Ladies, DH has to be in Copenhagen for a week for business and I'm going just to bum around.

Any advice on things to see/do?

I know Hamlet's Castle and The Little Mermaid. Any other? Also, I'm open to daytrips via the train also.

TIA!

OK, things I like to do in Copenhagen:

Tivoli. Fairground that is really old and pretty. They close for the season soon I think so you should check their website; www.tivoli.dk

Cocktails at hotel Skt Petri. Really. They are good! :D http://www.hotelsktpetri.com/

(window)Shopping at Magasin. Nice department store on Ströget, which is a long pedestrian only street in the centre of the city-good for people watching. http://www.magasin.dk

Glyptoteket. Great museum that has both antique and modern displays. http://www.glyptoteket.dk/

Another great museum, outside of Copenhagen, is Louisiana. They frequently have great exhibitions by famous artists. http://www.louisiana.dk/

Kronborg castle in Helsingör is a nice visit and Helsingör itself is a beautiful little town.

Just outside of Copehangen there is a nice shopping centre called Field's that I like to go to, if you are into that. http://www.fields.dk/

Nyhavn. Small area by the waterfront filled with restaurants in old, quaint houses. It's nice to sit outside and have a beer if the weather is nice.

The opera house, which is new. It's absolutely beautiful. Don't know what is on right now though.

Carlsberg brewery. They give tours I think.

Then there's Nörrebro and Vestrebro that is off the city centre but are becoming incresingly popular for shopping and dining.

You can always take the train across the water to Sweden and Malmö, which is my hometown. It only takes 20 minutes. The waterfront area is nice to walk around (it's newly built with some pretty exciting architecture, for example Turning Torso. There are also some nice restaurants and cafés.

You should check out http://www.visitcopenhagen.com/ which is so good for info and gives great tips on pretty much everything.

I love Copenhagen and go as often as I can. I hope you'll like your stay. :)

I'm bumping this up because DH is going there to a conference in October and I want to go, too! I don't know anything about Hamlet's Castle or the Little Mermaid.

I guess one of my main questions is--do they speak English? Of all the languages I know a little of, Danish isn't one of them.

I was just there last week and loved Copenhagen. LOVED it. I was very surprised.

Definitely do a Canal tour - I recommend Netto, as they are 1/2 the price of the larger company.

I agree with everything else that Lindsan said - other highlights included the Carlsburg brewery tour. Elsinore/Kronberg is cool, but the interior tours are a bit of a waste of time. I liked the Christianborg ruins very much, Rosenborg Slot, and Tivoli. I went to a lot of other places also, including Roskilde, but those were my favorite.

The Danes are required to learn English in school, so they very much all speak it and I had no problems.
