsBecky - they measure your bump, like E&O said. Somehow the doctor or midwife can feel the top of the uterus and measures from there to the top of the pubic bone and # centimeters = # weeks. The u/s (I only have one at 18-20 weeks) also confirms size when they measure leg bone length, circumference of head and circumference of baby's belly.

Glamagal - Brody is also obsessed with pumpkins. He wasn't so interested in trick-or-treating. He went into shy mode at the doors. Oh well, he's not too interested in candy either. He was great at the preschool's Halloween parade, though he just kept pulling his teacher along. Here's a picture of my spiderman:

As i sit here feasting on Almond Joy....i'll tell you that i told the director of my dept. She said she figured it was coming. I reiterated that i have been so nervous since the m/c (which she knows about b/c i was supposed to be going to a conference out of town the day after i found out). She was so supportive and told me to relax! i already told her who i want to 'train' to do my stuff as i am out on maternity leave.

Nuchal: i called my OB office, they received the blood results but not the sonogram re port so i called the sonography office in the hospital where i work and they are faxing it again. So glad i am on top of this as i have an appt this afternoon!! Then i am outing myself to the world, esp. if everything is normal which i pray it will be.

Halloween: last night was one of the highlights of being a mom. I loved taking DS out trick or treating. he had a blast. He loves candy, something he gets from me. He got such good stuff..its the perfect time to be pregnant!

Nuchal a lot of you have talked about getting the nuchal. I hadn't heard of it before, and I asked my OB at my 10/16 appt. she said it's similar to the triple test-to determine a risk for down syndrome. We chose not to do the triple test with DD, so we aren't planning on doing the nuchal, or the triple test again. Are there any of you that aren't having the test done?

Halloween we went out last night and it was a blast. we just stayed on our street and the cul-de-sac across from us. DD was the Great Pumpkin and she was too cute-i'll post pictures later when I get them uploaded on the computer. she was pooped from all the walking, which wasn't that much, but to a 23 month old, it was a lot! she still doesn't get the whole concept, but she had fun for the most part. i agree w/ Mrs. Chappy-it definitely is a highlight of being a mommy. :)

I melted last night. Watching how much fun DH had with DD was the highlight of my month. Abbie sat on daddy's shoulders and they ran up driveways to trick or treat. They both had such fun smiles and grins and were laughing. If my girlfriend sends me the pictures, I'll be sure to post them.

OH, and lets not forget the pregnant chick that ran to the firetruck to get her free cider and donut! My friend has a picture of that too. Not one of my best moments.

We chose not to do the triple test with DD, so we aren't planning on doing the nuchal, or the triple test again. Are there any of you that aren't having the test done?

rachrich- We chose not to do the nuchal test, mostly because I don't think my insurance would have covered the early testing. At first we discussed not doing the triple/quad screening either. But when my midwife asked me about this at my appt, I kind of caved and said yes. I've got paperwork to do the quad test, but want to see how much my insurance covers before getting it done. A positive result would not cause us to do anything differently, so we were like why bother. But part of me would like the reassurance.

IrishEyes

Nuchal - my midwife said they would have had to write me a referral to an Ob or Peri if I wanted to have the first trimester screening (which includes the nuchal). I have decided to have the second trimester screening done, which is solely a blood test and the midwife can order that. I did not have any screening done when I was pregnant with DS, but I'm a little more concerned about my risks now.

rachrich- we did the nuchal with DS and I canceled it this time around. The ultrasound place was being a jerk. I was only doing it for the extra ultrasound anyway. We had tried to do the nuchal 2 weeks ago, but baby was 1 mm too small for the test so we rescheduled. Based on what I could see, their ultrsound machine sucked anyway.

DS is still super sick and so am I. We might have to go into the doc tomorrow if he isn't better. He's developing this nasty barking cough.

OB said the results for the nuchal look good. Went over stats with me. I was relieved. Couldn't hear the hb w/ the doppler so i freaked and he turned on the u/s machine for me and we saw the baby resting and saw the hb. phew..spotting a bit every week still but the internal today revealed a closed cervix w/ no polyps or cysts. He told me to return in 2 weeks (i think mainly b/c i'm a headcase). I'm still on pelvic rest (no exercise or sex).. next appt 11/15

Hi girls,

So yesterday was our first official Halloween. We don't do Halloween in South Africa so I was pretty excited. We had a dinner party at our house. No one wanted to dress up but it was still fun. I was a little disappointed as we only had around 10 kids knock at our door. We had bought so many sweets and had asked the guests to bring candy for trick or treaters too. Well by the time the party started all the trick or treaters had come for the evening so that was a bit disappointing for me. Boohoo. So now we have a ton of candy here at home which is not good when we have a pregnant lady in the house. haha! But the kids were so cute! Can't wait for my turn!

Talking of pregnancy, yesterday we went for our second check up. It was a bit rushed. Clearly the doctor was running behind so that was a bit irritating. She didn't really have time to answer my questions and even looked a bit bothered when we asked her extra questions...she just wanted to get out and on to the next client. That made me a bit pissy...but I couldn't be mad as yesterday we GOT TO HEAR THE HEARTBEAT!! I actually got a tear in my eye. It was marvelous! We go back for our monthly check up on the 28 Nov and we get our BIG ultrasound on the 7th of Dec. And yes, we will be finding out the sex ;)

Otherwise just so tired as usual. Didn't feel queasy today so that is good!

MrsChappy: YAY! Now go spread the news!

rachrich: We aren't getting either done.

Morning ladies! I cant believe that I am 14 weeks already. This pregnancy is really flying by.

Halloween-My DD went trick or treating with my nephew. We didnt do too many houses (she's only 15 mos) but we all had a great time. Of course, I was too tired and lazy to upload the pictures, so I think I'm the only one I know who hasnt sent out photos yet!

nuchal-We're getting it done mainly b/c we want the 12 week u/s, like another poster said. My measurements were normal but we are waiting on the bloodwork for the full analysis as it is part of the integrated test.

sophonisba- I hope you and your DS feel better soon!

MrsChappy-Glad to hear everything is okay!

I've been feeling pretty good lately. I still cant stay up much past 9:30 (although I made it to 10 last night!) but my nausea is gone.

I broke out the belly band the other week and have started wearing it to work. It is a life saver! It took me a couple times to get used to it but now I dont even notice it.

Is the 2nd trimester only 2 weeks away.... I'm so so so freaking tired right now that I can't wait for the rumored "I feel great" phase of pregnancy.

The nausea has gone away, but the exhaustion has kicked itself into high gear this week and it's killing me. Even after naps and 7 hours of sleep at night. Needless to say, I'm so happy it's the weekend and I get to sleep in!

We are getting a Nuchal next week - mostly for the 12w u/s but also since we don't know DH's genetic history (he's adopted), its good to know if we need to be prepared for anything down the road. I don't think it's going to make a difference for us, but I think it will be good to know "Just in case" as we can be prepared for a challenged child if need be.

I'm hoping with this U/S they will tell us that I can go off of pelvic rest - as our appt is also the day of our wedding anniversary. Poor DH hasn't got any for 3 months now, and I'm feeling pretty guilty. :o So hopefully all will look good and it can be a nice little anniversary present for us both. ;)

And my husband thinks it's bad that he only gets it about once a week? Please! I think he's slowly getting used to his dwindling sex life, because he hasn't been bugging me as much lately. And when I tell him "no," he listens most of the time and doesn't keep bugging me.

I haven't been here since Monday, so this could be a long one, bear with me...

Update on me: I'm still working on getting my Jeep fixed after hitting the deer on Monday. Turns out it doesn't run afterall, so it is still in the parking lot where I work. I got one estimate on Tuesday, but then started to hear things about the shop I contacted - they are around the corner from where I work, I thought it would be convenient, guess that's not always a good thing. So, I had to get another quote. Well, it was about $1500 higher than the first! Now I'm working with the insurance to figure out how much they'll give me and where I can get it fixed. In the mean time, my rental vehicle is an '06 Explorer. It's nice and I like that it has more room than my Jeep, but goodness it uses a lot more fuel! (I drive a diesel). Plus, it doesn't have any options. I'm used to all of the extras...on the plus side, at least I won't be tempted to trade in my Jeep once it's fixed, and I don't have to drive DH's work car (2-door '97 Sunfire) - his truck is too big and noisy to drive everyday.

Bump: I'm totally showing now. I haven't made the move to maternity clothes yet, but there is no denying I've got something going on! They weren't kidding when they said you show earlier the second time around!

M/S: Luckily I didn't get sick with DS and hadn't so far this time, but...this morning when I woke up I felt so SICK. I was nauseous, light headed, and felt like I was going to faint. I made my way down the hall for a glass of water and laid on the cool tile in the bathroom for a few minutes, then it passed. I hope this isn't a reoccuring thing, especially at 12 weeks! But mostly, I FEEL SO SORRY for those of you who battled/are battling m/s. I've given my sympathies in the past, but I had no idea what you were really encountering on a daily basis until today. I don't know how you did it!

Halloween: Unfortunately, we got a late start on Halloween and DS was pretty tired. Not to mention he's pretty much a momma's boy anyway. So, he refused to walk, or even let me put him down, and whenever someone opened the door, he burried his head in my shoulder and wouldn't look at them. Poor little guy...maybe next year he'll be into it more. He does love his candy though - totally gets that from me, DH freaks (he's a health nut, most of the time).

Nuchal/Triple-screen: We didn't do either last time and won't this time. I would love the opportunity to get to see the little bug earlier than January, but in the end, it wouldn't be worth it. I have no idea what portion my insurance would pay, and what would I do with the information - stress for the next 6 months? Neither of us need that. So, we're passing...

DTD: Oh, I wish I could be put on pelvic rest! Becky, my DH is like yours - thinks he'll die if he doesn't get it on a regular basis...and I just have NO desire right now. I'm exhausted, I don't feel very sexy or romantic, and he gets on my nerves more than usual...

Tasha: Glad you enjoyed your first official Halloween!

I'm sure there are other SO's I'm forgetting...but this post is probably long enough as it is!

I've slept most of the day, I'm just so tired and sick. Turns out DS has a double ear infection and was working on a case of bronchitis. This is his first ear infection, poor little bug. I was feeling so crappy waiting for the antibiotics that I called DH and made him come home so I could sleep. I was up at 5 am puking and never really got back to sleep after that.

I just had to tell you guys this. My DH isn't a mushy, sensitive dude, but last night we were lying in bed, and -- after he finally realized he wasn't getting any action -- he put his head on my belly and started talking to the baby. "Hi baby, I'm your daddy. Yes, I'm your daddy. I love you so much." I just about melted. I never expected him to do anything like that, and hearing it made me love him so much more!

MrsBecky, That is SO cute!!! :D

Nuchal: Nope, we declined it both times. We had an u/s last pgcy at 12 weeks because we couldn't find the h/b on the doppler. I have another appt on 11/8 to check for the h/b again, and I think if we can't find it then, we will be sent for an u/s just to make sure everything is ok. I have no worries right now.. and am a bit excited at the thought of an u/s! :D But hearing the h/b on the doppler will be awesome too! :)

Becky that is so sweet. :) and I like how you added....after he realized he wasn't getting any!

DTD if only my DH would realize the same thing.
I'm so darn tired all the time. I fall asleep around 8:30 just about every night on the couch watching TV. and he gives me the hardest time about it, and we do it about once a week. He's says stupid things like "I guess I have to realize our marriage is sexless" or "you won't have sex anymore cause you got what you wanted (the baby)" BAH-it drives me nuts and i don't argue with him anymore, i just ignore him, or say mmhmm and nod. whatever..... I feel bad i'm not in the mood, but it's so hard right now.

Nuchal Like I said in a pevious post, we're not doing it again either. Like someone mentioned, we wouldn't do anything different no matter how the results would come out. And I would hate worrying and stressing the whole pregnancy if the test showed a higher risk for something.

After realizing that my body just wasn't going to do the job, it hurts your psyche a little. I guess you lose your mojo when you're told your eggs just aren't up to snuff, but that your DH is FERTILE!! Hi ladies,
I only seem to come online on weekends b/c I have no time during the week so I am always so far behind!!!

Not much new here. I am DEFINATELY showing, even though I am just shy of 14 weeks. Normally it is just bloat from the constipation but when that issue goes away I have a cute little belly. So since I am short I must just be showing early.

I am pretty upset...we just got a new bedroom set and I have these rubber coasters...I left one on our dresser and when I went to clean today it lifted some of the finish off. I am SOOOOO upset. Literally I was in tears....I hate that I ruined it.

Otherwise, work and school keep me on my toes...I will be glad to hit 14 weeks and officially be in the second trimester...that is wednesday!

TM can you update some stuff for me?
It is no longer twins, our EDD is moved to May 7th, and my "big" u/s is Dec 11
Thanks!

Happy Saturday everyone! :)

21daisygirl- a couple of months ago, I put a damp towel on a piece of furniture to iron b/c I was too lazy to go downstairs to get the ironing board. Well, needless to say, it left a big white moisture stain on the furniture. I was so upset, I went online and found this miraculous remedy- mix ashes (I used some from the fire place) with mayonaise to form a paste, then spread it generously on the damaged portion of the furniture with a non-abrasive cloth. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it worked! The furniture is as good as new, shiny finish and all. Turns out many people who restore old furniture use this trick. The directions I found also say you may want to apply heat (i.e. a blow dryer) to the area after you apply the ashes/mayo mixture, but I didn't even need to do that. Hope it works for you too.

Dettes-Thanks for that tip. I'm actually really excited about it. My BIL used a paper plate with eggs on it on our cherry dining room table, and when we asked him to use a placemat because he would burn it, he said "I don't need one, and I refuse to use one, they are stupid". After he was done, there was a huge white burn in my table. He did it again a few months later. I can't wait to try your trick. It can't make it any worse, even if it doesn't work!

I also tried to buy some maternity shirts cause all my shirts my tummy is starting to show underneath. But I couldn't find anything nice that wasn't super expensive. I just went to the normal clothes and bought sizes bigger and that works. I think I am going to start sewing for later... :rolleyes:

Someone asked if we feel like time is flying by... I really don't! I know I'm 14 weeks already and into the second tri. But it seems like May is still SOOOOO far away. I'm not really showing yet so I think that makes it feel so far off. But I'm sure now that the holidays are approaching and everything will go into a state of festive chaos, the time will start passing much more quickly.

To all the ROs- is anyone else starting to panic a bit? I am starting to worry about handling 2 kids- especially two under 2 years old. We were at breakfast with my parents yesterday morning and my DD was so uncooperative, flinging her self out of the high chair, screaming and crying (all of which are very unlike her) and I just kept thinking "What the hell am I doing having another, I can't control this one!"

