Open for Posting!!
It took a lot of work to merge the two threads and a lot of cutting and pasting. I hope I didn't miss any info in doing so. If some info did get loss by accident please post it again in RED.
Also I thought it would be fun to post stats of our babies as they grow. So if you like please post the stats of your little ones in RED. If it gets to be too much work we can always delete it from the front page later. Also I have most of the August Mom's Newborn Stats, but I don't have the July Mom's. So all you July Mommies if you want your Babies Newborn Stats posted on the front page please that in RED also.
Happy Posting!!

Thanks for doing this Tenny! Whew - a lot of work on your part - much appreciated!
Seth was 7 pounds, 8.6 ounces at birth, 19 1/4 inches. At 5 1/2 weeks (1 month, 1 week) he was 9 pounds, 14 ounces, and 22.5 inches long.
I always read along in the August thread so it will be fun to have the 2 threads combined! Look forward to hearing about everyone's babies!

Thanks for the new thread!!
Liam is doing great -- eating and sleeping well. I guess what everyone kept telling me when I was pregnant -- that "big babies are easier, they take care of themselves" -- is true. (Nice that I get some pay-off after carrying what looked like a zeppelin around in my abdomen for those last couple of months!) My MIL is out visiting for 4 days... it's nice to see her, but it'll be nice to get back to just the 3 of us in a few days, too. My dogs are doing much better with the baby than I would have anticipated. I thought they'd be jealous or weird, but they seem to love him -- especially one of them, who seems to think it's her job to make sure he's okay at all times. They look so worried when he cries!
Threadmistress: Could you please change Liam's birthday from August 30 to August 29? Thanks!
Bathing: We are still waiting for the umbilicus to fall off, but have given him one bath (kept it dry) and done another spongebath... How often do you all bathe your little ones? It doesn't really seem like he needs much bathing, and I don't want to dry him out unnecessarily... nor do I want to be neglectful. What are you all doing?

Silentbunny - Liam was born on my anniversary - good date ;) A friend of ours had her DS the same day as well.
Re: bathing - we're not doing it often enough! It's been 1 - 2x/week but I want to start getting a bedtime routine going (we've been delinquent in that respect) and incorporate the bath.

Thanks for the new thread! It looks great!
Bathing - I bathe DD once a week. If she gets dirty more often than that, I'll do a sponge bath. Soon I'll start trying to do twice a week, but I don't forsee us going any more often than that. (Our 16 month old DS still only gets a bath twice a week or so.)

RobynScott I glad you like the new thread. I have been working on it a little bit at a time for the past several days. I copied the formats from the thread into word docs and have been cutting and pasting in there until it was all ready. I have been lurking in the July thread too so it will be nice to chat along with you ladies!!
silentbunny Glad all is going well. I agree it is nice to have company, but also nice when they leave.
purplevega I saw your pictures of your two boys in the August thread and they are so cute. I still need to go get some pro pictures done of my boys. I wish I would have done it right away like you!
Bathing We give DS#1 a bath ever other night so we just go ahead and give DS#2 a bath while we are at it. DS#2 doesn't get real dirty, but he does get what we like to call "neck cheese" in his little rolls.
All is going well over here. I think Charlie was have a growth spurt last week because he was waking up in the middle of the night way more then he usual does, but he is back to his normal schedule, which I'm very thankful for.

Checking in for the shinny new thread. Good job TM's, and thanks for having us, August Moms. Looking forward to getting to know y'all.
I know in the old thread there were a bunch of posts about crying/fussy babies, and let me just say I know how you feel! Our girls were both diagnosed with colic a few weeks ago, it's been fun. Things that have helped us are gas drops with every bottle, the vibrate on the bouncers, and bouncing them while walking.
Also wanted to answer Kyms question about vaxing. Right now I am pretty sure we will be vaxing on schedule. I know you specifically mentioned the MMR and the chicken pox vax, both of which they don't get until after 12 months, so I figure I still have plenty of time to make a decision on those.
Bathing We started out doing it twice a week, but now we do every other day. I don't know how they do it, but my girls can get pretty dirty, lol.
Things with us have been good. Megan and Natalie are both smiling and cooing and really starting to interact more. And we've managed a 5 hour stretch of sleep every night for about a week. I hope it keeps up. I think they're headed into a growth spurt though, they've been wanting to eat all day long the past few days.
Stat update:
Megan:
Birth: 3lbs, 14.8oz, 17 1/4 in
1 month: 5lbs, 11.5oz, 17 7/8 in
Natalie:
Birth: 4lbs, 4.9oz, 16 3/4 in
1 month: 5lbs, 12.5oz, 18 1/4in

Hey girls! We’ve been on vacation for a couple of weeks so I am just now getting to check in.
We are all doing great. Audrey is healthy, happy and very very chubby! I am loving having a chubby baby!! She goes in for her 2 month appt and shots next Monday. I am anxious to see what they say about her weight and percentiles!
We are still exclusively breastfeeding. I took my older daughter to see Lion King yesterday in Memphis (about an hour away plus the three hour show) and Audrey was kept by my best friend. She was finally able to get her to take some expressed BM from a bottle, although I’ve not had a bit of luck with formula (not even once) and only a little luck with DH giving her BM in a bottle. I go back to work part time in October and I am really hoping that we can get this all worked out. I am not sure how much milk I can freeze by then. I don’t have much of a stash right now.
Florida was great. Audrey had a heat rash so all the adults (DH, MIL & myself) took turns staying upstairs. The flight was an hour each way and she never even woke up one second of it either way. I was nervous about Bfing on the plane but it was no big deal, especially since we took up our whole isle.
She is a very happy baby. We barely know what her cry sounds like. She’ll kinda yelp out and then she gets what she wants (LOL!) and she is back to fine. No crying. She loves her bouncy seats and loves baths and showers. Oh and ceiling fans to her are the funniest things in the world. She is starting to laugh and coo and make little talking noises that are so sweet and so cute!
She is still sleeping a lot. I am just guessing her, but in a span of 24 hours, I’d say she is still asleep around 19 hours of that. The doctor says not to worry but it’s hard. She has her days and nights mixed up still and she’s awake 4am-6am just about every night. No way is she sleeping through the night. Take last night for example. Down at 9. She slept 9-11, ate from 11 – 11:30, slept until 2:30, up until 3 and then up from about 4:30 –6:00, then back down until about 9. I am doing everything to keep her up more during the day but she’s so sleepy from the night before. Any suggestions?
My DH is having a vasectomy on Thursday so our two girls are going to be it for us. We totally feel like we’ve completed our family and we couldn’t ask for anything more. I guess that answers both the other kid and the BC questions!
Yes, we’ve gotten a Halloween costume, but it’s top secret! ;)
No on AF but I am Bfing and hope it’ll keep her away a while still yet.
No socks are shoes yet, but it’s been 90-100 here everyday since she was born. We all are wearing as little clothing as possible.
I can’t think of anything off the top of my head that we aren’t using other than the crib! LOL! (She co-sleeps). We are going to work on that, though. I co-slept with my oldest until she was nearly a year old and swore I wouldn’t do it again, but it’s just so damn easy, especially while Bfing all freaking night long.
Oh and I have a sling and I've only used it a few times, but it was a lifesaver at the airport.

Birth: 5 pounds 14 ounces 18.75 inches
1 month: 7 pounds 5 ounces 19.75 inches
Tenny: DD gets that neck cheese stuff too. I didn't know how to describe it until you said that - perfect phrase for it.
Bathing: I give DD a bath every other morning. I bath her during the day now b/c it gives me something to do with her. In the next month or so I would like to incorporate a bath into a bedtime routine. Allison spits up breastmilk alot. Its not so much puking as it seems she holds milk in her mouth then lets it all come out mixed with drool and saliva all over her neck and chest and me most of time!

