We had Jake's one year portraits done at our house yesteray. The photographer took pics for 1.5 hrs, mostly of Jake but some family shots too. In 2 weeks they'll be online and I can't wait to see how they came out!
Also, yesterday we switched Jake to the Marathon, so no more infant seat! He looks like such a big boy in the car! But it sucks that the passenger seat has to be practically up against the dash since the Marathon is so big!

Things are good here. L can walk for 10-15 feet all by herself! She can also change directions and stop and start again without having to sit down. She still cruises and butt-scoots quite a bit, though.
Her naps are crappy. Since I started work my mom has been watching her during the day, and she's been unable to put her down for naps--she has to hold her the whole time she's asleep and can only get her to take one nap. L is a very light sleeper and we have similar problems but know how to put her down without waking her (it's tricky!).
Her 1st molars are giving her problems, even though they're not actually cutting through yet. She's had a couple bad nights becaue of it.
She's finally out of the Snugride. It took forever for her to outgrow it.
I started work a little over a week ago and have had my students for a full week and they're generally well behaved. I like it a lot better than my previous school, and DH agrees (this is the 2nd school we've worked at together).
Hardly any pg symptoms--making me a bit nervous, but I really don't want to be running out of my classroom to barf, you know? ;)

Aw, not a problem ladies, it seriously only took me about 20 seconds, and that was more of a "hey, I wonder if I could click on these and do this" and then poof, it was done. So, not hard at all. It's probably way harder when all of you set them up!
Anyways, I guess I have updates too!

We are also another year older... THANKS Jenny for the new journal!
Jacob's taking about 4-5 steps right now still crawling quiet a bit, he is soooo good at it and fast too it will be hard for him to give that up till he can run. We keep working on making the spaces to walk between stuff and to me longer in hopes of helping him along.
As for naps we too have been having some nap issues the past two days but we have had lots of interruptions to his schedule so I think that is the problem. Between playdates at his normal nap time, carpenters at our home, lots of car trips for errands, late nights and late mornings, and a B-day party today it has been quiet the weekend so far.

Thanks for the birthday wishes for Mia! Yesterday was her birthday and we went to my parents' house this weekend to visit. We had a great time and Mia was treated like a princess the entire time. She got tons of toys from her party last Saturday) and throughout the whole week. She's spoiled so much by my family!
I am uploading pictures and I hope to have them online shortly. I'm going shopping today so it may be later this afternoon.
Mia's growing up a storm. I don't have her stats yet but I will post them as soon as I do. This is what's she's up to right now:
She's walking everywhere. She's been walking now for about a month. She's working on running now, seriously. She could care less if she crawls anywhere else.
Mia now has eight/nine signs. She does them on a regular basis and it makes for great communication that we can understand what she wants.
-bye
-eat
-more
-water
-milk
-all done
-please
-thank you
-light (occassionally)
She has a few words:
-momma
-dada
-baba (used to be what she called me but I've moved to momma! :) )
-bye
-hi
-duck
She eats anything and everything (which is why I'm scared to see her weight). We compared her right now to my baby book and I know she weighs more than I did at 12 months but I was taller. We also started walking around the same time, too.
She's in size 4 or 5 diapers (depending on the brand and stretchiness).
She's an incredibly happy girl, too. She laughs and talks all the time and we get a tons of compliments on how happy she is. She 'talks' and waves to everyone and will laugh/flirt if they wave back or talk to her.
I think her favorite toys at the moment are her Piggy bank, Ball Popper, any cell phone, and anything with buttons.
She is still attached to her "piggy." This is partly our fault because we introduced it to her when she was switching from her nanny to a home daycare because we wanted the transition to be easy. Now, we have about 8 piggys between our house and both of our parents! We did loose our first on on September 1, 2007, in Concord Mills Mall. We called yesterday and they have found it and said, "Piggy's in security!" YAY! Mom's going to pick it up this week.
She's got 7 teeth and is working on #8. That will make her the top 4 and the bottom 4. She went from having two teeth forever to now having 8 teeth in no time. I think they have all come in over a month-month and a half time span.
I think that about sums up Miss Mia.

Happy Belated Birthday Allison & Mia!!!
Question:
I'm starting to wean J off his afternoon nap nursing and have found that when I nurse him he is on for a longer time than he needs which is more for the comforting aspect than the nutritional one.
I have been working on weaning this nursing session for about a week and the napping has been not so good. I have a feeling that when I start taking other nursing sessions away it is going to be bad.
Do you have any advice on things to make the transition easier? Since J doesn't suck his thumb, take a lovie or a binky... and I don't want to start that really if I don't have to.
Any advice would be helpful or is there a book I should get??

We're in the same boat. Honestly, I just don't think N is ready to drop any of her sessions right now. And, like your DS, N doesn't use a binky, suck her thumb or have a lovie - so it's not like I can substitute it, kwim? I do try to redirect her if we are out and about, but she's still basically nursing on demand.
I'm hoping as she gets older she'll just be more interested in other things and will drop them gently on her own. Maybe I'm crazy for thinking that.:o:p
Dropping Nursings--I'm sure my huge decrease in supply helped, but C really DID lose interest on her own. We disassociated them from sleep, though, earlier on. Maybe if you nurse THEN read/rock/whatever, he will separate the nursing and sleeping, and then dropping the session will come more easily and not impact his sleep?
Paci--WE'RE OFF THE PACI!!!! WOOOO!!! Largely due to the lovely case of strep we were diagnosed with on Friday, she just didn't want the paci. So we started hiding them all. And we're FINE. She puts herself to sleep easily without one; we're on day 6 of not having a paci at all. Yay!
Mrs. M--She's darling! Love the hair.
Camndynlyn--How fun Mia must be! Happy birthday to her!

Happy Birthday, Mia!
Hi, girls...
I now have a toddler. Kai (the second youngest baby in this thread, I think) turned one on August 30th and we had his party on Saturday.

Weaning/Dropping Nursings-- I'd love to know more about this, too. We're weaning DS and I seem to do alright until he wants to sleep at night. That's when he's adamant about nursing. But maybe I'll try what mkvh suggested. Can't hurt! :)

[B]Paci--WE'RE OFF THE PACI!!!! WOOOO!!! Largely due to the lovely case of strep we were diagnosed with on Friday, she just didn't want the paci. So we started hiding them all. And we're FINE. She puts herself to sleep easily without one; we're on day 6 of not having a paci at all. Yay!
Oh I am jealous! Not that we've really tried. We limit it to the crib, and the car if she's really upset but now that she's facing forward it's easier to soothe her in the car without it. The pediatrician urged us to re-direct to a lovey, even if she doesn't have one yet. I am thinking Columbus Day weekend we'll try without - we didn't even think about it this long weekend. Today we saw a 2 1/2 year old out walking around with his paci in his mouth AND his lovey with him. He tried talking to E with the paci still in and we couldn't understand him at all.
A weekend of firsts for our DD. At a picnic on Saturday she went down the slide for the first time (didn't seems to impressed) and sat at a big girl table/chair to eat her lunch. On Sunday she discovered the stairs (crap!) and with me behind her crawled the whole way up. She also became very interested in drinking from a real cup, so we are working on that.
Bottle weaning update: She refuses a sippy cup in the morning. So finally today I decided to go cold turkey on the AM bottle. She drank about 1 oz of milk from her cup (combo of with the sippy lid and without). I figured she has breakfast as soon as she gets to daycare (about 1 hour after waking up) so she will get her fluids then. Seemed to go well this morning.
Her attitude has improved greatly from last week. Much fewer hissy fits and screaming fits. She's so much more pleasent to be around now. And this weekend she would crawl over to us every once in a while and give give a hug and kiss, and wants to sit on my lap. I love that she independent but still likes to give some loving!

Sunchaser- The same thing happened with K when I weaned her off of naptime nursing. Honestly, it took about a week for her to get used to it. I started up a good naptime routine, and now she goes down with little to no crying and sleeps for at least 2 hours. At first though, she would wake after 30 minutes and I'd have to go in and settle her. Once she realized that she wasn't getting to nurse, she started sleeping longer and not fighting it. Same thing happened at bedtime. Oh, and it was around this time that K got attached to a lovey. I had tried getting her attached to one before, but she always used me as her lovey, so she didn't need one. Now she just cuddles up with "dolly" and goes to sleep.
MKVH-Yay for no paci!!
Happy birthday to Kai, Mia, and Allison!

Well, we're back from our 5 week vacation and after our flight last night I never want to fly with Seamus again! DH was with me, thankfully, but S was from hell. He had his normal morning nap before we left, but then only slept 45 mins in the car. So he was up for 3.5 hrs, slept for 45 mins, then was up for another 7 hrs. He didn't sleep a wink on the plane, and spent the whole time trying to run around. We had to play with him in the galley and lavatories (I sat him on the changing table and let him play with the cup dispenser - speaking of which, who would drink water out of the airplane bathroom?). We tried one time to get him to sleep but he screamed his head off for 15 mins straight. That doesn't sound like a lot, but on the plane it seemed like FOREVER. I was so glad when we landed.
OK, I know I'm behind so I'll just go with the posts in this thread -
words/signs - these really increased while we were gone. Before we left in July he basically just said Mama/Dada and only occasionally. While we were gone he picked up the words for "banana", "flower", "nose", "mouth" and "uh oh". He also started signing "all done" and is much more consistent with "eat" and "more". And if you ask him where are his little piggies, he grabs his toes. :D
weaning - he never used a paci but I have to wean him from his bottles before he goes to sleep. I am going to start that this weekend when DH is home. I might try just dropping one at a time cold turkey and see how that goes.
Oh, one funny thing - my brother's wife is a HS teacher and she had a picture of S on her computer. One of the girls in the class asked who he was so she said it was her nephew Seamus. The girl hadn't heard the name before so my SIL spelled it and said, "It is pronounced 'Shay-muss' but it looks like it should be 'See-moos'". So this girl is a really good artist and she drew a picture of a Sea Moose - like a sea horse body with a moose head and she wrote "SEA MOOSE" underneath. It is hilarious! I'm going to scan it and make a t-shirt for him.

She's doing really well with us all being at school/work. She really enjoys being with my mom during the day. She's been very huggy/kissy with me the past few days when I get home, though, so I know she misses me. :)
Went to the OB for a prenatal visit today and wasn't able to see anything in the sac. I figure I'm earlier along than the LMP date they're using--I always Oed late when i was charted, plus I was still EPing when I got PG, so that could have made it even later. I wasn't able to see anything the first time with L, either. Still concerned, though.

emmjay - Too funny about Sea-moose!! OK, I have to admit, until the Harry Potter movies came out, I really didn't know the correct pronouncation of Seamus either. LOL.
Sophia - SOOO Cute! B loves his (and my) toothbrush too. He doesn't actually like for me to brush his teeth (he clams up when I attempt), but will chew on it for hours, so I figure that's good enough at this point!

Sophia - cute pictures! I hope you get to see the h/b and everything at your next visit. :)
Wrighty26 - it's funny b/c to me it isn't such an unusual name. I know at least 4 guys named Seamus, but they are all from the Northeast and it's just more common there I guess. Plus I have relatives in Ireland named Seamus. I think I should thank Harry Potter for bringing it more into common usage! :)

Oh, I so agree about the toothbrush. I have come to the same conclusion that at this point I'd rather him like the toothbrush than not so if he at least will use it then in the future hopefully he'll be a good brusher.
By the way thanks for the advice on the weaning, especially Smurf - you give me hope.

HI, I can't believe that it has been so long since I have done an update.
Teeth-seven so far (all within the last nine weeks)with a bunch on the way. Her mouth is full of swollen bumps. It is a guessing game which one will be next.
Milk--she drinks about 6 ounces a day from a straw cup. the rest is still on demand Breastmilk.
Naps- I have no idea what is happening, about three months ago,we finally set into a nice rythym ( even though she is a night owl )and now it is getting screwey again. Somedays she takes two naps- sometimes one really long one. I am going crazy trying to figure it out. I just hate the days that we never seem to make it out of the house waiting aimlessly for a nap that never comes--lol!
Pacis- never used them
getting hurt- I get smacked, zoinked, bit and clawed on a fairly regular basis :)
walking- real walking (and not taking steps) has begun! She also seems to be focusing on standing up without pulling or leaning on anything. She is so funny-when she focuses on learning something physical-she stops talking!
Accessorizing- she loves taking my sandals and wearing them on her elbows and dragging my purse around the house.
what a girl! thank god- grandma owns a shoe store! I have a feeling that it will come in handy when she gets older.

