Bolding mine. While I usually watch religiously, iTunes has been my go-to when I miss an episode since we don't have DVR. Looks like we may have to look into that!

NBC Universal Ditches iTunes

Not happy with what it calls Apple's penchant for underselling its digital content, the media conglomerate said Friday it will not renew its contract to sell television shows on iTunes. The news would be a big blow to the online store, considering NBC Universal-produced series as well as related sports, news and entertainment offerings account for roughly 40 percent of its downloads. However, Apple didn't waste any time cutting the cord.

In retaliation, the computer maker announced it would discontinue selling NBC programming before the 2007-08 season debuts next month. That's bad timing for the fourth-place broadcaster, which was hoping to climb out of the ratings basement and banking on a major Internet presence to help it promote its upcoming fall slate. "We are disappointed to see NBC leave iTunes, because we would not agree to their dramatic price increase," Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of iTunes, said in a statement.

The split means fans of such venerable TV shows as NBC's Heroes, The Office, 30 Rock and Sci Fi's Battlestar Galactica are going to have to look elsewhere if they plan on viewing them on the Web.

FYI for all you Office fans - there is a TON of Office-themed office supplies in the Dollar Spot at Target right now. They have coffee mugs, post-its, pens, Dwight stress balls, and a whole lot of other stuff. There are pictures and descriptions over at Office Tally (http://www.officetally.com/?p=1292)

I should be ashamed to have a complete set of I <3 Jim stuff, but, I'm not :) I fully intend on filling my I <3 Jim coffee mug with ice cream for maximum season premier enjoyment on Thursday night.

I didn't realize they'd replayed the season finale last week, but from the sounds of it, the "Summer Vacation" thing is the same as what's at the youtube link Misnicolea posted in the OP.

I can't wait for Thursday either! And I already know it's going to be hard to back to 30 min. episodes after the first four hour-long ones.

So Hilarious!

LOVED:

Ryan trying to call the office, but getting that endless explanation of where everyone was!

Dwight asking Michael "Did you do it on purpose?" (about Meredith)

Stanley (just about everything Stanley does or says cracks me up!)

Toby - or whomever that was - drinking water during the race and then throwing the rest back onto Jan! Ha!

Michael asking everyone to talk about their religions! Then, the computer tech guy says that he's a Sikh but that it doesn't define him, etc. After the guy's 'introduction' of himself Michael goes "Ok, one Sikh." Hee! :D

Creed's discussion of his 'cult' history. "Following's more fun but you make more money as a leader." Hee!!

HATED

The whole Angela's cat story line. Seriously - is a cat being frozen to death funny?

What is up with Andy and the bleeding nipples? I didn't get that so much.

squeee! :D I can't believe they just dove right in. Which means they'll break up this season, eh?

Andy was pretending to be a racer saying that his sensitive nipples chafed when he ran, and then were more sensitive and chafed some more. He walked around with bandages on them prior to the race.

the plot kind of dragged, but there were a lot of funny moments.

Hi, I live in the dark ages and don't have a VCR or DVR. I missed the Office tonight because friends wanted to watch Grey's. Does anyone know if there is any there is an online version of tonight's episode? Stupid NBC is cutting ties with iTunes which makes me so ANGRY!

Overall, I'm really glad the show is back on and I definitely had some good giggles-- especially during the whole bit about racing for a disease that's already been cured, etc. And it's nice that Pam and Jim are together, but I have to say I was super disappointed about a couple of things.

#1- I didn't like how Jim and Pam are just suddenly a couple. In the British series, the moment where Dawn realizes that she should be with Tim made me CRY-- a lot. It was just so wonderful and the culmination of all this time of them dancing around being together. The Jim and Pam thing was anticlimactic for some reason. Of course I like them together, but I guess I was hoping to see their moment of realization before things got comfortable. You know? It's like skipping past the proposal and just seeing year 3 of marriage. Not as exciting.

The whole Angela's cat story line. Seriously - is a cat being frozen to death funny?