Tenny-Thanks for the new thread! You did a great job. I pm'ed the August Mommies ID about getting the July Mommie TM's log in info so we can help you out!!
j2478-You posted in the other thread about fussiness and your story hit home with me!! We spend lots of time with family and on the days we do getting him to sleep is a nightmare normally. Luckily even though we were with family today he napped. I didn't give the family much choice but to hand him over so he could sleep. I am getting much more vocal about what I want in regards to him! I also know how you feel about your brother. We have a friend that does that. Ugh makes me so upset. She always says our baby never cried like that. It does make one feel awful.
Bathing-Once or twice a week. Though this is to my MIL's dispise:p! She always says he smells like spit up...thanks thats what we like...him to smell like baby not lotion!
mel-Glad to hear you had a good time in Florida! I am curious about your Halloween outfit now!
Kym-Vaxing-I *think* we will do all. But I debate about the chicken pox. All the little ones in my husbands family who got the shot still got chicken pox(I found it on one when I was babysitting them...then checked the rest and started calling parents! None believed me till they showed up to get them!)
Well our life has been completely different since we switched formula. I know I said that before but I cant get over HOW different it is. He is happy and smiley and just so much different now. We switched from Similac to Enfamil Gentlease(someone aked I can't remember who!). Our dr. recommened it. It has 1/4 the milk protein of normal formula. We are still BFing too though I know I said my supply was up but now it seems down...I am afraid I my be getting ready to have AF since I don't BF fulltime. Oh here are our stats...
N/B stats: 7lbs 9ozs, 21 inches

Tenny, THANK YOU for the shiny new thread!
I was supposed to be an Aug mommy but squeaked by as a late July mommy, so I always lurked in the July thread. :)
bathing--we give her a full bath 2 or 3 times/week. However, we tend to do a "butt bath" whenever she has a big poopy diaper (this was something my mom told us to do) So far, she hasn't had any diaper rash, so it works!
vaxing-- we plan to follow the schedule for the most part. I am undecided about CP, mainly b/c it's fairly new, and the immunity is not lifelong.

Katie&Micah I think its wonderful that you are donating your breastmilk like that, what a great gesture that is. Can I ask, how often do you pump during the day? I am exclusively pumping and feeding it via a bottle and I never get ahead enough to freeze anything. I usually have about 7-10 feedings worth of BM in my fridge, which isn't bad, but I'd love to build up a stash. What am I doing wrong? When I pump, I get about 5-7 ounces total combined between right and left breast.
I pump every 3 to 4 hours. The most I can go is 5 hours and then it gets EXTREMELY painful and lumpy and just gross. I get between 8 and 9 oz per pumping session. Is there a reason why you're keeping so much milk in your fridge? I only keep one feeding in the fridge at a time and the rest goes into the freezer. Well.. mostly. I freeze in 6 oz increments so after I take out the 4oz for her bottle I'll throw the other 4 or 5 oz in a Avent Via container in the fridge and the next time I pump I"ll fill it the rest of the way freeze that and start again. Kristianna is eating more per feeding than Madeline, so maybe that's why you're having trouble building a stash. Good luck!
We won't have 1 month stats, because we don't go see the ped until 2 months, so you can just erase that line of mine in my stats.

LDS Angel, Lovelife, & Allieannie: I am so glad you guys responded to my post about the fussiness. It's so hard when you think it is just specific to your baby and wonder what is wrong. Esp. like I said in my other post when you have in-laws telling you their kids never fussed, cried, etc like yours does. Allison is fussy when she is tired and she fights to stay awake, not so much during the day but at night. But I take the good with the bad. She is very alert and smily when she is awake and she sleeps two 5 hour periods overnight just waking up once around 3:00 to eat. So evening fussiness is just something we have just learned to live with. Do you guys have any tricks to share that calms your LO's down?

vaxing- we will be vaxing on schedule. I feel it is best since the boys will both be in day care when I go back to work in October (part time than full after Jan) I was holding off on the chicken pox shot but our new family doc really reccommends it b/c of day care. He understands my concerns. Didn't make me feel bad about holding out. Not sure if they will get the flu shot. I have missed it the last few years and have been fine...
baths- once to twice a week. we just hold him in the kitchen sink. so much easier than getting out the baby bath tub every time. DS #1 typically hops in the shower with DH 3-4 times a week. loves his bath. plus I count the pool as a bit of a bath... ;)
BF-ing- is going great. need to start pumping to get some supply for day care so we do'nt have to supplement (want to save a bit of money.) My left side does not produce as much as my right. any thoughts on how to get the left to step up and make more...

My left side does not produce as much as my right. any thoughts on how to get the left to step up and make more...
I've heard it's quite common for one to produce more than the other and there isn't really anything you can do about it. But maybe someone else here has some experience with that. Like I said this is only what I've heard.
We give Madeline baths twice a week. I thought I was being a bit lazy about that. I'm glad to know most everyone else is doing the same.

So evening fussiness is just something we have just learned to live with. Do you guys have any tricks to share that calms your LO's down?
j2478--have you tried wearing your babe? Natalie is a lot like your DD--at night, she is obviously tired but fights to stay awake and is super fussy. I found that if I pop her into my Babyhawk carrier, she calms down enough so that she can fall asleep. The baby carrier thread here on CC is a great resource. The other method, which we discovered last weekend, is to take her for a drive. Usually we drive to Barnes and Noble, she'll be asleep before we even get there, and stay asleep while browse. When we get home, she's in deep enough sleep that I can move her to her crib and she stays asleep.
Lisa--I'm the same way. Lefty is not producing as much as Righty. I've tried to do breast compressions on Lefty while I pump, but they still aren't equal producers. Maybe in time everything will regulate?

I'm also glad to hear DH and I are not totally delinquent on the lack of daily baths!
Fussiness - we've had quite a bit of that around here! I think a lot of it is due to DS being overtired - I think (hope) I am finally starting to read his cues a little better - and maybe it just helps that he's getting older?
We've had 2 good sleep nights - last night he went down at 8:30 (last feeding had started at 6:30) and didn't wake up till 11:45. He then slept again till around 4 - this was HUGE for us.
He's nursing a lot today - nursed for nearly 1 hour on one breast before - whoa! I don't think he even did that when he was a newborn!
Other than that, things are going well. I have him chilling in his bouncer right now trying to decide what we are going to do today.
I can't believe he will be 8 weeks tomorrow - where is my little newborn?!? Much as I am enjoying the increased sleep, I can't believe he's growing up so fast!
Hope everyone is doing well. And to all of us with fussy / non-sleeping babies, you're (we're) not alone!
Time to figure out some plans for today.
Anyone want to post their daily schedule / ideas for things to do? (it's so humid I don't think I want to walk now)
Have a great day everyone!
ETA - ditto polarama on the baby-wearing. Unfortunately, our DS wakes up as soon as he is out of the pouch/wrap (and it's the only way I can get him to sleep during the day)
Last night, instead of wearing him I was able to rock him to sleep in the glider - I never thought it would work, but I could see he was tired so I tried. It took a while - but I'm glad I didn't give up too quickly. It might work better than you think.
QOTD-Do you have a nap routine? If so what is it?
I have been horrible at this with my kids and I pay down the road. I want to change it now so it wont bit me in the butt later.:p
Katie&Micah
09-10-2007, 10:22 AM
Anyone want to post their daily schedule / ideas for things to do?
6:30 or 7:00--Wake up, eat and get dressed.
8:00-9:00--Take a walk.
9:00-9:30--Take a shower and get dressed while Maddy hangs out in her stroller.
9:30 or 10:00--Feed Maddy again and lay her down for a nap.
10:00-12:00 or 12:30--I clean the house while she sleeps.
12:30-2:30--We hang out with Daddy and nurse while watching t.v. Then DH leaves for work.
2:30-3:30--We play together, sometimes take a nap together if I'm really tired, or just hang out and talk to each other (Yes she does talk back! lol).
3:30-6:30--Feed her again and lay her down for her 2nd nap.
6:30-7:30--I wear her in the sling while I cook dinner and then DH comes home for lunch and we eat together.
7:30-8:30--We watch 2 episodes of Scrubs and nurse on the couch.
8:30-9:00--If it's bath day I'll give her a bath now. If not she'll do tummy time on the activity mat, sit in her bouncer or lay in the crib and stare at the Rainforest Waterfall thing that hangs on her crib.
9:00-10:00--She usually hangs out in her bassinet while I clean up the house some more.
10:00 or 10:30--We go to bed.
1:30--She wakes up to eat.
2:00-4:30--Sleep.
4:30-5:00--She wakes up to eat again.
5:00-7:00--Sleep.
As you can see we're pretty boring. But I like to be at home and our schedule gets thrown WAY off if we have a day where we do things differently. On Thursdays we spend several hours shopping and running errands. And every other weekend we drive 3 hours to my parent's house and stay for the weekend. But other than that we don't leave the house much. We don't live in an area where there is anything to do anyways though..

