Top hotels in Mexico - Le Meirdien Cancun anyone?

I was watching the travel channel with Dh and some friends when "Best hotels & beaches in Mexico" came on. We watched it and decided we wanted to go to Mexico for a long weekend. DH & I have both been to Cancun before ( B/M - before meeting & marriage) but the other couple has not.

Has anyone been to Le Meridien? It looked so great on the show and seems to have really nice reviews. I wanted to try some place else other than Cancun but because our friends love Le Meridien hotels in general that's where we are going.

I watched this on the travel channel too. I haven't stayed at the resort you mentioned but we just booked our vacation to the Riu Caribe through beachdestinations.com. It's not 5 star but we don't really want a stuffy environment, we just want to relax and have a good time on the beach.