I just remember my maternity leave with DD- staying in bed until 9 am if we wanted to, nursing sessions that were relatively quiet and relaxed (unless the dogs picked that minute to smack at the patio door because they wanted to go outside. Smack, smack, smack for 20 minutes straight), and long naps when the baby slept. I feel like NONE of that will happen this time around.
I know that DD will mostly like be at daycare for at least 1/2 the day so it will allow some release, but I am starting to worry about coping with it all.

But with #1 I thought I'd be one of those moms who sits in the closet and crys all day and I managed to survive that, so I know I can survive this too!

E&O: i am trying to get control of it now but when the second a rrives i will freak. This weekend i made DH get closet doors for the new nursery which is now a guest room. We also went straight from the OB on thursday and bought DS a bedrooms set. So, i am 'preparing' but i think that no matter how much you think about it, we will be overwhelmed when the baby arrives. My friend who has a two year old and a 4 month old still feels like she was slapped in the face.

Handling 2?? - Friday I was in BRU getting a baby gift and I started to have a mini-panic attack. Though part of it was mixed with excitement. I hadn't been in BRU in so long, but in the last 2 years we've spent so much time and money there, I kind of miss it. So I am looking forward to going and buying bottle and pacifiers and such. Though it is kind of sad that we won't have to get that much.
I am thankful that DD will be in daycare - I really don't think I could handle it if I had to watch her too. Those days of staying in bed after DH went to work will be nice, but it's not like I won't be up in the mornings helping DD get ready.

To me this pregnancy is dragging!! There are disadvantages to knowing you are pregnant on 10 DPO. Much with the nuchal test this Friday and the second trimester in a couple of weeks, and then the holidays, before I know it it will be New Years and I will be 1/2 was through.

Flying by? I guess it's been going faster then the first pregnancy. That one dragged because I was so excited. I'm definitely busier this time with work and a toddler, so weeks go by faster. I think it'll feel more real when I start showing and after the u/s in December.

Handling 2? I think I'm in denial, or just trying hard not to think about it. I'm just happy that Brody is getting more and more independent, and that DH is so good with him. That's going to be huge for me. Those first 6 months post-partum were physically difficult for me (much more than pregnancy), so we'll have to get through that the best we can. I have to say, having Brody at MIL's or daycare during the week is going to save me.

Got the Nuchal results today.
I'm in the Intermediate risk category. Apparently, for my age (34) my risk of having a child with Downs is 1 in 300. My number came back 1 in 844. Not bad, but it puts me in the intermediate range. They want the number to come back 1 in 1000 or greater. At 1 in 844my risk is that of a 27 year old (which I think is great). So I have to wait until I'm 15 weeks (2 weeks from today) and go back for another blood draw.

My best friend just went through this. We're the same age and her original number was 1 in 477. Then after the second blood draw, she was 1 in 89! They did an amnio and she had to wait 2 weeks for the results. She just got the call on Thursday that the baby is perfect.

Sometimes these tests cause more stress than they reduce. :confused:

Happy Monday, hope everyone is feeling good. Had an OB appt. last week, Dr. couldn't find the HB on Doppler, so he sent me for another ultrasound. Saw and heard the HB right away. I have a feeling that I am a few days to a week earlier than the Dr. has me down - pure speculation, but I think I may have had late implantation. Anyway, that would put my due date closer to the end of the month, or even the very beginning of June. I have to schedule my nuchal fold in the next week or so. Other than that, everything else is status quo. Not showing yet, but I'm predicting that will change rapidly in the next few weeks. Next appt. is Nov. 28th.

2 under 2 if it eases your fears at all E&O, I think it was harder going from 0 to 1 than 1 to 2. I think because I was already in the throws of it when DD arrived. I had come to terms with the fact that my life was changing diapers and perpetually washing bottles and breast pumps. Don't get me wrong it was definitely chaotic at times, especially durning the bewitching hours (4:00- 5:00 pm) when both were hungry and tired. My saving grace was that I got them on the same napping schedule, so I had at least two hours in the middle of the day to get stuff done if I had the energy or to veg if I didn't. Of course you can't get an infant on a schedule, but by the time she was three months old, both of mine were napping at the same time. (DS was still taking 2 naps a day at that time). Even now, they both nap right after lunch. I am a little nervous about # 3, becase my kids will be 2 and 3 when the new one arrives. They are so much more independent now. Its going to be hard to go back to the infancy stage. Although I guess the older ones can entertain themselves for a while when I have to tend to the baby. (wishful thinking right?) Mostly I'm scared because DH and I will be out numbered!

Jessiesmama: just read your post..i have heard from friend's experiences that many times these stats just require more and more testing. In the end i hope you can breathe a sigh of relief. My friend was preggers w/ twins and got not so good results from the blooddraw (she is 30) and was so stressed that she was put on bed rest then and there..two weeks later, everything came back fine! Keep us posted. Thinking of you.

jessiesmama - I'm thinking about you, hoping the best for your family. How stressful.

Standrea - That's GREAT that you felt the baby move! I can't wait for that feeling.

Panic - Count me in on this one. DD sometimes pushes me to my very witt's end. I ended up in tears last night at dinner because she was driving me utterly insane with her behavior. She was acting out and being quite a little brat and I needed a break. She truly knows how to push my buttons and rattle me. It is times like this that I wonder what I've gotten myself into getting pregnant again. :o How am I going to handle two little one's? DD will definitely continue at daycare (half days no doubt, up to whole days) when baby #2 arrives and I'm on maternity leave. I truly enjoyed my maternity leave with DD...the bonding, the napping, the quiet times. That will change just a "little" this time around. A pp mentioned the bewitching hour between 4 and 5PM...oh man! It certainly is!

Yes, this pregancy is flying by, more so than the first for me. I think it's because last time was the first time and everything was SO new and I didn't know what to expect and it seemed like it went very slow. Not this time. I have to keep up with a little person who keeps me on my toes and there's just not as much down time now to think about every little thing in great detail. Not to mean that I'm not super excited about this one because I am, very much so!!!

So I've been stressing to the max lately. We've decided to put our house up for sale in this crappy market. Go ahead and call me crazy. :eek: We're gonna make an attempt and if nothing comes of it then we have one spiffy house that we'll live in till the market picks up. But what we'd really like to do is get out of our house, rent one for a bit, buy the perfect house for us at the bottom of the market and stay in it for awhile. So we've been killing ourselves getting every nook and cranny cleaned, every closet cleaned out and picked up and getting it in "model" shape as much as we can being that we do actually live in it. It's stressful with a little one underfoot knowing that every crumb dropped or mess made has to be picked up immediately. No more drinks or food on the carpet (which is something we've always tried to enforce, but now it's a strict policy). :) Yea, fun stuff like that.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

jessiesmamma - Sorry you are having to go through the stress. I looked back at my numbers from #1 - I was 35 so immediately my risk was 1/200 and with the nuchal it was 1/660. They didn't even mention anything about another blood draw at 15 weeks. I definitely mention it this time.

I forgot who mentioned this...

I'm exhausted, I don't feel very sexy or romantic, and he gets on my nerves more than usual...

Very true for me! DD spent the night with the inlaws Saturday night and DH got lucky twice. And it was only because I actually didn't feel like I was going to puke. And it should keep him from bothering me at least for another week (I hope).

21daisygirl, my aunt tried that ash and mayo potion too and it worked for her too (although she used cigarette ashes. Doesn't smoke but got some ashes from a neighbor).

Handling 2? I was just thinking last night, while at the grocery store, how in the heck I would be able to do that with 2. Hard enough with DD sometimes. Guess I'd just have to start shopping in the evening after bed time.

Nuchal, had that done at lunch time today! Tech said everything looked great! And they had me measuring at exactly 12 weeks today. I don't think it will change my due date though. My OB has me at 12w on Wednesday. Baby's heart rate was at 174 and I finally got to hear it (instead of just seeing it).

I was outed last Friday by a co-worker. We were in a conference room with two other female co-workers. I sat next to her and she immediately noticed I was wearing maternity pants! She asked and although I tried to say no, I just can't lie. So I made them swear not to tell anyone yet. I told them to wait for my email on Wednesday. They're excited though! On that note I think I might tell my boss today. Its weird because she's also one of my girlfriends here at work. I don't usually see her except maybe once a week. So recently we decided that we should schedule a weekly meeting just so we know what each other is doing work-wise. So, I was thinking I might tell her today. Although seeing as she is also a friend in our little group at work, I feel like I should tell them all at once, like I did last time. She may very well cancel our meeting today since she is so insanely busy, and honestly that would work better for me.

I also went shopping yesterday and bought some more maternity clothes. I took out the ones from when I was pregnant with DD and I'm just not excited about them. So I bought a few new pieces to perk up the wardrobe. I'm not wearing any maternity today, but I may wear another pair of m. pants this week. They're just so comfy!

Just checking in to comment on a few things... :)

Testing - My OB didn't even offer the nuchal :confused: so we didn't get one, but I'm not terribly upset about it... Last time we debated a long time over the AFP testing - knowing we wouldn't terminate no matter the results. In the end we went ahead and did the blood test (which came out fine) because my OB said it does more than just check for DS, it actually even gives them a good idea about how well the placenta is functioning. We decided we'd draw the line there though - that between the AFP and the u/s we'd have enough of an idea what our risks were to prepare as necessary. We opted not to do an amnio and won't do it this time either (even though I'm 36 so they'd kinda like me to). It's such a personal decision though.

Handling 2 - Count me in the panicked group! We struggled with DS from 1AM until 4AM last night trying to get him to sleep (he's just the worst sleeper!!) and once he finally drifted off I had a little meltdown. I'm so tired of not getting full nights of sleep and having another baby in the house is just going to drag this non-sleeping phase out even longer. I couldn't help but think we were nuts to have another one when we haven't got the first one "under control" yet. Of course I was dead tired and overly emotional at the time, but it's certainly not the first time I've had thoughts like this...

Flying By? - Yeah, not so much for me. Maybe because I'm anxious to get through this feeling terrible stage and get to the fun stuff? My happy memories of being pregnant are all ones of feeling the baby move and actually looking and feeling pregnant. It seems like it's taking forever to get to that stage! But I'm not the most patient person in the world.

I am sorry I havent been on lately. Theres not much going on with this pregnancy. DD had a double ear infection and we all are still sick. I am so ready for this 'bug' or thing to pass!

Thank you girls who are keeping this thread running for all your hard work!!

My next appt is Nov 21st. They dont do u/s until 18 weeks so I have to wait :( We wont be finding out the sex this time around.

Yay for 2nd trimester! Its definitely the easiest of all trimesters. When I was pg with DD during 2nd trimester, I helped DH built a patio! I had SO much energy!!!

Thanks ladies. I'm going to try not to stress. I mean I'm 34 and the results showed my risk as that of a 27 year old. That's something to hang my hat on.... right?

Oh - and I forgot to mention, the ultrasound portion of the screening looked awesome. The nuchal translucency was 1.1. They said anything under a 3 was good.

I called my OB jsut to discuss results. I'll let you guys know what he says when he calls back (hopefully today).

Andrea- How exciting that you felt the baby! I was talking to a friend about this the other night, and she said too that people tend to feel movement sooner the second time around because they know what the feeling is. I am starting to get excited to feel the baby move, because they say that usually happens between 16 and 20 weeks, and that isn't too far away for me! I hope your move goes smoothly next week. Try to stay sane! And I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you sell your house soon!

Jessiesmama- I'm sorry your results weren't exactly what you'd hope for, but try not to stress about it. I'm sure the baby is going to be absolutely perfect! :)

smilewithme- Good luck selling the house! Seeing that it's close to the holidays and you are farther along than I was when I moved (and will be farther along than Andrea), I'd say that you are officially crazy! I hope you get lucky and it doesn't stay on the market long.

Dettes and E&O- While I'm totally not qualified to answer this from my own experiences, I've heard the same thing Dettes has about 2 under 2. A friend at work just had No. 2, and she has said over and over that it was tougher going from 0 to 1 than from 1 to 2! I hope that's at least a bit comforting!

******
I just realized I used the wrong form of the word "your" in my post about DH talking to the baby. That is hugely embarrassing to me. I need to start rereading posts before I submit them. :o

Flying by? - It's going really fast for me. I too have known since 10 DPO, but we've been so busy that this whole year seems to have flown by. There are days I think, "Wow, I can't believe I'm X weeks already!"

I went to my good friend's baby shower Saturday. She is due Dec. 22, but they're taking the baby at 36 weeks. She is diabetic (not gestational) and she now has high blood pressure and protein in her urine. She was put on bed rest last Tuesday, and she said they'll probably induce the week after Thanksgiving. She is a physician's assistant, so I would imagine she knows very well what her risks are, and she doesn't seem worried in the least. She is pretty excited to have the baby, and in plenty of time before Christmas.

During the shower, my friend's MIL said to me, "Am I looking at a girl (yes, she really called me a "girl" :rolleyes:) who is going to have a baby?" I told her yes, and that I realize I'm at that "Hmmm ... is she pregnant or just fat? stage." She laughed. I have a pretty good sense of humor, so I don't take offense to much. A few others had heard I'm expecting, so I got a lot of congratulatory smiles. On this topic, we were at Target last week, and DH looked at me and said, "You know, I bet people think you just have a beer belly." I jokingly smacked him; he wouldn't have said it if he knew I wouldn't have laughed. Actually, I thought it was pretty funny.

I also got my first unwanted belly touch over the weekend, at a wedding reception Saturday night. Like I've heard, it did bother me a bit, but I brushed it off. I smiled politely and thanked the woman (an acquaintance) for her congratulations. I try not to let things like that bother me, because I know people mean well. While I was at the wedding, I drank three Virgin Marys and lots of water. DH was working OT this weekend so he didn't make it, but I was the sober driver for Mom, Dad, brother and SIL.

I also got a diaper bag over the weekend. I saw it at Wal-Mart and thought it was really cute (and it's lined in plastic), so I was going to get it. But Mom bought it for me instead and added it to the "stash" of stuff she's already purchased. She wouldn't let me go in the closet in my old bedroom because it's full of baby stuff. I've looked a lot of places, and besides the $200 ones I've seen that I will never get, this is my favorite so far:

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k269/lp_becky/0009231703805_215X215.jpg

Who would have guessed I'd find it at Wal-Mart?! I have a feeling I'll want to switch up diaper bags like I do purses, so I'm sure I'll find a few more.

I haven't posted here in a while. DH and I decided pretty early on to do a CVS since I'll be 39 at birth, and I just started expecting the worst and wanted to put it out of my mind as much as I could (and we've only told 2 other people - no family so far). That's going to change today because I got the results from the test and EVERYTHING'S GOOD.

Also, I found out that it's a boy - total shock I was positive it was a girl. I actually started tearing up on the phone and really had to fight to say a meek "thanks" to the woman that was telling me the results.