QOTD-Do you have a nap routine? If so what is it?
We tend to nap at the same time every day. And she always eats first and then lays down. But that's about it as far as a routine. I let her put herself to sleep, but I lay her down when she's groggy.

Yay, thanks for the new thread!! I also lurked in the July mommies thread, so this is perfect that we're now combined. :D
Stats:
Newborn: 8 lbs. 10 oz., 20 inches
1-month: 10 lbs. 13 oz., 22 inches
My left side does not produce as much as my right. any thoughts on how to get the left to step up and make more...
I have this problem, too. Sounds like it's fairly common. Here's an article from kellymom.com about it. (http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/lopsided.html) Basically, if it doesn't bother you, it's not a big deal, and your body will produce enough milk for baby. But that article has some suggestions for evening yourself out, if you want.
Katie ~ That is great that you have a schedule! You sound way more productive in your day than I am. I'd like to develop more of a schedule, but mostly, it's just survival mode for me. Feed and hold baby. :)

I was never concerned or diligent about creating the schedule, it just sort of fell into place. But I'm the kind of person that likes schedules and order, so I assume that was natural that it would happen.

Elena is gorgeous! My cousin had a little girl on July 12th that she named Elena Renee. I'm curious, what middle name did you choose?
Martha- she is just beautiful! COngrats!
Katie- good schedule thanks for posting. A has to be in his swing to take a nap. At night he isnt like that though.
Kym- is K doing better with the fussiness?
Well I have had volleyball everyday and my little guy has been amazing. I came home last ngiht and he was up and cooing. Ilove it. I think I forgot how much I love this stage. He slept 5 hours straight last night. Thats was nice. He has his 2 month check up tomorrow. So here come the shots:( Okay I have laundry, mopping and to workout before he gets up.

We have a pretty good schedule, but DD isn't really the driving force behind it. She just kind of gets worked in our various activities. I feed her and put her down for naps as I can.
We are generally up by 7:00, and we're out the door by 9:00. On Mon, Wed, and Fri, we head to the mall and go walking for a while. On Tues and Thurs, I take DS to MDO and DD and I go walk the mall.
DS naps from 11:30 until 2:00, so I usually try to get DD down for part of that time and have some time to myself. Most days I can get an hour or two in to nap or read or whatever it is I want to do.
We usually go somewhere again after our afternoon nap for an hour or two. Sometimes it's somewhere fun, like the library. Sometimes it's boring, like the grocery store. But we go somewhere every day.
Dinner is at 6:00. DS goes to bed between 7:30 and 9:00, depending on the day. I try to get DD in bed around 10:00. (It seems silly to call it that, because she sleeps all day. But at 10:00, we're working on getting her in pajamas and asleep in her bed.)

Routines... Reading everyone's routines really has me down. We haven't really established a good daytime routine. I just kind of go with the flow. I feed him when he's hungry and put him to sleep when he falls asleep. He is 5 weeks old today...should I try establishing a routine?? Its hard too bc when he falls asleep (on me) and when I go to move him, he wakes up. So I basically have to stay laying in bed or on the couch while he sleeps so I never get anything done around the house. And when he is awake, he needs to be held. Doesn't like tummy time or laying in his bouncer. The only time he goes in his bouncer or swing is if I put a paci in his mouth and that doesnt last very long.
Any ideas?
Also, please tell me sleeping will get better at night?? He still wakes up every 2 hours...I need some freaking sleep!
Last night I cried bc he was sooo fussy and just wouldn't go to sleep. I have tried establishing a good bedtime routine and tried to put him to sleep at 8:30pm (bc he was tired). He fell right asleep as I rocked him. I rocked him for a good half hour and put him in his bassinet. As oon as his head his the matress...he was WIDE awake. I grabbed him and tried rcking him again for 45 minutes. The whole time he was crying/fussing/couldn't get comfy. I tried everything! I startec rying bc I was so frustrated but felt awful bc I know its not his fault. I finally went downstairs with him and played with him and then he went to sleep on me.

We didn't have a routine until probably 7 weeks. Up until then I was a bit jealous of everyone else who already had one. I always just did what she wanted to do when she wanted to do it. But eventually things fell into a pattern on their own. Give it a little more time.
As far as the bouncer. Madeline screamed bloody murder every time we tried to put her in it. I gave up on it and then pulled it out last week because I was trying to get rid of some of her stuff. I figured I should try it one more time and she loved it! She will only hang out in it for 15 or 20 minutes. But 15 mins to take a shower w/o her screaming is awesome! You might try it again in a couple weeks and see if he's changed his mind.
In our experience the sleep gets better and worse all the time. I thought I had it made when she slept for 7+ hours 3 nights in a row. But since then we've gone back to every 2 hour wakings mixed in with some 4 or 5 hour stretches. I've learned to not count on anything. She seems pretty consistent right now, but that could and probably will change in a few weeks.

bensgirl1222 - Don't stress about the routine. You can see that mine's not very developed. And it actually only exists because I have an older child who needs some sort of expectation of what's going to happen throughout the day or he goes crazy. I think that at 5 weeks, babies need exactly what you're giving your DS.

Thanks for the new thread!!! it is great. It is sort of funny that we have babies that range in age from almost 3 months to just a few weeks!!
I don't have a lot of time.. I am trying to pack. I am off on our first plane flight tomorrow with DS2. We are flying to WI to see my family. I hope DS doesn't freakout the whole flight. Hopefully flying to WI on a wed. isn't the most popular, and I will have an extra seat to spread out!
Things are getting so much better. DS is actually wiling to be awake and NOT crying!! This is HUGE for us!!! He is chillin' in his bouncer right now... he has only slept for like 20 minutes today!! I need a break (granted, I should count my blessings, he isn't screaming!!)
Katie- I remember reading that you take a bath with your baby. I am not sure, but I swear I read somewhere that you can get UTIs from bathing with your child. I think it is cause they often pee in the water. Might be something you want to research online.
I forget who asked, but calming a fussy baby you might try "baby superman" (as we call it) holding the baby face down over your forearm, supporting their head with your hand. My DS1 LOVED this position (as he got older/bigger it was a killer and only DH could do it). You can try taking the baby outside, that often worked for us. (at one point we put his highchair on the porch to feed him.) they like the fresh air. with DS2 I have found that he is a shoulder baby, I have to get his arms over my shoulder and hold him there, he LOVES it, often falls asleep. I guess you just have to find out what your baby likes. (my husband would take DS1 to the basement for an "adventure" DS loved it, granted he was a bit older, like 1, but it always calmed him down!)
I am such a baby mommy, I put DS to sleep on his stomach. It is the only way he will sleep. I HATE HATE HATE doing it, but we all have to get sleep. I don't mind doing it for naps, since I am here, but I hate doing it at night. I can't wait until he is rolling over, and I will feel better about him being a belly sleeper.
My babe is going to the dr. next week for his 2 month check up. I am guessing he is about 15 pounds. He is such a chunk!!! But he is also about 25-26 inches long. his other stats were:
one month: 12 lbs 8 oz, 23 3/4 inches long
see, I said he was a chunk!!! LOL I guess I am really making Whole Milk this time!!!
Hope everyone is enjoying their babies!!! Thanks again for the new thread!