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. HORRIBLE story decision. Not funny whatsoever-- in fact, just the opposite.

suzubeane
09-28-2007, 03:44 AM
Was the dead cat supposed to be funny? I didn't think so - I thought the audience was supposed to find humor in how clueless Dwight is that he would kill Angela's cat and think somehow that was a *good* thing.

There are a lot of things about this series that aren't funny per se, but people's reactions and behavior around them them are. Or if the reactions aren't funny, they're cringe-worthy.

I guess I feel just kind of meh about this episode. There were some funny parts, but I agree it dragged. I thought the camera crew following and then confronting Pam and Jim was weird and stalkerish. And the moment Oscar said there was "no evidence" of intimacy, you knew they were together.

Can someone remind me how Angela knows that Pam knows she and Dwight are together? When she started talking about "relationship problems" I thought she was going to be vague about who she was having problems with.

diam124
09-28-2007, 06:45 AM
I don't think that Angela ever really came out and told Pam about Dwight, but she just kind of knows that Pam knows.

Did anyone else think that the office scenes looked kind of different? It seemed to me like they're using different cameras or something this season. It threw me off there a little.

I think that maybe the Office isn't really supposed to be an hour long. I think it just works better when it's 30 minutes.

diam124

I re-watched the joint talking head in the conference room with Jim & Pam again. I cannot watch that scene without smiling - they just seem *so* happy!

Last night's episode was a bit of a disappointment to me. I didn't really think running over Meredith or killing the cat was funny. And I agree that the Jim/Pam bit was a little anti-climactic, though I'm really happy they're together!

Aimee
09-28-2007, 08:53 AM
I think there are 2 schools of thought on this episode, those who loved it, or those who were "meh". From reading the boards at TVWoP, it seems that those who loved Gay Witch Hunt weren't too into this one, and vice versa.

I thought the climax of the Jim/Pam thing was at the end of last season. This episode provided the resolution to that.

As a cat lover, Sprinkles' untimely demise was upsetting, but, something I found in character for Dwight. I dont' think it was supposed to be funny; I think it was supposed to be awkward and uncomfortable.

I think the realization, at least on Jim's part, came during his interview for the job at corporate. It seemed to happen individually for them and I think it would have felt awkward in this series.

I liked how they did the Jim and Pam thing, actually. Thinking of sitcoms and how they use the "will they get together or won't they" tension, and making those moments into huge things... The moment is great and memorable, but then the relationship is boring and show-ending so often. Like "Cheers" with Sam and Diane, or "Friends" with Rachel and Ross, and Monica and Chandler, and Rachel and Ross, and Rachel and Joey, and Rachel and Ross...

I think making the show less about "OMG, Jim and Pam? Will they or won't they?" will give it more longevity.

My favorite scenes:

1) When Jan pulls Pam aside and confronts her about seeing Michael naked.

2) Toby actually taking the race seriously, winning, and then realizing no one really cares.

3) Kevin's endless spying on Jim/Pam.

I think making the show less about "OMG, Jim and Pam? Will they or won't they?" will give it more longevity.I agree, but I hope that it doesn't become about "Ooh, no one can find out! Oh no! Someone almost found out!"

Entertainment weekly has Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski on the cover, and then they have three more covers behind it (!) with other Office couples. (All in character.) I can't find the cover photos on the site, but they are of Angela and Dwight, Michael and Jan (with Jan looking quite vixenish) and Ryan and Kelly (with Ryan pointing his finger to his head like a gun.)

The cover story is here (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20058840,00.html).

I agree, but I hope that it doesn't become about "Ooh, no one can find out! Oh no! Someone almost found out!"

I don't think it will be like that given they've already told the camera crew and been on air with it. I'm much more interested in if Pam & Jim know that each other know about Dwight and Angela.

I don't think this was the funniest episode and I noticed that it seemed like there were a lot of reaction shots missing, especially from Jim but I really love what they did with Pam and Jim.

Same here. It gave me such warm fuzzies to see them be so natural together. They have great chemistry!