OK, have some time now!
Milk - When we started sippies, she completely refused all milk. But we just kept offering it, and now we have to limit her milk intake because she will drink it like crazy.
Teeth - She is cutting tooth #13 right now! I can't believe how fast they've been coming in. The molars just came through, and today I noticed her lower right eye tooth pushing up.
Words - So far her recognizable ones are Duck, Dog, Toes, Dada and Tickle. Yes, Tickle. She runs up and tickles us saying "tickle tickle tickle", it's so darn cute. She's also saying something weird for Shoes, and something that sounds like Yes. She does signs for drink, food, more, all done, book, and cracker. I think that's it. She jabbers a LOT, I just need to figure out what she's saying. :D
I've noticed just in the past week that she's turning into more of a toddler. She's so independent, pointing things out, pretending to read books, climbing on things, etc. We visited my grandma and she had some bananas in a basket. DD wandered into her kitchen, saw the bananas, ran back out to me saying "MMMM!!!", grabbed my hand, led me into the kitchen and pointed at them. It totally blew my mind, she's COMMUNICATING now and it's so surreal.
Oh, we are finally over our sicknesses here, it only took 2 months. DH and I are still coughing our lungs out at night, but in general we're better. We're still considering doing a dairy-free diet for DD to see if she has an intolerance issue. Her poops are terrible, although they seem to be better now that her molars are in. Oh, a while back I mentioned she got a terrible rash from pineapple... well, yesterday she had some orange slices for the first time, and she's got a bad rash again. So I guess we'll be avoiding citrus for a while longer.
Sorry for no personalized shout-outs... I LOVE all the pictures! Especially Sea Moose, LOL Hope everyone is doing well!!

maryanne Such a little personality! Love those pics!
sophia Do you get to go back for another u/s? Ambiguity is the worst.
lizard DS does the "tickle" thing too and it is so cute. It sounds like "tica, tica, tica". I think he picked it up from daycare. I too can't believe how much of a person our little ones are becoming. It is so much fun to watch!
toothbrush DS has control issues and won't allow anything in or near his mouth (or anything else for that matter) w/o permission. So no teeth brushing here. I gave him a toothbrush to "play" with in hopes that it may end up in his mouth. Nope, he brushes his hair with it
getting hurt DS fell and banged his head on concrete the other day. DH was with him and I'm glad I wasn't there because DH said the sound was not pleasant. He barely has a mark and didn't cry very much so I guess it wasn't as bad as I imagine. I can't stand him hitting his head because I worked with brain injured children and it is my worst nightmare. Brains are so important! Anything else I can handle. DH keeps reminding me that their brains are super resilient and self-healing right now. Thank god.
words Still saying "hot" on a very regular basis. It is basically his main word right now. He says "caca" (stemming from kitty cat) for any animal and "ca" for car/truck which he is obsessed over right now. He is starting to say "diaper" (di-duh) on a more regular basis. He is over his "ball" phase. I just want to know is why my child latched onto "hot" so strongly.
kissing Up until the other day DS never kisses or even attempted to kiss. So he kissed for the first time and guess what it was? Mommy...no. Daddy...nope. It was the kitty! He then tried to lick her but her long hair was not a lot of fun. Does anyone else's DC not really kiss yet?

sophia ~ Adorable! i love all her hair! She really looks like you. Do you go back for a follow-up u/s soon? I hope so. Thinking good thoughts for you!
toothbrush ~ Still no teeth, so no tooth brushing here! I think DS is now the ONLY kid in this thread with no teeth.
getting hurt ~ Not so much. He isn't walking yet (though he cruises and walks while pushing a push toy). He stumbles sometimes or falls over but he hasn't had any big boo boos yet...I'm sure our time is coming.
words ~ dada, daddy, mama, hi. That's it. He used to say ball and bye bye but not so much anymore.
kisses ~ He gives open mouth kisses on command but he has to be in the right mood ;)

I'm going away this weekend without DS and DH! I'm going to NYC to visit my cousin and have a girls' weekend. It's a practice for our big trip in October when DH and I go to a wedding in the carribean and leave DS behind. DH is in charge this weekend. This past week I went away with just DS and SIL to the beach and DH stayed home (he had to work). DS missed his daddy so much....everyone was "da? daddy? dad?" It was too cute. The reunion was so sweet...he was SO happy to see DH!

toothbrush - dd loves to mimick me with hers. She won't let me brush though. Still, it looks like she's doing something - good enough for me at this point!
words - da, ma, mommy, dada, daddy (though - I only count all those as two), duck, doe(dog), kiki (kitty), hi, Ally (her cousin), baby and my favorite two she picked up from her two year old cousin while we were in CA are my and no.
kisses - so cute when she gives them. :)
books - dd brings her favorite books to me to read to her. For Five Little Monkeys she points like I do when the Dr says "No more monkeys jumping on the bed". Cracks me up every time.

Teeth: Still just 5 (2 top,3 bottom, mostly on her left).
Milk: About 18-20 oz of goat milk/day. Some in the sippy, but most in bottles or in her Cheerios, etc. The cow milk didn't agree with her. :(
Naps: They'd gotten bad before I started working because of the double ear infection, teething, and tummy issues (she went from three 1 to 1 1/2 hour naps/day to two 1 hour naps), and now they're a disaster. My mom can only get her to nap during the day if she holds her the entire time! So she'll have one or two 30-45 minute naps/day that way. Then when we get home from work she's super cranky and tired, and we get her down for a nap in her crib for another 30-60 minutes while we make dinner. This is just to avoid a total meltdown before putting her down for the night because there's no way she'd be able to make it several more hours without rest.
Pacis: she used them as teethers off and on, but was never attached
Walking: She's all over the house now and walking around like a total pro. It's hard to believe she started so late (compared to DS & DD1).
#4: Thanks, everyone. Yes, I'm having a follow-up u/s on Friday. I went for my 2nd blood draw yesterday and will have the 3rd blood draw Monday. I haven't gotten any numbers back yet, though. I vomited Wed. night and had the dry heaves Thursday or Friday, but I also have a head cold and sore throat, so it could have been from that.
ETA: Make that 7 teeth. I noticed a little while ago that 2 more have finally cut through on top.

Hi Girls,
Congrats to all our newest RO's! Things have been crazy for us. DH has been traveling a ton and we have had a few rounds of visitors from Boston. So nice to see family!
Teeth-Livie has 4-2 middle bottom and two side top. It looks hilarious.
Walking-She has been walking for over 2 months now and is now running and moving pretty quickly.
Words-We are up to 25 now. I can't believe it! She is way more advanced than Andrew was at this age. Some of her favorite words-ball, doggy, Drew, Mama, Daddy, Bye-bye, uh-oh, hi, night-night, please.
Loving all the pictures of our growing babies!

Now that we are in the "toddler" phase, I am going to try to get better at posting here! Amelia keeps me way too busy!
Walking {: 14 months this week and still not walking. Will cruise and push a push toy, and will stand up without pulling herself up on anything. Any day now....
Teeth: 8 with both eye teeth coming in on either side!
Words: Mama, Dadda, Elmo, dog, tree, see. She also can point to her belly and nose when you ask (well, sometimes:rolleyes:)
Pacis Sadly, she has become a recent addict. She had hand foot and mouth a few weeks back and got really into it because of all the blisters in her mouth. Then, we were in DC the past week so she used it for flying, etc. I am afraid to take it away, but we mostly use it for sleep.

I haven't posted in ages...
quick update:
Walking - takes steps and stands by herself but isn't fully walking yet...I'm in no hurry!!
Teeth - still only 4
Pacis - I'm trying to give them to her less, mostly at naps & bedtime & to avoid major meltdowns.
Words - Mama, dadda, kitty (she calls EVERYTHING kitty)
Naps - knock on wood... she still takes 2 2hr naps everyday (hope I didn't just jinx it!)
Kisses - She loves to blow loud, sloppy kisses to everyone and will give us hugs and put her cheek on our shoulders...it kills me everytime!
She is obsessed with the cell phone and anything remotely shaped like one. She'll put it in the crook of her neck and talk. When she's with my mom she has a habit of calling my cell or house phone all the time when playing with her phone. (she must be hitting redial i guess)
She's also seen me scold my mom's unbelievably annoying chihuahua one too many times so she now points at the dog and yells. (oops!!)
Gotta run!

telephone DS uses the phone like that too! It is so funny. He called DH a number of times (without me knowing) and just today he had our land line on speaker and we heard "to hear about a bridge or tunnel press...". What in the world number did he call!?
I'm LOL about the phones! C left one of my girlfriends a voicemail at 7:30 a.m. one day this week !!

Hee about the phones!! What did your friend say, mkvh? Hopefully C didn't wake her up. LOL about a bridge or a tunnel, soulmate.
Braeden loves phones too. He likes hitting the #2 and then talk, which is thankfully DH's speed dial #. He also usually has a full on conversation, which includes raising his voice and throwing out a few of his baby curse words. He'll then say "bye" and hang up. It's so dramatic and it always has DH and I cracking up - which of course, leads to another "show."
Oh- and I'm very picky about what constitutes as a real word too, maybebaby. My mom claims she hears him say other words ALL.THE.TIME and I just roll my eyes!

Update:
Walking
Took first steps the day after turning 14 months. Now is walking around like a pro, even walking with things in his hands and recovering when he gets off balance - its amazing and sooo cool!!! (Linnybubbles - have no fear it will happen)
Teeth
He has two coming in on top which will give him 7 now. 4 on the top and 3 on the bottom.
Words
Mama, daddy, kitty (he calls ALL ANIMALS kittys), bye, hello (with the phone to his ear), nana (for banana), more (while signing it too).
Naps
He still takes two 2+ hr naps most days (as long as I don't mess up his schedule)
Kisses
He has yet to get the kissing thing, but he LOVES to give hugs and pat us on the back while doing it. (Soulmate you aren't alone...)
Phone
He is obsessed with the cell phone/phone and anything remotely shaped like one. He'll put it in the crook of his neck or near his ear and talk. He's called 911 already while at my mothers when I was using the bathroom, also has called mom and brother to by using the re-dial feature.

Need to update my age!
Me: 28
DH: 32
I'll try to catch up with all of the topics discussed here. So much going on...
Walking- Nope, not yet. She is pulling up on everything now. And yesterday she took a few cruising steps at the couch towards DH. Mostly she screams if we try to encourage her to cruise.
Teeth- Six teeth, two on the bottom and 4 on top. Nothing new for quite a few months though. We brush about every other day (or when her breath seems stinky) with a finger brusher. Sometimes she loves it, sometimes she refuses.
Kisses- Yes, open mouth, fish-like kisses. Mostly to me, sometimes to others. She also "blows" kisses, if you do it to her first. But she uses the back of her hand.
Words- Not very many. Forms of momma and dadda, uh-oh, yeah and something that might be duck or dog (sounds like du). But she will try to repeat things we say, just doesn't associate them with anything.
Naps- At day care about 1-1.5 hrs. On the weekends, she'll nap twice, most times 2 hours each. It is heavenly!
I had a Bad Parent moment this weekend. My DD tasted her own poop! After her bath Friday night, we didn't put her PJs on right away, just put on a diaper and t-shirt. We were playing in the living room and I had looked away for a minute and when I looked back she was making the most sour face. Then I noticed something on the floor next to her. She made a poop which come out of the diaper and onto the floor (hardwood thankfully), she had gotten her hand in it and tasted it. Poor thing! I rushed around getting her cleaned up. To make it even worse, by the time I got back downstairs, our dogs had licked up all the poop! What a night!!!!

Hi all! Just "joining" the thread (well, lurking mainly). My DS is a year (9/5/06), and since the Sept & Oct threads are combining now, I thought I would join both groups, since DS is really right in the middle. Some of the stuff you gals are discussing are applicable, while some of the Sept/Oct stuff is too.
Anyway, to introduce ourselves...
Me: Jen, 32
DS: 9/5/06
Other children: DD 3/16/05
DS - He was a skinny boy (didn't gain any weight from 4 - 8 months), breastfed (we are just starting the weaning...cut out my first real session today, last week I cut out a pumping session), has 8 teeth (yes, 8! My DD only had maybe 2 at her first birthday.) He is starting to walk, just a few steps at a time, but has been cruising very quickly & comfortably now for months. He still naps 2 times, usually about 1 - 1.5 hours each time, and sleeps from about 6:30 - 6:30. Words - pretty much just mamamamamama and dadadadadada. Though when I ask if he goes poop, he kinda tries to say that too, more like pft.
Thanks for letting me kind of "tag along!" :)

Toothbrushing-I'm so happy to hear that most of the babies won't let you brush their teeth. K will happily "brush" them herself, but won't let me get near her with the toothbrush. I have horrible teeth, so I'm a little paranoid about her ending up with lots of cavities.
phones-Oh, K's a phone-lover. She's broken three cell phones in the last year. Baby slobber + cell phone = bad. Oddly enough, it's only my phones that she breaks. She can play with DH's all day long and it stays working.
Kisses-K's a big kisser. We were at the mall the other day and she went up and kissed a little boy who was standing near us in Gymboree :)
Words-mama, daddy, grandma, bailey (our dog), more, bite, yummy, and uh-oh. She also signs "all done" and "more"
naps-one a day, usually from 1-3.
Sophia- Love the pics, I can't get over how much hair she has!! I hope everything turns out okay with the pregnancy--keep us updated.
Cute pic, Maryanne. DD is also obsessed with shoes and purses.

LMAO!! I have been reading along but I have to say that is hysterical!! I love that he says "bye" after all the yelling/baby words!:p

I have been back to work since the first of August, and life hasn't been busier! We celebrated Liam's first birthday and had his baptism all the same day! Throw into that the family picture shoot that was supposed to happen the day before, but couldn't because of the downpours all day, it was a chaotic day for us all. But Liam survived like a trooper, and even gave his mommy and daddy a gift by starting to FINALLY STTN! It only took 1 year and 2 + weeks, but he finally did it!
I will try to get back soon and post pictures, but my DH has gone out to sea, and I have the kids in bed and I need to get there myself, the days are really long with him gone!
I can't believe they are all toddlers now! EEK!

Hi mamas. I was threadmistress of the Sept 06 babies thread until just recently, when we combined with the October group. My son Oliver was born on August 26th, so I really should be here, anyway. I just never got around to joining you! But I am now. Here are my stats and the video montage (http://www.onetruemedia.com/my_shared?z=17d461ccca872aeec45e31&utm_source=otm&utm_medium=text_url) I made for Ovi's (ah-vee's) birthday-- that should make up for all the photos I didn't post with you guys over the last year! :)

Toothbrushing J will allow me to brush her teeth and even her tongue for a limited amount of time before she is grabbing the toothrbush from my hand and "brushing" on her own. lol.
words mama, dada, kaka (mr. yuck), more, please, pepper (all fruit and veggies), fish (she loves her goldfish). I think there's more, but that's all I can think of right now.
kisses she gives them all the time. Hugs, too. It's my most favorite thing in the world. :D
The pictures are great, everyone!!
J is officially walking full-time at 14.5 months. She took her first unassisted steps on August 2, then only here and there (maybe five times total) until Saturday when she just up and walked on her own. I got a video of it tonight. She's pretty good for just up and doing it three days ago. Check it out:

Aletheia ~ Welcome! I loved watching your video/photo montage! Ovi is so adorable :)
Mystikal ~ YAY for walking!!

