I know Vitamin K helps the baby's blood to clot properly. And the ointment on the eyes is erythromycin and used to prevent eye infections. They were fairly routine and recommended by both my OB and my pediatrician, so I didn't do a ton of research on them. There was so much going on after DS was born, that I don't actually remember him getting the shot or anything.

(fyi, my DH is allergic to erythromycin, but the docs all agreed it was ok for DS to get the ointment.)