IrishEyes
11-05-2007, 12:55 PM
ducgal - congrats on the boy and the good CVS result!

jessiesmama - I'm surprised that they phrased it that way - "intermediate risk". Your results show a lower risk than your age-based risk, which is a huge positive in my book! I think your result is exactly what I would want! It sounds like they want to do the second-trimester screening too, which is what's recommended for women 'of our age', so I wouldn't read into that at all.

Becky: I have that same diaper bag! I loved it online, but once I got it I didn't really like it - nothing wrong with the bag itself, I think I just got used to the one I was using, which was open on top, not the messenger style. That bums me out too, b/c I loved the colors and the pattern. I found the one I love and use daily (although I now have 5) on ebay. You could spend an entire day shopping for diaper bags on ebay!

Flying by? Not really, but like a PP, I'm not exactly patient. I'm ready to be obvioulsy pregnant and to start feeling the bug move around! Like Becky said, I'm in that pregnant or put on a few pounds? stage - and I totally agree with the beer belly statement!

Handling 2: I must admit, it makes me feel so much better to hear so many of you other RO's state your aprehensions about another baby...we went out to eat last night and DS was TERRIBLE. I actually said to him, "And I'm doing this again, on purpose?" So many things are going to be so much more difficult, but I think the hardest thing for me is worrying about DS and/or the new baby. Can I possibly love #2 as much? Will I love #1 less? Will #1 still get enough attention? I know the answers are yes, no, and yes, but I still find myself worrying about them. That, and will there be a time again when I'm not so freaking tired?

Two whoever posted about the ash and mayo elixer - I'm going to try that too! I transfered an iron-on to a T-shirt for a school project on my new DR table. I used a towel, but the iron was still too hot and there is a nice spot on the table now. I tried straight mayo, but it didn't work. I didn't know to put ashes with it. Thanks for the tip!

Mickey&B- Welcome! H&H 9 months!

ducgal- Congrats on the thread's first boy!

2 under 2 - You know, I think the moment that we found out we were pregnant, my daughter started acting up! :rolleyes: Of course, she also learned to walk around the same time, so it's more about mobility and independence and wanting what she cant have than about this pregnancy that she's too young to understand! My Mom (who at one time had three kids under 4, a 7 yr old and adopted two boys ages 7 & 8) says that having kids close together is really beneficial in the long run. In the short term, it's very hard, but you find a way to deal. She also agrees that going from 0 to 1 is tougher than 1 to 2. Of course, she also says that your first and second child are complete opposites and since my DD was a VERY demanding child (and still is), #2 better be an angel! LOL.

Of course, she also says that your first and second child are complete opposites and since my DD was a VERY demanding child (and still is), #2 better be an angel! LOL.

Ahhh, see that is what I am afraid of. Our DD was an incredibly easy baby. Slept well, ate well, was very adaptable. She made being first time parents so incredibly easy, I was wondering what all the fuss was about. But I have said from the very beginning that she lulled us into a false sense of confidence and that with #2 all hell is going to break loose.

Not a whole lot new with me... things continue to move along. I'm hanging on desperately to the 3 pair of regular pants that I can still wear to work. tried on a pair of my old maternity pants this weekend (with a low waist band, no panel) and they would certainly look alright but I'm going to be stubborn and hold out. Hopefully no one notices I am wearing the same 3 pair of pants week in and week out. Even if they do, I guess the know my excuse.

I am going to be starting the weekly progesterne shots the week of Thanksgiving. The medicine is supposed to arrive to me tomorrow and then I can call and get a first appt set up.

Hey gals, I haven't posted in a while either. There's really nothing exciting going on with me. Except that my choices of dress pants are getting less and less by the week. I have 3 pairs of pants for work-ah!! A pair of khakis that are borderline high water/flood pants, a pair of gray slacks, and black palazzo style pants. On Fridays though we can wear jeans-but those are getting snug and are almost uncomfortable.

Welcome Mickey glad you've joined us!

i need to find something to wear for christmas!
Standrea-thanks for reminding ME of that too! We're going to set up some family Christmas pics for the beg. of December and I need something for then.

Are you guys excited about being pg during Christmas?? I know it's a stressful time, but so many family members that I never see, I'll get to see then and I'll get lots of attention. :) I love attention. I really look forward to it! LOL

Handling 2 yeah i'm kinda nervous about it. but DH is such a good dad/husband and a helper with anything. it's great! so i'm not too worried, just being up at night-all night maybe-dealing with a newborn and then keeping up with a 2.5 yr old during the day. pheeww-it's kind of exhausting just thinking about it.

Pregnant during Christmas - Not really excited about it. Though I expect I will feel better by then (I better!) Last time we told our families on Christmas, - this time we hope to tell them the sex. But mainly I am not excited because I love to drink during the holidays, so not being able to have much (I say that because there is NO way I can go through Xmas dinner with NO wine) kind of sucks. But I am excited to be with DD this Christmas.

Can it hurry up and be Friday? I can't wait to see the baby again. And start wearing maternity pants. I am down to 2-3 pairs of pants for M-Th (though one pair really makes me look pregnant) and my jeans for Friday aren't that comfy. Though I hate my maternity jeans as well.

well crap, Jessey! how could i forget about not being able to drink? LOL-i totally see your point. DH's family is strictly against alcohol, so I don't have to worry about that. But my fam is okay with it, it's just usually not served. New Year's is gonna suck w/out alcohol. I know that it's hard to deal with family w/out drinking sometimes. thanks-now i'm kinda bummed. ;)

Pregnant during Christmas, I'm excited. I will be exactly as far along as I was with DD. We did receive a few baby gifts from family then, and DH made sure that the baby bought us gifts (I got a new frying pan from then unborn DD, lol). Oh and Santa brought stuff for the baby too. It was fun!

I have a holiday party for work coming up. Its not formal, but definitely a cocktail attire party. 2 years ago when I was 16 weeks along with DD I just wore an empire waist halter top dress. I don't want to wear that dress to the same party again though. I tried on a dress at motherhood (fushia strapless dress) but I won't fill out the belly yet and I decided it would just be too much fabric hanging on me. So I'm going to look for another empire waist dress to wear this year.

An old co-worker stopped by my office to visit this morning. She left the company about a year ago when she got married and relocated to Denver. She's in town for a wedding. Anyway, she's pregnant too, due in May and only a week ahead of me. So I told her my news too (although she may have been able to tell). I'm so excited she's expecting too. I still plan on announcing my pregnancy to work tomorrow afternoon.

Congrats on the good CVS test Ducgal! And congrats for a boy!

well crap, Jessey! how could i forget about not being able to drink? LOL-i totally see your point. DH's family is strictly against alcohol, so I don't have to worry about that. But my fam is okay with it, it's just usually not served. New Year's is gonna suck w/out alcohol. I know that it's hard to deal with family w/out drinking sometimes. thanks-now i'm kinda bummed. ;)

Holidays without alcohol is a sin in our family! I can't believe that my FIL and S-MIL won't drink during Thanksgiving because her 85 year old mother is against it. And they love their wine! Needless to say we don't go there much for Thanksgiving.
Last time around I got my BFP on Thanksgiving Eve - after a few glasses of wine :) I didn't do it in the morning because I didn't want a BFN to ruin my holiday. And I told my parents on Xmas Eve - It was a good 2 hours before I got to tell them (we had kids books about grandparents for them to open) and I had to avoid drinking until them. Though I had one glass at dinner.

------------------------------

I just had lunch with a bunch of co-workers, one who just got back from a long vacation, plus we don't work on the same team anymore. He immediately asked me if one of our client's was pregnant, and another, and another. Then announced his SIL is pregnant again. I sware he was just waiting for me to tell him something. Come on people. Let me get to Friday! I want to tell you, I really do!

I can't believe there is a going to be a July 2008 Mommies group soon. I am 1 week away from my concention-anniversary with DD, so all this talk of the holidays gets me naustalgic.

Welcome Mickey&B!!! Weren't we in some TTC group together? I must have missed that you got your BFP!

So now Gap has me more irritated. I called this morning to try to do the price adjustment thing like a few of you said, but their system was down, and the woman told me to call back later, that they could cancel yesterday’s order and make a new order today so I could get the free shipping and 10 percent off. So I just called back, and they won’t do it. The guy said the order went through yesterday and yadda yadda. He kept saying “This promotion is for one day only.” I realize that, but I said, “If it were an in-store promotion for one day, I would be able to return the item to that store for a price adjustment.” He didn’t have much of a response to that. He said he could put out an alert, which would try to stop the order, but it’s not 100 percent. So by the time I would find out if the order was canceled, I would miss today’s promotion anyway. He told me I could take a chance on the alert and also order the same thing again now, but it would be possible I’d get both orders. Then I could return one to the store – but I’m pretty sure doing that doesn’t refund the shipping charge! I told the guy it was fine and that I’d keep the order the way it is. That is totally not worth the $12 I would save by getting free shipping and 10 percent off. Uggh! The damn pants better fit!

PG during Christmas- I'm actually looking forward to it, because I think I'll be very obviously PG by then, and I intend to look cute! I don't usually need alcohol to get me through a holiday with family, so that's not an issue; I just like to drink, and I'm sure I'll miss it! Every get together with my family or friends includes alcohol. But if I can make it through a year of tailgating at Packer games, weekends at the lake, building a house and five weddings without drinking, I'm sure I can do the holidays.

Mickey with DS I was due 6/11 and ended up having him 7 days late. This time I didn't know if I should join the May thread or the June thread since I feel I will probably be late again but I was falling so behind on both while trying to decided that I just threw myself in here.:rolleyes:

Flying by?? Not so much for me, I have been feeling miserable and have been pretty impatient to reach the 2nd trimester in hopes that it will all go away and I will be happy again.

Having 2 DS is older so I'm hoping that will really be an advantage. Since DS will be in school 5 half days next September I will have a few hours of alone time to bond with the baby of course it also means I will have to pack the baby up to drop DS at school and then again to pick DS up from school but you do what you gotta do. I still worry, when DS is acting up it's hard not to worry.

I have been feeling slightly better for the last few days, at my u/s appoinment Friday I lost 3 lbs. I have my first appointment with my regular OB tomorrow at 1:45, I will be 11 weeks tomorrow. I will post my next appointment in red once I am back tomorrow. I gotta eat, feeling nautious right now.......

PG for the holidays. We do channukah w/ my family and DH's family does Christmas. We are Jewish, DH converted before we got married and are raising our family Jewish. I DOOOOO need booze to get me through the holidays, particularly X-mas eve w/ FIL and bitch Stepmother in law (who spread the news about the pregnancy where i m/c after i specifically told her not to, twice). anyway, She was the last to find out about this preegnancy. Not sure how i am going to get through that night. Generally i like to keep a light buzz going..at least i'll find some fun clothes and look good and i intend to be very introverted that night..like speak when spoken to. i'm a bitch.

Someone mentioned weight: according to my last visit last week, i'm up 9 pounds!! OB said its perfect, i freaked out and DH told me to keep eating. I guess i'm so used to eating artificial diet things and i don't do that when i'm preggers but still. I only gained 30 last time and intend to keep it similiar this time!

Hi, ladies!

Standrea- man! I am so jealous you felt the baby. I'm "patiently" waiting....argh.

ducgal- congrats on the boy! Were you teared up because you were happy or shocked?

jessiesmama- try not to stress. The odds are highly in your favor that all is well.

Mickey- welcome! I am actually due Apr. 29 (ob has May 1) but I would rather be in the group with people who are closer to my due date.

Having 2- I think that my hormones raging & severe m/s during the 1st tri amplified every negative thing DD did. I lost my patience with her a lot! I have noticed I'm much more blase about everything now. Also, she is maturing and I think by the time #2 comes she'll be a good 2 yr. 5 mo. old. However, DD was an extremely colicky, difficult baby (easy nurser tho, but I had those puppies out 24/7) so I'm due for a good one!! I DID MY TIME.

diaper bags- I have the Fleurville Pink/Green stripe Sling Tote. I LOVE it. I use the larger, one piece over the shoulder strap and tuck the other 2 straps in the side pockets. It is high quality, roomy and I am not sick of it at all. I can't say as much for my repeat maternity clothes...
================================================== =======
Nothing new here. Feeling a tad better each day but still not myself at all. I have high energy and then I pay for it later with back aches and fatigue.

Here is my DD in her bee outfit:

I've been feeling baby moving for a week or so. I feel it mostly at night when I go to bed. It's generally a subtle feeling, but I've gotten a couple of hard kicks too.

The thought of having 2 is really freaking me out. I had a total freak out a couple of weeks ago. Spending time with my SIL and her newborn really had me questioning why we're doing this again. I'm mostly just afraid that I won't be able to have that dreamy newborn time, where time is meaningless, because there's going to be a 2 year old jumping on me. I can't wait until DS starts preschool this January. I'm looking forward to having a couple mornings a week to myself for errands and appointments and sleeping.

I DID MY TIME.

Ditto!!! Lol.

Baby movements- Not yet. I've felt a couple bubbles, but I'm thinking it's gas. :p

diaper bags-I currently have one from Pottery Barn Kids that is neutral so my DH uses it too. I'm definitely getting a new one for myself this time. A friend has a Petunia Picklebottom in the hobo style and loves it. I havent decided if I love that style or not, so I'm going to keep looking.

I had a doctor appt yesterday. Everything went well. To date, I'm up about 6 lbs, I think. I'm not sure what my starting weight was on their scale. Honestly, I'm just not as obsessed this time around about my weight as I was last time. I guess since I put on 48 lbs and lost it once, I cant do it again!

The nurse found the baby's heartbeat almost immediately. She said how she was going to have to go low on my belly to hear it, so I think she was surprised that it was higher on my belly than she expected and had to move the wand up. The hb was 160, which is right near the 157 from our last appt. Isnt that girl range according to the old wives' tale? LOL.

When the doctor came in, he measured me, but since we were too busy talking about the belly band that I had on and how his wife is using it after she just had a baby, that I forgot to ask what the measurement was! I dont remember them measuring the length of my uterus this early when I was pregnant w/ DD. Oh well, I'm sure there's a lot of things that I forgot!

Diaper Bags- I bought the Coach white one over the summer with the multi colored C's on it. Noway I was getting DH to carry that thing. Thankfully, My sister bought him a man bag from Lands End for my shower for DD, so he uses that. I am looking forward to getting a different bag though, the white one isn't going to cut it for the winter, and I have just been using my largest purse with a few diapers, wipes, a sippy cup, and snacks. I definately need something more substantial though, especially with Potty training on the horizon.