Okay this is long, sorry:
Routines: We are still trying to establish a consistent one but it is hard because one day DD wants to sleep and the next day she doesn't. It goes something like this:
DD wakes up anywhere between 6 and 9am (if she wakes up earlier than 6am and wouldn't go back to sleep in her bassinet I will let her sleep in my arms or I will put her in the swing, this is more so I can get some sleep) After 6am we play for about 1 hour and she is ready to nap again usually. If she wakes up closer to 9am she will sleep for only a half hour so I put her in her baby carrier on the bathroom floor while I shower, sometimes I try out the crib for a longer nap or the swing if she isn't having it. After she wakes up again she is changed and if I am going to bath her I usually do it now. She usually will go down for a long nap (anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours) around 10:30-11:30am and this will be either in the crib or her swing. In the evening DD naps for like 15-30 minutes while someone is holding her, during car rides, or in her swing. Her bedtime ranges from 8:00 pm (when we get her ready for bed) until 1am. She absolutely loves sleeping in the swing and it has saved me from carrying her nonstop. She eats when she wants and how much she wants (I make 4oz and sometimes throw out 3oz!) We try to leave the house every day even if it is to go to the bank or to get coffee. Some days though if we were out all day the day before I try to stay inside so she gets back on track.
Bensgirl - DD is the same way with being difficult to lay down to sleep. If we do not get her laid down when she is just beginning to become tired then it is a lost cause. Hence, why she sleeps in her swing for most naps (and we found out that around 6 weeks) just hang in there. I have cried numerous times out of frustration and my DH always tells me "no one said this was going to be easy". We also noticed that if a blanket separates our skin from her skin it is easier to lay her down. And as Katie said keep trying out every thing over and over, what works one day doesn't always work the next and visa versa.
Bathing - I try for every other day because her head and neck sweats a lot when she sleeps. Right now it is in the morning but when I go back to work it will be part of her pm routine. I wash off her head, face, and neck every morning and night. I also wipe her hands with alcohol free wipes numerous times during the day because she is always trying to put them in her mouth.
Twainny - What is in your basement for the "adventure", I am so curious? Good luck flying with the boys!
Fussiness - I posted this in the other thread but what works for us: patting her tush repeatally and holding in the cradle position rocking while walking, talking to DD loud enough to drown out her crying about falling asleep or anything. "Baby superman" works for us too - Perfect name for it, also helps her burp.
Martha - Elena is beautiful!
i'd like to join. i didn't join the pregnancy threads, but i hope you will all have me in the mommy thread.
dd - rj
birthdate - 8/14/07
newborn - 7lbs, 3 oz, 21 inches long
bensgirl - you are not alone. my dd sounds a lot like your's. its very challenging to get her to sleep on her own. i said i would never cosleep, and she is mostly sleeping in the bed with me. i really have no routine either. its hard bc i can't do much else, but i just love cuddling with her too. there will be a day when i miss her wanting to be held all the time.
fussiness - i think my dd evening fussiness is more than just fussiness and i think she has colic. our wbv is next week and we will talk to the dr. she literally screams on (mostly) and off for almost 3-4 hours from about 7 - 11. nothing really works - the carrier, the arm hold, the swing. we tried mylecon and it hasn't worked either. going outside sometimes works, but eventually she tires of that and screams outside too, embarrassing us. my dh doesn't come home until 9:30, and i just stare at the clock waiting for some relief. we can't really take her for a drive bc i live in a city and finding a parking spot late at night is really hard. i feel so badly for her bc she seems to be in such distress. i don't think its bc she is overly tired bc she naps a lot during the day.
bathing - we do it at least every other day, and sometimes every day. she used to hate the bath, but now its very soothing to her. given her sensitive nature, we want to try to incorporate things she actually enjoys into her daily "routine."
"routine"
besides the constant feedings, changes, and naps i do the following...
early a.m. - dh watches dd while i take a shower
a.m. - walk with dd
afternoon - dd takes long nap (about 2-3 hours), and i try to relax and do whatever housework i can
evening - another walk and bath

asha- I know it seems a long ways away, but I really think that the 6 week mark proved to be a HUGE changing point for us. My DS would scream ALL day for the first 3-4 weeks. It got better, slowly and around 6 weeks, he started being happy (well, not crying) 80% of the time, everyday. I know that all babies cry, so I expect SOME crying, just not 14 hours a day! Good luck, and just know that it DOES get better!

nak:D(I have always wanted to do that!)
I thought we had a routine, I was wrong. He does nap good but it is different every day. I take it as it comes!
fussiness-I do the 5 these things(all together)-swaddle, paci, rock, pat, sssh. Normally I can get him calm in a couple mins w/ this. Though often he gets calm to get upset all over again in 3 mins! I also want to add that DS hates being swaddled at first so don't let your child hating it at first stop you from using it. It is wonderful for us at night. Keeps him asleep longer and helps calm him down faster even if it makes him mad.
august moms-It will get easier! We had to hold DS and cosleep for quiet some time. You will eventually find things that work. I also recommend getting carriers. It made those first weeks easier since he had to be close I could still do things.
ok-post more later when DS is asleep!

We didn't have a 1 mo WBV, so I just included our 2 month stats.
Let's see if I can catch up on the thread:
routines: we don't really have one at this point. We eat when she wants to eat, sleep when she gives cues, and do whatever we can in between. She wakes for the day sometimes between 6:30 and 10 a.m :) Depends on the day. We eat and then talk for a little while--usually waking DH in the process so the three of us sit in bed and enjoy each other. Then, she'll nap again. At some point, I try to sit her in the bouncer to take a shower. I can usually get just enough time. Usually she'll go in her cradle for her midmorning nap which will be any time between 15 minutes and an hour. And the day just continues :) If we need to run errands, we go in the afternoon and we have a "playdate" once a week with a few friends. Eventually I would like to go for walks in the morning when it cools a bit. Now, it's so hot and I can't guarantee I'll get a shower right when I get home--so I don't enjoy it.
Afternoon continues eating and sleeping when DD dictates it. A lot of time is spent walking around the house b/c this is what puts her to sleep. Bedtime is usually between 9 and 9:30 and she'll sleep for 5-6 hours. Then, it's up every 2-3 hours until we wake for the day.
Bensgirl- as you can see, we don't really have too much of a routine and DD is 9 weeks (almost 10) old. So, don't feel bad. This works for us and DD is having her needs met. As for being able to put her down--she sleeps well in her swing during the day. At night, we just turned a corner last week with how easy it is to put her down. But, prior to that here is our routine b/c DD was the same way your son was--she'd be out cold and then wake up as soon as we put her down (or sometimes 10 min later). We walk/bounce her to sleep on our shoulder. When she is very drowsy but not yet out, we swaddle her in the miracle blanket. Then, we walk her around some more. We have lullabies playing in the background so we'll usually sing to her as well. Once she is out, we lay her in the cradle---leaning over as we lay her down so she is still close to our body. As we pull away, we have our hand on her chest applying gentle pressure. Then, we gradually lessen the pressure of our hand before removing it completely. We also have a sound machine that plays rain sounds--which we turn on prior to lying her in bed.
Now, we walk her to sleep, swaddle, turn on music/sound machine, and lay her down. No need for the hand thing at all.
Baby's crying- I'll BBL!