I didn't think Dwight killing Angela's cat was especially funny, but I did think her beating him up during the fun run was pretty hilarious.

I don't think it was so much awful what he did, I get why he thought it was right. But I could have done without her comment about the ripped up freezer bags. If it would have just died that would have been one thing, but thinking about it having to freeze to death was a little much.

You should be able to buy it there if you use a PC. Us Mac users are SOL.

Not true. I watched it streaming on NBC.com on Friday with no problem on my Mac. Their crappy site has improved because I had a hell of a time watching shows like Studio 60 last year. I am still pissed at NBC for stopping iTunes sales. Big mistake.

ETA- I think the new download service that is launching this month is going to be PC only and will degrade after a week of downloading.. Thanks NBC, you suck!

Info on upcoming developments on The Office, from Ask Ausiello:

Question: I'm in need of some scoop on The Office. (response in white below)

Ausiello: Jim and Pam are finally happy, so you know what that means: It's time for Karen to put in an appearance! Rashida Jones is due back on the set next week to shoot scenes at Karen's new place of employ. Office producers are currently casting the role of her assistant, a twentysomething metrosexual who is friendly and has a good energy. Meanwhile, I hear new bossman Ryan is also in the market for an assistant — and she's smokin'. According to the casting notice, she's in her early twenties, businesslike, attractive and smart. In other words, Kelly's worst nightmare come true!

Pam is SO pretty this season. I'm really glad they have changed her look.

Poor Toby. He's so sad about Pam and Jim. :(

I'm sad about Dwight and Angela - I hope they make up. I thought it was hilarious that he brought her "Garbage".

Oh! And it was hil-ar-ious when Ryan hit on Pam and she was like oh, I'm dating Jim. Remeniscent of when he hit on Karen, much? :D

I loved this episode (although I still don't think the 1 hour format works very well). There were so many hilarious moments - the beginning with Toby, Kelly & Ryan, "Garbage", Ryan & Pam, Michael driving into the lake because the GPS told him to (this is especially funny to me because my sister uses a GPS a lot and sometimes if takes her to totally wrong places. She would realize this if she just quickly looked at a map).

I thought the first half hour was great, but then by the second half I thought it lost something. I think I have to watch it again because although there were some great moments, on the whole it left me feeling discontent.

I did love Michael "outing" Jim and Pam. His obvious joy at them being together was as sweet as it was cringe-worthy.

Toby made me so sad last night!

But I did love how awe-struck the other guys were by the "new" Ryan and said he could get any girl he wanted, then he couldn't get Pam..

Kelly was hilarious! I was not at all surprised that she'd say she was pregnant just to keep Ryan.

Toby creeped me out last night. I always felt a little sorry for him that he didn't have the guts to be more up front to Pam. But that memo seemed kinda outta character for him.

I'm happy that Jim and Pam's relationship hasn't become the focal point of the season thus far. It's almost like they're still just friends who have fun at the office, but in the back of our minds we know there's more.

It's true - I was so looking forward to one-hour episodes, and now I just think it's too long. After 30 minutes, I'm left wanting more ... after 45, I'm thinking "I'm about ready to have this wrap up."

Another favorite part of mine was when Andy gleefully joins in the "Welcome Ryan" ambush ("Fire guy!") and then when someone mentioned how Ryan almost burned down the building, was like, "Oh, when did that happen?".

THIS is the kind of humor that I want from the whole PB&J thing!

One of the best parts - Michael coming into the office and announcing that he drove into the lake because of 'technology.' hee! Didn't he also say something like "technology 0, Michael Scott, point. ;)"

This episode was better than last week's and I thought last week's was hilarious. The new Ryan is great. Trying to be a 'badass' but falling on his face. I really liked this episode - but I agree that the half hour format works better. I loved Andy singing to Angela - I think that storyline is going to be a lot of fun. Andy had some great lines in that episode. My favorite: "You lookin' for dinner and a movie? 'Cause you're not gonna find it in that box..." Andy's been really underused lately-- I hope we continue to see more of him!