2-I have been avoiding this question. I am undoubtly worried. DD is very independant, so I think she'll be ok, but I'm more worried about my own sanity, and having enough time for each of the kids to give them individual attention. I'm also worried that I will not be as successful breastfeeding the new baby as I was for DD. AND, DD was a fairly easy baby, so I'm due for a harder one I think. I like my sleep, and DD slept through the night pretty early on. I have a feelign this is going to be a thing from the past for me.

Thanks Becky for the GAP code. I went shopping online yesterday and got myself a maternity shirt and two shirts for DD and it was next to nothing because everything was on sale, plus the code! Good deal!

Diaper bag - I didn't even buy one last time. Well, I registered for one, got it at the shower, and hated it when I went for a trial run with it. I ended up using the FREE Enfamil one that came from the hospital! This time I want a cute bag and DH can use the free one.

ducgal - Congrats on a little BOY!

Welcome Mickey&B!

GlamaGal - Your daughter is adorable!

I thought I felt movement last night so I paused to see if I could feel it again and nothing, of course! It wasn't obvious enough to be certain so I'm still standing by for that first movement.

Diaper Bag - We used a back-pack type diaper bag for the first 6-9 months, which was great since DH could carry it. Now I use a Oui Oui messenger bag.

Movement - I sware I felt something last night but I know it was too soon. Probably just gas.

Last time around my breasts didn't grow at all - nadda, nothing. Now at 12w they seem to weigh about 20 lbs each. It isn't something I am used to. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next 28 weeks - I really don't want to end up huge!

Diaper Bags I have 3, 4 if you include DH's :rolleyes: I have a petunia picklebottom which I LOVE, the Fluerville mother ship for longer trips and one I got in a boutique I think it called Posh Baby. I got DH the skip hop in black for him for father's day when we were preggo with DS. So needless to say I don't need another one, but I did buy a petunia for my SIL and I love the new patterns trying real hard not to cave!

Feeling the baby I get a lot of bubbles at night, but I am sure they are gas :o

Hope your all doing well!

Hi ladies -
Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well.
I'm good. The nausea is pretty much gone, the exhaustion is still lingering a little bit, but it's manageable (sometimes :p).

Had our Nuchal trans u/s today. It was so freaking cool. I have to say what a difference a month makes. It was so great to see the little guy waving his arms around and trying to kick mommy ;)

The U/S results from the test look good, but won't have the official numbers until the bloodwork comes back.

We have our next appt on 12/2/08 and our big ultrasound scheduled for 1/4/08 I can't believe I have to wait until after the holidays to find out the sex... but ah well.

Only 2 more weeks until we leave for vacation. Going to Hawaii for Thanksgiving and I can't wait!!

Here's a little pic of our little skeletor ;)- You can put this on the front pgs if you want

Firstly, thankyou all for your well wishes with my combined Bronchitis/ morning sickness.

Welcome Mickey&B hope all goes well for you, and glad to have you in our group!

Glamagal your DD is sooo cute in her Bee outfit. I wish DS would wear costumes. Thankfully, in a way, Halloween isn't really a big deal in Australia so I didn't have to wrestle him into a costume for the night!

morning sickness I've been feeling normal since Sunday, except that DS got another ear infection and kept me up for 3 nights:( I am hopeful that it is at the end for me...Last time it was at 14 weeks, so I'm not too far off it. I've also felt that my energy levels are starting to go back to normal - I don't need to sleep during the day anymore, and feel like cooking again, doing laundry and all the other things that Ive just had no energy for in the last 2 months. I hope that all of the others suffering have a reprive soon too.

Diaper Bag I have an Oi Oi hobo style, which has a broken zip because I stuffed to much stuff into it. I think I'll have to get a bigger one with the baby, although I am hopeful that I will have DS potty trained by the arrival of the baby. We've had some signs that he's starting to get interested in it, so I think I'll wait a few more months and then try in Jan/ Feb with him. Unfortunately I have now reached a point that whenever I take DS out I have to take a change of clothes (just like when he was a n/b) as he tends to sit in a puddle, roll in mud, etc:rolleyes:

I have my first Ultrasound next Monday 12th November so I am looking forward to getting the all clear to tell everyone. I have a huge tummy already, and I know most people who see me are extremely suspicious, especially as I've flaked so much lately with the morning sickness.

Question for 2nd time mothers what major items are you intending to buy with the new baby?

I think I'll be getting a new double Mac lightweight stroller (for travel), a skateboard for the existing Bugaboo and a new booster for DS so the baby can get the reversible carseat that we already have. Also a new diaper bag. Apart from that I can't think of anything else I'll need.

Finally, Goodluck with the move Standrea:)

ETA: Congrats on the u/s CT's Pumpkin and I hope the results are good!

I broke down and wore maternity pants today. I forgot to wash one of the 2 pairs of regular pants I feel comfortable in. Plus I ate a bit too much for dinner and forgot to take my Metamucil, so I am feeling and looking 5 months pregnant :rolleyes: I had to wear a long shirt too. If all looks well tomorrow I'll tell people.

ROs - Items to buy for #2 - Besides a double stroller (which I haven't really begun to think about), we are going to get a Papasan swing. People swore by it last time, but by the time I really had heard about it it was time to go back to work so I nixed the idea. But I really want one. Everything else we have....but we need invest in a bed for DD and shelving/baskets/etc for the rest of her closet to make room for both her's and the baby's clothing. Even if #2 is a boy, he won't be getting a whole new crib bedding set (okay, maybe a bumper) as we didn't really use the one we have for DD. Sheets and a bumper is all we needed.

Mrs.Chappy

Items to buy for #2: haven't thought too much but i'm definately getting a video baby monitor. Not getting a double stroller b/c we hardly use ours now as it is, DS will be almost 3 when the baby comes. I am treating myself to a Vera Bradly diaper bag. We got Ben a bedrooms set last week (full size bed, dresser and night table) which will be delivered between Xmas and New Years. And i'm sure i'll need a bumbo as all my friends swear by it, despite the recall!

Had my OB appointment yesterday and all was well. Took a while for the nurse to find the HB, but she was able to for about 5 secs. I think it was about 166 (it was 174 on Monday). Baby moving around quite a bit yesterday (and Monday during the sonogram).

Feeling nauseous this morning. But feeling better overall. Haven't had to vomit in about a week. I think I'm only up 1 lb so far this pregnancy. I'll have to go back and read my notes from last time to see how much I had gained already. I think it was at least 5 lbs.

I told work yesterday, and a few already suspected it. So, its out now.

I'm wearing a maternity skirt today. Its big but not constricting so it feels pretty good.

ROs - Items to buy for #2 I have no idea. Like Mrs.Chappy, I don't have any intentions on getting a double stroller as we hardly use either of DD's. Although I may reconsider that once the baby is here and I am out and about with both kids. DD already has a twin bed in her room so we don't need to worry about that. We've got tons of gender neutral clothes from before, so the kid is set for at least 2-3 months (if its a boy. Otherwise we have all of DD's clothes). We will have to buy thousands of diapers and wipes!

Diaper Bags I have a ton of diaper bags! Well, I have a ton of bags that I use as diaper bags. I love to change them out with the season or my mood, so it doesn't matter how many I acquire.

I have an awesome co-worker. She has 3 year old twin daughters and this week she has been loading me up with clothes, coats, and shoes for DD. It's like Christmas came early. The cool part is that I either get two of everything, or usually the same item in different colors. I don't think I'll need to buy DD much of anything in the next few years!

threadmistresses, please update my profile as the gender will be a surprise. And my next appt. is Dec. 5th.

Buying for #2: I actually feel like we need a lot. We need a bassinet for our bedroom (with #1 we borrowed a bassinet), new crib and dresser for nursey (DD will take her convetible crib and dresser into her new room), double stoller (yuck, these are so big and clunky), all new clothes depending on the gender, and then little things like all new bibs (because DDs are a mess!) and all new bottle nipples (because our dogs hunt these out and chew them up).

I better start making an official list.

Standrea

Buying for #2: We will definately be getting a double stroller, but I think that's about it. We still have everything from DD, because i knew that we'd have kids kinda close together, so I didn't want to get rid of anything. If we have a girl, we really won't need much clothes, but if it's a boy I'll need a bunch of stuff. Abbie will probably get her big girl bed around New Year sometime, so the crib and dresser will go into the new baby's room. OH! And I think I want to do a different theme for the new baby, so we will have to get new bedding.

Buying for #2 we did not get a changing table with DD and just used a portably pad on the floor. I want to get a changing table this time around.

I am treating myself to a Vera Bradly diaper bag. yep, i want me one of those too! don't know if it'll happen but I REALLY want one. Mrs. Chappy, do you know what print you want to get? I want the red print-don't know the name of it. With DD we didn't know her gender so we have a lot of neutral clothes which we'll use a lot of. DD is a Dec. baby though so we will have to buy season-appropriate clothing!

Standrea How exciting! Don't work too hard

Buying things for #2 Honestly I haven't thought a whole lot about it. I know we are going to need new nursery furniture. When we did DS room we did in a way that it would work for a big boy so that's staying the same. I need to buy a swing we borrowed with DS and Depending on if it's a girl we will need to buy all new clothes. I saved a lot since we knew we would be having another one relatively soon.

Standrea: Good luck with the move!

Buying for #2: If we don't buy a new bed for DS, we will need a crib, and if it's a girl, we'll need new clothes. If it's a boy, we're golden. This baby is due practically on DS's bday, so we're set for a May boy. Since we knew we were having a boy, we didn't buy any gender-neutral clothes. That may come back to haunt us if I've got a little girl baking in there. We saved everything else and had everything we needed, so I don't think we will need much - which is a good thing, considering no showers this time around :(

I have to ask: Please tell me how you ladies justify spending so much money on a diaper bag?! I don't mean to be snarky at all, but I've seen a ton of really expensive ones I would love to have, but I just can't justify spending that much on a diaper bag. So many of you have said you own or plan to buy designer bags. I know our money can be better spent elsewhere! :)

eta: Maybe I'm looking for reasons so I can justify it. Come on, give me some good ones!

We didn't get much gender neutral stuff either, though I do have all my BFF's hand-me downs for her December boy and September girl, so I can scrounge stuff up. DH and I have asked our families for BRU and Carter's outlet gc's for Xmas (I suspect I will have my u/s the week of Dec 17 so not enough time for our families to buy gender specific gifts)

We booked a Baby Moon of sorts for early February. We are flying to FL to stay with friends - DD will be with us, but it will be nice to get away to somewhere warm...and a good excuse to break out the spring/summer maternity wear. May in New England can still be pretty cool, so there are some things I won't be able to wear up here :( (Why am I frowning? I am glad not to be pregnant during the summer again!)

Diaper Bag - I really can't justify it :) And I don't love it either. I am not a purse person at all. Normall I throw my driver's license and ATM card in my back pocket. I do have a Coach Bag and wallet (a back-to-work present to myself) but they hide in my work bag. I felt much more comfortable with my back pack diaper bag. But I really wanted something that made me feel like a woman, not a mom and not the tomboy I am, so I splurged.

I justify spending mucho $$ on the diaper bag b/c after suffering a m/c in April i feel like i'm entitled to whatever i want within reason. My DH does not question these things. We find comfort through spending ;). On those lines, i love love love the maternity clothes i bought through Ann Taylor Loft. clearly i'll be putting ATL gift cards on my holiday list for family to buy me.

ROs - Items to buy for #2- We're definitely getting a double stroller. I already know which one I want. We need an infant car seat, since we had borrowed the one DS used. If it's a girl then we'll need a few clothes, but almost all of what I bought for DS was as gender neutral as possible. I've got no problem putting a blue dog sleeper on a little girl. I might also get another monitor, as I always regretted not getting the video monitor. I'm also going to get the graco swing that you can pop a car seat into. I actually had this idea before they came out, and am so glad I can buy one this time around.

Diaper bags- I've been using my one and only kecci bag, $35, for almost 2 years now. I think about getting a fluerville, as they look great and seem to have a lot of nice functionality, but I can't bring myself to spend that much on a diaper bag. It's funny, I'll go out to eat and not think twice. I buy nice, though on sale clothes for DS. I buy nice clothes for myself, but a diaper bag, no way.

video monitors - I see that many of you are saying you'll get one next time around. I'll say that it is the best $100 we spent on DD. It's going to be a little sad when we move her out of her crib and we can't watch her sleep anymore.

RO - What to buy for #2? I really want to buy a double stroller although DH does see why we should. He just wants two single strollers which does not make sense to me if ONE of us has both of the kids out and about. I can see using it in so many situations. We'll buy a new crib, dresser, etc. for the baby. DD's crib converts to a full bed so she'll be keeping all of her furniture. We've got the monitor, the pack and play, the swing, all of the major items like that and they are not all pink and frilly just in case this happens to be a boy.

I don't have one piece of clothing that is gender neutral, so if it's a boy then we'll be out shopping for a whole wardrobe.

What to buy for #2: We will definitely be getting a double stroller and if this one is a girl, we have to buy a new infant carrier and a ton of girl clothes and accessories. But it #2 is a boy, we will reuse most of DS's stuff. I am really hoping for a girl, but it would be way cheaper to have a boy!!

Speaking of that, I totally had a dream that we had a boy and named him Nathan (DS's middle name is Nathaniel, so that would never happen). It was quite strange! Has anyone else been having dreams? I told DH about the dream and he said "It's not going to be a boy." I keep telling him to get that out of his head, because it very well could be and I don't want him to be "disappointed". :rolleyes:

Has anyone else been having dreams? Oh Gosh yes! Really crazy ones:p

Diaper Bag I had an emergency c-section and it was hard on me emotionally to recover from that. I felt totally frumpy and cried everytime I had to get dressed, I figured I deserved to have something pretty to make me feel pretty. Superficial maybe but whatever. I gave my body up for 10 months I should be able to reward myself a little. The way I see it I have had them for over 2 yrs they have more than payed for themselves. (I did buy one of them on ebay and got a total deal :D)

What to buy for #2: I don't plan on buying a double since DS will be a few weeks shy of 4 y.o. when #2 arrives but I do plan to get another single. We had the Graco travel system which I quickly grew tired of so when DS was 7 months old we purchased a Maclaren Techno which I love. I don't consider the Techno to be a great infant stroller so our top contender for #2 is a Peg P3. We also will need another high chair since we stored ours in the shed when it was first installed and it got ruined when water got inside and we didn't notice right away. Of course we will need new bedding, a new diaper bag, and a sling or two but other than that we are set except for clothes (if it's a girl).

