We're going to a bbq tomorrow, and I want to bring some kind of dip. I usually wimp out and just do a ranch dip (out of the dry packet from Hidden Valley) and veggie tray, but was wondering if anyone had any more creative ideas for dip.
Can't do the mexican bean dip, b/c my mom already called dibs on it!
Thanks! :)

This is the tastiest, easiest dip ever and my secret pot-luck weapon. Mix cream cheese and Cavender's greek seasoning, available at any grocery store, in a bowl/container--I microwave the CC first to soften it, then add spice to taste. I warn you, though--it's addictive!

I found this one on allrecipes.com and have made it a bunch of times - it's great!
Balsamic Dijon Dipping Sauce
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons white sugar
2 teaspoons water
1/4 cup Dijon-style prepared mustard
salt and pepper to taste
In a small mixing bowl, combine balsamic vinegar, sugar, water, mustard, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix well. If the consistency is too watery, add more mustard until the desired consistency is reached. Cover, and chill before serving.
*I like this one on veggies; on crunchy crackers, such as Triscuits; and also on sourdough bread.
I've only made this one twice, but it's been a hit each time:
Ginger Dipping Sauce
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
1/2 lemon, juiced
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon white vinegar
In a blender, combine onion, garlic, ginger, lemon juice, soy sauce, sugar, and vinegar. Process until smooth. Serve at room temperature.
*We used this on grilled shrimp and veggie kabobs.

Great ideas so far! I make something similar to msnicolea. I use cream cheese and mix beef bouillon together and microwave it. IT's really good :)

My mom always used to make clam dip, and it's delicious!
This recipe sounds similar to hers (we always made it with a food processer):
Clam Dip
Clam dip is one of my favorite comfort foods. Easy to make. Plenty of flavor. Yummy with either Ruffles or corn chips.
4 oz cream cheese
1 6.5 oz can minced clams
2 Tbsp reserved clam juice
1/4 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp sherry
1 Tbsp chopped parsley
2 Tbsp sour cream
1 tsp lemon juice
2 cloves pressed garlic
3 drops Worcestershire
1 tsp finely diced red onion
Drain the clams and reserve the liquid. Put the clams in a bowl big enough to mix everything and then add the rest of the ingredients. Only add two tablespoons of the clam juice, but save the rest as you may add more later.
Mash and mix everything up with a fork until it is smooth and well mixed. If it's to think, add more clam juice. The dip gets much of it's flavor from the juice rather than the clams, so don't be afraid to add a bit too much. But don't make it runny.
Chill and serve with chips.
What about artichoke dip? I can't think of the recipe but I think it's canned artichokes, mayonaise, parmasan cheese and green chiles.
Any dip with cream cheese would be yummy!

How about a fruit dip? I just made one last weekend and it was fabulous!
1 pack cream cheese, softened
1 jar marshmallow cream (found by the ice cream toppings)
cool whip or whipped cream
1/2 - 1 tsp. vanilla
orange peel
Serve it with fresh pineapple, grapes, and sliced apples. Highly yummy and SUPER easy...
I have three that are really good. I forget where I got the first two.
Spinach & Artichoke Dip -- Restaurant Style
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Makes 12 servings.
Ingredients:
1 (10 ounce) package frozen spinach (I've used canned spinach and it tastes equally good!)
1 (14 ounce) cana artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
1 (10 ounce) container Alfredo pasta sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella
1/3 cup grated Parmesan (or you can pick up the "Italian cheese" mix that has both the Mozzarella and Parmesan in it)
package cream cheese, softened (pop it in the microwave for 20 seconds)
2 cloves of garlic (optional)
Directions:
1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2) Place garlic in a baking dish and bake 25 mins, until soft (OPTIONAL STEP...I sometimes skip the garlic. When cool enough to touch, squeeze softened garlic from skins.
3)In a 8x8 baking dish, mix ALL the ingredients.
4) Cover and bake in the preheated over for 30 mins, or until cheeses are melted and bubble.
Serve warm.

