After 14 years, the baseball fans in Philadelphia will venture into much desired territory:

PLAYOFFS!

I've noticed in the World Series thread that there are quite a few Phillies fans, so I thought I would create a place that we could come to and cheer on our boys and commiserate as needed!

Oooo...I wonder if it's too late. Probably.

Anyway, QOTD:

Who's your favorite player?

I have a hard time with this one. I find admirable things in many of the players. Perhaps that's why I'm really pulling for them this year. I actually think they deserve it! Among my favorites: Chase Utley, Aaron Rowand, Cole Hamels, Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino. If you MADE me narrow it down... I'd say tie between Utley and Rowand.

Yippee Phillies!!! I have loved them all my life and I'm so excited!! Still trying to buy tickets off of ebay (I was on in the "lottery" to get to buy them, got a second chance but there weren't any left! Still holding out hope for NLCS or World Series!)

Favorite player is very hard for me too! Probably Jimmy Rollins. I love J Roll! He is so awesome and consistent and I'm so glad he is finally getting recognition for it. Really hope it gets MVP. I also love Chris Coste & Jamie Moyer. And I definitely have a love/hate relationship with Pat Burrell!

I'm psyched. It sucks that the games are all during the workday though; WTF!!!! I think I would have rather seen us play San Diego, but I believe that we can beat the Rockies.

I like most of the players except Pat Burrell and most of the bullpen. Favorites are J Roll, Chase and Aaron. I was impressed that they all showed up at the pep rally yesterday. I am a bit superstitious though, and I wish Philly would stop having those rallies at City Hall. It has NEVER paid off for us. Hope the jinx will be broken though.

Gee, do I sound like a Philly fan who has been burned too often, or what???

Go Phils!

My favorite players are J Roll and Utley. I liked Utley as soon as he came on the team. I just new he would do well with the Phillies. He was a perfect fit and who doesn't like J Roll????!!!!

Almost forgot to mention...I really miss Jim Thome...he is still my favorite baseball player even though he no longer is a Philly.

WOOT! I'm so excited! I do wish, though, the Padres had won last night since I live in San Diego and could go see my Phils in the playoffs.:( Favorites: I love Utley.

My sister sent me this hilarious Cole Hamels love website (http://mysite.verizon.net/heyjude421/chf/allfacts.html). My favorite is "George Bush has done a 180 on his stance on stem cell research once he realized that without it there will be no Cole Hamel clones."

QOTD:
Did you watch the San Diego/Colorado game? If so, do you think the Halliday (sp?) was out or safe and why?

I think from the angles they showed that night, he was out. However, as Halliday comes across the bag with his hand, the catcher's foot moves as well. If Halliday gets his hand in there though, he's safe because the catcher drops the ball. What was even more interesting was that Halliday didn't try to go back. He either 1. Knew he had touched the bag. 2. Had the wherewithall to act like he knew he touched it. or 3. Had too much dirt in his mouth to try and go back.

That website is awesome! There are some really good ones, but the following has to be my favorite.

178.
Upon hearing an ignorant fan leading and E-A-G-L-E-S cheer at a Phillies game, Cole Hamels approached the man and told him that he had lost the respect of Cole Hamels. The man was paralyzed with shame and died of hunger 3 weeks later.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Eagles, but they are not the only team in Philadelphia. It drives me CRAZY to hear that cheer at Phillies games, expecially since the Eagles are 1 - 3! The worst is at concerts.

Rockies 4, Phillies 2 - Colorado leads 5 game series 1 - 0

This was not the start I wanted for the Phillies. Especially from Cole Hamels. I'm guarded now, but still holding out hope. I truly do not think it is a good idea to go to Colorado 0 - 2. However, stranger things have happened...Boston came back from 0 - 3 to win the remaining 4 games (some of them at Yankee Stadium) to take the American League Championship series in 2004.

0 - 2 hurts.

But if you needed another reason to love The Office, Ryan is named for Ryan Howard, who was once part of the Scranton farm team.

I was wondering about that last night when I was watching the show. Funny.

This is depressing. It's typical Phillies fashion though, so I can't say I'm surprised. We love comebacks though, so I won't give up hope. At least Chase started making some contact with the ball yesterday.

It's kind of funny sitting at work and hearing everyone individually react as the live scoring shows the updates.

Rockies 10, Phillies 5 - Colorado leads 5 game series 2 - 0

Going to Colorado behind 2 games and needing to win the next game in order to merely stay alive is not what fans hoped for. On the other hand, they don't call them the Fightin' Phils' for nothing. This is the team that went on a hot streak as the New York Mets imploded in order to clinch the division. A team that came back from injuries to some of their major contenders.

It doesn't hurt that Colorado is a hitters ballpark. Now that some of our boys are making contact, it's quite possible those balls will carry out. We just have to hope their pitching implodes and ours gets hot.

I won't even post the score or the story, because it's sad. The Phillies managed to lose in the first round of playoffs.

All we need to do is take 1 game. Just one out of 3. Come on boys! It looks like we'll be facing the Dodgers at this point...not sure how I feel about that.

I selfishly want us to play the Dodgers because I live in SoCal so I can see a game!