I also chuckled when whoever it was called the bad pizza a "hot circle of garbage."

I agree that 30 minutes is a better format for this show. There were some good moments in last night's episode, though. When Jim tells Michael that the party is an online party I was dying. Michael is an idiot! Also, Michael telling off Ryan and Kelly smashing her pizza onto the TV was pretty great.

I *love* how they continue to keep things interesting by revealing new things about the characters we've never seen before, but which totally make sense ... Andy and Kevin thinking Ryan the hotshot city exec is "AWESOME"; Darryl potentially being a love machine ...

I'm also loving all the romantic developments -- I totally hope Andy and Angela (Andgela?) happen. One of my favorite recurring jokes is Andy's constant Cornell and a cappella references. The whole "Take a Chance On Me" by speakerphone was AWESOME; it reminds me so much of all the a cappella groups back in college.

I know that there has been a mixed reaction to the hour-long episodes. Personally, I've enjoyed them, but I wish they had been sprinkled throughout the season as a special event, not 4 all at once.

I wonder though, those of you who found the hour-long episodes too long or slow - do you watch them as they are broadcast? Or do you time-shift with TiVo/DVR? We TiVo the show and wait until there is sufficient cache to watch the entire thing commercial free. The hour-long shows have felt a little on the long side, but, they didn't bother me as much as others have expressed.

I enjoyed last night's episode a lot, although I am psyched that we're back to 30 minute eps.

I like it when the show spends more time on character development than wacky plot devices. I thought there was plenty of comedy last night, but it was nicely matched by the emotional growth that we saw.

I think I'm in the minority with regards to the Darryl/Kelly relationship. Last week I thought it might be a cute thing to explore, but now I just feel like it's too much- we already have Jim/Pam, Michael/Jan, Angela/Andy/Dwight. Besides, I like Kelly's craziness over Ryan; I'd hate to see that go away. :)

But I'm in the majority with regards to Jim and Pam- I swooned at the storytime cuddling, the wonderful kiss, and the line "I'm very passionate about Italian food. In fact, um, I'm in love with Italian food." Awwwwww!

I liked the Michael and Jan story line. I thought it was sweet. I thought the scene between them really lent some credibility to their relationship.I agree. When they first got together, they seemed so unlikely, but now that we've gotten to see her ... uh ... eccentric side, they kind of make sense. So it was nice to see a tender moment between them.

Poor Dwight. But it looks like he's going to be back to his old self. It seems that Jim's commiseration helped him a lot.I interpreted Dwight's comeback as his not wanting to see himself as comparable to Jim on any level. So even though Jim's confession was meant as commiseration, it helped Dwight, but for the opposite reason.

Was the cat that Andy gave her Garbage from a couple of weeks ago?I thought it was meant to be the same cat.

And I actually like the Darrell/Kelly story line. I liked when he told her to "access her uncrazy side" and that it really seemed to register when he told her to "think about it." (Or something like that.)

Best episode of the year - by FAR!

Did anybody catch that the 'alias' Creed says he transfers his debt to, is actually his real name? I love little details like that. Also, does anybody wonder what happened to Kevin's "Scrantonicity" band and why Scranton needs TWO Police cover bands. ;)

Darryl was awesome in this episode. People have mentioned it before but when he told Kelly that she needs to 'access her uncrazy side,' I laughed out loud. Perfect comment. Also loved when Darryl said about Ryan "I get excited when I see that little white dude." Hee!

The cat Andy gave Angela was def. the same cat ("Garbage") Dwight tried to give her a few weeks ago. Andy caught it outside Vance Refrigeration and that is where Dwight dumped it when Angela wouldn't take it. So nice to see "Garbage" get a home. :)

No one has mentioned the splits that Andy did when talking to Pam at her desk. He is getting funnier every week.

