On Oprah, Dr. Oz reccomended that you store Olive Oil in the frdge, because otherwise it can go rancid. HHmmm?I'd never heard of that before, and it even says on the bottle to keep at room temperature?

Anyone out there keep olive oil in the fridge?

No. We keep ours room temp and we use it so often it gets used up quickly and wouldn't have a chance to get rancid (which I've never heard of).

I think putting it in the fridge would mess with the flavors. Unless you rarely use it and a bottle would last for years, I would not do it.

Olive oil congeals in the fridge - so if you kept it there you'd have to warm it up every time you wanted to use it.

Nope. I've never heard of refridgerating it. Like above, we use enough that it woudn't have time to go bad anyway. But even when I lived by myself, I don't ever remember having an issue with it turning.

I have only heard of refrigerating it from my mother. We don't though.

No. But I keep it in a cool, dark cupboard. I definitely wouldn't let it sit out on the counter in the sun.

No way. It ruins the oil. It's like taking a bottle of wine in and out of the fridge multiple times.

If you cannot use up the oil in a short amount of time (I'd say 2-3 months max), buy a smaller bottle.

I keep my olive oil in the fridge. It can and does go rancid when exposed to light and heat. Any oil will go rancid, wich is why things like nuts should also be refridgerated. I keep a small bottle on the counter which I refill from the large bottle in the fridge from time to time. Your oil will solidify but it's easy to scoop out what you need with a spoon, there is no need to heat it up to use it as it quickly reverts to a liquid at room temp..

Yeah, a definite no way here too. I buy a 2L jug probably 2 or 3 times a year? I do keep it in a cupboard with no direct light or heat. I've never had a problem with it.

i've never heard of storing it in the fridge. we leave ours in a glasser bottle with a pour spout on it for easy use. It takes several months to go through the olive oil-but it's never gone bad on us. What do you mean by going "rancid?" like....it tastes sour, or turns colors, has a funny odor when it cooks, etc?

I found these two links to have very good explanations of the properties or an proper care for olive oil.

Link 1 (http://www.hormel.com/templates/knowledge/knowledge.asp?catitemid=40&id=190)
Link 2 (http://www.oliveoilsource.com/olive_oil_storage.htm)

An important note from both sources is that while the oil will eventually go rancid, this doesn't mean it's not still safe to use. It simply means the flavor has changed.

We don't keep any kind of oil in the fridge.

No. I use Olive Oil all the time. It doesn't sit around long enough to go rancid.

I keep mine on the counter next to the stove. I use it too often for it to possibly go rancid.
