Where is the best on-line site to book our vacation to Cancun for next August. The airline rates and schedules just came out so I am ready to book. So far I have looked at:
applevacations
beachdestinations.com
expedia
travelocity
any others I might be missing?

Priceline? Orbitz?
More often than not you can get the best rates by going directly to the airline's site, too.

Just last month I booked my fourth trip to Mexico. Here are my experiences:
Trip #1 (2002) - I spoke with a local travel agent who booked through Apple Vacations. Note: if you book through Apple, you must chose a travel agent, even when doing it online.
Trip #2 - (2003) Booked through Apple's website and picked up the documents with local travel agent.
Trip #3 - (2005) Priced everything separately and found it was cheaper to book charter flight separately for the exact same flight. Very odd. Booked resort through Apple, which had partial ownership of resort, and the transfer from airport to resort included.
Trip #3 - (2007) I was reminded of a travel agent who is very active on the playa.info forums and emailed her. I ended up booking a trip through her. Apple didn't carry the resort we selected so she booked the trip through funjet. I checked the prices directly and her prices weren't any higher, plus she gave EXCELLENT service.
Which resorts are you considering?

In addition to the sites you've already listed, I would suggest checking out Pleasant Holidays (http://www.pleasantholidays.com/PleasantHolidaysWeb/Welcome.do) and Classic Vacations (http://www.classicvacations.com/mexico/). The airlines' websites also regularly lists packages and specials. Definitely check in with a travel agent, as well. For a destination like Mexico, they can get you the same rates you'll find online with a lot less hassle and legwork on your part.

We would like to stay at riu cancun, we visited it last time we were there and loved it. So far the best deal we could find was through beachdestinations.com, travel agents haven't been able to match the price. I will try booking seperately though and see what happens, thanks.

has anyone ever booked directly through mexicana airlines? I'm getting a super low rate but am a little uncertain about booking directly through them.

I am so pleased with myself. I booked our vacation last Tuesday I think with beachdestinations.com and I just looked up the same package and it is $500 more right now than when I booked:eek: Thank goodness we did it then:D