Boy I'm not used to this much activity! It is kind of fun! But I'm sorry I wouldn't be able to give every one personal SOs!
Martha Congrats on Baby Elena!
Asha Welcome and Congrats on you Baby!
routine Like others have said DS#1 has a routine so DS#2 just tags along. I pretty much feed him when he is hungry and he falls asleep when he is tired. It is so easy at this stage because he is so portable. I know it will be harder once he has a routine of his own. But he is doing really well in the sleep department (knock on wood). I'm not sure if it is going to last with the night sleep so I'll appreciate it while I can!
fussiness We swear by the 5 S's! It worked wonders with DS#1, but just works ok with DS#2. He also really likes the football hold (superman hold) and that calms him down a lot.
Well Charlie got a bottle for the first time last night. DH said he took it ok, not great, but not screaming bloody murder like DS#1 did. As a side note DS#1 didn't take a bottle until he was almost 6 months and that was after trying every bottle I could find. I had mix feelings about Charlie taking the bottle ok. On one hand I was happy, but on the other hand I was really sad. Almost like he didn't need me anymore. But when I got home Charlie was still acting hungry so I offered him the breast. I was thrilled when he took both boobs. But then I guess he was just nursing for comfort and didn't really need the milk because the next thing I know both of us, the couch, the nursing pillow, everything was covered in milk. I swear everything he just ate came up!! So needless to say we got to bed a little late last night after everything and everyone got cleaned up.

Well most of you ladies seem to have babies at least a few weeks old. Rylan is 8 days now and I finnished his birth story. I will be back in a few days with SO and QOTD answers. Still resting and getting used to being a mom of 2.
Rylan William's Birth Story
Well where to begin….It all started Thursday morning after I took black and blue cohosh 2 times. I was over due and feeling like it. I really wanted my baby out!!! That morning I had bloody show. I called Connie (my midwife) and my doula (Jeni) and let them know I had bloody show. Nothing else was really happening except I had bloody show around 2 pm and was feeling crampy and VERY tired. Bill decided to come home around 1 pm to help take care of Ashton. That night I went to sleep and was woken up every 15 minutes with mild contractions.
On Friday I was cramping in the morning and the cramps progressed to contractions 7 minutes apart at 2:30 pm. The contractions were slightly painful but continued until the evening. I spoke to Connie that evening and she suggested I drink a glass of wine or take 2 Tylenol. I took the Tylenol at 8 pm and the contractions spaced to 1 hour apart at 10 pm. I got about 4-5 hours of sleep and woke up at 4 am with painful contractions 4 minutes apart. I called Jeni at 5 am and asked her to come as I though it was “birth day”. Jeni headed over and we went for a long walk. My contraction kept coming and were getting stronger. My deep breathing helped so much and helped me let go of the pain. At 8 am Jeni and Bill wanted me to call Connie and let her know what was going on. Connie decided she would come over. I was so excited!!! Bill called his mom and had Ashton picked up. At 9 am my contractions started to go from 4 minutes apart to 8 minutes apart. I was bummed. At 9:30 am my contractions were dying down and Connie arrived. Connie took my vitals and we decided I would be checked. I was apprehensive about being checked as I wanted to be far along in dilatation but knew I could be stilled closed. I was 2 centimeters….I was bummed. Connie said to rest and take some more Tylenol and to know the baby would be here soon. Everyone went home and I tried to sleep.
Saturday became Sunday and my contractions continued to be about 1 hour apart from Saturday night until Sunday at 2 pm. At 2 pm my body seemed to kick into gear. I asked Bill to fill the pool at 5 pm. My contractions went from 7 minutes apart to 3-5 minutes apart at 7 pm. I called Connie and Jeni and both decided to come back over. I have no clue what time both Connie and Jeni arrived. At that point my contractions were 2-3 minutes apart and very intense. All I really remember about Connie arriving was that I was jumping into the pool from the shower. As soon as Connie arrived Jeni came then my Mother in law arrived to care for Ashton. Connie set all her supplies and pulled out my birth kit from the closet. Jeni sat with me and helped me breath through the contractions.
Time seem to fly…..Every time I asked what time it was 2-3 hours had passed. At some point I asked Connie if I was really in labor. She smiled and said she does not set up the birth room unless a baby is on the way. My contractions seemed to get more and more intense. Coming every 30 seconds for a long while. The pool was my savior!!! When the pool did not seem to help the shower was a great alternative. Standing up made the contractions 50% worse. Bill, Connie, Jeni and Lisa (Connie’s Asst. as well as a doula) helped me focused and reminded me that it was my body causing the contractions. Connie also reminded me of my faith in God as I had asked her to do in my birth plan. At some point I threw up and the contractions felt overwhelming. Then there was a calm…..I rested my head on the side of the pool. I had about a 5 minute break from the contractions, it was wonderful. Jeni mentioned after the birth that she knew from the calm I would be pushing very soon. She was right. After the calm I felt the urge to push. I was having mixed feelings about pushing as I did not want to push to soon. Connie had not check me at all during the labor and asked if I wanted her to check me now. I agreed and she checked me. I was complete, +1, with my bag of water bulging. With each contraction I pushed with all my might. While squatting and pushing in the pool my water broke with a pop. I turned over in the pool to a semi reclined position and continued to push. Connie asked if I wanted to place my fingers in my birth canal to feel the baby descending. I place my fingers inside my birth canal and felt the baby’s head. As I continued to push I felt the baby’s head come farther and farther down. Soon I felt the baby crowing. It was so intense. Connie had me breathe the baby out so I would not tear. I slowly breathed and gently nudged the baby out. I felt the baby’s head in my hands then Connie said to push to get the shoulders out. I pushed hard and felt the baby slide out of me into my hands. I believe Connie never touched the baby and she told me to pull the baby up out of the water onto my chest.
I felt a rush! I just looked at my new baby and did not even think to look if it was a boy or a girl. Bill said “I think he is a boy” but I did not care it was a baby!!! I did it… I had a natural homebirth in water and gave my baby the best start ever. Finally I looked down and saw a penis. “It’s a boy” I said. Connie asked if I wanted to birth the after birth in the water or my bed. I decided to birth the placenta in my bed. I cut the cord myself once in bed. After a little couching from Connie the placenta was born. Connie and Jeni cleaned me up and took my vitals. Jeni stayed for 1.5 hours after the birth and Connie stayed 2.5 after the birth. Bill and I named our son Rylan William. Rylan was born on Labor Day September 3rd 2007 after 36 hours of predominal labor 7.5 hours of active labor and 36 minutes of pushing. Rylan weighed 9 pounds and 10 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. Rylan was born after 41 week 2 day in my womb.
Rylan is a wonderful baby and we are all enjoying the addition to our family.

RobynScott - Thanks, it was a doozie, but I honestly wouldn't change a thing about it! Especially now that we have her!
Katie&Michah - Thanks! My mom's, sister's, and niece's middle name is Elena and we gave her my husband's mom's first name as her middle: Khue (pronounced quay). I had no idea Elena was a popular name, but we heard about another baby yesterday with that name and met an older (80s) woman in the grocery store this weekend named Elena. Strange! My mom was given Elena as her middle name after a song that her mom like at the time of her birth (1941 - Maria Elena was the song's name).
Lisa - Thanks!

purplevega--what a beautiful and inspiring birth story!
allieannie--he is such a cutie!
routine--this was so, so hard for me. probably the hardest part about having a baby. i am normally a very scheduled person. i like to know what's coming up so i can make plans accordingly. with the baby...it just all goes out the window. we don't have a solid routine yet, and my ped said to try it at 8 weeks. it usually doesn't "take" until 2-3 months in most babies. so, every day we sort of wing out. i do try to go out at least 1/day, just to get out of the house. i think the key will be to set up a routine for myself--mom groups, classes, etc., and just work her into it.
Us--Natalie is six weeks now, and is quite the cluster feeder. She'll nurse on one side, fuss when the flow slows down. I'll switch her, and repeat. This goes on for about 2-3 hours every night. It's probably not the right thing to do, but today we ended up giving her a bottle of EBM after 2 hours of switching boobs and her banging on my boob with her fists. She was a lot calmer after that. I know it's not recommended as it messes with my supply, but if she's hungry and she's getting frustrated at the boob after nursing for two hours, it just seems like the right thing to do.