Diaper Bags I'm not spending much more than I would on a purse and I will easily be using it on and off for at least 2 years so IMO it's worth it to have something that makes me feel stylish. :)

I threw up this morning, the first time it was more than dry heaves. My appointment went well yesterday, we had a sono and the baby was moving around like crazy.I have the Nuchal Fold thingy Nov. 20th and my Next OB appt. Dec. 5

OctoberPrincess I love my P3 have you seen the Centro model, I really liked that it had a bigger basket and it doesn't seem to have that big of a price difference. Oh and I just checked out thier site and they have a new model the "skate" it looks a lot like the buggaboo, I am definetly checking that one out. That is if DH agrees to a new stroller :D

buying for #2- We got a free Graco Duo glider double stroller, but I still might get a lightweight one also. I need to get the infant attachment for the Duo Glider, as the person who gave it to me couldnt find it. I also want to get a swing this time, like a pp said. We need to get a twin bed for DD so that we can put the new baby in the crib, but we are using the same bedding since we got gender neutral. Finally, if it's a boy, we'll need clothes! I almost forgot!! I want a new sling. I have a Kozy Carrier, but want one that is more like a hotsling.

diaper bag- count me in the "I want another one" club. I havent done much research yet but I dont want to spend a fortune. However, I know my work will probably give me a shower (even though it's #2) and they have a history of getting Petunia Picklebottom diaper bags for the mom to be.

MrsChappy- I LOVE my bumbo. It was great. The recall was b/c parents were putting their kids in the bumbo on high counters, etc. I think it's totally safe if you put your kid in it on the floor, etc. Also, once my DD started moving around in it and trying to get out, I stopped using it.

Dreams: Mine aren't baby related, but last night I had some very vivid, terrifying dreams. I as a kid again, and someone was physically abusing me. I think the guy was my dad, but he was Hulk Hogan-esque. Freaky. One of my older half sisters was also beating me. I've also had this reoccurring dream that when I unload the dishwasher, all of our white ceramic bowls are covered in dried on tomato juice. (Maybe this has something to do with my fascination with virgin Marys – see below – and anything with a tomato-based sauce.) Now every time I open the dishwasher after a wash, I expect the dishes to be filthy. But even though I've been having more dreams, I've been sleeping better for the past three weeks than I ever have. And I didn't even wake up to pee last night! (Oh yeah, I wasn't abused as a child or anything, so I'm not sure what that dream was all about!)

Thanks for the diaper bag justifications! Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a trendy designer one, but I know DH would kill me. Then again, he never pays attention to the bills, so he'd probably never know how much I spent! ;) But I'm not the type to spend that much money on a purse either (usually about $30-40 max), so it's so hard for me to do it. Maybe I can find one on eBay. And seeing how we just built a house and bought a car, I should probably save the money for other stuff I really need.

How have the rest of you been sleeping? I usually take at least an hour to fall asleep and then I wake up about five or six times during the night, but since we moved into the new house – and since I entered the second trimester – I've been sleeping great! I fall asleep fast, and I stay asleep. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my Back 'n Belly pillow. It is the best invention ever!

That said, I'm so tired this morning. I did not want to get out of bed. Tonight we are meeting for dinner the couple who bought our house (they're about our age and new to the area, so we've kind of become friends. We sold FSBO, so we actually got to know them). I am so getting a virgin Mary – I've been drinking a lot of those lately! I figure the vegetable servings are good for the baby and me! ;) One bartender at the place we're going makes the best bloodys, so I'm really excited.

My belly has been itching a lot, so I've been slathering it with body cream after my shower and before bed (my boobs too). I realized that it's probably from the skin stretching, and I thought softening it up a bit would help ward off stretch marks! ;) I developed stretch marks on my thighs in my early teens when I grew to 6 feet tall, so I don't know of that means I'm more susceptible to them or what.

sleeping..well, some nights are better than others. Early on, i was waking at 2:15 (going to bed at 10) and i'd be up for the day..it was horrible, esp if it was a work day. Lately i've been sleeping better, waking up once to pee and tossing and turning for an hour or just falling right back to sleep. it sucks when i get up to pee at 5 and know i have to be up at 6:30..then its hopeless.

This week was a mess b/c DH was away in orlando allweek for business and DS was giving me a hard time w/ attitude! He flies in at 5 pm and we are going away for the weekend and i need the rest! My parents are coming which will help w/ someone to entertain DS. Enjoy your weekends!

Mickey Thanks, I have heard lots of good things about the P3 and a friend of mine loves hers. It's also nice that it has the rear step just in case DS wants a quick ride (though I doubt he'd regulary use it). I believe the Centro is replacing the Venezia and it's supposed to be similar but I really don't want to go that heavy, I will look into it again though. Coming from a Mach anything has a bigger basket though..LOL. As far as the Skate goes, besides that fact that it looks cool, I've never been into the Bugaboo...just doesn't look very comfortable once the child reaches 2+ and I rather not deal with 2 pieces. I heard the price for the Skate will be more than the Baguaboo and it's heavier than the Bug too.

Slings I have an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder that I purchased for DS when he was an infant, I made the mistake of ordering it in black with padding for my June baby and it was terribly hot to wear! I would like something in a nice light fabric this time and I'm thinking a pouch might be better for those first couple of months.

Dreams I've had one that I had a girl and named her Isabelle Taylor which I've never even thought about, she weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz. I've also had a few wierd ones involving ex boyfriends for some reason.:eek:

Sleep I have not been sleeping well. I get in bed by 9pm but usually don't fall asleep till around 10. Then I'm up a million times to pee or change positions. I usually fall asleep for good around 4am and am awake by 7:30 for the day. It's very frustrating because I remember waking only 1x/night with DS.

I have been feeling better with the indegestion/pains I had been getting for the last month but it's not completely gone. My ob wants me to get a gallbladder sono because he said it sounds like it could be my gallbladder. I am hesitant because it involved me not eating for awhile and at this point if I hold off on meals I will be sick so I think I will wait a couple of weeks (as long as I'm feeling pretty good) to see if this nausia goes away before sceduling the appoinment.

I can justify the diaper bag purchase-

It's like my purse. I don't use a purse anymore since I have so much crap to carry. And, i had a Graco bag that matched my travel system, and it was trashed and ripped and just no good after about a month.
The Vera bag is something I'm thinking about asking for for christmas, or a Petuna Picklebottom one. I like the Verya one though, because it looks like it can be washed realy easily.

Thanks for the well wishes ladies. The whole story is in my journal if anyone is interested, there were some raelly stressful parts, and some really cute parts. We are so happy that it's done now though.

Dreams-I have been having dreams of people dying. It's awful.

I heard the price for the Skate will be more than the Baguaboo and it's heavier than the Bug too.

:eek: Umm won't be getting that one, and your probably right about the 2 pieces. The P3 is the perfect weight, it's not that the basket is too small it's that you can't get anything in it because their is a criss cross of plastic over it totally stupid, it's the only thing I don't like about it.

I've also had a few wierd ones involving ex boyfriends for some reason.

LOL! Me too what's that all about?
Other than that I've been sleeping okay, now if I could get AJ to sleep better again life would be okay :rolleyes:

Slings I bought 2 while we were TTC :o I bought them both on the LJ trading post board- great deals!

Buying for #2 - we won't be getting a double stroller, since DS prefers to walk and is good at holding hands when we're out. We've got everything else (though it's all blue) and even nursery furniture, since DS moved to a bed at 18 months and he has my childhood furniture. The only thing we'll need is new clothes, perhaps, and any new accessories we want. Maybe a new sling, since we used the Bjorn so often.

Sleep - I've been feeling more tired the last 2-3 weeks than I did earlier in the pregnancy. I've been sleeping straight through 8 hours, too. I've been up a time or two to go to the bathroom, but otherwise it's been great. Still sleeping on my tummy, not looking forward to having to sleep on my sides.

Diaper bag - we got 2 when we were pregnant with DS; a plain Eddie Bauer one that we registered for and a Vera Bradley. The Vera wasn't used, because DH packed the Eddie Bauer bag and we just always used that one. So the nice thing is I have a Vera waiting for use with this baby, though it doesn't have an outside bottle pocket like the Eddie Bauer that I used all the time. The only thing you gals should think of is will you just buy/use one? Then, make sure your DH will be OK carrying it (DH said no to anything with a kiddie pattern for that reason). Or perhaps you can get a manly one for him and a girlie one for you. I know my friend wants to buy her husband this one (http://diaperdude.com/product_info.php?cPath=0_21&products_id=37), which is cute.

Dreams - I've definitely had some vivid ones, but usually not about a baby. Lately they've been about work!

I hate to be the downer on the list...

Can you remove me from the list?

We had the nuchal test today and the results (the u/s) were not favorable at all. We are scheduled to have a CVS test on Tuesday. If a miracle happens, I will re-join the list, but for now I am mentally and physically preparing myself for the worst. The good news is that the issues they think there could be, would not put me at a higher risk in the future.

We are completely devasted - you think things are routine when you have a healthy child at home and you get caught completely off guard. But I can't wait for my DD to get home so I can give her a big hug.

Okay I haven't been here in ages and you girls talk a lot ( ;) )

First off:

jesseybell, I am so sorry. Will be praying for you and your family and I hope you'll be re-joining us.

Welcome Mickey&B!

ducgal - Congrats on a little BOY!

GlamaGal- Your little bee is such a cutie!

Baby movements - I don't know...I think so but I am not sure if it is movement or something else???

diaper bags - I haven't got one yet, actually the only thing baby has so far is a pack of diapers! We really will have a lot of shopping to do when we find out what sex this baby is. I am going to try hold out for after Christmas specials

weight - I have only put on 2 kgs so 4 pounds so far. I am ok with that I guess.

baby heartbeat - well that was 160. What does the old wives tale say about that? Boy or girl?

morning sickness - I've been feeling normalish. I found the trigger that would make me queasy (our work canteen) so have been avoiding it. I have a little more energy but still need tons of sleep!!

Dreams - oh my! Definitely! I dream of work mostly, but sometimes of other people in my life or sometimes of people I make up. No baby dreams yet though.

Sleeping - I sleep fine. I do wake up a couple of times during the night, not sure why but then I fall a sleep right away. I go to sleep at 9 and still feel really tired when I get up at 7 in the morning!!

Ichy skin - Yes, mostly on my legs though. I am bathing in bio oil but I must start putting lotion on more often! Becky, I also got stretch marks on my legs so I hope that doesn't mean I am susceptible to them!!!

Becky and tashaw I got stretch marks as a teen too, when I was preggo with DS I slathered on the Keihl's Moisturizing lotion I read somewhere that that is what a lot of starz use. They don't say anything about it keeping them away but hey it worked for me, and totally stoped the iches!

This thread is moving fast!! I've been reading along but haven't had time to post.

Buying for #2 We ordered a convertible crib, 5 drawer chest, and nightstand last night. We would have used DD crib but we just converted hers so she can have a big girl bed. We won't be buying a double stroller or any other big items since we have all that from DD. If we have a boy we'll definitley need clothes.

Dreams I been having really weird ones. I don't remember them being this bad with DD.

Sleep If I wake up to go to the bathroom I have a really hard time going back to sleep. It takes me a good two hours.

Tomorrow I have a doctor's appointment. I'm really anxious to hear the heart beat. I think that I've felt movement but that was a few weeks ago and I havn't felt it since. I need to ask my doctor what I can take for nausea. Hopefully she can prescribe something for me. I thought it was supposed to go away during the second tri?? Mine is getting worse. I doubt that I've gained any weight because I haven't been eating. I hoping that I get to schedule the big u/s tomorrow too. I'm dying to know! This baby's h/b has been consistent with DD's. So I'm guessing girl.

I'll be back tomorrow to update. Time for bed!

jessy- I'm so sorry. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

baby movements- I thought I felt the baby on Sat night, but I havent felt anything since. Who knows?

stretch marks/itchy skin- I used Palmer's last time and probably will this time too. The only place I got stretch marks were on my hips/butt area but I'm very fair skinned so you cant even see them.

On friday night, I went to a work dinner and didnt get home until after midnight. That's the latest that I've been up in a long time! It was a busy weekend, so I didnt get a nap, so I've been exhausted the entire weekend. I struggled to get out of bed this morning.

Mickey&B- Thanks for that tip about the lotion. I'll look into it. I've just been using body cream from B&BW because that's what I have (I normally don't use lotion), but I should look for something else. Since winter is about here, my skin is starting to dry out anyway.

Kelly51703- I'm sorry you're still feeling like crap. Have fun hearing the heartbeat today!

makena- That was a late night Friday! I hope you can catch up on your sleep sometime. It's amazing how one night like that will totally throw you off.

Me- I *think* I felt the baby move Friday night, but I'm not sure. I know everyone says that first-time mommies don't usually realize they're feeling the baby move until they've been feeling it a while, so I'm really trying to pay attention to different feelings down there! What I felt Friday night was like bubbles or butterflies, like I've heard it feels like at first. It wasn't something I'd ever felt before (like gas or something!). I was lying in bed watching TV when it happened.

I have an appointment next Monday, and I can't wait. Does anyone start to get nervous between appointments? Since it's been a while since I've been to the doctor, I can't help but feel like something is wrong.

I wish my belly would get bigger soon. I'm sick of looking like I just have a beer belly! I want people to walk past me and think, "Aww, look at that pregnant lady!" not, "Hmmm, she has a nice gut."

E&O
11-12-2007, 08:27 AM
Not a great morning for a pregnant woman. I went into a meeting at 8:30 and it did not get over until 11:00. I was starving! I had a small juice and cereal bar at 6:30 this morning, but had not gotten to eat anything else since then. I scarfed down a 1/2 bagle and banana as soon as it was over!

I just need to brag a little bit here- Our DD took her first official steps yesterday!!! She's been cruising and using push toys for quite a while, but these were the first solo steps. She took 4 steps before falling into my arms.
She is 16 months old this week and had been delayed in her motor skills because she was a 5week premie, so this has been a long time coming. We are just THRILLED that she has finally caught up to her age group.

Last night I bought some new winter maternity clothes. Two sweaters and two layering tanks from Old Navy. My current tops all seem so short on me. Probably from the growing boobs and belly. So I'm excited to have some new things to wear.

rachrich
11-12-2007, 08:41 AM
E&O very exciting on the first steps!! don't worry about it being delayed, my DD decided not to walk on her own until 17.5 months, and she's perfectly fine. all babies are different. but it is reassuring when they finally do walk.

diaper bag it's been a couple pages back, but i wanted to respond to the expensive DB question. For me, it really is a shallow, selfish thing. not too proud, but it's just something fluffy that I want. I probably won't get it cause DH will not be caught dead with such a bag! besides, since this is #2, we're hardly buying anything. Oh, reminds me: i am buying a new nice breast pump. Any recs? DH bought me an Evenflo electric thing that was a P.O.S.!!!! i hated it, thank goodness it was only $50. I've heard good things about Playtex and the Medela brands. BFing went sour very quick with DD and I'm really trying to educate and prepare myself better so this time around BFing will go well. Not to start a BF/FF war, but is there anyone who FF the first and is planning on making BF work this time? or any successful BFer's the first time? I've been lurking in the BF thread, but just wondering what you ladies are thinking.