I know I sound like a broken record, but DS will be 13 mo tomorrow and is still toothless. I know we really don't have to worry until 15 or 16 mo, but I mean, really!? What's going on in that little mouth of his?!
But he is working on walking and literally spends the entire day walking with the assistance of a push toy. If you take away the toy, he FREAKS. And he also acts like he has no idea how to walk without it. Puh-leeze! ;) One of these days he is just going to let go and start walking by himself. He is also starting to stand by himself for longer periods of time.

Aletheia - Welcome! I love the video montage
Babylove - Sorry about no teeth yet :(
As for us.....As you can tell from my signature, we've got another RO on our hands. We are extremely excited, but I can tell the next couple of months are going to be challenging taking care of a toddler - especially the couple hours I have her to myself when I get home from work.
E is still cruising like a mad woman and loves to "walk" on her knees. Occasionally she'll let go for a second, but doesn't seem in any hurry to walk, which is okay. She is such a chatterbox, which is great, except at 3:00 am.
GOOOOO JULIA!
Welcome Alethia!!
babylove--UGH! That little stinker probably is going to get a ton at once. Sorry you're worrying a bit.
jessey--CONGRATS!! I wonder if we've set a record for ROs at 13-14 months...it certainly seems like we've got a lot in here!
GRRRRR....I *think* we are transitioning to one nap. I am sooo not ready for that. I really like our schedule. :( Yesterday and now today she has spent an hour playing in her crib at her normal 10ish a.m. nap time. Yesterday, she actually hard-core refused to nap till I couldn't take it and put her in the car at 2:30. She did end up getting a nearly 2 hour nap and went to bed easily. I hate to see what today holds. Refusing sleep is the #1 thing that drives me insane!

Sorry you're worrying about the teeth. Did you think about taking DC to a dentist?? I'm sure that mkvh is right they'll all come in at once.
jessey
CONGRATS!! Wow, everyone seems to be getting pregnant again... Makes me think we should start earlier than we were planning, although I just have issues with depriving J of his precious time with us as an only child.
mkvh
Sounds like our nap schedules are similar. Sorry to hear about the refusing of the nap - I'm having the same issue but I know what is causing it. I am trying to start the weaning process and that nap is the only one I'm not nursing him for. It is driving me a bit crazy at the moment too, so I can sympathize.
Dropping off a video of Jacob walking too!!! He is even more stable now than when this was taken this past weekend.

Forgot to post earlier...
Jacob was the same way with the push toy and so we waited till he went to bed one night and hid it down the basement and then it wasn't long before he took his first steps. They need that push and to learn they don't need it and then they'll walk on their own. You might want to try this, we are convinced that Jacob would have been walking earlier had we done this a week or so before.

Quick Drive by
Babylove - Don't worry about the teeth. N is older than J and just got 2 at once when he was 1 week shy of 14 months. Now he's working on molars, silly child!! It'll happen, and probably a bunch at once!!
jesseybell

Walking on their knees - Is this a normal part of the process? E spends 1/2 her time with her push toy on her knees (if she can't get the traction to pull herself up on the slippery hardwoods) and half walking. Now she has learned to "walk" on her knees on her own, so she won't go for the pushtoy unless I give it to her. She still is cruising a lot, and crawls when she wants to get somewhere quickly. I just hadn't seen a child walk on their knees before so I didn't know if all kids do it?

Thanks for the warm welcomes, mamas! :D
Walking- Ovi started walking at 11.5 months and is now working on running. Yesterday he was running down the hall and veered into the wall on the right... hit his head, and bounced so hard off of the wall that he crashed into the wall on the LEFT. He has a HUGE bruise on his forehead. His legs and arms are also covered with bruises from climbing into things and onto things. I'm sure all the mamas at the playground think we're beating him.
Soulmate- Yes, lots of photos of the bare butt. And get this... right before I finalized the montage I went through and replaced 3 other photos of his butt with clothed pictures. :) I can't help myself... it's so cute! And since he's an EC'd or diaper free babe, he's running around naked a lot.
Naps- We had started to go to one nap, and it totally sucked. But we are spending 6 weeks in a tiny town at a much higher elevation (less oxygen) and Ovi is running... and he seems to now want to go back to two naps a day. He may also be having a growth spurt. Which would be good since he still isn't on the weight chart. He doesn't slow down enough to gain any weight.
Sleeping- Ok, so who has a kid who still wakes up every 2 or 3 hours all night long? Just curious.
Sophia

Babylove: DS didn't cut teeth till really late, too. I know it starts feeling like maybe there's something wrong, but the teeth are in there and they will come out when they're ready. :)

jesseybell ~ CONGRATS!!
mkvh ~ I hope the nap issues are just temporary...I don't even want to think about what it will be like when DS gives up his naps. Oy!
sunchaser ~ We will take DS to the dentist if he still doesn't have any teeth by 15 or 16 mo. I had a dentist appt today and asked about Ds and the dentist wasn't concerned at all...so that's good. Good point about taking away the push toy...we might try that!
Soulmate ~ DS isn't even walking yet and we can't eat out anymore. He refuses to sit for longer than it takes to shovel some food in his mouth and quell is hunger.
mmisabel ~ Thanks for the encouragement! I swear, it feels like I'm the only mom on CC whose kid doesn't have teeth at this age!
Aletheia ~ Diaper-free, eh? Interesting...tell me more! What do you do when you go out?? Gosh, still walking up 2-3 hours at night? Does he get a bottle/nurse when he wakes up?
Sophia ~ Thanks for the encouragement re: teeth. It really made me feel better. As for your update, did the tech note whether anything has grown since the last u/s? I'm hoping for the best for you...I guess it's good news that your betas are increasing, right??

Jesseybell - Congrats! I admit I've been stalking your chart and I thought it looked really good :) As for walking on the knees - B did this for a few weeks before he started walking full time. For him it was quicker than walking, but still gave him the same vantage point. He'll still do it every now and then, especially if he's tired (though not on the tile!).
Sophia - I'm sorry you still didn't any confirmation at your appt today :( I thinking of you!
Aletheia - Welcome! Ovi is ADORABLE. I love the montage - thanks for sharing!
Mystikal/Sunchaser - Yay for walking!! Let the fun begin :)
Naps - Count us in as part of the 1 nap transition crew! It's been touch and go for the past few weeks, but he's been really good this week. He does get a little cranky in the evenings, especially if he only naps for 2 hours, but if that happens I just put him to bed a little earlier (by like 15-20 minutes).
Phone Video - Here's a video of him on the phone. I didn't catch him hanging up (mainly because I would have been recording him for like 5 minutes), but he is yelling... at someone! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-455651909381352540

MystikalJ is really good at walking for only doing it for 3 days!
maryanne Love the berry picture! :) We took pictures of DD the other day with spaghetti sauce all over her!
makena32204 Hope you had a good trip!
duke's flygirl Yay for Liam STTN! I hope your DH isn't gone too long! That would be tough.
Koala_Gurl Welcome!
naps E is trying to drop down to 1 nap too. It is actually easier for me, because if she takes 2 they are only an hour long. If she takes 1, it is usually 2 hours. She has been going to bed about an hour earlier too, which is good!
sleeping E is still waking a lot at night. I can't really say she "wakes up" though, because she just rouses enough to nurse. Typically, she will sleep for 4-5 hours in her crib next to our bed, and then wake to nurse. I bring her into bed with us, then she wakes every 2 hours to nurse after that until she is up for the day. Since she doesn't stay awake and party and since we cosleep most of the night, it doesn't really bother me.
words DD says "Hi" now! She has been mimicing us for about a week now, but the other day we were at Old Navy and she waved and said "Hi!" to one of the employees. It was really cute, even though the lady didn't hear her.
kisses DD loves to give big sloppy kisses. She gives hugs too. It is so sweet!

Teeth: working on #13 - he has all four top and bottoms, his first molar both sides top and bottom, and the next molar on the left bottom coming in to - the molars are AWFUL ya'll!!!
Milk: probably 18-24 oz. a day - whatever the nuby cup is x 3 usually. Plus still nursing 5+ times a day and 3 or so times a night.
Naps: Usually a 1-2 hour one around 10:30 in the morning, then a 1 hour around 4pm.
Pacis: never would use one so i don't have to worry about it!
Walking: yup - 13m to the day he just took off.
Shoes I have the hardest time getting him in and keeping him in shoes - he's never worn them so he is very awkward in them.
Phones: One of his favorite things. We gave him an old cordless and an old cell phone, but he likes our cause they beep. He has a little toy phone that beeps, but it's more fun when you hear the "if you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again" woman, apparently.
As for any other news, we're moving soon - we have our house on the market as of tuesday! we'll see what happens though. He's into EVERYTHING - yesterday he had the toilet lid up, all the tp off the roll in the floor, and was happily splashing water all over the tp. Oh, and he took the lid off the vinegar when dh left the pantry open - yeah that was a stinky mess - he was sititng in the middle of the puddle. I have a really clean floor though. :)

Congrats to all the RO's!!!!! It is hard but I love seeing my two youngest play and interract together, it's so adorable. My oldest never had that and I wish she did. Although, I will admit, there were times in the beginning (and still) where I will curse and ask myself what the $*@& was I thinking - ha ha ha!!!!
naps - Still have 2 naps a day here. I will cry when it goes down to one nap! She usually sleeps from 9:30-11:00 and then 2:30-4:30. Goes down to bed at 8pm and is up at 7:00-7:30am.
words - mama, dada, hi (although hasn't said that for a while), wazdat (what's that I assume since she's pointing when she says it).
kisses - Allison loves to give open mouth kisses all the time. If she sees anyone else kiss she must kiss that person also. If you say "mwah" to her she will kiss on command too. She's a big hugger too.
I have a question for you that are still breastfeeding...how often are you nursing? I am pretty much down to just morning and before bed. She is so distracted and unless I am in her room with the door closed she wants no part of it. She refuses the frozen EBM that I have from a cup and we are done with bottles since she never really took them anyway. She will drink some cow's milk & diluted juice from a cup but not EBM? She eats yogurt & cheese so I know she's getting her dairy I just worry she's getting enough....

Teeth Julia has 4 on top, three in the middle on the bottom, and another one further off to the side on the bottom, so 8 total.
Phones she LOVES our cell phones, but we have to make sure they are locked now if we let her play with them. We are on the east coast, and she called my cousins fiancee one morning at 5:00 am our time, so it was 2:00 am out there! lmao.
Naps just one a day, and has been that way since around 10 months, believe it or not!!
Walking Just started last Saturday and she's a pro already.
Bottles we are trying so hard to wean her from the bottle. Usually she does just fine, but at night if she wakes up she will REFUSE to go back to sleep without one. I usually just put 1 oz of milk and then 3 oz of water and it's fine. I figure by diluting the milk that much maybe I won't have to worry as much about the sugars on her teeth??
RO's congrats to all of you! I can't believe we have so many. I give you all a lot of respect. I used to think I'd want a big family, but now when I think of having another baby I just get sad because Julia won't be my one and only, and I get FREAKED OUT by how much harder it will be. We are planning on TTC again next summer if I lose all the weight I need to lose, but we'll see if I'm over my freak-out yet. lol. ;)

Sabriel ~ How cute that she says hi!
mrstim ~ Wow! So many teeth!
K&Hs mommy ~ We still nurse 2X per day (morning at wake up and night before bed). Jake would always take defrosted EBM and still does since I still have some in the freezer. I asked our ped how much dairy Jake should be getting at age one and he said only 14-16 oz per day is necessary and that includes sources other than milk (cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc.). Apparently, their dairy needs are much less after they hit one. And as long as youre nursing 2X a day, that is still nutritionally significant. In addition to nursing, Jake gets one 12 oz sippy of milk all day long (meaning, I don't re-fill it) and one 12 oz sippy of water (I will re-fill if he finishes it) PLUS yogurt, cheese, etc.
cocoa_femme ~ Jake likes only "real" phones too. If you remove the battery he gets pissed!
Mystikal ~ I'm with you on TTC, maybe we'll be in the same thread again! :)
***
teeth ~ Zip.
phones ~ LOVES them. We have a bunch of our old cell phones that he likes to play with.
Naps ~ Still 2 naps per day (9:30 for a hour and then 1:30 for 1.5-2 hrs). I will cry when he drops to one!
Walking ~ He walks GREAT with his push toy, but not at all without it. He has taken a couple of steps here and there but I wouldn't even consider those his "first steps" yet. I think he's close though.
Bottles ~ We ditched them at 11 mo and haven't looked back.
Paci ~ Yup. Only during naps and at night though. THe ped wants it gone by 18 mo but I doubt that will happen ;)

nursing - Like Jennylou my DS is a nursing fool and asks to nurse a million times a day. If I get him from his crib in the morning the first thing he does is says hi and signs for milk, when I pick him up from the sitters he does the same thing and then proceeds to "feel me up" I used to roll my eyes when I saw babies/kids attempting to lift their mom's shirt up to eat and here I am with a son who does it. Ahhh - how motherhood changes your perspective on things! During the week, I generally nurse him 2-3 times a day and if he wakes up at night (which, thankfully is rare these days). During the weekend it's more like 4-5.