Bathing We bathe DS every other night. He LOVES it and I find that he sleeps better when we do. He also loves it when I rub lotion on him :)
Thank you to everyone who repsonded to my post :) It makes me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who isn't on a schedule. I do have to say that at night I try to keep it pretty routine. Whether or not he follows is another story though. LOL
Martha What a cute baby!
TopDown LOL. DS has just started eating more in one sitting and he is 5 weeks old. He eats about every 2 hours but he will eat longer. Instead of 10 minutes, he's been eating for 20 or so. I'm sure it will pass.
polarama My DS does the whole grabbing/getting pissed at my boobs too. He will grunt and growl and then claw at me and then let out a huge scream, all the while continuing to feed! I take him off and squueze to make sure milk comes out and it comes right out with no problem. He also gets oissed when I first have my let-down bc it comes out so fast, it nearly chokes him. And its only at night when he is exhausted that he gets pissed and growls, etc... Sometimes I think he only does this when he is tired bc he wants something to suck on (to soothe him) but doesn't want the milk. But my DS only takes a paci on occassion. He'd rather have my boob than the paci. Good luck!

My son does the crying/clawing/punching my boob thing too! Weird.
I don't have a routine at all. I was trying to semi-start a routine last week, but I developed mastitis over the weekend and DS has been kind of clingy ever since.

Annie - Blake is growing so fast! It is strange because when I look at DD I don't think she has grown much but then when I look at pictures it hits me.
purplevega - congratulations on your baby's birth!
QOTD: When or is everyone going back to work? And where are your LO's going? I am dreading it as each day passes by, I cannot believe that it has almost been 12 weeks. We decided to have MIL babysit while we are working, but I really, really want to stay home.
Lilliana is something else, last night she was up every 2 and half hours to eat and would only eat 2/3 of the bottle each time, I pray it was a one time thing!:eek:

I'm not going back. We are going to be poor for a while, but I'll be much happier at home with Madeline.
QOTD: When or is everyone going back to work? And where are your LO's going?
I'm blessed to be at home since DS#1 and hopefully I can with this one as long as DS#1
Bathing- he gets one every night with his brothers!
Twainny-I;m so jealous about your weather...send some down here!!!
Annie- Blake (love the name) is so big and cute!
polarama-your routine will come. I'm still half on one and half off.
EmilyZA- sorry about the mastitis. is it getting better? hope so:(
Love- at least she will be with your MIL and you can call all the time;)
Aiden- just had his 2 month check up. He gained a 2lbs so he's up to 12lbs, 24" long. He got his vaccs and was such a trooper!!! I gave him some tylenol so he be as happy as he could be. I think I cried more than he did and this is the 4th baby I;ve vaccinated. I just it doesnt get easier.

purplevega - just read your birth story! Mine is somewhat similar in that I had 38 hours of prodromal labor, but I couldn't hack it and threw out the plans for the waterbirth and headed into the hospital after the midwife suggested I do so. I'm so jealous/impressed that you held out and had the birth you wanted. Props!!!
bensgirl1221 - thanks! We think so too! My DD also fusses at my breasts. And she has the same reaction to my let down. So good to read that I'm not the only one experiencing this! Now if only there was something we could all do about it!
Twainny - I'm in DC too! Have you joined a mom's group? I just found out about one in the area if you're interested...

Good job mama!
QOTD: When or is everyone going back to work? And where are your LO's going?
I'm lucky to have so long - but still sad to be going back in January. LO - good question! We got on the waitlist for the preferred daycare last December (when I was 12 weeks pregnant) - due to a baby boom amongst current parents with kids enrolled, there's no space for us in January :( So we are scrambling now to find another daycare scenario that will work for us. The place we want opened another location - but it's another 10 - 15 mins in the opposite direction from where DH and I work.
My biggest concern would (will) be making it in time to pick DS up. Not to mention I am not looking forward to the limited amt of time I will be able to see DS. (leave the house at 7 - get home at 7 - what will I see him, 2 hours a day?!?) - Unfortunately, not working is not an option for me. I think I will be trying to find something with less hours by this time next year - but I feel like I need to go back to my office for now at least.
Ugh - sorry for the long answer - I am already dreading it!

Unfortunatley I have to go back to work soon, the exact date is still up in the air I have filled out paperwork to see if the school board will allow me to stay out until Oct 18th. so everyone cross their fingers...when I do go back...Eli will be staying with my MIL. Oh how I wish I could stay home with him though...
Twainny-I too am soooo jealous of your weather too...its still in the 90's in New Orelans, I cant wait for the weather to even get into the 70's :p
Annie- Blake is adorable..and getting so big
polarama-Dont feel bad about the routine, we dont have one either and I dont know how to even go about starting one...I guess i need to get on that..
EmilyZA- Hope the mastitis goes away soon and you feel better too.

I'm going back in December, 4 days/week, then back to full time in January. We are lucky in that my mom will be watching DD. Right now, my work/office life feels so distant and foreign to me.

My DS does the whole grabbing/getting pissed at my boobs too. He will grunt and growl and then claw at me and then let out a huge scream, all the while continuing to feed!
My DS does this, too. People in the BF support thread were saying that it could be that he wants another letdown, but since your milk is still coming out when he's doing this, not sure if that's the case. My DS usually only does this at night, too. Sometimes, I think maybe he's tired, because I'll take him off and rock him for a bit, and he'll just fall limp. Kind of like he was saying, Darn it mom, stop feeding me, because I just want to sleep. LOL. *shrug*
QOTD: When or is everyone going back to work? And where are your LO's going?
I'm going back at 12 weeks. DS is 6 weeks today, and it makes me so sad to think that we're already halfway through maternity leave. RobynScott ~ The daycare waiting system seems so crazy. I got on the waiting list for the daycare at work in November, when I first got my BFP. When DS was born, I still didn't know whether I'd be able to get in. Then, they just called this week to tell me that they have a spot available starting next week. If I want to hold the spot, I have to pay for it. Otherwise, they won't have another spot until December or January. So, we'll be paying for 6 weeks worth of daycare to insure that we have a spot when I go back to work.
Question: How long are your DC able to stay awake? And how often do they have an awake period?
Just curious, because even though we are all obsessed with getting our babies to sleep, I know as they get older, it's not just eat and sleep all the time, and babies will have more awake/alert periods. DS does have a couple of times in the day that he'll just be awake and staring around. But he usually will start fussing after being awake for about an hour or so.

Holy cow, this thread is moving fast now! I can't keep up. It's nice getting the perspective of the July moms, learning where I'll be in another month.
QOTD: Returning to work: I will be out through September and October, and then start back part time and work up to full time. It's kind of up to me, but I will be all out of paid leave by the end of October, and we can't really afford to be a one income family -- even though my teacher's salary is meagre at best. I visited me classroom today and saw the kids -- and even though there is some various drama going on with the staffing, they will be okay until I come back. Liam will be going to my parents' house and spending the day with my mom. I think she is tickled at the prospect, and I know I am very lucky to have family to do child care, especially for free.
We had our 2 week appointment today, and apparently I have magical breastmilk. Liam weighed 8 lbs 12 oz at birth and 8 lbs 4 oz at the 1 week appointment last week (6 days)... today, 8 days later, he weighed 9 lbs 8 oz!! My doctor made the nurse weigh him again because she thought it had to be a mistake, but nope! So the boobies are doing their job.
My MIL left last night and I am so glad to be back with just the 3 of us. Still so in love with the boy (who is sitting here blasting poop into his diaper and smiling as I type this) and just loving being a mom!

Polarama, Twainny and Martha - Add me to the DC list (well, Vienna) The weather was great today, hope it stays this nice!
Martha -What moms groups are you attending? I have been searching online here and there and want to start going. When I go back to work I am planning on working 4 ten hour days so I can take off 3 days just so I can spend more time with DD (and hopefully take her to some play groups)
Clawing at the boobies: DD does this too and she has been FF since week 2, especially when she is tired! She also sometimes massages my boob when she is eating (even though I am consistently removing her hand)
Question: How long are your DC able to stay awake? And how often do they have an awake period? Seems to be different every day, however she does seem to stay awake for around 2-4 hours stretches. DD is not very good at napping unless she is in the swing or my arms. She sometimes will sleep for 5 minutes awake for 10 minutes and repeat, LOL.
Good job on getting those babies to gain weight!