I've got an appt. tomorrow. Will probably be scheduling for the "big" u/s. we're def. finding out the gender this time!

baby moving i'm getting some weird feeling sometimes when i'm laying still. i think it's so early, but it could be. it's exciting to think that it could be baby movning though! :)

baby moving- I cant believe I forgot to post that I felt the baby for the first time on Saturday night! it's such a wonderful feeling...like a fluttering.

round ligament pain- Anyone have this yet?? I did on Saturday and it took my breath away! It was this hot, burning sensation in one spot on my side. I was wrestling w/ my DD and thought maybe I did something then a friend reassured me that it was RL pain.

E&O-Congrats on the first steps!

breast pump- I pumped for 6 months after going back to work and I highly recommend the Medela PIS. Well worth the money.

MrsBecky-I think most pregnant women start to get worried b/n doctor appts. We just need that reassurance! Dont worry...your little one is just fine!

I had a dream last night that we are having a boy! Of course, that could just be wishful thinking.

tinagirl26

E&O - Congrats on the first steps! My DS was a late walker too so I know how exciting it is to feel like they are finally "catching up". Now it's getting him to sit still that is the challenge! :D Oh, and I went shopping last night at Old Navy too! I brought home two new sweaters and one of those thermal looking tops. I had been whining all weekend about how my old maternity shirts are just too short this time around so my DH took me shopping. :)

Kelly - Sorry you're not feeling well. If it makes you feel any better, I'm still feeling pretty crappy too. According to my pg journal from last time, I started feeling better at 16 weeks so I'm looking forward to that mark this time! Hopefully your dr will prescribe you something. My meds have helped tremendously but the one that really does the job (Zofran) is one my insurance only covers a little bit of so I have to use it sparingly. Hope your appt goes well!

MrsBecky - I get anxious between appts too! It gets better once you feel the baby move on a regular basis because you've got that reassurance that they're OK in there. And it sounds like you're not far from that point - definitely sounds like you're feeling movement. Very exciting!

Rachrich - I have an Ameda Purely Yours and was very happy with it last time around. We also had major problems BF so I ended up pumping and supplementing with formula before we switched to formula FT at 6 mos. I had kind of a love/hate relationship with my pump as a result... But it kept up with me pumping FT for 6 mos so the pump itself is pretty good. I'm kind of anxious about the idea of attempting to BF again with #2 (it was just so frustrating and heartbreaking the first time around!) but I'm determined to try again. It's nice to know someone else is in a similar situation - we'll have to make an extra effort to encourage each other when the time comes.

Makena - Congrats on feeling the baby move! And, yes, I've been having round ligament pain too! I have to remind myself to change positions slowly now, especially when I'm getting out of bed. Ouch!

Buying for #2 - I actually started a registry just for myself so I have a list somewhere of what we need. It includes a double stroller, a second high chair/booster seat, and things that were somehow trashed the first time around like a new bumper and mobile for the crib. Haven't decided on which way we'll go with sleeping yet - I'm sure Baby #2 will be in our room for a while in a bassinet so that gives us time to figure out if DS will be ready for a toddler bed or if we need a second crib. I'm lucky because all my closest friends are having babies like crazy these days so we're all passing around baby gear and clothes within our circle. And there's tons of both boy and girl clothes to be had so at least I don't have to worry about that!

Diaper bag - I never really got into the fancy diaper bag craze. We used the free one from the hospital for a long time and then bought a very affordable Eddie Bauer bag. It spends most of its time hanging on a hook at daycare so maybe that's why I'm not all that attached to it?

Baby moving - Still waiting over here. Every once in a while I think I feel something, but even as an RO I'm just not sure. It seems awfully early! Last time I didn't figure out that I was feeling DS until about 20 weeks. Can't wait for that part!! I have a long torso so he was never really kicking my ribs or anything too uncomfortable. Definitely my favorite part of being pregnant...

OK, I've been super chatty!! :D I took the day off today since DS's daycare is closed and he's currently napping. I wanted to get a post in while I have the chance because once he's up it will be go, go, go! :)

rachrich: i had a VERY hard time bfing last time. It went sour from when DS was 3 days old and got readmitted the day after discharge for jaundice and was put in an incubator for phototherapy. My male pediatrician told me to stick my boobs inside an bf that way. um, a$$!! (we switched peds practices immediately). Anyway, i'd say DS was getting half and half, mostly via the bottle and pumping and loved the formula. So, i'm going to keep at it with my Medela Pump in Style but i too am going to read up on it a little better, like maybe get bigger breast shields and meet w/ a lc beforehand.

E & O That is great that your DD took her first steps. DS didn't walk until almost 18 months, DD on the other hand took her first steps at 11 mos. Break out the baby gates!!!

Buying for number 3 I think we're all set. I already have a double stroller and although I would love a triple jogger, I don't think I can justify it.

Round ligament pain Oh definitely. I forgot about it until the pangs began...

Breastfeeding This is by far my Least (with a capital L) favorite part of parenting. I know for many it is such a natural, tender experience with your newborn. Not so much for me. I don't want to scare any first timers, but I wish I knew before hand just how difficult BFing was. (NOTE- I have plenty of friends who had much easier experiences, so take what I say with a grain of salt) For me, BFing was 100X worse than labor and delivery. It was excruciatingly painful those first few weeks. I vividly remember biting down on my shirt and curling my toes in agony with every latch on. It wasn't any easier the second time around either, even though DD was a much better nurser. I was always in too much pain to experience any bonding, etc. I will tell you though that it does get better, ( after the callouses form, I guess). The best advice that I received was to stick it out for three weeks and then re-evaluate the situation. I did, and ended up nursing for about nine months. I am dreading those first few weeks again this go round, but I'll endure. (I hope). Oh, and as for a breast pump, I love my Medela pump in style. I recommend getting the car adapter. Many a times on long trips, I would throw a blanket over my shoulder and pump in the car, and then hop in the backseat and give DC a bottle so we didn't have to stop.

Maternity clothes I haven't busted them out yet, but my regular clothes are getting snug. I wear a suit to work, so I can't really switch into my maternity suits until I come clean at work. Maybe I'll bust out the play clothes this weekend. I remember with my first, I didn't wear a stitch of maternity clothing until I was six months along. I do need a winter coat. I saw one at Target that might do.

Enough from me. Feel good everyone.

I'm starting to feel a little guilty that I'm getting kind of lax with pregnancy
#2. With prenancy #1 I was drinking water all day like a champ- 3 or 4 bottles, drinking 1 diet coke per week and I think I was eating a little bit better. But this time around I drink maybe 1-2 bottles of water per day, drink 1 diet coke everyday (although my midwife says 1 per day is OK, I still feel guilty), I eat a turkey sub at least once per week. I just feel like I'm not being as careful.

I was reading on another thread about mothers who had premature rupture of water in PG#1, like I did. One woman had her water break at 30w with #1and then her water broke at 19w with #2 and she lost the baby. I suddenly have a terrible fear of this and that it will be all the fault of not being as strict this time around.

I'm just feeling a little crappy today, that is all.

E&O- Congrats! That is so exciting to see your little one do each step.

Rachrich- I think it's wonderful you want to BF. I had no problems with it at all. She latched on after birth and it was like we'd been a nursing team forever. If you want someone to cheer you on, you can depend on me! It can be rough in the beginning b/c the baby is feeding a LOT. Also, they're gassy and moody things and that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the BFing. What were your problems with DD? I highly recommend a ped who is pro-nursing and a great relationshiop with a lactation consultant. These people won't stop until they "fix" the "problem". I couldn't imagine making a bottle after I had the hang of BFing. I could take long walks with DD and just a blanket, wipes/diapers, and a water bottle for me and I knew she had everything she needed. I used the Medela PIS. Love it!! I will be buying one of Medela's bras where you can pump handsfree. I wish I had that last time. Nothing like emailing while you pump!

MrsBecky- I too can't wait til Thurs. In between each appt. I freak up until the point when I feel the baby move daily.

Diaper bag- I too wanted to respond to this. Sometimes you have to pay for quality. My Fleurville diaper bag has an outer plastic lining to be wiped clean. It also has metal feet on the bottom to keep it from getting banged up. The handles are all securely sewed to the bag and/or have large, quality hooks. The interior is a durable canvas type material. Lastly, I love it enough that I know I will not tire of it. I have to mention that I can afford it; however, I did not grow up with a lot of money so I choose my pricey items wisely.

Buying for #2: If it's a boy, we'll buy all new bedding and clothes. But not for the first few months because we have tons of unisex and, anyways, the baby is swaddled and really only needs a onesie! (I do already have a coming home outfit if this is a boy.) I remember thinking, why do I have all of these nice clothes when she wears the same thing several days in a row? We're definitely in the market for a double stroller (we'll be having a 3rd soon enough). I'll be getting at least one more Hotsling.

A PP mentioned the Papasan- YES- it's a lifesaver! Anyone who ends up with a colicky baby will welcome a half hour break so their arms can rest. DD slept in there a few nights b/c nothing else worked. Don't waste money on any other type of swing that doesn't swing front-to-back & side-to-side. Never buy a travel swing.

stretch marks- I guess you're either prone to these or not through genetics. I do think not gaining a ton of weight too fast helps keep them away. I did not get any stretch marks with DD. I did rub a good quality lotion in each day and at night. I rub lotion all over my skin pregnant or not.
======================================
We need to start interviewing preschools. Our church has early registration for members starting this week and I'm sure other schools are getting ready for registration. I can't believe we need to decide already for next fall. She'll be 2 1/2 by Sept. 1 so she can go 2 days a week for 2 1/2 hr.

Thursday we get blood drawn for the AFP test. I'm nervous as I was with DD and probably won't sleep well until I get the results. I look forward to hearing the h/b b/c I am not feeling anything yet- except for hunger pangs 24/7. When I roll from one side to the next, I do feel a little lump slowly shift.

Hello everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted in so long. Work has been so crazy lately.

I had my 12w appointment today, but I am a little concerned. My doctor was not able to hear the heartbeat through the doppler. She tried for about 5 minutes and we could not hear anything. She then did an u/s and we could see the h/b and she said everything looked normal, but I am still a little worried.

Is it normal to not be able to hear anything by 12 weeks? Does this mean that it is not a strong h/b?

I cross posted with a bunch of you....

I had to laugh at MrsChappy's story about putting her boobs in the incubator. See, I was the mom who got in the backseat and leaned over the car seat to BF DD while DH was driving! I'm pretty modest, but when it comes to my kid I'm kind of like a lioness over her pride... tho it would have been a little embarrassing to be "open to the public" like that in the incubator!

BF pain- For any of you who may experience pain, I would gladly listen to you vent, cry, etc. My mom, grandma and several friends told me it could be a little painful in the beginning. I mean, think about it, the last time anyone gave your nipples that much attention was during one of your hot n heavy DTD sessions! Can you imagine that every day, 8 times a day or more? Baby's jaws are powerful! I agree with Dettes, it gets way better. Of course there is some pain (not for all) sometimes, if the latch isn't proper or it's been a long day of nursing. I don't mean at all to come off like "I did it, you should" but I strongly believe that with the proper support and encouragement, anyone can do it very successfully. I had a great network around me. People who had been through it and could say that it would get better (pain-wise) would rally me. My DH was also very supportive and knew all of the benefits and of course wanted the best for his baby. I made him go to the BF class and it was the best thing ever b/c he would never have taken in all that he learned there...so when I was down he'd say, "remember, they said that this could happen and you should do this, etc."

Whatever you do, your baby will grow up just fine. DH was adopted and I don't see him suffering from not being BF. ;-) But, I sure am glad I did it and I will always think of it as an accomplishment, one of my best.

Wow are you guys chatty :)

Feeling better today, it seems the nausea comes and goes less often YEAH!!! but the exhaustion is still in full swing! Other than that not much going on. I did buy a Thanksgiving and Christmas outfit at a little boutique at the mall, I am loving the fact that fashion is very preggo friendly right now!

BF I consider my self pretty successful, not to say that I didn't have my set backs and my moments of doubts ;) but I took a BF'ing class and stayed in contact with an LC. I also subscribed to the BF thread, those ladies are an ubundance of information and support! I highly recommend the Medela PIS I also recomend getting it before the baby is born! I ended up BF for 9 months until my supply totally took a dump dispite trying everything I could.

Breastfeeding- We had a rough start with DS. I have an inverted nipple on one side so that caused difficulties from the start. In getting him latched for the first time in the hospital, I had to have a LC help and I ended up with a horrible bruise that made things very painful for weeks. Also DS was so sleepy from jaundice that he wouldn't stay awake long enough to nurse. We literally tortured him for a week trying to keep him awake. Finally I had enough and started pumping. I pumped exclusively for 2 weeks. I saw two different LC's after leaving the hospital. The first one told me to give up, that DS would never nurse. I brooded about that for a week, before I decided that I wasn't going to give up. I saw another one who got DS nursing within an hour and within 24 hours we were exclusively nursing. That wasn't the end of our problems, but we made it through. It was all worth it. We nursed for 13 months. So my advice is not to give up and find a good LC who helps you.

I had a Medela Pump in style which was fine, but I also rented a hospital grade pump for the first month. There really is no comparison. If you aren't sure, get a hospital rental pump. The hospital grade pumps are so much stronger and more efficient. I probably got 30% more milk using the hospital rental.

First, I want to say to Jesseybell, that I'm praying that everything does turn out for the better, and I hope the CVS results tomorrow are good.

DD was sick on Friday so I took the day off and didn't have time to login to check on everyone. This thread moved fast!

See, I was the mom who got in the backseat and leaned over the car seat to BF DD while DH was driving!
GlamaGal, you're not the only one who's done that! We went on a family ski trip when DD was 11 months old. Since we were in our suburban, I would just hop back in the 3rd seat when she'd get fussy, cover up with a blankie (sometimes not) lean over car seat and feed her. Worked out fine and we didn't have to stop!

Breastfeeding, I will admit it hurt like crazy those first few weeks. But I knew it was supposed to get better so I kept at it and went to see BF support group at the hospital a few times. Her latch wasn't good, so when we fixed that, it got so much better. I BF DD for 15 months. Yikes just realized that was 3 months ago! I rented a hospital grade pump for the first month per the hospital LC suggestion. And I bought a Medela PIS advanced, and used that until she was about 12 months old. I bought the car adapter but never used it, but I'm glad I have it just in case I need it.

Diaper Bag, though I do own a lot of bags that I use as diaper bags, I would like to get a nicer one. DH doesn't care what it really looks like since I don't think he's ever really been out and about with DD where he needed one. That said most of the time mine stays in the car. I do use a small, diapers and wipes bag all the time! That I will take with me if we're going shopping but otherwise, everything stays in the car. hmmmm...now wondering if I really do need a new diaper bag after all.