Wrighty ~ I have one of those kids too ;) He's constantly pulling at my shirt and feeling me up, and we haven't nursed during the day in 2 months! Weaning is going to be fun!
Interestingly, if I offer the boob during the day when he pulls on my shirt, he doesn't want it. He just cracks up laughing and pokes my nipple! LOL!

Sophia - I hope everything works out for you. Fingers crossed!
Jessey - Congrats!! So exciting!
Wrighty - that video is hysterical. I swear he says "where are you" at 1st!!
We were dealing with some night wakings the past week, so it's been a bit of hell. BUT, last night he STTN'd so I'm hoping! We spotted a molar so that's probably the culprit.
paci - my goal is to lose it by 18 months, but he is becoming more of an addict by the day (we only give it for sleep/naps). He wants to keep it in when he wakes up and really looks for it. It will be a battle that I'm dreading.

LOL--Kate does the same thing :D
Nursing-She generally nurses in the morning, before nap, and before bed. Sometimes we skip the before nap or bed session, but she's totally attached to the wake up session.
Milk-she's not too fond of it. She'll drink it if I'm not around, but it takes her an entire day to finish an 8 oz. sippee of it. She doesn't like cheese either, so I'm a bit concerned about her calcium intake. I just discovered that she likes the drinkable yogurt, so I guess that'll be our way to get some dairy into her.
love the shirt, emmjay!

emmjay- what a cute shirt on an even cuter kid!
nursing- DS is teeny- weighs about 17 pounds at almost 13 months. He is usually too busy to nurse for long during the day, so makes up for it at night. What's super cute is that once he started walking for real about 2 months ago, he also started comfort nursing again. He hasn't comfort nursed during the day since he was 2 or 3 months old! I love it. It's so nice to just sit on the couch and make faces at him while he is so relaxed and content to sit still for a while!
weaning That is, I think ,super far away for us. By choice. He mostly self-feeds solid foods, so he's still not getting a lot of calories that way.
milk- Is anyone else dealing with a milk allergy? He's dairy/tree nuts/egg whites allergic. I'm constantly trying to figure out how to get more fat into his diet (we're adding flax seed oil this week.)
RO's- I agree with Mystikal about the respect due you guys! I am so not in a place that lets me even think about being PG again. And the thought of having a newborn with a two year old makes me tired all over. Plus... I don't have AF back yet! So Team RO is not one I'll be joining any time soon.

Just a drive-by to say I had a m/c last night. It's not confirmed yet, but given the multiple red flags and the pain and heavy bleeding last night, I'm 99.9% sure. Details in the April 2008 and Miscarriage Support threads.

sophia I'm so sorry :( That is just heartbreaking. I'm keeping you and your family in my thoughts.
nagging I don't know if I'm nagging necessarily but I am much more irritable since having DS. A friend once joked that they could synthesize Prozac from my blood because I was always happy and laid-back. With AF and O I would get uber affectionate...not irritable. But now I snap at DH more easily and just get in foul moods. I guess I do get naggy. I think that having DS has regulated my hormones in some way. I think how non-effected I was by AF indicated a hormone issue (took 16 cycles to get pregnant so something was up). But having a baby will wreak havoc on your hormones and probably for quite some time especially while still BFing. I try to hold as much as I can in but sometimes it gets really hard especially when I am stressed.
DS has developed this very strange affinity for laundry and clothes. Last night he stole some of the clean laundry I was folding and threw it on the ground. He then proceeded to belly flop on it while laughing and rubbed it against his face. Whenever there is clothes on the floor he does this (lay on it on his belly). It is actually pretty strange when you see it.

I'm so sorry, Sophia. :(
We had a really great weekend. DD tantrums are still present but I find that she gts over them much quicker. We just lay her down on the floor (she refuses to sit) and we just walk away. She usually calms herself down and starts something new.
We had so much fun at the playground yesterday. She loved the swings and the twisy slides. She also loved just crawling around and picking up leaves and crab apples.
We are now really transitioning into cruising mode. She doesn't like it but she was will take a few steps here and there hanging on to the couch or cupboards. At the park she cruised the whole length of a bench. And her standing is getting much steadier. She only holds on with one hand, if anything.
I was so excited on Friday when I picked her up at daycare. She was over in the 1 year old room playing with some of her old buddies. She was in heaven, crawling and standing all over the place. It was so new and crazy to her. She didn't want to go home! And I saw they put her name on a cubby for the 1 year old room. Hopefully she will be making the transition soon and I will be SOOOOO excited!!!!

Thanks, everyone. I went to the OB today and had an extended u/s which showed my uterus is clear. I'm doing relatively well both physically and emotionally. I'll take at least one more day off work. DH stayed with me today.
Lili has been sick. DH took her to the ped Saturday (a different one we've used on Saturday before because our usual one isn't open Sat.) and she has a sinus infection. She got a Rx for Zithromax and we've been using Baby Vicks and a Pediacare vapor nightlight at night, and she's been feeling better.
Anyone else have a recent walker suddenly start falling a lot? She's been tripping and has gotten a couple bruises. :( We were sure the ped would find another ear infection, but he said maybe she's just gotten over-confident about her walking.

sophia Wow, I'm sorry Lili's sick right now- I'm sure that doesn't make things easier! It sounds like you're handling everything as well as can be expected. I'm sure it helps to have your DH there with you and to take some time off work.
CRANKY toddler! Anyone have a suddenly super-cranky toddler? We are in serious tantrum-ville. Like, if she's doing something and we take it away from her, she throws a class-5 fit, complete with banging of the little fists on the ground. She's getting a ton of back teeth right now, which I know are super uncomfortable but jeeeez. Her fuse is so short! I feel bad, but it's kind of comical when she just completely loses it. DH and I have to hide our faces because inevitably we crack up. She's so dramatic!

Sophia - As always, you are handling this with much grace and strength. This is so heartbreaking :( I'm glad your DH has been staying home with you. I'm sorry to hear that on top of this Lili is sick. Ugh! As for falling - Braeden is bonking his head left and right these days. We went to visit a friend on Saturday and the first thing he did was body slam himself to the ground (he has a nice purple bruise on his forehead now ). My friend has a daughter a couple of months younger - but she was freaking out! He's fine, and I think she was overreacting a bit, but it's never fun to see.
Cranky Toddler - Yep... we are there too. B is most definitely getting his molars in (still) and has been SO cranky lately. We call him a drama king. If you can't reach a toy - crying, falls on his butt - crying, mama doesn't pick him up - crying. Between the teething and 1-nap transition it is NOT pretty in our house.
Of course there are times when he is SOOOO sweet (especially after he takes a ridiculously long nap!). Today he wanted only mama to read him not one, but two books. This is completely unheard of in our house -- usually he just wants to go, go, go (and lasts about 2 pages into a book). I enjoy the moments when I can.

Falling I detailed it a while back but...oh yes. It has gotten much better since he figured out how to fall better and catch himself. Now he fake falls all the time and goes "uh uh" (his version of "uh oh"). But his forehead is finally clearing up and he had a really bad nasty bruised nose from one fall. He even took a nose dive on concrete while with DH. Glad I wasn't there.
cranky toddler Tonight has been bad. He's been throwing tantrums over the smallest thing. I put him to bed and he started screaming. I went to check on him and he was so upset that he couldn't touch the knob on his closet doors  Yesterday he threw a HUGE fit because I gave him a waffle for breakfast. He gets so upset that he forgets why he is upset and gets for real upset and needs me to help calm him down. I too think it is the molars to blame. Poor guy.
Sunday we took DS out to a football field at a local park so he could walk to his hearts desire and not have tree roots to trip over. DH got some really great pics!

Well, I guess it's a relief to see L isn't the only one falling and getting bruises. The thing is, she used to be better about catching herself. Maybe the ped was right and she's gotten over-confident. She has a touch of that crying-over-every-little-thing, too. It's so frustrating.

Sophia - S falls often too because he tries to run without being careful of where he is going (and he has less control when he runs as well). I made a comment to DH before his 1-yr WBV that I was afraid the doctor was going to say something to me! He has fallen and cut right above his eye on an iron floor lamp, he cut right below his eye and on his face after falling onto our baseboard heater, he has had a couple of goose eggs and he constantly has bruises and scratches all over.
His latest thing is when he bangs his head on something - the corner of the wall, the bookcase, etc. - and I go over to comfort him, he starts *trying* to bang his head on it again in the same spot! I think it's because he wants attention and he sees that I come running over when he does it, so he does it again. He has also started banging his head on the mesh gate going into the kitchen when he wants to eat and we aren't hopping to it fast enough, and occasionally when DH and I aren't playing with him and having a conversation between the two of us. This all started after we got back from visiting family for 5 weeks - now he isn't getting ridiculous amounts of attention any more like he was a couple of weeks ago, so I think he is wondering what the heck is going on. At least he stops if I distract him with a toy or something.
We are doing "bottle boot camp" this weekend. I am dreading it! He refuses to drink milk from a sippy cup so I don't think it's going to go well. I'm trying to prepare him this week by a) offering him the milk in a sippy at every meal and b) reading him a book in between bottle and bed so he gets used to having a book right before bed instead of milk.
Sophia--I am so very sorry and also want to commend you for the grace and strength you show. I hope that you and DH take good care of each other during this difficult time.
Soulmate--L is sooo cute! He looks like such a little man with that haircut.
emmjay--Good luck with the sippy transition!
Cranky--Temper tantrums for SURE. We tend to ignore most of the yelling and ask her calmly to use her words/signs. Definitely don't want to reinforce the fit throwing... ;)
Falling--Yeah, we went thru that too. There were days that C would hit her head multiple times. Her first b-day invites have a lovely bruise right between her eyes!
We're going thru quite the verbal explosion around here. I think she's picked up about 5 new words in the last week, maybe more. And a new sign (help). AND we got TOOTH #7!

RO's I have a question...
How many of you had a period before TTC for #2? I have yet to have a PP period and am still nursing 3 times a day. DH wants to start TTC soon and I thought I would start charting but due to nursing not sure temps would work well and so far CM isn't easy. Although it was better after I started the green tea - which I plan to start this weekend.
Also did anyone see Oprah yesterday? She had a special with Jenny McCarthy on autism, it scared me a bit since it can happen anytime between birth and age 3 and she thinks it might be linked to the MMR shot. I had heard this before and mentioned it before the shot was given to my ped and she basically laughed at me, saying that it was unfounded and silly. Now I'm a little upset and wondering if I should look into getting another ped especially for baby #2.

Thanks for the compliments on DS. His haircut is a story in itself. His hair grows funny (his "bangs" don't grow at all and have never been cut, just the crown, nape, and sideburns grow) so we keep it really short. We use clippers and took him to get a pro cut with scissors and no matter what he screams like he is being tortured. For weeks afterwards he'll cry when we wash his hair
sophia I know you've struggled so much with m/c's and I'm sorry. Lili is such a little miracle to be cherished. Nothing can take away the pain of losing a baby.
sunchaser For some reason the Oprah here had Dr. Oz on  But autism scares the holy crap out of me. She had another show about it and even had a ped very prominent in the field of Autism as she has autistic kids herself. But even that ped poo poo'ed the vaccination theory. I don't know of a ped who supports it. I've read a bit about it but am not horribly knowledgeable. The only argument supporting vaxes is that autism existed before the MMR vax, no correlation has been found between the vaxs and autism, and since the change they made (removed mercury I believe) autism rates continued to increase. They know that there is a genetic component and something in the environment triggers it but they don't know the environmental cause. My ped didn't even tell me the side-effects of the MMR and when I brought him in 10 days later with a huge fever (a common side effect) she told me it was hand, foot, and mouth disease  Maybe that is why I've been procrastinating in scheduling his 15 month. Anyway, parent's with kids with autism swear by the vax connection saying that the changes occurred right after the shot. That has to have some value. DS got it and is ok so I am just grateful.

Thanks for the information, I didn't watch the whole thing because it was making me upset since it is 4 times more prevelant in boys and my DS had the shot too. I TIVO'ed it to watch with DH. As far as I can tell he is fine, talking walking, making eye contact, etc. With baby #2 I think I'm going to be more cautious and wait on that vax, especially if it is a boy.

Autism link-Girls, just thought I would add my two cents. DH works for a company that sells a drug that treats the symptoms of Autism in children. Of course, there is no cure! There have been tons of studies and no link has been found. Many people like to attribute it to the vacination but the truth is that most symptoms start to be easily identifiable around the age when the vaccination is given. It is still really scary!
Sunchaser-Some people don't get their period back until they are completely done breastfeeding. With my son, I stopped nursing in June and did not get my period until Sept. DD was conceived right after that first period. It is really different for everyone. I know many people that got their period while they were still nursing.

sunchaser I found this...
Autism is a developmental disorder. Children with autism usually have trouble communicating verbally and non-verbally and experience difficulty interacting socially.
The media reported that there was a link between MMR and autism following the publication of a paper by Dr Wakefield, in The Lancet (a medical journal) in 1998.
Dr Wakefield’s theory was that the MMR vaccine might lead to gut inflammation, which decreases the amount of vitamins and nutrients that children can absorb. As a result, he suggested, this might cause developmental disorders such as autism. This theory was based on two studies involving 25 children.
Dr Wakefield’s study was of poor quality because it included only vaccinated children and was based primarily on what parents could remember. Parents understandably are more likely to link changes in behaviour with memorable events like vaccination.
A number of much better designed studies, involving large numbers of both vaccinated and unvaccinated children, have tested this theory. These studies have concluded that there is no link between MMR vaccine and autism. The best study looked at autism and MMR vaccination in all children born in Denmark over a number of years. No link was found.
In March 2004, 10 of the 12 researchers who worked with Dr Wakefield published a retraction in the Lancet stating that "no causal link was established between MMR vaccine and autism as the data were insufficient". From this site that was linked the the CDC site and it is a sort of MMR Decision Aid (http://www.ncirs.usyd.edu.au/decisionaid/howtouse.html).