Mix first 4 ingredients and put into a sprayed quiche dish. Cover with

Thanks for all the awesome suggestions!
I ended up going with singerwife's goat cheese and pesto recipe - so easy and I love goat cheese! Roasted some red peppers for the top and got some yummy crackers. It was a hit at the bbq.
I am now busily trying to figure out just how many dips I can get away with serving at my daughter's b-day party in a few weeks, because all of these recipes sound so good! :D

Yay! So glad to help!
If you liked that one, you might also like my second favorite. It's basically just a large hunk of parmesan cheese, food processed with olive oil and herbs (I like basil) until smooth. Very, very easy!

Shrimp Dip
1-8 oz Package of cream cheese
1 jar of cocktail sauce
1 package of small shrimp (maybe canned, can't remember)
My mom always used to make this when I was younger, haven't had it forever, but it sounds really good right now.
She always used to take a pie tin and press the cream cheese into the bottom. Then she would spread the cocktail sauce over it, and sprinkle with the shrimp.
We mainly used bugles to dip it out.....
I may have to make this now! :p
eta: I realize it's too late, but somebody might find this appetizing!

My secret dip trick? My friend has a company called Entertain with Ease and they sell these dried packets for sundried tomato dip. You mix the packet with either cream cheese or soft goat cheese and it is so simple and delicious. She has a website with lots of great products you can order.

Ok my dip secret is actually for fruit, but I will still post it.
Take a large container of Cool Whip (low fat kind works as well) and add a package of instant bannan pouding. It works best is the Cool Whip is not frozen and only add small amount of the pouding powder at a time.

White Bean Dip with Pita Chips
INGREDIENTS:
1 (15-ounce) can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
2 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup olive oil, plus 4 tablespoons
1/4 cup (loosely packed) fresh Italian parsley leaves
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
6 pitas
1 teaspoon dried oregano

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Place the beans, garlic, lemon juice, 1/3 cup olive oil, and parsley in the work bowl of a food processor. Pulse until the mixture is coarsely chopped. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Transfer the bean puree to a small bowl.

Serve the pita toasts warm or at room temperature alongside the bean puree.

I recently made a dip that everybody raved about. I totally winged it, but it came out great.
Smoked Salmon Dip
1 pkg lite cream cheese, softened
1 container FF sour cream
8 oz. smoked salmon (approx -- it was stuff my dad smoked)
1 pkg Knorr onion & chive dip mix
dill weed (I just dumped some in there -- I don't know what the quantity was)
I put it all in the food processor and whirred it together, and then put it in the refrigerator overnight. I served it with both crackers and veggies, and it was a hit. :)

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I wound up making 2 dips. One was the cream cheese and salsa, it just seems so simple, and when I was making it Icouldn't help but steal a bite and it was. :) Then I made a garlic herb dip with cream cheese, it was a packet of dried mix that my mom had gotten me, yummy.
Then I made striped chocolate popcorn. It had milk and white chocolate, pretzels and roasted pecans mixed in with popcorn. I was trying to think of soemthing the kids would enjoy too.
I'm thinking of making the smoked salmon dip next time.

I recently found a new dip recipe that has been the hit of a few get-togethers.
Mexican Corn Dip
8 oz. mayo
8oz. sour cream
1 can diced tomatoes & chilies, drained
1 small can of mexican style corn (the one with peppers), drained
2 c. grated cheese (I like a mexican blend)
Mix & chill. Serve with tortillas chips.
**the best thing, this makes a pretty big batch.