BeachGirl, if you saw a HB on a sono then that's just as good as finding it with a doppler. Sometimes, even at 12 weeks its difficult to find one with a doppler because of where the baby may be at the moment.

stretch marks, didn't get any with DD. I think its mostly genetics too. Although because of the itchiness I did slather on some type of cream on my belly every day (and everywhere else for that matter). My skin always gets extremely dry in the winter.

feeling baby, I think I just felt it. Although I may not have yet. lol. I remember with DD, it felt more like someone was flicking me from the inside. Not the flutter feeling at all.

morning sickness, still have it. Got sick this morning actually. I know it will eventually go away (I hope).

I think I'm caught up now!

The big u/s is December 12th.

My next appointment is December 13th.

I just wanted to do a fly by post on BFing:

I truly think that as Mothers, we do the best we can for our own baby, whether that be BF, FF or a combination thereof. That being said, I am pro-BFing for myself but feel it's a individual decision for each Mother. When I had DD, I was definitely on the fence about it, but I was determined to try. The first few weeks were very hard, but I stuck thru it and it got better everyday. I nursed for 9 months, pumping during work for 6 of those.

I think the key to a successful BF relationship for me was a strong support "staff" including the hospital, my good friend, and my Mom. I highly recommend taking a BF class to anyone who thinks they might give it a try. I also recommend taking a motrin about 30 mins before BFing during those first few days...definitely helps w/ the cramps. Having a comfortable seat and nursing pillow or whatever makes you comfortable is great too.

So, if anyone out there needs some support when that time comes, just let me know! I'd love to help.

One more piece of advice....if you dont already have a pump, you might want to consider renting one from the hospital for a month or two. The good ones are a lot of money and I'd hate to see someone shell out the money and then not get use out of it! Honestly, I didnt use my electric pump (Medela PIS) until I went back to work. For the first few days when I was engorged, I just used the manual pump to pump off enough so my DD could latch.

I read along but I always feel so overwhelmed with SOs and catching up that I never do. Of course, then the catching up only gets worse. :)

First of all, Jesseybell, you are in my thoughts.

And I can't do SOs for everyone, but here are a few thoughts on things...

E&O - Congrats on your new walker! That's wonderful! As for worrying about pPROM again, I hear ya. It happened to me last time at 16w3d. I do try to do a few things to help prevent it (not running up and down stairs or really at all, limiting my trips up and down the stairs, not carrying anything heavier than my son, and generally just taking it easy), but the fear is still there. And I was so lucky that my son was fine; I worry I won't be so lucky if it happens again. BUT, whatever will be will be, and I just have to hope it doesn't happen. You know? I hope we both (and everyone else here, obviously!) have perfectly long, healthy pregnancies!

Glamagal - It's funny you say to not buy a travel swing. Ours was a savior! We had to have it when we went out of town and to the grandparents (we ended up buying it one time we were at my parents' house and my DS wouldn't sleep!). Then I used it at home in our bathroom and he'd happily nap while I showered. That thing was a Godsend to us. :) Of course we also had the large aquarium swing that swings both ways too. Though you know, he only ever wanted to rock front to back.

Beachgirl - Don't worry. Seeing the hb on the u/s is just as good as hearing it on the doppler. Sometimes the baby is too far back to make it easy, or is moving around a lot. Another thing I've heard is that if you are really skinny it makes it easier to find quickly, but if not (if you're more average-sized), it can be harder. Not sure if that's a factor with you, but just throwing that out there just FYI.

Breastfeeding - First I acknowledge that this is a very personal decision and we all have to do what is right for us. I never thought I'd "enjoy" BFing, but I was VERY committed to seeing it through for at least six months, because I felt it was best for my son, but also because it was the cheapest alternative! As a new SAHM, I was all about saving money. It was SO HARD at first. I do recommend meeting with a lactation consultant a few days after you go home. That meeting absolutely saved me from a great deal of additional pain. It was still painful though...for about eight weeks. I would usually slam my foot down when he latched on and grit my teeth for the first minute. It was horrible. But as time went by, it got easier and easier. Then we realized my son had a dairy intolerance (among other intolerances) so it was just easiest and best for him to continue BFing and I had to eliminate all the offending foods (ALL dairy, strawberries, avocado, nuts) from my diet. Of course it was a sacrifice, but it was one I'd do again in a heartbeat. Plus hey, I lost a TON of weight. ;)

I never planned on nursing past 12 months, but when 12 months came and went, I decided just to keep on as long as he wanted to continue. Turns out he decided he wanted to end our nursing relationship just before he turned 15 months. I was so pleased that it was completely his decision and I really missed BFing and that closeness with him once it was done. I would have NEVER in a million years thought I would have enjoyed it as much as I did. All the pain in the beginning was totally worth it. My advice is, if it's something you really want to do, you have to be totally committed to it, and don't be afraid to ask for help!

Pump - I actually only had a manual pump last time (Medela Harmony) and I pumped hundreds of ounces with that thing! I just found out though that I can get the Medela Pump In Style for about $100 through my insurance so that's what I'm going to do. Definitely check with your insurance!