Autism/MMR - Just from a personal standpoint... my coworker has 2 autistic children. One was given the MMR and the other was not because of the findings, etc. The child who has NOT given the shot is less functioning than the one who did (the one who did goes to a regular public school and you probably wouldn't know he is autistic at first glance). I know this proves nothing - except that you really can't "prevent" it if your family is predispositioned to it. Of course, I'm not saying I didn't freak out and have my doubts too -- and I will be postponing until at least 15-18 months when I have #2, but not because of any links to autism. That's just a tough shot to give at 12 months!
emmjay
09-19-2007, 12:40 PM
MMR/autism - We were just talking about this last night - we got S vaxed for everything up to 6 months, and then we haven't gotten any vaxes since. My head tells me that there probably isn't a connection between MMR and autism, but I am scared to death to give it to DS anyway. We are delaying his vaxes from now on and will delay with #2 as well. Dr. Sears is coming out with a book The Vaccine Book (http://www.amazon.com/Vaccine-Book-Making-Right-Decision/dp/0316017507/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-2954730-0679004?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190230577&sr=8-1) in October, and I think he is pretty balanced so I'm getting that to see what he has to say. I think many vaccinations are important to get (some not so important) but I don't think they all need to be crammed in before babies are 2 yrs old. I'm definitely not anti-vax and will probably get just about all of them for my kids before they start school, but that MMR just freaks me out and I would feel better delaying it until S is a bit older.
I watched that Oprah and my impression was that Jenny McCarthy's son had a lot of signs of autism prior to the MMR shot, but she thinks the MMR is what really triggered it. Like at around 1-yr, he would just line up his toys in straight lines instead of playing with them, or would turn his cars over and spin the wheels and stare at them for a long time. And a lot of hand-flapping. She said after the MMR was when he really withdrew and stopped smiling/making eye contact.
Abby'sMom

Autism/MMR - Both of my kids have had all vaccinations on schedule. I asked their ped, just out of curiosity, about the supposed link between the two, and he didn't deny that there IS a link. BUT it's a link when there's already a genetic predisposition for autism in the child's code. I'd rather my own kids be protected from diseases than worry over whether or not there's a genetic predisposition for autism in either my family or DH's. But of course, it's up to each family to decide what they're comfortable with doing.

I agree with emmjay that Jenny's son had signs before the shot and pretty strong ones at that. This is true for a lot of autism cases as signs can be seen as young as 6 mos. But I also trust that she noticed her son's spark left after the shot. I hate that there is no answer that mom's can be "poisoning" their children and not even know it. I like that Jenny said that the vax schedule is not one size fits all. Some kids handle it w/o any complications...some don't and there is no way to tell which side of the coin your child will fall.
I said before autism scares the begezus out of me but I think Oprah's show really helped relieve some of that fear. I totally related to Jenny when she said she just knew that, that was not her son and something was wrong. I had the same exact feeling when DS just started screaming all the time on day 2. The ped kept telling me that babies cry and there is no "normal". I kept getting brushed off but I saw my son on his first day of life and that was not him. I researched (thank you CC and google!!) and found the answer and brought it to the ped and only then did she treat him. Oprah's show helped me see that if DS or #2 were to get autism, I could handle it and would fight like mad for my child. I totally cried too when Oprah said "what would you do for your child?". I'd give up everything so I know that we'd be ok. But holy moley is 1 in 94 boys a very scary statistic!
My instincts tell me that autism is a evolutionary thing. I think that it is an adaptive response of some sort. The extreme cases are not what is needed but looking at Darwinism...they will not procreate either. Like Jenny said, some very brilliant people who contributed a lot are on the spectrum. I think the more mild cases are what is needed for some reason. And I'm sure there is an evolutionary reason why more boys have it. But 1 in 150/1 in 94 is a huge number. As time goes on a pretty significant portion of society will be on the spectrum.

Soulmate - I have heard (but I don't know how true it is) that the "blood-brain barrier" in boys does not strengthen/close until later so they are more susceptible to being affected by metals and toxins as babies. And that boys are actually the weaker sex in a lot of ways and are more fragile in general than girls are. My BIL was saying something about it having to do with having XY chromosomes instead of XX, but I really haven't looked into it. But I agree that there must be some kind of biological and/or evolutionary background to it.
My doula and I use the same ped practice and we were talking about how neither of us want to be one of *those* parents when it comes to vaxes, but we are both delaying. I, like all other parents, want to do the right thing for my kids but I feel frustrated because I don't know what the right thing is.

Autism scares me. I have a first cousin who has autism. And, while some poo poo the idea that the MMR causes autism, there are so many parents who swear by it. I'm in the camp that perhaps MMR doesn't cause autism, but sort of causes it to show up. Anyways, my ped doesn't give the shot until 15 months, but she's completely fine with us delaying until 18 months or even two years, should we want to wait. We'll probably wait until DD is two - with the side effects, I'd just rather her be able to tell me how she's feeling, kwim?

My pediatrician is like jennylou's that he doesn't give the shot until 15 months, but because I questioned him not doing it at 12 months (ie he knew I had done some reading about it) he said we could delay until 18 months if we wanted, so that's what we are going to do.

Sign me up as another parent who is scared of the possible correlation between Autism and the MMR. I'm a pediatric Occupational Therapist and about 75% of my case load (when I was working) was boys with Autism. I know that so many studies have shown there to be no correlation, but I can't tell you the number of parents who told me that their child began showing symptoms almost immediatly after the MMR. Like others have stated, I think that some people just have the genetic code for it and the MMR only "brings it out" somehow, but still I delayed it for DD (until age 2) and will do the same for J. I delay several of the vaxes though (Hep B, Hep A and CP) just b/c the risk of my kids getting Hep B/Hep A at this age is so slim and I'd actually rather them get CP naturally rather than have the vax. They will both be all caught up by the time they start school.

Autism ~ My BF's 6 yr old son is on the spectrum (sort of...it's a long story) and as a result, I am hypersensitive to the Autism issue. I have already discussed early screening for DS with the ped. I asked about the connection between the MMR and Autism and he also dismissed it. He cited studies in England in which kids were not given the MMR or the shots were spaced out (M, M, R separately) and it proved nothing whatsoever regarding a connection to Autism. In addition, our practice doesn't supply the vaccinations that have mercury as a preservative, since they go through so many vaccinations in a given period (large practice). He really made me feel a lot better about vaccinating DS on schedule. I think it's important to note that ALL of these kids that have been featured on Oprah showed signs of Autism, in one way or another.

MMR just the idea of there being a *possible* link to autism makes me 2nd guess it. I think that there would be a lot of reasons (money) to cover up any correlation so I do not believe what a lot of ppl say about there being no relation. For me, contracting measles, mumps, or rubella is far less daunting than autism so at this point we will not get the mmr. Her exposure is minimum as well since I stay at home.
eating does anyone else have DCs who eat, eat, eat? It seems like everytime I turn around DD is hungry. Especially when she wakes from her nap in the afternoon- she will snack constantly until dinner time & she is super fussy until she gets dinner. Is this going on w/ anyone else? What are some good high protein snacks you guys are giving? I feel like maybe it would stick w/ her longer than fruits & grains.

Can'tWait, I am right now feeding DS hummus and pieces of pita. He's the same way-- fussy before dinner-- even though he isn't a big eater in general. Our doctor said the chickpeas in hummus are a good source of protein. I'm interested to hear any others!

Vaxes - We are on schedule. If DS showed signs of autism or had trouble with vaccines I might have considered a delayed schedule. I've worked with a lot of kids on the autism spectrum and some of the worst were unvaccinated children. I also worked with a woman who 3 out of her 4 kids were on all different sides of the spectrum. I personally feel that the genetic component and environmental components are to blame, not vaccines. DS is in daycare so I would never risk not having him protected. Even if he wasn't I still would since you live in society and go to public places. There was just a possible case of Mumps in Boston on the news today. Also, I truly believe that while autism is on the rise, I think a lot of the people who are on the mild side of the spectrum just weren't diagnosed years ago.
can't wait - have you tried Soynut butter?? It has a lot of protein and you could spread it on bread and crackers. I personally think the stuff is nasty but DS likes it. I guess when you've never had peanut butter you don't know what you are missing. :) I think 1 serving has 7 grams of protein.
Babylove - yeah for teeth! I told you. :) AND J beat N, he was 10 days shy of 14 months. Watch out, though! N went from no teeth to cutting molars a week ago!
What's a co-op??

Tracee - Ya for Jake's teeth!!!! At least you had a long time of cute gummy smiles!
vacs - We are doing it right on schedule. I agree with what mmisabel said. I think that there is a predisposition for it...and vacs or not, if a child is going to become autistic, they are going to regardless of the shot.
Allison took two steps yesterday!!!! She has had a fever the last couple of days and I can see she is getting her molars. Fun times! I am enjoying the cuddles though!

I can hear Michael starting to wake up, so I'll have to be quick...
Hope everyone is doing well. I need to catch up on the thread. We are frantically trying to get ready for the new baby who is coming in less than 3 weeks!
Quick (hopefully) question:
Are any of your kiddos waking up frequently at night in hysterics? M is waking up every couple of hours screaming and crying - tears running down his face and it takes us anywhere from 5-30 minutes to get him calmed down and back to sleep. He has 3 of his 4 molars in now and not running a fever anymore, so I don't think it is teething related. It has been going on for a little over a week and we are all exhausted! I am going to call the ped in the morning, but thought I would check with you all to see if this is happening with other kids or just my poor little boy. I feel very helpless...but also freaking out because we are having another baby in a couple of weeks and I don't know how we are going to get any sleep between the two of them!
Soulmate
09-23-2007, 11:52 AM
UTChick First take him into the ped for an ear check. EIs often disrupt sleep. He may also be getting even more molars. DS went through a period like that and it turned out to be multiple molars. But even Motrin didn't help. But during that time I did some research on night terrors. They are entering the age where these begin. But with night terrors they scream bloody murder and when you try to comfort them they push away from you and it makes it worse (they think you are the whatever scary thing they are dreaming about). They look awake but are really still asleep. The remedies were to just ignore the crying (CIO I guess) because going to them makes it worse and once they wake up they have no idea they had a night terror. Also, going to them sets up this bad loop reinforcing the night terrors (don't understand how but that is what they said). Also making sure that his feet are cool. No socks/footies and no blanket over their feet. That was anecdotal but multiple people said it helped. The CIO option seems mean if what he is going through is not night terrors and personally it was really hard to tell if they were or not. Ours turned out not being night terrors. But I would take him to the ped...they should be able to make sure nothing physically is wrong.

Babylove-Yay for teeth...let the fun begin!
UTchick-Hmmm...I agree with Soulmate, it could be an EI. Hope you figure it out soon.
We're in San Antonio visiting the grandparents, but I had to drop by and say how much I hate teething. K's working on two molars, and they're driving her (and me) mad. She's had a fever for three days straight and cries at the drop of a hat. How long is this going to last? I want my happy baby back! On the bright side, at least grandma's around to help out!!

Thanks for your thoughts, Soulmate and smurf. Every time we go for WBVs the ped says his ears look perfect, but it has been a month since his last visit and he has been congested with itchy eyes this weekend. DH was out of town this weekend, so I called my mom in the middle of the night last night so that she could hear what I was talking about. That way if he needs to go in to see the ped while I am at work tomorrow she can accurately describe what is going on. This inconsolable hysterical crying is just so out of character for M, that I really think something is wrong...I just don't know what it is.

UTChick- is he still eating and nursing/drinking? It could also be a delayed reaction to some shots or something like Hoof,Foot and Mouth disease. If the crying keeps happening, I would definitely bring him to the doc's.
Soulmate- I know what you mean- everytime I read your advice about night terrors- it seems so strange that we shouldn't wake the baby up. I would love to know why. It just seems wrong, ya know? Totally against my instinct. I would love to know the reasoning on it.
Smurf- Molars are EVIL! It is so nice when you realize that it was *just teething* and they aren;t possessed! I just feel so bad for them.
babylove- I left you a rambling message over in Shoes! I used to work for a chiropractor when I was doing massage and saw some amazing results. It might really help!
Melody is walking fulltime! Yikes! It is so much work. We went to a wedding today and I had to chase her around nonstop. She just loved having a giant banquet hall to explore (and she did not miss an inch!) . She also kept running onto the dance floor and started boogeying-just like in the Pampers commercial. It was so cute!

maryanne~ Yeah, he is still eating, drinking, etc. He is his usual self during the day - happy, playing, and everything. That's why I knew it couldn't be teething because he isn't cranky and clingy all day anymore. Amazingly he has had a really good night so far. Woke up at 9:30pm crying and screaming, but I was able to console him within 5 minutes and it is after 3:00am and he hasn't woken up again. Of course I the one who can't sleep now - darn left hip. Gotta love that 36th week of pregnancy! :p

UTChick - UGH! I'm glad to hear that you had a good night with M last night. Too bad you couldn't sleep. I can't believe you having your little girl in 3 weeks! This pregnancy just FLEW by.
Molar Hell - I think we are there too. Fun times. B woke up with a random fever at 4:30 in the morning on Saturday (after waking up 3 times prior to that screaming). Then he was fine the rest of the weekend until yesterday afternoon. He woke up from his nap and was SUPER clingy and cranky. He just kept putting his fingers (and anything else) in his mouth. He was also having some digestive issues and didn't really want to eat anything. Poor boy! I CANNOT wait until these teeth come in.
Maryanne - Yay for walking full time! I think it has it's pluses and minuses :) Once B stopped trying to open every drawer in our kitchen (due to the novelty of it I guess), it's become less tiring. I love that I can take him outside now and let him "run around." It definitely helps him burn off his extra energy! Too cute about the dancing.

