Not coming in to talk shit (yet ;) ), but of all the teams the Sox could be facing in the World Series, this would be one team I can admit I wouldn't be horribly disappointed to lose to. Having a kick ass end to the season and being WS virgins and all :p

ooh i see a Red Sox fan posting here ;)
well, I am officially a Rockies fan for the WS because my poor Indians got their tails whooped by the Red Sox and I'm bitter! Cleveland should've ended it at game 5, but the pitching was just not there...grrr. Boston definitely showed they wanted it more after the 4th game.

Go Rockies!

I tried forever to get tickets this morning and now the site has this message..

"This morning the Rockies' ticketing provider Paciolan experienced a system wide outage that is impacting all of their North American customers. They are working hard to resume service as soon as possible and apologize to their customers and all fans for this impact."

Good luck getting tickets today, everyone!

Here is my beef...I KNOW that this is the Rockies first WS. In fact, we've been no where close, but it just seems like no one is giving us any credit. I mean, come on the Sox are 2:1 favorites after we have won 20 of the last 21 games and haven't lost a game in the play offs???? Add to that that the Rockies won 2 of 3 games this season against the Red Sox. I know that experience means a lot and maybe the Sox should be favored, but not that heavily. Plus I watching the news this morning and a Boston news personality asked one of the Denver guys if they Rockies aren't very intimidated. Huh???? Come on, please give us some credit!!!

There, I'm done.
GO ROCKIES!!!

And that is exactly WHY the Red Sox are favored so heavily. Getting lucky with a winning streak isn't enough for me to put my money on the Rockies.

Though I will say I'm pretty impressed with your catcher - Torrealba? He really has the potential to develop into a great catcher.

Pixie: He is good, isn't he? :D

I do think they (you) should've been favored, but just not so heavily. It is just frustrating when none of the national media cares about your team or even knows much about them. I guess it takes a long time to gain respect.

No matter what, I am extremely proud of the purple guys. They had a comparison of the salaries of both teams in our paper and it was absolutely amazing. The Sox (http://www.sportscity.com/MLB/Boston-Red-Sox-Salaries) pay $143,523,714 in salaries and the Rockies (http://www.sportscity.com/MLB/Colorado-Rockies-Salaries)$53,274,000. That these two teams even play in the same league is mind boggling. I guess another good reason why the Red Sox are so heavily favored.

In anycase, let's hope the Rox can bring back the magic at Coors Field this weekend!

Keep in mind - the Rockies have only been in existence since - what was it - 1993? The average member of Red Sox Nation was inaugerated into the Nation long before the Rockies existed. I myself had already cried over 2 lost World Series championships long before the Rockies existed.

Then you've got ESPN based out of the Northeast - the midst of Yankees and Red Sox territory. So just based on convenience and logistics alone - they will be giving more coverage to Northeast teams. That is pretty tough to compete with.

Then add in sentiment - there are just more born and bred Red Sox fans that are going to bet on the Red Sox No.Matter.What. So with a statistical betting pool - where so much of the odds are based on how people are betting - the Red Sox are obviously going to be favored.

Hey girls, can I be an honorary fan? My Yankees lost, then my home state Diamondbacks lost, so I've been cheering for the Rockies ever since... They spring train here in Tucson, so I have a special place in my heart for them.

GO ROCKIES!!!

Totally agree with this. My paternal grandparents went to Red Sox games together when they were dating in the early 1940s. My father's father took my dad when he was a boy in the early 1960s. My dad took me to my first Sox game at Fenway when I was 6 and my little brother was 4. On the other side of my family, my maternal grandmother is a HUGE Boston sports fan (especially the Pats, but she can get pretty rowdy over the Sox too), and my much younger cousin's first ever crush on a boy was on Johnny Damon back before he turned to the "dark side". :p The Red Sox are woven into our family history in layers and layers. And so many of the other fans have similar family histories in regards to the Sox as a part of their lives. Add to that the vast number of people who just adopt them as their team of choice for whatever reason (like my Florida-born husband), and you have a huge, vast, and very sentimental Red Sox Nation. It definitely does take awhile to build that kind of legendary fan base.

But I also agree that it wouldn't be so bad at all to lose the Series to the Rockies. I usually like to root for the underdog when possible, so if it were any other team other than the Sox, I would definitely be rooting for the "Purple People"! Besides, purple is my favorite color! :D

pixielou-Not discounting the Sox fans at all. I think it is admirable the support for baseball in the area. Just me being cranky for my team.

Ah well, we got beat by a great team. I am still proud of them for making it so far. Who'd have thought we'd be sitting here at the begining of the season? :D

Well, GO BRONCOS!

Yes, indeed. I'm not much of a sports fan but my DH is a huge Red Sox fan and, so, was happy last night. But he's also a huge Broncos fan (not Patriots) for some reason - loved Elway, I think, way back when - and so that's who he'll be rooting for now! :)

the rockies were/are a great team. and a total class act. i was so impressed with your manager during the interview at the end of the game. the rockies definitely made the sox work for their win - nothing like 3 nail biting games in a row.