Going to try and start participating a little more :) Hopefully, I can keep up!
QOTD: When or is everyone going back to work? And where are your LO's going?
I am going back at 12 weeks. I will be working from home 1 day per week and then taking every other Friday off.
Hailey will be going to a home daycare for the time that I am at work.
Question: How long are your DC able to stay awake? And how often do they have an awake period?
Hailey has an awake period after almost each feeding excluding overnight. She typically stays awake anywhere from 10-30minutes each time.
Bathing We try to give her a bath every other night.

silentbunny ~ Go you and your magical breastmilk! :) Sometimes I worry that I'm overfeeding DS, because he's becoming such a chubster, but they say you can't overfeed a BF baby, so... But as a mom, it's my prerogative to worry about everything, LOL.
She also sometimes massages my boob when she is eating (even though I am consistently removing her hand)
DS does this, too! I think it's kind of funny. :) He will also cover his face, like he needs privacy while eating. :)
Hey guys. Tenny, the new thread is great. Thanks so much!
Henry is 3 weeks old today. We're doing great. BFing is still going well, and he is sleeping as well as anyone can expect for a baby his age. He was 7 lbs. 4 oz. and 19.75 inches at birth. Obviously we don't have 1 month stats yet.
QOTD: When or is everyone going back to work? And where are your LO's going?
End of November (though I am hoping I can take it kind of easy work-wise until after the first of the year since December is generally kind of an odd month anyway). We just got off the wait-list at our 3rd choice daycare this week, so he'll go there if we don't get into our 1st or 2nd choice or find a nanny we're thrilled with. We're still keeping all options open.
Question: How long are your DC able to stay awake? And how often do they have an awake period?
DS is generally awake for anywhere from 1-2 hours after waking up in the morning (usually around 8am). Then he's awake for maybe an hour or so after he wakes up from his morning nap and awake for a couple hours in the evening. He has other shorter wakeful periods (maybe 30 minutes) between naps and feedings during the day. He's generally not awake at all other than feedings every 3-4 hours between about 11pm and 8am.
Bathing -- We do every other night (sponge bath only, as he still has his cord stump).
Clawing at the breast -- DS does this, too. I can't figure out why and it's so frustrating. He doesn't do it as much at night or when he's really tired, and he does it a lot more on the left side. He thrashes around and gets himself absolutely covered in milk.

My DS does this, too. LOL!!! Totally! And it occurred to me earlier today, after I read everyone's posts and posted about having the same problem that maybe all my DD wants is to suck on something so I busted out the dreaded pacifier and gave it to her and it worked like a charm. She even kept in her mouth during an entire nap. But, the true test will be tonight when she really fusses at the boob - stay tuned!
Polarama, Twainny and lovelifeandlivelove - dare I suggest we start our own mom's group!? I'm in NW DC and was told about a group that meets every other Wednesday also in NW but the group is sponsored by Sibley Hospital and I didn't give birth there - not sure if that matters to them or not though. I was thinking to go check it out when they meet next (not next Wednesday, but the followiing). If you guys are interested let me know and I can e-mail you the specifics...
Another QOTD: Anyone pumping? I'm scared of the whole pumping scenario for some reason. I just started yesterday (once) and would love any tips, dos and don'ts, how tos, etc. I have all kinds of questions, like the whole pumping and dumping business. I have a birthday coming up and would like to celebrate it and not do so sans the sauce (have been dying for a Mandarin and tonic for months now) so I know I have to store some up and then pump while I'm imbibing and dump it right? Also, when do I pump to store? After she eats, morning, night? Do I add a pumping session to her feeding schedule? Help!
Tenny

QOTD: When or is everyone going back to work? And where are your LO's going? I turned in my resignation 2 weeks after Charlie was born. So I'm going to be a SAHM. So I guess I'm already at work!! I'm thrilled to be able to stay home, but some days at home with two kids I think it would be easier being back at work. But at least once a day one of the boys will do something which makes me think I'm doing the right thing.
Question: How long are your DC able to stay awake? And how often do they have an awake period?
Some times it seems like he is only up just enough to eat and fall back to sleep. But I would say no more then 2 hours, if that!
Pumping So far I only pumped in the middle of the night when DS would only take one breast. But back when I had DS#1 I would try and pump in between feeding to get a stock pile of milk. Also as far as when to pump and dump I would recommend http://www.kellymom.com/health/lifestyle/alcohol.html for info.
Clawing at the breast Yep DS does this too. Usually at night and mostly on the left breast. Drives me crazy. When he does it I'm constantly taking him off and burping him because he is taking in so much air as he does it.
Ok must go. DS is really fussy tonight!

Miss Madeline has been so miserable today. Stupid vaccines! I'm scared of what tonight is going to be like.
Lisa, how's Aiden doing tonight? Any sort of reaction?
Martha,
I pump most of the time, only nurse a couple times a day. What kind of pump do you have? I find that I get the most output in the middle of the night and early morning. So those would be ideal times for you to pump although not very convenient! How many drinks are you planning on having? They say if you're only having one then you don't need to dump, but if you're gonna go a bit wild that's another story. This thread (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34721) has been incredibly helpful to me.
Robyn.. thanks! I just can't believe how fast she chunked up. She still however does not fit into the 0-3 month clothing. I have a feeling we're gonna have big problems dressing her. 12lbs isn't exactly in the newborn size range.. but that's what she's wearing!
Silentbunny..
AWESOME JOB!! That really is some magic milk!!

That sucks about the daycare, but I guess it's worth it to have a guaranteed spot. I wouldn't want the stress of rushing at the end to find some place.

Wow this thread has moved very fast in the last 2 days!
QOTD: When or is everyone going back to work?
I quit my job as the marketing coordinator for a real estate company just before Allison was born. Since I needed a real estate license to do my job and my license is paid up through the end of the year, my boss told me he would pay me to come in and answer phones on the weekend (need a licensed person to do this incase a prospective client calls). So I went in this past Sunday and plan on doing 2 Sundays a month - they are only 6 hour days. DH is home on Sundays and watches Allison.
Question: How long are your DC able to stay awake? And how often do they have an awake period?
If she is still awake (hasn't fallen asleep on her own) 2-2.5 hours after she last woke up she starts to get fussy and I will rock or soothe her to sleep.
Clawing at the breast
Allison does this too. She will also cover her face. I feel like her hands are constantly sticky (even after I wash them off) b/c she moves them around so much while bf'ing and gets them covered in milk.
Routine: Kind of. Our day starts out the same. She gets up around 8-8:30 eats, then we go on a walk, then mommy takes a shower, Allison gets a bath every other morning, she goes down for a nap then from there on we do the same things eat, play, nap, eat, play, nap, etc but the times are different. Some mornings she eats after 2 hours sometimes its 3. Some days her afternoon nap is 3 hours (mommy loves that) and others its only 1.5 hours. She goes to sleep anywhere from 8-10 and wakes up once during the night to feed.
I think that is all of the questions. The weather has also cooled down a lot here too. We have been walking a mile every morning over the last 2 weeks. DD's 2 month appt is on the 24th. I am guessing she is around 9 pounds. I got on the scale then picked her up and got back on.