We did have this happen to us about 2 months ago... it turned out to be a SINUS infection. Itchy eyes and congestion in your little one could point to that too. It was a pain in the keester and took well over a month before she was well. She was pretty happy during the day, it was just nap times and nighttime that was terrible. She was cutting all 4 molars at the time as well, which just added to the good times.
Walking - DD walks really well, so I've started taking her out for walks around the block. :) It's a lot of fun, and is helping her learn the art of holding my hand... yeah right. Actually she does really well. We go out for walks every day, she really seems to crave the outdoors.

rande The co-op I started is just for locals b/c I don't want to have to mess w/ shipping anything. But it is a frontier wholesale co-op so it is all natural/organic/earth friendly stuff. There are a ton of frontier co-ops out there.
Here is a list of the co-ops I'm in... there are different requirements for joining for each (like being members of various sights like thebabywearer.com) & some don't have any requirements... they usually say on the front page.
-Diaper bag co-op: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/diaper_bag_co_op/?yguid=201910728
-baby & kid stuff co-op: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Gotkidsgotdeals/?yguid=201910728
-natural baby/child stuff (crunchy): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/granolachickscoops/?yguid=201910728
-random stuff... some natural/organic, some kids stuff, some adult stuff (she does frontier): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lareescoops/?yguid=201910728
-kids stuff, natural stuff, slings/carriers, etc: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TBWOTCoop/?yguid=201910728
-kids & some adult things: http://z7.invisionfree.com/BBB_Coop/index.php?act=idx
co-op Co-op is short for cooperative. Cooperative is in short a group of people who get together (not literally) to purchase things at a discount. They are able to get discounts because they are a larger group. There are food co-ops that you can find in your local town which buy food from local farmers & get a discount b/c they are buying in bulk for the whole group membership. The co-ops I've listed above are all online co-ops. You do not have to buy anything... only what you want. But they typically contact a manufacturer of an item & say "we have x members that are interested in buying your product... what kind of a discount can you offer us?" Some companies don't sell to co-ops (like babylegs) but others do. Some give super good discounts (like wholesale prices) & some just give a smaller discount like 20%. Hope that helps. :)
protein foods Yes, we have done hummus & she seemed to like it okay. We do yogurt too but mostly w/ breakfast or lunch... not so much a snack b/c I prefer finger foods for snacks b/c they are easy. I haven't tried soy nut butter & have been contemplating the other butters (like almond & such) but not sure yet on them. Thanks for all your suggestions!

Though, it might be her fourth - the upper ones are harder to see and she's not so keen with the finger feel. ;) I actually didn't know about one of her upper molars until one day she was leaning over my legs and laughing. :o She's got 10 teeth now and one poking through.

Ugh! I just got back with DS from the allergist. As some background DS had colic and acid reflux and I knew he was allergic to cow's milk, banana, egg white. Below is what he tested positive for :( :
Egg (Whole)
Banana
Malt
Rice
Milk
Wheat (mild)
Soybean
Green Bean (mild)
Peas (mild)
Peanut (mild)
Dust Mites
Cats
Notice that he is allergic to milk, rice, and soy. So what is he supposed to drink? The dr. put him on Zyrtec because there is no way he'd be able to avoid all of those but he said to try to minimize his exposure. He is also still such a little guy (only 22lbs) restricting his diet is not good either. Oh, well. I enjoyed the only month of his life he was not on medication.
For those babies who had/had colic or reflux please get checked with an allergist. The dr said that allergies trigger these conditions. And DS only showed a reaction to a couple of these things. I really regret not being referred earlier.
I also posted about this in the infant section but he also said that rice is a huge allergen. I know many of us are told that rice is so benign that it should be a babies first food. Apparently that is very wrong.
Man, this past weekend was a bear! We found out that DD has Roseola, which causes a fever for 3-4 days and then when the fever breaks they get a rash all over. There is really nothing you can do but wait it out. So of course DD was feeling lousy and was incredibly fussy and clingy. She wants to be held ALL the time. Which would have been great and sweet and snuggly, expect she wants you to STAND and hold her. If you try to sit down she throws a fit. So I sprnt most of the day Saturday and Sunday standing and walking around inside and outside the house trying to keep her happy.
Hopefully today when she is back at daycare and into her routine and away from Mommy & Daddy she will be in a better mood.
Otherwise, cruising seems to be going well. She still hates doing it, but she moves around more and more.

I am not looking forward to molars! We still only have 6 teeth here - where oh where are the 2 side ones on the bottom? I may go feeling in there for molars because her behavior last week was a little off for her. I stopped feeling for teeth a few weeks ago when I got bit so hard I thought it was going to break the skin.
If I am "walking" with E and let go, on occasion she'll stand for a long time or even take a few steps. But never on her own. She's perfectly content literally running with her push toy, or going really fast on her knees.

Soulmate ~ I'm so sorry about all the allergies! I don't have any advice for you, just support! So did the ped/allergist tell you what he is supposed to drink if he is allergic to all of that? What about goat's milk? What about formula...there has to be some kind of toddler variety for kids w/ allergies. My DS weighs just about the same as yours...is that small?? I didn't think so...
E&O ~ I hope your DD is feeling better today.

I have a QOTD for everyone---what are your recent moments with your baby that you were totally impressed/scared for the future and the fact that the are growing up either mentally or physically? -it is ok to brag! ;)
I have two. You guys know the FP Alligator Shape Sorter right? Well, we have the bath version that has a mesh net that catches the pieces as they get pushed through. We were playing with it and I would cheer whenever she got a piece through. Well, she was having problems figuring one out, so she stopped, and thought about it and turned it over and put the piece in the net.She then hands it to me with the happiest look on her face. I couldn't help but laugh. That move was so me--looking at solving a problem in the most bizarre way!
The other moment was watching her try to get to the cat who was sleeping high up on a chair. When she realized that she couldn't reach her, she walked into the bedroom which was two rooms away and dragged out a footstool and proceeded to climb up on it to get to the cat (poor kittie!).

QOTD ~ Just generally speaking, when I notice that he understands what I say and follows directions. He has started answered "cack cack" when I ask what a duck says :) And he can roar when I ask what a lion says (great b/c he's a lion for Halloween!) I have notice over the last week or so that his level of comprehension has increased. He also tries to mimick what I say more often. As far as being SCARED for what is to come, DS has demonstrated a very strong will--he knows what he wants when he wants it and LOOK OUT if he doesn't get it.

QOTD - if we're at home and N wants to nurse, she'll drag the boppy to wherever I'm at. If I leave the diaper bag unzipped, no matter where we're at she'll bring the Hooter Hider (despite the fact that we only use it out of necessity now - like the other night trying to feed her at a wedding when I was wearing a BM dress). It's amazing that she associates these items with nursing, despite us not using them at each feeding.

Thanks for the sympathy babylove and maryanne! I'm not going to stress out too much since he has to stay on soymilk and will be taking medication to reduce the effects. Banana, egg (baked goods are ok), and rice are easy enough to avoid anyway. It was still shocking though! Looking back I can see that he had a very quick and mild reaction to all of these things. I just brushed it off to other causes (like the hard to digest skins on green beans and peas).
babylove DS is also almost 2 months older ;) He weighed 19lbs at his 9 month WBV and has only gained 3 lbs in 6 mos. This is a really awesome link for OCD moms like me :D Children's Growth Chart Percentiles Calculator (http://pediatrics.about.com/cs/usefultools/l/bl_percentiles.htm).
QOTD I love it that when I say "diaper" (meaning diaper change) or "time to get your pj's on" he will run away from me with a sly look on his face. He HATES both of these things. The other thing is that when I look in on him at night he looks like such a big boy sleeping there. I remember when I thought the crib was obscenely huge for him and now he fits perfectly.

Soulmate- ugh - that sucks! I have thought about getting J tested since he was a pretty colicky baby. Gosh- I don't think 22 lbs is too small...J is only 19.5 lbs! He was 18.4 lbs at his 12 WBV, so he has only gained 1 lb. in 3 months. If I have to limit what he eats, the kid will never gain weight! By the way, we do Goat's Milk (the powdered kind) and J LOVES it. I also give him a little cow's milk here and there, but he much prefers the goat's milk.
Molars- J has had all 4 for about 2 months- we are currently working on the bottom incisors (the top 2 just came in) which are killing him- after those 2 come in (they will be teeth # 15 and 16), we are done until the 2-year molars! Whohoo!
Has anyone else's DC JUMPED out of their crib yet? Fun stuff....The crib mattress is as low as it can go, but I swear my kid is spider man. He has only done it once and I think he scared himself into not doing it again...for the time being. I watch him on the video monitor when I put him down now, and he looks like he is going to attempt to sometimes (hooks his arms over the top bars and starts walking his feet up the rails, but then chickens out)...little stinker. My DD never did this (though we moved her to a toddler bed at 18 months so J could have the crib).

Soulmate - I'm so sorry for all the allergies! DD has had some sensitivities that cause watery diapers and (maybe) congestion, but nothing super serious. We've talked to the ped. about testing, but she won't do it at this age because she claims there's too many false positives. I keep going back and forth about pushing testing, but I haven't decided yet.
QOTD - I think the newest one is that she'll bring me her shoes, and after I put them on she grabs my hand, leads me to the door and says "Ott" (out). It blows my mind.
Words - DD has picked up a few, but they all sound the same. :D I can usually only tell what she's saying because it's in context. She says "ess" for both Shoes and Glasses, so if I see shoes in the room and not glasses I know what she's talking about.
Molars - I mentioned that DD cut all 4 molars about a month ago, although the top 2 are still working their way in slowly. This week she started cutting #13 and #14 - the canines on the bottom. I can't feel the top 2 canines at all, so it might be a while on those. I'll be so happy to get teething over with (for now)... I am currently changing her shirt twice a day because it gets so soaked with drool. Nothing like drool mixed with milk and cracker... YUCK. :p
We are on a food strike here... it's terrible. She is refusing almost everything, and not acting hungry. It's been several days now, I wasn't worried at first but the longer it goes the more I worry. She is eating small amounts, but maybe 1/4 of what is normal for her. I've heard that kids around this age start eating less, but this is a LOT less! We have her 15 mo. appt. next Tuesday, so if it's still an issue I'll bring it up then. She seems totally happy, just not hungry.
UGH...how do I get so far behind???? Darn work.
QOTD--For me, it's definitely DD's language skills. Today, I asked her what she was watching (we put PBS on while I'm putting on make up), and she said, "Watching Barney". It wasn't that clear, but that OBVIOUSLY was what she was saying! She also told me she wanted "BIG" instead of her high chair after eating a snack sitting in one of our barstools. Yeah, she's a big girl already.
Teeth--Working on #8.
UTChick--We had a rough couple nights like that, and it turned out to be strep. Even though she didnt' have a fever for more than one day. I never would have guessed--because she wasn't fussy during the day.
Soulmate--Sorry to hear about all the allergies! And even though she's a girl, I just wanted to give you a little reassurance about weight. My little heifer weighed 19.5lbs (give or take) at 7 months and at 13.5 months only weighed 22lbs! Yeah, she's not the best eater, and she keeps dropping %tiles, but the ped is not concerned. She just gets taller. I can understand your concern, though, with L's dietary restrictions. Let's hope you find some things that work for you!

soulmate- Ugh. That's a long list! We just did the abbreviated food and environmental scratch panels... there are probably more allergens. He tested positive to egg (whites), tree nuts, and milk with a very mild reaction to wheat. And just that amount is hard!
You are going to keep him on soy? That seems odd to me. Even with a higher chance of developing a nut sensitivity due to so many other allergies, I would feel more comfortable going with almond milk instead of continuing on with soy. DS also enjoys a bit of coconut milk in his cereal on occassion.
Are you on Mothering's boards at all? The ladies they are great for allergy help. I'd link you but they are having technical difficulties right now.
The biggest recommendation I would give to you and to all mamas with allergic kiddoes is to get them on a probiotic made especially for babies. There are dairy-free varieties; they are harder to find but in your case would be essential. If you want to be even more aggressive, get some for you, too. Many moms claim that sealing up mom's gut is beneficial for her milk.
Most food allergies are the result of an intestine that is not able to break down the proteins in question. They leak through the intestine wall and the body treats them as invaders. The probiotics (good bacteria, as in yogurt) helps to "seal" up the gut and keep the proteins from becoming these invaders.
You might also look into some natural allergy treatments as given by acupuncturists (not always with needles.) I know several moms have had a lot of luck with those.
Food allergies can be a really PITA.
Oh, and FWIW: small weight numbers are not nearly as big a deal as having length numbers that don't follow a curve on the growth chart. DH is a doctor, and just went to a really good lecture by a pediatric GI. His studies have shown that less heavy kids end up being less heavy adults and have better metabolisms throughout life. As long as they are growing taller consistently, low weight percentiles should not be considered red flags and you should definitely, definitely NOT force more food into babe. This will cause them to begin to ignore the feeling that they are full and have had enough, which is key to their healthy metabolisms.
There is also a good growth chart (available through kellymom.com, among other places) for babies who were exclusively breastfed through the first 6 months ... or longer (?). The growth charts that most docs use come through the CDC and have infants that have started formula or solid foods from a very early age. Those babies skew the numbers for the EBF kiddoes.
Oliver isn't on the CDC charts for weight, and hasn't been since 3 months old. But he is 5th percentile on the WHO charts (those at kellymom.) He weighs a whopping 16 pounds 5 ounces at 13 months. We're not at all worried. :) Anymore.
Good luck with the allergies.