MrsJackson05's shrimp dip reminded me of my mom's crab dip:
Crab Dip
Jar Cocktail Sauce
Package imitation crab meat (unless you have time to shell your own)
Block of Cream Cheese
Package Ranch Dressing Seasoning
Mix Cream Cheese and ranch dressing seasoning to taste (I don't always use the whole packet). Spread on a dish. Layer the cocktail sauce on top (you might not use the whole jar). Spread crab meat on top. Serve with wheat thins and other cracker assortment.
Taco Dip
can bean dip
sour cream
taco seasoning packet
cheddar cheese
green onions
diced tomatoes
sliced black olives
Mix bean dip, sour cream and taco seasoning packet in a medium bowl. If I can't find the bean dip, I use about half a can of refried beans. I spread mine on a cookie sheet. Layer shredded cheese on top and then top with green onions, tomatoes, and olives. Serve with bite size tortilla chips.

I know I have more dip recipes but can't think of any others off the top of my head. Glad to know we have this thread to reference back to!

Does guacamole count as a dip? It's incredibly easy to make:
Peel and dice ripe avocados. Add some diced onion and tomato, and mash together with a fork. Mix in fresh lemon juice, garlic powder, salt to taste - voila!
Then you could serve with tortilla chips and a ready-made salsa as well.

For Easter my friend served a great dip!
I don't have the exact recipe but it goes something like this:
Cream cheese
Cranberries
Pecans
Orange juice (add a little at a time - so the dip doesn't get runny)
Mix together and served with Rosemary Triscuits
It was so yummy and refreshing!

I have a great one -but it's more of a spread than a dip. I got it from a cooking class I took about 10 years ago. It’s a little more involved than my fave Lipton’s onion soup mix in sour cream but it’s not too hard and the presentation is beautiful! I bring it often to baby / wedding showers because it’s so pretty.
Pesto Provolone
Pesto Ingredients
2 cloves minced garlic
1/2 cup olive oil
1 cup fresh bail
1 cup grated parmesan
Blend all ingredients in food processor and refrigerate.
GarlicCream
8 oz cream cheese
1/2 stick butter
1/2 shelled roasted pistachio nuts ( I buy them like this in the grocery store / trader joe’s)
Black pepper to taste
Blend all ingredients in food processor.
** So, I never figured out why it's called garlic cream and there's no garlic added! I added garlic once to see if it's missing and IMO it's not necessary
1/2 lb to 3/4 lb thinly sliced provolone. (I ask for it cut as thinly as possible at the deli counter)
1 cup of sun-dried tomatoes in oil – chopped and drained.
Assembly
1. Line Pyrex meatloaf pan with damp cheesecloth. Let excess cheesecloth hang over sides (you’ll need enough excess to cover the dip)
2. Make inverted basil flower in center on top of cheesecloth (you’ll eventually flip this over, so the flower will be on the top of the spread. I take 3 basil leaves and arrange them with their points touching in the center.
3. Line bottom with layer of provolone (on top of flower)
4. Spread 1/2 pesto on top of provolone
5. 2nd layer of provolone on top of pesto
6. Spread 1/2 of sun dried tomatoes on top of provolone
7. spread all of garlic cream on top of tomatoes
8. 3rd layer of provolone cheese
9. Spread remaining pesto
10. Last layer of provolone
11. Fold cheese cloth over the top and press down. Refrigerate
Serve with sliced baguette.
As I typed all this out, I thought – oh jeez, this has too many steps ... but it's not as bad as it looks.

Hummus is totally easy too. I make my by taste, but this close:
1 can chickpeas, drained
juice of 1/2 lemon
1 or 2 cloves garlic
salt
1 T tahini
sprinkle of paprika on top
Blend until smooth (add a little water if it seems too thick) and let sit for an hour or so until the flavors blend. Great with crackers, pita, veggies.

One yummy dip that gets a lot of recipe requests is what we creatively call "apple dip" - it's served with apples!
8 oz cream cheese
1/2-3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 - 1 1/4 cups Heath Bar brickle
Mix all of the ingredients together and serve with sliced apples. I slice the apples then dip them in lemon juice to keep them from turning brown. The measurements are approximations because I've made it so many times that I don't use a recipe, I just mix it all to taste - but that's a starting point, at least!

Also, one of my favorite cheese dip recipes:
Jarlsberg Dip