Also no one has mentioned Mose running next to the car when Pam and Jim pull into Schrute Farms. :) Actually every scene with Mose was funny. I hope they keep him popping in now and then. Love when Pam saw him in the outhouse and says to the camera "What century is this?" Also love Jim and Pam's review on TA. "Tablemaking never seemed so possible." :D

The end scene where Dwight is pushing Jim's stuff around with a ruler was a great callback to the first episode.

Yep. And he (Michael Schur) is married to J. J. Philbin, daughter of Regis.

By the way, I was on TripAdvisor for something else and I checked for Schrute Farms - there are like 60 reviews already.

OMG, that is the best!! I have been cracking up over all the reviews and photos.

I thought last night's episode had some really good, funny moments. In particular, the Andy-Angela interaction, the Kelly-Darrell storyline, the "whomever" conversation, a lot of the stuff at the B&B. But I am still disliking the Pam-Jim relationship (ZZZzzzzzz....) and thought last night's episode was heavy on the sadness. I am really looking forward to a return to a 30 minute format. I think it'll force the writers to tighten up the storylines and only give us the very best stuff.

There's an article on Slate.com right now that talks about this season of The Office:

What's Wrong with "The Office" and How to Fix It (http://www.slate.com/id/2176186/fr/flyout)

p.s. I love Garbage and want to adopt him myself! :)

I thought this episode was pretty good, especially the first half. All of the stuff as Schrute Farms was hysterical, and Mose just kills me. I did think it was too heavy on the sad stuff as well, and although I love this show, I'm looking forward to half-hour episodes again.

I ABSOLUTELY loved the part where Jim was telling Dwight about when he left Scranton and then had to go kiss Pam. Then Pam said "He's really passionate about Italian food" and he said, "Yes, as a matter of fact, I'm in love with it." Ahhhhh!!! So freakin' cute and romantic! I love it!

Best episode of the year - by FAR!

Did anybody catch that the 'alias' Creed says he transfers his debt to, is actually his real name? ...

Also no one has mentioned Mose running next to the car when Pam and Jim pull into Schrute Farms. :) Actually every scene with Mose was funny. I hope they keep him popping in now and then.

Creed's real name is actually Creed Bratton. He's playing a parody of himself an ageing hippie musician, you see alot more of it when you watch the deleted scenes. I LOVED the running scene with Mose, I just have to think about it to get myself laughing.

I have to admit that I wasn't 100% watching this episode, so I have to watch it again (Thank you, TiVo) but I thought it was amusing. Loved Andy trying to remember the Kit Kat jingle. "Break me off a piece of that football cream."

I thought it was a little slow at the beginning, but the ad at the end more than made up for it. I know I'm a big sap but it was so cool to watch how excited everyone -- pam, andy, even stanley! -- was to see themselves in the director's cut, and how proud MIchael was of his efforts. I love how the show is alternately hysterical - Stanley in the convict outfit over this suit! - and sweet.

DH paused it and asked me what that scene was about. I took it to mean that Jim was really embarrassed that he 1) spent time creating an avatar that looked so much like him and 2) that he had given so much thought to his "character" (the Phildelphia based sportswriter who plays the guitar).

I noticed that too. The writers aren't big on leaving loose ends so maybe they'll pick back up on that.

- Phyllis yelling at Jim to "piss or get off the pot" in the parking lot...

- The bartender trying to hit on Pam at the end and Jim putting his arm around her...

I loved it!
It was Meredith, not Phyllis yelling at Jim. I love Jim putting his arm around Pam too and that he brought her breakfast and called to wake her up. They are SO my favorite couple on TV right now. My hubby is deployed and has been gone for 8 months...I'm living vicariously through them to get sweetness and romance.

I thought this too plus they are still a new relationship so I thought it was cute that Pam was learning about some of his interests that she didn't know about like sports writing and playing the guitar.

It's funny that he had a guitar in his avatar because I just saw an old episode on TBS where Jim had a party at his house and was giving everyone a tour of his house. He found Pam in his room looking at his stuff and in the corner, against a wall was a guitar...guess she didn't notice or see it then. That's actually been my favorite episode that I've seen. John Krasinski's acting and subtle reactions when she sits on his bed were SPOT on. I'm becoming WAY too into this show! ;)

This was another outstanding episode!