Thanks guys for the reassurance about weight. I wrote this in another post, but I grew up with a scary high metabolism (I once lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks with normal activity and diet at only 5'6" and 100lbs. It took a year to gain back.) and it caused me lots of problems. Emotionally because my mom (who did NOT have a high metabolism) did not know how to handle it and physically because I eat like complete crap and can't seem to get a handle on healthy eating although cognitively I know how. So I have a feeling DS is following that pattern and I do not want to handle it like my mom did. Plus he is half asian and will be on the smaller side anyway.
mkvh Isn't it amazing when they say such profound sentences for their age! It really is scary to think that they will be saying it for real one day.
Lizard I imagine she will probably go through a growth spurt soon. DS does the same thing and it lasts about a week and then I can't keep up with his appetite. Both are anxiety-inducing because they seem like they will last forever. But DS' reaction to cow's milk is a simple runny nose and congestion and he is decently allergic. He has no reaction at all to soy or rice. Besides banana and egg whites none of his allergies are very noticeable. A reaction can be internal and sometimes refusing a food is a sign because they don't like the way the food makes them feel but they can't tell you that. I'd rather treat a false positive (maybe not with medication though) than not treat a true positive.
mia's mama Holy cow! I bet you were floored when you saw that! DS is no where near being that adventurous yet. Besides stairs, he is not a huge climber yet.
Aletheia Thank you so much for your post! I totally forgot that my acupuncturist already offered me some things for his digestive issues. I can probably email him and see what he has. Do you know where to get probiotic. He eats yogurt everyday but I know that there are more supplemental forms but I've never seen them for babies. I also didn't fully realize the other milks out there. My town is not the most progressive but they do sell goat's milk in the grocery store so I know there must be something somewhere. Wouldn't the almond/coconut milk be allergenic also because they are nuts? Interestingly they did not test him for tree nuts. But he is on the soy despite his allergy because all drs mention around here are soy, cow's, and rice milk. My ped mentally rolled her eyes when I brought up goat's milk. Yea, not a progressive town  But your post reminded me that I should get probiotics for myself. I have a big feeling that he gets some of this from me but since I've never really reacted to foods I do not know about the allergies (my parents were oblivious). But I've had multiple m/c's for immunological reasons and already know my immune system is overactive. My gut (no pun intended) tells me that it is partially food allergies.

I think we are there too. Jacob hasn't been himself all weekend, having digestive issues and eating issues plus the fingers in the mouth 24/7 too. I agree I can't wait for the teeth to come in.
Walking - DS has only been walking full time for 3 weeks and he is almost running and so steady I get comments on how well he walks all the time. We have been going to the park almost everyday to walk and play. I agree with Lizard he too seems to CRAVE the outdoors.
Soulmate - Sorry to hear about all the allergies! I too like mkvh just wanted to give you a little reassurance about DC's weight. Jacob weighed 18lbs 9oz at 12 months and I don't think he has gained more than a 1lb during this last 3 months just like the last two WBV visits. He has been below the 5th percentile for most of his young life now. So I too can understand your concern with L's dietary restrictions. Did they have any suggestions as to what to feed L since he is allergic to so many of the basic foods he needs to eat?
Wrighty26
09-24-2007, 07:31 PM
Soulmate - Wow that's quite a list :( I imagine you guys are SO frustrated. I'm glad you got him tested NOW though, opposed to changing any kind of reaction as he gets older. How scary that rice is actually a big time allergen! I agree with the others about not stressing about L's weight.
Mia's Mama - Holy Crap! Climbing out of the crib is the #1 thing I worry about. I do have a little monkey on my hands and my mom likes to tramatize me by telling me all about how my younger (middle) brother climbed out of the crib when he was 12 months old. I remember when you switched Mia to the toddler bed. Wow - that feels like it was just yesterday!
Lizard - Sorry that your DD is boycotting food! Isn't it funny how they can go from one end of the spectrum to the other seemingly overnight?
Sunchaser - I thought regular teething was bad - but the molars are horrible. I've heard that the canine's are the worst though - so I'm definitely not looking forward to that. Sorry to hear that J has been having a tough time too!
QOTD - My heart-stopping moment of week happened on Saturday. I was using the bathroom and I put DS in the hallway with the bathroom door open. Usually he likes to pop in and play peekaboo or unroll the toilet paper (what's more fun when mommy's using the potty, right?). Well, he didn't come in (which I thought was REALLY odd). Instead I looked and he had opened the door to the garage and WALKED OUTSIDE to driveway (the garage door was open). He did this in what was seriously 2 minutes. Thank GOD he didn't go any further. It's not that I live on a busy street, but there are some crazy drivers (they will go 40 mph - and I live on a dead-end street).
Other developmental stuff....Along with opening doors (which he's been doing for a few weeks now, thankfully the novelty has worn off for the most part), he likes to climb on top of anything taller than him, turn the lights on and off (he can reach the light switches on his toes), climb off the bed (I have NO idea where he learned that), spin in circles, and walk backwards. He has officially started running, but he is testing out his speed. I am in TROUBLE. He's definitely working on his motor skills right now - but he has picked up some new words including doggie, woof, kitty, more and baby. His two favorite words are "hi" and "ball."
OK - enough bragging from me :D

Soulmate - Yikes on all the allergies. Did he mention that L could have the mild allergic foods if you introduced slowly? I seem to remember on one of my students with multiple allergies that with a Peanut allergy you will test positive for Soy and it could be a false positive. Don't quote me on it but it was something along those lines...:)
Mia's mama - holy crap climbing out of the crib!! Definitely a Houdini on your hands!
Maryanne - Too cute about the dancing.
Wrighty - Wow! I can't believe he made it outside. SO scary!
Molars - I agree teething sucks.
QOTD - I guess when N takes my keys and knows to put them in the middle of the door handle pretty much amazes me. Oh, and he has this Shape Sorter toy and he can get the right shapes in the wholes (trial and error) which I think is pretty darn good!!

married: 9/13/03
DD: 8/26/06
Teeth: four and two about to cut.
Words: Lots of words, mostly in Spanish but she says daddy, mama, Barney, banana, milk, water, baby, bread, Oreo (our cat), Nikki (my mom's dog).
Feliza just started walking last week. She started about a month ago with a step here and there and falling a lot. But now she is walking around everywhere with less falls.

Soulmate - :( about the list of allergens! Did they say whether they expect him to outgrow any of them (like the milder ones)?
mia's mama - I am waiting for S to climb out of his crib but he hasn't quite gotten there yet. He likes to try to climb on everything, though. Tonight I was doing some homework on the computer and DH had S in the family room. DH went into the kitchen to get something and was gone for literally one minute, and when he walked back into the family room S was standing on top of the coffee table, laughing! I've caught him sitting in random chairs and on top of the ottoman at times as well - if there's anything he can use as a step nearby, he will use it. I'm waiting for the day he figures out he can push things around to use as steps.
Wrighty - whoops! That must have freaked you out! S is running now too (and falling a lot more).
Other - lately he is saying "uff uff" for dogs, hat, hot and up. It seems like he gets on a kick with a new word and that's all he wants to say - like for 3 weeks I swear all he said was "banana" and now he hardly ever says it because he just wants to say "up up up". He is also into giving kisses now, which is so cute. And he loves music and dancing. When I bring him downstairs in the morning he grabs the remote and points it at the tv and starts doing The Twist until I turn on the music channel (he doesn't watch tv but I turn on the music channels with still pictures). He is also doing a lot of imitating, like if he sees a picture in a book of a kid doing something (hands on head, waving arms, etc.) he tries to do it.
Other than that he is getting a new room! We decided to move him into a not-quite-big-boy-room so the new baby can just go into the nursery (it is gender-neutral and all set up for a baby already but not childproofed). I am going to try to find a new crib for him this weekend so he can get all moved in well before the baby arrives, but I'm going to try to make it more of a playroom/bedroom than his current room.

Soulmate I'm so sorry to hear about DS's long list of allergies. I'm quite the allergic person so I understand. :(
Lizard J has been on a food strike as well. She will eat one good meal a day ("usually" breakfast) and then the rest of the day she will eat next to nothing. Last night I gave her some beets on her tray to start out with and she ate two pieces and threw the rest on the floor. I tried cheese - same thing. Bread - same thing. Blueberries - same thing. She doesn't look like she's losing weight so I'm trying not to worry, but I'll be mentioning it at her 15 month appt on Thursday.
Molars we had J at the ped's last week and we found out that she had already gotten the molars on the left side and the right side was about to break through!! She hadn't acted differently or anything. I was so shocked because I've heard they can be pretty bad and she wasn't phased at all.
QOTD DD loves to look at pictures - we actually keep a bunch in an old wipe box so that she can play with that instead of pulling the wipes out of the full wipe box. lol. Anyway, she picked up a picture one morning and it was upside down. She looked at it for a second with a confused look on her face and then flipped it the right way. I was so shocked because I had never seen her do that before. She also loves to find her shoes and socks after I take them off at night and try to put them back on her feet. It's the funniest thing because she will grunt and try SO HARD and when she can't do it she throws the shoe or sock and yells. Just like her mama. lol.

Quick post
Soulmate I think we are going through the exact same thing. I've been battling all sorts of allergic reactions with DD since she was born. I know that she definitely has a reaction to milk and soy. I've always suspected green beans and peas. At her 1yr WBV, she tested for milk and soy but it came back negative. It kinda surprised me but I don't believe it. She breaks out in a bad rash and has explosive poops. I'm taking her to an allergist next week cos I need to get a hand on the madness. We are still on Alimentum - we tried soymilk (no go), goat milk (no dice) and are now on rice milk. Just so you know, if your child has a reaction to milk, he will probably have a reaction to goat milk. I use a limited amount of rice milk because it doesn't have enough fat for her. We will keep her on Alimentum till at least 18mths and then go from tehre.
Just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone.
So far behind I don't know how it happended but here's the big news:
OK here the big news!!! went and got my first somogram today for #2 and it may be ..... #2 & 3!! :0
Yes there are two sacks at the moment so there is a possiblity of twins! but it's too early to tell I guess I'm not as far along as we thought. We were thinking 7 1/2 weeks but it looks like 5 w2 D so I have to go bac in two weeks to get another to see the heart beat or beats to confirm!
We are both in shock but understand it may be the vanishing twin thing to it happens alot they say. so i have to wait a few more weeks to tell anyone but our parents! but I don't think I'm telling them possibly twins just that I'm PG

Amaye Hope the allergist has some answers for you!
Soulmate Sorry to hear about DS's allergies. I hope these answers (and the Zytrec) will help him feel better! I have really horrible environmental allergies, so I know how miserable it can be. DD is little too. She weighs 19 lbs right now at 13 months. She has only been gaining 1 lb every 3 months since her 6 month WBV, so I don't think she will be over 20 lbs for at least a few more months. She is growing well in height though, so I don't worry about it. Especially since she normally eats like a horse, and she is still nursing well.
jarocha Yay for walking full time!
Wrighty26 OMG how scarey! I'm glad he didn't get too far!
Alethia How interesting that growing in height is more important than weight on the growth charts. Thanks for that information.

teeth - we've got ten over here, with two more molars cutting now. Gah, DD has been a whiney mess!
cell phones - DD apparently called DH yesterday afternoon. He said it was the cutest thing, he was talking to her and she was babbling back. I had no idea she called him. I was trying to work (I work for MIL and can take her to work which is HARD, thank God it's only one or two days per week and I come and go as I please) and her toys were not doing it for her, so I gave her my phone. LOL, no wonder it worked for a few minutes. :o

Wrighty ~ How scary!! It's times like those that I'm glad my DS is still too short to reach the door handles! I'm glad he was ok.
jarocha ~ Yay for walking!
emmjay ~ DS has started saying banana too :) I hope the transition to the not-so-big-boy room goes smoothly!
Mystikal ~ I'm glad Julia didn't have a problem getting her molars. I hope we're as lucky!
Klav ~ WOW! Congrats!! Gosh, I must have missed your earlier announcement that you're expecting! Keep us posted!
jennylou ~ LOL! DS called DH at work once from our home phone!
***
teeth ~ I can finally say ONE! :) The bottom left is through the gums and the bottom right is just about to come through. He has been really clingy and whiney and constantly has his fingers in his mouth.
Words ~ He now says "nigh nigh" (night, night), quack (when you ask what a duck says), nana (for banana), car, hi, out (as in get me out of the highchair or I want to go outside). Generally speaking he doesn't say them without me asking him what's that? or say this. He repeats sounds and words too.
Walking ~ He's still holding on to my finger for dear life. He walks great if he is holding my hand or pushing something, but if I make him let go, he drops right to his knees or butt. Oy!

klav - Wow!! That's exciting. I was just thinking today we never had any twins in our July/August group and that seemed strange to me. God works in mysterious ways.........;)
Holy CRAP, klav!! That's exciting. Thinking good, growing thoughts. Didn't you think Liam might be twins--just your mom's intuition?
Dennis was hoping Liam was twins but that did not happen because he was a clomid baby. These are not drugs at all !! which again is a shocker!
So I have to go back in about 2 weeks to make sure because it was too early to see heartbeats so the next time we should be sure if it is or not.

Hi ladies - sorry I'm so late coming over to this thread. There has been a ton happening lately:
CC Name: chimichanga
Me: 28
DH: 32
Married: 8/03
Birthdate: DD 8/4/06
Other children: two pups
Work has been a nightmare lately. I took a much needed girls vacation at the end of August and have been swamped since.
Reagan updates: We've got at least 10 teeth now and some molars coming in (I sort of count those in the 10). She's not really saying much, but she's vocal. She L.O.V.E.S. music. She loves to dance all over the house when she hears music. She's doing Gymboree once a week and digging that. All in all she's a pretty happy kid.

