Moving Company

Does anybody have a recommendation for a moving company to move about 700 miles?

I'm looking for the same thing, so I checked out epinions.com earlier this week -- looked like United Van Lines was the highest-rated big company (not counting car-moving companies) but even then, they only have three stars out of five. It seems like they work with local companies so that it's not actually UVL that moves you, but I'm not sure.

I just bumped a previous thread on this. I know there was another one too because I posted in it, but I can't find that one right now.

I've used Mayflower and had a HORRIBLE experience with them. They are a franchise operation and, well, let's just say their corporate office doesn't maintain a very tight control system. The group we used were total scheisters and when we went to corporate they were NO help whatsoever. It ended up involving an attorney, etc. Absolutely horrendous!

We have also used Graebel and they were fantastic. They did some packing for us and the move. They were professional and courteous. Not cheap, but worth it.

We used a local moving company as well and were very pleased with them as well.

Advice: Use a corporately-owned, non-franchise company OR a local company with a reputation to protect in your community. Keep records of EVERYTHING.