Highlights -

Someone mentioned this previously, but I am in LOVE with the conversation Michael has with corporate. "Ryan's being such a little bitch" Then Ryan says "I'm on Michael." Michael says something like "Oh hey- What's up brother!" hee! :D

I agree with everyone who said that Jim was embarrassed that when it comes down to it, he does have a 'dork side' that would cause him to put so much effort into his 'fake Jim' character ;) He teases Dwight so much, but in some cases they are more alike than different.

The group sing was AWESOME! Loved the little moves Kelly was doing and loved Creed's air guitar in the second version!

Michael's ad WAS better, but it was still full of 'ad cliches' that make it priceless. Someone has already mentioned the 'paperless world' tag line. Um...not so great for a paper company ad! Also, did anybody noticed that Jim's part said something like "getting a second shot." Very fitting me thinks. :)

This episode was such a refresher from the 'prisoner-taking' Michael Scott that we have had of late. Nice to see Michael do something and do it well!

I loved this episode. It reminded me of some of the better season 2 episodes. I was laughing hysterically when Dwight was peeing in the car and then with the moustaches.

I also loved the scene at the end when they were discussing Angela's Ashes and Pam mouthing "sorry" to the rest of them.

Steve Carell was interviewed on one of the local radio stations this morning. I got in the car towards the end of the interview and I could not figure out who it was but I knew it was someone from The Office since they were talking about the show. I think the fact that Steve Carell wrote this episode is one of the main reasons that Michael is so relateable at the end. Steve also wrote Casino Night and I think that Michael is also very 'human' in that episode as well.

Loved the episode and I totally disagree with those whom think that it had no point. I thought Steve did a great job of drawing two separate but similar arcs for Jim and Michael. Michael is out (alone - he thinks) by himself in the wildnerness. Jim too is 'alone' so to speak as he is in charge of the office by himself and is trying to implement a highly unpopular new policy. Both of them try (and fail) to 'go it alone.'

I think the conversation at the end was definitely scripted and I think it really shows where Jim is headed. For the first time, Jim might be able to see that he and Michael are not really so different (something I think the script was trying to show us the entire time.)

In addition to the 'deeper' story arcs going on, I thought that there was so much to love about this episode:
~ Creed advocating for his pie and saying "Tell her it's for Creed. She'll know what that means." LOL!
~ Andy going "Yesss!" in the background when Angela is listing off all of the things that she has already bought for the 'joint party' and she gets to "Fudgy the Whale" :D
~ Stanley's reaction to Michael saying 'Black don't Crack."
~ Dwight showing the documentary crew all of the places he has hidden weapons in the office. (aforementioned by MK) :p
~ Jim starting to hate Toby (just like Michael does.)
~ Pam hinting to Jim that he is actually becoming Michael when he says they need to have a meeting and Pam says "In the conference room?" Hee!
~Angela saying "What I am going to do with all of these cakes and pies?" and Kevin saying "I'll take them!" :p

So good! I could go on and on. When they get the supporting cast really involved (like they did in this episode,) it's always so funny!

Haha - me too. I thought they were finally going to have a bonding moment so Michael pushing the tray took me by surprise.

I also liked Kelly's "What has two skinny chicken legs and sucks at ping pong?".

I would love to see a "Flashback" episode to cast some light on why Michael hates Toby so much. Is there some particular source or incident that caused all this?

I thought that the tray pushing scene was so appropriate. How DARE Toby try to 'bond' with Michael by telling him a sappy story WHILE HE'S READING A COPY OF MICHAEL's DIARY! That was bush league by Toby and deserved the tray push.

I laugh every time Michael 'encounters' Toby (like when he first sees him in this episode.) Cracks me up!:D

Michael said in one of the early episodes that he doesn't like Toby because technically since he's the HR rep he works directly for corporate, so he's not "part of the family".