Update:
Today we had a 9:30 am 15 M WBV and Tom stayed home to go with me, Jacob walked into the exam room he was so cute!!! He only gained 1 lb and 1 oz so he is offically 19lbs 10oz. Still my little peanut - in the 2nd percentile for weight, but on the other hand 30.5 inches tall and the 35th percentile for height!
Carseat:
Also finally made the move over the the Britax Marathon we have had for several months. Installed it forward facing - finally got Ped's blessing on the forward facing. Jacob went for a ride in it around the neighborhood and was LOVING IT - pointing to everything!!!
New stuff:
He has also been talking up a storm lately besides walking or should I say running around, finally stood up on his own without something to pull himself up on Tuesday (my B-day!). So anyways he has been saying "Hi", "apple", "nana" (for banana), na, na (for no, no!), "happy", "baby", "go", "hello" with the phone in hand, and has been saying "more", mama, daddy, kitty, and bye for quiet a while.

We took Reagan to a harvest fest today. She loved the petting zoo and was laughing hysterically at the goats. She didn't really pet them (which I was sort of happy about) but we scrubbed her down anyways.
Poor thing is really constipated. She gets this way every 10 days or so. She has movements in between, but they are smaller. Her stool is really hard. We're giving her prune juice. Any other suggestions? We're trying to vary her diet. But, she's at home with daddy and daddy doesn't eat a wide variety of foods, so it can be difficult.

Soulmate, sorry about all the allergies. Have you tried goat milk? L really likes it--I don't think she's actually allergic to cow milk, maybe more like lactose intolerant (she can have cheese, etc, with no problems), but we switched to goat milk because cow milk gave her upset stomach. She really likes it. It's pretty expensive, though (especially after we'd been getting her milk for free from me for so long).
Walking: It's been all the time for weeks now. I miss her butt-scooting days. It was cute. Her latest thing is walking backwards.
Teeth: Still just 7.
New words: Doggie, meow-meow (cat), shoes, Bob (one of our feral cats), baby. DH swears she said "oh my god" today. She also says teta (bottle/teat in Spanish, courtesy my non-Hispanic mother, who is "daycare" while I'm at work & who never got on board with calling it a "baba," even after 3 grandkids). The coolest thing is that one day while I was changing clothes in front of her she pointed at my nipple at called it a teta! She remembered me pumping and understood it was her milk! I was very proud & gratified. I still miss EPing.
Heart-stopping moment: Probably the day I got home from work and noticed a bump she had on her forehead--my mom had iced it but I could still tell. She'd been tripping a lot last week because she was sick. Well, later that same day I took her outside to check the mail and walk around, and she was having lots of fun. Then all of a sudden, wham, right onto her forehead on the very same spot she's bruised earlier that day. It sounded horrible on the walkway, and she also got a mild scrape. I felt like utter crap. We got to try out her new Hello Kitty ice pack, though.
She likes to kick her ball and play her little piano. She also plays the real piano.
*deleted pic*
You can see her cute little teeth. She was excited and proud about kicking the ball. :)

I don't know where I left off on SO's so I will do my best.
Sophia We tried goat's milk back when we were testing out cow's milk. He still had a reaction (runny nose/chest congestion) although not as bad as the cow's milk. He has absolutely no reaction to soy milk which is why I was so surprised he was allergic to soy. DS has wacked his head on concrete twice and it really really sucks when it happens. BTW, I've heard you can freeze fast food ketchup/mustard packets to use as baby ice packs.
klav Wow! Twins! What a surprise huh? Double congratulations to you and your family!! My grandmother had a son and then twin girls (one my mom). No real point to that...just rambling ;)
wrighty How scary about DS walking out of the garage! I guess we are coming up on the time when things are quiet you know they are getting into trouble!

seem to remember on one of my students with multiple allergies that with a Peanut allergy you will test positive for Soy and it could be a false positive.I wonder about this because he does well with soy. He tested + for peanut but it was less severe than the soy. He also had a bit of peanut butter once with no reaction (doesn't mean a whole lot since multiple exposures are needed sometimes). But he tested + for all the legumes tested which makes me wonder.
emmjay I imagine he will outgrow most of them. They seem very mild now and if we keep the exposure down and I am more aware of his flare ups then he should out grow them by age 4 or so.
amaye I'm so sorry you are going through this too. I probably should have him on Alimentum too but it is so flippin' expensive especially since he only tolerates RTF versions. No wonder DS responded to my BM like acid was running through him!

Update Zyrtec is a no-go. Ugh. This child refuses to be normal (which I secretly love BTW ;) )! But the Zyrtec was making him wake up multiple times in the night crying which progressed to inconsolable crying. I don't know if it was giving him bad dreams or hurting his stomach but it was not pleasant. Also yesterday, had he gotten his way, he would have refused ALL naps. Hopefully that is the Zyrtec too and will return to normal soon since I stopped giving it to him. Doing research though, I don't know if there is another medicine approved for <2 years.
Words DS is very obviously trying to talk like a big person. He will babble trying very hard to say a real word. In the car this weekend he was babbling and very clearly (DH heard it too) said "I'm a duck". Total fluke but it was soooo funny. His word of the month right now is "uck" which 90% of the time means "truck" (also means duck). Other words: hot, up, nap (ap), bunny (ba ba), ball (ba), cat (at or ticky ticky), dog (ca cau - sounds like the spanish version of woof woof - no idea where he got that), balloon (broom broom - like a car sound), hi, bye-bye, baby (bebe). But the only words that other people would understand are "hot" "truck" "up" "hi" and "baby". Seriously, some days he babbles NON-STOP. There is no way he is my child (at least speaking...I can type like no one's business ;) ).
Speaking of bowel movements, DS' BMs are still babyish...like mushy. He went through a period where they were adult-like (more formed) but that was short lived. I didn't know if other baby's had the same thing or if his should be more formed by now. I just wanted to ask this very TMI question because maybe he is reacting to the soy.

Soulmate ~ So glad you posted about your DS's poop ;) because I was just thinking to make a note to ask our ped about this at our next visit. My DS's poop is exactly what you described...it was definitely more solid at some point months ago, but now it's back to being mushy 95% of the time. I attributed it to LOTS of fruit....but maybe it's just normal? Sorry about the Zyrtec :( I hope there is something else he can take!

Poop - We've been having poo issues here, so at our last ped appointment I finally asked what it's SUPPOSED to look like. :) She said that anything yogurt consistency and solider is normal. So I guess there's a wide spectrum at this age.
Lizard!! LOL yeah it can be tricky I was told that anything thicker than peanut butter to worry but Liam has had both from the yogurt to the soft bunny treats!LOL I hope your little one is fine!

Jumping in on the poop conversation... DD finally had a "decent" movement on sunday. Poor girl was so bound up. We plied her with apple-prune juice, pears and apricots. She was so much more pleasant after she got it out (obviously!!)
DD has this fascination with carrying things around the house; toys, clothes, you name it - she carries it! She got into some apples we bought this weekend:

Quick post - DD had her 15 month appt on Thursday. She is 31 inches long and 23.11 pounds. 75% for height and 70% for weight. She's doing great! =)
I had my first trip away from my family this weekend - I flew out to Iowa to surprise my best friend at her bachelorette party. It was a blast, but I never want to be that far from my baby again!

Just a quick drive-by too. We had our 15 month WBV today, and DD shot WAY up in height. She's 22lbs 8oz (45%) and 32 1/4" tall (95%). I would have had them re-measure her, but I helped the nurse do it and it looked very accurate. I've just noticed in the past week that she's grown out of most of her 12 mo stuff, some 18 mo items, and is even wearing a few 24 mo. items, so it makes sense. I need to find some pants that fit in the waist though - she's so skinny. We also went ahead and got her a flu shot today, so I don't have to come back in a month. It's a little early, but since I stay at home I'm most worried about the holidays, and she'll be covered then.
Anyone have a good softer-sole shoe recommendation that won't break the bank? I've been reading the shoe thread, and there's so many but they're fairly $$. She's in a size 6 now - both mom and dad have huge feet, she's doomed....
Not much else going on here - if something comes up I'll update, LOL. :D Hope you're all having a great week!
Oh, and Klav - congratulations!!!! I didn't know you were expecting!!

Where is everyone??
DS had a flu shot this afternoon. He screamed (briefly) but while he screamed, I got a good look in his mouth and saw that tooth #2 broke through :)

lizard-Wow, that's a tall girl you've got there! As for shoes, we love pedipeds. They're a little $$ ($30), but so worth it IMO. They're the only shoe other than SR that I've found to fit K's fat little feet!
Nothing exciting happening here. Still dealing with molars coming in. It's not affecting her sleep too horribly, but it sure is making her a cranky mess during the day. At least I'm hoping it's the teeth that are causing her tantrums, I'd hate to think she's entering the terrible twos already!

smurf I hope K's molars come in soon so that she starts feeling better!
babylove Yay for a second tooth! :)
Lizard Wow, you do have a tall girl!
Mystikal Glad DD is doing well! That would be so hard to be so far away!
Chimichanga Cute pics! Glad DD is feeling better! E suffers from chronic constipation, so I know how awful it is.
Soulmate Sorry about the Zyrtec. :(
Sophia Yeouch! I hope the bumps on her head are better!
We have big news here. E took her first steps yesterday! She takes 2 steps and then falls down and laughs. :)

Forgot to post. We also had our 15 month WBV (where does the time go?) No shots this time and he is 21#14oz (between the 10th and 25th percentile) and 31.5 inches (>50th). Growing like a weed........ :)

smurf Glad to hear you like the pedipeds... we just ordered some from a co-op (for $20!) & I can't wait to get them. What size is your DD wearing?
smurf
10-05-2007, 11:32 AM
Can't Wait-Oh, yeah, we love them. K insists on wearing them all the time. She's wearing a medium, but she'd probably fit into a small. I wanted to get them so they'd fit her through the fall. FWIW, she wears a 4.5 or a 5 in Stride Rites.

mmisabel Thanks! We weren't really planning it, but we obviously weren't very careful either! We will be thrilled if it does happen though. We'll see! I forgot how hard the waiting is...
I have been watching a friend's DD yesterday and today. She is 8 months old. I thought it would be tough, but they are great entertainment for each other! It is so fun to watch them play. :)

Drive-by Question...what time do your DC go to bed at night?
Wow, I haven't been here in forever and I come in with a question . I'm hoping work lets up soon, so I can get back on here more frequently.

bedtime ~ DS goes to sleep between 7 and 7:30. Every now and then, if we're out or it's a special occasion, he has been up as late as 8:30 but that's rare.

sabriel ~ That is a very pretty chart ;) How exciting that your DD is walking!

Drive-by Question...what time do your DC go to bed at night?
We start getting E ready for bed at 8, and she is usually asleep by 8:30.

Bedtime - usually around 7:30, but can be anywhere from 7 - 8. He gets up around 7 (although today it was 6:00 for some reason!).

Sleep Schedule - E goes to bed at around 7:30. Sometimes a little earlier if we start her bath too early. She's ready to sleep within 10 minutes after getting out of the tub (ie she turns into a cranky girl).
She gets up at 7am.
At daycare she sleeps from about 12:30-2:00 (on a good day) and when we get home from 5:45-6:30 (and she gets up, eats, takes a bath and goes back down with no problem) because she is so tired, though she is starting to not want to sleep, which is good because I get to see her more, but bad because I am pg and I am so tired.
On the weekends she still takes 2 naps - late morning and mid-afternoon.

Bedtime-K goes to bed around 8:30, although she's been known to stay up until 9 if she has a late nap. She gets up for the day between 7:30 and 8.

Do you ever worry that your DC doesn't chew his/her food? He shovels the food in so quickly and it doesn't really look like he's chewing! I do see whole pieces of his food in his poop (sorry!)...so does that mean his body isn't absorbing the nutrients in the food he eats if he's not chewing it properly?

Drive-by Question...what time do your DC go to bed at night?
Usually betwen 8-8:30. Sometimes as late as 9:30. If she falls asleep before 7:30, we wonder what's wrong with her. She gets up for the day at around 7AM and takes one long (60 minute) nap or two short (30 minute) naps.

Dropping by really quick! I need to go back and catch up on a few pages.
QOTD~ Almost always asleep by 8:00pm and gets up anywhere from 6:00-6:45am. Of course, we still have a wake-up or two in between. This kid is the lightest sleeper EVER!!
M's 4th molar finally came in earlier this week, but today he started his usual teething mood again. Is it already time for another group of teeth?!?! If so, I sure hope these are easier than the molars. They just about put us all over the edge!
Michael will be a big brother on Thursday. Baby sister is breech just like her brother and facing outward, so we are doing a c-section Thursday at noon. Michael is walking around the house saying "baby" a lot, which is funny because we haven't really talked to him much about the baby. In fact, we purposefully did not try to teach him that the baby was in my belly because he was starting to talk and I didn't want to confuse him. Last Sat. morning when I was getting into the shower, he looked right at my belly and said "baby." I asked him "where is a baby?" and he walked up to me and pointed right to my belly and said "baby." It blew me away!! They are so much more perceptive than we give them credit for!!

DD generally goes to bed by 8. We start the bed time process around 7:15-7:30 depending on how tired she looks. After her bottle she's out around 8 and gets up around 7.
Chewing food well enough - yeah, I worry about that. R shoves food in like crazy; handfuls at a time! It's definitely worrisome. But, if I tried to clear some food out of her mouth, she'd probably freak and choke on it.
My SIL just found out she's having a girl. We're very happy for them; it took them several years to get PG. I have a confession though: I'm sort of happy they aren't having a boy. DH really wants a son and was hoping we'd have the first grandson. So, we still have a shot.
R is doing great - she was fully engaged at Gymbo this week; she was playing with all of the kids. Other than that; she's just a smiley happy girl. :D