I'm not used to such a fast moving thread either! It's nice though. But I'm going to note right now and apologize that I'll probably never have the time for personal SO's.
Going back to work? Not sure yet if it's fortunate or unfortunate, but I'm staying home. :) Daycare for two infants would be more than what I make.
Awake time It's getting to be longer and longer each day. But it's still really unpredictable. They could be awake up to two hours after a feeding, or fall sleep before they've even finished eating. I'm hoping it evens out soon.
Katie I hope your night goes ok! After Natalie and Megan got vaxed things were rough for about 24 hours. They slept a lot though.
Things have been good here in twinland. Not much to report. We're hitting a growth spurt so they've been eating all the time. I don't mind though, they could use some growth. I think my girls are still smaller than some of yours at birth, lol. (They're about 8 and a half pounds now.)
Katie&Micah

Michelle..
So far she's still sleeping. So I hope that continues.
I'm so jealous that your girls are still tiny. I REALLY miss her being small. She's such a chunky butt now. She doesn't look like a newborn anymore.. *sigh*
j2478..
12 hours a month is very cool! I'd love to have a job like that. This staying at home thing is hard sometimes. I feel like I never get the chance to really relax because I'm always on call.

Thanks to everyone who commented on Blake. He is getting so big. When I was uploading pics I was looking at the others and was in shock!
Going back to work? We haven't decided for sure. I don't really want to but we do need me to after really figuring things out. I will probably end up working and missing my little boy lots!!
Awake timeThis is always different. It really depends on what we do for the day. I would say yesterday he was awake from 7-8:30, 9:30-10:45, 11:45-12:30, 2:30-4, 4:30-6, and then 7-8:30. That is a very awake day for him though. Right now he is awake and has been since 7(he is in his swing--he normally hates that thing!--ehh I spoke to soon as soon as I typed that he got mad--he is finally asleep now 20 mins later).
Clawing at the breastHe does this and I am pretty sure it is when he wants another let down. It entertains me.
Well we our on two nights of awful sleep. Tuesday night he slept 3-2hour stretches then woke up every hour. Last night he slept his good 5 hour stretch then began waking up every hour-finally I cuddled with him in bed and he slept rest the night. I haven't had to do that since he was about 5 weeks! I hope I didn't start something up again. I don't sleep as good if he is in bed(as he thinks he must touch me) as when he is in the sidecar!
Well off to eat breakfast and do some home stuff since he is asleep.

QOTD: When or is everyone going back to work?
I am strongly considering asking my boss if I can come back p/t, but I'm not sure how receptive he'll be to that. I wish I could stay home. I can't imagine leaving my little guy!
Has anyone done this? Asked to go back p/t? I don't even know how to approach my boss about it, I'm so nervous.
Question: How long are your DC able to stay awake? And how often do they have an awake period?
I think he's awake a lot for a month old! He's usually up for a few hours (2-3) in the morning, and then he naps more in the afternoon. We have a very tough time getting him down at night, and after his 2am feeding!

QOTD: When or is everyone going back to work? And where are your LO's going? I am going back to work 10/8/07 :( I am going back part-time though. Working Mon-Wed (Wed is a half day) and having Thurs.-Sun off. He will be 9 weeks old. I am sick about it though...I REALLY want to stay home with him. Its my damn car payment thats keeping me from doing this...maybe I could do without a car?:D DH is wokring from home on Mondays and MIL is watching him Tues & Wed.
Question: How long are your DC able to stay awake? And how often do they have an awake period? I say he gets cranky after being up for about an hour. Except during the night.
Pumping I pump twice a day in the morning and afternoon. No tips except get a pump that takes no time at all and is easy to use! I have the Medela PISA and love it. I can pump 4 ounces in just a few minutes.
Massaging the boob LOL. This cracks me up! My DS does this all the time too. And he also covers his face as to say, "Give me some privacy." Its pretty funny.

Emily I actually talk to my boss about a LONG time ago. Probably about the same time I told them I was pregnant. I put it on the table and if they said no, then I would have quit. Luckily they were understanding. I would just say that you dont want to your child in day care all week and you'd like to know if it was possible if you could work part-time. Just be honest and make sure the know you like your job and want to make it work no matter what.

silentbunny Good job on growing your little man!! His ped told me the same thing. He was born 8 lbs 7 oz and went home 8 lbs. 3 days later he was 8 lbs 12 oz! Then 2 days after that he was 9 lbs 2 oz. Then at 3 weeks he was 9 lbs 12 oz and then at 5 weeks he was 10 lbs 14 oz. I have a little chunker on my hands!! LOL
Hi, thanks for the new thread! And hi to the August moms!
Here's my info:
ctjo
Me: Joanne, 33
DH: John, 34
Married: 10/25/03
Any other children: no
It's a GIRL! Brooke
ADD: 7-18-07
N/B Stats: 8lbs, 1 oz
I am bad, I do not remember her other stats :o I just know she is growing a lot!
Hope everyone is doing well. We are doing great here. We had Brooke Christened over Labor Day weekend and it went great. Now we are mostly taking it easy and enjoying ourselves :D Let's see if I can get caught up on some QOTD's
Routine - eh, sort of. I try to go for a walk every day around 8:30 to get us in the habit so that it will be easier when Brooke has to go to daycare. I also find that she seems to sleep better when she has a bath (even though she HATES her bath) so I try to give her one every night between 7 and 8. That's about it though, for a routine :)
Back to Work I go back on Oct 1. I am looking forward to working again, but I know I will be a mess missing DD so much! She is going to an in-home daycare three doors down from our house. I work at home so I will be able to pop in and see her, and also nurse her during the day - hopefully that will make it easier.
Claw at the breast - yep, she does this too. And I am really bad about trimming her nails so I really do get pretty clawed!
Pumping I am not that good at this yet. I started but then got mastitis (ow!) so it set us back a little. DH tried to give DD a bottle the other night - she took a little of it and was confused in general. We're going to try again tonight. I should say DH will try again - I left the house last time and will probably do the same tonight.
lovelifeandlivelove - sorry I am so late with this response - but about the tailbone pain - no I didn't any pain meds during labor. I thought the pain was from pushing so much maybe? Also maybe from sitting around a lot ;) I hope you are feeling better!
Hope everyone is enjoying their babies!
thank you everyone for your advice on dd's evening screaming sessions. after a really bad night of screaming until 1 a.m. and tons of spitting up, i call the ped. he suggested trying to keep her vertical for 30-45 mins after each feeding and using saline drops in her nose. i don't know if his suggestions worked, but last night was much more tolerable. she did scream some, but it was much easier to soothe her and she settled down to sleep at 10 p.m., and slept a blessed 4 hours!!!! keeping her vertical has been tricky, especially in the middle of the night when i just want to sleep, but i would do that over the evenings of solid screaming.
claw at breast - lets just say dd manhandles my poor breasts. god its torture when we have gotten lazy about cutting her nails and when she pulls on my nipples - ouch!!! once she is latched she is much gentler and massages my breasts.
back to work - well, right now i am a sahm. i don't plan on returning to a regular job. once i get settled into a regular routine with dd, i will work on some writing i had been doing while preggo. in the beggining of the year we are moving to another state, and the il's will be moving in with us. at that time, it will be easier to focus on my goals bc they can help out with childcare.
stay awake - well, she has her longest wake periods when she is in distress and that can be as long as four hours. when she is quietly alert or playing, she is up from around 10 mins to as long as an hour.

Maddy just figured out that if she hits the toys on her bouncer they move and she is quite pleased with this!! I can't believe how fast they grow. I wish it would all slow down!
Do you all have any favorite parenting books?
I really don't own any which is quite shocking to most ppl who know me since I love to read. I'm trying to be laid back about being a mom because in general I'm pretty uptight about most things. I did pick up The No-Cry Sleep Solution because my previously great sleeper has turned into someone who will only sleep if I'm holding her or if she's on my chest. I don't know what the heck happened but I'd like to fix it!

DC area girls--I'd love to get together! It would work nicely as our kiddos are all around the same age. Perhaps we can PM each other and discuss offline? I have looked into the PACE program (www.pacemoms.org, recommended to me by a few friends), but the one I want is full already. Now I'm looking into Stroller Strides and mommy/baby yoga classes.
Awake time--It's very hard to predict with my kiddo. There are times (like yesterday) where she'll stay awake the entire time we're out of the house, which is about 2 hours. Then there are days where she's only awake about 45 m