One more word about the manual pump though...if you want to wait to purchase an electric pump until you know BFing will work for you, I still recommend getting a manual one. I was so engorged at first, it made it so hard for my son to latch (causing more pain for me). The LC suggested I pump a little to "deflate the balloon" a little and it helped tremendously!

~~~
As for me, I had another appointment today and all is well. The baby's heartbeat was in the 160s (same as last time). I continue to be seen every other week (so I'm not even going to bother with posting all the dates). I think I'm going to start going every three weeks after my next appointment if my doc will agree to it!
We are switching insurance to a better plan starting Jan 1, so it looks like we'll put my big u/s off until then. I ended up canceling my nuchal scan because I only wanted it for the u/s and we just can't afford the extra expense for no good reason!
BFing: To make a long story short, DS would not latch in the hospital so I started pumping from day 1! I EP'd for 5 weeks and then got a nipple shield. We used that for about a month and finally he just latched. I BF'd for 13 months and agree that it was a great accomplishment! There aren't any LCs readily accessible so I basically did it on my own, even though everyone kept telling me just to FF. I think it was my defiance of that that really kept me going. Plus it was WAY cheaper to BF!! No one can tell you what is best for you or your baby, so to each their own! But if you aren't sure, give it a shot! It's at least worth a try! :)
Pumps: I have the Medela PIS and it worked great for 13 months!! I pumped every day, multiple times each day and never had a problem with the pump! I did buy bigger horns though and that really helped the output and the uncomfortable feeling I got sometimes.
I truly think that as Mothers, we do the best we can for our own baby, whether that be BF, FF or a combination thereof. That being said, I am pro-BFing for myself but feel it's a individual decision for each Mother.
Perfectly said! I BF'd DS for 6 months. It was definitely not easy at the start, and I agree with everyone else that I set my first goal to get through the first 3-4 weeks. It gets better after that usually. Lansinoh was a good friend of mine. When I went back to work and had to pump, it was the beginning of the end. Pumping stunk. At the end of 6 months, we stopped because DS started to prefer the bottle and my supply was dwindling.
I did have a great LC at the hospital who helped me get a good latch. But the one negative at that hospital was that she was the only one who was supportive of BF. The nurses were not very supportive at all, and I think that's something that needs to change. I don't want them to veer too far to the other side (i.e. put down FF'ing moms), but they need to help out the BF'ing moms.
Pump - I had the Ameda Purely Yours and it worked great for me.
Stretch marks - I have a ton. Now, I've always been prone to them. If I gained 5-10 lbs I would get marks on my thighs. I also gained 40 lbs during my pregnancy, which didn't help. Most of the ones on my belly have faded, but I still have deep pink ones on my hips that are taking a long time to fade. Lotion didn't help me at all.
BeachGirl - If they saw a hb on the u/s, then I'd think you're still OK.
Holy Cow! So many posts...
First, I had my appointment yesterday. All went well, I'm only up 2 pounds, woohoo! At this point last time I think I was up somewhere around 20 pounds! I had to take DS to my appointment with me, that was a treat, ha! He is such a mama's boy and is so shy, that whenever anyone even looks at him he burries his head in my shoulder. But when we got to hear the heartbeat, he got quiet and just sat and listened with us - it was so cute. My next appointment is Dec 11 - so far away...
Breastpump: I used the Medela PIS and LOVED it. My sister had a cheaper one and it sucked. If you work, I highly recommend spending the money on a better quality pump. I pumped 3x a day at work for 6 months.
Breastfeeding: I was really on the fence last time. In fact, I didn't want to do it. It seemed creepy to me. I hated seeing other women BF in public and I didn't want to be one of them. But...I felt pressured and was eventually guilted into it. I decided I would try it and see how it worked. Well, DS latched on like a champ and I never had any issues at all. Not even any pain, thank goodness. I did, however, start pumping at 3 days - despite all the literature saying not to. I was worried DS wasn't getting enough, so I started pumping and giving him a bottle, which he took right away, just to make sure he was actually getting something. When I was satisfied that he wasn't going to starve, we went back to BF'ing, but I always pumped whatever was left after he was done (again, despite what the literature said), and started freezing it for my return to work. In the end, I'm glad I tried it, but I wouldn't have felt it was the end of the world had it not worked. My mom didn't BF and I think we're all doing just fine. My sister had a really hard time with it and gave up after only a few months, if that, and I don't think her DS feels any less loved than mine.
I pp mentioned the hands-free pumping bra - a definite must! Those would have been the LONGEST pumping sessions ever at work had I had to sit there and hold the pump to me! As it was was, I could type, email, surf the Net, whatever, during that time.
I am a little worried about BF'ing this time around though. Everything was so leisurely last time - I'm worried about what DS will be doing this time as I'm stuck feeding #2... Others have done it and survived though, I suppose.
Stretchmarks: I did end up with some stretchmarks from DS, but what did I expect after gaining 70 pounds!?!? Luckily (I guess) they are on my thighs. I didn't end up with any on my belly, so hopefully I can avoid it this time as well. I used Palmer's Cocoa Butter twice a day - it made me smell like hot cocoa for 6 months!
E&O - Congrats on the walker! Those first steps are so wonderful! DS was a late walker too, just because. My nephew started walking the same week DS did and he's 4 months younger!
Sorry such a long post - I'm going to get back to work now!
Sully: Thanks for the words of encouragement. I wanted to ask abotu the precautions you are taking (limiting the stairs and running) is this something your doctor mentioned to you or things you've limited on your own?
I ask becuase I have continued to go to the gym 2-3x per week and I have been lifting weights (no more than 20 lbs) and also doing cardio (but keepin gmy heart rate below the suggested max); and i wonder if this is something I should limit. I have an appt with my midwife on 11/29 so I guess I will ask her about my concerns.
Also, are they recommending the progesterene shots for you?
I thought I would just drop in to give you an update:
We went in for the CVS this morning and there was no heart beat. I actually was elated, as much as I could have been. There really was such a slim chance of positive results from the CVS, so we were spared having to make hard decisions. I am awaiting word from my doctor of when to schedule the D&C.
I am actually doing okay with this all. My 15 month old DD continues to be my rock that keeps me going. I will fully enjoy her young toddlerhood and I look forward to her having a sibling when she is 2-3 years old. In the meantime I will be having myself plenty o' drinks at our tailgating (and since the liklihood of us hosting the AFC championship is high right now, tailgating will continue well into January....and while it no longer will be a babymoon, we'll enjoy the superbowl with friends in sunny FL). I was going to say I will be toasting you all with more drinks when you deliver, but I could be pregnant again by then.
Jesseybell - Been thinking about you this morning, thank you for checking in. I am heartbroken to hear your news, but I can understand your relief at not having to make those hard decisions. Look into the eyes of your DD and find the strength to continue on at such a difficult time.
Breastfeeding- I, of course, agree with all the others about it being a personal decision. I don't judge anyone for choosing to formula feed from the get-go or supplementing with formula. I believe you have to do what is best for you and your child. I did breast feed and I hated it in the beginning! It was so extremely painful, DD didn't have a good latch and wanted to bf all the time. My toes would curl the whole time; my hands and feet would sweat just even knowing that it was almost time for another feeding, I mean it was pretty traumatic in the beginning. I reached out to a friend who had a baby five weeks before me and she helped immensely. I also read tons of info on the Le Leche League and bought their book. DH was supportive of me breastfeeding and we both went to a bf'ing class before DD was born. He suggested I go see a lactation consultant with DD and I felt horrible about the $80/hr. fee to see her but he insisted that if it helps, it is worth it. So with that statement, I was determined to make that $80 work for us! The LC helped a lot and she also referred me to a breastfeeding mothers group hosted by the hospital I gave birth at. I honestly think that was my saving grace. I actually looked forward to my weekly meetings and giving my update for the week (there was an LC there and she would help all of us with latch, comfort, tips, ideas, etc). I felt a sense of accomplishment giving my update of any small (or big) success with bf'ing. When I went back to work I started pumping and did that for six months until my supply just dwindled and I started introducing formula as well. DD and I had a 9 month bf€™ing relationship and now I wouldn't change it for the world. Anyhoo, when the time comes and if any other moms out there get to their wit's end/pain threshold I'm here to help and support others.
E&O - Congrats on your DD's first steps! What an accomplishment for her! My daughter was also a late walker and my personal feeling is that is was due to her horrible chronic ear infections just about constantly for the first year of her life (balance/equilibrium issues). Once we got tubes in her ears and her adenoids removed it was almost like she stood up and started walking that next day. We were so proud even though she was the last to walk in her class. She's now 21 months and running around class with all the other kids.
I have also not been so healthy with baby #2. I feel a lot more lax with this one and am feeling the guilt also. Diet Dr. Pepper? SURE! Deli meat? YES! Sugar? Who can say NO? I certainly didn't have the problems you had (or Sully130), but I feel like I need to afford this baby the same health or better than DD, I just haven't lived up to that yet.
Sully130 - Thanks for the tip about checking for pumps through your insurance. I borrowed a Medela (AWESOME) pump from a close friend last time but I want my own this time, even though this will almost positively be our last child. How do you like that for commitment? I would go for three kids, but DH is pretty adamant about just two. We'll cross that bridge a little later.
Becky - Yes, I get nervous between appointments. I have my monthly check-up and I'm anxiously waiting to hear the hb and get the OK from the doctor. It is nice when appointments go to two weeks and then one week (of course that also means you are very close to the end of pregnancy so other excitements kick in)!
Stretchmarks - I thought I did SOOOO great last time, and I did right up until the 9th month! I slathered my belly every morning after my shower with some stretch mark cream. NO stretch marks until I got so big at nine months that no amount of cream could fend it off. I agree with whoever said it, if you're prone to stretch marks you-ll get them no matter how diligent with the potions and creams.
BeachGirl - Glad to see you checking in! Not hearing the hb at 12 weeks doesn't necessarily mean a bad thing as others have said. Your baby could just be nestled in a far away corner of the womb or is in a position that the Doppler can't pick up the hb and I've heard of that happening quite a bit. Sounds like the doctor wasn't worried and picked it up on u/s though, right? All should be well then but if you're worried about it, call your doc.
When the nurse started the doppler at my 12 week, before it even touched my belly, she said "Now don't get worried if we don't hear it this way - it's still early" She couldn't find it, another nurse came in and after about 4 minutes, found it. They had already set up the ultrasound room for me at that point. I wasn't worried because so many of the girls on this thread had already been for their 12 week and had reported difficulty finding the h/b. That made me feel comforted. The nurses at my OB said as long as you hear it (throgh the doppler or u/s) everything is fine. Baby is still small - and could be turned away from the belly, making locating the h/b difficult. The u/s is certain. If it's there...it's fine.
Thinking about Jessey today!
I think we had the same pregnancy the first time around. I also gained 70 lbs! (73 to be exact)! Approaching things differently this time. Congrats on the tiny weight gain!
jesseybell- I really think smilewithme said it best. I wish you the best of luck in the future!
E&O- I wanted to congratulate you on your DD's first steps also! How exciting!
BFing: Since I have nothing to say about my experience BFing (;)), I'll just say that I plan to do it, and I hope it works out. DH supports me in the decision, but I was quite disappointed with how my mother reacted when I told her. She kind of said, "Oh, you're doing to 'do that?' " Nice, huh? She also told me she didn't think I was the "kind of person who would want to do that." What the hell is that supposed to mean? This happened over three weeks ago, and I'm still a little bitter about it. She acted like it WASN'T better for the baby! :mad:
Weight gain: At my last appt., I had actually lost 4 pounds. I just weighed myself last night, and I haven't gained any of that 4 pounds back, but I haven't lost any more either. When does the doctor (and when should I) become worried about this? I eat cereal for breakfast and two hearty meals a day, as well as a healthy snack around 10 a.m. To tell you the truth, my eating habits haven't really changed at all since I got PG. I think I still eat a lot! :o
Jessey Thanks for checking in. While I am sad for you, your attidue is truly inspiring.
but I was quite disappointed with how my mother reacted when I told her. She kind of said, "Oh, you're doing to 'do that?' " Nice, huh? She also told me she didn't think I was the "kind of person who would want to do that."
Our mothers come from a generation where they were injected with something on the delivery table to make thier milk dry up. The old addage about teaching an old dog new tricks seems appropriate here.
Weight gain I wouldn't worry about it Becky. You have to figure, your baby is only about the size of a kidney bean right now. I only gained 21 lbs total with my first and 16 lbs. with my second, and I ate ice cream every single day (hey- I needed the calcium). Otherwise, I didn't really change my eating habits. Both times I lost weight in the 1st trimester (I think because I gave up my beloved and calorie laden wine). I didn't start gaining any weight until the second trimester. Everyone's body is different, you'll gain at your own pace.
Last night over dinner I finished up my DD's veggies and ranch dip. I'm lactose intolerant but during pg I usually don't have this condition. Well, afterwards we went to Target for a few things and my stomach started cramping so bad (this is typical me as I also have IBS). We made it home and I was sick. When I checked the tissue there was a little bit of blood. I checked to make sure where it was coming from and sure enough it was from my baby maker. It wasn't a lot. Thru the night only once did I see a small speck of pinkish on the tissue; however, after each potty trip I couldn't sleep for worry about the baby (I've already had a m/c in June). I called the Dr. this morning and since there was not a lot of spotting, they don't need to see me asap unless it starts again. They think my stomach cramps caused the spotting. However, she said I'm on pelvic rest until they see me Thurs. a.m. at my regular appt. So today I still didn't feel well, which I usually do after a few bathroom trips if it's IBS or lactose probs. I fed DD, laid her down, and vomited. I haven't done that for years. I'm just laying in bed with a heating pad hoping my DH can get home early today. This pregnancy has been 95% illness. I'm tired, somewhat worried, and sick.
Jesseybell I'm so glad you updated. I've been thinking of you and your family. I completely understand how you felt today and that was such a blessing, all things considered, that the baby's heart had already stopped. As you know from my PMs, a horrible situation is made much easier when decisions are made for us. I wish you peace and continued strength... Enjoyed the holidays and tailgating and I fully expect for you to pop back in and give us news of a healthy baby by spring! Take care.
Becky - My starting weight for this pregnancy was below where I and my doctor would have liked for it to have been. And my weight gain had been very, very slow. First it was just two pounds...then nothing...nothing...and then yesterday I had gained SEVEN pounds in two weeks. Sometimes it's like that. I wouldn't worry about it. If your doctor is concerned, he/she will let you know. I ended up gaining 40 pounds with my last pregnancy. I was going to the doctor weekly for most of my pregnancy, and there were some weeks I'd gain nothing, and then I'd gain five pounds. It will come.
E&O - I self-imposed most of my limitations, but when I told my doctor about it, she thought that was a fabulous idea. With me, the pPROM was so early, it's unlikely there was a "reason." However, the day it happened I had done a lot more than usual (ran up five flights of stairs at a parking garage, walked a friend's baby two blocks back to her car in the carseat carrier (after I had not allowed myself to lift more than 10 pounds for all of the pregnancy b/c of my spotting), and then I ran up and down the stairs at my house several times that night before it happened). My doc can't say that any of that caused the pPROM, but it's possible. My mom's water broke with my sister after she ran up a long flight of stairs.
I would say that if you were exercising prior to pregnancy in the same (or more intense) manner than you are now, you are probably okay to continue. I think it's when you overexert yourself and do things that your body is not used to, that you put yourself (even if it's ever so slightly) at risk for pPROM IF you've had it happen before. (I stress IF because I don't want to worry others!).
Of course I'm not a doctor, and that's just my opinion based on what happened to me and the information I gathered from other women who have experienced pPROM and subsequent pregnancies on the kanalen.org site.
As for the progesterone shots, I considered it and the doctor mentioned it as a possibility, but I think I will not. I just finished taking progesterone (orally), and I think that had I experienced pPROM later in my pregnancy (as you did), I would be more interested in the shots. My docs tell me that because mine happened so early, it was more of a fluke and less likely to repeat. They said the 30-35% recurrence stat is for people who experience it in the third trimester. ANYWAY, sorry to go on so much. :)
MrsChappy- You have made my day by settling my fears & sharing that with me. That means so much to me. I constantly worry during each pg, so actually having things to worry about in plain sight (blood, etc.) just puts me into a fit of anxiety. It helps to know someone else went thru it.
Jesseybell- I would be the same as you. A blessing in disguise. What a horrible thing to happen, then to place you in a position to decide would be just not nice. I had a friend who was in the same situation 10 yr. ago. Her baby had Turner's syndrome and she had to decide and it was hard on her. Take care of yourself and I'm so glad you have a DD to hug.
I only drank some Gatorade since I posted earlier and wouldn't you know it, my stomach forfeited it. I feel a little better afterwards, but during it I have to hold my belly for fear it'll pop out with the force! DD was patting my back today. Made me want to cry she's so sweet.
UGH. Should have already gotten that darn flu shot. Thanks for your well thoughts.
GlamaGal- What you have sounds horrible, and I hope you feel better soon. I had a date with the toilet all last Friday night, and I though that was bad. Compared to what you describe, it seems like nothing.
I have been very tired this week. I sleep well at night, which is a very welcome change from my normal sleeping habits, but I have such a hard time getting out of bed in the morning. Then I'm totally tired all day. Not fun. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to a three-day work week and four-day weekend next week!
DH is working tons of overtime, and I hate to say it, but I miss him. I'm so bored at home by myself. I have a ton of stuff I could be doing, but I'm too lazy I guess! I do like his paychecks as of late, however!
Jessey your appointment must've been bittersweet. That may be a poor choice of wording at a time like this, so I apologize. From your post, you seemed relieved, yet sad at the same time. Which is to be expected. Your family is in my prayers. I can't imagine what you're going through. Remember several posts back when we were discussing not drinking during the holidays? Well, now you'll be able to make it through dinner with that drink ;) have one for all of us.
Had my appt. today. I've gained 1 lb. since my last visit, and I heard the baby's heartbeat. that was about it-it was a very short visit. I got a flu shot while I was there as well. Dr. highly recommended it so I got it.
Next appt is Dec.13 and we'll be scheduling the gender u/s for a few weeks after that appt.
Jesseybell I have only just become aware of your difficult and sad week. I am truly sorry that you and your family are having this ordeal, and wish you all the best for the future.
Glama hope you are feeling better soon - having had terrible morning sickness until a week ago, I know what you are going through!
Breastfeeding/ formula feeding Breastfeeding didn't work so well for us last time. I was very keen to BF DS for 1 year, however at 8 weeks he started refusing the breast and holding out for a bottle (we had made the mistake of giving him one a day on the advice of a LC who was supposed to help with the latching). It was summer, the weather was in the 100's and I was so worried he was getting dehydrated by not feeding all day, that I had to cave and give him the bottle. After struggling for several weeks over this issue, I gave up and pumped until he was 5 months old. After that I switched to formula. I am hopeful that the baby will BF with none of these problems - for one thing, I won't be using that LC again (she gave me a bunch of bad advice and told me she suspected that DS might have a developmental delay - he doesn't, but it was very upsetting for me when he was only 10 days old).
my nuchal ultrasound i had this on Monday. It was all fine. I enjoyed seeing the baby, and everything is looking ok. The only thing that upset me was that my results gave me an adjusted age (same risk of downs) of a 29 year old- and I am 33 when the baby is born. They thought that was great, but I started to think I needed an amnio. With DS, I was given an adjusted age of a 15 year old, so I was shocked that it wasn't anywhere near that. They have said that I am definitely way above safe, so I'll have to just deal with it I think. I'd kick myself to have an amnio when they aren't recommending it and then loose a perfectly healthy baby for basically no reason. I'll speak to my ob about it next week - one thing that could have affected the results was that the baby is measuring quite big, and that would have changed the results a little.
GlamaGal
anemone- sounds like a horrible LC. Instead of supporting you, she brought you down. Don't feel too bad, DD wouldn't TAKE a bottle. It was a huge ordeal trying to get her to take one b/c I wouldn't leave the house w/out her unless I knew she could. So she didn't do it until 4 mos.! Was the only thing I ever cried about.:( I think with our 1st, we learn a lot that will certainly help us with the 2nd, 3rd, etc.
================================================== ========
Went to bed at 8PM. DH took care of DD from 4:30 PM on. I had to do the whole day by myself, feeling like that! I wish he had a regular job sometimes so he could call in sick. But that's why he makes the $$. I woke up at 3 a.m. and DH made me some chicken broth. After 3 sips and part of a Saltine, it all came up. Starving a pregnant lady is not nice!! So I'm afraid to eat b/c I hate, hate vomiting. Online it says the flu lasts 3 -4 times longer in pregnant women. Get your shots, ladies!
I went to my scheduled doctor appointment yesterday and everything was fine, hb at 145 - 150. Now that I've said that, I'll tell you that we had a couple of scary moments where the doc couldn't find the heartbeat. I was just holding my breath, not believing my ears. He put more gel on my belly and was pushing around really hard with the wand :eek: but I didn't care. As soon as I heard it I let out a sigh of relief and the doctor apologized profusely and said the little bean must have been curled up in a far away corner making it difficult on us. Whew. Next appt. is 12/10.
I've been feeling pretty good today. My doctor suggested eating a lot a small meals during the day to help deal with nausea and that seemed to help. i think that i felt the baby move on Monday night and then again last night.
Sorry so many of you ladies are feeling crappy!! :( My m/s finally eased up a couple of weeks ago and now I feel fine for the most part!! Hope yours does the same soon!!
Flu shot: I've never gotten the flu shot before but got one yesterday due to the pregnancy. I too thought it would protect me from the throwing up flu, but it doesn't. It protects from Influenza, the respiratory flu. Which is great, because that can be so dangerous, especially in pregnant women! So I'm bummed that I could still get the flu virus, but glad I am protected from Influenza! Some docs vary on this, but mine highly suggested it so who was I to argue? :)
I can't believe I'm 16 weeks already! Time sure is flying by.
This is TMI and not related to pregnancy, but I just had to share with someone. I was sitting on the toilet in my office's bathroom this morning, and all the lights went out! They are motion activated, and they only stayed on for about 30 seconds from the time I went into the bathroom. Needless to say, when I finally made my way out of the stall, I turned the switch from "auto" to "on."
It was pretty funny. I was waving my hands around like crazy, but they wouldn't turn back on. Luckily I could feel my way around for the TP and still use my foot to flush.
Oh, and I had a dream last night that I was unmarried and having an affair with Tiger Woods. Boy I wish I could remember more details. All I can remember is he called me on the phone all the time (I can hear him saying, "Becky, I'm here.") and we were out on the boat on the lake where my parents have a place. (I guess work is starting to rub off into my dreams again. I didn't even remember I had the dream until I visited PGATour.com and saw Tiger's name.)
I have a little tale to tell. Be warned, it may be WAY TMI for some and it is not exactly pregnancy related.
Last night I went out and had dinner with a girlfriend. I really didn't feel like it, I had a headache but I really wanted to see her too so I went. I ordered the fruit and cheese platter which is enormous and also a side of garlic mashed potatoes (it's the pregnancy, right?) and both tasted amazing. Well I got full REALLY quickly and started feeling worse and worse. I had to cut it short at about 7:30 and make the trip home so I could lay down and relax (this is about a 45 minute drive home). I called DH and told him I didn't feel well and would be home soon. As I was driving up the ramp to the freeway, I got that horrible feeling in my tummy and throat. You probably know the one - the one where you KNOW you're going to throw up. Unfortunately for me there was no shoulder to pull off on due to construction barriers. Also due to construction, the next two or three freeway exits were closed. I had no choice but to roll the window down and puke out the side in such voluminous amounts it was hard to believe. Since I was belted in AND trying to drive on the freeway somewhat safely, not everything made it outside. :( Luckily it was dark. Luckily there were no cars in the immediate vicinity. NOT luckily, I had to continue driving with a puke covered left arm, shirt, pants and all over the inside of the door and floor, not to mention the outside of the truck. :eek: When I got home my wonderful DH was there with a towel and the hose and he did A LOT of the work in cleaning it up.
So that's about it from here. I'm feeling pretty OK now, I think it was the food and being extra stuffed or something. Every once in awhile I'll get a slightly woozy feeling at work but it's not been bad.
