View Full Version : When do you REALLY start testing?

We all know that we're not *supposed* to test until our period is late. What I want to know is, when do you actually start testing if you think there's a chance you might be pregnant?

I don't really know when AF if late b/c I take progesterone supplements to lengthen my LP (and hopefully sustain a pgcy). One cycle my LP was 16 days and then next it was 12...soooo....I'm not really sure what is "late" anymore. That's why I start testing on 1 DPO.... :D.....Just kidding....usually around 10 DPO.

honestly, the first 2 cycles we were trying, i tested early (12dpo) but after that i just waited until my period showed up or tested at 14dpo (actually never got to test then because my period always showed).
for me, it was easier to get my period than to see days of negative tests and feel terrible but continue to think "maybe it's just too early". hurt more than getting my period.
but some people feel differently!

True dat, yo.
(Honestly I think my brain is melting. My DD is sleeping great, but I've been an insomniac all week.)
And I agree it's different for different people. I didn't want to test (seeing the negatives, wasting the money on the sticks) until there was a reason to trust a negative as well as a positive. I only took one pg test in 7 months of TTC, on 13dpo. I'd planned to take it at 15dpo, but that fell on a Saturday and I was supposed to visit friends that weekend sans DH. We wanted to be together for the test, and didn't want to wait until Monday because for me with my short LPs, making it to 17dpo would've clinched it. So, we bumped it back to Thursday night and voila, we had our bun. It was so light at even 13dpo that my heart fell when I looked at it. Only after much squinting did it look like there even *might* be a line, my B-hCG the next afternoon at the doctor's was 69.

OK, I'll admit it! I'm hoping this month worked....I started testing Wed which was only 5DPO! And I'll be testing everyday until either AF shows up or I get the 2 lines!!
I'm a lunatic, I know.....but at least I'm prepared this month, instead of spending a fortune at the store on tests I got about 16 of them from ebay (First Response & Fact plus) for about $30.
I love driving myself crazy!

For all of my pregnancies, I tested positive at 10dpo. I never tested earlier than that.

I was a 10 dpo + girl!
I am right there with BTB. We were ttc for 5 cycles, but I used one test...and it was a +! :D
Basically, I had been charting for more than 20 cycles. I knew my normal pattern and I had seen others get way too disappointed when they got negatives...plus I hate to waste $. The biggest thing for me, though, was that I didn't want to try to squint at a really faint line and drive myself crazy with the "am I or aren't I" thing.
I tested on 12dpo, because on every other chart I had, my temp had started a dive on that day. On my pg chart, it went up a smidge...and I had a couple of other things going on that were making me wonder. So I bent the rules -- normally I would just wait until AF was expected -- and tested then. A +!

I had regular cycles, so I didn't end up testing until the cycle I got pregnant. My first test was one day late for AF, and that one was negative. My second test, the next day (15 DPO), was a BFP.
It was hard to wait, but I was afraid of seeing negative tests, so I never wanted to test until I was late. Since being late was so odd for me, I wasn't too upset at the one negative test I got since I still had a feeling I might be PG (and I guess I was right!).

I didn't test until my period was late. I just think it's too much of an emotional roller coaster to get a negative test, but know it might be a false negative because it was too early. I wanted to be sure that if it was postive, it was going to show up positive!

At the beginning I tested early for the first 3 cycles we were trying. The negatives were just too hard for me to take so ever since it's just been only after my period has been late.

For the longest time I tested on 10DPO. All my positives happened on 10DPO. Lately though I've been either waiting for after AF is due or testing later (12DPOish).
